If you can get those right, that is foundational to your talent acquisition, retention, and organizational growth.  "Growth for the sake of growth is not a great thing. In this episode, Yvonne is joined by Charlene Flanagan & Niamh Ryan, the founders of Jo & Ella cosmetics. They have created several award-winning products by combining natural and active ingredients to produce effective, eco-conscious skincare products. Their products are inspired by plants and powered by science. They share their entrepreneurial journey which they embarked upon at the same time as having their first children. Charlene and Niamh share insights into how to harness your passion and creativity to help others and develop products that are better than anything else that is available. KEY TAKEAWAYS Finding your tribe is important when starting a business. That´s where the honest feedback, inspiration and support comes from. Connect with other female entrepreneurs. Make your customers a part of your tribe, build a community for them. Having a supportive spouse or partner is a massive help. But you also need the support and insight from other entrepreneurs who have a deeper understanding of the challenges. The early stage of your business journey is when you have the most creative freedom. As you scale, structuring and building your business becomes the priority. Be authentic when building your brand. Pretending is exhausting and soon becomes unsustainable. The most successful businesses truly care about their customers. They don´t chase sales or get sidetracked by trends. Delivering for your customer is the best way to improve your product or service. Don´t worry about being trolled online. It happens, you need to keep it in context and not waste energy on it. The slight upside is that the ranking algorithm sees any comment or view in a positive light. There is nothing wrong with saying no to something. Your time and energy are precious commodities, don´t waste them. Regularly step back from the day to day running of your company. Doing so gives you a fresh perspective and makes room for you to once again enjoy some creative freedom. If you like someone´s product tell them. On a daily basis, complement others. When it is genuine it really lifts them up. BEST MOMENTS “We are finding that joy, that passion, that we had at the start.” “You can see things so much clearer when you take yourself out of the day to day running.” “It would be amazing to have somebody to bounce things off of.” “I don't think you can be an entrepreneur and not have passion for your business and your product, because there are too many lows.” “We all have our own insecurities, and we all have our own strengths, but we're all human, at the end of the day.” “Bring your skincare all the way down to your neck as well.” EPISODE RESOURCES https://ellaandjo.ie Going For Growth - https://goingforgrowth.com VALUABLE RESOURCES website: pausepenny.com Instagram: @yvonnetchrakian_manifest @pause.penny LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/yvonne-tchrakian-64257619/ HOST BIO Yvonne started her career as a corporate lawyer for one of Ireland's top law firms. In this episode of "Shark Theory," host Baylor Barbee explores the crucial topic of finding silence and introspection in our fast-paced, distraction-filled world. With a personal narrative that contrasts his experiences in New York City's hustle and bustle with the peaceful solitude of Texas and Hawaii, Baylor delves into the significance of silence as a medium for personal growth and self-discovery. He challenges listeners to embrace the quiet, highlighting its power in providing clarity and understanding of one's true desires and potential. Baylor emphasizes the importance of tuning out the everyday noise and distractions to better listen to our inner thoughts and instincts. Referencing his experience with sensory deprivation tanks, he illustrates the discomfort many face when left alone with their thoughts yet stresses the necessity of confronting these feelings head-on. He encourages listeners to take time for themselves, away from social media and other distractions, to truly know themselves and unlock their full potential.  Key Takeaways: Finding silence and introspection is crucial for personal growth and understanding. The hustle culture often distracts us from listening to our true thoughts and instincts. Learning to be content alone can lead to self-discovery and empowerment. Distractions prevent us from realizing our full potential and achieving clarity. Embracing silence helps to break free from cultural pressures and internal noise. Notable Quotes: "Silence is such a gift and something that I hope you find a way to get in your life." "A lot of us can't handle our own thoughts." "If we continue to live a life of distraction, what happens is we never grow." "One of the most powerful things that you can do in life is learn to be happy in a room alone." "When you learn a lot about yourself, you learn what you're capable of. And when you learn what you're capable of, you're unstoppable."

WARNING: This episode contains discussions some listeners may find upsetting. Please be advised Lyn welcomes Krystal Casey, a motivational speaker and women's empowerment coach, to discuss the sensitive topic of finding your voice and moving on from abuse. Krystal shares her harrowing personal story of discovering her husband's abuse of their daughter, the courageous steps she took to protect her children, and the journey of healing that followed.  KEY TAKEAWAYS Finding & using your voice is a crucial part of overcoming abuse. Speaking out not only helps the individual but also empowers children who may not have the ability to voice their experiences. Recognising that generational patterns of abuse can be broken is essential. It requires a conscious effort to address and change these cycles for the benefit of future generations. When a child discloses abuse, it is vital for caregivers to believe them and provide support. This validation can significantly positively impact the healing process. Trauma can manifest physically and emotionally. Engaging in practices like yoga, mindfulness, and meditation can help release stored trauma and promote healing. While accountability for abusers is important, the focus should also be on the healing and well-being of survivors. Finding peace and moving forward is a priority, even amidst mixed feelings about getting justice. BEST MOMENTS "Abuse thrives in silence and darkness. Stepping into that light and beginning to use your voice is going to make such an impact." "I can certainly vouch for the fact that once you've shared, it makes a huge difference."  "It took me a while to recognise that these generational patterns aren't created in one generation and they won't be broken in one generation." "Your voice matters. Your story matters. You matter." Carly Shoulders Podcast  In this episode, Adina Oberman, a mom and former preschool teacher, explores the themes of work-life balance and making life with kids easier with Carly Shoulders, a former educator turned insurance professional and resin artist. They delve into the challenges and insights of parenting, the pressure to "do it all," and the personal journeys that led them to make significant career and life changes to prioritize family and self-care.    Episode Highlights  00:00:09 - Adina Oberman introduces the podcast, focusing on the messy yet beautiful aspects of family, love, and relationships. She welcomes guest Carly Shoulders, highlighting her background as a mother, former educator, and her current roles in the insurance industry and as a resin artist. 00:01:13 - Carly shares her journey from being an educator to finding a balance that allows her to pursue her passions and spend more time with her family. This transition was sparked by the realization that her job was not allowing her to be the parent she wanted to be, leading her to seek a career that offered better work-life harmony. 00:02:16 - The concept of giving 100% in life is discussed, with Carly explaining how splitting her energy between work and family has led to a healthier balance for her. This ideology is rooted in an understanding that it's not feasible to give your all to every aspect of life every single day.   00:03:23 - Carly discusses the pivotal moment when she realized that her professional life had to change. Seeking advice from a counselor, she faced the question of whether her current path was what she truly wanted for her life. This led to a deeper reflection on her values and what it means to be fulfilled. 00:04:19 - The topic of self-care and how it relates to being a parent and professional is addressed. Carly and Adina talk about the importance of assessing one's capacity daily to adequately allocate energy to different aspects of life, including self-care. 00:05:12 - Carly emphasizes the societal pressure on women, particularly mothers, to "do it all" and how unhealthy this expectation can be. She advocates for a more balanced approach that allows for personal well-being and fulfillment. 00:06:03 - Adina reflects on her own experience, resonating with Carly's journey. They discuss the societal and internal pressures parents face, highlighting the importance of making personal choices that lead to happiness and balance. 00:07:07 - Carly recounts a breaking point caused by workplace toxicity, which reinforced her decision to change careers. This moment of clarity led her to prioritize her well-being and family life over societal expectations of success. 00:08:07 - The positive impact of Carly's career change on her family is highlighted. Working from home and having more control over her work-life balance has led to a more fulfilling and happy family life.    00:09:09 - Carly speaks to the empowerment that comes from making life changes for one's happiness and well-being. She encourages listeners to not be afraid of changing their path, as personal growth often requires new directions. 00:10:03 - The discussion shifts to how societal expectations can clash with personal needs and happiness. Both Carly and Adina share their experiences with career changes and how these decisions were critical to finding personal and family happiness.    00:11:06 - Carly's entrance into the world of resin art as a form of self-care and creative expression is explored. This new passion provided her with a therapeutic outlet and a way to connect with her interests and talents.    00:12:24 - The conversation concludes with a focus on Carly's social media presence, where she aims to support other parents with resources, tips, and personal experiences. Her journey underscores the importance of finding one's path to happiness and fulfillment.  Key Takeaways  Finding a balance between professional aspirations and family life is crucial for personal happiness and well-being. The concept of giving 100% doesn't mean splitting your energy equally among tasks but understanding your limits and allocating your energy in a way that aligns with your values and needs.   Social support and community can significantly impact mental health and parenting. Finding or creating spaces that offer support and understanding can be incredibly beneficial.    Self-care is not only about personal relaxation but also about making life choices that reflect one's true needs and desires, even if that means making significant changes.  Tweetable Quotes  "You're enough, no matter what you're giving and no matter what your situation is." - Carly Shoulders    "It's not feasible to give your all to every aspect of life every single day." - Carly Shoulders    "We're all human, we're all in this together, and you are enough no matter what." - Carly Shoulders  Show Notes by Barevalue.

In this episode Judith Germain speaks to Kapil Kulshreshtha about finding your voice, increasing influence, and breaking the corporate status quo. Key Takeaways Finding your voice means knowing your core identity, values, and letting that drive your expression authentically Increasing influence happens naturally when coming from a place of being, leveraging strategies/tactics like branding, networking Breaking corporate status quo means defining your own success, not following others' definitions - you can "have it all" on your own terms Focus on one passion/career path fully rather than dividing efforts between multiple side hustles Topics Enjoying Life's Activities Spending time with kids, coaching clients on possibilities, reading/learning Doing things that make him feel alive and energised Kapil's Background Worked 22 years in corporate (Microsoft, Cognizant) before becoming a coach in 2017 Failed initially as a coach, but now runs a substantial coaching business Helps individuals in corporate build powerful careers/lives aligned with identity Finding Your Voice Not just about expression, but knowing your core identity/values driving everything Faking it or trying to be someone else is unsustainable - be authentic Let your voice emerge from who you truly are, not superficial changes Increasing Influence Happens naturally when coming from your authentic place of being Then leverage strategies like branding, networking, content creation Having a coach can help amplify your influence Breaking Corporate Status Quo Most follow the same plan: get job > get promoted > make money > buy things This follows others' meaning of success, not your own definition Redefine success for yourself - you can "have it all" on your terms, not balanced Don't divide efforts between multiple hustles - go all-in on one passion In this conversation Kapil explains that finding your voice is not just about how you express yourself, but about knowing your core values and identity and letting that drive everything you do. He emphasises the importance of being authentic rather than trying to simulate a persona. Judith and Kapil discuss strategies for increasing influence, including leveraging your authentic voice and identity, as well as using tactics like personal branding, content creation, and networking. They caution against manipulation and emphasise the importance of coming from a place of being rather than just doing. Curious about how to find an egg donor, sperm donor or surrogate? Gail Sexton Anderson, the visionary behind Donor Concierge, addresses all of these questions and provides insights about how  the process operates and who covers expenses.     Donor Concierge assists clients requiring third party fertility (aka donor or surrogacy support) in their family building journey. Choosing someone outside your family to enable your family to grow can be really complicated and emotional and together we explore all these nuances.  Gail and her team are dedicated to supporting clients through every step. If using a donor or a surrogate is on your mind, this episode is not to be missed—it's brimming with vital information.   IN THIS EPISODE: [2:51] Gail explains what services the Donor Concierge provides and defines language used in the field [6:36] Gail shares the details of how Donor Concierges operates, how they assist clients navigating through the donor field and what clients are looking for in their search [18:06] There are three types of searches: egg donor, sperm donor and surrogacy search. What kinds of information are shared, and what are good reasons for openness in the process rather than anonymity  [26:59] Where are surrogates found, and what are the trends [35:44] What is the future of the way fertility and third-party fertility are supported, and are there legal issues  [42:37] When should an intended parent seek the Donor Concierge [46:15] Gail shares what family means to her   KEY TAKEAWAYS: Finding the correct egg or sperm donor cannot be overstated. It does make a difference because an egg is not just an egg, and sperm is not just sperm. Every egg carries genetic information that forms who your child will be one day.  Multiple things can and do go wrong in the process of building a family through egg and sperm donation and surrogacy. Having a firm like Donor Concierge on your side is beneficial because they walk through those difficulties with you.  The process of egg and sperm donation or having a surrogate is not just a means to an end. It is your child's story; it is your family's story. Open communication is essential, and anonymity should be a thing of the past. There is too much information lost when anonymity is a factor.    RESOURCE LINKS: Stork'd - Facebook Stork'd - Instagram Stork'd - YouTube  Donor Concierge - Website   BIOGRAPHY:  Gail Sexton Anderson has dedicated her career to helping intended parents from all walks of life build families. Mark speaks with Jessica Buchanan, a humanitarian worker and activist who was kidnapped and held hostage for 93 days in Somalia. Today, Jessica works to help women foster their authentic self-expression through the development of their own manifestos. Today, Commander Divine speaks with Jessica Buchanan, a humanitarian worker and activist who was kidnapped and held hostage for 93 days in Somalia. Jessica miraculously survived to tell the tale in her memoir, Impossible Odds: The Kidnapping of Jessica Buchanan and her Dramatic Rescue by SEAL Team VI. In this episode, Jessica recounts her experience in captivity, how she coped and healed after survival, and how her kidnapping ultimately led her to a greater purpose. Key Takeaways: Finding strength in the unthinkable. As a teacher from Ohio, Jessica never thought such an extraordinary event could ever happen to her. But her experience taught her that not only was she not immune to having bad things happen to her, but she also learned she's a whole lot tougher than she ever gave herself credit for. She says that she can now look back on her story as a reminder of her inner strength in moments of imposter syndrome. Trust your gut. The night before her kidnapping, Jessica's intuition was screaming at her not to travel to southern Somalia as she was instructed to do for work. In fact, she tried to cancel the work engagement twice, but was pressured by her colleague to go. The whole night before her kidnapping, she had nightmares that she was being kidnapped by pirates. She says her decision to go anyway was the biggest self-abandonment moment of her life. She has since vowed to always go with her gut, no matter what. Finding humor in a hopeless place. Jessica says she relied on her “warped sense of humor” to keep her hopeful and strong over the course of her 93-day kidnapping. At one point, when her captors locked the keys inside all 3 getaway vehicles, she turned to her co-hostage and said, “It's official, we've been kidnapped by the world's dumbest pirates.” Humor is a hope-builder. Surviving survival is not a linear process. Jessica says that surviving her survival has been two steps forward and 10 steps back. Whether you've experienced large or small traumas, you just don't know what's going to trigger you from day to day, so be gentle with yourself. When life gives you lemons... Jessica made use of her 93 days in captivity examining every memory she could remember from her life. During this healing process, she reflected, analyzed, and deeply forgave others and herself. (This is actually very similar to an ancient practice called “recapitulation” from the ancient Toltec warriors.) From the ashes of her traumatic kidnapping, Jessica has now built a daily spiritual practice of meditation and journaling, which has become crucially supportive in her business working with women.

A change of opportunities calls for a change of expectations. How do we, as leaders, navigate our way to become effective throughout this shift? In this episode, Denis welcomes Heather Osgood, founder of True Native Media. Heather discusses the importance of adapting to change, dreaming a bigger dream, and being willing to take on challenges. Today's leaders must be able to listen well - both to their teams and the world - in order to be successful.  Heather Osgood is the founder of True Native Media, a boutique podcast representation agency specializing in podcast advertising. With an extensive background in radio advertising and love for podcasting, Heather was in a unique position to start an agency that could help both advertisers get better results and assist podcasters in finding sponsors. She is an influential voice in the podcast advertising space and has sold over 50K ads in the last five years. Heather is also the Podcast Moneymaker's creator, a course designed for podcasters who want the formula, tools, and tactics to get advertisers in 6 weeks.  Tune in as Denis and Heather discuss what it takes for team members to feel like they're part of something greater than themselves–if leaders cannot provide this motivation for their team, they may lose them.  In this episode: Heather Osgood shares her experience as the founder of True Native Media and host of her own show https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/podcast-advertising-playbook/id1473222248 (Podcast Advertising Playbook). There are differences between leading an independent contractor versus having an employee and one employee versus multiple employees. When doing business, it's easy to get lost in the details, but it's important to have a clear vision and focus on what's important. It is essential for leaders to respond well to different situations. Leadership is changing because of the fragmentation of the world. Listening is important for understanding what is happening around us and for building relationships with those close to us and with our team. Heather talks about one of her favorite leadership books, which is https://www.amazon.com/Reinventing-Organizations-Frederic-Laloux/dp/2960133501 (Reinventing Organizations by Frederic Laloux). Leadership will increasingly be evident as individuals need to be able to lead themselves. Key Takeaways: Finding out your roles as a leader and entrepreneur can be difficult to figure out Push yourself beyond what you think you can accomplish The world is changing and leadership is changing with it The leaders who are successful today are those who are able to listen well It is also important to listen to the world in general, as changes happen constantly Leadership is not about a pyramid - it becomes about having individual leadership Change of opportunities calls for a change of expectations Leadership is about having a voice, having a say, and having an opinion Tweetable Quotes: “There are different levels, I think, of growth that's appropriate as you grow with a team. And really, it's about figuring out how you can structure what each of those people is doing and then I think most importantly, and most difficult is what exactly is your role as a leader.” - Heather Osgood “People want to feel like they're part of something that is greater than themselves. And if you, as a leader, can't provide that motivation for someone, I think that's when you lose them, right? You lose their attention.” - Heather Osgood Connect with Heather on https://www.instagram.com/truenativemedia (Instagram) and https://www.linkedin.com/in/podcastadvertising (LinkedIn), follow her on https://twitter.com/truenativemedia (Twitter), and check out her https://heatherosgood.com/ (website). He says: “We needed to centralize data, that's really driven our conversations over the last few months because we had to shop across a range of suppliers. Ultimately, we decided we were going cloud because that's just what would work for the business.” Finding The Right Partner for Cloud Transformation As cloud adoption continues across organizations and industries, finding the right solutions provider needs the transformation leader to be aware of their business's unique needs. One of Awonaike's initial challenges was in finding the best cloud partner to undertake the journey with. He based the decision on the alignment between Legal & General's strategic direction and the vendor's own roadmap and ambitions. Next, he focused on developing his team's skills to maximize the benefit of the initiative. “It was really about building a team to deliver this solution, a team with a wide range of skills, from solutions architects to testers,” Awonaike says. He also cultivates his team's storytelling abilities to increase cross-functional engagement. “While a business product owner could reach out to just the scrum master, I would rather have the data engineer tell the story through his demo than for him to just do the technical bit,” he continues. Don't Stop Reiterating Business Value Even with the cloud solution in place, data leaders still have to prove value in their investment. Awonaike finds that regular scrum sessions between his team and the rest of the organization ensure the transformation unfolds in line with evolving business needs. Awonaike explains: “Business requirements can be volatile. You can't hear the requirements once and never check back in with business. You need to keep the engagement going, so we have two-week sprints that basically let us fail very quickly then get things right.” “No business leader wants to throw away money. So, the question is what value are you adding? If you're able to paint the picture of what value is, whether it's tangible, in terms of revenue or intangible, there has to be a value the business can connect with.” he concludes. Key Takeaways Finding the right cloud provider. The ideal solutions provider has to meet your business's unique set of needs

One thing that I found very quickly inside of training was there is nothing else that will ever make you better as a person than challenge. What is the primary aspect of training, it's to challenge you to improve who you currently are to transform you into someone better. Whenever you are training for a new personal record you have no idea what's going to happen when you attempt that personal record. All you know is that you've been putting your heart and soul into training to achieve that personal record. What happens if you fail at it? What happens if you hurt yourself pulling it? What happens if no one's there to see it? These are the same things that will happen in life. You will work so hard to achieve things in your life that you might not even know you will achieve. You don't know all the unknown mysteries that are going to push you off the rails towards striving for that goal. You will work and grind every single day to achieve small milestones that no one is seeing but you. With co-hosts Rachel Bellotti (she/her) and Jenell Riesner (she/her), this is a gathering of un-sugar-coated conversations celebrating the untold stories of everyday people fearlessly finding and living their true north.  In our own search to discover and live from our TRUE NORTH, we continue to meet many interesting, courageous people from all walks of life, doing all sorts of amazing things to live life in their own unique way. Stories from all over the world. Stories with heart. Stories with grit. Stories with plot twists. Stories going untold - until now. This season, we celebrate these untold stories of everyday people who are fearlessly living their true north and inspiring each of us to do the same. Today, we talk to Megan Collins (she/her), a friend from SPIRE Fitness in Milwaukee, WI and TNC Podcast listener. She originally reached out wanting to hear more on the topic of finding your passion and making a transition in your professional life towards your passions - and so we decided to have her on + have an honest conversation about it! Megan is currently a Global Professional Instructor, but has had many jobs over the years in her pursuit of finding work she loves. We dissect what it means when you feel lost without a map of your future, how to trust your intuition, noticing when you are putting more merit into other people’s realities vs yourself, and recognizing your line and learning how to move that line to live a life that feels true to you.  *note: this episode includes explicit language appropriate for those ages 16+   RESOURCES MENTIONED: Dirty Jobs SPIRE Fitness Music from: https://www.jukedeck.com/   3 KEY TAKEAWAYS: Finding your passion, going after what you think you want, and learning to trust your intuition can be incredibly uncomfortable at times. Especially when the thing you're being called to or that you want will blow up your current day-to-day routine and lifestyle if you go after it. And that can make you question your desires and convince yourself that it isn’t right or it’s crazy or that you’re crazy, etc. and that can be really confusing. It takes a lot of grit to choose to listen to yourself and follow through with what you hear within you so that you can live the life you want to live. A huge act of courage can be really small (or even silence + NOT take action) + is still worthy of celebration + acknowledgment. The size of the change doesn’t equate to the amount of courage or grit it takes to make the change. What feels big for me, may seem small for you, and visa versa - recognize in yourself when you know you have taken a leap of any size + celebrate the fuck out of yourself for taking ANY steps to move your line in your way today. Listening to your intuition is a practice. Learning to trust what you hear is a practice. Figuring out how your intuition speaks to you is a practice. Not judging yourself for your relationship with your intuition is a practice. And the only way to build that relationship is to show up and keep practicing even if it’s uncomfortable, even if you “mess up”, even if you forget, even if you get it “right”. And if you don’t know where to start, first start practicing getting present with yourself (meditation, mindfulness, be in nature + get quiet, intuitive movement, creative expression, writing/journaling, place your hand on your heart + breath into this moment + observe your felt sense). As you practice getting present, you can start to play with asking questions + listening + allowing answers to arise from deep within you - an inner knowing. Reflecting on how you have “known” what your intuition was saying to you in the past is another way to start to hone in on how it speaks to you now + how you hear it. Know that there is no right or wrong way and trusting in your way is more important than any process or protocol that comes from outside of you. Play with it and trust what comes up for you.   TIME-STAMPED SHOW NOTES: [1:00] Auditioning for American Idol + Bachelor [4:30] Putting yourself in the spotlight [11:30] Introducing Megan! Inside Episode 002: Your character's soul is the makeup of their core beliefs, their values, what they stand for, and how all of that influences their decisions. Finding the soul is taking a stereotype or a trope and flipping it on its head to create a living, breathing, 3-dimensional character that can stand the test of time and provide your comic with stories for years to come. Key Takeaways Finding your character's soul gives you the storytelling potential to keep that character in circulation for years to come. Never build a character on your own bias or assumptions. Doing your due diligence and research opens your mind to new information. Information changes situations, and that'll help you build characters outside of your own culture from a place of authenticity. Tropes and stereotypes are lazy, cheap, and tell unoriginal and uninspiring stories that are flat. Discovering your character's soul builds in that third dimension so your character has the depth you need to tell a wider range of original and inspiring stories through that character.

Figure out what you value and know that it will change over time. Motivation is internal; it drives you from your core. Someone may motivate you in the moment but you are ultimately responsible for figuring out what motivates you. Dream big. If you want to be a French speaking obstetrician, go out and do that! Or HR. They are pretty much the same (you’ll need to listen for this to make sense).
