What if I told you that up to 90% of people with alcohol use disorder relapse within the first four years? Before you let that statistic discourage you, here's the game-changer: having a solid relapse prevention plan can dramatically shift those odds in your favor. In this powerful episode, Duane and Eric dive deep into one of recovery's most crucial yet overlooked tools – the relapse prevention plan. They're not talking about planning to fail; they're talking about planning to succeed when life throws its inevitable curveballs. DOWNLOAD THE WORKSHEET You'll discover why your healthiest moments are actually the perfect time to prepare for your most vulnerable ones. Think of it as creating a "survival kit for your sobriety" – a personalized roadmap that helps you identify warning signs before they become danger zones and navigate triggering situations with confidence rather than chaos. The hosts share practical strategies for building your support network, recognizing your unique triggers (hint: they're not always what you think), and developing immediate response plans that actually work when cravings hit. They'll also tackle the shame that keeps so many people from reaching out for help and show you how to transform potential relapses from failures into powerful growth opportunities. Whether you're thriving in recovery right now or struggling to get back on track, this episode offers hope, practical tools, and the reminder that recovery is a journey of progress, not perfection. Plus, they've created a downloadable worksheet to help you build your own personalized plan – because having a plan isn't pessimistic, it's empowering. DOWNLOAD THE WORKSHEET Key Topics: Why relapse rates are so high and how planning changes everything The best time to create your relapse prevention plan (spoiler: it's not when you're struggling) Identifying your personal warning signs and triggers Building an immediate response strategy for cravings and difficult moments Creating and practicing with your support network before you need them Transforming relapse from failure to growth opportunity Making your plan accessible and keeping it updated as you grow If you live in California, Idaho, Virginia, or Florida and are looking for counseling or therapy, please visit Novus Mindful Life Counseling and Recovery Center. On this episode of Success is Subjective, Joanna brings you another story from our special former participant series where she extends the opportunity for former participants to share their journey with others. Today's former participant is Ryan McGinty. Ryan holds a masters degree in clinical mental health counseling and has a successful career as a leader in the therapeutic treatment field. He's most proud of the life he has built in Sedona, Arizona with his wife and two children. While in many senses, Ryan has “arrived” and found his path in career, family and internal peace, it took him many years to get to where he is today. He explains to listeners the beauty of growing up with parents who instilled in their children the significance of choosing sobriety after they both recovered from substance use, and with one of his parents being a counselor and the profound lessons he was privileged to earn at a young age. He also shares the irony of how, after all his parents instilled in him, he still ended up abusing substances. What started off as just trying marijuana once, ended up spiraling him into many years of addiction with more intense substances. While it took Ryan a continual commitment to recovery, a decade of college and multiple career changes, Ryan eventually realized his purpose and passion and now helps others who struggle in similar ways as he once did. NOTE: The podcasts in this series can include sensitive subjects such as suicide, self-harm, substance abuse, hospitalizations, psychotic episodes, and other traumatic experiences which include parts of the treatment journey. As leaders, it's tempting to buy into the false narrative that once we've been in recovery for a while, or stepped into leadership, we somehow have "arrived" and Open Share is no longer needed. That's for "those people" and not for me. But, as leaders, what are the things that we need to be aware of and what's the value of our being active and wise participants in Open Share? How does this correlate with shepherding those God has called us to? In this podcast, Rodney Holmstrom, Global Field Director of Celebrate Recovery, walks us through some things to consider if we struggle in this area as a leader.

In this raw and revealing episode of The Recovery Vow, host Eric Kennedy sits down with Zach and Troyer, two men navigating life, dating, and discipline on the other side of addiction. Today's episode is unique in that neither of these guys are married, both are rebuilding and in a world where partying was once the norm, they open up about what it means to stay sober, stay focused. Maybe you are listening to this and you are getting back into the dating scene, or you have a child or friend who is walking through this season right now, share this episode with them! Zach, just a few months into his sobriety, shares how a toxic relationship, a Cowboys game, and a gut decision changed his life. Troyer, nine years sober and once the star of an MTV reality show, reveals how fame, fighting, and fatherhood led him to the brink — and how divine appointments (and one very persistent gym bro) helped him build a new identity. Together, they unpack what dating looks like in recovery, the lies of the party lifestyle, and how small wins at the gym can lead to big victories in life. My guest this week is Tabin Almond who shares her powerful journey from high-functioning drinking to lasting sobriety. In this episode: Tabbin grew up in a drinking culture and entered the boozy world of advertising. She tried AA but couldn't relate – the labeling and negative focus didn't resonate. Her breast cancer diagnosis became a pivotal moment Tabbin read This Naked Mind and had coaching support to stop drinking for good. She's now a certified alcohol-free coach working with professionals and organisations. She's written a book called Bottling Up Trouble – which explores the hidden costs of alcohol in the workplace. There are some fascinating statistics in her book – including the fact that: 94% of people lie about alcohol-related sick days. The book also examines how workplace drinking culture impacts productivity, safety, inclusion, and wellbeing. Tabbin encourages companies to shift away from booze-centric bonding events and lead with empathy. She has a free assessment tool which you can access here:- bottlinguptrouble.com – this assessment tool enables both leaders and employees to review any problem areas and start a dialogue Her book advocates for compassion, culture change, and better health education around alcohol.
