How Branding (Not Trends) Built a Multimillion-Dollar Jewelry Empire ft. Lisa Valenzuela

She turned $1,000 and a table at a local market into a multimillion-dollar jewelry empire. What started as a creative outlet for Lisa Valenzuela nearly 20 years ago has grown into Truly Blessed Jewels, a brand known for its timeless designs and bold identity.  From her earliest days selling jewelry in farmers' markets, Lisa understood that people weren't just buying a product. They were buying into how the brand made them feel. That mindset, combined with her relentless work ethic and faith, created loyalty that no trend could ever replicate.  Today, Truly Blessed Jewels has grown beyond jewelry pieces into signature services like permanent jewelry and customized experiences that keep customers coming back. At its core, the brand remains what it has always been: a vision rooted in service, a business grounded in faith, and proof that branding built on authenticity will always outlive every trend. This week's episode is bittersweet. After two years of laughter, learning, and countless “aha” moments, Heather is saying goodbye as co-host of the No More Wasted Days podcast. In this heartfelt conversation, Heather opens up about: Why listening to your intuition becomes so much clearer when you're alcohol-free The difference between intuition and anxiety—and how to know which voice you're hearing What “the work” really looks like in sobriety (spoiler: it's not a rigid manual, it's simple next-right-thing choices) Her own journey through stress, burnout, and learning to simplify life without alcohol Memorable moments from past episodes—everything from deep values work to cracking up over “almond brothers” and making your bed You'll also hear Sara and Heather reflect on their favorite podcast memories, what they've learned from each other, and why laughter has been such an important part of tackling tough topics together. Although Heather is stepping away as co-host, she's still active in the Day Makers community, leading coaching calls and supporting people on their alcohol-free journeys. You'll likely hear her voice again as a guest on future episodes, and she's also working on an exciting new memoir project.

Curtis Morley is an author, coach, speaker, and "emotionologist" who has been an entrepreneur for most of his life. He is the author of The Entrepreneur's Paradox, a Wall Street Journal bestseller. He also has a forthcoming book titled Counterfeit Emotions. His work focuses on helping people, including entrepreneurs, with personal development and growth. He has founded multiple companies and worked with many Fortune 100 businesses. He has also been recognized with awards such as Entrepreneur of the Year and has been included in the Inc. 500/5000 Hall of Fame. Morley's work and speaking engagements often center on the concept of "counterfeit emotions"—feelings that may seem authentic but can lead to destructive cycles of disconnection. He has developed a framework to help people identify and replace these emotions with authentic ones to live a more fulfilling life. Links Transcript available with the video in the Zion Lab community The Entrepreneur's Paradox: How to Overcome the 16 Pitfalls Along the Startup Journey CounterfeitEmotions.com/recovery RecoveryNotSobriety.com Highlights Curtis focuses on the myths surrounding pornography addiction. The discussion emphasizes the distinction between sobriety and recovery, exploring how understanding emotions can lead to more effective healing. Key Insights Sobriety vs. Recovery: Sobriety measures how long one can abstain from pornography, while recovery focuses on understanding and processing underlying emotions. True recovery involves addressing the root causes rather than merely avoiding the behavior. Myth of Willpower: Overcoming pornography addiction is not solely about willpower. Many individuals struggle with deeper emotional issues that drive their behaviors, making it essential to address these emotions rather than just the actions. Shame vs. Guilt: Guilt can be a motivating emotion that encourages individuals to make amends, while shame leads to disconnection and despair. Understanding this distinction is crucial for effective recovery. Connection and Community: Building connections and fostering community can significantly aid recovery. Isolation often exacerbates addiction, while supportive relationships can provide the necessary encouragement and accountability. The Importance of Processing Emotions: Curtis introduces the "whole" method for processing emotions, which includes witnessing emotions, harmonizing through breathing, opening the mind to triggers, leading one's life, and editing the meaning of past experiences. Leadership Applications Creating Safe Spaces: Latter-day Saint leaders can foster environments where individuals feel safe to discuss their struggles with pornography and other issues without fear of judgment, encouraging open dialogue. Focus on Emotional Health: Leaders should prioritize understanding the emotional triggers behind behaviors rather than just addressing the behaviors themselves. This approach can lead to more meaningful support and healing. Encouraging Community Support: Leaders can facilitate peer support groups or mentorship programs that promote connection among members, helping individuals feel less isolated in their struggles and more empowered in their recovery journey. 00:02:15 - Understanding Sobriety vs. Recovery 00:06:49 - The Difference Between Sobriety and Recovery 00:09:06 - Emotional Triggers and Leadership 00:10:08 - The Myth of Sobriety 00:12:12 - Transformational Recovery 00:13:27 - Sobriety is Miserable, Recovery is Peaceful 00:15:02 - Taking Your Demons to Lunch 00:18:08 - Addiction to Shame 00:19:09 - Addressing the Root Causes 00:20:21 - The Loop of Shame and Addiction 00:22:36 - Guilt vs. Shame 00:24:06 - Identifying and Surfacing Demons 00:26:44 - The Importance of Connection 00:29:34 - The Role of Community in Recovery 00:30:17 - The Whole Method Explained 00:36:21 - Overview of the Myths The award-winning Leading Saints Podcast is one of the top indep...

Today I'm speaking with Edward Latimore—author of “Sober Letters to My Drunken Self”. He's a former professional boxer, and in this episode, we explore his powerful journey from growing up in the projects, his life of addiction, and how he is now living a life of sobriety, self-mastery, and success.  Edward's story is about resilience, personal accountability, and the power of writing and community as tools for healing. Before we jump in, let's talk a little bit about recovery resistance. It's a term I use to describe that feeling of rebelliousness when we hear suggestions of things we could do for our recovery. It could be anything from journaling every morning, to spending 30 minutes meditating, letting go of toxic relationships, or even attending 12 step meetings, just to name a few. I actually dedicated a whole chapter in my book “The 12 Step Guide For Skeptics: Clearing Up Common Misconceptions Of A Path To Sobriety”. The truth is, we experience internal resistance for a good reason, which is ultimately rooted in our subconscious need for safety. But there comes a point when we recognize that some of our habits actually threaten our safety, like addiction, and we need to take action to change that. This is where it gets sticky. You might be aware that you need to change, so you seek answers, but actually taking action - like the exercise, meditation, self-reflection, step work, therapy etc - we balk. We get distracted. We procrastinate.  To combat this resistance, I have a few solutions listed in the book, but here's a quick 4 step process to help you close the gap between knowledge and action. Recognize that resistance or procrastination is a stress response. Try to give yourself some compassion. Practice a technique called “chunking”. Take the task at hand and break it down into tiny little steps. Commit to taking action for 2 minutes at a time Do a 3 second countdown and MOVE. Don't think, just act on that first 2 minute chunk. That's it! And chances are, once you start taking action, momentum will carry you through. If that feels helpful to you, please be sure to get a copy of my book through Amazon. It's full of mindset shifts, little bits of wisdom I've picked up over the years, and some practical suggestions on how to get and stay sober.  So without further delay, please enjoy this episode, and let me know what you think! In this Think Thursday episode, Molly explores the growing field of environmental neuroscience and what new research is uncovering about microplastics and brain health. Microplastics are everywhere—from oceans and soil to food and even the air we breathe. While they have long been recognized as an environmental issue, scientists are now finding evidence that they may also influence how the brain functions and ages.Molly explains how microplastics can interact with the brain through inflammation, oxidative stress, and disrupted signaling. She shares a striking new study linking microplastic exposure in genetically vulnerable mice to Alzheimer's-like changes, and she unpacks what this might mean for humans. Alongside the science, Molly offers practical strategies to reduce exposure and emphasizes that protecting your brain is about progress, not perfection. What You'll Learn in This EpisodeWhat microplastics are and how they enter our bodiesWhy researchers are concerned about their effects on the brainThe role of neuroinflammation, oxidative stress, and disrupted signaling in everyday symptoms like brain fog and mood changesHow environmental exposures may interact with genetic risk factors for dementiaSeven practical steps you can take to reduce microplastic exposure in daily lifeKey Quote“Protecting your brain is never about one big thing. Send us a textFinding peace amid the chaos of your own mind might be recovery's greatest challenge. In this eye-opening episode, Stefani shares her remarkable journey from addiction to awakening, revealing how the 12 Steps silenced the cruel voices that had dominated her thoughts for years."The steps removed so many voices in my head that I didn't know existed until they were gone," Stefani reflects, describing the vicious internal dialogue that kept her trapped in patterns of self-hatred long before substances entered the picture. Her story illuminates how isolation becomes both symptom and perpetuator of addiction—a psychological prison built brick by brick through years of trying to fit in where she didn't belong. We dive deep into the raw realities of recovery, from the exhaustion that can masquerade as depression to the societal conditioning that leaves many women feeling perpetually inadequate. Stefani's journey toward embracing nonconformity offers a powerful metaphor for recovery itself: "I spent my whole life trying to fit a circle into a square...if I'm a fucking circle, I'm a fucking circle and I'm gonna go find other circles and we're gonna be happy."The conversation takes unexpected turns through discussions of metal detectors, Chinese food in Mexico, and Stephanie's almost miraculous legal reprieve after eight years with a felony warrant. Throughout these seemingly disparate topics runs a consistent thread—recovery doesn't just mean getting sober; it means discovering who you truly are beneath years of masks and misconceptions.Whether you're personally in recovery, love someone who is, or simply seek deeper understanding of the human condition, this episode offers wisdom, laughter, and the profound reminder that authentic connection is the antidote to isolation. Molly explains what these patterns can look like, what the science actually says, and how to notice if they are showing up in your own life. You will learn:Why drinking alone is not automatically a problem, but can become risky when it is habitual or emotionally drivenHow drinking secrecy shows up, from subtle minimizing to not being truthful with yourself about how much you are drinkingWhat studies tell us about the link between these behaviors and alcohol use disorderWhy living alone creates unique challenges when it comes to alcohol habitsSix practical, science-based strategies for disrupting automatic patterns and building awarenessA free self-check tool from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) that can help you reflect honestly on your drinkingIf you have ever wondered whether drinking alone or minimizing your drinking is impacting your relationship with alcohol, this episode offers clarity and compassion along with practical steps you can take right away.Resources mentioned in this episode:NIAAA Self-Assessment Tool: Rethinking DrinkingThe PB and J strategy The Alcohol Minimalist Facebook GroupLow risk drinking guidelines from the NIAAA:Healthy men under 65:No more than 4 drinks in one day and no more than 14 drinks per week.Healthy women (all ages) and healthy men 65 and older:No more than 3 drinks in one day and no more than 7 drinks per week. One drink is defined as 12 ounces of beer, 5 ounces of wine, or 1.5 ounces of 80-proof liquor. So remember that a mixed drink or full glass of wine are probably more than one drink.Abstinence from alcoholAbstinence from alcohol is the best choice for people who take medication(s) that interact with alcohol, have health conditions that could be exacerbated by alcohol (e.g. liver disease), are pregnant or may become pregnant or have had a problem with alcohol or another substance in the past.Benefits of “low-risk” drinkingFollowing these guidelines reduces the risk of health problems such as cancer, liver disease, reduced immunity, ulcers, sleep problems, complications of existing conditions, and more.
