When people can choose what's easiest for them and have a great experience every time, it contributes to creating a flawless experience. AI, automation, and technology can make things easier and faster for both customers and employees. If used correctly, technology provides employees with the most accurate and complete information available, enabling them to answer customer questions quickly. Retail isn't dead. It's just become impersonal for many customers. However, if you create a store experience that's good, local, and personalized, people will come to your store. When you make your store about real, personal connections in the community, you give people a reason to want that face-to-face experience again. Sam Parfitt is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of The True Athlete Project. He holds an MSc in Sport Policy, Management and International Development from the University of Edinburgh, where he then became an associate tutor. His dissertation focused on the role of sport coaches as social change-makers, basing his research at The Crags Centre - a community sports center in an area of high deprivation in Scotland, where Sam was the sport-for-wellbeing manager. Sam is a certified mindfulness teacher and a USPTA professional tennis coach, with experience coaching all ages and standards - from total beginners to internationally-ranked juniors. A former tennis player, Parfitt won the 2006 London Youth Games and three British Tour doubles titles before moving to the United States in 2009 on a division one college tennis scholarship where he became a two-time All American Scholar Athlete. While Sam suffered with much ill health during his time in the States, Sam endeavored to use his experiences in sport - both positive and negative - to help others. His academic work centered around sport and identity, and he became intimately involved in establishing projects which used sport as an agent for social change. National Broadband Ireland (NBI), the company rolling out the National Broadband Plan (NBP) has today (Wednesday) hosted an event on Achill Island to mark the first connections to high-speed fibre broadband on the remote island Main build works on the island infrastructure are now complete enabling over 2,500 homes, farms and businesses to high-speed broadband. This means that residents of Ireland's largest island will have the same access to 2 Gig, reliable, broadband as any of the over 380,000 premises that NBI has already passed across the country. Minister for Culture, Communications and Sport, Patrick O'Donovan, T.D., was present at the event which included local public representatives, community groups and residents from the island. Minister O'Donovan said: "The National Broadband Plan is one of the largest State infrastructure projects since rural electrification, and ensures that no community, home or business is left behind from a connectivity point of view. This means that delivering broadband infrastructure to the residents of Achill Island is a natural extension of this mandate. "I'm delighted to be here today to witness first-hand the impact that this investment and connectivity to high-speed broadband is having for homes, businesses and the entire island community who will reap the benefits of it for decades to come." David McCourt, Founder and Chairman of National Broadband Ireland, commented: "At NBI, we are working to the mandate from Government to ensure that no town, village, or community will be left behind under the National Broadband Plan. No premises is too rural or too remote and we're proud to be here on Achill Island - one of 27 offshore islands in our rollout - to mark the availability of our world-class fibre network." This week Nicola and Di chat with the brilliant journalist, broadcaster and presenter Kumi Taguchi. Kumi has been working in the Australian media for almost 30 years, since she landed her first job as a Production Assistant for the 7.30 Report in the 90s. Kumi talks to us about the estranged relationship she had with her father and the unbelievable moment they shared in Japan when Kumi went to close that chapter in her life, and the universe sent her a glaring sign that it was far from closed. Kumi talks about what it was like growing up as half Japanese and half Australian, and how it was actually her Australian mother that kept the Japanese culture alive in her home. Kumi shares the beautiful moment when a Japanese woman on a train in Tokyo, helped her to reframe how she thinks about her heritage in the most powerful way. We also chat about some of the incredible personal challenges that Kumi has achieved - like that time she ran a marathon in the middle of the desert, or the time she was in the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, despite the fact that she had no sailing experience and a history of getting sea sick. My guest today is Honesty Liller. Honesty Liller has been in recovery from substance use disorder since May 27, 2007, and is a Certified Peer Recovery Specialist in Virginia. She began using drugs and alcohol at age twelve and didn't achieve lasting recovery until she was twenty-six, after struggling with heroin addiction for the final nine years of her active use. Honesty is the best-selling author of Scattered Pink and serves as the Chief Executive Officer of The McShin Foundation, a nationally accredited peer-to-peer Recovery Community Organization (RCO) that supports individuals and families impacted by substance use disorders. In 2007, McShin helped save Honesty's life when she resided in their female recovery residence for five months. After completing the program, she began working at McShin, initially wanting only to give back, but her passion and dedication evolved into a career helping others with substance use disorders. Her focus is particularly on helping mothers in recovery, a cause that resonates deeply with her personal journey.
