In this episode we invited Dr Hazel Keedle to discuss birth after caesarean. We dispelled the myth of 'once a caesarean always a caesarean', discussed the risks and benefits of planning a vaginal birth vs repeat caesarean and talked about the best things women can do to set themselves up from the beginning to have the birth experience they hoped for when planning their next birth after caesarean. As always, there is a butt load of evidence to support our discussion and B adds a new word to the 'b-ism' dictionary... bone hole... the bones where your baby comes out from... your bone hole. You'll also get a chance to win Hazels new book, 'birth after caesarean'. You can join our mailing list at www.melaniethemidwife.com

"The biological changes, the chemical changes that happen in the brain when people get a sense of inference and control is huge. It's massive." This week Julian and Hazel conclude their conversation about Hazel's amazing work after the enormous success of the Beacon project in Cornwall. While Hazel had a disappointing stint with the Government, who failed to grasp the importance of what she achieved, her success did not go unnoticed. Through speaking up and down the country Hazel met a hoard of doctors, and various academics, who understood how transformative the Beacon project had been. Hazels work since then has been no less successful. And throughout all of it she has held onto the key principles that drove the initial project - connection, listening, and giving people space. While it sounds simple, it is incredibly hard to execute with authenticity. For more information on the work that Hazel has done you can hear last week's episode, and also look at C2. In Woody Agriculture, crops would be planted only once in a lifetime. The use of woody perennials for agricultural staple commodities production would result in little or no use of tillage, as well as the presence of a permanent cover during both the growing and the dormant seasons. Not only would this lead to a vastly lower rate of soil loss and less runoff into water supplies and aquatic environments, but there would be a reduced need for the fossil fuels consumed in plowing and tilling. In addition, use of pesticides needed for the establishment of annual plants could be sharply reduced. A further important benefit would be the reduction of soil compaction, since far fewer trips through the fields with heavy equipment would be required. Key Takeaways: Breeding: You cannot work with more than two traits at the same time. The most important trait is to have a population that actually survives. When you sell products off of your farm (like nuts) you are exporting a lot of minerals. It is important to remineralize your soil. You can use sheep and chickens in hazelnut systems to remineralize and fertilize the soil. Hickory and Pecan work well with hazelnuts. Chestnuts don't do as well given different soil pH requirements. Find the old timers growing tree species that you want to grow in your area. They may have long tested genetics suited for your area. Hazels are wind pollinated, so you don't' need immediate close proximity for insect pollination. Coppicing to the ground every 10 years can help to rejuvenate the plants. Art is everywhere, and according to most definitions, can be pretty much anything. Yet somehow when art is put indoors, into a formal setting, it somehow can become pretty intimidating. Like somehow just putting it in a frame and on a wall makes us second guess if we really ‘get’ it, or if we’re even capable of getting it. Our overly self conscious hang-ups aside, today’s guest argues that we can all appreciate art. Ann Hazel’s is a wonderful, down to earth gallery owner that just wants you to have a great experience with art.

Indie-rock band Hazels are set to release their second single next month. In Control, is the follow up to their debut single, This Ain’t A Game and was produced by John Martindale and recorded at Newcastle’s Blank Studios. After the success of This Ain’t A Game, the five-piece firmly established themselves as one of the North East’s most exciting new bands of 2014.
Point 1 From the car park we’ll walk the half mile to the entrance to the woodland where we’ll see Larch or Pines, soon to be replace with native trees such as Oaks and Hazels. This will make the woodland a better habitat for native flora and fauna. Point 2 Watertons watch tower. Charles Waterton created the world’s first nature reserve here in the grounds of Walton Hall and part of Haw Park wood. Point 3 The wall was built to keep poachers out and protect the wildlife within. It’s three miles long and an average of nine feet high. Point 4 Five Ways - you may find where the pixies live… Point 5 Here are some of the rarest trees in the county, Wild Service trees whose fruit was used in medieval times for flavouring beer. Point 6 Blue Bridge spanning the old Barnsley canal dated 1828. Point 7 The beautiful Cold Hiendley reservoir, constructed to top up the canal due to use of the locks. Point 8 Fox Well, named after the foxes seen regularly watering here. Point 9 From here, if you’re quiet and still you may well see foxes and our native Roe deer.
