Avec 1,6 million de donneurs chaque année, le don du sang est un acte de solidarité bien connu des Français. Moins connu, le don de plasma, un dérivé du sang, progresse toutefois en France, avec une augmentation de 16% en 2024 par rapport à 2023. Une croissance que l'Établissement français du sang (EFS) veut accélérer dans le cadre de son programme baptisé « Ambition plasma ». Il vise à mobiliser plusieurs centaines de milliers de nouveaux donneurs chaque année, d'ici à 2028. Arame Mbengue s'est rendue à Bobigny, en région parisienne, dans l'une des Maisons du don de l'EFS. Le plasma, c'est le liquide dans lequel circulent les cellules sanguines telles que les globules rouges et blancs, entre autres. Il est très riche en protéines. Son utilisation sous forme de médicaments dérivés du sang ou par transfusion permet de soigner des milliers de patients. Dans la salle de prélèvement de la Maison du don de Bobigny, située à l'hôpital Avicenne, une donneuse effectue pour la deuxième fois un don de plasma. Elle raconte ce qui l'a poussé à donner : « La première fois, c'est tout simplement parce que j'ai réalisé que j'étais en bonne santé, et je me suis dit ''pourquoi pas''. Puisque je suis donneuse universelle, donc autant donner. Et la deuxième fois, on m'a recontactée, parce qu'il y avait un manque. On m'a demandé si je voulais bien venir, et j'ai dit ''OK, pas de problème''. »  Pendant le prélèvement, seul le plasma de cette donneuse est extrait par la machine. Le reste du sang est immédiatement réinjecté dans son organisme, comme l'explique Alice, infirmière de l'EFS : « La machine récupère le sang et vient filtrer le plasma grâce à un retors qui vient utiliser la force centrifuge pour pouvoir filtrer les globules rouges et le plasma. On récupère le plasma et on réinjecte les globules rouges au donneur. » Mais avant d'arriver à la salle de prélèvement du plasma, les donneurs passent d'abord par différentes étapes. D'abord un passage à l'accueil, puis un entretien médical. Une étape essentielle, pour le docteur Bayazid Belhadj-Kacem, responsable des prélèvements : « C'est pour déterminer l'éligibilité, voir si la personne prend des médicaments, si elle se fait soigner pour x maladies, si elle est rentrée d'un pays à risques, ou si elle a un comportement à risques... Si tous les voyants sont au vert, la personne est éligible au don, et elle est invitée bien sûr à donner son plasma. »  Avec son programme « Ambition plasma », l'Établissement français du sang vise à prélever un 1 400 000 litres de plasma en 2028 contre 870 000 litres en 2024. Un enjeu de souveraineté sanitaire pour la France, qui importe des médicaments dérivés du sang. Laure Bouguignat, directrice de l'EFS Île-de-France, nous dit l'importance des dons français : « On a besoin de plasma pour fabriquer des médicaments issus de ce plasma. Pour l'instant, la France est loin d'être autosuffisante, et elle dépend, en fait, de ce qui est collecté au niveau des États-Unis pour la fabrication des médicaments dérivés du sang. »   Le don de plasma est réalisé uniquement dans les maisons du don de l'EFS et sur rendez-vous, partout en France métropolitaine. Cows on the postbiotic treatment received 25 grams per day topdressed on their TMR. Before calving, the postbiotic had no effect on dry matter intake, body condition sore, body weight, or total VFAs. After calving, the postbiotic increased dry matter intake and milk yield after 6 weeks, and increased energy-corrected milk and fat-corrected milk with no effect on body weight, body condition score, or rumen fermentation profile.PhD Poster Guest: Amanda Fischer-Tlustos, University of Guelph Abstract 2012: Characterization of dry-period mammary acetate and glucose metabolism and their association with colostrum production in multiparous Holstein cattle. (25:15)Amanda's research evaluated acetate and glucose metabolism in the mammary gland during the dry and calving periods to better understand how colostrum is made. Acetate uptake by the udder remained fairly constant until one week before calving, when it started to increase. Glucose uptake did not increase until the onset of calving. Previous lactation milk production and far-off mammary metabolism were both negatively correlated with colostrum production. The transcriptional profile of neuro-like cells changed when collected from cows with subclinical ketosis, which may indicate a potential regulatory role in adipose tissue metabolism. This week Ubuntu has released 25.10, and they broke Flatpak support. Qualcomm has purchased Arduino, and we're not sure that's a good thing. Dust to Dust, Weirdos! Welcome back to KEEP IT WEIRD!! The podcast for all things strange, unusual, paranormal, supernatural, creepy, gross, scary, sticky and everything in between! Ålen, Norway to be exact in a 15 mile valley known as Hessdalen where for almost an entire century very strange lights have been appearing in the sky.  No matter the weather, regardless of day or night these lights show up in bright whites, yellows and reds - sometimes for over an hour!  Sometimes they streak through the sky, other times they sway slowly back and forth.  But what the h e double hockey sticks are they?!  UFOs?!  Plasma?  Ball lightning?  A natural phenomenon we literally don't know about yet?!  We break down the scientific discoveries that we DO know along with all the questions we still have about the HESSDALEN LIGHTS. Then Ashley takes a different look at the sky in an ITS THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT!   Something is headed our way and its massive.  3i/Atlas is the third interstellar object (that we have ever observed) to pass through our solar system and it's en route as we speak!  Most experts believe it's a comet, although some are more skeptical of it's behavior.  But that's not why we're here-- we're here to talk about what some OTHER folks believe this object to be.  Something called the BLUE STAR KACHINA aka SAQUASOHUH- an apocalyptic prophecy from North America's own Hopi Native Tribes.  This bright blue star is said to come from far away and crash into our skies in the "Day of Purification" and is described as a "world engulfing cataclysm" that will end life as we know it for everyone who isn't truly Hopi. The only problem is that the legend didn't actually come from Hopi legends and it was written by a white man in the 60s.  OOPS!! Ah well, we'll get em' next time boys.
