Bob Enyart interviews Bevelyn Beatty after NYC police arrested her and her ministry accomplice Edmee Chavannes, for protesting at a Manhattan abortion mill just a mile from where the same week the liberal media promoted mass protests and even defended rioting. Then a viral video presented the ladies preaching as foreign missionaries in Seattle's Province of Chaz. The gals' founded At the Well Ministries to share Jesus, one city at a time! And they're doing it! Bob plays a bit of audio from BEL in 2018 when he met Bevelyn at Denver's abortuary and the two discuss the role of Ken and Jo Scott in mentoring and training this dynamic duo of Bevelyn and Edmee! * Liberals HATE Anti-Communists: Hollywood, Hillary, Homosexuals, Humanists, Hillary (did I say Hillary?), et al., HATE anti-communists like Sen. Joe McCarthy, the John Birch Society, and the House Un-American Activities Committee, even though none of these have ever murdered anyone, whereas the left has always had a soft spot in their hearts for the godless communist Soviet Union that killed about twenty million people, until... * Murdering Millions or Losing an Election? Which is the last straw for Democrats? As long as the former Soviet Union was only guilty of murdering millions of their own people (via democide), leftists had a warm place in their heart for Russia. But let them imagine the Russians tilting one election, and their disapproval rages. Ironically, the actual Russia campaign collusion was when the DNC and Hillary Clinton paid millions for a foreign spy to collect anonymous Russian disinformation in hopes the dossier would interfere with the election. Thus the New York Times won the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction by ignoring the real ones and connecting dots that never actually connected. See this also at kgov.com/russia. Programming Note: Viral video gal Bevelyn Beatty confirmed for a BEL broadcast on Tuesday, July 7th! Bob Enyart reports briefly on Matt Drudge's apparent abduction (or rejection, as in, hell hath no fury like a gossip columnist scorned), on the Pope's confused request for help, and on the Tulsa thug who resisted arrest severely injuring one officer and murdering another. Then Bob continues his "clear thinking segments" using as fodder the atheist "Euthyphro" argument. Google ranks Bob's Christian reply #1 at kgov.com/euthyphro. On Euthyphro Part 1 Bob introduced Socrates' argument and in Part 2 evaluated the Divine Command View. Today in Part 3 He introduces what's called the Recognition View. Bob Enyart says, "We told you so." He reads our July 2005 press release warning Christian leaders to drop their support for the known child-killer John Roberts. Now, after promoting the aggressive homosexual agenda, and Obamacare, and wildly expanding immoral and insane transexual "rights", today he open voted in favor of the abortionist. Seems like of a hundred conservative talk shows and another hundred pro-life Christian organizations, only BEL warned Christians back in 2005 of what John Roberts said in his 2003 D.C. Circuit Court confirmation hearing, that: “Roe v. Wade is the settled law of the land. ... There's nothing in my personal views that would prevent me from fully and faithfully applying that precedent.” Today's Resource: God's Principles of Government Join Bob Enyart as he explores God's Principles of Government. Thugs shot 104 people in Chicago just over this past weekend. Don't ask why. If you don't know why, you're better off thinking about it for a moment rather than asking (probably for the 1000th time in your life), "Why?" And, please don't ask why the media doesn't expose something when it's perfectly obvious to you and to everyone else that they actually support exactly what you're asking them to expose. Bob also announces a guest we hope to have on air next week, Bevelyn! She's of kgov.com/bevelyn and Edmee fame, even more famous now after their ministry trip to Chaz to rebuke the wicked and call them to repentance! And Bob introduced the online Flip Book of Dr. Walt Brown's In the Beginning, which is right here at hpt.rsr.org! Then we air the final segments of what we're billing as likely the first-ever televised predestination and free-will debate. * The Truth is Black & White: Bob Enyart airs audio from famous black actors, musicians, authors, talk hosts, news anchors, and others making the point that it hurts black to blame non-existent systemic racism for poverty, crime, and even epidemic murder, in the black community. Hear from CNN's Dawn Lemon and from Morgan Freeman, Li'l Wayne, David Webb, Terrence Floyd, and others. * Barr on Coup: First though hear a very quick clip of A.G. Bob Barr succinctly admitting that the Obama administration officials were attempting a coup to illegally depose a U.S. president. * Fake News on "Spike" in "Cases": Bob reports on the media's COVID Fake News which includes every headline of an "Increase" or "Spike" in coronavirus "cases" that does not put the results within the context of increased testing. Fake, for example, would be counting someone who tests positive for HIV but does not have AIDS symptoms as another "AIDS" case. There's an enormous difference between having the virus and having the disease. To report what's actually happening while minimizing confusion the media should focus on death, which, of all the various coronavirus statistics provides the greatest big-picture insight. See the six weeks worth of steadily declining U.S. Covid Deaths in the chart (right) and consider this accurate headline from yesterday: COVID-19 cases rise as hospitalizations remain low in Colorado. And see kgov.com/covid. Today's Resource: Nicer Than God Enjoy this fast-paced critique of religion where Bob Enyart presents questions such as: When should a Christian lie? Should he ever mock? Bob's photo of Edmee & BevelynBob Enyart thanks the abolitionists who gave $1,700 all of which Denver Bible Church has sent for emergency relief to Nairobi, Kenya where the shutdown is likely to kill more people than the disease. Bob also mentions our friends Edmee and Bevelyn, two black gals who have been preaching in CHAZ (as tweeted out by Diamond and Silk, Matt Walsh, and thousands of others) and who this month were arrested back east for protesting at an abortion clinic while authorities approved of leftist protests occuring simultaneously. Bob also discusses the Republican kgov.com/judicial-crisis as evidenced once again by Republican justices, including this time John Roberts and Neal Gorsuch, further unravel America's moral fabric. (See below for the bogus Kavanaugh "dissent".) Then BEL gets to the penultimate "Stop the tape! Stop the tape!" airing of Bob's debate from the 1990s with a Calvinist pastor in which Bob shares that "hope" is knowledge influenced by love and mercy, whereas a Calvinist thinks that God "hoping" would be a sign of weakness and error. See also OpenTheism.org's Verses Category 3 and Category 1. Today's Resource: Predestination & Free Will SeminarSo much is at stake when people consider predestination and free will. Strong emotions often surface with a discussion of this topic. That passion points to our critical need to understand the truth regarding whether or not God has predetermined who will go to heaven and who will go to hell. Also, the question of whether or not God has planned out each person’s life affects us. Does God have a plan for your life? Does a blueprint exist for your future? Did God predetermine whether or not you would get married, and to whom? Did God plan whether you would be wealthy or poor, happy or sad? If God does plan your life, does He do so in minute detail or in general themes? If God has a plan for your life, are you able to alter that plan? This topic directly influences people concerning how they live their lives. As Christians, we must seek God to accurately portray the LORD to others. For any misrepresentation of God will dishonor Him and perhaps bring harm to those misled. You can now order the seminar video in a 3-DVD set or MP4 video download. * Brett Kavanaugh's "Dissent" was Nothing but Process: To find this legal-positivist justice's dissent in Bostock v. Clayton County search (Ctrl-f) for kavanaugh in the opinion's pdf, which includes this... For several decades, Congress has considered numerous bills to prohibit employment discrimination based on sexual orientation. But as noted above, although Congress has come close, it has not yet shouldered a bill over the legislative finish line. In the face of the unsuccessful legislative efforts (so far) to prohibit sexual orientation discrimination, judges may not rewrite the law simply because of their own policy views. Judges may not update the law merely because they think that Congress does not have the votes or the fortitude. Judges may not predictively amend the law just because they believe that Congress is likely to do it soon anyway. If judges could rewrite laws based on their own policy views, or based on their own assessments of likely future legislative action, the critical distinction between legislative authority and judicial authority that undergirds the Constitution’s separation of powers would collapse, thereby threatening the impartial rule of law and individual liberty. As James Madison stated: “Were the power of judging joined with the legislative, the life and liberty of the subject would be exposed to arbitrary control, for the judge would then be the legislator.” The Federalist No. 47, at 326 (citing Montesquieu). If judges could, for example, rewrite or update securities laws or healthcare laws or gun laws or environmental laws simply based on their own policy views, the Judiciary would become a democratically illegitimate super-legislature—unelected, and hijacking the important policy decisions reserved by the Constitution to the people’s elected representatives.
Turns out between whites and blacks, sure enough, per capita, blacks are doing almost all the interratial killing. Bob Enyart explains that if you hated blacks you would tell them, as the culture and our schools do, that it's impossible to be a racist against a white person and that blacks themselves are unable to be racist. This dehumanizing treatment causes blacks to suffer far more than it does whites. For example, blacks commit murder at eight times the rate of whites according to DOJ homicide statistics from 1980 to 2008 and are victims at a rate six times higher than whites because of the epidemic of black on black and black on white murder. Also on today's program hear an email from a former editor of a Harvard Law School journal lamenting today's horrific U.S. Supreme Court opinion and recognizing, sadly, that BEL has been correct for decades now about Focus on the Family, Nat'l Right To Life, and the Republican Party's strategy for courts being an abject failure. Hear also two minutes of audio from the child-killing justice Neal Gorsuch. Then finally, wow, a patron offers to make a large donation to Denver Bible Church for an article on the downside to foreknowledge so Bob reads what he's written and asks for input, to Bob@kgov.com, before submitting the one-page piece. Today's Resource: Focus on the Strategy 2 Awesome! Six hundred thumbs up! Focus on the Strategy II was filmed before a live audience of 300 Christian activists in the Supreme Court chambers of the Colorado State Capitol building during an event marking to the very day the 40th anniversary of Americas first law legalizing abortion for rape and incest.Focus on the Strategy II not only documents the political sell-out of the pro-life movement, it answers the question of how to restore the movement and end Americas legalized child killing. Focus II stands alone, preferably viewed before Focus I, and documents that: Colorados Republican Governor John Love signed the nations first permissive abortion law in 1967. Republican U.S. Supreme Court Justice Harry Blackmun wrote Roe v. Wade. The 7-to-2 Roe v. Wade ruling was approved with five a Republican majority of five votes. The Republican Justices now on the Court (including Scalia, Thomas, Alito and Roberts) oppose personhood. All six Republican judges on the 11th circuit (nominated by Reagan, Bush Sr. & George W. Bush) voted to kill Terri Schiavo. Republican pro-life heroine Priscilla Owen voted to abort Baby 10 as a Texas Supreme Court judge. Republican pro-life hero Samuel Alito sided with Planned Parenthood in repeated 3rd-circuit rulings, including ruling to keep partial birth abortion legal. Republican George W. Bush refused to support South Dakotas total ban on abortion. Hundreds of pro-life laws that regulate abortion that will actually keep abortion legal after Roe is overturned such as the Informed Consent laws. Focus on the Strategy II includes audio and video clips of: Pro-life Notre Dame law professor Charles Rice criticizing National Right to Life and their strategy. Former presidential candidate and Ambassador Alan Keyes exposing as a pro-life failure the recent Gonzales v. Carhart partial-birth abortion ruling. Columbine dad Brian Rohrbough condemning the hypocrisy of National Right to Life. A debate excerpt between Steve Ertelt of LifeNews.com and the president of Colorado RTL. Founding board member of Natl RTL, John Archibold, condemning NRTL for their immoral and failed strategy. Focus on the Family staff falsely claiming that the recent Carhart ruling outlawed late-term abortion. Pro-life nationally-syndicated Salem Radio host Hugh Hewitt admitting his willingness to vote pro-choice. Syndicated radio host Laura Ingraham with pro-life Bill Kristol on behalf of pro-abortion Rudi Giuliani. National Pro-Life Radio falsely claiming Carhart protected life from the moment of conception. Personal correspondence from Dr. Dobson (on letterhead and by his own hand) exposing the tragic secular humanism and moral relativism among our greatest Christian leaders! In this DVD, longtime Denver talk show host Bob Enyart demonstrates that National RTL has turned over the spiritual direction of our Christian movement to secular lawyers who say that we must obey man rather than God. As a result, the pro-life industry has become primarily a fund-raising wing of the Republican Party. Evidence in Focus on the Strategy II destroys National RTLs false claim that their child-killing regulations save lives. Since the release of this blockbuster video, National Right to Life and the child-killing regulators have been on the defensive, as the personhood wing of the pro-life movement advances!Focus II has done what people thought impossible, it has exceeded the power and insight of Focus I. Milwaukee Pastor Matt Trewhella, after showing the BEL DVD Focus on the Strategy to his congregation in July 2007, told them that "Bob Enyart's Focus on the Strategy is the most important message for the Christian community in a century!" Now, Christian leaders across America are raving about the must-see sequel, Focus II, which you must see to believe. At 50 minutes, Focus on the Strategy II is just the right length to watch in a Sunday School class, or with friends at a video party at home (yours or theirs)! There is no need to watch the prequel Focus on the Strategy, before watching this sequel, however they support one another powerfully!
And, among Hispanics too. But who's counting. Black Lives Matter to the cops not to Black Lives Matter, as we (and every person of understanding) have already said. Today we talk about one of the reasons why racism is not systemic among caucasians but is systemic, and largely unchecked, among blacks. Bob also points out the obvious, that Black Lives Matter reveres mostly only thugs, addicts, criminals, and drunks. Oh, and by the way, try using Google as a tool to find out about the problem of racism among blacks. G-o-o-d LUCK! Bob also previews news we'll be reporting soon, of confirmation of a major cause of Alzheimers, which is a virus that causes a widespread sexually transmitted disease. Finally, Bob presents our sixth episode of the first-ever televised debate on predestination between him and Michigan pastor Brian Schwertley. You don’t regulate crime; you deter crime." See Bob's classic article at AmericanRTL.org/regulations. Dr. Richard Rice, Loma Linda theology professor and a leading advocate of open theism, is interviewed by Denver Bible Church pastor Bob Enyart. (Enyart is the co-founder of opentheism.org.) Dr. Rice's book, The Openness of God, was published in 1980, 14 years before he co-authored the famed 1994 book by the same name that he co-authored with Pinnock, Hasker, Basinger, and Sander. Rice and Enyart have a relaxed and very interesting discussion of open theism and recent developments, and then go back in history to consider the way that Arminius himself wrestled with the matter. * Wrote about Chlorquine before Chloroquine was Cool: Enjoy this rerun of our April 6th 2020 show! The history of chloroquine and malaria provides vital insight into the theory of evolution and the possible future COVID-19. As a public service during the coronavirus pandemic and brought to you by the Crawford family of radio stations, RSR co-host Bob Enyart interviews famed biochemist Michael Behe, groundbreaking author of Darwin's Black Box, The Edge of Evolution, and Darwin Devolves. Dr. Behe helped launch the worldwide intelligent design movement of Ph.D. scientists exposing the failure of the theory of evolution to explain life's diversity. He's written on the history of chloroquine and its effect on the protozoa pathogen that causes malaria (a Plasmodium). That fascinating account reveals a stunning defect in the theory of evolution and also alerts us to the clear possibility that SARS-CoV-2 may mutate, and if so, it could create a second wave of challenging infections. * Programming Notes: - In 2019 RSR interviewed Dr. Behe on Darwin Devloves - Today we aired two programs. Former detective (and now fisherman and a fisher of men) Kevin Hill joins Bob Enyart to discuss the murder of George Floyd by ex-Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. At 6:55 into the NYT's important video (see below), onlookers yell out, "Check his pulse! Check his pulse!" As of the time of this BEL broadcast the ensuing riots have resulted in at least a dozen deaths. Donald Trump (who we strongly oppose including for his funding of aborting a million black babies and many other children) was correct when he stated that looting leads to shooting, and it leads of course to other ways that rioters, and victims, die in riots. Then, wickedly, at the end of the New York Times video and as expected, the paper effectively justifies the violence of the Floyd riots by describing the past week's violence, looting, murder, and arson as, well, as understandable outrage. No, like Chauvin's killing of Floyd, the premediated riots are not understandable. As for Chauvin's guilt, the Minnesota complaint, as shown above, indicates that officer Kueng checked Floyd's wrist for a pulse and could not find one. Yet the knee remained for another two minutes. See more about the charges, just below, and please consider our kgov.com/list-of-ways-to-reduce-crime. * Homicide, Murder, Negligence: Among further particulars in the Floyd case to note, the very top "subdual" line of the county's autopsy supports their cause of death finding released a week later of: "Manner of death: Homicide" and "Cause of death: Cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression". Some have been under the impression that the coroner found a substance-abuse cause of death whereas they did find drugs but not as the cause of death. Some have also claimed that Floyd didn't die at the scene. However, the one-hour later "time of death" was the time when a doctor certified him as dead. The coroner, like the family's autopsy, apparently found that Floyd died while his neck was being compressed. Reviewing the pulse matter, recall that onlookers yelled out, "Check his pulse! Check his pulse!" The complaint quotes Officer Lane saying, "I am worried about excited delirium or whatever" (by which he meant, as Det. Hill points out in today's BEL broadcast, positional asphyxia, with delirium as a complicating factor). Chauvin said (to his credit), "That's why we have him on his stomach." Then at at 8:24:24, Floyd stopped moving. A minute later Officer Lane asked again in vain if they could "roll him on his side." At 8:25:31 Officer Kueng said, and this seems to be among the most serious evidence against Chauvin, that he couldn't find a pulse. Still, Chauvin kept his knee on Floyd's neck for another couple minutes. It seems that anyone who objects to a murder charge would have to take from this information, provided that it is accurate, and conclude that at the very least, Chauvin is guilty of negligent homicide. However, as mentioned below for example in former Judge Jeanine Pirro's recounting of the case, it seems that there is more than sufficient warning to Chauvin to justify a murder charge. Emotions don't usually help sort things out. But those who disagree can try imagining that it was one of their kids on the gorund. I think they could see, as Pirro points out, every single warning given to Chauvin as something he had to consciously reject in order to continue pressing on. We've said on air that the Black Lives Matters heros, which includes Floyd, are all thugs, addicts, criminals, and drunks. Floyd was a bad guy, on drugs, and uncooperative. And regarding Jeanine Pirro, I am no fan of hers either. But the recounting of the case against the officers from this former D.A. takes into account more lines of evidence than just the one video that most people have seen. I believe she is far more correct than incorrect (even though Pirro may have been incorrect in what she says about their department policy). * Jaw-dropping, head-banging, socks blown off, eye-popping, baffled, shocked & stunned: Really. :) Real Science Radio hosts Bob Enyart and Fred Williams have fun providing so many examples of evolutionists (chemical, stellar, biological) being jaw-dropping surprised, shocked, even stunned and horrified, when their huge discoveries contradict some of the most fundamental predictions of their materialist theories. * Head-banging: As reported by LiveScience, cutting-edge researchers running a major National Science Foundation evolution experiment admitted that, "If Darwin was right", they would have documented the evidence for his claimed insight on competition and the (supposed) tree of life. Instead, their results falsified Darwin's claim. Of the 60 species of algae being studied for a five year period, Charles Darwin predicted how well and how poorly such organisms would compete for resources, based on their respective distances from each other on the (supposed) tree of life. But of the outcome, "It was completely unexpected. We sat there banging our heads against the wall. Darwin's hypothesis has been with us for so long, how can it not be right? ... We should be able to look at the [supposed] Tree of Life, and evolution should make it clear who will win in competition and who will lose. But the traits that regulate competition can't be predicted from the Tree of Life." For more, see LiveScience and rsr.org/darwin-was-wrong-about-the-tree-of-life. * 2015 Update: One of many discoveries that could be added to this list of shocked evolutionists is the black hole, at 12.8 billion light-years away, the mass of 12 billion Suns that "simply can't exist" by the big bang theory, but it does. * 2019 Update: Moon may be tectonically active, geologists shaken, is the headline in National Geographic. * 2015 Update: One of many discoveries that could added to this list of shocked evolutionists is the black hole at 12.8 billion light years away the mass of 12 billion Suns that "simply can't exist" by the big bang theory, but does. * 2019 Update: Moon may be tectonically active, geologists shaken, is the headline in National Geographic. Today we air the McCorvey interview that we conducted and then buried back in 2012. First though, regarding Norma's reversal, the godless and bloodthirsty left relishes that in a documentary being released post mortem, she recanted her anti-abortion position. The carcass of Newsweek magazine is the website called the DailyBeast. The Beast admits to being confused (nothing new there), that if Norma's entire conversion was an act, and she was only pretending, then why did she break off her relationship with her lesbian partner whom she continued to live with for years to come? The article says that partner was devastated that their relationship had ended (even though they continued as roomates). It could be that her late-in-years recounting from the nursing home she was living in was not especially accurate. We'll all find out the truth eventually. But her interaction with Flip Benham and other Christians perhaps left her conflicted and not totally lying. As to Norma being paid, whatever is the truth there, it's routine to pay spokesmen (though CRTL and American RTL do not pay their spokespersons). It's also routine to discuss talking points. (See also the statement from Operation Rescue National / Operation Save America director Rusty Thomas, below and hear the end of our interview at kgov.com/norma-mccorvey.) As for Rob Schenck however, who was apparently involved with Norma and who has also since betrayed the Lord by promoting homosexuality and abortion (these typically go together), he was always a dupe. In Part 2 of our abolition trilogy Focus on the Strategy, Schenck makes a 40-second cameo back on April 18, 2007 and we rebuke him for his misinformation. ---------- Forwarded message --------- From: Rusty Thomas Date: Wed, May 20, 2020 at 2:52 PM Subject: Norma McCorvey Controversy To: Bob Enyart By now, most of you may have heard the controversy surrounding Norma McCorvey. The pro-abort/homosexual community has "evidence" that close to death, Norma recanted her conversion. According to them, Norma played both sides that exploited her and used them for personal gain. In other words, her testimony is a fake I just got off the phone with brother Flip Benham who will be issuing a press release and a video to separate fact from fiction. I've had CNN and LA Times contact me a few times with questions. The following is my response. Pray the Lord be glorified and the truth revealed in Jesus' name! When Norma was converted and baptized, our ministry Operation Rescue/Operation Save America took very serious our duty before God our to care for her bruised and battered soul. It is true that both sides to a certain degree exploited Norma for their own purposes. We took a different approach. We cared more about her as a person than what she could do for the cause. We sat her down to root and ground her in the faith, so she would be prepared to face the controversy surrounding her powerful testimony. The Scriptures warn to not lift up a novice before the time, lest they be filled with pride and fall under the commendation of the Devil. We were teaching her the way of Christ, which is, it is better to serve, than to be served. Like most humans, however, we like it the other way around and Norma was no exception. Eventually the Catholic church began to offer her speaking engagements that would not only give her public recognition in the pro-life movement, but speaking fees as well. How much, again, I do not know. Anyway, you had us admonishing Norma to sit down for now to get strengthened in the faith to be equipped to handle the battle ahead before launching into public ministry and others saying the door is wide open to have all these things right now. Norma went with the latter option and the rest they say is history. I truly believe Norma had a genuine conversion, but other things entered in to seek to discredit her testimony and I'm sure the powers that be will take advantage of it to further their pro-abort/homosexual narrative that paints all Christians as hypocrites, charlatans, and liars. Through it all, a few things I truly know, Jesus is still Lord, abortion is still a sin and crime, and the world will use this controversy to justify the evil of abortion. Bob Enyart and Fred Williams complete Real Science Radio's List of 25 Ways the Shutdown Kills People. See the full written list at rsr.org/25 and links to various scientific studies showing how increased death results from economic decline. We've noticed leftists and other Democrats getting angry at this list. But, if you're a conservative Christian, hold onto your hat! Because you might get mad at the guys yourself as they begin today's program quickly calling out their List of 25 COVID Christian Conspiracies. * List of COVID Christian Conspiracies: from the conservative pastor of DBC, after first angering the left with our 25 Ways the Shudown Kills People, now we've angered many on the right, our own natural consituency, with our list of COVID Conspiracies. Millions of Christians lacking discernment swallowed whole each of these absurdities, many of which are contradictory, and risk their mental health by indulging their paranoia... - the coronavirus was never a real threat - the government planned the pandemic (as a power grab) - the media planned the pandemic (to get Trump) - the global elite planned this (toward ushering in the anti-Christ) - Fauci who had said "it's coming" planned this (to make money) - China planned the pandemic (but first infected itself) - the CDC planned this (advertising in 2019 for pandemic workers) - the virus is a Plandemic (even though its clearly natural) - somebody, doesn't matter who, planned this (says my paranoia) - this virus can't be natural ('cause then I can't indulge my paranoia) - a SARS or COVID virus could appear naturally only every 800 years - China created this as a biological weapon (then infected itself) - people can contract SARS-CoV-2 from the flu vaccine - masks increase your risk of contracting the coronavirus - Bill Gates is creating a vaccine to kill millions of people (depopulation) - God's command to not bear false witness doesn't apply to me - KS City ordered churches to turn over membership roles - coronavirus test kits are infecting people with the virus - the Mark of the Beast is a vaccine (Of course! How could it not be!) - any conspiracy always explains whatever crisis occurs - COVID deaths, relatively small in number, are highly exaggerated - $39k paid for each ventilator use (So what? Most have gone unused.) - government plans to forcibly remove children from homes - 5G wireless technology helps to spread the coronavirus - churches have been shut down but not mosques - medical examiners are attributing traffic deaths to COVID - the CDC designed guidelines to overcount COVID deaths - the CDC quietly reduced COVID death count by 23,000 (and see below) - the COVID vaccine is unsafe (yet one doesn't even exist) - Fauci profits from a (non-existent) HIV vaccine and will from COVID - the left is using this crisis (yes, but they use everything, even normalcy) - to receive any of the $100 billion HR 6666 testing money institutions must require everyone entering their facilities to have taken the (non-existent) COVID vaccine. COVID Leftist Conspiracies: - Trump-led racists fabricating Wuhan lab origin - Those urging return to work want people to die - HCQ used safely for 60 years now a very dangerous drug - _________ please send suggestions for leftist or Christian conspiracies to Bob@kgov.com. Like the people in the Bible and taking the Lord as an example, we are far more interested in confronting bad behavior among us Christians, and exposing the misinformation spread by believers, than we are in talking about the overtly obvious left-wing conspiracies. Understanding the Shutdown without Conspiracies: and please send suggestions for this section to Bob@kgov.com. - For decades epidemiologists have proposed shutdown mitigation ideas - Mankind through the 1900s lacked the wealth to even try a shutdown - In late 2019 SARS-CoV-2 jumped from bats to a Wuhan laboratory staffer - That Wuhan lab worker spread the disease in the Wuhan wet market - The communist Chinese lied and covered up igniting a pandemic - The World Health Organization dutifully repeated China's misinformation - President Donald Trump insightfully cut off the US from China - Fauci, the media, the Dems, and the WHO condemned the "overreaction" - May 12th Trump announces unprecedented cutoff of US from Europe - We conservatives, also fearing the virus, did not criticize cutting off Europe - US media and all the left flipped position to now claim Trump underreacted - Epidemiologists, security consultants, etc., given a free hand, will overreact - Prosperity meant eventually nations would try the epidemiologist proposal - Europe's nations closed their borders and not for conspiratorial reasons - First time ever millions (all liberals) hope a drug, HCQ, fails to save lives - Shutdown flattens the "curve" but as at rsr.org/25-ways it also kills people - Leftists and epidemiologists seem oblivious to mass death from recession - NY Gov. Cuomo's Dept of Health ordered nursing homes on March 25th (and reversed on May 10th), "No resident shall be denied re-admission or admission to the NH solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19. NHs are prohibited from requiring a hospitalized resident who is determined medically stable to be tested for COVID-19 prior to admission or readmission." That incompetence led to approaching 5,000 deaths, or nearly 25% of New York's fatalities while hundreds of emergency hospital beds went unused at the Javits Center and on the USNS Comfort. - Late January to late March when a tiny fraction of Americans were dying from the coronavirus, the epidemiologists had justification for their predictions that a major wave of death was coming soon, whereas many pro-Trump conservatives were solidifying a premature belief, based on what they were seeing, that this disease was a minimal concern.- As worldwide daily fatalities for this brand new cause of death race past those of most recent endemics and pandemics and have tied malaria and AIDS and approach pneumonia, U.S. fatalities have average 1,800 deaths daily and higher for a number of days in April and May 2020, and for that duration COVID-19 was the #1 cause of death in America... - Millions of Christians swallowed whole the rsr.org/COVID-conspiracies - Conspiracy allegations make it harder for politicians to back down - The cure is worse than the disease per rsr.org/25-ways-the-shutdown-kills* Wuhan Flu: Those who seek to hold the Chinese communist government accountable for the lies and cover-up behavior that ignited the pandemic can use this map of China coated with the widely-recognized SARS-CoV-2 virus graphic... * Biblical Principles Related to a Drastic Epidemic Mitigation: Consider historical accounts and biblical principles from Joseph, Moses, Nehemiah, and Jesus Himself. In the Book of Leviticus Moses wrote God's commands regarding infectuous disease mitigation 3,000 years before the age of microbiology ushered in by creationist Louis Pasteur. The Lord instructed the Israelites to quarantine, wash, observe, and even at times burn the personal effects of the infirm. That quarantine, of course, was for the person who was ill, and this was for the particular infectuous disease the Israelites were facing at that time. A biblical teaching from a couple centuries earlier in sacred history that is related to drastic action taken by a government in the face of a possibly existential threat comes from the time of Amenemhat III. (He's the source of the ancient expression, Amen, make it so.) The reason that God revealed the coming famine to Joseph was so that the Egyptian government could prepare for a looming drought. Pharaoh undoubtedly expropriated land over the nine miles of what is still today called the Waterway of Joseph. That Bahr Yussef brought the Nile's water to Birket Karun, quadrupling its water acreage. Also undoubledly, thistook a tremendous number of lakefront properties, when Birket Karun became the massive ancient Lake Moeris, filling that valley to become a huge resevoir. Joseph was not known as one of the twelve patriarchs of Jacob at that time, and any displaced landowners, even any who happened to believe in the Creator of the world, if they held the same position as many right-wing Christians today, would have fiercely objected: "The government has no just authority to take away my God-given right to control my own private property! And besides, look at the weather. Looks fine to me! There's no drought in site!" (Sounds like many Christians in January, February, and March 2020. See the almost non-existent daily deaths for those months, above.) When God authorized Nehemiah to return to Jerusalem and build the great wall of the city to mitigate possible future death from invaders, the descendants of Jews and others who had escaped Nebuchadnezzar's army seventy years earlier were living among the rubble of the cities overthrown. Undoubedly here too God's authority extended to the appropriation of land for the wall even over any objections of current residents. "You're not building a wall across my land!", to which Nehemiah if he were in a good mood would have said to his men, "Ignore him." Consider also the significant implication of Jesus' teaching that man was not made for the Sabbath but the Sabbath for man. Selah. * Masks: The world's mitigation efforts have suddenly promoted a medical industry question of effectiveness into a public controversy. For the sake especially of medical staff, hopefully we will improve our understanding of the dynamics involved, even after a hundred years of enormous experience and a lot of study. In 1977 smallpox, a disease from a highly transmissible airborne virus, was eradicated. Three of ten victims died. In case of a reemergence, nursing protocols reiterated even this century call for those around a suspected case to wear masks. With all our conspiracy-minded friends have learned against masks, undoubtedly each would still wear a mask if their work (or love) required them to be around folks like that poor girl, shown here. The mask conspiracy item listed above states the false belief that those who wear masks increase their risk of transmission. Such conspiracists must conclude that over the last century those who wore masks to minimize risk actually increased disease transmission. It appears thast most of those who come to that conclusion and who are also angered thereby don't assume that recommending masks is a well-meaning but ill informed policy, but rather, there must be nefarious reasons motivating the thousands of medical experts who advise wearing them. This later is an indication of a progressing mental health issue evidenced by paranoia. * Traffic Deaths Being Marked as COVID: If you play a trick on your Christian friends and read any of a thousand Bible verses to them, not telling them it's from Scripture, about half will say they disagree with what you've just read. So when Christians en masse instantly accept the claim that coroners are marking traffic fatalities as COVID deaths, that overwhelming uncritical acceptance alone is a good indicator that, as it appears on it's face, it's fake news. Here's a typical BEL email correspondence... Forwarded Conversation Subject: "My cousin knows somebody?" ------------------------ From: K******** Date: Thu, May 14, 2020 at 8:44 AM To: Bob Enyart Bob, I gave my friend a link to your program, and he did enjoy it. But our text exchange went as follows. To my friend: Didn't u say u knew someone whose kid died in a wreck but they put COVID on her death certificate and he has to fight the hospital to change it for insurance purposes? It's interesting all the messages around that start with "my friend knows someone" or "my brother knows someone" etc. His response: Yes. And I heard it again from my doctor Monday. He has a client who’s son just died in a motorcycle accident in Vancouver. They listed the death as Covid. Also my buddies grandmother who was 92, no Covid symptoms, just old, week at the end of her life died in the hospital of natural causes. Listed as Covid. I know a girl in Hawaii that just had a friend pass of pancreatic cancer, listed as Covid. No conspiracy when you hear it over and over again. Sent from my iPad ---------- From: Bob Enyart Date: Fri, May 15, 2020 at 9:19 AM To: K********" Cc: B******** Hey K*******! I've cc'd our dear friend and graphic artist extraordinaire B****** because of the Vancouver area traffic deaths, two of the more tragic ones were children from his town. B..., if you're aware whether the local news reported a recent motorcycle death in the Vancouver area, please let us know. I'm fishing out another spreading conspiracy for our RSR show for May 15th and for our list at rsr.org/covid-conspiracies. K*****, using my lie detector mode, when I read the above exchange, I'm thinking as though I'm interviewing a suspect's friend, and I'm spotting evidence of evasion and likely false information... Q: Didn't u say u knew someone whose kid died in a wreck but they put COVID on her death certificate and he has to fight the hospital to change it for insurance purposes? A: Yes. Oh really? And that's it? With such a pointed question, the only answer is, Yes. Not, "Yes," and then offer the identity of the gal who died, or at least your friend's identity? What's missing that would appear in a truthful answer is: "Yeah, it was Jerry Berry's kid brother, Mark. He died last Tuesday over on Main and 15th. It was a reall mess." But instead of details about the case he knows of personally, he then obfuscates by throwing in questionable and likely uncheckable details about a different case. A continues: And I heard it again from my doctor Monday. He has a client who’s son just died in a motorcycle accident in Vancouver. They listed the death as Covid. Ah, now he gives more details than he just did for the person that he knew. But it turns out that traffic deaths in Vancouver and its surroundings, like in all major cities, are contemporaneously reported and in the last month according to local and Canadian media there were: - three motorcycle accidents in the past month and as of a report six days after the one with the most serious injuries, no report of fatalities - a baby boy was killed and parents injured in a rollover crash on Highway 97 C - two Abbotsford children killed when drowning in a crashed and submerged ATV - a Vancouver island pilot killed in a far-distant Canadian miltary helicopter crash - two fatal boating accidents in the last ten days - new recommendations from a fatal train crash a year ago - finally charges issued in a nearby Malahat crash two years ago - but no fatal motorcyle crashes [UPDATE: other than the tragic one that B***** found from November, which he truly doubts was marked as COVID related.] And even if there had been, the doctor's account would have turned out to be false. Doctors are hardly less susceptible to personalizing the conspiracy theories they spread than are others. And ironically, there's undoubtedly a slightly paranoid doc in Vancouver who's saying a motorcycle death in your friend's city was marked as COVID. (Televangelist faith healers know that trick. They tell donors in Singapore that God raised someone from the dead in Kansas City and when in KC say they did that in Singapore. Piece 'o cake.) A continues: [with two examples that were not fatal crashes marked as covid deaths] These just add details that even if true wouldn't corroborate the original false statement but they're meant to imply that they corroborate it. Lies often are detectable by the details added in order to make them sound more believable. Like, the friend "has to fight the hospital to change [the cause of death] for insurance purposes." Oh, really? Right. Overcounting and undercounting obviously both occur and both for unavoidable and for bias reasons, and often these cancel each other out and regardless, because the number of cases is by far the greater factor, getting the count "accurate" is not as important as most people think. If millions of people are infected, and a hundred thousand people are claimed dead from the virus, but the deaths were overcounted by double, that would mean that, for example, the death rate was 0.02 instead of 0.01. The overcounting, and the undercounting (as with nursing homes and via state governors who want to look like they did a great job reducing deaths), these factors both go into the number in the numerator, and it's the denominator, that is, the number of cases, that is so vastly greater, that makes the difference in evaluating the real world happenings. UPDATE: At any rate, K****** just emailed: It's obvious some of that overcounting went on. But the "I know someone's sister" ... is all over. "My wife's a Farmers insurance agent and just last night a fellow agent said one of his 'prospects' told him a similar story. Thanks K******, I'm obviously not saying the doc or your friend are going to hell because of this. (People go to hell if they reject Jesus Christ.) But I am admonishing them and ten thousand others by pointing out that regarding God's Ten Commandments, when they're endulging their paranoia, they believe they can reject His command, as maybe the Amplified Bible would put it, "Do not bear false witness against your coroner." They're so sloppy with the retelling of stories, and so eager to have people believe them, that like with the game telephone, only somewhat intentional, each time they or someone else repeats what they've heard or read on social media they have the opportunity to falsely remember/misspeak/personalize the story or add a detail they imagine must be true, in order to make the claim sound more convincing. When it comes to fake news, the left has nothing on the right. After all, they say, never let a crisis go to waste. Thanks K******. Before airing more audio from the first-ever televised predestination and free will debate, Bob Enyart presents the List of COVID Christian Conspiracies as compiled by the pastor of Denver Bible Church. :) And he also presents our nascent COVID Leftist Conspiracies list and our bulleted Understanding the Shutdown without Conspiracies. Then Calvinist pastor Brian Schwertley continues to argue for the false doctrine of Limited Atonement, not recognizing that God the Son Himself IS the atonement, and that because He has infinite value and worth, the atonement by definition cannot be limited. And then the second half of the debate, about God existing "in time", begins with time in heaven, God in time, and the nightmare of the alternative, which would be God always looking upon us a saved and unsaved, as Jesus as resurrected and unresurrected, as Adam as unfallen and fallen, etc. * List of COVID Christian Conspiracies: from the conservative pastor of DBC, after first angering the left with our 25 Ways the Shudown Kills People, now we've angered many on the right, our own natural consituency, with our list of COVID Conspiracies. Countless extreme variations of conspiracy are racing through the web giving the paranoid an adrenaline rush. For example, a nurse practitioner owner of a succesful clinic tells people that China's phase one bioweapon has killed about half-a-million Americans (and countless millions of others around the world) yet the governments of the U.S., Japan, South Korea, etc., are hiding the true death toll. (Why? You'll be better off if you don't ask.) Separately, online videos are claiming that President Trump signed a bill enabling charging with attempted murder anyone who does not wear a mask. (No word on whether the law requires masks while sleeping and showering.) Millions of people have spent decades of their life being reckless with their mental health, indulging their paranoia, and now the consequences are seen everywhere. When it comes to fake news, the left has nothing on the right. After all, they say, never let a crisis go to waste. Thanks K******. In Christ, - Bob EnyartKGOV.com - RealScienceRadio.com - rsr.org * Washington State Interdiction & Bill Gates' Sterilization: Christians would do well to review the case of Typhoid Mary. The current discussion by Christians is much like that of pacifists who have the luxury of being pacifists because they live in a mostly peaceful state. Yet once violent state-sponsored aggression breaks out (like in WWII including when the Japanese kidnapped tens of thousands of Korean and other "comfort women") then their false pacifist teachings are exposed as all-along erroneous and dangerous. Similarly, the false case is easily made that because human beings are sinful and control freaks, we should have anarchy because governments can't be trusted. Likewise for an unprecedented deadly epidemic (which is not COVID-19; rather we have an unprecedented overreaction), regardless of the fact that politicians generally are wicked, there remains authority for government to interdict when there is reasonable evidence that someone is recklessly spreading a deadly pathogen. If Mat Staver apologizes for his May 1 fake news, beyond his "Corrections have been made to this message", I'll start reading his material again, but he's paranoid and spreads paranoia. As the widely-trusted former dean of Liberty University Law School and chairman of Liberty Counsel, his fake news headline “Kansas City, Missouri, officials are now requiring every church to submit a list of members” harmed those unknowingly struggling with paranoia and mental illness. The damage was just as though he had harmed those struggling with pornography by emailing them a dose. Here at BEL we rather dislike being in the position of having to defend, for example, the egregiously evil Bill Gates from the libel that he's creating a vaccine to kill 15% of the world's population. Being himself, along with the rest of the godless left, obsessed with abortion and overpopulation, he points out that healthy and propsperous societies tend to have fewer children and a million Christians think he's admitting that his vaccines are designed to kill people. Really? Right out in the open? Even if such a thing were true, he'd just go ahead and say it? As to to the vaccines he has funded being used to sterlilize millions of women, for certain he has not funded the development of any infectuous disease vaccine being used anywhere in the world, that was designed to unwittingly sterilize people. Bob Enyart takes a rare call from a listener in Hartsel, Colorado, out in the hinterlands. On yesterday's program, Bob mentioned an email from Salida, also in the rural middle of the state, expressing resentment for our 25 Ways the Shutdown Kills People. Now today, Paul from Hartsel calls to discuss Bob's COVID-19 statements that have been contrary to other Christian programs on KLTT, which at 50,000-watts is the most powerful Christian radio station in the country. Also, the guys talk about Paul's brother, a Calvinist pastor and how Calvinists generally have a hard time even just describing God's potter and the clay lesson that he gave to Jeremiah. The opposite of an improved standard of living is an increase in the ways of dying. What makes an economy function is not money but when we do as the Bible commands, and "serve one another." As discussed below, like so much economic calculation, these increases in death often happen "on the margins", to people and in circumstances where events could go one way or another, and a "tipping point" otherwise avoided is reached because of economic stress. So here is BEL's list of ways that economic decline kills people: - Suicide increases (normally, the 10th leading cause of death; 2nd for young adults)- Stress, a major factor in increased disease, depression, and directly, death itself - Starvation as recession could horrifically increase the nine million annual deaths - Unemployment increases death rate by 50% from disease, accidents, etc. - Extended disappointment can lead to depression, then to death - Increase in polluted water and air not tolerated by prosperous societies - Increasing family debt leads to increased stress (see above) - Forego needed medical treatment for known ailments - Forego routine healthcare/early diagnosis (TB to kill a million due to quarantine) - Forego needed vehicle maintenance increasing crashes - Forego recreational exertion and work-related physical exercise - Forego equipment maintenance increasing workplace accidents - Forego healthier foods to eat less nutritiously deteriorating health - Farmers may produce less for various economic reasons - Manufacturers may cut corners producing less safe and satisfactory products - Increased crime including because less money is spent on security - Failed businesses bring enormous stress to owners and employees - Career employment is replaced by poorly paying jobs - Marriages fail leading to depression in adults and children - Raised by a mom alone is the primary indicator of kids ending up on welfare, as criminals, addicts, and early death - Increased loneliness from fewer family visits leading to death by broken heart - Increased marijuana and other drug use - Increased alcohol abuse - Increased abortion - Government leaders who don't understand godly principles of government introduce additional socialist measures which overtime lead to increased societal dysfunction, depression, and death. Finally, for every one person who dies as a consequence of economic recession, many many more people grieve and have an increase in stress, unhappiness, failure, depression, disease, and divorce. Offsetting Factors: Recession consequences that may actually save lives include... - people, friends, families and church members relying more on one another - some social government services being curtailed - more kids liberated from public school as an unintentional return to single-income households gives a parent the opportunity to homeschool - the emotional fulfillment from increased economization - the economic benefit of an increase in preparedness for future hard times - reduced traffic - reduced respiratory illness from temporarily reduced traffic pollution - recognition of our dependence upon and need for Jesus may result not only in more conversions to Christ but in more godly wisdom to light and salt society. Note: For the Ways a Downturn Kills People list, above, we've considered but rejected a decrease in blood donations and an increase in the orphaning of children and in domestic violence. * COVID 19 Deaths Overcounted and Why that Doesn't Matter: See below in the transcript. We've looked at the science and we've been rebutting a few conspiracy theories along the way to hopefully mitigate some misplaced anger. The Hannity Conspiracy Interpretation of China's Flights: One conspiracy we rebutted was the Shaun Hannity interpretation of what China was doing when they permitted international flights to continue. Countless conservatives think that this was part of China's intentional plan to infect the world. Here at RSR we have as strong a record, or greater, of condemning China, including for their own abortion holocaust, as does almost any other conservative or Christian outlet. Yet much of our last program strongly rebutted that air traffic conspiracy interpretation. We documented the dates, and showed that with the whole world on alert for the virus, and it spreading, and President Trump wisely shutting down flights to and from China, yet most of the rest of the world recklessly ignored his approach, and continued flying to China. Yes, they shut down their own domestic travel out of Wuhan. But they weren't forcing other countries to fly their. Each country evaluated their own level of risk. Based even just on the number of planes available in any fleet or nation, no airline or country, including China, could sustain continuing to send flights out of their country unless those same planes were first flying into their country. So the countries that planes were flying into, out of China, were the same countries that continued of their own decision making, and with some recklessness, to fly planes into China. And China's communist tyrant, Xi Jinping, did what tyrants do, in selfishness, incompetence, and hubris, took whatever benefits flew in on the incoming flights, and cared nothing for what harm flew out on the return flights. That's much different than the paranoid belief, generating even more anger, needlessly, than already exists, to claim that China was implementing an intentional plan of infecting the world. Wickedness and recklessness by themselves are not sufficient to convict someone of every suspicion, and God did say, Do not bear false witness against your neighbor. We began our Crawford-COVID series of programs interviewing brilliant scientists, if you missed any, they're archived for you online at rsr.org, to understand the virus and the disease. [rsr.org/michael-behe-covid, rsr.org/kevin-anderson-covid, rsr.org/james-tour-covid.] We heard from audience favorites like molecular biologist Kevin Anderson, and world renowned scientists Michael Behe, and James Tour discussing his nanoprobe device that, like a guided missile, seeks out pathogens, like a bacteria or even a virus, attaches, and drills into them at three million RPMs, three million revolutions per minute, to destroy them! It's stunning how human beings can use the brilliance that God gave us, to learn about His creation, and to some degree, as He encouraged us, to take control over it. Use of Thought Experiments: Now we moved on to what's called the soft sciences of economics, psychology, and as Ludwig von Mises called it, who's the former leader of the Austrian School of economics, praxeology, the study of Human Action, and he used the tool, the thought experiment. The hard sciences make great use of thought experiments. That's how Einstein made his discoveries; we park our space satellites far above Earth in what's called the LaGrange points which were discovered by thought experiments in 1736; Paul Dirac discovered antimatter, and positrons, before they were actually observed, Max Planck the Planck constant, Higgs the Higgs boson, in fact, James Clerk Maxwell, the father of the science of electromagnetic radiation, discovered in 1859, not with a telescope, but by his thoughts, that the rings of Saturn were not, as was supposed, solid nor a continuous liquid, but that they were made up of disconnected particles, a discovery not confirmed by observation until 122 years later by NASA's Voyager 2 mission. The National/Wealthy Family Epidemic Response: We applied von Mises encouragement of using thought experiments to figure out, why now, and why never before, for this extensive economic shut down. And we used an observation made by another Austrian conservative author, Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn in his work, Leftism Revisited, that some leaders have the capacity to view their own citizens as part of their own family. And so, just like a wealthy family would do almost anything in their power, even bankrupting themselves, if they thought a spreading disease was anything like, say Ebola, which killed about one out of every two people who got it. But, suppose this was a highly infectious disease, spreading rapidly. If a successful father thought that a spreading infection would likely kill one of his own children, or more, if a son or daughter happened to catch it, he of course would go to extreme lengths, especially if he had the financial wherewithal, to try to prevent that horror. Then think of nations, and their leaders, and to the time in world history, namely, today, when as compared to the past thousands of years, we have both a better understanding of the spread of pathogens, and we have vast wealth, compared to the past, available to governments. So, this shutdown has been coming at us for a long time. Why now, and never before? Because we can. That's why. How Economic Decline Kills People: The cure might be worse than the disease, and far more people may die from the shut down. Almost like a medically-induced coma, we have a medically-induced, actually, an intentionally, politically-induced, recession. And how bad might it get? The worldwide economy could get bad enough to kill more people than the disease kills, and that could be either with or without all this mitigation. A depression is worse than a recession, long considered a decline in real GDP of more than 10% in one year. GDP, that's gross domestic product; and no, that's not our public school graduating class, that's the value of all goods and services produced. The GDP. Economic forecasters, as Fortune Magazine points out, "are downgrading their predictions almost as fast as they can make them." For example, within just a few weeks, Goldman Sachs downgraded its second quarter GDP estimates from –2%, to –24% to –32%, and that's all within a few weeks. Annualized, that would qualify as a depression, except that our underlying productivity gains, wealth, diversification of the economy, and so on, could prevent anything like what we historically perceive as a depression from hitting us. But they do say, nothing is certain except death and taxes! But even death can be cheated, through Jesus Christ. So maybe the only certainty is that the government is likely to take more from you than it should. Ha! Economic decline, regardless of what you call it, kills people. How do people die from a drop in the standard of living? Well, of course it's called a standard of living, and the opposite of that is dying. Donald Trump unfortunately hasn't found a way to verbalize what he knows to be true, that when the economy faulters, people die. The most I've heard him get out of his mouth is: - suicide, and he mentioned only suicide on a number of occasions; perhaps in the last few days he's expanded on that. While suicide is not nearly the only way people die from an economic downturn, it is terribly serious. Under normal circumstances, suicide is the tenth leading cause of death in America, far higher than traffic fatalities, which doesn't even make the list. 47,000 people die of suicide each year in America, and for young adults, tragically, suicide is the number two cause of death, which is one of the reasons, not the main one, but one of the reasons why we oppose and despise those who seek to decriminalize and normalize suicide. So an increase in suicide, when a business fails, when a father can't figure out how to provide for his family, when a mom sees her children struggling, when a teenager goes further into depression because his life isn't working out how he or she had expected, those deaths are even more insufferable than COVID 19 deaths. I'll give one example, from Thailand. We just had a massive trilobite fossil donated to us here at RSR from a listener in Thailand. well, a Bangkok media outlet has reported that suicides have increased measurably from the lockdown there and they document one example, a man who joined a government protest, a 58-year old taxi driver Nam Jiamsupa, killed himself because he didn't have enough money to pay his next three months taxi lease, $555, and their mental health hotline has gone from 30 calls a month to 600. So Donald Trump is right, of course, suicide is a major result of economic difficulty, but that's only one manner of recession death. Oh, and by the way, what is the top cause of death in the U.S.? It used to be heart disease, at 650,000 a year, with cancer at #2, at 600,000 a year. And here at RSR we've predicted, based on our reporting on and interviews with leaders in the field of targeted antibody treatments, that cancer will drop by 2025 from the second to the fifth cause of death. That's an astounding prediction, and since we made it a couple years ago, it has been heading downward, thankfully. But right now, forget all that, because the #1 cause of death in America, right now, is COVID 19. Yes, COVID deaths have been overcounted, and that's been a problem for decades with many diseases, identifying the correct cause of death, and COVID deaths have been undercounted, as frequently happens also (esp. with home deaths, and as an example, a NY nursing home). That's not a conspiracy, and the two hopefully cancel out, and regardless, that number goes in the numerator of the fraction, and the vastly larger denominator, the number of cases, then helps us decide how deadly a particular infection can be. So, today, at about 2,000 COVID deaths per day, if that was annualized, and if this continued for another year or two, which it could, especially seeing that the virus has experienced 30 point mutations already, and they could make it even far more lethal than the flu-like, or twice-flu like fatality rate that the coronavirus has right now. But at 2k a day, if that became routine, that would be 700,000 deaths per year, but hopefully, we'll have nothing like that. So, an increase in death from an economic downturn, includes from suicide, which could bring it from tenth, as high as above the normal flu and pneumonia deaths of 55,000 per year, and that could disproportionately include children and young people. Then, just like an increase in suicide, there is death from all the other ways that people die, only moreso. One large and lengthy study in Europe has shown that the rate of death increases by 50% for the unemployed as compared to for people who are working. And that includes increases in death rates from virtually all causes, disease, accidents, and so on. People are increasingly unhappy, over a lengthening period of time, and while some have inherent biochemical problems that need psychiatric care, the vast majority need God, and a healthy relationship with Him, becoming increasingly conformed to the image of Jesus Christ, as Paul urges us, becoming more Christ-like, and loving and serving others so much we hardly have time to notice our own twinges of unhappiness. When people can't afford better food, the eat cheaper food. When they can't afford medical care, or the hospitals are otherwise occupied, they forego normal healthcare that could have given an early diagnosis of a treatable disease. When farmers can't afford more productive seeds, and the right amount of irrigation, that use cheaper seeds and don't water their crops enough. When manufactures can't afford to use the best materials, they use cheaper materials. Someone is inclined to commit crime, and he sees corrupt opportunity in a store's reduced security measures. When a man's good business fails, he takes a job that barely sustains his loved ones. And much of this, like virtually all economic calculation, is on the margins. Someone who might not have come down with a disease, but the financial and emotion stress it brings, pushed her over the edge and now she's sick. A business was on the verge of being sustainable, but it fails. A marriage just might have survived, but the added stress results in divorce, and now three kids are growing up with only mom in the household, and that's the number one indicator for the kids eventually to commit crimes, go on welfare, use drugs, and otherwise ruin their lives, and even, die young. And, governmental leaders who don't know right from wrong, and who say things like, America will never be a socialist nation as long as I'm in charge, while handing out thousand dollar checks to everyone, and saddling the next generation with trillions of dollars of debt beyond even Obama deficit spending, and even those measures lead to eventual further downturn, and death. And when a global economy shrinks, short-sighted governments may further increase import tariffs, which primarily is a tax on their own people, again increasing the economic pain. You hit the buyers of Japanese cars with a 10% surcharge, or tariff, and then domestic manufacturers increase the price of their cars by 9%, 100% of which is paid for by the consumer. So the list goes on and on, of how people die from economic decline, and those deaths can be far more than from this SARS-CoV-2 virus, what we call the Wuhan Flu, because of the cover-up and other lies from the Chinese communists. But far more important than all that are the moral questions. And we'll get to them tomorrow. I was supposed to get to them today, but felt that I had to provide my bona fides, showing perhaps newer listeners that here at RSR, we carefully think through the science, and the current events, that we report on, and more importantly, that we do all this with a Christian biblical worldview. So tomorrow, does the government have the right to shut down an economy to fight an epidemic. There's a tremendous amount of anger out there, and it's become a right vs left thing. If Obama had been reigning right now, in office, just like with the H1N1 in 2009 when 60 million Americans were infected, and he shut down nothing, and over 12,000 died, the media couldn't care less and wouldn't have said "boo" against him, nor would they hardly criticize a single thing he did or didn't do if he were here today. And what proof do I have? Look at how they support the Democratic governor of New York, the most hard hit state in the nation, whether he says what the condemn Trump for saying, or does what they condemn Trump for doing, and even when Trump's right and he's wrong. Reality matters not for the fake news blinded by hatred. So because of the left's Trump derangement syndrome, there is an intense fight over whether to reopen, because the Democrats, the media, and millions on the left want to see the economy crash further to hurt Trump's chances of reelection. So the more they support the quarantine, the more conservative Christians are enraged. And from my vantage point, here atop the RSR Towers, overlooking the front range… Hmm. I can't see much careful and principled thinking on either side. The best some conservatives have done is to ask if this is constitutional, and I'm not especially interested in that. I want to know about right and wrong, and there are a hundred other nations that are quarantining. God's not going to other judge nations, or even us, on whether or not they violate, or we uphold, our constitution. He's going to judge us on whether we obey Him or not. Former NJ appeals court judge Andrew Napolitano, a Fox regular until he turned against Trump; we've interviewed him here on the air. He wrote two weeks ago that the only time that a government can interfere with a man's freedom is when he is convicted by a jury of a crime. Oh really? How about when the police arrest a mass murderer, and he's held for months, incarcerated until the trial. You mean Judge Napolitano couldn't think of that? So he provides a perfect example of the kind of sloppy thinking that I have seen conservatives engage in, to keep their anger up. So until tomorrow Lord-willing (if you'd like to share this Crawford-sponsored public service program with a friend, just go online to rsr.org) until tomorrow, this is Bob Enyart for my co-host Fred Williams and Real Science Radio! May God bless you.
(The transcript of today's important program appears just below and you may want to check out next week's Part 2.) Real Science Radio host Bob Enyart takes lessons from the founder of the discipline of praxeology, as it's been called by Ludwig von Mises, the past leader of the Austrian School of Economics. Taking brilliant insights from von Mises, and working them within the context of a biblical Christian worldview, gives stunning insights into why, just now and unlike ever before, the world has shut down to fight a pandemic. Good for the mind. Great for the soul. Today's Resource: God's Principles of Government. Join Bob Enyart as he explores God's Principles of Government. From Against Democracy where we look at the biblical principles related to the idea of majority rule, to a Representative Republic and its similarities with democracy, to a real Alternative to Democracy, to what a Bible-based Constitution actually looks like, after this series, the Scriptures' principles of governance will permeate your thinking like never before! Or your money back. (Really.) * Transcript of Today's Program: As a public service for the COVID-19 pandemic and brought to you by the Crawford family of radio stations, welcoming new RSR listeners in Portland and San Francisco, today we'll present an overview of the coronavirus pandemic. How we got here, where we are at, and what this global experience portends for the future. And we'll rebut a few conspiracy theories and hopefully mitigate some misplaced anger. Real Science Radio has long run as a weekly Bible-based science program out of Denver and during the pandemic its been made available to various Crawford Broadcasting stations. Today, we include the soft science of praxeology, as Ludwig von Mises called it. Von Mises was the recognized leader of what is called the Austrian School, or the more conservative school, of Economics. For RSR to understand what a virus is and how it spreads requires interviewing scientists, like we've done in this series. Audience favorite molecular biologist Kevin Anderson, and world renowned scientists like biochemist Michael Behe and synthetic chemist James Tour and his nanoprobe device, remember that from last week, like a guided missile, seeks out pathogens, attaches and drills into them at three million RPMs, three million revolutions per minute, to destroy them! Yes, many brilliant scientists including those among the most successful in the world, like Dr. James Tour, reject secular origins and trust in Jesus Christ as savior and in the Scriptures as God's Word. But if you want to understand how the world, including our own government, got to this point of near-global extended quarantine, vast economic shut down, and millions of jobs lost, and likely, tens of thousands of failed businesses with employers who will no longer and never again provide jobs for others, these questions fall into the domain, not only of economics, but into the larger realm, of what Von Mises called praxeology, for the study of Human Action. Hence, Mises' masterpiece, which I highly recommend though it was quite a slog to get through it, at a thousand pages, his magnum opus, titled, Human Action. The mass shut down as an early response to a growing worldwide outbreak was bound to happen, eventually. Like a Calvinist who gets a broken leg and, by his theology, believed that this was decreed from eternity past, breaks his leg and says, "Boy, I'm glad that's over with", right, believing that it was unavoidable. Well, about this COVID pandemic, I'm not making any kind of theological argument; not at all. I'm making a praxeological argument, that eventually in human history, a shutdown like this was unavoidably coming, and now that it's here, we can say, once we emerge from it: Glad that's over with. I'll explain why such a shut down was inevitable; and for whatever reasons this started, as we've said on air for, what, two months now, the cure may be worse than the disease. Because, even with the relatively high death toll, we'll lose what, about the same number of people we lost in the Vietnam War, albeit mostly the elderly and those also dying from underlying conditions. Regardless though, and with the world losing a quarter of a million people, eventually, or more, during this, what could be possibly just the first wave of SARS-CoV-2, this coronavirus, the number of people who die from the economic shutdown could potentially dwarf the number of people killed by the disease. Now if that happens, of course that is devastating, but like we'll discuss, a global pandemic-based shutdown has been coming at us for a while and the larger questions, even than whether the cure kills more people than the disease, is What are the principles of morality, justice, and authority, by which governments should make decisions and take actions. Also, from some of the crisis within the crisis, we'll see that we can blame ABC's Shark Tank, including Mark Cuban, Kevin O'Leary Mr. Wonderful, and Daymond John, and the rest, for their vastly overstated claim that an entrepreneur is a fool if, regardless of his reasons, if he does not outsource his production jobs, and move manufacturing overseas. So there's a lot on our plate. As far as economics being a subdiscipline within praxeology, or the study of all human action, which overlaps of course with the field of psychology, we've all heard the observation that movement in the stock market follows greed and fear, and of course, therefore, understanding the financial pages often puts you smack-dab in the middle of psychology. Buy low and sell high. As Warren Buffet said decades ago if you want to make money off the Dow, you need to be fearful when everyone else is greedy and greedy when everyone else is fearful. Back on March 16th, a month ago, the title of our broadcast was, Buy. Buy. Buy. If You Can Buy Stock, Buy! Our live show broadcasts on the most powerful Christian radio station in America, Crawford's AM 670 KLTT out of Denver, and it happens to air at Easter Time, 5 p.m. By then the market is closed, and we always consider those listening via streaming around the country regarding our live program. So that day and over the next five trading days, the market was at its lowest point since the coronavirus hit; the Dow Jones Industrial Average of 30 large U.S. businesses, had been hovering for two months mostly over 29,000 and flirting with 30,000, and then it dropped precipitously to, what, around 20,000, and even below, so almost a 30% pandemic-related drop. We just heard from one of our listeners in Alaska. He said that in listening to the program for decades, he had never heard us give a buy or sell recommendation; we don't do that. And up there in Fairbanks, he had been out of the market. So he transferred a lot of money in, and by the time he bought, within a few days of that program, he couldn't have timed it better and he's ecstatic. So, as praxeologists, the study of human behavior, we Bible-based Christians should be the best around, because you understand an automobile better when you understand how it was made. And you understand people better when you understand how we were made, and if you notice who is following the manufacturers recommended maintenance plan, and who is ignoring it. After all, this very program is brought to you by God, maker of heaven and earth and other fine products! So, I said that this government-imposed shutdown has been coming at us for sometime. Why is that? As we discuss in our Principles of Governance seminars and broadcasts, which are indexed in our archives, when you are trying to understand government behavior, and even, the principles by which governments should operate, use the analogy of a family. Afterall, the dispensation of human government, as many theologians call it, began when God instituted the death penalty, in contrast to what He did before the flood, the global flood, when He prohibited the death penalty. And yet, just as He changed the rules about eating animals, for likewise very deliberate and important reasons, He changed, 180 degrees reversal, His prohibition against execution to mandating it, in Genesis 9, for every convicted murderer. Now this command was given to Noah, as the head of his household, and that established the authority for human government, first through patriarchies, then tribes, then villages, to city states, and their daughter villages, their suburbs, to nations, and finally, even to empires. To simplify the rules of governance, including foreign policy, you can do what Von Mises so often recommended, and use a thought experiment. Consider a group of families that suddenly find themselves living in a frontier where there is no established governmental authority. You can confidently figure out, especially if you have a reasonable biblical understanding, both the way families should behave in such a circumstance, within their own homes, and toward one another, and you can figure out how they are likely to behave, within their own homes, and as they interact with one another. And this will give you tremendous insight into how governments should function, and how they are likely to function. So, the proper extent and the just functions of government authority; how nations should interact with one another and how they will likely interact. So this shutdown approach to a flu-like pandemic has never happened before [that is, the extent of the shutdown, throughout most of the economy, and the nation, and much of the world]. But its been a longtime coming because of the world's growing prosperity. Wealthy nations do things, and face problems, the scope of which mankind has never faced before. Here's a minor example. Wealthy nations are fat nations. Obesity was mostly an American problem at first, at a global level. Not because we were less disciplined, but because tens of millions of us could afford, including many who didn't even have a job, we bought all the junk food, ice cream, and candy we could shove in our face. Then as the rest of the world caught up, guess what happened? They got fat too. Turns out the media was wrong. It wasn't because Americans cared less about our health. It wasn't that Europeans were more health conscious; they're just far less wealthy than we are. The same problem with male delayed adolescence with millions of young men spending a decade or more caring mostly about playing video games, and watching pornography in their parents' basement, and not getting married until their 30s. Prosperity, obsessively violent adrenaline-pumping games, decriminalized sexual entertainment, and now add to all that increasingly decriminalized marijuana, and it's all-but destroying a generation. And many of these problems, including the wondrous yet pernicious problem of widespread wealth, has never before been dealt with on such a vast demographic scale. With a lousy job you can make more than enough money to watch porn, play video games, get high, and eat junk food, until you're 28 years old, and beyond. Bty the way, today is April 20th, that's 4/20, when a few million potheads go out of their way to make sure that they're high today. So please, urge those you know to not smoke pot, and Google: Negative effects of marijuana, or just go to our website, rsr.org/pot where we've worked with some of the world's leading experts on the terrible mental health, physical and moral health problems associated with cannabis. But back to the wealth crisis, and this is all to understand why, and why now, governments have shut down our economies to fight the coronavirus. Vast national wealth also brings with it predictable challenges. Those who say that the masses are not wealthy, relatively speaking, don't remember the past. What would a well-off family do if they thought that a growing epidemic had a good chance of killing one of their kids? I've asked that exact question to a dozen successful parents over the last two months. They've told me what we all know they would say. That they would go to any length they could, if they really thought that there was a good chance that one of their kids might pick up an infection that had a likely chance of killing them. For example, some folks said things like, we'd move to Tonga, you know in the South Pacific, for the duration of the pestilence. We'd hunker down and not leave the house until the plague had passed. We'd send our kids to live with their grandparents in Siberia. Literally. In other words, if you can afford it, you would go to extraordinary lengths, even if you couldn't really afford it, and it might bankrupt you, you would do above and beyond anything you had previously imagined, if you thought one of your kids might die, and you had some chance of saving them. Poorer families, on the other hand, can't even think in such terms. Compare what Bill Gates would do to protect his family, wife Melinda, and his kids, his son Rory, and daughters Jennifer and Phoebe? Yes, he's a pro-abortion, moral monster. He did help much of the world out of poverty, and for that, he deserves his wealth, however he's an all-but-declared enemy of biblical morality. In the 1980s I worked for him in Redmond Washington. He once flamed me, as we'd say back then, with an angry email of two screens worth of text, from Bill Gates; I didn't even read the whole thing. I was busy. And as I've too often mentioned, I had dinner at his home back when he was still a bachelor, before he had even bought much furniture. There wasn't even a table and chairs for us to eat at. It was funny. Anyway, if he had to, he'd buy the whole Hawaiian island of Lanai, which in fact he [temporarily shut down] about a decade after I worked for him, for his wedding. He'd spend billions to buy an entire island if he though it would protect his kids. What would a typical family, say, in Kenya do? If there's a plague coming across Africa and it's headed right for their family. What would a typical family in Kenya do? The answer is, they'd wait for it. There's virtually nothing that they could do. Or that they would think they could do. Epidemiologists for decades have been telling governments and the public how to slow down or even stop the spread of an infectious disease. Until now though, nations didn't have the wealth, or at least, they didn't think they had the wealth, to follow their advice. Go back a century to the Spanish flu, 1918, a quarter of the world's population was infected, about 500 million people, and estimates vary of the death toll, but all recognize it as one of the deadliest events pandemics in history. So let's take the smallest estimate, of about one percent of the world population, so that if you were alive then, if you personally knew 200 people, two of them would be killed by the plague. Careful estimates range up to 5% of the world's population, or one out of every 20 people, dying. So go back a hundred years, go back, to let's say, London, in 1850. What if they had a plague like that. When ]you think of their current deaths in the United Kingdom, they're approaching what, 17,000 deaths. Well London back, 150 years ago, they had a population of what, two and a half million people. If they tried to quarantine, lock down the city, let alone the whole country, for six weeks, two months, three months. Within the first six weeks, half the population of London would be dead. You'd have a million people starve to death. If it were in winter they'd freeze to death. So it is prosperity that has enabled governments to think, at some point, it's been coming for a long time at some point, that they could implement what epidemiologists were telling them for decades now, that they could do to stop people from dying. Now these scientists, they are important and they have valid insights, but they're not inerrant, and they're not praxeologists, right, they're not economists, and so they're not good at estimating how many people will be killed by their cure, for the opposite of an increased standard living, what we call economic decline, that kills people. Instead of living, and living better, they live worse, and they die. And that happens both when wealth increases, especially rapidly, and when, including rapidly, it decreases. Remember that China's scientists, twice, earlier this century, unintentionally allowed the SARS virus to escape from the Chinese Institute of Virology. Now that's not in Wuhan, but in Beijing. But they did a pretty good job, compared to what they did with this coronavirus, of slowing and stopping the spread. It's like the sailor who gets a commendation for securing a loose canon, and then has to walk the plank, because he's the one who let it get loose in the first place. About 800 people did end up dying, but China began by quarantining all 200 staffers from the lab, for weeks in a nearby hotel which they locked down; and they took other measures. Most of the dead were in mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and a few dozen in Singapore and even Canada. So, epidemiologists, some of whom are both helpful, and guilty, do have some valid ideas of how to slow down, or possibly even stop, the spread of a disease. You can expect a wealthy nation to behave like a wealthy family, including in a crisis. Add to that, our governing leaders who have virtually no knowledge, or concern, for what God says about the just function of government. And you can be sure that leaders will not know where the proper boundaries of their authority lie. And you can also be sure that those who are angry at their government, including some in this audience right now, whether they hate the government or are just angry at it, many of them will themselves, have very little knowledge of what God says about how governments should function, or know how to apply valid principles of governance during a pandemic. If we replaced any number of our leaders, with, say, the same number of our Christian leaders, do you think the final death toll would be lower than it will be under the current regime? Or, how about this. Do you think that fewer people would be angry at their decisions, than are currently angered? One rule we have here at Real Science Radio is, don't get angry at people for doing things that we ourselves couldn't do any better. Some governing leaders hate their own people. In addition to abortion, by which they have dismembered and otherwise killed millions of their own youngest boys and girls, in addition to that, some have slaughtered millions of their own, I could put it the way Antonin Scalia put it. They have slaughtered millions of their own walking-around-people. Now he put it that thoughtlessly. A few years back I had the honor of giving a presentation, it's now on YouTube, against theistic evolution, on the beautiful campus in Malibu, of Pepperdine University. And there, former justice Antonin Scalia said, and Christians think that he was pro-life, he said that if Congress passed a law banning abortion, he would strike it down. Why? Because he'd rather people fight over killing the unborn at the local level. Now that's absurd. Anyway, not all leaders hate their own people, or at least, say, their walking-around people. Another Austrian conservative author, Erik von Kuehnelt-Leddihn wrote in his brilliant work, Leftism Revisited. that some leaders actually think of their citizens the same way that a father thinks of his children. By the way, his is another great book, and at a mere 500 pages, it's still quite the slog; boy, these Austrians really know how to write! If you want to watch your nation go broke faster, see what happens when millionaires end up in charge. The Clintons went from donating Bill's underwear, literally, it's on their old tax returns, and taking a deduction for each pair, they went from that, to controlling a two-billion dollar foundation. For like the Bible says about Judas, explicitly, the Bible says that Judas didn't actually care about the poor, but he said he did because he would take money designated for the poor, he'd take the money for himself. That's a perfect summary of socialist politicians. It's something, that very thing in fact, is in the headlines, describing Pope Francis in the Vatican, right now! Taking the money from all over the world, that Catholics put in their poor boxes. I was raised Catholic, I was an altar boy for a couple years. And in the back of every church in the vestibule there's a little box and it says, For the poor. Poor people put their money in it for other poor people. It turns out that the Pope has been spending that very money on his own budget. Wow. So wealthy politicians and those who become wealthy in office, they're especially inclined to have a socialist mindset. Like right now, giving a thousand dollar check to everybody, to a hundred million of us, whether you need it or not. And "printing" money, put printing in quotes, printing trillions of dollars, so we can spread that around also, in a socialist hope of reducing the lethality of the quarantine cure. We don't need a conspiracy to figure out how this started. Mental illness is widespread, including among Christians, with paranoia, the susceptibility to conspiracy theory, being one of the easiest symptoms to diagnose your health issue. Now, regarding the crisis within the crisis, China produces much of our most vital pharmaceuticals, medicines, emergency medical supplies, and even much of the equipment, not to mention so much of everything else. And while I've always loved Shark Tank, I've also been critical of them for a couple reasons. One is that routinely they will skewer an entrepreneur who wants to manufacture in America. To them, a hundred times over, it mattered nothing that they could be weakening America, or taking away jobs that American business owners wanted to give to their neighbors. And so that mindset, profit is great; and greed will blind you to bigger issues, including matters of national security and economic health. Don't get me wrong. The cheaper provider, doing the same job, is almost always the wisest choice, except that, manufacturing your widget, often, is not the entire consideration, and they've always presented it as though it were. I've always openly and aggressively hated the Chinese communist government. Our church has even gone to protest their communist leader a decade ago when he came to Colorado Springs. And I've hated the idea that instead of always condemning them and pushing for the liberation of their 1.4 billion people that Donald Trump was always talking about getting a better "deal" from the Chinese, that is, from their slave labor. And I've always said the opposite whenever Trump would praise their president. So I don't think I'm inclined to err on their behalf. But they did not intentionally infect the world. They're nothing if not deliberate, long-term players. This was a combination of hubris and incompetence. Yes, they shut down Wuhan flights within China, in fact, they shut down the whole Hubei province from travel to the rest of the country. Let's dig in and add some accuracy to this story that's overlooked by the enraged right. And our goal is to think through the conspiracy theory now widely circulating especially among Christians, that China had some kind of plan to infect the world. So, when did they shut down Hubei, including Wuhan air travel within China? Let's see my notes here. That was January 23rd. Now the whole province has about half a dozen airports, and only one international, the Wuhan International Airport. So they were all closed to fights outside of Hubei province. And by the way, the Wuhan airport stayed closed for about ten weeks, until April 8th. So January 23rd till April 8th. In mid January, quite a bit was already going on, publicly, worldwide even, before they closed down those flights. On January 11th, China made their first nationwide announcement of the illness, which means of course that's when it became widely known about, around the world. Its state media reported the illness in Wuhan. Then, and this is easier to recall for Americans, ten days later, on January 21st, we had our first [publicly known] case here. It was, as you'll recall, in the state of Washington. The world was on the lookout for this virus. By then it had just shown up in Japan, South Korea and Thailand. Then two days later, on that January 23rd date, China closed off Wuhan by canceling planes and trains leaving the city. They suspended all public transportation in the city and apparently, throughout the province, buses, subways and even ferries were closed down. By this point, it was known publicly that at least 17 people had died and about 600 were infected, including then also in Taiwan. Then, and this is where the conspiracy theorists get energized, apparently, based on public reports we have of a February 4th announcement, China's Civil Aviation Administration ordered local airlines to keep operating international flights to countries that HAD NOT imposed restrictions on inbound travel to China. So that's been reported including by Reuters news agency, that's an extremely biased leftist source, but one that nonetheless, frequently does report the basic dates and facts correctly. People are angry, including people who have lost jobs, and businesses even, and see no way of financially recovering. They don't need us to pile on and give them a boogeymen to be enraged at. China has plenty of guilt for what we know that they've done to cover up the crisis, mistreat, and even disappear their own doctors, journalists, and experts. So why would China continue flights to the rest of the world, according to conspiracy theorists, and then according to a rational assessment. Well the conspiracy claims that they had an intentional plan to infect the world to give them an economic advantage. That seems absurd on its face. We'll talk about why. The claim continues like this. If the rest of the world is reeling from a pandemic, then China will have an economic advantage because they won't be reeling, except they were infected themselves, for starters, and they've lied about their numbers, which have apparently been much greater than they've publicized. On its face that theory seems absurd and will be believed by people who are inclined to paranoia and looking for an outlet for their fear and their anger, someone to blame, and especially because they think that this extreme accusation against China somehow helps their own favorite politician. Okay then, what's the rational assessment? First, it completely discounts the conspiracy claim, because China, again, is nothing if not a deliberate, long-term player. To gain some kind of supposed short-term economic advantage, they would be sacrificing decades of prosperity, when they've had a hundred million people just barely climbing out of poverty. They'd have to give all that up, and go backwards. For clearly, intentionally spreading a disease to the rest of the world is not something that could be hidden, especially after the Wuhan outbreak had become known worldwide. They would enrage more than a hundred countries, and infect and devastate even their allies, like Iran. They would become a global pariah, which they have become anyway, apart from the conspiracy theories. This was not a biological weapon engineered in a lab. The scientific evidence strongly refutes that claim. And this was not intentionally spread to the world, so they could take some kind of economic advantage. The world would be highly motivated to reduce, some countries cut off, all trade with China. And that trade is exactly what has been bringing them out of 70 years of communism-induced poverty. It is that trade that has built up their military. It is that trade that has enabled them to create the technology to control almost a billion and a half people. And they know that. Trade has been vital for their already struggling economy. For them to hatch this scheme would mean that they were willing to sacrifice decades of increasing prosperity, for, what? For nothing. Because their trade would collapse. Instead, it was what we see in tyrants generally. It was hubris, and incompetence. By the uncontrolled arrogance of the left, especially of communist tyrants, but even of the Nancy Pelosis and Hillary Clintons of the world. They put themselves up on pedestals, as though there were gods. And when you look at their policies, they do seem to think that they are gods, passing legislation that appear to, attempt to defy the very laws of nature itself, and certainly, that would defy human nature. So a communist leader thinks that what he says is law. And that even nature itself will obey him. So they lie about an outbreak as it inexorably explodes to where the whole world knows that they lied. And then in their incompetence and hubris, they hoard medical supplies for themselves violating even their own manufacturing commitments to the world. And they shut down travel within China. But again, in hubris, think, well if countries are still flying here, we're not going to shut down flights back to those countries. That's their decision. [Of course, based even just on the number of planes available in any fleet or nation, no airline or country, including China, could sustain continuing to send flights out of their country unless those same planes were first flying into their country. So the countries that planes were flying into, out of China, were the same countries that continued of their own volition, and with some recklessness, to fly planes into China.] Those countries, they know that there's an outbreak here, and if they're so stupid to fly here, then fine. Whatever business and help they bring along, on those flights, we could use it. And their problems, are their problems. So, we're out of time. We'll finish this on our next RSR COVID show. And until then, to forward this Crawford-sponsored public service program to a friend, just go online to rsr.org. That's r-s-r dot o-r-g. This is part 2 of the audio from our Live Event in March. In 2018 I interviewed 42 architects, archipreneurs and industry thought leaders. Again and again the same themes appeared that I sensed were at the root of many architecture business problems. Over the Christmas period, I spent a lot of time quietly reflecting and re listening to those interviews in order to distill what these industry experts were telling me they had found to often be some of the most challenging aspects of running an architecture business and what they have done to navigate around them. From that study I compiled a list of 7 Business Obstacles that in many cases threaten and prevent otherwise successful and intelligent architecture practices from fulfilling in their mission of delivering impactful and meaningful design work. In this BoA U.K. live event I shared this list and invited a panel of industry leaders and experts to share how they from years of hard won business experience have learnt to successfully navigate around them in order to create game changing businesses. Dr. Bryan Stensaas is a Vietnam veteran, church planter, has an accredited Ph.D. in education, and is a former radio host and college instructor—but most of us know him as a Veteran Missionary to Uganda. We had the privilege of sitting down with Bro Stensaas and speak with him about some of his experiences in the field and what God has taught he and his wife, Cheri, in their 32 years of serving as Missionaries. In This Episode, We Look At: From the Gulf of Tonkin, to the plateau in Uganda, we'll hear the incredible story of how God orchestrated His plan for Bryan Stensaas's life. Bro Stensaas candidly shares mistakes he's made along the way and what he believes today's Missionaries ought to do to prepare for life in the field. His story of how God greatly expanded his reach and multiplied his preaching efforts will inspire you. His financial and deputation advice will surprise you (It surprised us). We will also hear how God used peripheral neuropathy to bring Bro Stensaas back to the States and how He is greatly using him here—far from the tropics of Uganda which has been his home for the last 21 years. What comes to mind when you hear the word "rich?" Maybe an unattainable goal? Other people? A few select? Sin? In the New Testament, people equated wealth with spirituality. The Pharisees were wealthy—the common folk looked up to them spiritually and were impressed with them financially. In This Episode, We Look At: Is God against His people being rich? No… But neither is it His design that all His children would be rich in financial resources. "If you have real character, money will not spoil it. Persons with genuine character can handle adversity and prosperity." S Truett Cathy Wealth that will actually last Riches passing through the hands of eternally minded Christians can do great things for the Kingdom of God. See Matt. 6:20 Yesteryear: J.C. Penney was saved after the Great Depression and the loss of his personal wealth. Soon after, he began giving cheerfully and sacrificially to the cause of Christ and other benevolent pursuits. Cautions Riches can also bring on great destruction in the life of a Christian: comparisons, the desire for more, and love and lordship of riches. Is Capitalism a Christian system? Gov. William Bradford made a poor decision in the early days of what would become the Massachusetts Bay Colony: He believed that devout Christians would all work together equally for "The Greater Good." Collectivism (socialism) failed miserably. Many simply didn’t want to labor to produce food—over 50% died. In This Episode, We Look At: Here are a handful of freedoms granted not only in our founding documents, but in Scripture as well. Freedom: to assemble and of religion—1st Amendment This is often taken for granted. We have freedom in Christ (Romans 8:2) and we have individual freedoms in this great nation. Property rights: 5th Amendment to the Constitution In Acts 4:36-5:1-5, Barnabas "having land, sold it, and gave it". It belonged to Barnabas and he could do as he wished. He chose to sell it and give it. Ananias and Saphira also owned property. Whilst it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Incentive: also demonstrated in the Bible "…endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness" 2 Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, this we commanded you, that if any would not work, neither should he eat. There exists an incentive to work; there is really no ceiling for income/wealth creation. Rule of Law: (rather than the authority of man) "The state cannot grant rights to individuals, since our rights are God-given and hard-wired into us. The role of the state is to protect God-given rights. When the state attempts to overrule God's rule as the Grantor of rights, it is putting itself in the place of God , which is evil. This is one reason why socialism is a failed economic system. It is also the reason why God opposes socialism and advances the foundations on which capitalism is based." –Chad Hovind, Godonomics Today's Resources and Links: Godonomics by Chad Hovind One Thing You Can Do Today to Improve Your Faith and Finances: Remember these wonderful freedoms afforded to us by our God and these Founding Documents. We are interesting creatures when it comes to money. Can you identify with some of these adjectives regarding money? Affluent, Broke, Stressed, Generous, Stingy, Protective, Easygoing, Frivolous, Spendthrift, Content, Discontent, Boastful, Lavish, Conservative, Bitter, Joyful, Jealous, Grateful All of these money attitudes stem from the heart. Scripture supports this conclusion. There are over 2,300 verses in the Bible directed toward money and possessions. That's twice as much as faith and prayer combined—why is that? In This Episode, We Look At: Our hearts are drawn to trust and love money. Psalms 62:10 If riches increase, set not your heart upon them. Matthew 12:34 for of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. When we feel we do not have enough money we worry. When we feel we have enough (or even too much) money, we trust in money rather than God. Proverbs 30:8 Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? Or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of God in vain. There is no money in Heaven We either use money for God's purposes and are rewarded or we use money according to our own purposes and lose rewards. Ecc. 2:11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had wrought, and on the labor that I had labored to do: and behold, all was vanity and vexation of spirit, and there was no profit under the sun. The just shall live by faith. This truth is stated four times in Scripture. We also know that "without faith it is impossible to please God." Do we then demonstrate faithlessness if we accumulate savings and invest? In This Episode, We Look At: In many areas of our lives we tend to lean on faith and ignore action We have a tendency to think that God will take care of us when considering our future financial needs. That is true to an extent; (Matthew 6:33) but, what is our part in effort and labor? Consider the source of your income today It is very likely that you sought the Lord to help you and guide you concerning your present job. An interview was conducted during which you presented yourself and your qualifications. You had to prepare for your job or career with college education or prior work experience. Your ability to work comes from the Lord (Deut. 8:18). What about Pastors and Missionaries in retirement years? We think, "Surely God will provide for their future income because they gave their whole lives to His service." Our human minds look to a reward system in this life. But God's rewards for New Testament believers are in Heaven. There are countless blessings in serving the LORD. We see God do amazing works through changing lives and healing people. None of this excuses full-time servants from the need to plan for their future income through their own savings efforts, Missions boards, or Deacons' planning. How does planning and working for today's income differ from planning and working toward tomorrow's income? We know that our bodies of age, weaken, and are prone to injury and disease. We should plan now, put forth effort now, and save now, in order to have resources to provide an income LATER. Include Them in Family Finances Include them when you review or write the family budget and when you shop or pay bills. Teach Them the Value of Money. King Solomon is known for being the wisest person who ever lived. The fame of his wisdom spread across the known world. That's no small feat considering how slow information travelled without the internet! In 1 Kings 9 and 10 we read that King Solomon had a navy and "shipmen that knew the sea." What comes to your mind when you read, “a navy of ships?” For me, I start hearing “Anchors Aweigh” in my head, along with images of battleships of all sizes. Go Navy! In This Episode, We Look At: Solomon taught reducing risk through diversification This background helps us understand the practical application of Ecclesiastes 11:1-2 "Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days. Give a portion to seven, and also to eight; for thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth." Increase expected growth There are investment categories that have a higher expected rate of return than individual stocks. Diversification in the stock market today Owning investment categories with dissimilar price movements. Hypothetically, when Investment A moves down, Investment B is likely to go up or stay level. Global diversification There are many countries, in addition to the good old United States (about 44 of them), that have free markets and publicly traded companies which produce goods or services. Without a clearly defined personal purpose for investing, enough will never seem to be enough. Without clear goals, the answer to the question, “How much is enough?” will always be, “More.” In This Episode, We Look At: Many get nervous or anxious when they do not know if they are on track to have enough money for their future. It is not God's plan for His children to worry. Phil. 4:6 Be careful for nothing There are those who have more than enough now and for their future, but are still driven to have more. Solomon warned, “He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this also is vanity.” Ecc. 5:10 Most investors have a general idea as to why they want to invest. How much money will that goal require? Knowing the future dollar amount needed (roughly) will help you know how much to invest each month to reach your goal. Begin with the end in mind. Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: Ecc. 7:8 Consider your future required income, then work backwards. Use the 4% rule. Example: Desired income = $40,000/ year. Matthew 25:15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. In This Episode, We Look At: The lord of these servants knew their work ethic very well. We see that their lord distributed to each servant his wealth according to the faithfulness they have previously displayed. We see that he displayed grace by giving a portion to his servant that perhaps had not previously displayed faithfulness while in his presence—yet he gave him an opportunity to be faithful in his absence. God has called all of His children to be faithful stewards in every area that He has entrusted us with. God knows our individual hearts and He knows if we are faithful or unfaithful. He gives to each of us according to our varying levels of faithfulness and trustworthiness. He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much. Luke 16:10 Are we currently faithful with what God has already entrusted to us as opposed to waiting for more before we start honoring Him? The starting place for financial faithfulness… As we acknowledge that everything belongs to the Lord, we need to also acknowledge that the tithe is the Lord’s. The heart that desires to cheerfully honor the Lord with finances will find that there will be more to honor the Lord with. There is that scattereth and yet increaseth. In this episode, we'll join Tim as he teaches one of several sessions in his Faith and Finances Series. In This Episode, We Look At: Why are there so many verses in Scripture on the subject of money? The majority are aimed at our heart. Our actions come from our beliefs. Our beliefs come from our hearts. If we desire to improve our Faith and Finances, we need to address what we believe about money. Who is the true Owner, what does stewardship mean, and, what does stewardship look like in our world today? There are financial promises in God's Word that are contingent upon our faith and action. Understanding our true citizenship As Christians, we are primarily citizens of Heaven. Real treasure is what we lay up in Heaven; through both giving (Matt. 6:20) and in whatsoever we do unto the Lord. "Without a doubt, the single greatest contributor to our inability to see money and possessions in their true light is our persistent failure to see our present lives through the lens of eternity." - Randy Alcorn Today's Resources and Links: Ambassador Baptist Church's Podcast on iTunes Faith and Finances, Eternal Promises for Today's Resources by Tim Rosen One Thing You Can Do Today to Improve Your Faith and Finances: Acknowledge God's true ownership and choose to manage your finances as a Manager of God's resources. Matthew 25:18 But he that had received one went and digged in the earth, and hid his lord’s money. While most of us would hesitate to align our thinking with the unfaithful steward, there are still many hindrances that we allow to keep us from saving and investing for the future. In This Episode, We Look At: Obstacles that keep us from investing: Time Time seems to be the most prominent deterrent. I don’t have spare time to try and learn about investing; there are more important matters that require my full attention. {editor's note from Troy: This was my problem for decades. I'm a smart guy who simply didn't bother to put much thought into personal finance.} Money Many believe they do not have the resources to start investing, or they view the amount they are able to invest as too insignificant to make an impact. That belief can lead to putting off action, resulting in the thought that they will start investing when they are making more money. Misconceptions Some people struggle with the belief that they could actually accumulate a large sum of money for the future. $500,000 or $1,000,000 seems unattainable to them. Another misconception is that investing is an activity through which people lose a lot of money. It’s a dangerous game that only the pros can play. We are comfortable with the “Here and Now” Suddenly we find ourselves with all of these needed bills and very little financial breathing room. One day we wake up and realize we are not twenty anymore, and that we are way behind in this business of saving! We Spend “Beware of little expenses; a small leak will sink a great ship” –Benjamin Franklin Of course we have no problems spending money in areas that bring us pleasure, satisfaction, or areas we deem as important. I want to encourage you to determine to take care of you and your family by planning for your financial future. What Are Your Thoughts? Matthew 25:14 For the kingdom of heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. 15 And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several ability; and straightway took his journey. 16 Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them other five talents. In the parable of the talents we read that the faithful servants doubled their master's money by trading. As we seek to increase the wealth God has entrusted us with today, where should we look? In This Episode, We Look At: Interest rates are very low in recent years and we certainly wouldn't turn the banks seeking to grow our money. With the best savings account interest rates of around 1% and long-term inflation rates averaging 3%; the math is simple. An attempt to grow wealth through bank interest rates will result in the rapid reduction of buying power. The Equities Markets When planning for the future, investing money to increase its future value is not only logical, but almost necessary. Investing certainly provides the potential for incredible growth of our assets. It also opens the door to potential pitfalls, snares, and destruction—mostly from investor behavior. Growth comes from the markets themselves, not from investing gurus or by following suggestions from financial TV shows. Emotions Can Work Against Us Our instincts are to flee pain and pursue pleasure. This is wonderful when dealing with lions, and tigers, and bears (Oh, my!), but harmful when it comes to investing in equities. We expect volatility and endure it–not try to avoid it. When markets move downward and the media highlights the fall, nervous investors are tempted to follow their fear and sell when values are down—thus suffering a loss. Investing in equities (stocks) is a long-term discipline. It's helpful to know that the S&P 500 has a long-term expected rate of return of about 10%. Even with all the downturns in history, it has made up for down years to achieve this average.* *For Educational purposes only. Seek the guidance of a licensed investment advisor prior to investing any of your own money. Past performance is no guarantee of future results. Ah, marriage! It's that moment when two hearts become one and each one instantly understands the other and agree on all matters… Now back to reality. In This Episode, We Look At: We all have our individual beliefs Destructive Beliefs lead to: Stress, shame, guilt, fear, pain, selfishness, worry, doubt, suffering; potential sins such as covetousness, greed and idolatry. Healthy Beliefs lead to: Love, joy, peace, energy, passion, fun, accomplishments Paying the personal price There is a personal price we pay when we do not identify and resolve conflicting beliefs about money. These include: Income, savings, giving, helping others, confidence, satisfaction, relationships, communication, personal happiness, health, well-being Replace the destructive belief with a true, healthy belief Example: I could replace a destructive belief of “There's no point in having a savings; something always comes up." Before Christ ascended into Heaven, He used parables to teach and prepare us for His departure from earth. In Luke 19 verse 12's parable, the nobleman (representing Christ) tells his servants, "Occupy till I come", as he is about to depart. What is occupying in the 21st century defined for us? In This Episode, We Look At: Beginning with the end in mind: In both parables of the faithful stewards (Luke 19 and Matthew 25), they were all required to give an account of their stewardship upon their master's return. They were either rewarded for their faithfulness or lost what they were entrusted with because of their unfaithfulness. Redeeming the Time, for the days are evil: Time is a valuable and finite resource. We each have a fixed amount. How will we steward the time gifted to us? Walk in the Spirit. Then we will be led by the Spirit to do God's will–not ours. What is in Your Hand? What have we been entrusted with, to Occupy with, until the Lord returns? The gospel Your calling Your testimony Your family Spiritual gifts, abilities (teaching, compassion, discernment) Resources (monetary and other physical) Today's Resources: 2 Peter 3:10-11 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up. 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness. Ephesians 5: 14-16 Wherefore he saith, lAwake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. 15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s." 1 Cor. 6:19-20 Scripture teaches us that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Ghost and that our bodies belong to God. His Word says that we are to glorify Him in our body and in our spirit. In This Episode We Look At: Are we taking care of the temple? Are we doing our part to attain and/or maintain health so that we can better serve the Lord? What kind of rationalizations do we tell ourselves when we consume food that should not enter our bodies? As Christians, we are not exempt to the consequences of neglecting our health. Our Actions are going to come from our closely-held beliefs If we believe that we can eat unhealthily "a little bit here, a little bit there"–we will reap the consequences. This time of year is crowded with lists, ambitions, goals, and resolutions. I’m a huge advocate for written goals. I’ve also witnessed far too many individuals abandoning their New Year's resolutions and commitments simply from being overwhelmed in the enormity of new tasks to tackle. In This Episode We Look At: Financial goals are great to have and we should have them. They need to be specific and measurable; we can't strive for "I want to better with my money this year." I advise against too many financials goals for one period - you are more likely to get frustrated and quit when attempting to tackle "7 new ways to handle your money". The One activity that can impact your entire financial picture: Have a clear picture of where every dollar is going. Write it out or print it out. Have a clear listing of where all your dollars are going. This one activity is very eye-opening and will lead you to the starting point of taking control over your money versus your money controlling you. A goal to be debt-free can be attained when you map your "outflow" of dollars and intentionally re-direct money toward eliminating debt. Today's Resources and Links: The ONE Thing, by Gary Keller. Psalm 112:5-7 A good man sheweth favour, and lendeth: He will guide his affairs with kdiscretion. Surely he shall not be moved for ever: The righteous shall be in everlasting remembrance. He shall not be afraid of evil tidings: His heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord. One Thing You Can Do Today to Improve Your Faith and Finances: Review your bank statements and list the total dollars that are being allocated to variable expenses such as: shopping, entertainment, dining out, and personal care. Identify amounts that can be reduced in these areas then re-allocate those dollars to more important areas such as: savings, giving, debt-reduction. What Are Your Thoughts? Sleep… Who doesn't enjoy a good night's sleep? Research shows us that many people do not. But, what does this have to do with Finances? It has a lot to do with stewardship. The lack of sleep can definitely impact your stewardship. In This Episode We Look At: The adverse effects of poor sleep habits on our health. Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.—Psalm 127:1–2 We discuss real-world health crises due to sleep deprivation; it's more common than you may think. God is the Provider of sleep; Psalm 4:8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: For thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety. Troy and I share practical methods you can use to help improve the quality and quantity of your sleep. Sleep is a reward for "…he who labors." The Christmas Season is upon us and is a time to celebrate the birth of our Savior. When it comes to buying gifts for loved ones, even the well-intended can find themselves succumbing to the pressure to go beyond their means in the purchasing of Christmas presents for others. Is there a practical and God-honoring approach to buying presents? We submit that there is. In This Episode We Look At: Honoring the Lord by: 1. Carefully considering the financial resources we have. 2. Knowing how much we can comfortably spend on gifts. (Luke 14:28) 3. Talking and praying together about a budget; then asking for God’s guidance in staying mindful of the reason we celebrate Christmas. Looking for ways of being creatively frugal. Why is it that so many Christians live without financial peace? Peace may often seem to be just beyond arms' reach if you find yourself asking the following questions: Do I make enough money? Why doesn't my money seem to stretch far enough? Am I burdened with too many bills? Does it seem that misfortune only happens to only me? In This Episode We Look At: Discontentment–we may believe the word means "not content." The Hebrew word mãr (discontentment) actually means: bitter, chafed, great bitterness, angry. It's so easy to be discontent. We live in a culture whose recipe for happiness is "More!" The Elusive Key: Gratitude The phrase "give thanks" or "giving thanks" appears 98 times Scripture. "In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you." I Thes. 5:18 CONTENTMENT: Internal satisfaction which does not demand changes in external circumstances Paul taught that he learned to be content: Not that I speak in respect of want: for I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content. Black Friday falls on November 25 this year. This shopping tradition is so named to reflect the day retailers become profitable the day after shoppers eat a bunch of turkey. In This Episode We Look At: A battle plan to divide and conquer on Black Friday: Make a list (check it twice) for those you will buy presents for. Don't let family pressure or comparisons cause you to spend more on anyone than you can afford Make a rough list of gift ideas for each recipient Without this focus, you are more likely to overspend Determine the maximum amount of money (cash/debit) you will spend on Christmas presents. Resolve beforehand not to exceed that amount. Remember that going over your budget may lead to the inability to pay other bills, creating, or adding to DEBT. Utilize online services to save time, get lower prices, and find free shipping. US News and World Report last year posted "The 7 Best Websites to Find Black Friday Deals". We list them below quoted from that article. Today's Resources and Links: TheBlackFriday.com for a comprehensive database of Black Friday sales from major department stores, retailers and specialty stores. October is harvest time here in the United States. As an alternative to Halloween, many of our churches plan Harvest Festivals for family fun. There are three seasonal conditions of the harvest: when the crop is green (not ripe), when it is white (ideal for harvesting), and when it rots. Jesus said, in John 4:35, Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. In This Episode We Look At: Today is the day to reach the lost What holds us back from having an urgency to reach the Lost? A failure to consider their eternal condition/fate The temporal outlook Using our finances to impact eternity The Tithe–God uses the tithe for many things: Supporting the Pastor who dedicates his life to study, preaching the Word, reaching the Lost, and disciplining new believers. Meeting the financial needs of the church; property, utilities, benevolence, and outreach. Supporting missionaries–financial resources are needed in order to bring the gospel to all nations. We can also buy Bibles and gospel tracts. The Gideons are a good example (hotel rooms, graduation, military). Souls have been saved through finding a Bible in a hotel room. We can send money to a Bible-translating ministry; who will print and distribute The Bible in other languages. Using our time to reach the lost What if you carried gospel tracts each day and determined not to go home until you've handed out at least one tract? Dr. Sisk is the President/General Director Emeritus of BIMI and joined Lancaster Baptist Church as the chairman of the missions department of West Coast Baptist College in 2003. He has preached at over 1,700 Missions Conferences in over 60 countries. Dr. Sisk and his wife, Virginia, travel to churches around the world to encourage and train missionaries. In This Episode We Look At: How Dr. Sisk heard God's clear calling into ministry in 1954. Finding a balance in managing time in our lives is often a daunting task. Earning a living requires a good number of hours in our day, including a commute for some. We should be getting about 7-9 hours of sleep We need to have quality time with our families. We have errands to run, bills to pay, and the pursuit of some form of exercise or sports. We would also like to enjoy some vacation time. Sometimes it can feel overwhelming trying to "squeeze it all in". In This Episode We Look At: Identifying three time frames to plan for: past, present, and future. Having an understanding of these time frames allows you to strike a financial balance. Without a plan, many will find themselves out of balance. A few biblical examples are: The Prodigal Son–Luke 15 12:13 The Rich Fool–Luke 12:19-20 The Unjust Steward–Luke 16:2-5 We can and should strike a balance. It is possible to pay down yesterday's debts, save for today's expenses, and invest for the future. Identify your disposable income (income minus expenses). Divide that sum across the two or three that apply to you. Faithfully contribute to each and increase contributions often (at least annually). Today's Resources and Links: Tim's Blog series on "Christians Conquering Credit" One Thing You Can Do Today to Improve Your Faith and Finances: Divide your financial efforts across two or three applicable time frames. Many of us start out our adult lives in financial reactive mode. Needing their own place to live, many young adults will naturally rent a place, bringing with it a slew of new bills: electricity, gas, water, internet, groceries. It is easy to understand how we can get to the point where it feels like we are working just to pay bills. For many it may feel as if money controls us, instead of us controlling our money. The good news is that we can turn this around. We can get to the position of controlling money matters, rather than letting money matters control us. In This Episode We Look At: Two Financial Muscles to Train: The Proactive Muscle The First Step: Assess You need a clear picture of your current financial system. [fitness illustration: What do beginners need to do?"] Everyone has a financial system; although many of us are uncertain as to what it really looks like. Write out a list of your monthly totals for everything. The second Step: Choose to reduce/eliminate The wonderful news is that as adults, we have the power to choose our path. The majority of the time we make a conscious decision to take on bills and obligations - they are rarely thrust upon us. The Building Muscle By flexing the Proactive muscle, you've recaptured monthly sums that can now work for you in building financial health. What can an extra $100 or $300 a month do for you? Debt Elimination–an extra $100 or $300 a month can be the difference between paying off your consumer debt in months versus 11 to 20 years! Savings–Those recaptured dollars can quickly build the 3-6 months living expenses fund that you absolutely need. Giving–Perhaps it's been on your heart to give more to the work of the Lord, but the burdens of bills have prevented you. $100-$300/month can have a great impact on eternity. Investing–Consistent, monthly investing of even a modest sum can result in an amazing accumulation of wealth for your future. And in many cases, it's not too late if you haven't started. $300 invested monthly at an average of 8% growth amounts to approximately $275,000 in 25 years. Our lives are driven by habits. We may have healthy habits or we may have negative and destructive habits. What you do is habit and what you do not do is a habit. In This Episode We Look At: Identifying your own money habits What is the first financial transaction you make on payday? Are you addicted to receiving those Amazon boxes on your doorstep? Not saving or investing–is a habit. Many habits cannot be eliminated, but they can be changed Establish an "anchor" habit. One habit that creates other supportive habits. An example would be the habit of logging everything that you eat to develop the habit of avoiding M&M's and other sweets; because it is not motivating to report that you ate a bag of M&M's. A financial anchor habit for the Christian could be honoring the Lord first with your paycheck. This strengthens your dependence upon God and causes you to consider how you spend the remaining income. This can develop into other supporting habits like budgeting and adding to savings. Today's Resources and Links: The Power of Habits by Charles Duhigg [affiliate link] One Thing You Can Do Today to Improve Your Financial World: Identify just one money habit that should be replaced with a healthier habit and make that one change. An example could be the habit of over-spending when shopping. The replacement habit would be to bring only the cash budgeted for grocery shopping. Not only will you not go over budget, it is possible that you may spend less as it is emotionally harder to spend cash than swipe a card. Bonus Idea: Create the habit of carrying Gospel tracks with you and be prepared to feed a hungry person. Be a blessing by giving them food and a gospel track in Jesus' name. What Are Your Thoughts? If you have a question or comment about today's topic, we invite you to share your thoughts.
We love sweets and deserts just as much as the next guy, but even common sense says that that one's diet shouldn't be mostly Snickers and ice cream. Wanting to be faithful stewards in finances, we dive into a discussion of the cost of unhealthy eating versus the cost of healthy eating. In This Episode We Look At: The cost of junk food How much of our hard-earned income goes to purchasing food with little or no nutritional value? The personal and national cost of obesity Poor food choices create many unneeded costs: over-the-counter medications, prescriptions, doctor visit co-pays, and medical treatments. The personal and national cost of treating diabetes In addition to out-of-pocket expenses, loss of wages due to diabetes can be devastating. Also consider the personal and emotional price of missing important life events due to illness or premature death. The savings created by eating responsibly, and practical tips for identifying delicious and nutritious foods It's amazing what happens when we start eating highly nutritious foods instead of empty- calorie foods; our energy increases and we do not have the need to eat as much as before. There are some things in this life that we desire more than others. People often desire such things as attention, fame, wealth and the accumulation of possessions. Those all have a common factor: we can physically see them. I submit that Christians tend to overlook the most valuable riches–the ones that are normally not seen or felt. How often do we focus on fleeting riches, when all along we have Christ's power within us to live boldly and victoriously for Him. In This Episode We Look At: The riches of Christ's power within us "And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power." Eph 1:19 The Riches of Redemption We were once condemned while still living and the wrath of God abode on us. We were children of the Devil. Children love to be rewarded with treats or candy for learning Bible verses. Teens love to be rewarded with cash or privileges like driving Dad's car. Adults love being rewarded with bonuses from work, gifts, or even a trip to somewhere beautiful! Who doesn’t love rewards? In This Episode We Look At: God is the creator of the reward system. He wants us to live and strive for eternal rewards. Sometimes these are physical rewards, and sometimes they are privileges. Heaven is not a reward; it is a gift (Eph. 2:8-9). There are Temporal Rewards: But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matt. 6:33 The Lord will not suffer the soul of the righteous to famish: but he casteth away the substance of the wicked. Proverbs 10:3 But heavenly rewards are forever. "Is it OK to play the lottery?" "Can Christians play the lottery?" "Is playing the lottery a sin?" These are common questions when considering buying one of those tickets or "Scratchers." Sometimes entertaining the thought of just how much good you can do with the winnings: build churches, feed the poor, send missionaries—almost justifies the act. What does Scripture say? While we do not find the words "Lottery" or "Scratchers" in the Bible; let's consider the principles that apply in an effort to guide us in this matter. In This Episode We Look At: The desire that drives one to play the lottery. Often the lottery is looked at as a potential way out of financial woes; indicating someone is discontent with their current finances. Jesus warns of covetousness in Luke 12:15, "Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth." It is diligent and wise labor that brings financial profit. Proverbs 14:23 "In all labor there is profit: but the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury." Proverbs 13:11 "Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase." The warnings of wealth. They that desire to be rich, "…fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
