Why you don't need forgiveness, or even understanding, to move on — you need power. We're sold a lie: that closure comes from calm conversations, mutual healing, and tied-up endings. But the truth is, most endings are jagged. Messy. Silent. In this episode of Gentlemanly, I dismantle the myth of closure — and show you what actually sets a man free.

Someone asked, “What do you do for cardio man, what's the secret there?” . It's insanely common to be asked the secret, when in reality there is none. This episode is a reality check for those that are constantly struggling, and may not realize why.1- Your eating patterns are horribleThis is most peoples issue. Some of them know it, but some people may not even be fully aware. You constantly over eat, you drink too much, you snack too often, your protein is too low, etc.2- You have the mindset that there's some sort of secret and are always looking for itThis leaves you chasing the next big thing, wasting time money etc.3- Just not consistent enoughOne week off, one week on. 5 days on, 2 days off, etc4- Allowing your circle to hold you backYou're the average of the 5 people you spend time withIt's possible you get great momentum, build up, then your circle just pulls you back in.Crabs in the bucket analogy5- you're not serious and don't want it bad enoughThanks for listening! I saw her standin' on her front lawnJust a twirlin' her batonMe and her went for a ride, sirAnd ten innocent people died From the town of Lincoln, Nebraska With a sawed off .410 on my lapThrough to the badlands of WyomingI killed everything in my path I can't say that I'm sorryFor the things that we doneAt least for a little while, sirMe and her we had us some fun Now the jury brought in a guilty verdictAnd the judge he sentenced me to deathMidnight in the prison storeroomWith leather straps across my chest Sheriff, when the man pulls that switch, sirAnd snaps my poor head backYou make sure my pretty babyIs sittin' right there on my lap They declared me unfit to liveSaid into that great void my soul'd be hurledThey want to know why I did what I didSir, I guess there's just a meanness in this world Those are the lyrics of the song, “Nebraska,” written by Bruce Springsteen in 1982 immortalizing the killing spree of Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate in Lincoln, Nebraska and nearby Wyoming in 1958. Were Charlie and Caril Ann a new breed of Bonnie and Clyde? Was 14-year-old Caril Ann, a willing and equal participant in 10 ruthless and gruesome murders, or was she a hostage? Books, movies, and endless documentaries have tried to answer that question. Harry N. Maclean has an “inside track” on the story having grown up at the time in Lincoln contemporaneously with Starkweather and Fugate. Today on MURDER MOST FOUL, Mr. Maclean shares his recollection of the period and what it was like to return to Lincoln to research his book, “STARKWEATHER: The Untold Story of the Killing Spree that Changed America.”

Egypt has been coming under “conflicting pressures” as the war in Gaza unfolds, both from Israel, the US, the EU, Hamas, and its public, all while looking at a potential economic crisis at home, leading to a difficult balancing act for Egypt. The recent visit by CIA Director William Burns to Egypt and Congress's “exceptionally fast” confirmation of Washington's new ambassador to Egypt underscore this importance. Sean Mathews joins Thanos Davelis to discuss the tightrope Egypt's President Sisi is walking amid the war in Gaza, and look at the increasingly pivotal role Cairo is playing.Sean Mathews is a journalist for Middle East Eye based in Greece and the wider region writing about business, security and politics. After some time on the sidelines, Co-Portfolio Manager Gareth Brown is back in the hot seat, joining CIO Steve Johnson for the latest episode of Stocks Neat as they delve into lessons from the recent Berkshire Hathaway meeting. They reflect on the meeting's evolution over decades, how size has impacted investment decisions and the increasing conservatism in Berkshire Hathaway's investment strategy.Additionally, Steve and Gareth revisit a topic previously explored at the beginning of the year - the underperformance of small-cap stocks. They examine the current valuation differential between small and large-cap stocks, with relative valuations for US small caps at their lowest levels on record. They shed light on what this means for investors and discuss the potential for a change in sentiment towards small-cap stocks as we enter, and ultimately emerge from, any recession.According to recent research from Global Alpha Capital Management, small caps tend to underperform going into a recession. But that underperformance typically stops right around the onset of a recession. From that recessionary onset, small caps have outperformed large caps over the following 3-4 years in all 6 US recessions for which the company had data. Pour yourself a glass of whisky and join Steve and Gareth as they explore these topics while sipping on a glass of Super Nikka Japanese Whisky.Show Notes:Stocks Neat episode on small caps - The contrarian case for small-caps in 2023Steve's recent Livewire article - Why a recession might be needed for small caps to workGlobal Alpha article - Small cap is backYou can also find us on:Twitter - @ForagerFundsFacebook - Forager Funds Management LinkedIn - Forager Funds ManagementInstagram - Forager_FundsFor regular videos, investment insights, and fund updates, visit www.foragerfunds.com.

The Common Good podcast is a conversation about the significance of place, eliminating economic isolation and the structure of belonging. This is the fifth episode in a series of six episodes focusing on the six conversations from Peter Block's work. Beginning with invitation, possibility, ownership and dissent, we now turn to the commitment conversation. The final conversation for the next episode is the gifts conversation. These conversations are designed to occur in small groups, seeking to produce transformation in communities. You can find more about the conversations in Peter's book, Community: Structure of Belonging, and from these videos on Peter's website. The recited poem was written by guest host, Devin Bustin:39 miles into your roadYou woke in a dark woodThe whole way was wholly lostShadow the noonday sunFurther into every fearYou can't go backYou can't stay hereNoises you can't nameSong without a shapeIf you find a pathThen it's not your pathBlind to all lightExcept the sparkFlicker behind the frightJust step and let it leap to flameAnd whirl at the weakest waveFurther into every fearYou can't go backGod knows what's hereNotice how the groundWants to pull you downFire in its coreFire in your coreLet it light your songBrittle but your ownEverything will changeEvery time you change This episode was guest hosted by Devin Bustin. Devin Bustin is a writer and teacher who lives in Loveland, Ohio. Growing up, Devin attended well over a dozen schools across Canada and the United States. This gave him a longing to know specific places, to connect with openness, and to create belonging. Raised Pentecostal, Devin wrestles with the faith he inherited, often through fiction, essays, and poetry. He is often working on a song, and his emergent work can be found at devinbustin.com. The church is God's design for His people, and it also can be a messed up place. It's no secret that many seek out large churches for the chance to be anonymous, which is the choice to be surrounded by community and yet removed from it. In small churches though, there's no hiding. I believe this is God's plan - to be seen and to be in community. But what happens when that community is full of faulty humans? When it's not a safe place? When people are hurt? In fact, why in the world would the Almighty God choose to be represented by a community of messed up people? Let's talk about how this imperfectly plays out. What do we do when the church fails us or when we fail the church? I've had plenty of reasons to leave the church, and I'm sure you do too.If you're tuning in to hear our typical awesome small church strategies and creative ideas, you have my blessing to skip this episode and choose another! This episode is less about the doing and more about the imperfect humans being utilized in the process. Tune into this episode if … You're curious what happened when a very active pastor's wife stopped going to churchYou don't understand how people who once loved the church leave and never come backYou're carrying around some church hurt of your own and you don't know what to do with You want to know how to better support others who are strugglingCheck out The Small Church Pastors' Wives Conference >> https://smallchurchsummits.com/pw2022/Rate, Review, & Follow on Apple Podcasts"I love Laurie and The Small Church Ministry Podcast!!"

1 Peter 2Set AsideDo you realize how kind the Lord has been to you? If so, then put away your impatience with your wife and kids, stop being lazy about your spiritual life, turn off the secret stuff. Grow up into the fullness of your salvation. Come to Jesus again and begin afresh where you are! 1 Peter 2:2 paraphraseLike you and me, Peter came to grips with being stalled in his faith. On the outside, he still talked the talk, but without the fire -- his faith was shallow.Peter writes to people who have stalled or drifted and have lost the fire. He writes to inspire us to remember what is true about you and about God.We can always come backYou see, Jesus' law of love reaches where you are now. You can begin again again. No questions asked – well, other than the same three questions Jesus asked Peter in John 21:15-17 - Do you love Me?Regardless of Peter's behavior, he was a son of God. Same with you and me. Like the prodigal in Luke 15, we are forever His son. He welcomes us back without condemnation. The Apostle Paul piles on to confirms it: “Therefore there is now no condemnation at all for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Romans 8:1 NASBWe are God's chosenPeter reminds you and me that we have been chosen by God Himself - you are priests of the King, you are holy and pure, you are God's very own. 1 Peter 2:9a TLBFriend, sit with this.We are God's chosen…and, we are set aside, not ordinary, but set aside as God's special kids so that we can show others how God called us out of the darkness and into His wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9b TLBWe are visitors hereSpiritual amnesia, social media, and our culture fight to frame our view of what's true. We seem to think our street address or our job description defines our citizenship. Not so.Our citizenship is in the Kingdom of God – not this world. We are merely passing through. Our real home is out of this world. So what does this all mean?Your heart is hungry for the fire to return – your heart to beat with His heart; to live this one time on the planet with integrity. The heart of God sees where you are. His love is calling you home.Tell God right out loud, “I'm coming back to You God!” Then take a tiny step of faith by telling your spouse, a friend -- heck, email or call me!Follow this up by getting your Bible out and slowly reading Matthew 5-7 for the next few weeks.Get yourself and your family back to going to church regularly. You are not alone.Jesus personally carried the load of our sins in His own body when He died on the cross so that we can be finished with sin and have a good life from now on. For His wounds have healed ours! Like sheep, you wandered away from God, but now you have returned to your Shepherd, the Guardian of your souls who keeps you safe from all attacks. 1 Peter 2:24-25 paraphrasePrayGod, sometimes I feel like You've forgotten me. Or when I act out it's as though I've forgotten You. I don't feel “set aside” as one of Your chosen. So, going forward, help me build my life, my relationships, dreams and goals on the truth of Jesus' way of love. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
As if PCOS isn't enough to manage in and of itself, many people with PCOS tend to be more prone to autoimmune conditions (like thyroid issues or endometriosis) — which come with a whole raft of frustrating symptoms as well.Quite often when you're dealing with a chronic condition (or multiple), you find yourself thinking “ugh… why me?”. It feels like your body just hates you and you can't win. When you make a change something else crops up and it feels like a never ending cycle of trying things — sometimes they work but then they stop working after a while and you wonder how you'll ever get on top of it all. Talk about playing ‘whack-a-mole' with your symptoms! But as much as it feels like it sometimes, you're not actually alone. I would say the majority of my patients don't just come in with PCOS alone (even if initially that's all they know about). Many have another condition alongside their PCOS that they know about or find out about through testing and investigation we get them to push for via The PCOS Protocol — often it's things like coeliac, hashimoto's thyroiditis, hypothyroidism, POTS, endometriosis or adenomyosis (or a combo of a couple of these), and there is often some overlap between symptoms.Initially it may seem overwhelming, like you have to do 3x the work to get on top of these conditions alongside your PCOS but often when we work on that PCOS root cause, with a couple of slight additional tweaks, we can actually make some massive strides in improving a range of symptoms. On this episode of the podcast, we speak to Siobhan, who has not only been dealing with PCOS but has also been diagnosed with endometriosis and hashimoto's thyroiditis. While she got all of these diagnoses in the past 3 years, she's been dealing with the constellation of symptoms for all of these for many years prior. Awful jawline acne, hirsutism, hangry attacks, always thinking about food, irregular cycles, extreme fatigue, PMS, pelvic pain, digestive issues. All things that fall into the symptoms that fit into one of or multiple of the profiles of someone who has PCOS, endo or hashimoto's.As someone who considers herself quite highly strung, Siobhan could easily have found herself being overwhelmed with all of the potential changes she may have to make. But what she found was key for her was understanding that root cause, understanding WHY she's making the changes she's making, focusing on only those ‘high impact changes' and starting small. Quite often we overwhelm ourselves with a million changes that we've stitched together but honestly, so much of it is a waste of our energy. When we focus on a few key changes and doing those consistently with an 80/20 approach, we do FAR better than when we try to do a million changes perfectly all the time. F U diet culture for making us think we have to do everything all the time and do it perfectly to get anywhere!!!In this episode, Siobhan and I talk about her health journey — covering all things PCOS, endometriosis, thyroid conditions and the practical tips she has after more than a year of working on these conditions. We also delve deep into the habit changes that really made a difference in her being able to stick to this new lifestyle. This episode is for you if:You struggle with androgen symptoms like acne and hirsutismBirth control has helped your symptoms but now it's making them worseYou think you might have a thyroid conditionYou gain weight really easily even if you're living a healthy lifestyle and eating in a deficitYou have a very all or nothing approach to changing your lifestyleYou've lost your period and you're not sure how to get it backYou think you might have or know you have insulin resistance as [part of] your root causeYou'r
Inside Public Procurement: Heroic Stories from the Frontlines
What does 25 years in procurement teach you? Maybe the better question is, what doesn't it?Just ask Carrie Roberts, Director of Procurement at Atlanta Public Schools. With more than two decades in purchasing-related roles, she's guided agencies through major transformation, earned multiple procurement certifications, and achieved national recognition from her peers. While it may be true, as Carrie says, that “little children don't dress up as purchasing agents for Halloween,” it's safe to say she's carved out an impressive career.Through it all, she's seen the profession evolve, processes change, and public purchasing come into its own. In this episode, she sits down with Bonfire CEO Omar Salaymeh to discuss the past, present and future of procurement, including:Learning the ropes with some of the country's strictest procurement lawsThe trouble with being “the department of no” and how to get a seat at the tableGenerational shifts and the evolution of procurement as a professionNavigating the eProcurement learning curve and why she'll never go backYou can find this interview, and many more, by subscribing to Inside Public Procurement on Apple Podcasts, on Spotify, or gobonfire.com/podcast.Listening on a desktop and can't see the links? Marianne was bored at work so she quickly went to Google to look up small business ideas for women. You see Marianne knew fully well that she was made for so much more than a corporate job. Ever since she was in Elementary school Marianne dreamt of running her own business. The biggest problem that she faced is not knowing what kind of business to start. Over 50 years ago there were not many options when it came to starting a low-cost business. However, with the invention of the Internet, there are so many options available in a variety of categories. If you are like Marianne let me know if any of these sound familiar. You are constantly bombarded with amazing ideas every weekIt would be nice if you had a business partner to get started with youA business coach to show you the way is one thing you craveThe inability to take action is the one thing holding you backYou have $10,000 or less available to start a business If only there was a way to find a resource that acts as a bridge to help you on your business journey. In this post, you'll find an amazing list of business ideas that you can use to get started right away. You'll also learn what you need to do to find your first paying customer or client. Do You Need a Business Plan? For many years I was led to believe that my attempts at starting and running a business failed because I didn't have a business plan. The folks at Dragon's Den, Shark Tank and The Profit will cringe when they read my next sentence. You actually don't need a business plan to start a business. There, I said it. Haha! This is especially true if you are not quite sure what exactly you want to do. It is also true if you are not looking for outside investors or a loan to get started. The truth is that you can start working with clients right away if you have a system in place. If you are offering software as a service like Todoist or ClickUp then you would need a business plan. So, depending on your business model and the funding required to get the business off the ground you may need a business plan. Maybe you just want to be super organised and put everything down in writing. I have a blog business plan resource that you can use to do just that. How to Fund Your Business Depending on where you live in the world, there are several ways to get funding for your business idea. Funding for your business also depends on the type of business you want to start. Here are some questions you'll need to consider. What's your business model? How do you plan to get your first 5 customers?Who will you be selling to? (B2B, B2C)What equipment is needed to run your business?Where will you conduct your business? (online or offline)How will you process transactions? What does the customer experience look like? A person running an e-commerce shop will need a different set of business tools compared to a coach or consultant. Spend some time carefully considering the type of business you want to run in order to figure out the funding. If you have no idea what you need to get started then there may be ways that I can help. This 5-day start your business challenge may be just the thing you need. Your business can be funded by family, friends, a bank loan, a business grant or using an overdraft or credit card. N.B. I'm not a qualified financial consultant so it's important for you to get the right financial advice on how to fund your business responsibly. Who is Your Customer? A few years ago when I got started in business I had no idea how important this is for entrepreneurs. Don't worry if you have no idea who your ideal client avatar is right now. The most important thing is realising that you'll need to get clear on this person in order to scale. Promoting your business is vital to getting clients to sign up with you. However, if your message is not clear then your potential customers will not take action...
God is glorified not only by His glories being seen, but by its being rejoiced in.-Jonathan Edwards Last week we looked at Revelation 1:7-8.We got a bit of a glimpse about how he feels and does things when we are talking about his return. I found that it is through years of meditating and thinking on these things that help get me to the place where I can begin to believe them. It's so far out of our normal experience to think of a man riding on clouds. It's fascinating for sure…which is one of the reasons why doing this exercise and declaring the truths of these things even in list form can be such a powerful too. Todays Passage: I, John, your brother and partner in the tribulation and the kingdom and the patient endurance that are in Jesus, was on the island called Patmos on account of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet saying, “Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea.” Revelation 1:9-11 1) He has patient endurance (and for us to have it, it's only found in his person)2) He allows his people to be persecuted and emprisoned on His account(John was on Patmos on the account of God's word) Which leads us into the third and fourth on the list:3) His Word is offensive to many. 4) The testimony of Jesus in our lives is offensive to many.5) He allows us to enter into something called “The spirit” (John said, “I was in the Spirit", some may say its the “heavenly realm”)6) He is behind us “And I heard behind me” 7) He speaks8) He has a loud voice (We will learn that he uses many different voices) 9) He actually told people what to write down. (The connotations of this: The word is God Breathed. He inspires us to write. He makes us messengers. You cold probably put those things down on the list separately but, I'll keep it as #9)10) He wanted it written for the seven churches (which means, He actually cares and has instructions for His church)11) God isn't vague (He tells Him which churches.)Declarations:You Jesus, have patient enduranceYou allow those you love to be persecutedYour Word is offensive to many. The testimony of you in my life is offensive to manyYou take people up in the spirit You are behind me, you have my backYou speak and give instructionYou have a loud voice JesusYou inspire writing, you've instructed your people what to write in the pastYou care and have instructions for your churchYou have specific plans that you want to reveal to us and your churchVisit the website:beholding.caPremium feed to support the show and get future music and bonus content sent right to your podcast player as an episode.https://app.redcircle.com/shows/d9f6f16e-5b17-4c15-a7a9-cfd891847306/exclusive-contentParticipate by submitting comments/audio or whatever helps you to engage in the process with me. https://www.beholding.ca/participate.html?r=20210710130824Support this podcast at — https://redcircle.com/beholding/exclusive-content

In this episode we discuss 6 important principles for the pastor (and church member) on vacation. Vacations are good, so make time for them! For the Pastor:Find someone to preach for 2 weeks. One while you're gone and one when you get backYou don't want to plan and write a sermon on vacationEpisode on Pastoral InternsTime it right. You need to get used to the idea that you can’t always take off when you want to…Commit to being present at critical times in the life of the church.Don’t plan on traveling during Christmas or Easter.Plan around your spouse's work, your kids sports and events, and your other job (if applicable).Try not to miss too many Sundays. You can miss ALMOST 2 weeks by missing only 1 Sunday.Budget for it in advance.Plan to use campgrounds, Air BnB, free activities, nature, good gas mileage, packed lunches, or places that give BIG pastor discounts or even provide free lodging for pastors and their familiesMaximize it by visiting friends and family on the way.Plan to stay in the Word and prayer.Be with you family and treat them well.Put your work down (physically and mentally)Trust the Lord with the church and take advantage of this time away together. For the Church Member:Meet with God on vacation.Regular time in Word and prayerSing with your familyPoint to God’s creative genius as you look at nature and praise HimMeet with the body of Christ on vacation.Go to church! You are not an isolated Christian — you’re part of a body. You see the bigger body you’re a part of. You’re encouraged by people who are very different, but VERY much the same. You learn things you can introduce to your church (look at the bulletin, how kids are dismissed, new songs, an element of the liturgy, etc.)You appreciate your church more. You encourage Christians who see you taking this responsibility seriously.Maintain your biblical lifestyle. Pray for others who are on vacation and encourage them when they get home.Links for our Top Two's:preborn.orgPost Card Sized Sermon Series CardsUppercut Matte ClayDeodorant Style SunscreenCONTACT (give us feedback, topic ideas, or just say hey)Call and leave a message at (570) 724-3741Email: ruralpastorstalk@gmail.comWebsite: http://ruralpastorstalk.buzzsprout.com/SOCIAL MEDIAFacebook: http://facebook.com/ruralpastorstalkTwitter: @ruralpastorsLISTENItunesSpotifyStitcher
