Pastor Arthur Guice received Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior in 1980, while attending Elmhurst College, Elmhurst, IL. It was during this season in his life that Arthur sensed a call to ministry. As a result, he changed his major from Business Administration to Theology. On March 23, 2003, Arthur was installed as the Senior Pastor of Spirit of Liberty Church of God, Markham, IL. A few years after serving as Senior Pastor, Arthur faced personal tragedy as his lovely and devoted wife of nine years went home to be with the Lord after a very courageous and lengthy battle with cancer. By the grace of God, Pastor Guice continued to serve as the Senior Pastor of Spirit of Liberty of God in Markham, IL until retiring in February 2023. Arthur also serves as the Great Lakes Regional Prayer coordinator for the Church of God, Cleveland Tennessee, and was ordained as a Bishop through the same ecclesiastical hierarchy. He is the founder and President of Full of Glory Ministries, Inc., a teaching ministry committed to developing fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ as well as the Illinois State Coordinator for Cry Out America. Art is a man who is deeply committed to fulfilling the “Great Commission” of our Lord Jesus Christ by making disciples of all nations. He has an anointing to teach and preach the Word of God with simplicity and with accuracy. He is a much sought-after speaker for conferences, seminars and workshops throughout the Chicago area and the nation. In this podcast, Pastor Art shares how he believes Black History Month (February) is actually helpful for people of color to help them see more clearly that some of the things they have been taught about their identity by a less than godly culture are simply not true. And that, with God and the truth of His Word, they can become all that He wants them to be. Art also emphasized the importance of the Church in America to have the true spiritual unity that Jesus prayed about in John 17:20-23, and that, unless we move quickly toward genuine unity, God's judgment is close at hand.

The “science of reading” is trending; but in order for professionals to engage in effective instruction, they need to understand that literacy also includes spelling and writing.Writing, spelling, and reading are interconnected, and the growing body of research continues to show us that these skills need to be taught explicitly. That's why I invited Dr. Jan Wasowicz to episode 176 of the De Facto Leaders podcast to discuss the Language Literacy Network (Link here: https://learningbydesign.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/01/TLLN_11x8.5.pdf); a framework she's created to help professionals better understand the connections between reading, writing, spelling, and language. Dr. Jan Wasowicz has more than 40 years of experience as a speech-language, literacy, and learning specialist working with students in a variety of educational settings, including public schools, Head Start programs, and private practice. Dr. Wasowicz is frequently invited to speak about best practices in literacy assessment and instruction and has taught numerous undergraduate and graduate courses, holding faculty positions at Northwestern University, Elmhurst College, Rush–Presbyterian–St. Luke's Medical Center, and Governors State University. Her credits include articles published in scholarly journals and U.S. patents for her inventions of literacy software programs including Earobics® and Spelling Performance Evaluation for Language and Literacy (SPELL-3). Dr. Wasowicz is an author of SPELL-Links to Reading & Writing and lead moderator of the SPELLTalk multi-disciplinary professional listserv. She also currently serves as an advisory board member of The Reading League of Illinois and an external consultant for Purdue University's inter-disciplinary initiative to strengthen teacher preparation using science-based methods. Dr. Wasowicz is an ASHA-certified, IL-licensed, and FL-licensed speech-language pathologist and an ASHA Board Certified Specialist in Child Language and she holds a professional educator license with multiple endorsements from the State Teacher Certification Board of Illinois. She is the founder, president and CEO of SPELL-Links | Learning By Design, Inc., and she maintains a small private practice in IL via tele-practice and in FL serving students with oral and written language disorders. This episode is part of a partnership that's happening between the BEpodcast network (Link here: https://bepodcast.network/) and Reading is Fundamental (RIF) (Link here: https://www.rif.org) in September for National Literacy Month. In this conversation, we discuss:✅Do we need a “writing rope” to supplement the “reading rope”? Or should reading, writing and language be woven in to one literacy framework?✅Pragmatics, executive functioning, and metalinguistic awareness: How do these components fit in to effective literacy instruction?✅Does working on reading improve spelling? Does working on spelling improve reading? ✅Should professionals work on linguistic skills in stages? When/how should professionals start working on morphology in elementary school?✅Defining “print to speech” and “speech to print” approaches (with specific examples). Kris Myers was born on April 5, 1977. Receiving a drum kit at the age of 8, he took an early interest in jazz, rock and punk music. During high school Myers co-started his first musical outfit, a ska/punk band called the Skalawags. The group received a decent amount of success but denied an offer to tour Japan to instead pursue college degrees. Myers attended Elmhurst College from 1995 – 1999 where he was a music major and the drummer in the Elmhurst College Jazz Band. Under director Doug Beach, the Elmhurst College Jazz Band played gigs in the U.S. and Internationally at events such as the Umbria Jazz Festival, Jakarta Jazz Festival and the Montreaux Jazz Festival. In 2001 Myers enrolled in DePaul University where he earned his master's degree in jazz drumming and was a member of the Rob Parton Orchestra. In addition to his involvement in school bands, Myers was playing in festivals with a variety of jazz artists such as Nicholas Payton, Diane Schuur, Randy Brecker, Dennis DiBlasio as well as local musicians Mark Colby and John McLean. Myers also was a member of Chicago jazz fusion band Kick the Cat. Myers began playing drums for progressive-rock band Umphrey's McGee in 2003 following the departure of original drummer Mike Mirro. With Myers at the helm, Umphrey's has released ten albums and maintains a rigorous touring schedule of over 100 live shows per year. Umphrey's has performed at legendary festivals and venues such as Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Fuji Rock Festival, South by Southwest, Red Rocks, The Ryman Theatre, The Beacon Theatre and more. In 2011 Myers was honored with the title of Best Jam Band Drummer by DRUM Magazine, beating jamband stalwarts such as Butch Trucks (The Allman Brothers) and Jon Fishman (Phish). In 2018, Myers was featured on the cover of Modern Drummer's July issue. Myers placed second in the Experimental Rock category of the publication's “Readers Poll Awards” behind St. Vincent drummer Matt Johnson. The shortage of supply chain talent, especially on the line, isn't new: It just became more visible during the pandemic. What's more, with baby boomers retiring every day, it's only likely to become more of a challenge in the future. What's a supply chain manager to do? The answer is to begin looking for talent among overlooked and underutilized communities. On this episode of The reBound, Tim Engstrom joins Abe Eshkenazi, CEO of the Association for Supply Chain Management, and Bob Trebilcock, consulting editor of Supply Chain Management Review, to discuss a new approach to recruitment. As the SVP of supply chain at Essendant and an adjunct professor at Elmhurst College, Engstrom and his team have developed a playbook to bring people with disabilities, second chance hires and veterans into operations. They have also launched a program to train and educate young hires with the potential to lead. The results are impressive.

In this episode of The Concordia Publishing House Podcast, guest and author Dr. Andrew Das and host Elizabeth Pittman examine the Biblical book of Galatians. Packed with vital issues concerning the Christian faith, the pair dive into who the Galatians were, the issues they faced, and how believers can relate to them today. Dr. Das wrote the Concordia Commentary edition on the book of Galatians, which is available on the CPH website. He also did a series on Galatians on the CPH YouTube channel that you can watch here. Show Notes: The central issue in Galatians can be seen as a matter of identity. As the author of the letter to the Galatians, the apostle Paul speaks of embodying Christ in his own life and in the lives of the Galatians. In this episode Dr. Das shares his knowledge into this prevalent theme that is present throughout Galatians and talks about how it relates to our lives as Christians living in the modern world. Dr. Das also analyzes several concepts in Paul's writing, dissects Martin Luther's commentary on Galatians, and more in this episode. Learn more about Dr. Das: http://andrewdas.net/ Read Dr. Das's bio on cph.org: https://www.cph.org/m-124-a-andrew-das Questions CoveredWho were the Galatians? What is “the Gospel” Paul preached versus the “different gospel” to which the Galatians turned? Galatians is loaded with vital issues for the Christian faith. What particular issues plagued the church in Galatia, and are there equivalent issues plaguing the church today? Luther's commentary on the Galatians is usually considered a classic, why is that? Are we saved through faith alone (“Abraham believed … and it was credited as righteousness”) or through faith plus doing “works of the Law”? Which came first, the Law or the Gospel promise? What does it mean for Paul and for us to say “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me” (Gal 2:20)? What does Paul mean when he says “there is neither male nor female” but those baptized into Christ “are all one”? What are “the works of the flesh” and “the works of the Spirit” (Galatians 5)? About the GuestConsidered among the leading Pauline theorists of the last century, Dr. A. Andrew Das is the Donald W. and Betty J. Buik Chair and Professor of Religious Studies at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, Illinois. He teaches in biblical studies, early Christianity, and Second Temple Judaism. Dr. Das was an invited member of the Society of Biblical Literature's Paul and Scripture Seminar and has presented at the Society of Biblical Literature; the African Society of Biblical Scholars; the Chicago Society of Biblical Research; the international Studiorum Novi Testamenti Societas, of which he is an elected member; and the Evangelical Theological Society. He is also a member of the Catholic Biblical Association of America and serves on the Holman Christian Standard Bible revision committee. Dr. Das is a prolific writer, having authored several books and articles, including his major academic commentary on Galatians (CPH 2014). The Common Good podcast is a conversation about the significance of place, eliminating economic isolation and the structure of belonging. For this episode, Brad Wise, Darin Petersen and Joey Taylor speak with Walter Brueggemann about myth, Exodus and how it relates to the work of the Common Good. The recited poem was Moses by Luis Alberto de Cuenca.Walter Brueggemann is one of the most influential Bible interpreters of our time. He is the author of over one hundred books and numerous scholarly articles. He has been a highly sought-after speaker. Brueggemann was born in Tilden, Nebraska in 1933. He often speaks of the influence of his father, a German Evangelical pastor. Brueggemann attended Elmhurst College, graduating in 1955 with an A.B. He went on to Eden Theological Seminary, earning a B.D. (equivalent to today's M.Div.) in 1958. He completed his formal theological education at Union Theological Seminary in 1961, earning the Th.D. under the primary guidance of James Muilenburg. While teaching at Eden, he earned a Ph.D. in education at St. Louis University. Brueggemann has served as faculty at two institutions in his career: Eden Theological Seminary (1961-1986) and Columbia Theological Seminary (1986-2003). He is currently William Marcellus McPheeters professor emeritus of Old Testament at Columbia. Brueggemann's primary method with the text is rhetorical criticism. Words matter to Brueggemann, and one can tell that by listening to him speak as he hangs on to particularly theologically significant words. His magnum opus, Theology of the Old Testament (1997), is a rhetorical-critical look at the Old Testament through the lenses of “testimony, dispute, and advocacy.” Many have come to know Brueggemann through his book entitled The Prophetic Imagination. Church leaders find a friend in Brueggemann, an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. His work inspires, energizes, and convicts, and he often makes time to interact personally with those to whom he speaks at large events.Darin Petersen is the co-founder of the Common Good Collective and founder of Common Change.Brad Wise is the co-founder of three story-driven organizations: Boonrise, Bespoken Live, and Good vs Gooder. He is the chief creative officer for Boonrise based in Cincinnati, Ohio. When he's not doing all that, Brad is hanging out with his beautiful wife, Leah, and their three kids, Henry, Jane & Eliza. Their crazy dogs, Huck & Lola, are usually close by, as well. Brad was also a Common Good Collective Fellow. This episode was produced by Joey Taylor and the music is from Jeff Gorman. You can find more information about the Common Good Collective and the reader here. Common Good Podcast is a production of Bespoken Live and Common Change - Eliminating Personal Economic Isolation.

Hello friends! Welcome to episode seventy-five of New Creation Conversations. This is a very special conversation for me today because I get to talk with one of my very good friends but also with one of my heroes. My friend is Dr. Brent Strawn – whom I have had on the podcast a couple of times before. Brent is the D. Moody Smith Distinguished Professor of Old Testament and Professor of Law at Duke University and Divinity School. He is a longtime friend and an accomplished author. We have talked about a couple of his recent works on past podcasts.Brent is editing a series for WJK Press called Pivotal Moments in the Old Testament. The most recent volume in the series is entitled Returning from the Abyss: Pivotal Moments in the Book of Jeremiah by Dr. Walter Brueggemann. When I saw the book was coming out, I asked Brent if he might be able to convince Dr. Brueggemann to come on and have a roundtable conversation between the three of us. He agreed and I am so excited to get to bring that conversation to you.Walter is without question one of the most influential and prolific biblical interpreters of our time. He has authored over a hundred books and numerous scholarly articles. I have a shelf in my library with close to forty of his books. Perhaps my favorites are three volumes of his sermons. Dr. Brueggemann will tell some of his story growing up in Tilden, Nebraska. He graduated from Elmhurst College and Eden Theological Seminary. He earned a ThD in Old Testament at Union Theological Seminary and later completed a PhD in education at St Louis University. Now “retired” for almost 20 years, he spent his forty-two-year teaching career at both Eden and Columbia Theological Seminaries.
Our conversation today is with Tom Tyrrell, Founder and Chairman of Great Lakes Biomimicry, an entrepreneurial 501(c)(3) organization (recently having merged with the Ohio Aerospace Institute) with a mission to create conditions for innovation through biomimicry, focused on assisting organizations explore new opportunities, solve problems and drive sustainability.Biomimicry, which we'll explore in much more detail in our conversation, seeks to drive this innovation by harnessing the intelligence found in nature's 3.8 billion years of R&D — asking questions nature has already found the answers to — for example questions like how does nature manage structural forces, sense motion and temperature, manage temperature, change shape, coordinate, optimize material and energy? how does nature evolve to survive; adapt to changing conditions; be locally attuned and responsive; be resource efficient; employ life-friendly chemistry?Prior to founding Great Lakes Biomimicry, Tom was a co-founder and chairman of Segmint, a Northeast-Ohio-based startup and provider of data analytics-driven marketing technology (acquired by Alkami in April 2022).He was a Co-Founder, Senior Advisor, and Director of Glengary, which combined a network of support services with investment capital.Tom's thirty-three-year career prior, all in the metals industry, included significant turnaround, M&A, and IPO experience, with responsibility for four start-ups, restarts, or consolidations ranging from $250M – $1.5B in sales, partnering directly with investment firms including Primus Venture Partners, PNC Equity Management, Warburg Pincus and The Blackstone Group. In 1988 he was awarded Inc. Magazine's Entrepreneur of the Year (EOY) award for Business and Industry and, in 1989, was selected as an entrepreneur of the year finalist for the restart and operation of the American Steel & Wire Company.Since moving to the Cleveland area in 1986, Tom has spent virtually all his spare time engaged with the three E's – Education, Environment, and Entrepreneurism – all focused on enhancing Northeast-Ohio's regional economic development. He has actively supported both undergraduate and graduate-level entrepreneurial programs at midwestern colleges and universities as a trustee of Elmhurst College, Baldwin-Wallace College, and Lorain County Community College where he is also a member of the GLIDE Innovation Fund Board and served on the NorTech Board of Trustees, the Youngstown Business Incubator Board, and the Akron Archangels. He also was a trustee of the Ohio & Erie Canalway Association, the oversight board for the federally funded Ohio & Erie National Heritage Canalway. Tom has been involved with the Canalway since 1988, is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Conservancy of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, was the Founding Chair of the Trails Forever Endowment Leadership Initiative for the Conservancy and a former trustee of the Cleveland Zoological Society. This was easily one of my favorite discussions to date covering a wide range of topics and the full breadth of tom's experience — I hope you all enjoy my conversation with Tom Tyrrell!--Connect with Tom Tyrrell on LinkedinFollow on Great Lakes Biomimicry on Twitter: https://twitter.com/glbiomimicryFollow Segmint on Twitter: https://twitter.com/Segmint Learn more about Great Lakes Biomimicry Learn more about Segmint--Connect with Jeffrey Stern on LinkedInFollow Jeffrey Stern on Twitter @sternJefeFollow Lay of The Land on Twitter @podlayofthelandhttps://www.jeffreys.page/
Are you willing to do the work and focus on someone else besides yourself? Are you willing to be a better person for it? These are the same questions that drive Cathy Adams, a self-awareness expert, podcast host, & author focus on helping parents and empowering families. Cathy is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Certified Parent Coach, Certified Elementary School Teacher, Certified Yoga Teacher, and teaches in the Sociology Department at Dominican University and Elmhurst College. 11 Years ago, Cathy and her husband Todd launched Zen Parenting Radio, a podcast that helps expand compassion through the lens of a spiritual & emotional mom and a logical & practical dad. Cathy's most recent book, Zen Parenting, dives into the seven chakras and how they intertwine with our lives as parents. Cathy explains that her journey as a new mom was not quite how she originally envisioned it, which helped lead to several life transitions that led her into therapy and parental coaching. As Cathy pointed out during our conversation, "if it's hysterical, it's historical," a reference used in recovery programs that identify the root cause of an issue is always a few layers deep and not simply on the surface. We can't always plan for what's next, especially as parents. What is possible is our unlimited capacity for compassion and caring—for ourselves and our children. Please enjoy my conversation with Cathy Adams. For show notes and resources discussed in this episode, visit tammacapital.com/77. For more episodes, go to tammacapital.com/podcast. Coach Jim Whitesell,In this episode, you'll hear from Coach Jim Whitesell. Coach Whitesell is currently the Head Coach at the University at Buffalo. Coach Whitesell just completed year three as the leader of the Bulls. And, Buffalo has been one of the best mid-major basketball programs over the last decade. In the Chicagoland area, Coach Whitesell was the Head Coach at Elmhurst University, Lewis University, and Loyola University Chicago. Susie Inverso: Photographer and owner of Crimson Cat Studios. Susie grew up in the suburbs of Chicago in a household filled with dogs, bunnies, guinea pigs, and gerbils. She learned the language of animals at an early age, especially from her Golden Retriever, Buffy. Her best memories involve learning the trumpet and performing in her junior high jazz band and high school marching band. It was around that time that she also picked up her grandfather's manual film camera. It was a Pentax, probably new in the 1960s or early 70s, and it made this "chck" sound that Susie fell in love with. The camera took a near backseat while she studied music at Elmhurst College, but was never far from her hand. She spent as much time in the darkroom as she did in rehearsals, and after graduating with her Bachelor's of Music, went straight to work in the photo industry. For years she photographed weddings & portraits and played in several musical projects including bass guitar with The Bangers and trumpet with Mucca Pazza. She also photographed her beloved Chicago for 2 books in the 111 Places guidebook series: 111 Places in Chicago That You Must Not Miss and 111 Places For Kids in Chicago That You Must Not MIss . Susie followed her passion to photograph pets and she shares her obstacles and how she looks forward every day to spending time with playful pups and making stunning artwork on a daily basis! Sometimes it feels like we only get to hear the stories of those who have already found success. Though those conversations are fun, and we get to learn a lot from them, sometimes I can't relate because I'm not there yet myself. I want to hear from someone who hasn't made it yet but is working the grind and finding themselves along the way. Travis Rueckert is an everyday family man from the midwest. He works a job, has a lovely wife and child, loves his dog, pretty much like the rest of us. Also like many of us, Travis wants to do something he is passionate about, so in his spare time, he is building an art business. Travis graduated with an art degree from Elmhurst College where he discovered a love for oil paintings. He has been featured in art galleries, hospitals, and businesses across the country. His most famous piece, titled “Love Wins”, won a competition and was featured on a billboard in downtown Manhattan. During Covid, Travis fell into a slump. He came to the conclusion that he was burned out on painting with oils and he wanted to do something that moved people emotionally. Travis started doing mixed media artworks where he uses uncommon materials to create his pieces. Once a week during his “Friday Fun” you can find Travis on his Instagram channel where he explores new creative ideas and mediums. It was great to hear from someone who is working the process, growing as an individual, and finding success. Entrepreneurship has always been Tess Kossow's dream profession. And after having her miracle baby boy, Ferris, she realized this was a now-or-never moment to jump in and become an author with a product the world needs. Ferris was her last embryo and the answered prayer of faith, love, and science through IVF. Reading holds a very special place in Tess's heart, and this next stage of her career has her creating something she is so very passionate about in the lives of children through her picture books: in vitro fertilization. In November 2019, Tess was a finisher in the New York City Marathon. In October 2020, she survived sudden cardiac arrest and was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy. Still through it all, she loved to host parties and celebrate life, no matter the occasion! She holds a Bachelor's and Master's Degree from Elmhurst College, which is also where she met her best friend and husband, Dan. She has a Havanese named Gatsby and a Siamese cat named James Bond. (Both of which are Ferris' partners in crime). Tess is a mother, first and foremost, and everything else comes second. She believes you really can have and achieve anything you want…but you are going to have to work for it and expect nothing to be handed to you. Her husband often calls her his real-life Steve Jobs, because of how she lives her life and leads by example for her son to believe in the following: “Here's to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they're not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can't do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.” Ferris is her inspiration, and her husband, Dan, is the motivation that keeps her running the extra mile in all she does. Listen to Tess as she discusses with Ellen and Jenn: • How Tess and her husband found themselves needing fertility assistance and IVF. • How her pregnancy changed her lifestyle. • Finding ways to normalize and discuss the struggles of pregnancy and post-partum experiences. • What changed in her view of life to start to write children's books. • Tess's story of cardiac arrest and survival. • Her mission to get her story out there and help others. Dr. Andrew Das, Professor of Religious Studies at Elmhurst College in Elmhurst, IL joins Rev. Brady Finnern to start our study on Galatians 1:1-10. Paul is astonished. The churches in Galatia had heard and believed in the one true Gospel of Christ’s forgiveness for His sake, but there were some who had troubled their souls with questions concerning that promise. He speaks directly to them that there is only one Gospel and any other gospel given leads to people being accursed. To Him be all the glory forever and ever who was raised from the dead. “O Holy Spirit, thank you for delivering us from the present evil age and keep us steadfast in Your Word and in faithfulness to the one Gospel. Lord have mercy. Amen.”

One of the most common questions pastors get asked is for help on how to read the Bible. Rev. Emily Snowden breaks down the concept of how we can take the Bible seriously without taking it literally. She reassures us that something can be true without it being “capital T true.” Emily also helps us understand why adapting is not only important - it is vital. We can either adapt, change, or die - both as churches and as a people. Change and adaptation are vital for survival. Listen in as Emily encourages us to learn how to make important shifts, how to ask important questions, all while remembering that we are wholly beloved by God.Rev. Emily Snowden serves Congregational United Church of Christ in Arlington Heights, Illinois. She also serves as a coach with Seed to Stem Coaching, which she runs with her colleague Sean (Weston) Williams. Pastor Emily graduated from Elmhurst College where she studied History, Theological Studies/Christian Ministry, and Intercultural Studies. After graduating from Elmhurst, Pastor Emily served as a member of the Jesuit Volunteer Corps at a drop-in center for homeless young adults in Los Angeles. She then earned her Master of Divinity degree from the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, CA. Among other positions, she has served as a hospital chaplain in Michigan, a sabbatical pastor for a UCC church in Champaign, IL, and most recently as the Interim Director of the Niebuhr Center for Engagement and Reflection at Elmhurst College. Pastor Emily shares her life with her wife Sasha, her twin kiddos, and their dog. She loves drinking tea, listening to music, and cooking. She occasionally plays the guitar, practices yoga, and travels.

Entrepreneurship has always been Tess Kossow's dream profession, and after having her miracle baby boy, Ferris, she realized this was a now-or-never moment to jump in and become an author with a product the world needs. Ferris is Kossow's last embryo and the answered prayer of faith, love and science through IVF.Reading holds a very special place in Kossow's heart, and this next stage of her career has her creating something she is so very passionate about in the lives of children through her picture books: in vitro fertilization. Now a little about Kossow, personally…"In November 2019, I am proud to say I was a finisher in the New York City Marathon. I love to host parties and celebrate life, no matter how small the occasion!I have a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree from Elmhurst College, which is also where I met my best friend and husband, Dan. We have a toy Maltese named Mr Big and a Siamese cat named James Bond. (Both of which are Ferris’ partners in crime). I am a mother, first and foremost, and everything else comes second. I believe you really can have and achieve anything you want…but you are going to have to work for it and expect nothing to be handed to you. My husband often calls me his real-life Steve Jobs because I live my life for my son to believe in the following: “Here’s to the crazy ones, the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes… the ones who see things differently — they’re not fond of rules… You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things… they push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.” Ferris is my inspiration, and my husband, Dan, is the motivation that keeps me running the extra mile in all I do."Music by Matt Biskie and The Island City "Little Flaws"Go to Intentionallylola.com to learn more about our mission and what we offerIntentionally Lola is sponsored by Lola. Sermon delivered by Rev. Brian Chenowith on August 6, 2017. Brian is a lifelong Chicagoan with roots in the South Side. His spiritual upbringing was Catholic and Anglican though he came to Unitarian Universalism in middle school. It was there, in that UU church where he spent his formative years, that he heard the call to ministry most clearly. He earned his degree in Theology & Religion from Elmhurst College in 2008. From there he entered seminary in 2011 after a period of discernment and preparation for theological education and graduated from Meadville Lombard in Chicago in 2014. Brian served two congregations as a ministerial intern for three years. Two of those years were spent at Unity Temple in Oak Park, Illinois and the remaining year was at First Parish in Concord, MA. Through these two congregations, the real learning in ministry happened. He is currently the minister of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lexington, Kentucky. The theme for August is how to be a community of connection. To read about our theme-based ministry, please visit http://www.unitytemple.org/faith-development/soul-connections on our website.
