I'll guide you through Viking's new Itineraries and FAQs with Viking Cruise Line in this week's video. We talked about Viking ocean vessels, which have a capacity of 900 guests. Perfect for amenities and yet small enough to have that personalized service. You can get into the smaller, more intimate destinations and ports. Viking has been in service for 27 years and will welcome its 10th ocean vessel this year. . Viking Cruises has two expedition ships and river and ocean vessels. These expedition vessels can hold 378 guests and can travel anywhere in the world. Only 1% of the world's population has ever been to Antarctica, and Viking Expedition ships also go there. They also visit the Canadian High Arctic. South America is visited when they repositioned from Antarctica to the Polar Arctic so that you can visit Patagonia, Chile, other South American hemispheres, and the Mississippi River. Vilking offers river, ocean, and expedition trips. There is something for everyone, and the locations are diverse. You can see the world in comfort. . We then discussed World Cruises with Viking Cruise Line. They just listed to book their 2026 world cruise! A world cruise starts on December 19, 2025, and you are on board for 138 days. Another world cruise starts from Los Angeles to London on January 5, 2026. You board with 900 strangers and depart with 900 friends. Remember that Viking includes all your shore excursions! A great way to check that bucket list! . We then discussed Viking's quiet season Mediterranean sailing promos. Where you can get a better value by booking into the “shoulder seasons” - less crowds, better pricing - sounds like a win! Visit in the fall and early spring, when the weather is perfect, and you can spend time with the locals instead of the crowds. . Kim then talked about the itinerary she will take: Ancient Mediterranean Treasures. This cruise starts in Athens and lasts a few days, visiting Athens, Crete, Ephesus, Rhodes, and Troy. It focuses on ancient treasures and ends in Istanbul. You will explore these areas during the cruise and learn about daily shore excursions! We discussed Viking's departure from Los Angeles, its visit to the Hawaiian islands, the French Polynesian islands, New Zealand, and its final destination, Sydney, Australia. Which would be spectacular. One of the main parts of that voyage is the cost of short excursions, so having that into your cruise fare, where you can choose a different short excursion every day, would be a spectacular way to explore French Polynesia in Hawaii. . Viking also offers a 32-day circumnavigation of Australia, a great way to see this area. The itinerary also stops in Bali. You can also see Scandinavia with Viking! Facts about Viking: No children under 18 are on board. WiFi is included. Small Ship Cruising. Shore excursions are included. All dining venues are included, and there is no charge for specialty dining. Beer and wine with lunch and dinner. No casinos on board. The spa is included on all the ocean ships. All veranda cabins, no inside staterooms.

Located in the Pacific Ocean, French Polynesia is made up of over 100 islands, some of which are comprised of ring-shaped coral reefs called atolls. These are particularly susceptible to climate change. The idyllic atoll of Hao, also known as the "harp island" for its bow-like shape, is threatened daily by rising sea levels. Residents face a tough decision: continue to weather the ravages of rising tides, or relocate and become climate refugees. Our France 2 colleagues report, with FRANCE 24's Lauren Bain.

This week on the Film at Lincoln Center podcast, we're featuring a Q&A from the 60th New York Film Festival with director Albert Serra on Pacifiction, moderated by FLC's Senior Director of Programming Florence Almozini, and a special programmers preview with the curators behind the 51st Dance on Camera Festival, taking place through Monday and featuring 30 new films from 35 countries. Get tickets to the longest-running dance film festival in the world at filmlinc.org/dance. Catalan filmmaker Albert Serra reconfirms his centrality in the contemporary cinematic landscape with this mesmerizing portrait of a French bureaucrat (a monumental Benoît Magimel) drifting through a fateful trip to a French Polynesian island with increasing anxiety. Pacifiction charts the various uneasy relationships that develop between Magimel's autocratic yet avuncular High Commissioner, De Roller, and the Indigenous locals (including nonprofessional actor Pahoa Mahagafanau in a hypnotic breakthrough as De Roller's trusted right hand and maybe lover) who operate essentially under his faux-benevolent thumb, many of whom we meet at a resort that caters to the prurient exoticism of foreign tourists. Serra's gripping, atmospheric thriller is a slow-building fever dream that lulls before catching us by surprise with the depths of its darkness, a film that allows its incisive social commentary about the remnants of colonialism to surface through quiet observation and aesthetic audacity. Pacifiction opens February 17th in our theaters with in-person intros and Q&As with Serra on Feb. 17, 18 & 19. Get tickets at filmlinc.org/pacifiction.

Bonnie Banane, HSRS, Sébastien Forrester, Photay and QuinzeQuinze's Tsi Min discuss downloading ideas, why music is like a dish with an infinite number of ingredients, and the importance of not drowning in words. Tsi Min formed the French-Tahiti group QuinzeQuinze with a bunch of close friends who met at art school in Paris. Their music is electronic in nature, but draws on the sounds and traditions of their French-Polynesian heritage. French alt-pop star Bonnie Banane has a unique experimental sound that blends R&B and electronic music, and is known for some pretty eccentric music videos. Julie Bessard, otherwise known as HSRS, is a transgressive pop artist from France who started singing and producing in 2004 under the moniker BESSA. Sébastien Forrester is a French-British drummer and composer who was formerly known as Holy Strays. After spending lots of time in Gabon growing up, he developed a passion for percussion, particularly the Bwiti ritual drums. Photay is an electronic music producer based in New York, who is a master of combining natural and synthetic sounds. Being introduced to Aphex Twin at the age of nine provided him with the foundation for his musical journey, and he's also a member of the Afro-Latin electronic collective WEMA.

With dynamic color-changing spot lighting and a mirrored ceiling, the work is a striking focal point on board. “Harps” was produced and designed by ArtLink, based on a concept by Tihany Design. It is valued at $620,000.The smallest works are by Betty Pepper, who uses reworked books and adds intricate details and scenes made from old maps. They can be seen in the forward stairwell between decks 7 and 8. The exquisitely small elements are a testament to Pepper's ability to work at a scale that few artists can master. Each of the stairwells has a theme that reaches from top to bottom. The theme of the forward stairs is architecture, midship stairs is music and aft stairs is zoology. The oldest artist is Baron Wolman (deceased), born in 1937. The U.S. native was the chief photographer for Rolling Stone magazine from 1967 until late 1970. He was ranked among the 20th century's elite and most collectible photographers. The youngest artist is Leva Berlande. The 31-year-old rising artist is a student from Latvia and has a painting featured in the Neptune Lounge. As with Rudi's Sel de Mer on Nieuw Statendam, Master Chef Rudi Sodamin's son and emerging artist Magnus Sodamin created a visually stimulating mural that adorns the wall in his father's namesake specialty restaurant on Rotterdam. Called “Oceans Feast,” the work measures 23 feet long and 3.6 feet tall.Italian artist Federico Picci contributes conversation starters that tie in magically with the ship's design. His photographs capture how music would look if we could not only listen to it but see it, too. In one image, balloons float out of a piano, representing the evanescence of something that evaporates in the air as it is created, like the element of sound. One of the most striking and expensive pieces is a dazzling, illuminated crystal “Key” (treble clef) created by Dutch artist Hans van Bentem for Deck 3, midship. The piece is valued at $27,000.Considered among the most avant-garde pieces in the collection is a fiberglass sculpture of an otter in the aft stairwell lobby on Deck 9 by Spanish artist Okuda San Miguel. San Miguel is known for his distinctive style of colorful geometric patterns that portray animals, skulls, religious iconography and human figures. In the embarkation area is a work titled “Billie Holiday” by Ani Abakumova. It is made up of 3 miles of threads — 8,000 threads in total. Abakumova's husband is a mathematician who developed an algorithm that enables her to create images from threads that change color without using paint. One of the most valuable works is a mixed media on canvas piece in the forward stairwell lobby on Deck 8 by Mehdi Ghadyanloo, an Iranian artist, painter and muralist known for his gigantic trompe l'oeil–style murals. Ghadyanloo recently had solo exhibitions in Almine Rech's galleries in Paris and Brussels, and now Holland America Line guests can enjoy his captivating art.Yongsun Jang, from Republic of Korea, welds cross sections of stainless-steel pipes to configure clusters of “cells,” then puts it all together to represent different organic beings. For Rotterdam, he created cello and pan flute sculptures for the B.B. King's Blues Club/Lincoln Center Stage space. The vibrant work of Lisa Krannichfield is on display in the Club Orange specialty restaurant. Her pieces meld the border between masculine and feminine and explore what it means to be fashionable and make a statement. The art aboard Rotterdam comprises one of the finest collections at sea. Guests can admire the decks inside and out and discover inspired works from a global assembly of emerging artists who share the spaces alongside some of the most renowned talent in the world.Cunard announces new itineraries on Queen Elizabeth for 2022Cunard has announced that a series of new itineraries sailing on Queen Elizabeth between February and May 2022 will go on sale in November. Ponant pioneers safety regulations in the polar regionsPonant, the world leader of luxury expeditions, and an expert in navigation in polar regions for over two decades, recently organised the world's first international rescue exercise in a remote polar zone. During a trial voyage to the North Pole with its polar exploration vessel, Le Commandant Charcot, the company raised the bar again for maritime safety and standards in polar tourism. The one-off on-site scenario was live coordinated between Russia, Greenland, Iceland, Canada, the United States and Norway, as well as the PONANT teams aboard and PONANT's head office in Marseille, France. The exercise took place over a 24-hour period on the ice, during which the 67 participants had to set up a polar survival camp among other tasks. American and Canadian coastguards, as well as Norwegian Arctic rescue experts were also present as observers. The objectives of the simulated rescue exercise were to optimise the coordination between the region's international rescue centres and conduct medical research and behavioural studies on participants to understand the impact of spending long periods of time on the ice. Conclusions are being shared with polar environment experts and will help the expedition cruise industry and rescue centres across the world to not only devise new safety strategies, but also improve their knowledge about the impacts of such a crisis situation. For Ponant, the exercise was also an ideal opportunity to test all the rescue and safety equipment, particularly the Ice Cube, the group survival kit, the floating polar shelters and the survival suits. Developed and designed from scratch by Ponant, they currently exceed the existing safety criteria established by the tourism industry as well as the military. With the tools developed by Ponant and the organisation of such a large-scale exercise, the company continues to set new standards of safety at sea, as well as pioneering new ways of exploration.Ponant opens Kimberley 2023 Season!Ponant has released sales for the highly anticipated 2023 Kimberley Expedition season for one of the company's most popular expeditions for both adventure and beauty. The ship, which is the most environmentally advanced ship in MSC Cruises' fleet to date, is named after the ancient goddess Eurybia who harnessed the winds, weather and constellations to master the seas and the vision of the ship is to master the deployment of state-of-the-art sustainable technologies to protect and preserve the precious marine ecosystem. MSC Cruises is calling on artists from around the world to create a unique artwork inspired by the sea and its important marine ecosystem that will be featured as a permanent design across the ship's hull, as she sails the world's oceans. The design contest, which is now open, is a first for MSC Cruises and shines a light on the Company's ongoing commitment to the environment and its commitment to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) by 2050.The entries will be judged by a panel of international judges including sand artist Jben, known for his large-scale ephemeral sand frescoes that wash away with the tide, architect Martin Francis and Pierfrancesco Vago, Executive Chairman of the Cruise Division of MSC Group. Jben has travelled the world sculpting Beach Art in the United States, France, Morocco, Holland and Portugal, raising awareness of sea-related environmental issues, encouraging marine protection and preservation. Only one winner will be lucky enough for their artwork to be showcased on the ship's hull, as a sailing outdoor gallery for the world to see. Five further shortlist finalists will also have their designs displayed in an exhibition on board MSC Euribia, where guests will be exposed to their art and its important message for years to come.MSC Cruises has also shared a video [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8nWPhH4bRY] of artist Jben calling on other artists to join him. On 19 October, he created an immense 45 metre x 45 metre fresco on French beach the Côte Sauvage, telling designers ‘MSC wants you' and calling on them to join the competition.MSC Euribia will come into service in 2023 and become the second LNG-powered ship in MSC Cruises' fleet, marking another step forward in substantially reducing greenhouse gas emissions. LNG plays a key role in the journey towards climate change mitigation and MSC Euribia's engines have the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 21% compared to standard fuels while also virtually eliminating other air emissions.https://www.talenthouse.com/i/Create-a-design-for-the-hull-of-MSC-Euribia-cruise-shipDream Cruises collaborates with Tourism Western AustraliaDream Cruises has partnered with Tourism Western Australia (TWA) in Singapore to feature the ‘Western Australia Adventure Awaits' showpiece on World Dream, as part of the ship's ‘Markets of the World' thematic cruises from Singapore until 6 November 2021. The work will begin following the publication of SBTi's marine transport methodology. Science-based targets show companies how much, and how quickly, they need to reduce their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to help limit global warming.Along the journey to net zero, key milestones will be critical to making progress. One of the most ambitious milestones includes the delivery of a net zero cruise ship by 2035. To achieve these ambitions, the company will rely on strong partnerships with governments, suppliers and shipyards to develop alternative and accessible fuels and technology. The company's focus on achieving these measurable goals builds on its track record of designing and operating some of the most energy efficient ships on the seas. Thanks to optimized hull design and system upgrades such as AC chillers utilizing 30-40% less energy, Royal Caribbean Group has consistently delivered a new generation of ships 20-25% more efficient than their predecessors. From Silversea Cruises' ‘Project Evolution' – the cruise industry's first hybrid-powered ship set to debut summer 2023 – to the wind farm in Kansas that will offset up to 12% of our scope 1 and 2 emissions per year, Royal Caribbean Group is already executing on its Destination Net Zero strategy to drive the development of emissions-reducing technology and alternative fuel solutions.“Royal Caribbean Group has a history of innovating in every aspect and level of the company,” said William K. Reilly, chairman, Royal Caribbean Group's board of directors' safety, environment, and health committee. “This is another important step on the serious and ambitious path to preserve the health and allure of the sea and the beauty of the oceans.”Destination Net Zero's four-pronged approach includes:Modernization of our global brands fleet through the introduction of 13 new energy-efficient and alternatively fueled vessels, including its recently announced ‘Project Evolution' — the industry's first ship to remove all local emissions while at port.Continued investment in energy efficiency programs for its fleet, including energy saving technologies, enhanced data systems and digitalization.Development of alternative fuel and alternative power solutions.Optimized deployment and integration of strategic shore-based supply chains.Pandaw closes after 26 years of pioneering river cruises. Pandaw regrets to announce that due to the continuing Covid 19 impact on international leisure travel, the closure of its destinations in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and India, and the critical political situation in Myanmar, the company has no alternative but to cease its river cruise operations due to the lack of financial liquidity and failure to find additional funding in the wake of the Covid 19 crisis.Though forward bookings for a restart in 2022 remained strong, with great support from the ever-loyal Pandaw community, the company lacks the funding to continue layup operations of their seventeen ships for another year, and then undergo essential refurbishment to prepare for renewed operations, the timing of which is highly uncertain, even assuming this may occur for the winter 2022/23 season. The company has worked tirelessly over the past year to find new investors or other forms of finance to carry the company through, but without success.Founded in 1995, Pandaw pioneered river expeditions in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and India with its iconic boutique ships. Up till the impact of Covid, Pandaw had enjoyed the support of a loyal following of travellers, high occupancy and year on year growing revenues, with positive financial results.Despite the closure of Pandaw Cruises, the Pandaw Charity, which has done much to support people in Myanmar during the on-going crisis there, will continue its work under the guidance of its trustees. And moreEthical Cruise T-Shirts Now available branded podcast t-shirts, cruise-tees and Christmas gifts or design your own in the studio. These historic sightings are a culmination of MSC Cruises' successful project to return the island and its surrounding waters to its former status as a thriving environment for indigenous flora and fauna. Over six nests have been identified so far and are being monitored on the island.Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, MSC Cruises' private island in The Bahamas, is founded on a strong commitment to the conservation of marine life with 64 square miles of protected waters around the island. From its conception, the goal for Ocean Cay was to return the former industrial sand excavation site to its pristine beauty and to attract local species of fauna and flora both on land and in the ocean. Since it opened in late 2019, the island has progressively transformed into a lush tropical paradise with a rich marine ecosystem and proof of the progress of the conservation programme can be seen with the fact that Loggerhead sea turtle hatchlings have been observed making their way to sea from nests on the island.More than six nests and hundreds of sea turtle hatchlings have been identified on MSC Cruises' marine reserve private islandWhile the successful coral restoration programme has transformed the waters around the former industrial site back into a rich marine ecosystemItinerary of the WeekCreative Cruising & Kiss Tahiti “Tahiti with Kate Ceberano”Wind Star – Nov 2022 – 8nt Cruise (plus pre/post accommodation)Papeete – Moorea – Raiatea – Taha'a – Bora Bora – Huahine – PapeeteInternational return economy airfares ex Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane flying Air New Zealand.Pre- and post-cruise accommodation at the InterContinental Resort & Spa in Papeete, plus meals, complimentary Tahitian cocktail and cultural entertainment. All transfers in air-conditioned coaches, with complimentary water provided.7-night Wind Spirit sojourn, with meals, non-alcoholic drinks and one free glass of wine at dinner.5-island ‘sensual seafari with a difference' cruise itinerary where we seek to spot the ocean's Big Five: whales, reef sharks, dolphins, manta rays and turtles.9 nights' entertainment, including three musical performances courtesy of Kate Ceberano. One Kiss Tahiti hand-picked Diamond 4Cs Experience (valued at AUD 150) included. Few hotels combine exclusivity, luxury, and sustainability like the Brando does. In the first of our miniseries focusing on the best hotels and resorts in the world, we take a closer look at this remarkable private island property set on the Teti'aroa atoll near Tahiti. The vision for the resort began with Teti'aroa's owner—and French Polynesia's most famous resident—Marlon Brando. After falling in love with French Polynesian culture, Brando bought his own piece of paradise in 1967. After years of enjoying the biodiverse beauty of the multi-islet atoll—which is protected by a coral reef that encircles the islets—he decided that Teti'aroa had to be shared. In 1999 Brando began working with Richard Bailey, an American hotelier living in Tahiti. Bailey, who is also the founder of the nonprofit Teti'aroa Society, at first struggled to reconcile Brando's “crazy ideas” about how to build a self-sustaining resort that did more good than harm. But he eventually embraced the then-pioneering concepts of Brando—whom he calls one of the “first earth champions”—and went to work building a resort unlike anything the world had ever seen. Bailey joins Bruce to share Brando stories and how the actor's vision comes to life at the Brando, which opened in 2014. Thanks to features like a seawater air-conditioning system, solar power, and coconut oil, the resort today is carbon neutral from an energy standpoint—and yet still delivers one of the most exclusive and luxurious vacation experiences on Earth. The true luxury in Bailey's eyes comes from being in a location where you are secluded and can enjoy the island's beauty, history, and culture. The resort of course has a world-class spa, a wide range of water sports, first-rate cuisine, and even its own private plane and airstrip, but for many guests of the property's 35 villas—each of which has its own private pool and beach area—the immersive view of the island through archeological tours and jungle walks are what connects them to the Brando. The resort has hosted everyone from celebrities to former U.S. Presidents, all enjoying this unique resort both for its exclusivity and ecological mission, which is best summed up by Marlon Brando's son, who said, “Save Teti'aroa, save the world.” ----------------------------------- Learn more about the podcast: https://www.curtco.com/travelthatmatters Hosted by: Bruce Wallin Produced by: AJ Moseley and Darra Stone Music by: Joey Salvia A CurtCo Media Production See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The meeting was in response to the call by Pacific Islands Forum Leaders at their 50th Meeting, held in Tuvalu in 2019, to operationalise the provisions of the Treaty. Following its adoption at the 16th Forum Leaders meeting in the Cook Islands, the Treaty was only the second of its kind—today there are five such regional nuclear free zones covering 116 nations. On the 10th of July 1985, Greenpeace flagship protest vessel - the Rainbow Warrior - was bombed by French government agents in Auckland. Fernando Pereira, a Greenpeace photographer on board at the time, was killed in the blast. The bombing was a major diplomatic incident, and helped shape the nuclear free identity of Aotearoa New Zealand. But it was part of a much bigger and more deadly story of French colonialism in the Pacific, where nuclear testing at Mururoa and Fangataufa atolls has left a legacy of disease and death for the Ma’ohi people of the so called French Polynesia. Today we hear from Oscar Temaru, Independence leader and five times president of French Polynesia and Ena Manuireva, an Auckland University of Technology academic and PhD candidate who is from Mangareva, one of the French Polynesian islands most affected by the nuclear testing. Later on in the show, you’ll also hear from Stephanie Mills, a former Greenpeace Pacific nuclear test ban campaigner and previous chair of Greenpeace NZ Board, on the impacts of the bombing on her organisation and the international nuclear free movement. These three speakers were part of a six person panel discussion recorded by the Pacific Media Centre titled: “The Rainbow Warrior Incident - 35 Years Later”, which organised and hosted by Roxanne Panchasi of Simon Fraser University and co-sponsored by the Europe Institute and The University of Auckland. This webinar was part of the “France and Beyond conference” that took place online on July 29th 2020.Audio recorded by the Pacific Media Centre with thanks to the editor Professor David Robie. Zoonotic diseases are infections that transfer from animals to people, and include killers such as bubonic plague, malaria, ebola and a whole host of others. Trying to understand how diseases make the leap from animals to humans – so called spillover – and how outbreaks occur is a crucial part of preventing them. But outbreaks are complex and dynamic, with a huge number of factors playing a role: What animal is hosting the disease, the environment in which it lives, the changing climate, human presence and impact on the local area and many other factors. Kate Jones is professor of ecology and biodiversity at University College London, and has been tracking ebola in Africa. Her team has just published a new study that models how and when spillover might happen in the future. On the lushly forest islands of French Polynesia, there lives a very special snail. Partula are around 100 species of tiny snails who give birth to live young and feed on decomposing plants. Each species is uniquely adapted to a particular ecological niche. But in 1967, the highly edible Giant African Land Snail was introduced to the islands as a source of food. They quickly became pests, and in response, the French Polynesian government then introduced carnivorous Rosy Wolf Snails - aka Euglandina rosea - to quell the spread of the introduced Giant Land snails. Reporter Naomi Clements-Brode picks up the story with scientist Ann Clarke, along with Dave Clarke and Paul Pearce-Kelly at ZSL London Zoo. Finally this week, malaria is, as best we can account for it, the single greatest killer in human history. The vast majority of malaria is caused by a type of single celled protozoan called Plasmodium falciparum, carried by mosquitos. But according to new research published this week, it started out around fifty thousand years ago not in us, but as a gorilla disease, and in one particularly unlucky gorilla, two simultaneous infections prompted the mutation and rise of the plasmodium parasite that would go on to kill millions. Dr Gavin Wright from the Wellcome Sanger Institute in Hinxton lead the team behind this molecular archaeology.
Paul Gauguin cruises sail out of Papeete Tahiti around the French Polynesian islands on 7 to 14 night cruising vacations. I travelled on a 7-night Society Islands cruise and spent time exploring what Paul Gauguin have to offer. In this I explore who they are, what they do well in my view, some watch-outs about the line and who I think they are best for and why. Nikki Walsh and Tanner Broadwell bought at $5,000 1969 Columbia 28-foot sailboat to sail around the world. Their trip lasted 2 days. In the end the boat sunk to the bottom of the ocean. They departed Tarpon Springs, Florida. By 9PM on Wednesday, February 7, 2018, their boat was at the bottom of the sea. They were able to save their dog, a dinghy, and their IDs before abandoning ship to a SeaTow. See our video of this at Couple's SAILBOAT Sinks TWO DAYS After Departing When Keel Falls Off | Exclusive Interview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7fLn5DItPw The boat lost its keel when they were motoring 2 miles per hour in the John’s channel off Tampa Bay, Florida. The boat filled with water within 10 minutes as water seeped up from the bottom of the boat and rested on the sea floor in 3-feet of water. The next day the boat turned on its side. Tanner said that someone is offering to give them a new boat, but they have started a $10,000 GoFundMe campaign to pay their salvage expenses and buy a new floating home. They estimate the salvage costs at $6,700 and they have no insurance. The 24-year old woman and 26-year old man lost their life savings. The link to that campaign is below:https://www.gofundme.com/new-sailing-lifeThe 49-year old boat had plenty of electronic and paper charts for the area. It only had a 6-horse power outboard for power, which worked until the boat sunk. It is somewhat common for old sailboats to have keel bolts give way and for the keel to fall off if they are not inspected regularly. Nikki and Tanner learned to sail from Tanner’s dad and by sailing on friends’ boats. They bought SV Lagniappe in Fairhope, Alabama near mobile. Tanner and his Dad sailed the boat to Destin, Florida where Nikki sailed the boat to Panama City, Florida. From Panama City, Florida the three people and one dog sailed the 49-year old boat for 3 and a half days offshore to Tarpon Springs, Florida in June 2017. Nikki and Tanner spent $5,000 fixing up the boat until they departed for Key West, Florida in February. They spent one night at anchor before disaster struck and their beloved sailboat sunk, wrecked, and was a total loss. They used to live in Colorado before living aboard their sailboat in Tarpon Springs. One lesson from this disaster and the wreck of the Tanda Malaika, whose captain Dan Govatos was a guest of the Slow Boat Sailing Podcast, is that entering an unfamiliar harbor at night is a bad idea. More cruisers should heed that rule of thumb.https://adventuresofatribe.com/2017/07/23/mayday/Tanner says she idolizes the crew of the YouTube channels Sailing La Vagabonde and Slow Boat Sailing Podcast guests Sailing SV Delos. Tanner was wearing a Sailing La Vagabonde t-shirt when their boat sunk near Tampa Bay. Subscribe to get season 2 in the crossing the Pacific and sail the Marquesas, Fakarava, and Tahiti. On May 15, 2017, Lewis Bennett told US Coast Guard rescuers that his wife, Isabella Hellman, fell overboard while he slept in the 37-foot sailing catamaran on their honeymoon trip from St. Marteen to Key West. His boat sank 26-miles from Cay Sal Bahamas, and he evacuated into a life raft where the USCG rescued him. They also found rolls of silver coins. Mr. Bennett was convicted of illegally transporting stolen silver and gold coins. On February 20, 2018, the former newlywed husband, Lewis Bennett faced new charges of second degree murder in the death of his wife, Isabella Hellman, the mother of their daughter, a toddler named Emilia. The FBI alleges that Mr. Bennett a UK and Australian citizen scuttled his boat, Surf into Summer. https://youtu.be/0689s-dmK1w SAILING MYSTERY, GHOST BOAT, SEA NYMPH, found in VOR | Exclusive GPS data & USCG survivor debrief https://youtu.be/bK7BM8JsX_M Volvo Ocean Racers spotted a “ghost ship”, a derelict sailboat, 360 miles east of Guam on February 13, 2018, UTC. It was none other than the SV Sea Nymph abandoned by Jennifer Appel and her crew member Tasha Fuiava nearly 3 to 4 months earlier on October 25, 2017. We discuss the latest revelations from this mysterious disaster at sea. We bring you exclusively the interview of the sailors on the doomed sailors who were criticized by the US Coast Guard for not using her EPIRB. The USCG alleges via the AP that they hailed the Sea Nymph on June 15, 2017, near Tahiti. Ms. Appel told the Today Show that they were no where near Tahiti and her handheld GPS proves that. Linus Wilson was given her handheld GPS track history and analyzed it. It only had two days of data, the last two days prior to the rescue. This tale of two women and two dogs where rescued 900 miles southeast of Japan goes on... UNPREPARED TO GO TO SEA | Jungle of MOLD BUGS & MUD | ATUONA - HIVA OA S2E8 Slow Boat Sailing https://youtu.be/R8WhcsHTqUQ Linus finds a jungle of mold on the Slow Boat when he returns after 5 months. He goes to sea unprepared to avoid the bugs, mud, and torrential rains in Hiva Oa in the Marquesas. His sailboat lacks a sail and several things are not tied down as he flees the crowded anchorage of Tahauku Bay near Atuona. Linus has to transport the only potable water one liter at a time in a mad rush to flee the waterlogged French Polynesian island. He also replaces another battery because it became waterlogged. What would it be like to only have three worries in life, weather, water, and food? Really... I can't wrap my mind around it. That's exactly how Ryan and Nicole Levinson live on their tiny dwelling, a 28' sailboat Nioma. I had the opportunity to interview Ryan just before their Pacific crossing to ask them about life on a sailboat, the logistics, and planning involved in the preparation for a Pacific crossing. P.S. This was initially recorded a year ago and I'm happy to report that they made it to Tahiti safe and sound and have been kite surfing and free diving their hearts out along the French Polynesian for months. If you know of someone living an extraordinary life and you think they would make a great guest on Earthy, or would like to give us feedback, please reach out at www.adventure-guru.org! Thanks for listening.
