Character Pairings and the Pressure of Honor. Guest: Professor Emily Wilson. The Iliad features vivid character relationships that function with the depth of a novel. Helen is portrayed as an ironic thinker and a storyteller who weaves the sufferings of the war into her textiles, much like the poet himself. She possesses a unique perspective on her own fate and the limited power mortals have against the whims of gods like Aphrodite. In contrast, Hector and Andromacheform a tragic pairing; Andromache's heartbreaking pleas for her husband to stay within the city walls are met with Hector's refusal, driven by the intense fear of shame and the pursuit of kleos, or undying glory. The royal couple Priamand Hecuba represent different facets of leadership and loss, with Hecuba displaying a maternal rage so fierce she wishes to eat her enemies raw. Divine figures like Thetis, Achilles' mother, add a layer of sympathy as she bargains with Zeus to grant her son glory, knowing his life will be short. However, these divine interventions often result in further horror for the mortals involved. 31789

So good that we are diving in to find out all about it with four of the upcoming performers: Liz Coin, Max Davidson, Brendon Lemon and Kristina Libby. Hello to you listening in Ambler, Pennsylvania! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga. This much I know. I have come to expect too much - of myself, of my plans, of my aspirations. My expectations were giving me heartache. It was time to step away, create some distance between me and my expectations. We are taught to exceed our expectations! And yet when we let go a bit, make room for the possibility that an event, an objective, an outcome might unfold in ways we could not have expected we are inviting a variety of possibilities! If outcomes do not conform to what we expected does that mean we failed? No. Practical Tip: The unforeseen gives us a chance to be flexible, to see something positive in the unexpected outcome. Now we get to adapt. The more we strengthen our adaptability muscle the more resilient we become. The more resilient we become the more capable we are of recognizing that Life is one grand experiment asking us to stay open, alert and optimistic as we set intentions and release expectations. Guaranteed! You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, bring your friends and rellies, and join us! HR has always been at the center of the employee experience, but today's most effective HR leaders are storytellers. They're shaping the narratives that define culture, drive engagement, and align organizations through change, and, in order to do this, they need the right tools and skillset. In this episode, we sit down with Kimberlee Henry, CMO of OrgChart, to explore how HR can step into the role of chief organizational storyteller, from crafting authentic hiring narratives to communicating through layoffs and reorgs with clear visuals and data points.
Writing competitions. Clearly they're not all made the same. Some are free, some are costly, some are actually impossible for mere mortals to enter due to their criteria. The prizes vary too. From small cash prizes, to publishing deals.Today, we're asking the question… on the whole, if you're serious about being a writer… are they actually worth it? Are they worth the money, the - let's face it – likely disappointment, the effort and most importantly of all… the time? And the biggest question of all - are there any quantifiable things you can do to help nudge your entry to the top of the pile?We consider such things as:Where's the best place to send your piece? Maybe a competition isn't the right destination? Maybe it's a literary journal instead? We get some top notch insider insight, from Bath Flash Fiction Award past winner and judge - Kathryn Aldridge-Morris to get the skinny on what works and what doesn't. What will wow the judges, what will make them spit their tea out and what will make them slide you into their shortlist.https://www.kamwords.com Plus we hear from fabulous literary agent Joanna Swainson from Hardman & Swainson, for an agent's eye-view.https://www.hardmanswainson.com Finally, the winner of a competition who we suspect is quite glad she entered DFB & Arvon Search for a Storyteller prize, because it won her a publishing deal with David Fickling Books – Miranda Moore.I can personally recommend her excellent YA book, A Beautiful Terrible Thing.Yes, devastating & emotional, but also joyful & redemptive.https://www.mirandamooreauthor.com And speaking of competitions… look out next week for our BRAND NEW POETRY COMPETITION! We're too good to you. Seriously. We are.Lovely episode art by Katie Rand. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Hello to you listening in Dundalk, Ireland! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. I can't get away from it. The Camino de Santiago keeps tugging at me. I remember two truths from the Camino: you will get blisters and you will get unexpected kindness from strangers. I became intimately familiar with both. As to the blisters: wear proper boots, air out your feet every two hours, keep your socks dry, watch for hot spots. But, as careful as you are you'll likely get blisters - the badge of honor on long treks - so you can trade stories and treatment solutions with other pilgrims, like liberal applications of Vick's Vapo-Rub. Who knew? As to the gifts of kindness, they show up when most needed and least expected: a cold bottle of water, a wooden bench with free fruit and juice, directions from a villager, or encouraging words offered in a time of uncertainty or doubt. Just like magic. Story Prompt: As you walk your life, what are a few of the ups and downs (the kindnesses and boot blisters) that have shaped your life? Write that story and share it out loud! You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, bring your friends and rellies, and join us! Fin and the Unit get sucked into a rap beef that wouldn't put Kendrick Lamar and Drake to shame. As apparently has to be the case, Fin knows one of the rappers in question, going way back to his childhood with "Snake" Anderson. SVU brings in a big gun in Snoop Dogg and recognizable other talent of color in Orlando Jones and Amber Stevens West, but this is Season 20 SVU, so hoping that any of these three actors' talent was put to good use would be foolish. Little makes sense in this week's episode, and Fin probably commits a felony. But this is essentially the gas leak season of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, so we're probably all meant to just move along as though nothing happened.Music:Divorcio Suave - “Munchy Business”Thanks to our gracious Munchies on Patreon: Jeremy S, Jaclyn O, Amy Z, Tony B, Drew D, Nicky R, Stuart, Jacqi B, Natalie T, Robyn S, Sean M, Jay S, Briley O, Suzanne B, Tim Y, John P, John W, Elia S, Lily, Sarah L, Melsa A, Alyssa C, Johnathon M, Tiffany C, Brian B, Whitney C, Alex, Jannicke HS, Erin M, Melissa H, Olivia, Holly F, Karina H, Zak B, Karyn R, Summer S, Matt, Elyse R, Julia K, Los C, and Katrina S - y'all are the best!Be a Munchie, too! Hello to you listening in Flushing, Queens, New York! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga. Maybe like me you stop and wonder: who am I right now, how do I describe myself, what nourishes me? It's scary, isn't it, not to have the answers. Perhaps there is great wisdom in resting there, not resisting, not pushing back, but trusting that the answer will come in due time. The poet Derek Walcott knows that while we may have forgotten who we are, who we are has not forgotten us. His poem, Love After Love, suggests a great joy in coming face-to-face with the one who knows us by heart: Love After Love “The time will come when, with elation you will greet yourself arriving at your own door, in your own mirror and each will smile at the other's welcome, and say, sit here. Eat. You will love again the stranger who was your self. Give wine. Give bread. Give back your heart to itself, to the stranger who has loved you all your life, whom you ignored for another, who knows you by heart. Take down the love letters from the bookshelf, the photographs, the desperate notes, peel your own image from the mirror. Sit. Feast on your life.” [- by Derek Walcott] And thank you, for listening. You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, bring your friends and rellies, and join us! In this episode of the Story Engine Podcast, I sit down with Carolee Moore, an expert storyteller who helps corporate leaders and subject matter experts find their voice, get on the right podcasts, and turn their visibility into real business growth. What stood out to me most is how Carolee doesn't just focus on booking interviews—she helps people reconnect with their authentic voice after years of operating inside corporate expectations. We explore how storytelling, when done right, becomes the bridge between deep expertise and real influence. Carolee shares her journey from growing up in Jamaica surrounded by storytelling, to navigating corporate America, to building (and walking away from) a successful marketing agency that no longer aligned with her. We also dive into how podcast guesting can fast-track credibility in B2B spaces, why so many experts struggle with visibility despite their experience, and how finding your voice can literally "change the vote" in the rooms that matter most. If you've ever felt unseen, under-recognized, or stuck playing small—this conversation will show you a new path forward. 00:49 – From Jamaica to the U.S.: The Roots of a Storyteller 02:09 – Corporate Life, Structure, and Suppressed Creativity 03:30 – Building (and Closing) a Multi-Six-Figure Agency 04:24 – The Pivot: From Marketing to Podcast Guesting 05:31 – The Types of Experts She Works With 07:41 – Why Podcasting Works for High-Level Experts 09:00 – Turning Stories Into Credibility and Sales 11:14 – The Hidden Struggles of High-Achieving Experts 12:46 – Watching Less Experienced People Win (and Why It Hurts) 14:08 – The Real Transformation: Finding Your Authentic Voice 16:46 – Integrating Visibility With Sales and Business Strategy 17:23 – The Boardroom Moment That Changed Everything 19:00 – Speaking Up and Changing the Vote 20:58 – Learning to Own Your Voice 21:39 – Underpricing and Positioning Lessons as an Agency Owner 22:46 – A Major Win: Earning a Year's Salary in One Day 23:30 – Learning to Celebrate and Step Away 24:44 – The Story Reflection: From Silence to Impact

Most podcasts have an Authority Gap. Their content is good. Their expertise is real. But their message isn't landing. Does that sound familiar? The problem is that their positioning isn't clear. And, their podcast isn't creating the influence, opportunities, and clients it should. That's why I created the Podcast Authority Audit. The Audit is designed to uncover what's holding your podcast back from becoming the authority engine it was meant to be. We'll identify: • Where your authority is leaking • Why your message isn't creating action • What's preventing listeners from becoming clients • How to become the obvious choice in your niche Let me audit your podcast and find the gaps. Go to www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/coaching, click the button and apply to have a chat with me. We will uncover your authority positioning problem, develop your plan to succeed, and see how I can help and support you to achieve your podcast goals. Get your Podcast Authority Audit at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com/coaching. Next Week: Next week on the show, we'll talk with Jedlie, host of the Reading With Your Kids podcast. He will show you how he has leveraged borrowed trust over 2,400 episodes to build trust and grow his business and impact.
Hello to you listening in Charlottesville, Virginia! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga. Here's the thing: I've hit The Dip. That place in most creative endeavors where you look around and wonder: Does anybody care? Does my work matter? What am I doing and for whom? Believe it or not, The Dip is a precious time. Now you get to dig deep and consider what's it for, who's it for, where is it needed? Not everyone wants or needs what you have to offer; but someone does! Lots of someones. Some years ago I was working as a shepherd at a fiber farm on the outskirts of Charlottesville, Virginia. Our neighbor raised organic goats for meat. Joe sold the meat to customers from the D.C Beltway area who knew a good thing and were happy to pay for it. But Joe wanted more. He was ready to venture out and teach people about the value of eating what he raised: organic food, sustainable, humanely harvested, no junk, and lots of pasture to graze. But where to go? He fixes up an old school bus as a traveling kitchen and visits each and every state and local fair in Virginia. Why? People go to fairs to eat food! But not his food. Fairs offer a lot of cheap fried food: onion blossoms, corn dogs, curly cut fries. Joe is offering 3 items: organic goat kabobs, organic goat curry and an organic goat skillet burger with all the fixins. While his prices are in keeping with what he's trying to sell, they are several times more than the competition at the fair. The food is foreign. No one will eat it except on a dare. Now what? Instead of lowering his prices or changing venues Joe decides to dig in and work on changing attitudes and appetites. At each fairgrounds he stands outside the mobile kitchen and shares his story: why goats, where they are pastured, who takes care of them, how they live, what makes this meat special, and why it's worth it. He prints up a flyer with his story and hands that out, too. Person by person the story draws them in, the goat meat dinners keep them there. It took time but he believed in what he was doing and for whom he was doing it. If this is you here's a tip from Joe: “Some will. Some won't. Who's next?” As I repeat Joe's words I'm working my way out of The Dip. “Come for the stories; stay for the magic!” CTA: If you want the story that will change minds, attitudes, behaviors, let's work together. Many writers assume that Christian stories are defined by clean content, religious themes, or explicit references to faith. But a Christian worldview is not a genre. In this episode of The Storyteller's Mission, Zena Dell Lowe explains why many faith-based stories feel preachy, emotionally shallow, or dramatically ineffective despite their good intentions. More importantly, she reveals how writers can create stories that communicate biblical truth at a deep structural level without relying on overt religious content.Through examples from Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters, and modern storytelling trends, you'll discover the difference between worldview and genre, truth and signaling, and why some secular stories often resonate more deeply than many faith-based films.Topics Covered:• Christian worldview vs Christian genre • Why faith-based films often struggle • Storytelling and moral truth • Die Hard and biblical morality • Lethal Weapon as moral storytelling • Principles vs rules in story • The problem with preachy writing • Writing stories that resonate • Biblical worldview in screenwriting • Christian storytelling and cultureCHAPTERS00:00 A Secular Story Can Tell More Truth 01:12 What People Mean by "Christian Film" 02:00 Why Die Hard Matters 03:00 Principles vs Rules 05:30 Compassion vs Justice 06:30 What a Worldview Really Is 07:10 Genre vs Worldview 08:20 The Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters Example 10:30 Why Nuance Matters 11:10 Secular Stories and Biblical Truth 11:25 Lethal Weapon vs Modern Storytelling 12:40 The Postmodern Worldview Shift 14:00 What Writing a Christian Worldview Actually Means 15:25 Stop Trying to Write Christian Stories 15:50 Why the Faith-Based Industry Struggles 17:35 What This Means for Writers 19:45 We Need More Truthful StoriesWatch this episode on YouTubeFree Resources for Writers:Seven Deadly Plot Points FREE TRAINING VIDEO Free Video Tutorial for ScreenwritingSign up for The Storyteller's Digest, my exclusive bi-monthly newsletter for writers and storytellers. Hello to you listening in Schaumburg, Illinois! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. One summer afternoon Nasruddin was relaxing under a massive walnut tree. He looks up at the tiny walnuts hanging above him and then to a nearby garden patch of ripe watermelons growing on small vines. Nasruddin looks up to the sky and says, “Lord, your creation is wonderful, but sometimes illogical. Why would you hang tiny nuts on a giant tree, and huge melons on a thin, frail vine?" Just then, a walnut falls from the branches and hits him squarely on the head. Nasruddin says, “Forgive my desire to be right. If you had hung watermelons on this tree, I would be dead!" Maybe like me you've had practice with being a know-it-all, all the time. Let's face it: the need to be right is exhausting! So, why do we cling to being right? Culture, schooling, religion, family, and community all play a part in teaching us that being right is all about being perfect and perfect is desirable. But what has perfect ever done for you? Over time I've come face-to-face with this: I don't really know as much as I think I do. I concede to watermelons on the ground and walnuts in a tree. Story Prompt: Think of a time when you were okay to let go of the need to be right, to know it all, have it all, and be it all. What happened next? Write that story and share it out loud! You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, bring your friends and rellies, and join us! Today is our final episode of this season! Thank you so much for staying with us, listening to us, sharing your words of encouragement with me, and spreading the word about our show. For two years now, I have been asking every guest who comes on the podcast two questions: What gives you hope? And which place are you going to next?I started asking the hope question because I needed to find that hope myself. And boy did our guests deliver! So I thought it would be a beautiful way to close out this season with a collective, crowdsourced answer to that question. What gives you hope?We also asked our community members to send in their answers to these two questions. Thank you to everyone who participated: Carrie, Siham, Alice, Maxim, and Ami!18 guests. 5 of our community members. The answer is in this episode. We are an audience-supported platform. Hello to you listening in Bridgeport, Connecticut! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories from Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Wednesdays on Whidbey and your host, Diane Wyzga. On my Camino pilgrimage I received a small paper star from someone I did not know to carry with me as a blessing, to remember that someone was watching over me as I walked. In turn, I'm sharing some blessings with you as you walk in your day: BLESSING FOR YOU May you eat an unfamiliar dessert in a foreign land at least once in your life. May you wake up to salsa music one summer morning, and start your day dancing. May you mix stripes with plaids, floral patterns with checks, mismatch your socks, and add a floppy hat. May you be greeted by 20 flowers, 15 trees, 10 clouds and at least 1 extra-solar planet. If you bury your face in your tear-stained pillow and beg the Universe to please send you your soul mate, make sure you haven't slurred your teary words so they sound like "cell mate." May you dream of taking a trip to the moon in a gondola powered by firecrackers and wild swans. May you actually kneel and kiss the earth now and again. There isn't a question that Steve Sparks is one of our favorite former guests, and now he's BACK for more laughs. The knuckleballer turned broadcaster remains one of Tim's favorite storytellers in the game today. He kicks things off with an impression, and yes, it's fantastic. Plus, he shares a hilarious Richie Sexson story that you'll be talking about long after the episode ends. Ever wanted to win a car? So did one former player, who was VERY disappointed after an All Star Game. We also show some love to our friends at GameChanger. We're grateful for their support of the show. And there's plenty of appreciation for the late, great Stan Musial, including a story about a couple of kids who had absolutely no idea who he was. We wrap things up with Pete Rose and Bob Feller. That's a pretty strong finish, right? A huge thank you to Steve for taking time out of his busy schedule to join our little show. Most importantly, thank you for being a part of our family! If you were expecting a nuanced take on the damage that prisons cause to those inside coming from in "Escape" (S5E11), you might be disappointed. In this SVU, two cons (Stephen Lang and Michael K. Williams) buy their way out of the joint, galavant around the town in drag, and take Olivia Benson to the Jersey Shore. We meet one of Liv's former paramours, decide whether or not unfortunate early '00s fashion choices were the result of America's imperialist adventures overseas, and listen as Adam summons an ancient one.Music:Divorcio Suave - “Munchy Business”Thanks to our gracious Munchies on Patreon: Jeremy S, Jaclyn O, Amy Z, Tony B, Drew D, Nicky R, Stuart, Jacqi B, Natalie T, Robyn S, Sean M, Jay S, Briley O, Suzanne B, Tim Y, John P, John W, Elia S, Lily, Sarah L, Melsa A, Alyssa C, Johnathon M, Tiffany C, Brian B, Whitney C, Alex, Jannicke HS, Erin M, Melissa H, Olivia, Holly F, Karina H, Zak B, Karyn R, Summer S, Matt, and Elyse R - y'all are the best!Be a Munchie, too! Hello to you listening in Kyle, Canada! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday & your host, Diane Wyzga. A few years ago Paul King, writing from somewhere in America, wished for a Solidarity Saturday, and I created a podcast episode. Reading it anew my pulse went all fizzy with a plan to re-establish this simple collective action. I'd like to see every Saturday be "Solidarity Saturday." Each Saturday, at 10am in every time zone on earth, we all do a very simple act: Step outside our homes into the open and stand in silence for 10 minutes. Just show ourselves. Stand with neighbors. Come out and be seen together, our presence a protest. All over earth on every Saturday as each time zone hits 10am. Billions of us just stepping outside, showing ourselves, showing evil that we oppose it! Just walk out the door into the open. Not hard. CTA: Right Here. Right Now. Spread the good word like grape jelly on a toddler! Invite your friends and rellies all over the world to step outside and stand together at 10am in your time zone 10 minutes on each Solidarity Saturday. Let me know, from where will you be joining us? You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, bring your friends and rellies, and join us! Storyteller and librarian Roslyn Quin joins Liz and Ben to discover there’s nowt as queer as folklore, as we discuss Terry Pratchett’s 2008 (and 2009 and 2014) collaboration with folklorist Jacqueline Simpson, The Folklore of Discworld. Wherever there are folk, you’ll find folklore: the stories, traditions, superstitions and more that tell people who they are, and make up their world. The curious thing is, the folklore of a flat world swimming through space on the back of a giant turtle turns out to have a considerable amount in common with that of a round world orbiting a star… The Folklore of Discworld is part a greatest hits collection of Terry’s imagination, and part a summary of the Roundworld lore that inspired or at least resembles its Discworld counterparts. Like The Science of Discworld books it’s a collaboration with an expert in the field – in this case, Dr Jacqueline Simpson of the Folklore Society. Unlike those books, however, there’s no neat division into fiction and non-fiction chapters, with the whole thing written in one voice. It both assumes a fair amount of interest in the Discworld, but also repeats lots of lore about creatures, people and places that fans will probably know, so it’s the discussion and the comparison to Roundworld – and especially British – folklore that makes it shine. What are your favourite bits of folklore here, whether from the Disc or from Roundworld? Do you feel like this has Pratchett’s voice, or is it mostly Simpson’s? Was there enough detail, or were you yearning for more? Which of the versions did you read? And what folklore would you love to see included if it was ever revised again? Join our online conversation via email or by incanting the magic phrase #Pratchat93 on the social media platform of your choice (assuming it’s one where we are). Guest Roslyn Quin (she/they) is a storyteller, librarian, puppeteer, actor, clown and artist who began her performance career with the 2012 solo storytelling show The Red Bird and Death. Since then she’s performed as part of festivals, cabaret and burlesque nights, on podcasts (including the hit Australian audio comedy Love and Luck), and wherever two or more are gathered together and ready to hear a tale. These days you’ll mostly find Ros telling stories to children of all ages at Yarra Plenty Regional Libraries. As mentioned in the episode, she’ll also be telling stories at 6, 7 and 8 PM on Friday 3 July for Melbourne’s free Firelight Festival at Docklands Park! You can also find out more about Ros at roslynquin.com. You can find episode notes and errata on our web site. Next month it’s back to the pixels one more time, as we try and solve three missing persons cases at once in Perfect Entertainment’s third and final Discworld adventure game, Discworld Noir! Send us your questions via email (chat@pratchatpodcast.com), use the hashtag #Pratchat94 on social media, or just turn up at our office acting mysterious. That always works. Want to help us get to the end of our six(ish) year mission and read every Pratchett book – and more? You can support us with a tip, or a subscription for as little as $2 a month, and that's cuttin' our own throats! See our Support Us page for details.

Welcome to episode #1039 of Thinking With Mitch Joel (formerly Six Pixels of Separation). I believe that communication has always been one of the most valuable skills in business. But in an era of AI-generated content, algorithmic feeds, podcasts, newsletters, keynote stages, short-form video and endless digital noise, it may be becoming even more important. Few people have spent more time studying what makes ideas resonate than Carmine Gallo. A communication coach, author, and instructor in executive education at Harvard, Carmine is best known for bestselling books including Talk Like TED, The Storyteller's Secret, The Presentation Secrets of Steve Jobs and many more. His latest project, Viral Voices - From TED Talks To TikTok, Persuasive Communication Skills For The Digital Age, is an audio-original experience that explores what great communicators can teach us about influence, storytelling, and audience engagement in a rapidly changing media landscape. In this conversation, Carmine argues that while the tools of communication have evolved dramatically, the human brain has not. Drawing on research from neuroscience, psychology, evolutionary biology, and his conversations with communicators ranging from business leaders to digital creators, he explains why storytelling remains one of humanity's most powerful technologies. The discussion explores why movement captures attention, why narrative structures continue to dominate modern platforms, and why great communicators are made through deliberate practice rather than born with natural talent. Carmine also shares his AMP framework for communication improvement: Ability, Message, and Practice. Along the way, the conversation examines the opportunities and challenges created by AI, including the growing tension between polished machine-generated content and authentic human expression. At a moment when everyone has access to powerful communication tools, Carmine makes a compelling case that imagination, personal experience, and genuine human insight are becoming the ultimate differentiators. Enjoy the conversation… Running time: 1:00:47. Hello from beautiful Montreal. Listen and subscribe over at Apple Podcasts. Listen and subscribe over at Spotify. Allison Robicelli, our old friend, whom longtime listeners will remember from our Shelter en Place movie conversations, returns to the pod for a long overdue biographical conversation. In addition to weaving tales of growing up in 1980s outer-borough New York City, we get into Allison's singular travel tips, the joys of Baltimore, and just about anything else she and Andrew could think of. If you are an aspiring chef younger than 30, or think you might know of one who'd thrive in this program, please check out S.Pellegrino's Young Chef Academy Competition, or go directly to the application. Andrew has interviewed many past competitors and observed several competitions, and personally recommends applying. Our great thanks to our presenting sponsor, meez, the recipe-operating system for culinary professionals. And thanks to S.Pellegrino for their longstanding support of the pod. THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:Andrew is a writer by trade. If you'd like to support him, there's no better way than by purchasing his most recent book, The Dish: The Lives and Labor Behind One Plate of Food (October 2023), about all the key people (in the restaurant, on farms, in delivery trucks, etc.) whose stories and work come together in a single restaurant dish. We'd love if you followed us on Instagram. Please also follow Andrew's real-time journal of the travel, research, writing, and production of/for his next book The Opening (working title), which will track four restaurants in different parts of the U.S. from inception to launch. For Andrew's writing, dining, and personal adventures, follow along at his personal feed.Thank you for listening—please don't hesitate to reach out with any feedback and/or suggestions!
