This week, Kate talks about Winnipeg Fever in Haliburton County. In the 1870's and 1890's many local settlers found that trying to farm in the area was difficult with thin top soil that wore out quickly. Once the railroad came to Haliburton people had more mobility and an exodus started for greener pastures and land grants out west. Plus, WW1 was a new experience for Canadians on the home front who didn't know how to deal with their fears and anxiety including rumours of imminent attacks and sabotage by American-German agents from the US. And then there was the implications of that new invention - the airplane - that could allow the enemy to launch bombing attacks into Canada. Kate Butler is the Director of the Haliburton Highlands Museum. Paul Vorvis is the host of the Your Haliburton Morning Show 7 - 9 a.m. Fridays on Canoe FM 100.9 and streaming on your devices. Haliburton County is in cottage country about 2 1/2 hours north of Toronto. You can contact us at timewarp@canoefm.com
In this week's episode, we take a closer look at "There Are Mornings" by Liesl Mueller. A poem filled with undertones of threatened endings, but one that holds a burning ember of hope at its core that resonates deeply with readersLiesl Mueller, an American-German poet born in 1924, brings a rich mythological context to her work. "There Are Mornings" intertwines mythological and biblical imagery with the ordinary, creating a compelling narrative that balances inner turmoil with quiet resilience. The poem's structure reflects a journey from a state of dire strife to an affirmation of enduring through the mundane.Learn more about he poet herself: Forced to flee Nazi Germany in 1939 due to her father's anti-fascist views, Mueller's early experiences undoubtedly influenced her poetic voice, which emerged in her thirties after the death of her mother. Join me as we explore the layers of metaphor and myth within this poem, discuss Mueller's masterful use of language, and consider the dual interpretations of its powerful imagery. Welcome to Phantoms & Monsters 'Personal Reports' - cryptid & unexplained accounts directly from the archives of Phantoms & Monsters, and the Phantoms & Monster Fortean Research team. Narrated by Lon Strickler. Join us in the chat, discuss, and ask me questions about the accounts. Featured in this edition: I have investigated winged humanoid sightings since 1981 when I first included cryptid creatures as a part of my paranormal research. In 1988, I had a personal unexplained encounter with a winged humanoid in south-central Pennsylvania. Since the beginning of the millennium, a specific term has surfaced as part of the description of several of the sightings; ‘Jeepers Creepers.' If you are familiar with modern horror films, then you'll have an idea of what I'm talking about. In 2001, an American-German horror film, that took its name from the 1938 song ‘Jeepers Creepers,' was released. It was a tale about two older siblings who become the targets of a demonic creature, known as the ‘Creeper,' in rural Florida. The fact that several witnesses have compared the winged being that they encountered as resembling the Creeper is interesting. I suppose it is a cultural phenomenon; basically, because there are few other creatures, natural or fictional, to compare to. A few of the Chicago Mothman witnesses mentioned the Creeper character when giving a general description, though the eventual comparison came down to the bat-like wing structure and the ability to instantly launch itself into flight. During the same period that we were receiving reports in the Chicago area, we were also receiving accounts of similar winged beings in other locations throughout the United States and Canada. Most of the sightings were very brief and without much detail, but a few specific reports compounded our curiosity. Hi. My name is Lon Strickler. I hope that you enjoy listening to Phantoms & Monsters Personal Reports. I have a question for you. Have you ever had an unexplained sighting or encounter? I am back from a wonderful holiday with a couple of my daughters, and ready to move on with the podcast stories. Maybe you saw my photos and reels, of all the fun we had. While I was away, it dawned on me, it's been 4 years since, I have left Germany to travel. As a family, and on my own, we had always travelled around Europe, to the UK, to the States and we even went once to Guatemala. Spending time in other countries, and meeting new people, makes such a difference. It gives us a fresh perspective on our own lives. Not only have these past few years been intense for the whole world, but also for me, in other personal ways. A popular song says it all; “You know it's not the same as it was in this world, as it was, as was.“ The changes I experienced, opened up a door for me, to join the podcast world. It was a chance to tell my story, based on by German autobiography, but this time in my own language. It has been refreshing, challenging, and even resulted in new friends and renewed contact with old friends. Most importantly, it has given me the opportunity to freely speak my mind, which is in itself unique. From my experience over the years, this is not something to be taken for granted. On my vacation I sat by the pool listening, and watching the wind, in the palm trees. I was wondering what kind of influence this time away, would have on my writing. A priceless moment, was watching my young granddaughter happily swimming, to the music of her auntie. So there we were three generations, on a Spanish island, relaxing by the pool and listening to a song called, ”Like Me” that Debby had written. My blond granddaughter, floated on her air mattress, singing along to the chorus; “Where are people like me, like me, like me. Like Ariel, under the sea, that's me, I swim but on the inside, I still try to walk like all the others. So where are people like me, like me” That image reminds me of the phrase, ”like a fish out of water.” It lands on the dry sand, forced to learn a new way of breathing, of talking and existing in different world. That fish, or mermaid, needs a miracle to stay alive and flourish. That's kind of how it is acclimating yourself, to life in a different country. I was actually surprised that my daughter Debby, who was born and raised in Munich, wrote a song about feeling like an outsider. Of course all my five daughters have grown up in Germany. They had the advantage of having a German dad, going to public school and gradually becoming integrated, into the German culture through their jobs. Now I am wondering how this American - German heritage will affect my grandchildren.
On this day in history, August 25, 1921, the U.S.–German Peace Treaty was signed in Berlin, marking a significant moment in the aftermath of World War I. The treaty was necessitated by the U.S. Senate's refusal to ratify the multilateral peace treaty signed in Versailles, leading to a separate peace agreement with Germany. The U.S. had declared war on Germany on April 6, 1917, and was part of the Allied Powers that defeated the German Empire. The end of the war saw the overthrow of the German monarchy and the establishment of a republic. Spoiler alert for those that haven't read the next chapter in the metaphorical history book yet, that would not go well. The U.S. Senate's objections to the Versailles Treaty were largely due to its provisions regarding the League of Nations. As a result, the U.S. and Germany began negotiations for a bilateral peace treaty, culminating in the signing of the treaty on August 25, 1921. The treaty became effective on November 11, 1921, after ratifications were exchanged in Berlin. It laid the foundations for American-German cooperation outside the strict supervision of the League of Nations, partially assisting the Weimar Republic in easing the burden of war reparations. Diplomatic relations were reestablished, and a supplementary treaty was signed in 1922 to decide the amount of reparations to be paid by Germany to the U.S. The signing of the treaty also led to the retirement of the Morgan silver dollar in favor of the new Peace dollar design, symbolizing a new era of peace and cooperation–in aspirations if not in reality. Treaty between the United States and Germany restoring friendly relations, signed at Berlin August 25, 1921The Biden administration is collaborating with Texas to restore Medicaid coverage to approximately 90,000 individuals who had lost it erroneously, according to senior officials from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). The officials are working with the state's Medicaid agency to reinstate coverage back to the date when it was terminated. The restoration is expected to be completed by the end of the month. This move follows a letter from Democratic House members from Texas, urging the CMS to investigate reported problems at the Texas Medicaid agency. A whistleblower letter had alleged system failures leading to incorrect coverage terminations, affecting thousands of pregnant women and seniors. The Texas Democrats accused the state of not complying with federal Medicaid requirements and called for CMS intervention. Nearly 600,000 Texans have already lost Medicaid coverage in recent months, mostly due to procedural reasons. Legislators have warned of further "catastrophic coverage losses" as Texas sends renewal notices to more enrollees. Rep. Lloyd Doggett emphasized the need for swift federal action to prevent interruptions in care for disadvantaged families.HHS Moves to Restore Medicaid Coverage to 90,000 in Texas (1)JPMorgan Chase & Co. has won a federal appeals court ruling that a $1.8 billion leveraged loan was not a security, marking a significant victory for the banking and private equity sectors. The ruling came in a securities fraud lawsuit related to a 2014 syndicated loan deal led by JPMorgan for drug-testing company Millennium Health, which later filed for bankruptcy. Currently, loan notes are not considered securities, so a ruling against JPMorgan could have had broad implications for the regulation of the leveraged loan market. If classified as securities, loans would require additional disclosures, more financial data, and quicker settlement of trades. The decision is seen as favorable for banks and private equity firms, which frequently use leveraged loans in buyout deals. Advocates for reclassifying leveraged loans have argued that it would bring transparency to an opaque part of the financial markets. The appeals court agreed with a lower court's dismissal of the plaintiff's fraud claims, finding that the notes were not securities. The Securities and Exchange Commission declined to offer its opinion on the matter, despite heavy lobbying from the Loan Syndications and Trading Association. The trustee had claimed that JPMorgan and other banks withheld crucial information about Millennium's troubles. The appeals court found that the notes did not meet three of the four factors required to be considered a security under U.S. law.The test to determine whether a financial instrument is considered a security under U.S. law comes from the Supreme Court case of SEC v. W. J. Howey Co., 328 U.S. 293 (1946). This test is commonly referred to as the Howey Test, and it has four factors that must be considered:* Investment of Money: There must be an investment of money or other tangible or definable consideration.* Common Enterprise: The investment must be in a common enterprise, meaning that the fortunes of the investor are interwoven with those of either the promoter or a third party.* Expectation of Profits: There must be an expectation of profits from the investment. This could include capital appreciation resulting from the development of the initial investment or a participation in earnings.* Efforts of Others: The profits must come solely from the efforts of others, typically the promoter or third party, not the investor. This element emphasizes that the investor must be a passive participant in the business.Subsequent cases, such as United Housing Foundation, Inc. v. Forman, 421 U.S. 837 (1975), have further clarified the Howey Test, specifically focusing on the economic realities of the scheme and noting that the form should be disregarded for the substance. Moreover, other cases such as Reves v. Ernst & Young, 494 U.S. 56 (1990), introduced a "family resemblance test" which helps in differentiating notes that are securities from those that are not.The Howey Test remains a fundamental standard in securities law, providing a broad and flexible framework to accommodate the evolving nature of investment schemes.JPMorgan Wins Ruling That Leveraged Loans Are Not Securities (2)Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has lost a bid to force Google and YouTube to restore videos in which he questioned the safety of Covid-19 vaccines. Kennedy, who is seeking to be the Democratic Party's 2024 presidential nominee, alleged that YouTube violated his First Amendment right to political speech when it removed the videos due to its medical and vaccine misinformation policies. The U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California stated that the suit is likely to fail because Google and YouTube are not state actors subject to the free speech clause of the First Amendment. Judge Trina L. Thompson denied Kennedy's motion for a temporary restraining order that would prevent the tech companies from keeping the videos off their platform. The judge ruled that emails between government officials and Google personnel about vaccine misinformation were not enough to show that YouTube's decisions were state decisions or evidence of a conspiracy to censor speech. There was no evidence that government officials demanded that Google adopt a Covid-19 misinformation policy, nor that they communicated with Google regarding Kennedy specifically. The evidence showed that communications between government officials and Google were merely "consultation and information sharing." The case is scheduled for a hearing on November 7 regarding Kennedy's motion for a preliminary injunction and the companies' motion to dismiss.RFK Jr. Loses Bid to Force YouTube to Re-Post Anti-Vax VideosStarbucks Corp. is on the verge of defeating a National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) attempt to obtain a temporary injunction from a New York federal court. US District Judge John Sinatra ruled that the NLRB's move to block the court's discovery order in the case is "repugnant" and necessitates the dismissal of the agency's injunction petition. The NLRB has until September 1 to avoid dismissal by ceasing efforts to obstruct the discovery order. This ruling is a significant victory for Starbucks' aggressive discovery strategy in response to the NLRB's attempts to quickly obtain court orders. The NLRB has authorized its General Counsel, Jennifer Abruzzo, to sue Starbucks 10 separate times for 10(j) injunctions. The NLRB has won two cases and obtained an interim settlement in a third, while Sinatra's decision could mark the second loss for the agency. Three cases are ongoing, and one authorized petition hasn't been filed yet. Abruzzo plans to challenge Sinatra's ruling at the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Starbucks Workers United criticized the decision, while a Starbucks spokesperson said the ruling made clear that the NLRB "crossed the line." The injunction case has lasted over 400 days, mainly due to discovery disputes, with Sinatra permitting Starbucks to issue nearly 22 subpoenas for various information related to union activities.Starbucks on Verge of Beating NLRB Injunction Bid in N.Y. (1)Former U.S. President Donald Trump was booked at an Atlanta jail on more than a dozen felony charges related to his attempts to overturn his 2020 election defeat in Georgia. Though his mugshot was released, the focus of the case is on the wide-ranging criminal charges he faces. Trump spent only about 20 minutes at the jail before returning to his New Jersey golf club, maintaining that the prosecution is politically motivated. Judge Scott McAfee set a trial date of October 23 for one of Trump's 18 co-defendants, but the schedule does not yet apply to Trump or the other defendants. Trump faces 13 felony counts in the Georgia case, including racketeering, for pressuring state officials to reverse his election loss. Trump's legal team is expected to push for a later trial start date. In total, Trump faces 91 criminal counts across four cases. He has pleaded not guilty in the three other cases and denied wrongdoing. In the Georgia case, arraignments are requested to begin the week of September 5. Trump agreed to post a $200,000 bond and accepted bail conditions that would bar him from threatening witnesses or his co-defendants in the Georgia case. Republicans who control the U.S. House of Representatives announced they would investigate whether the prosecutor improperly coordinated with federal prosecutors.Trump's mug shot released after booking at Georgia jail on election charges | Reuters Get full access to Minimum Competence - Daily Legal News Podcast at www.minimumcomp.com/subscribe

Every major democracy in the world right now is experiencing some kind of teething problems. From rising inflation to some very deep soul searching in a post-pandemic world, issues that are interconnected that look increasingly intractable. But all of these challenges are what make democracy such an exciting project to live in – it's ours alone to craft. Within this tug of war, new ideas and concepts arise. Enter renowned American-German political scientist Yascha Mounk, a passionate defender of the liberal order, his work documents the bitter challenges we face as citizens of our democracies but also the enormous opportunities we inherit if we pull together. In his latest work, The Great Experiment, he has put together a rallying thesis outlining a bold vision, one that requires a macro overview, he is 'pessimistic about our political discourse, and anxious about a civil war of the elites, but insists that progress in the heart of society are reasonably good.' An Associate Professor of International Affairs at Johns Hopkins University in Washington D.C., a contributing editor at The Atlantic, a senior fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations, and the founder of Persuasion. Mounk is Someone who can distil even the most complex of problems we face in a straightforward way. As Yascha and I get into the weeds of these problems, Russia makes a renewed advance into Ukraine, aiming to disrupt the calm which we have all fought so hard to preserve. Hitting The Bridge - what's that even supposed to mean? As this German idiom suggests, our brand new podcast is all about making a connection between German language, culture and identity. If you've ever wondered why Germans are the way they are, tune in to our monthly conversations where we cover topics on mentality, language, values and opinions that shape life in Germany. Who are we? Just a couple American-German friends excited to share our personal observations. Music // Intro:
During my High School and Undergraduate days, I had the opportunity to manage an American/German fusion restaurant... It was a Wienerschnitzel on Mesa Drive in El Paso. And while I learned to balance work, school, and play, one thing I don't think I could have done was run my OWN business. My guest today not only had the drive to make that time-investment, he would go on to sell that business years later to the tune of millions of dollars. Dave Berkus got his start in the record industry. As a young kid interested in Hi-Fi audio, he would eventually purchase the equipment to record and produce records. First for local choirs and events, and eventually, Hollywood. He has become one of the largest angel investors in Silicon Valley, and his Berkus Method for evaluating where investors should spend their money is one of the most tried and true formulas for success. Dave and I discuss what leadership looks like as you move through different careers, why it's important to celebrate other's wins, and why sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself. The Faction Election War Won (28) (Audio) Trump and Tribulation Andrew Gelinas - 1/7/21 (David’s notes in red) I think it was 1.7.21 that I woke up at around four in the morning for no apparent reason. As I lay there trying to get myself to fall back to sleep, because I was now wide awake, out of nowhere I heard the very distinct bark of an aquatic seal as clear as if it were right there in the room. It reverberated as if it was coming from a wide open and endless space like heaven. I noted in my mind right away that the duration of the seal's bark sounded as if it had bean broken in half or cut short. (I just got a confirmation while typing this up, a man on a podcast just said the words "this breaks the seal") I don't know why it didn't occur to me right away, but it wasn't until later that morning that I remembered what happened and I instantly understood it to represent the first seal of Revelation being broken. The rider on the white horse, The Man-child! (Jesus breaks the first seal that brings the White Horse Rider judgment. He is Jesus by Word and Spirit in the Man-child body as we will see. Rev 6:1-2 And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying as with a voice of thunder, Come. 2 And I saw, and behold, a white horse, and he that sat thereon had a bow; and there was given unto him a crown: and he came forth conquering, and to conquer. All of the horses in the seals represent bodies of peoples who are directed by their riders who are spirits. The Spirit of Jesus will direct the Man-child body to bring the Word that causes both blessing and judgment.) White Horse Rider Timothy Dixon - 2/20/21 (David’s notes in red) I saw a piece in a dream. I want to share this little piece of why I mentioned July 4. I saw something happen July 4 that was just crazy. I saw an Independence Day being rejoiced all over the world. (This day was Freedom from the British overlords as a type of Freedom from the DS criminal overlords.). Hallelujah. I saw a rejoicing. And what could that mean? I’m still praying on that one. But there’s a little bit that’s just fresh off the Holy Ghost. I saw the 4th of July, but then I looked down in this dream and I saw a horse starting to ride. I saw a white horse and it was coming. (He doesn't say how long after the 4th of July the white horse comes but it appears to be close. The white horse rider that he saw coming begins the tribulation in Rev 6:1,2. It could even be the Feast of Trumpets, i.e. the first trump of the tribulation. Trumpets begins the evening of 9/21/2021 and is seven days, representing Daniels 70th week of the tribulation in which each day is a year. Eze 45:25. Does this mean the Man-child will not come until the tribulation? Not at all. We have been shown and spoken it that the man-child comes just before the tribulation but the white horse rider ministry begins the tribulation. As a type Jesus was anointed before He began His ministry.) God have mercy, it was moving across the world. And I saw it like a flame. (Flames cause destruction and purity) It made a loop all the way around the world a couple of times and it crossed and it went back the other way and started just circling until it had just criss-crossed the whole globe. A man was riding him and he had a Bible in his hand… (The judgments and revival of the Spirit of Jesus riding the Man-child White Horse over the world.) He had the leather casing, and he was holding it up and as he began to ride the pages began to blow out everywhere and people were picking up the pages and reading them. It was the Word of God, it was the Gospel. Oh hallelujah! Thank You, Jesus. (What did this Word going forth from the White Horse rider represent to mankind? We can see it in the type of Moses the Man-child reformer when he brought the Word to the people. Deu 11:26-28 Behold, I set before you this day a blessing and a curse: 27 the blessing, if ye shall hearken unto the commandments of Jehovah your God, which I command you this day; 28 and the curse, if ye shall not hearken unto the commandments of Jehovah your God, but turn aside out of the way which I command you this day, to go after other gods, which ye have not known. I just asked about the anointing of the man-child; if it would be parallel to Trump becoming President of the New Republic since Daniels was promoted over Babylon when Cyrus was coming in the door the same day to overthrow them and got Jehu the Man-child reformer cutting off the house of the evil Ahab and the factious apostates. 2Ch 22:7-8 Now the destruction of Ahaziah was of God, in that he went unto Joram: for when he was come, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom Jehovah had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab. 8 And it came to pass, when Jehu was executing judgment upon the house of Ahab, that he found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brethren of Ahaziah, ministering to Ahaziah, and slew them.) God is true. God will not be mocked. God is going to do this. The power of God’s going to stand up and show people that God is God. If you don’t know Jesus Christ, I’m asking you to get down by your bed. If you’re riding in your automobile, I’m asking you to ask the Lord to forgive you of your sins. Ask Him, “Lead me Lord into this fold. Lead me into this last harvest call. Lead me.” I want to warn you this morning. There’s coming some troubled times in the middle of this revival. I don’t want you to be frightened and have a fear. God is able to let your shoes grow on your feet as you walk around in the wilderness. (Which is shown to be the tribulation in Revelation chapters 12 & 17) Their shoes grew on their feet. That’s the kind of God that I’m talking about showing up and establishing President Trump back inside of his place that is already his place. (He has never left. He just made a trip on AF-1 overseas. The Generals are taking their orders from him.) And God’s going to clean out. (Drain the swamp) That’s how it’s going to be, just as easy as when God wiped out all of the Egyptians, all at one time. (I.e. at the Red Sea) God is able. Now, who would have ever thought that such a massive great, great army would ever fall and be drowned? That’s crazy! Hallelujah. For the next 30 days, the next 30 days is going to be a time of rejoicing. We are reaching, we are stepping towards what God is doing. Missy asked a question of the Lord on 3/5/21 by faith at random: What will happen by March the 25th according to the 30 days of Timothy Dixons prophetic word starting from February the 23rd? She got: Neh 9:24-25 So the children went in and possessed the land, and thou subduedst before them the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, and gavest them into their hands, with their kings, and the peoples of the land, that they might do with them as they would. 25 And they took fortified cities, and a fat land, and possessed houses full of all good things, cisterns hewn out, vineyards, and oliveyards, and fruit-trees in abundance: so they did eat, and were filled, and became fat, and delighted themselves in thy great goodness. (It appears great progress will be made in taking the Land from the satanic D.S. and factious invaders and apostates.) Back to Timothy: We are coming to the final and closing chapter. We are coming up to the time that we’re going to lift up our hands and have a march (A pun?) of victory because God has chosen it to be this way. He said “It’s not time” and so it aint time. (i.e. For the Beast to conquer the saints in Revelation 13:5 and there was given to him a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies; and there was given to him authority to continue forty and two months [the last 3 1/2 years of the tribulation]. ...7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them [i.e. to crucify them. According to Jesus, all must lose their life to gain their life. One has to die to self or they must die physically. There will be those who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord because they are dead to self.]: and there was given to him authority over every tribe and people and tongue and nation. There will be a day, church. There will be a day, children. There will be a day, America, when you’ll read in the book of Revelation and all the books of the Bible, you’ll find out that it’s all coming to pass. Hallelujah. God’s going to judge some of these people. The last thing that God ever wants is to do is this to people. He gives you a time, and He calls you and He keeps on and He calls you and preaches to you, but you won’t answer. I remember hearing a message when Jack Coe preached about how God is going to burn your barley fields. And he talked about how that the king had called and nobody would come, and he said, He kept calling and they still wouldn’t come and He said, “Go set fire to his fields and he’ll come then.” Sometimes God’s only choice is to set a fire inside your field. But let me tell you something. You might think, “Oh, that’s awful.” No, that’s the greatest mercy of God that you could ever be extended. It’s the greatest, greatest mercy. Jesus said, “If your eye offends you, pluck it out.” It’s better that you enter into life maimed, that your whole body won’t be cast into hell, but you’ll be going to heaven. It’s the greatest gift of God. It’s the greatest mercy. It’s just that so many times, we don’t understand that. But these next few days, I see trouble for the wicked. (Mass executions are taking place for those who have been found guilty in the military tribunals of the most heinous of crimes and this will soon be all over the news.). I see trouble for them who shed innocent blood. God’s going to judge them. God is not a man that He would lie. Jesus preached about hell more than any man that you could read of inside the Scriptures. He told the very ones that knew the Law of Moses. He said, “You hypocrites.” He said, “How shall you escape the damnation of hell,” because of the things they were teaching and telling the people. But the Lord’s going to reign. God’s going to move. There’ll be a revival. I see a revival breaking out there in California. Not just California, but all over the United States, because God has chosen such a time as this. God’s going to put Donald Trump back inside the office. (As President of the restored republic possibly this month.) Church, I need somebody out there to help me fight this fight, help me stand up, and be one of the soldiers that gets down upon your knees and says, “God, I rebuke the denier, I stand up against you, Satan. You have no power.” The Lord has given me authority. He said that anything that I ask, that if I believe and doubt not, I would have it. That’s what He said. And we are the ones that hold the line. We are the ones that they’re trying to destroy. The White Horse Rider David Eells Many ask me who the white horse rider is in the first seal judgment of the tribulation, Christ or antichrist. (Rev.6:1) And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures saying as with a voice of thunder, Come. (2) And I saw, and behold, a white horse, and he that sat thereon had a bow; and there was given unto him a crown: and he came forth conquering, and to conquer. The white horse rider here is neither Christ nor antichrist but Christ in a modern day body of believers called the man-child. Just as Jesus came in the beginning of the first 3-1/2 years of the disciple's tribulation; so the man-child will come at the beginning of the first 3-1/2 years of the end time tribulation. Why must this be the first seal judgment? (1Pet.4:17) For the time [is come] for judgment to begin at the house of God: and if [it begin] first at us, what [shall be] the end of them that obey not the gospel of God? Just as the man-child Jesus brought the unleavened bread of the truth, confirmed with signs and wonders, which made Israel and her leaders responsible to repent or be judged, so it will be with the end time man-child and spiritual Israel. (Jn.9:39) And Jesus said, For judgment came I into this world, that they that see not may see; and that they that see may become blind. Simeon prophesied that the man-child Jesus would cause both the reprobation of some and the grafting in of others. (Lk.2:34)...Behold, this [child] is set for the falling and the rising of many in Israel; and for a sign which is spoken against. Jesus was also a "sign" that the end time man-child would bring the same judgment. As it was with Jesus and Judaism, the man-child will be "spoken against" by the apostate "Christians". Moses as man-child brought the Law, which made the rebels responsible and brought judgment. (Rom.4:15) [F]or the law worketh wrath; but where there is no law, neither is there transgression. What does the "white horse" represent? As the mind of man uses his body as a beast of burden to do his work, so the horse is harnessed as a beast of burden to do his work. The horse represents the body or beast. (Ps.147:10) He delighteth not in the strength of the horse: He taketh no pleasure in the legs of a man. To ride a white horse symbolizes to completely harness the strength of your body or beast to do righteous work. Overcomers ride white horses because their body is in submission to the spiritual man who submits to the Holy Spirit. Those who walk by faith do not give any authority to the mind of the flesh to rule but instead rule over it. Although the man-child will be the First-fruits of the white horse riders in our day, the elect of the woman will also follow their Lord on white horses to finish off the judgment after the tribulation. (Rev.19:11) And I saw the heaven opened; and behold, a white horse, and he that sat thereon called Faithful and True; and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. ... (14) And the armies which are in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white [and] pure. Just as the latter rain outpouring of the Spirit on the man-child will harness his body as a white horse; so in the rest of the seal judgments evil spirits will ride upon the beast of the flesh of men to bring these curses upon the earth. The difference between the man-child and the rest of the riders is that he is the one who looses these judgments like Jesus, Moses, Jeremiah, etc., did. (Rev.6:3) And when he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature saying, Come. (4) And another [horse] came forth, a red horse: and to him that sat thereon it was given to take peace from the earth, and that they should slay one another: and there was given unto him a great sword. (5) And when he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature saying, Come. And I saw, and behold, a black horse; and he that sat thereon had a balance in his hand. (6) And I heard as it were a voice in the midst of the four living creatures saying, A measure of wheat for a shilling, and three measures of barley for a shilling (famine); and the oil and the wine hurt thou not. (7) And when he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature saying, Come. (8) And I saw, and behold, a pale horse: and he that sat upon him, his name was Death; and Hades followed with him. And there was given unto them authority over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with famine, and with death, and by the wild beasts of the earth. Remember that Jesus said, "I have given you authority...over all the power of the enemy". Authority in this case is the right to use the power of the demons. The man-child will exercise "authority" and pass it on to the woman to bring the same "sword", "famine", and "death" to those who return evil for good. Jeremiah was a type of the man-child who loosed the judgments to come. (Jer.18:20) Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they have digged a pit for my soul. Remember how I stood before thee to speak good for them, to turn away thy wrath from them. (21) Therefore deliver up their children to the famine, and give them over to the power of the sword; and let their wives become childless, and widows; and let their men be slain of death, [and] their young men smitten of the sword in battle. Moses and Samuel represent the same type of the man-child whose words and teachings to the woman will bring forth the same judgments. (15:1) Then said Lord unto me, Though Moses and Samuel stood before me, yet my mind would not be toward this people: cast them out of my sight, and let them go forth. (2) And it shall come to pass, when they say unto thee, Whither shall we go forth? then thou shalt tell them, Thus saith Lord: Such as are for death, to death; and such as are for the sword, to the sword; and such as are for the famine, to the famine; and such as are for captivity, to captivity. Jesus in His First-fruits man-child will send forth the disciples with the Word of God to bring the above judgments on the world. (Rev.6:2) And I saw, and behold, a white horse, and he that sat thereon had a bow; and there was given unto him a crown: and he came forth conquering, and to conquer. Notice that He has "a bow" but no arrows, meaning they have been sent forth. "Apostle" means "one sent forth". As Jesus was from Judah and sent forth His twelve apostles and then the seventy disciples, so the man-child is spiritually a corporate body from Judah and will be the bow that sends forth these "arrows". (Zech.9:13) For I have bent Judah for me, I have filled the bow with Ephraim (Ephraim was called in Hebrew the "fullness of nations" [Gentiles] in Genesis 48:19 and represents the woman or Church of all nations.); and I will stir up thy sons, O Zion, against thy sons, O Greece (beast kingdom), and will make thee as the sword of a mighty man. (14) And Lord shall be seen over them; and his arrow shall go forth as the lightning.... (15) Lord of hosts will defend them; and they shall devour. As Jesus' disciples went forth to conquer the mind of the beast that ruled over the elect of God, so will the man-child's disciples. (Ps.127:3) Lo, children are a heritage of Lord; [And] the fruit of the womb is [his] reward. (4) As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, So are the children of youth. Jesus' disciples, whom He sent out like arrows, were His "children of youth" for He has had many since then. He called His disciples "children" (Jn.13:33; 21:5). In Isaiah's prophecy of the coming of Jesus as Emanuel He called His disciples His "children" (Isa.7:14; 8:16,18). The worldwide man-child will send forth the disciple arrows to conquer the flesh, the beast, and the devil. (Ps.127:5) Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: They shall not be put to shame, When they speak with their enemies in the gate. The disciple arrows will go forth to conquer the "enemies in the gate" of the kingdom with the spoken Word. Jesus, Who was the Light and called His disciples "sons of light" (Jn.12:36), also said that the light would bring judgment when men denied it. (Jn.3:19) And this is the judgment, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their works were evil. The man-child and the disciple arrows will once more bring the light of truth, which will judge the world. This judgment will begin at the house of God and spread outwards. As it was with Jesus, those who reject the light will be reprobated while those who accept it will be the "sons of light". The white horse rider will bring truth, which is the foundation for all judgment. Remember that Moses, who was the white horse rider of his day, brought all the judgments on Egypt. As a type of the man-child he led all the other colored judgment horses of Revelation 6. In her book, Prepare For The Winds Of Change II, chapter 1, Nita Johnson, relates her vision describing the white horse rider's ministry. You will notice that it is the Word that goes forth from the anointed teachers of the end times, as they call the elect out of Babylon, that brings judgment or delivers from it. My notes are in parenthesis. "On January 10, 1990, I was granted a visitation by an angel. (Since angelos is the Greek word for messenger, this large messenger represents the corporate body of Jesus in the Man-child.) When I first saw this majestic being, I was awe-struck by his beauty, his power, and his obvious authority. He was dressed in a white garb resembling an old Roman military uniform. His belt and type of breastplate were of gold. His whole appearance seemed to glow with the glow of heaven itself. He was riding an equally beautiful and powerful white war-horse. Both horse and rider were very large. The horse was much larger than any horse you and I would ever have occasion to see here on earth. It was indeed obvious that this incredible being was one of God's higher-ranking dignitaries. (The great size implies a corporate body.) I was frightened by the sight of him and would soon find myself quite distressed over his message to us. I first saw him as he rode this incredible war-horse down what could have been any street in a typical subdivision anywhere in America. He was carrying a huge sword in his hand (The Word of God). This Instrument was actually long enough to be a lance, but its shape was that of a sword. With it, he would touch the roof of the houses on either side of the road out of every two or three he passed, thereby bringing judgment. He would declare, "Let the judgment fall from the greatest to the least of the unrepentant". I then found myself standing at the end of this same street watching intently and fearfully as this illustrious angel moved down the street in my direction. After every house that he cursed, he would proclaim warnings, as it were into the streets. "Great judgment is coming to the lovers of this world. Those unrepentant and cripplers of the children - fear!" Again and again, he would exclaim, "Babylon is falling! Come out; come out of her my children. Take nothing with you; only the clothes on your back and don't begrudge the cost. Judgment is coming at midnight. The hour is 11:55! I say don't mourn the loss, only come away: Come out of her. Run from the daughter of wickedness! Time is at an end. Judgment is sure"..., this he would cry out over and over again, as one would imagine a town crier doing, such as Paul Revere of old. He came to a standstill in front of me, sitting on his horse he spoke with me, giving me a great deal of instruction. Calling me by name, he said, "Nita, warn the people. Warn the people of the earth that judgment is coming at midnight, and the hour is even now 11:55. Everywhere tell them to heed the teachers. Heed my anointed, for their counsel is sure, and is the way of safety and life." Counsel is coming from behind the veil (from heaven). Among other things, counsel concerning spiritual warfare. Government is again coming to the church, and God bringing forth the mighty men of valor to lead the church forth in war. Tell my people; Heed the teachers, for their counsel is sure and will provide safety in treacherous time. Heed the prophets and apostles, heed my anointed, for their counsel is sure and a way of safety and life. (Jesus as the man-child was called Teacher, Prophet, and Apostle.) God will be lifting up specially anointed teachers, prophets of the Most High. They will be given the rod of government. They will carry the sword bringing separation and judgment and will be healers of great breaches among My own. They will prepare the saints with battle strategy and equip them with the power of a mighty warrior, bearing the anointing to spoil. Heaven's government coming in to separate, heal and lead out into strategic battle. These prophets will be teachers who will be given counsel from behind the veil. Counsel of superior wisdom and strategy for safety, unity and spiritual warfare. They will be taken into the secret counsel of the Most High to obtain what must be diligently taught to the elect. This counsel will provide safety in treacherous times. Don't mourn, only heed the voice of the Spirit of counsel and might. Tell my people to heed the coming anointed ones, tell them to prepare! From that point, he began to share many things. He gave much instruction, much information and much warning. ... He finally told me I would find further understudying of these things in the book of Zechariah. "Study it, understand it, Let the Holy Sprit give you much enlightenment in it", he instructed. In closing, he said one more time, "Go forth now and tell the people of the earth. Warn them judgment is coming and it's sure". Then he left, and I was alone in my room". These anointed Apostolic teachers will live both "behind the veil" in the presence of God and in the seen realm. They will be able to say as the man-child Jesus did, I speak the things which I have seen with [my] Father, for He and His wisdom will be in them. Notes from Operation Disclosure insiders. German lawyer Reiner Fuellmich and thousands of attorneys around the world have a class-action lawsuit suing public health officials in multiple countries for the “C19 Scandal” saying that all those responsible should be prosecuted for civil damages due to manipulations and falsified test protocols that cost countless lives, businesses, and livelihoods. https://principia-scientific.com/lawyers-promise-nurember-trials-against-all-behind-covid-scam/ A second Nuremberg tribunal was in preparation, with a class action lawsuit being set up under the aegis of thousands of lawyers worldwide behind the American-German lawyer Reiner Fuellmich, who was prosecuting those responsible for the C19 scandal manipulated by the Davos Forum. Our Military Intel Contact said that prayers would be appreciated especially when coupled with a high expectancy vibration of gratitude to usher in the blessings that are coming now to us to be a blessing to the world.

Nude Clan: A Video Game Podcast | Part of the [Nude]Clan gaming network
This week: the Nude Clan boys discuss the film Postal (2007), based on the video game of the same name! Wikipedia: Postal is a 2007 American–German action comedy film co-written and directed by Uwe Boll, and starring Zack Ward, Dave Foley, Chris Coppola, Jackie Tohn, J.K. Simmons, Verne Troyer, Larry Thomas, David Huddleston and Seymour Cassel. Like the majority of Boll's previous films, Postal is a film adaptation of a video game, in this case, Postal, though this film draws more heavily from the video game's sequel, Postal 2. Also like Boll's predecessors, it was a critical and commercial failure, grossing less than 1% of its budget. #UweBoll #Postal #Review ------------------------------------- LINKS Thanks for your support! Will Here's an excerpt: Melissa gathered these tips for growing dahlias from numerous sources, including books, research papers, my own experience, and advice from professional growers whose livelihood depends on their success. Melissa provides seven top tips and answered Frequently Asked Questions for an excellent overview of everything needed to grow dahlias. Dahlias take 90 to 120 days to flower after planting, depending on the variety you are growing. Generally, the larger the plant and flowers, the longer it takes. If you want flowers before late summer, consider starting your dahlia tubers indoors in pots 4 to 6 weeks before the last frost. Pinching back (the same as cutting off), the main stem encourages the plant to become bushier. Every enthusiastic dahlia grower will tell you their storage method works like a charm. And—they are right—for their specific conditions. The point is, it's the health of the tuber and the overall environment that counts. The optimum storage temperature is 40-45°F (4-7°C). We run into problems when the heating systems in our homes make the humidity level too low for the tubers. Consider using the plastic food wrap method where each tuber is wrapped individually to keep moisture in. Growers who use this method report a higher number of viable tubers each spring. Exposure to some cold is necessary for their development each year, so we wait until early frosts have blackened the foliage before digging up the tubers and storing them for the winter. Come spring, a handy rule is, if it's the right time to plant tomatoes, it's the right time to plant dahlias. On a brighter note, while not entirely deer-proof, dahlias are not their first food choice when other plants are available. Alright, that's it for today's gardening news. Important Events 1803 Today is the birthday of the English gardener, architect, and Member of Parliament, Joseph Paxton. Joseph Paxton was brilliant. It was Charles Dickens who dubbed him, "The Busiest Man in England." Joseph designed the Crystal Palace, aka the People's Palace, for the first World's Fair. The Crystal Place was a large exhibition hall. It was an extraordinary and revolutionary building. Joseph was the head gardener to the Duke of Devonshire in Chatsworth. Now, you might be wondering how Joseph's job as the head gardener had given him the experience he needed to create the Crystal Palace. Well, the answer is simple: he had built four massive greenhouses for the Duke over fifteen years from 1833 to 1848, and that made Joseph one of the top greenhouse experts in the world. And, English royalty knew it. Don't forget that the beautiful Crystal Palace was essentially a large greenhouse. Gardeners will appreciate that Joseph's iron and glass architectural plans were inspired by the "transverse girders & supports" of the giant water lily - which itself is an architectural wonder. Now Instead of creating a large empty building for exhibits, Joseph decided to build his greenhouse around and over the existing Hyde Park. The high central arch - the grand barrel vault you see in all the old postcards and images of the Crystal Palace - actually accommodated full-sized trees that were already in the park when Joseph began to build around them. Joseph's Crystal Palace was built in a very short amount of time, and this was due again to Joseph's expertise and connections. He had built relationships with various iron and glass companies in building greenhouses for the Duke, and he had even designed many of the components needed to create a greenhouse. For instance, the large beautiful columns also served a purpose: drainage. The Joseph Paxton biographer Kate Colquhoun wrote about the immensity of the Palace: "[Paxton's] design, initially doodled on a piece of blotting paper, was the architectural triumph of its time. Two thousand men worked for eight months to complete it. It was six times the size of St Paul's Cathedral, enclosed a space of 18 acres, and entertained six million visitors." The Crystal Palace was an enormous success and was open every day except Sundays all during the summer of 1851. Queen Victoria and Albert were there on the day it opened - May 1st. And by the closing day on October 11th, six million people had walked past the international exhibits at the Crystal Palace. For his work with the Crystal Palace, Joseph Paxton was knighted. Still, if I could knight Joseph Paxton, I would honor him for cultivating my favorite breakfast item: the Cavendish banana - the most consumed banana in the Western world. Naturally, Joseph cultivated the banana in the greenhouses he built for the 6th Duke of Devonshire - William Cavendish - who is honored with the name of the banana. Even with the perfect growing conditions, it took Joseph five years to get a banana harvest. But, in November 1835, Joseph's banana plant finally flowered. By the following May, the tree was loaded with more than 100 bananas - one of which won a medal at the Horticultural Society show in London. Today, bananas still grow on the Devonshire estate, and the Cavendish banana is the most-consumed banana in the western world. It replaced a tastier variety, which was wiped out by a fungal disease in the 1950s. Today, work is underway to create a Cavendish banana replacement. Without attention to this matter, we will someday see the extinction of the Cavendish banana. Now, if you'd like to read about Joseph Paxton - he's such a fascinating person - you should really check out the biographies written by Kate Colquhoun. Her first Joseph Paxton biography is called A Thing in Disguise: The Visionary Life of Joseph Paxton (2003), and her second book is called The Busiest Man in England: The Life of Joseph Paxton, Gardener, Architect, and Victorian Visionary (2006). You can get a used copy of either of these books and support the show, using the Amazon Link in today's Show Notes for around $10. 1806 Today is the anniversary of the death of the 18th-century Scottish-French botanist and naturalist Michel Adanson. Michel created the first natural classification of flowering plants. In fact, Jussieu ("Juice You") adopted Michel's methodology to create his masterpiece that defined plant groups called Genera Plantarum (1789). Although today we think mainly of Darwin and Linnaeus, they stood the shoulders of people like Michel Adanson. Michel was the first person to question the stability of species. When he saw breaks or deviations in nature, he came up with a word for it - and one we still use today - mutation. One of the most profound experiences in Michel's life was the five year period he spent living in Senegal, where he collected and described many new plants and animals. That experience provided the foundation for his most famous work - the two-part Familles des Plantes (1763). In the book, Michel classified plants by evaluating a variety of plant characteristics in contrast to Linnaeus' more straightforward sexual system. Again, Michel's perspective on this was revolutionary and was embraced by Jussieu and other botanists. Today, it is called the natural system of classification. Linnaeus recognized Michel's contribution by naming the genus Adansonia, which features the spectacularly unique Baobab ("BOW-bab") trees of Africa, Australia, and Madagascar. The Baobab tree is remarkable and memorable - it has a Seussical quality - and it is one of the most massive trees in the world. In Africa, they are called "The Queens of the Forest" or "The Roots of the Sky." The last name refers to a legend that tells how long ago, in a fit of anger, the devil pulled the Baobab tree out of the ground, only to shove it back into the earth upside down - leaving its roots shooting up into the air. Although they seldom grow taller than forty feet and they are generally sparsely branched, the trunks have astounding girth - and they can be almost thirty feet wide. In fact, some large Baobab cavities have served as jails, post offices, and even pubs. And there is a massive Baobab tree in Gonarezhou, Zimbabwe, that is called Shadreck's Office by the locals and was used as a safe by a famous poacher for keeping his ivory and rhinoceros horns. And inside those enormous trunks, they can store up to 32,000 gallons of water. The outer bark is about 6 inches thick, but inside, the cavity is spongy and vascular. This is why animals, like elephants, chew the bark during the dry seasons. The Baobab can grow to enormous sizes, and carbon dating indicates that they may live to be 3,000 years old. They go by many names, including boab, boa boa, Tebaldi, bottle tree, upside-down tree, monkey bread tree, and the dead-rat tree (referring to the appearance of the fruit). Finally, the flowers of the Baobab bloom at night, and they are bat-pollinated. The fruit of the Baobab looks like an oblong coconut with a brown velvety hard outer shell. But inside, the flesh is sweet and tastes a bit like yogurt. The Baobab fruit contains more vitamin C than oranges, more calcium than milk, more antioxidants than blueberries or cranberries, and more iron than steak. And here's a fun fact: the cooking ingredient Cream of Tartar was initially made from Baobab seed pulp. Today, it is mostly sourced as a by-product of making wine. In 1774, Michel Adanson wrote another masterpiece - an encyclopedic work covering all of the known plant families. Sadly, it was never published. But, that work was clearly meaningful to Michel, who requested that a garland for his Paris grave made up of flowers from each of the 58 plant families featured in his book. And Michel's work - his papers and herbarium - were clearly treasured by his surviving family. They privately held his entire collection for over a century before transferring everything to the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation at Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, in the early 1960s. The Hunt Institute was so energized and grateful for the gift that they republished Michel's Familles des Plantes in two volumes in 1963 and 1964. 1877 Today is the birthday of Louise du Pont Crowninshield, who was born on this day @WinterthurMuse. Louise spent her life working on projects related to ecological preservation, charity, and horticulture. Aside from her philanthropic efforts, Louise is remembered as the last du Pont to live in the residence at Winterthur ("Winner-TOUR") before it became a museum and library. The Winterthur estate covers 1,000 acres of rolling hills, streams, meadows, and forests. A love-long lover of nature and a natural designer, Henry Francis du Pont got his bachelor's in horticulture from Harvard. Henry thoughtfully developed Winterthur, and he planned for the gardens to be a showpiece. When it came to sourcing plants, du Pont spared no expense to source top plants from around the world. Today, you can visit Winterthur Garden and see for yourself the Quarry, Peony, and Sundial gardens as well as the Azalea Woods and the Enchanted Woods. You can get a lovely used copy of a book called Henry F. du Pont and Winterthur: A Daughter's Portrait and support the show, using the Amazon Link in today's Show Notes for under $2. 1945 Today is the anniversary of the death of the American botanist Alwyn Howard Gentry. It's been 75 years since Alwyn's life was tragically cut short when his plane crashed in fog into a forested mountain during a treetop survey in Ecuador. At the time, Alwyn was just 48 years old, and he was at the peak of his career. Alwyn was regarded as a towering figure in tropical biology and ranked among the world's leading field biologists. He also was the senior curator at the Missouri Botanical Garden. Theodore Parker III was also on the plane with Alwyn. Parker was a world expert ornithologist. Parker's fiance survived the crash, and she told a reporter that both Alwyn and Parker had survived the crash as well. But sadly, they were both trapped in the wreckage of the plane, and without immediate medical attention, they passed away together the following morning. The only consolation for the many who knew and loved them was that Alwyn and Parker both died doing what they loved. Throughout his professional life, Alwyn had been in awe of the powerful pull of the rainforest, writing: "The Amazon is a world of lush green vegetation, and abundant waters has inspired naturalists, fortune hunters, dreamers, explorers, and exploiters." According to Conservation International, Alwyn had collected more specimens than any other living botanist of his time - a staggering 70,000 plants. To this day, botanists rely on Gentry's Guide to the Woody Plants of Peru for understanding and direction when it comes to neotropical and tropical plants. 1961 Today Katharine Stuart wrote to Elizabeth Lawrence. My dear Elizabeth, By now, you will have given me up entirely as a friend. It is shocking that I have not written to you in so long, and especially that I have never answered your letter offering me some of Mr. Krippendorf's hellebores. Perhaps you can forgive me, though, when you hear all the things that have been happening to me since May 24th, the date of your letter. [Turns out, Katharine had an appendectomy.] I enclose some of Andy's snapshots of the garden in early spring. As you can see, it isn't a garden — no plan, no style, no proper arrangement of colors — but at least the pictures give you the feel of the land in a cold, late Maine spring. Everything is very different now. The picket fence hardly shows for the flowers; the grey windbreak is covered with the blossoms of Mme. Baron Veillard, Jackmarie, and Mrs. Cholmondley, and on the little terrace, the hybrid roses are full of bloom. We lost one of our big Balm of Gilead trees in a fierce wind and rain storm, and Andy has made a most ingenious birdbath from a section of its big trunk, into which he poured cement… yesterday, we could watch two song sparrows, and a yellow warbler take their baths [in it] under the pear tree. Even if I can't garden, I can enjoy the flowers in a maddeningly remote way. My first water lily is in blossom in the pasture pond... Today, my first-ever hardy cyclamen is in bloom under the Persian lilac. It is enchanting and a triumph, as I have failed so often with them. I finally raised this one indoors last winter and set it out this spring. I don't even know the variety, for the tag is lost. It has pink blossoms and variegated leaves. Everything else is at sixes and sevens—iris needs separating; one long perennial bed is too crowded; one is too skimpy thanks to winter losses. It has been a year of frustration. Andy finally sold our beautiful Herefords, and there goes my source of manure. Oh, dear, we are crumbling badly! But just writing you gives me hope, and I am determined that I shall get back to normal again. We really feel encouraged. Ever affectionately, Katharine Unearthed Words Today is National Watermelon Day. Here are some words about Watermelon. Go along, Mister Winter- Crawl into your frosty bed. I'm longing like a lover For the watermelon red. — Frank Lebby Stanton, American lyricist And the windows opened that night, A ceiling dripped the sweat Of a tin god, And I sat eating a watermelon All false red, Water like slow running Tears, And I spit out seeds And swallowed seeds, And I kept thinking I'm a fool I'm a fool To eat this Watermelon, But I kept eating Anyhow. — Charles Bukowski, American-German poet and novelist, Watermelon Green Buddhas On the fruit stand We eat the smile And spit out the teeth. — Charles Simic, American-Serbian Poet, Watermelons Up from the South, by boat and train. Now comes the King of Fruits again; Lucious feast for judge or felon, Glorious, sun-kissed Watermelon; Green as emerald in its rind, But cutting through it thou shalt find Sweetest mass of crimson beauty Tempting angels from their duty. — Ode to Watermelon, anonymous It is pure water, distilled, and put up by nature herself, who needs no government label to certify to the cleanliness of her methods and the innocence of her sun-kissed chemistry. It is the tiniest trace of earth salts. It has a delicate aroma. It is slightly a food, generously a drink, and altogether poetry. Not altogether is it poetry. Not in respect of price. Not even the most hard-working of the poets can afford to buy the early Watermelon. — The Citizen-Republican, Scotland, South Dakota, Watermelon On Saturday, he ate through one piece of chocolate cake, one ice-cream cone, one pickle, one slice of Swiss cheese, one slice of salami, one lollipop, one piece of cherry pie, one sausage, one cupcake, and one slice of Watermelon. That night he had a stomach ache. — Eric Carle, American designer, illustrator, and writer of children's books, The Very Hungry Caterpillar Grow That Garden Library From Garden to Grill by Elizabeth Orsini This book came out in 2017, and the subtitle is Over 250 Vegetable-based Recipes for Every Grill Master. Now before I read the post, here's a primer. Gallant Soldiers is loosely derived from its Latin name: Galinsoga parviflora (gal-in-SOH-guh), and it's also known as Quickweed. Gallant Soldiers is a herbaceous plant in the Asteraceae or Daisy family. Over a single summer, a single specimen of Gallant Soldiers can produce over 7,000 seeds - so they'll be marching on. Galinsoga was named for Mariano Galinsoga, who was a botanist and a Spanish doctor for royalty during the 1700s, and he famously observed that women who wore corsets had more health problems than peasant women who did not wear them. Now, Galinsoga is a trooper when it comes to medicinal uses. Galinsoga is a super coagulator, antibiotic agent, and a healer. And the next time you run into stinging nettle, grab some Galinsoga, and you'll be all smiles. Rich in iron, Galinsoga is also edible. In fact, every part of the plant, except the root, can be eaten. In the United States, foragers are beginning to add Galinsoga to their list, but in China and South America, Galinsoga is already regularly added to soups, stews, and salads. On the Forager Chef website, it says "Galinsoga can be used raw or cooked. Got a call from a farmer that the spinach was killed by hail? Don't worry, just toss some Galinsoga in that pasta. While you're at it, put it in the salad mix and on the fish entree, then throw the purchased microgreens in the compost where they belong, as fodder to grow interesting, edible weeds. Like so many other greens sans watercress, It's shelf life shames conventionally harvested salad greens. I would regularly get two weeks of shelf life from what I picked or more... Galinsoga tastes mild and fades into the background; there's not even a hint of bitterness. It's a blank canvas for whatever you like. This also means from a health/diet perspective, you can consume mass quantities cooked, unlike other aggressive growers like garlic mustard, whose bitterness I tend to blend with other plants." Great information there. Now let's hear that post from The Guardian on Galinsoga from 1948: "In some gardens, near Kew and Richmond, there flourishes an unusual weed which nine out of ten people will call "Gallant Soldiers." It has escaped from Kew, where it was introduced some years ago from Peru under the name of Galinsoga parviflora. Local gardeners made the name easier to pronounce, but the corruption did not stop there. Sir Edward Salisbury, the director of Kew Gardens, tells how he found a gardener one day pulling out Galinsoga from his borders. He asked its name. The gardener replied, "I don't rightly know, but I have heard it called Soldiers of the Queen."

So it's Ramadan and that's a huge, huge deal for you and many others, so thank you especially for being here. This is a pretty big deal for you.L Vogl:Thank you. Yeah, even when I think we scheduled, I completely forgot it was going to be Ramadan. We fast from sunrise to sunset. It's considered the most blessed month in Islam, so it's a very special time.F Geyrhalter:I hope you're going to keep your energy throughout the next 20 or so minutes.L Vogl:Hopefully it will pass. You're getting used to it. The very first couple of days of fasting, it's caffeine withdrawal because I'm a coffee addict, then you get used to it, so just normal for me now.F Geyrhalter:Perfect. We also had to, we moved it around a couple of times and now we ended on a Friday afternoon when we record this out of my little home studio, as is the new norm now.L Vogl:Tell me about it. I mean like these major business meetings and then like kids in the background knocking on the door, so it's a new norm for everybody, unfortunately.F Geyrhalter:That's right. You're a mom of two, right? So that might happen throughout the podcast too that we have extra guest.L Vogl:They're not here at the moment so I got a moment of peace and quiet. We're very lucky, otherwise it would be very loud in the background, but yes, I'm a single mother of two boys.F Geyrhalter:Thank you for sharing the peace and quiet time with us. We do appreciate it. So Lisa, you were born in Michigan, with a German name though which is interesting, and you are an award winning international fashion photographer, yet today, you run your five year old fashion brand Verona Collection which is the first modest fashion brands to be launched, featured, and sold in an American department store, Macy's to be exact, but now you're also available in ASOS. What does modest mean, many people would ask, and so for one, I know that your brand is specialized in hijabs and is catering to the Muslims. Tell us, how did your transformation to Islam and this subsequent business come about? Because there's first, your personal transformation, and then you saw a need I'm pretty sure that you fulfilled.L Vogl:Yeah. That is like such a long answer and then kind of goes across of maybe 10 years of my life because you are correct, the idea of American German, of course, and most American Germans aren't born Muslim. Most, just like I was. I was born a Christian, so I grew up in a Christian family, but I found Islam and I discovered Islam, over the course of 10 years I should say because I lived in Morocco for a little bit when I was... I took some time off of college and traveled, but that's not when I discovered Islam. I discovered it later on, and when I converted to Islam, I found a need for modest clothing. It was just so difficult because I then changed my entire wardrobe to adhere to the hijab and when I went out to go shopping for new clothing, to cover down to my wrist, to cover down to my ankle, it was really difficult, and so I found a need for millions of Muslims in America and around the world. There were plenty smaller brands catering but nothing that was really this massive hijab brand that provided modest clothing. So myself and my partner, we discovered that this is a huge need, let's come together and let's launch Verona. We branded it towards marketing towards Muslim women, right? But it's also a need for many other people that want to dress modestly but not necessarily for a religious purpose.F Geyrhalter:I think it is so fascinating. I mean I don't know where I read about you because you had a pretty good press run the last couple of years, but I read about you and I was like, "I have to have her on the show because it is so smart," and for me, it's always so important to find a niche and to find something that caters to a really small audience, and that audience like in your case could be huge.L Vogl:It's really not a small audience, like the modest fashion industry. The great thing about this market is it's a niche and it's not this broad niche, right? But there's so much opportunity. The modest fashion market is expected to be worth $500 billion in just another year or two, so we're on the right path and there's a huge need for it.F Geyrhalter:How would you describe modest fashion?L Vogl:This question comes up a lot because modesty, even within the Muslim community, is a very broad term because everybody has a different definition of modesty and the last thing I want to do as a brand or even personally is try to dictate everybody else's modesty level, right? Because I think that that's a personal choice and that's something that we like to scream loud and proud that listen, we are not forcing the hijab, we are not forcing to take it off, we want this to be an option and a choice for our customers. So for me personally, I wear baggy clothes, I don't wear tight fitting clothes, but I still wear pants sometimes and a long top. I just prefer to wear like long dresses more because I feel more comfortable, but there's a lot of other women that modesty, maybe not even adhering to Islamic standards and show the arms but wearing necessary clothing. So everybody has a different definition of it and I certainly don't want to dictate what my definition is, if that makes sense.F Geyrhalter:It totally makes sense, and you have a pretty big product line now, right? How many products do you have?L Vogl:Right now, we're going through major transition, but in the good way, and just unfortunately, the COVID-19 kind of delayed the process a little bit more. We're in a massive relaunch where we're going to be launching a lot of new products because we took a step back and said, "Hey, we really have to focus on a few other things," and we were in the midst of doing a relaunch. It's just going to be pushed back about a month or two, but we do offer, as soon as the relaunch, it's going to be occurring, we offer so many products that's going to be mainly long dresses, because those are the most difficult products to find, long tops. You might find like a long sleeve top in the store but it goes to like three quarters of a length on the arm and that doesn't adhere to Islamic standards. So yes, there's modest clothing available, but then it doesn't fit a hijabi need. So then we'll offer long sleeve tops, we'll offer pants that are baggier, even swimwear we offer, but it's covered for a hijabi's need. You have your hijab and then from top to bottom, and then of course the most staple pieces to hijab. So we offered like three to 400 different products of hijab.F Geyrhalter:That's unbelievable. That's amazing. Let's go back a little bit to which must've been one of your pivotal moments. How did you get your foot into Macy's?L Vogl:When we first launched, I had a goal, myself and Alaa, and we have a third business partner, his name is Hassan the UK, when Alaa and I launched, we decided we really want to get to be the first hijab brand in American department stores, so I was researching, researching, and the biggest thing that I took away was we have to be successful on our own before we approach anybody, right? I read you had to sell 10,000 units before they even look at you. We did that. We did that within my first year. Then I started approaching department stores and it was very difficult to get in, so then I discovered the workshop at Macy's and I was thinking this is a really unique way of getting in the door but through a different route. In the workshop at Macy's is a women in minority workshop and there were, I'm not allowed to say the numbers, but the acceptance rate into the workshop at Macy's, it's harder than Harvard, and we got accepted as the top 20. So we had our interview with them and then from there, we were like one of 11 that got chosen, and we went to New York and we worked through the program. While we were in the middle of the program, we had an opportunity to sell right in Herald Square, their flagship store in front of all of the Macy's buyers, including the CEO, and we had one day to market that we were going to be there selling and it was like hijabi overload took over Macy's. So they thought firsthand really that this was not just us providing numbers on a piece of paper and that's telling them that this is a need. They saw firsthand how much of a need this was right here in America.F Geyrhalter:That is so cool. So talking about which, before my interviews, I always go on a major Google search about my guest, which is actually something I greatly enjoy. Nothing to worry about.L Vogl:No, it's okay. I'm pretty clean so there isn't going to be too much that...F Geyrhalter:But amongst the many interesting things, I found this one floating around about you and I so loved it. You were named one of 17 Muslim women who made America great again by the Huffington Post, and I mean the irony of using that copy line is just so great, but congratulations on that. One would assume that the current president of the United States would have had a major negative effect on your brand as hate crimes have been on the rise. Is it actually the opposite and your brand strives given its message of inclusion?L Vogl:I think that when you have this negative messaging out there piece, I believe most people are genuinely good people and they don't want to attach themselves to that type of hate, and so I believe when a message of love comes in front, people are going to attach them to that. I genuinely believe that most people don't want to hate and don't want to attach themselves to that type of thinking. That's why I believe like our messaging will trump anything... That's a little ironic.F Geyrhalter:I like it.L Vogl:Doing these at work, but I believe that the messaging of love and inclusion and inclusivity will always win.F Geyrhalter:I love that.L Vogl:I believe I have a lot of supporters.F Geyrhalter:Let's hope that is how life works.L Vogl:Unfortunately, the reality is there is people that think like that, and I've experienced myself personally and many people I know have experienced it as well, but it's not going to stop me from pushing out the message of inclusion.F Geyrhalter:Totally. How was the reaction in this store when your line was first, in a regular Macy's store and regular shoppers were suddenly exposed to something they're not used to?L Vogl:We launched online first and then we launched in store, the first install was in Dearborn. I'm not sure if you're familiar with Dearborn, Michigan, but it is the highest concentration of Muslims in America, so the community in Dearborn is already very used to the Muslim community, so we really didn't get much hate as far as that, but we did get a lot of backlash when it went public online because it went very public. Like we were on Fox News twice, and CNN covered us and we definitely did receive quite the bit of hate messages, unfortunately.F Geyrhalter:Once you get in Fox News, that's-L Vogl:Yeah.F Geyrhalter:Enough about politics.L Vogl:I'm not even speaking politics, I'm just telling you the network.F Geyrhalter:I am. So tell us a little bit about that the name Verona. Because authenticity and empowerment are both so important to you, Verona means origin and truth, right? Is that where it came from or is there a different story?L Vogl:It actually doesn't even go that deep. When I thought about it, one was that just from a business aspect, that I needed a name that was easy to read, easy to spell, easy to remember and very crisp and clean when you put out the logo. So that's on the business end of things, but on the other side, one, my favorite fashion originates from Italy, so it's an Italian name, and then another point of it was that we always attached Islamic things and Muslim attire to the Middle East, but being a Muslim is not an ethnicity, it's not a race, it's not a region, it's a religion that was most diverse religion in the entire world, and so a Muslim can be Italian, a Muslim can have western origins and we just don't think of it like that. So this brand is obviously for everybody, we want to be inclusive, but it is targeting the Muslim community within western countries, so the name just fit for us.F Geyrhalter:I like it because it's also your personal story in a way which it encompasses, which is great. Branding for many means the perfect logo and the stunning website, and while this is extremely helpful and very important for a lot of brands, for me, the foundation and the pinnacle of branding is that perfect positioning, and we talked about it a little bit because you carved out a wonderful niche for yourself that you can own and personally and empathetically and authentically nurture with your audience. What does branding mean to you now that you have half a decade of brand building experience?L Vogl:Branding is messaging. It is messaging. It's what are you standing for as a brand and what are you telling your customer, and these are conversations that we've had within our company more seriously, and we've had very strong conversations. We need to not be afraid to be loud and proud of being Muslim, and so it's the messaging that we're putting out there. That to me is the biggest strength in branding.F Geyrhalter:I love that because so many people forget that. I see a lot of brands where it's really not about the branding part of it, it's really about that boldness and the authenticity, and that alone is enough for a brand, for any company to turn into a brand, right? Meaning there are tons of followers, people love it, people start talking about it, word of mouth, et cetera, et cetera. That's really, really good.L Vogl:If a brand tries to play middle ground in everything, they're going to hit nobody. A brand needs to not be afraid to like be loud and outspoken about who they are and what they believe in, and that's what's going to speak to your customer base. That's my biggest point is that when you're trying to create your company, people just try to serve everybody and that doesn't work, and they try to market to everybody. That doesn't work. You have to really be specific with who you are, what you believe in, what your core values are and how you speak to your customers.F Geyrhalter:Absolutely agree. If you speak to everyone, no one will listen, right? Listening is so important for a brand. Talking about listening, how did you in the beginning do your product research? Did you have focus groups? Obviously, you're in a community, so you have them at your fingertips. How did you use any data in the beginning or how did you start the entire production of it?L Vogl:The great thing about when I launched Verona with Alaa is that I had already been working within the modest fashion industry for years and it was like an industry that barely existed in US, and so I was already learning from companies that I worked with. I had been flown to like Dubai to do photo shoots for companies over there. I worked with companies in Saudi Arabia, they would send us products, and then I also am very involved in the community here in the US, like very involved, and in organizations left, right, and center, and I had already known all of the modest fashion bloggers so I was up to date with a lot of the trends and still up to date with them. The biggest thing as far as when we launch, we were the customer, and still are, but we also are getting firsthand knowledge from fashion bloggers, from companies and what they're releasing and we just try to stay ahead of the game. So when we launched, we already had a very good handle as to what was needed and what would sell out, and we sold out. When we first launched, we sold out of our products in a week and a half.F Geyrhalter:That's amazing. It's not like you're the only one doing it, right? You do have actual competitors.L Vogl:We do, yeah, and I know many of them personally, and there's great brands out there.F Geyrhalter:Which is good. It's healthy to have competitors. It's a good thing.L Vogl:Yeah. From like a religious standpoint, being a Muslim, I believe that God has enough blessings to give to everybody, so I don't see competition as this negative thing with people too. I'm very competitive by nature, right? But I also get excited when other people win. I don't ever want to be a brand that's not supportive of other, especially women owned brands. I'm like crossing for them, so I'm somebody that wants to see them succeed as well.F Geyrhalter:I had more women on this podcast than guys so far, than male.L Vogl:Bravo to you.F Geyrhalter:It's pretty amazing because in the beginning, there were a lot of guy founders and I started to be very aware of that and I'm like, "I really need to seek out female founders," and now, it's totally not like that. I don't seek out anyone, I just seek out great brands and sometimes I don't even know who the founder is and if they're male or female or whatever, right? But it is so, so nice to talk to so many amazing female founders. Many of them are single mothers and have kids, and life is difficult as it is, right? But to have that strength to create these brands and to be able to still connect with your audience and to keep pushing forward with new product and new ideas, bravo. It's really amazing and I'm so thrilled to be able to have people like you on the show.L Vogl:Thank you. My pleasure.F Geyrhalter:It provides me with a lot of joy too, but let's flip this around from the positive to the negative. Was there any brand fail that you went through where in the beginning, you did something too fast or you did something and just suddenly you realized, and I asked not to put you on the spot but for others to learn. Was there anything that you felt like you just massively messed up from a brand perspective and you learned from it and you would want others to learn from it too?L Vogl:When we got our foot in the door with Macy's and then ASOS, there is an element of you can grow too fast, and so I think it's okay to say "I am not ready to take on this opportunity. We need to make sure that we have our rock solid base in place before we take on another major contract." That's the biggest learning and hiccup that we had as a company is that we grew too fast. Then we started, our online platform suffered because when we entered into Macy's and ASOS and we didn't have the financial capital to back everything so much because these orders are not cheap and you have to process the orders and then they pay 90 days later or whatever their terms are, so in dealing with these major department stores, you have to make sure that you have the financial resources to take on such a big contract. When we did that, our online platform suffered, and that's why we are in the midst of doing this massive relaunch. That's one, it's just an advice for anybody else. It's okay to say no to opportunities if you are not ready.F Geyrhalter:Absolutely. I hear that over and over too because saying yes is so exciting as a new brand, right?. I mean it's like that's all you want. Any opportunity is a great opportunity because you had no opportunity in the very beginning and then suddenly it's... I mean with you, it seems like things have been progressing very, very quickly from the get go, but for a lot of others, that's not the case. Talking about, you know net 90 orders and all of that, how does COVID-19 affect you as a brand right now?L Vogl:It affected us massively and I'm not going to beat around the bush because I'm not somebody that likes to just paint these rosy pictures when people are seven, I like to keep it real 100%. We have factories in Turkey that had to shut down for a moment and I had products ready to be shipped and then all of a sudden, this happened. I think the biggest thing as a business owner is you have to learn to roll with the punches and just get creative when problems occur, because if you think running a business is going to be rosy 24/7, then you are setting yourself up for failure. This is just something things that we had to learn how to navigate and that's what we're doing. Things are opening back up and we're going to be having some shipments coming soon and we're excited for what's to come.F Geyrhalter:That's great. I'm glad you're hanging in there. You mentioned that you have some of your product manufactured in Turkey. How important is it for you as a brand where you actually have your product manufactured? Because it seems like a very logical place for you to do that.L Vogl:We really like to make sure that we're working with ethical factories no matter where we're working, because obviously we're not going to be a brand that's out promoting, X, Y, and Z and then do the opposite behind closed doors. Ethics is very ingrained point to us, whether it's behind closed doors or whether it's the messaging that we're putting out there.F Geyrhalter:Does your messaging change? Do you change your messaging with ASOS for instance, which ASOS and Macy's are so different, right? Like the type of person that goes to those kinds of places and that supports those kinds of brands. Do you change it ever so slightly or do you really have your rule book and you just go with it?L Vogl:We feel like when we launched, we did tone it down a little bit and that's why we've been having some meetings just saying we can not run away from who we are, we need to be loud and proud being that we're in your face Muslim, and that's okay. That does not mean we're excluding everybody, it's just saying that we are proud to be who we are. In the next coming months, we're going to be more outspoken about that yes, we are a Muslim run brand by Muslim women, and so going back to our roots with our relaunch. I would say it got toned down a little bit, but we're reviving that.F Geyrhalter:More power to you. That's great. I love to hear that. That's definitely the direction to go. If you could describe your brand, and this is funny because I usually send my guests a couple of notes prior so that they can look at a couple of questions and familiarize themselves a little bit with it. I think that's something that everyone should know and everyone knows because that's just professional courtesy, but you immediately said "I'm not going to read those," and I think it says so much about your authenticity and just like, "No, I'm just going to either answer them well or not answer them or whatever." One of the questions is about your brand DNA, and I give my founder guests a little bit of a heads up because I really try to figure out, if you can describe your brand in one word, right? One word, what would it be?L Vogl:Now I'm regretting that I didn't think of this.F Geyrhalter:No, I'll give you a little bit of time to think. It's like you would think of Coca Cola and it might be happiness, you would think of Everlane and it might be transparency, and I mean there are so many words that have already been floating around.L Vogl:Then we'll talk about it in a sense of exactly how I said I don't want to know questions before an interview because I want to keep it real. That's the one thing I always say, so I would say genuine. That's going to be my answer. Because to me, whether it's being a person, whether I'm doing an interview, whether it's my business, whether it's the advocacy work that I do, I always want to be authentic and real. So genuine is the word I would go with.F Geyrhalter:There you go, you have it. That is Verona Collection's brand DNA from now on. This is what you would have to tell your employees in the next meeting.L Vogl:Exactly.F Geyrhalter:If you could do it all over again, what are some lessons that you learned or one lesson that you learned of brand advice that you could give other founders as a takeaway?L Vogl:A brand advise or just company advice? I think if we're going back to branding, I feel like you have to really know who you are and know your customer base. That's the most important and the most obvious answer. I feel like people jump into this because I have great business idea but then they don't truly know the customer, and so that's the most important thing because you have to learn how to speak to your customer, where they're shopping, what kind of advertising to go towards, so it's really about knowing your customer and who they are and what their needs are.F Geyrhalter:Absolutely. Listeners who fell in love with your brand, now that we're coming slowly to a close here, where can they find you on or offline?L Vogl:As far as Instagram and Facebook, it's just VeronaCollection, one word. Our website is the verona-collection.com, and then me personally, my Instagram is lisamvogl, V-O-G-L. No E. That's my personal Instagram.F Geyrhalter:Perfect. Listen Lisa, this was really, really delightful. I love the story, I love what you're doing, but most importantly, I love how you're doing it.L Vogl:Thank you.F Geyrhalter:Thank you for the time. Maybe we give you back a little bit more quiet time today, which I'm sure you-L Vogl:Back to emails and calls. Work never ends.F Geyrhalter:There you go. Hang in there. With COVID-19, stay safe and stay successful and stay in touch.L Vogl:Thank you so much.

"It was no ordinary Christmas day in the cold damp foxhole on the American German battlefield of world war one. You know the details of this story that I read a long time ago are a little foggy, but it seems like on this unusual Christmas day in the honor of the Christ child's birth, both sides of the bloody skirmish acknowledge our ultimate savior for a few historical moments and the cannon fire and mortar fire in the rival fire ceased." Family Discussions: How does this story remind you of Jesus and his historic death on the cross? Why were we his enemy before we surrendered our entire life to his leadership? If he would die for us as his enemy, how much more will love us as his friends? Transcription: 00:14 Hey, today I've got an awesome story to tell you. But I want to read the scripture first and it's in Romans chapter five verses six through 10. And it says this, "For while we were still helpless at the right time, Christ died for the ungodly." Isn't that great? "For one will hardly die for a righteous man. Though perhaps for the good man, someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates his own love toward us. And that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more than this is awesome. "Having now been justified by his blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through him. For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his son much more having been reconciled, we shall be saved by his life." 01:05 It was no ordinary Christmas day in the cold damp foxhole on the American German battlefield of world war one. You know the details of this story that I read a long time ago are a little foggy, but it seems like on this unusual Christmas day in the honor of the Christ child's birth, both sides of the bloody skirmish acknowledge our ultimate savior for a few historical moments and the cannon fire and mortar fire in the rival fire ceased. The battlefield was quiet. The killing ground turned into a sanctuary of brief worship. Then as if Christmas never happened, the deadly rain of bullets and cannon fire resumed without concern for life or limb. A platoon of Germans feudally made a run across the tangled barbwire barrier to ambush the American enemy. But their raid was foiled when heavy gun fire stopped and it stopped them in their tracks. You see, several Germans died immediately, but one soldier took a hit in the shoulder and he lay screaming, tangled unmercifully in the barbwire jungle. 02:16 The screaming persisted until one young brave American soldier actually risked his life and ran to the Germans rescue as they removed him from the entanglement, again the gunfire ceased. The comrades held their fire in grateful astonishment. The heroic American freed the wounded Nazi and carried him to his friends without fear. He walked gallantly back to his foxhole. Man, although the details of this historic account are a little unclear, the certain truth remains. Only a true to the core, absolute hero would give his life for one who is innovate. The questions for today is this. Isn't this awesome, you guys? How does this story remind you of Jesus and his historic death on the cross? And then this one. Why were we his enemy before we surrendered our entire life to his leadership? And then this one wraps it up. If he would die for us as his enemy, how much more will love us as his friends? And the lifeline for today is this and it's a quote from Jesus. No greater love is this. That a man would lay down his life for his friends.
America's funniest movie podcast, Spoilers!, presents our The Fast and the Furious review. Laugh along with us as we discuss tuna sandwiches, Race Wars and NOS! Do you even have your car? ***************************** The Fast and the Furious is a 2001 American-German crime action film directed by Rob Cohen and written by Gary Scott Thompson and David Ayer. It is the first installment in The Fast and the Furious franchise. It was released in the United States on June 22, 2001. The Fast and the Furious follows Brian O'Conner (Paul Walker), an undercover cop tasked with discovering the identities of a group of unknown automobile hijackers led by Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel). Development for The Fast and the Furious arose after Cohen read a Vibe magazine article in 1998 titled "Racer X", which detailed the illegal street racing circuit operating within New York City. After contacting producer Neal H. Moritz, Moritz was able to present the script to Universal Studios, who greenlit The Fast and the Furious in 2000. Walker was the first actor to sign onto the project, while Diesel initially had to be persuaded to participate in the film, accepting after proposing several script changes. Principal photography began in Los Angeles in July 2000, with the majority of filming being done on location in Los Angeles and southern California, which ended in October 2000. Upon release, The Fast and the Furious was a commercial success, grossing over $200 million worldwide. It received generally positive reviews, with praise directed at both Walker and Diesel's performance, and the film's action sequences. However, some were critical of parts of the storyline and the ending. It was later re-released on June 22, 2016, to commemorate the film's fifteenth anniversary. The Fast and the Furious soon launched a media franchise and a series of seven sequels, starting with 2 Fast 2 Furious in 2003. Directed by Rob Cohen Produced by Neal H. "I had to detach myself emotionally from the whole cycle.” – Michael Scott Moore" In this Paternity Leave episode, we get to listen to Jordan Harbinger's interview with Michael Scott Moore, from his podcast, The Jordan Harbinger Show. Here, Michael shares what he went through and how he survived his 32-month experience as a Somali pirate hostage. Michael is an American-German novelist and journalist who went to Somalia in 2012 to do his on-location research about pirates, among others. In this trip, he expected to learn about the way of living of the Somalis. Little did he know that this trip would lead to an unforgettable hostage ordeal. He accounts the entire experience in his bestselling memoir, The Desert and the Sea. You'll love this episode as Michael shares the experience from captivity, to those times he tried to seek for help, how he tried to escape, and how he was finally set free. Throughout the entire experience, he learned a lot of things, like communicating with his captors, befriending the pirates and captives alike, and most remarkably, how to focus on something else when you are already living without hope. What you'll learn in this episode: Michael's experience as a hostage, how he was kidnapped, and how he kept himself sane throughout the entire ordeal How Michael communicated with his mother and how he prepared what he was going to say and how he would say it How Michael sought for help from the navy, how he tried to jump ship and escape, and how was eventually released How and why piracy is still existing and prevalent in other parts of the world A little history and background about the Somali pirates Quotes: “My mind actually recoiled from what was going on; I actually saw myself in the process of denial.” – Michael Scott Moore “The first thing I thought was how horrible it was going to be for my family because I didn't want my own adventures in difficult parts of the world have an effect on my family.” – Michael Scott Moore “I would wake up, sometimes three times a night, and go, ‘geez, I'm still in Somalia.' And that was just miserable.” – Michael Scott Moore “As a hostage, I was sitting on a lot of anger, and it just got worse.” – Michael Scott Moore “Sometimes I felt murderous, and sometimes I felt suicidal. And so, I had to think about it very carefully.” – Michael Scott Moore “When I leapt off the boat, I was happy. I had wanted to try to escape for so long, that once I did, I was just gleeful. That was just one of the best swims of my life. And that's because it was just the most emotionally true thing to do even though it was not the most prudent.” – Michael Scott Moore “The risk of deep and suicidal depression was very real, so I realized that to save myself from that, I had to detach myself emotionally from the whole cycle.” – Michael Scott Moore “I managed to live without hope.” – Michael Scott Moore “I learned to live just from day to day.” – Michael Scott Moore “I would rather be a hostage under a cautious president than under a reckless one.” – Michael Scott Moore “I lost a good chunk of my life in Somalia. But the effects on my mental focus were, I think, positive.” – Michael Scott Moore Continue the Adventure Michael Scott Moore on Instagram Radio Free Mike

Hello friends There is a new beach podcast at the beginning of the week. This set of "Apoplex" was prepared for a very cool "Techno" set ... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- INFO: moleodj.wix.com/apoplex -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BIO: Apoplex was born in Kassel in 1969 as an American-German. At quite young age he recognized that music is the kind of thing that helps you to feel much better on this planet. He used his cassette recorder, just like several other teenagers of his age, to record Mel Sandocks radio session every wednesday. But simple single tracks was boring so he started "connecting" the tracks.. first steps of mixing music. 1984 he played his first owned RAP and HIP HOP records. 1987 he visited for his first time a club that was playing Acid House, a milestone in his life, because that dragged his complete attention to Acid, rave, House, tech-house and Techno or goa.. styles he keeps playing up to now. But his true wish ever was the creation of his own sound. While he was mixing for his own perfection, he always criticized himself so much that only by his friends he finally got convinced to accept challenges on public DJ contests for newcomers. with his friends knowing that his style was great, he finally won the contest and became a resident DJ in one of west germanys famous clubs. Organizing gigs and events guaranteed him quite quickly a well known position among the DJs in west germany, especially since 2000 where he constantly appeared on the Nature One camping village stages. His first international experience came 2014, visting China and playing one week as special act DJ in a city close to Shanghai. Although he sometimes worked on his own tracks between all this time, since 2015 he is focussing intensivly on the creation of sound that closes the border between Techno, dark-techno and with a litte spicy oldshool, rounding all up by bass and finally pushing it up the ladders on diverse music platforms. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tracklist gibt es auf meiner Artist Page auf Facebook oder auf meiner Instagram Seite.
