This episode was originally published on May 5th, 2018. Remembering the grocery list, coordinating with the babysitter, making food for the potluck, scheduling a get-together with the in-laws: These are some of the invisible tasks that (most) women exclusively do in their romantic relationships — and the list goes on and on. Like a modern-day Greek chorus, women from across the country wrote in to the Dear Sugars inbox echoing identical inequalities in their relationships with their husbands and boyfriends. The Sugars commiserate with this aggrieved chorus along with Gemma Hartley, the writer who set off a national conversation about emotional labor with her viral article in Harper's Bazaar, “Women Aren't Nags — We're Just Fed Up.” Broaching the subject of emotional labor with a romantic partner can be tricky, especially if he feels as if he's being blamed for the imbalance of labor. The imbalance in Ms. Hartley's marriage began righting itself when she and her husband shifted their perspective: “This is not a problem with you and it's not a problem with me. It's a cultural problem. We have to unlearn a lot of things together in order to move forward." The Sugars Recommend “I Stand Here Ironing,” by Tillie Olsen “The Yellow Wallpaper,” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman
Architectural ironmongery manufacturer Instinct Hardware has recently invested in a host of equipment that includes an Italian-built Biglia bar-fed, twin-spindle lathe with a ± 45 mm Y-axis turret having and 15 driven tools. Installed in the Stirchley factory where premium quality door knobs and handles, door stops, and accessories are manufactured, the latest turning centre was sourced in May 2024 from the Whitehouse Machine Tools. The company supplied the machine as a turnkey package with a bar feeding unit and a gantry-type system for unloading components onto a conveyor. This handling method was chosen to prevent damage to the components' surface and preserve their aesthetic appearance. Whitehouse also supplied programs and tooling for producing two key components and their prove-out in Kenilworth, plus comprehensive training. Instinct Hardware products are either standard catalogue items or manufactured to bespoke designs and have been used in prestigious projects. These include the ongoing refurbishment of Citibank UK's London headquarters, Google's new headquarters in King's Cross, various London Underground stations, the recent renovation of Wembley Stadium and Liverpool FC's modern training centre. Until now, stainless steel has accounted for 80% of production, with the remainder mainly brass and bronze. However, an increasing amount of aluminium is being processed due to its easy recyclability. Director Nil Chohan says: “Since we moved to our current premises, we have been increasing our machining capacity to reduce our reliance on subcontractors. All of our lever handles require a square hole to be broached. This has always been done separately on a hydraulic press, as before the Biglia B 620 YS was installed, we did not have a rigid enough lathe.” “We bought the Italian turning centre specifically because it can broach our stainless steel handles, which Whitehouse demonstrated before we committed to the machine. So, we can now perform all operations in one hit rather than in five or six operations. It significantly reduces scrap rate by avoiding repeated manual setups and greatly speeds manufacturing time, enabling us to fulfil our promise of a 10 to 14-day order turnaround.” A case in point is machining a component assembled into a stainless steel, oval-profile, mitred lever handle. It previously required six machining operations from turning on a 3-axis lathe, milling and drilling on a VMC, broaching on a hydraulic press, further prismatic machining on a different VMC, slotting on yet another VMC and mitring on a bandsaw before welding. This consumed 15 minutes of machining time plus 10 minutes of handling and setup for each of the five additional operations. On the Biglia, the part comes off complete in 8.5 minutes, representing an eight-fold time saving, with the added benefit of eliminating work-in-progress and the potential damage to components. Nil Chohan needed a robust and powerful machine capable of broaching stainless steel, he was impressed by the specification of the B 620 YS, particularly the 30kW direct-drive, liquid-cooled main spindle motor offering 700Nm of torque. The lathe has boxways in the X and Y axes to promote rigidity and accurate machining, with a linear guide rail in the Z-axis for traverse speed. He says: “Reputation is hard to establish but even more challenging. Through hard work and endeavour, we have become a leading European manufacturer of bespoke architectural ironmongery. Today, our team is committed to continued investment and further developing our range and brand with an increased focus on sustainability of materials and logistics. We are constantly looking at new machinery like the Biglia to develop and enhance our offering whilst maintaining our passion to continue driving the company and our industry forward.”
In this episode, we meet Ric, a 62-year-old medical professional who was featured in Vice's 2018 article "Meet the Men Who Have a Fart Fetish." Although Ric doesn't identify strictly as a "fart fetishist," he's been fascinated by farting since childhood, drawn to both its taboo nature and the unique intimacy it fosters between people. To Ric, farting represents a great equalizer—breaking down societal barriers and connecting us all on a human level. Ric shares stories from his youth, including his time in the Boy Scouts, where the camaraderie often revolved around shared laughter and farting during downtime. He also recalls a memorable experience with a young foreign exchange couple who embraced farting as part of their open, intellectual conversations, leaving a lasting impact on his perception of this natural bodily function. For Ric, these moments of openness and vulnerability were deeply validating. Delving into the erotic aspect, Ric explains that his fascination with farting is tied to the anus as an erogenous zone, emphasizing the physical and emotional sensations it evokes. He enjoys the playful transgression of farting and how it deepens his relationships, allowing for a shared experience that's both intimate and humorous. However, Ric makes it clear that it's not just the act of farting that excites him—it's the context, the person behind the fart, and the emotional connection that make the experience meaningful. In his personal life, Ric has shared intense moments of connection around farting, finding arousal in the embarrassment or freedom others express when gassy. He finds the act of excusing oneself after a fart amusing, as it subtly forces acknowledgment in situations where the social norm is to pretend nothing happened. Despite his partner of 25 years not sharing his enthusiasm, Ric maintains a healthy relationship, enjoying intimate moments like spooning and the occasional shared fart in bed. Ric also reflects on his journey to incorporate farting into his sex life, initially hesitant but growing more comfortable over time. He describes his experiences meeting fellow fart enthusiasts before the internet era, using classified ads to connect with others who shared his interests. With the rise of online communities, he found friendships, though face-to-face connections remained rare. We also dive into Ric's ability to keep his professional life separate from his personal interests and explore broader questions around the normalization of farting. Does it dilute the taboo, or does it simply evolve the way we view it? We touch on farting in popular media, the unfounded fears of a "fart fetish epidemic," and the intersection of farting as both a bonding activity and an intimate sexual expression. Ric even shares his experience being interviewed for the Vice article and offers insights on how our attraction to a person can extend to enjoying their unique bodily aromas, including farts. This episode is a fascinating exploration of taboo, intimacy, and the unexpected ways we connect with others. Find the podcast and resources at FartFetishPodcast.com

We know sequels can be hard, but with a guest like the Dick Doctor, we are pretty sure we pulled it off. You may remember last season, when urologist, sexual health specialist, and purveyor of the Popstar sexual health supplement, Dr Joshua Gonzalez joined us to discuss all things in regards to penile health. This time he returns to talk about another one of his specialties - male hormonal optimization! The science of testosterone replacement therapy has become way more popular in recent years among discussions of health and wellness for men, but there are a host of details and nuances that often get missed among the community. What even are steroids? Who is TRT right for? What kind of side effects can happen when we mess with our hormones? Dr Gonzalez gives Adam and Cole a few lessons on how it all works and what he can do to help us as we age and our systems change. Broaching the subject of what's happening in our pants again, he also shares a new offering in his sexual health office called Shockwave Therapy, which Adam and Cole are both enjoying the benefits of. Take notes folks, our internal systems are even more complicated than our dating habits.

Broaching the delicate topic of miscarriage, Jimi and Libby discuss their experiences with loss of pregnancies and the impact multiple miscarriages has had on them individually and as a couple. It is estimated that 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage. They are unpreventable and not anyone's fault, yet miscarriage is a subject that we tend to feel awkward about discussing and many of of don't know what to do or say when confronted with the topic. In this episode Jimi and Libby explain why they told friends and family early on about their pregnancies rather than waiting the widely practiced 12 weeks of silence and how this helped them with their loss and the grieving process. The talk about the physical and emotional pain that can accompany a miscarriage and the lessons they learned throughout each experience. Hoping to destigmatise something that is actually a very common part of life, Libby and Jimi speak openly about what they went through and offer some advice around how you can support someone experiencing miscarriage or fears around pregnancy and loss.

Danny from ZiaComics.com teaches us how to play the humorous deduction party game, We Need to Talk by Smirk & Laughter Games. This is a game for 4-8 players age 14+ and should take 40-60 minutes for a complete game. Publisher Description A Game of Staging Ridiculous Interventions about Nonsensical Problems. Caring friends and family have all gathered “because they LOVE you”. That’s how it always starts. That’s when you suddenly realize there’s a problem - and it’s YOU. You’re shocked and clueless, which is why your loved ones have taken it upon themselves to carefully broach the subject. Naturally, no one wants to just come right out and say it. So they keep hinting at it, hoping you’ll catch on eventually. But will you? Or will this Intervention fail? In this game, players take turns being the focus of an intervention by drawing a Problem card with a nonsensical problem like, "Uncontrollable Interpretive Dancing" or "Neurotic Inability to Turn Right". They can't see the card, but all the Concerned Friends and Family can. Friends will give obscure clues that hint at the problem, without giving it away. The sooner the Intervened can guess the problem, the more points they'll score. The longer the Concerned Friends keep them guessing, the more points the Friends can earn. Each of the three rounds have a unique format for giving clues, Broaching the Subject, The Emotional Appeal and Offering a Solution. But if the Intervened cannot guess their problem by the end of the third round, no one will score any points, having failed to help their friend. SUBSCRIBE to watch more videos like this one! In The Cow in the Elevator: An Anthropology of Wonder (Duke UP, 2018), Tulasi Srinivas explores a wonderful world where deities jump fences and priests ride in helicopters to present a joyful, imaginative, yet critical reading of modern religious life. Drawing on nearly two decades of fieldwork with priests, residents, and devotees, and her own experience of living in the high-tech city of Bangalore, Srinivas finds moments where ritual enmeshes with global modernity to create wonder—a feeling of amazement at being overcome by the unexpected and sublime. Offering a nuanced account of how the ruptures of modernity can be made normal, enrapturing, and even comical in a city swept up in globalization's tumult, Srinivas brings the visceral richness of wonder—apparent in creative ritual in and around Hindu temples—into the anthropological gaze. Broaching provocative philosophical themes like desire, complicity, loss, time, money, technology, and the imagination, Srinivas pursues an interrogation of wonder and the adventure of writing true to its experience. The Cow in the Elevator rethinks the study of ritual while reshaping our appreciation of wonder's transformative potential for scholarship and for life. The Center for Medical Simulation Presents: DJ Simulationistas... 'Sup?
Most of us in the simulation community have a lot to learn about making a difference regarding racism, how to integrate anti-racism, implicit bias, healthcare disparities and the like, into our work. In the wake of the police killings of George Floyd, Breanna Taylor, and many others, the simulation community needs to take action. What can we do? We are experts on practice, learning, and creating environments where real patients are not harmed if we make mistakes. However, the social risks of simulation for the participants are high when we try to tackle one of the ultimate undiscussables, racism. Colleagues of color may worry that if they bring race up, responses will be predictably or surprisingly upsetting and re-traumatizing. White colleagues may worry that if they bring up race they will say something racist or be perceived as racist and thereby harm relationships. This workshop takes some small steps to explore how simulationists can use our skills of reflection, learning design, and balancing high standards and high regard for each other to craft a way forward. High standards for caring and respect across racial differences and high regard and generous inferences when we inevitably make mistakes in this difficult terrain. In this session, we discussed practical applications with leading researchers on broaching racism in teamwork contexts and meet simulationists addressing these issues. Broaching the subject of rhttps://anchor.fm/runeslinger/episodes/Episode-3-1---Alien-RPG-series--part-1-e16obdpoleplaying games focused on emotional reactions of self-protection, we take some broad examples such as Call of Cthulhu and FFG's Star Wars Roleplaying to get things going. We look at two shades of this disquieting emotion: Horror and Fear. We look at how our two example games invoke it mechanically, and what we as players can do to facilitate more than a hat tip to the reaction the character is experiencing. This episode covers a lot of ground, digs up a few graves, kicks in a few doors, and perhaps opens some old books that should stay closed, but all of that is being done in the spirit of sharing how we actually play~ For more on the subject of fear, horror, and improvisation in conjunction with horror RPGs, check out the series in Season 3 of the Casting Shadows Podcast where we use learning to play Alien: The Roleplaying Game from Free League as our base example. The Thing About That: A Modern Woman's Guide to Getting Married
To take his name or not to take his name? That is the question. In Episode 3 of The Thing About That we discuss the complex thought processes behind "the surname decision". In a modern world where we're led to believe that everything is possible, it's only right that a modern woman can expect to side-step the custom of giving up her maiden name. But is it really that easy? A lot goes into what a would-be-bride ends up deciding to do: should she go along with tradition, make the big request of asking the husband to take her name, or come up with something new altogether? Sharing a name says something about the unit you are creating together, but as with all things in a wedding, the conversation is never simple. Take a listen and then drop us a review or give us a cheeky star-rating! My guest is Melissa Fritchle. She has developed The Conscious Sexual Self Workbook, she is a mindfulness meditation teacher, a Holistic Sex Therapist, is an educator and workshop leader, and that's just a few of her qualifications. Within this episode, she shares a lot of wisdom about communication between partners, mindfulness, and exploring sexuality. Really important work that Melissa is doing, and she has a lot of great things to say on the subject. Listen in! The “Conscious Sexual Self Workbook” Melissa said she wrote the workbook during a time that she realized the people she interacted with in her practice were self-identifying their sexual being solely through a lens of sexual behavior. For example, she would introduce questions and journaling exercises to participants who never really considered looking at their sexuality apart from a normative model of sexual behavior. So, Melissa likes to remind those who want to become more conscious of their sexuality should factor the complete picture of sexuality: this ranges from the events and discussions that you had as a child and teenager, to the less malleable reinforcements of adult sexuality. Within the workbook, there are plenty of exercises and prompts that help participants explore their sexuality and perhaps learn for the first time some of the true facets of sexuality that many assumed they learned in high school. As we explore within the episode, many adults feel like a window closed for learning about sexuality. Most are embarrassed to be in their 40s and ask questions about sexuality, so Melissa's work offers a great platform for reopening those doors and discovering the sexual self. Does it Specifically Resonate with You? Melissa wants to remind you that there are a lot of great resources out there on sexuality but to remind yourself that there is also a lot of junk information as well. One of the most important considerations is that you take and apply the information that resonates with you personally. Often what happens is a particular person hears that something is working for someone and then they feel it necessary to incorporate it, even if it has hardly anything to do with their unique sexual self. How to Talk About Your Wants and Desires One of the added benefits of exploring your conscious sexual self is that you can work through the shame and uncertainties of your sexuality and get much more comfortable communicating with your partner or other people in general. This can still be a difficult thing though that requires consistent practice. Melissa suggests just talking about things at first. There should be no pressure to act on something immediately. Broaching the subject on a particular area can be powerful in itself. But there should be no immediate pressure to act right away. Another thing Melissa talks about is having the “what turns you on?” conversation can be a really productive and powerful conversation to have with partners. This sort of conversation can act as a bridge for other conversations as well, just because of how easy it is to have. Mindfulness and Sex Melissa says that instead of “performing” sex, being mindful and practicing mindfulness techniques can lead to better sex hands down. With it, you are much more present with your partner and conscious about the sexual act itself. She says that a lot of her clients end up losing focus and diverting their attention elsewhere during sex, which makes for less engaging sex. Our honored guest, Heraa Hashmi, joins us to discuss secularism in science. Continuing the discussion from our previous episode, we discuss the relationship between religion and science in academia, as well as the moral implications of attempting to divorce theology from the study of the natural world. As the American hip-hop trio Salt-n-Pepa put it way back in 1990, let's talk about sex. More specifically, let's talk about talking about sex. Broaching such conversations with our kids can be awkward and challenging, but is an absolutely essential part of parenting. Cheryl and Rod Bishop saw this necessity long ago, and have spent nearly the last 30 years talking to pre-teens, teenagers, and their parents about human sexuality. They share the wisdom they've gleaned from interacting with students in their classes, as well as stories from raising their own two children. While this conversation may not be suitable for all ages, it's one you won't want to miss.

Website: https://carabrookins.com Rise: How a House Built a Family Audio Book and Paperback: https://amzn.to/2RopdrA Cara Brookins is best known for being the mom who built her own house using YouTube tutorials. She has been entertaining, educating, and inspiring audiences with her keynotes and presentations since 2004. She’s the author of eight books, including Rise, How a House Built a family, which tells the story of building her 3500 square foot house with the help of her four children by watching YouTube tutorials and googling things like foundation work, plumbing, and gas lines. News of Cara's family story went viral in more than 75 countries and was viewed two billion times. Rise has now been optioned to become a major motion picture. Inspiring audiences to build bigger lives remains Cara's greatest passion. Build A Life You Want http://learntruehealth.com/build-a-life-you-want To build a life you want is what we should all aim for. Life is short. And it is up to us to make the most of it, regardless of what situation we are in. My guest today, Author of Rise: How a House Built a Family, Cara Brookins is such an inspiration. From dealing with domestic violence to building her own house, she has defied the odds and proved that it is indeed possible to build a life you want. Domestic Violence Cara Brookins weathered through many storms before she became who she is today. She was a victim of extreme domestic violence when she married her first husband who slowly descended into having full-blown paranoid schizophrenia. Because he became dangerous, they divorced. But for ten years after that, he kept coming back and tormented Cara and her children. Then Cara Brookins met another guy, who seemed to be the right answer. They eventually married, but he also ended up physically abusive. After two terrible marriages and children who were aged 17, 15, 11, and two at that time, the experience affected her two older kids. The situation turned even more severe since they now needed a place to live. Building A House Her failed marriages and the threat of being homeless gave Cara Brookins the idea of perhaps building a house herself. They were living in a house that was up for sale that time and could not afford to keep it. She believed that it was primarily the need more than the inspiration to make their lives better. So, in the Fall of 2007, when Youtube was a brand-new website then, Cara Brookins started to research. Cara Brookins was a computer programmer by profession, and that helped a lot. At first, she started watching videos for work to learn new computer languages. And then she saw videos on how to build a house. Broaching the idea to her kids, they were open to try it. They only had money to buy a piece of land and building materials but not enough money to hire people to build their house. Getting Started Cara Brookins says people helped along the way. Building the house took 20-hour days for nine months straight. She had to make sure they were on schedule because she had a 9-month construction loan. “In the beginning when we first had this idea, it didn’t seem radical. People were stunned, but my kids were already beaten down for more than a decade at that point. There was always somebody in control. And there was always this layer of fear. There was no action we could take that would make it better,” recalls Cara Brookins. She adds, “This idea of building a house was the first time that gave us the opportunity to go out and take physical action to visibly and tangibly make our lives better.” Challenges Before building a house, Cara Brookins and her kids were stuck in a crippling survival mode. They didn’t have a close family that could help them through the trauma. “You kind of pull inside yourself, each one of you and each day. We had to quickly learn not only how to communicate what we need and our ideas. And we also learned how to anticipate one another’s needs and talents,” Cara Brookins said. She adds, “The level of doubt is hard to describe because, in retrospect, people think it must be fun building, exciting and empowering. Instead, when you bite off more than you can chew, it knocks you to your knees. Everything we tried to do, it was multiple setbacks before we move forward. Not surprisingly, that level of self- doubt, made them so much harder.” Realizations According to Cara Brookins, to build a life you want, we want to think that the moment you take action, it’s the changing point. But for her, it’s like after the action was taken. “That happened to me most often. I was forced into taking action because I had to. The city and the bank would not let me proceed with this house until I had water. A deadline forced me,” said Cara Brookins. She adds, “And once that happened, I can see in retrospect how ridiculous my situation was. And how ridiculous I had made my situation by not taking that option. That’s when I made this conscious effort not to do it anymore.” Taking From Experience Cara Brookins believes that when you feel paralysis and fear to take the next step to build the life you want, we usually think of the worst-case scenario. And believe that we are going to survive, learn from the experience and be better next time. For Cara Brookins, the transition was after she saw the effect of her doubt, hesitation, paralysis, and procrastination. “Get over yourself. Stop taking yourself so seriously. Walk in the lows and ask that ridiculous question. Have fun with it,” suggests Cara Brookins. “We learned that early on. Whatever your goal is, and if you go all in, you will figure out a way if it is your only way of survival.” Cara Brookins also believes that to build the life you want; you need to put reminders in your path. And designing your life around the thing, you want to do and the person you want to be. Another important factor on how to build the life you want is recognizing that when you procrastinate, our brain is going to be continually fighting for that feeling of wanting or accomplishing something. Cara Brookins says it’s a whole lot easier for it to win at something it knows you are successful at that for your brain to allow you to go out and take that risk. “As soon as you are aware of that process, your brain is designed to hold you back. Because doing risky things can get you eaten by a tiger,” said Cara Brookins. “That’s your primitive brain saying don’t go trying difficult things, stay here and do the safer thing. That’s how we get trapped in these cycles.” Positive Outcome Today, Cara Brookins and her family reside in a 3,500 square foot house. The house has five bedrooms, three bathrooms, a big library, a 3-car garage, a big shop, and a treehouse. While there aren’t that many photos of the construction period, Cara Brookins’ house is a testament that anything is possible. She is still humbled by the fact that her story inspired so many people. “The kids became close. Not only do they support each other but they call each other out. And lovingly call each other out. There is a level of honesty,” Cara Brookins said. She adds, “The key is in our society. We have forgotten the value of taking physical action of going out and doing something that’s physically hard. And the way that it bonds you together.” Rise: How a House Built a Family Cara Brookins’ Rise: How a House Built a Family book, inspired many people to do their projects or build a life they want. The book has lessons that you can apply to your business as well. The book also appealed to men who took Cara Brookins by surprise. “In retrospect, it shouldn’t have because it is that physical activity that men do better and more often than women. Men are better in turning to that while women tend to turn to more talk and internal things,” said Cara Brookins. In getting out of your comfort zone, the risk you feel is natural. Because Cara Brookins says, it is scary to put everything you got into one massive dream. And the only way that you can make something that big is to put everything into it. The first time Cara Brookins considered writing a book about building her house was when she was talking to another writer who encouraged her to write about it. That writer’s agent called Cara Brookins who eventually tried to write the story. But the book didn’t sell. It took Cara Brookins six years of constantly giving up and going back in writing fiction. Because it was so hard for her to tell the bad part and she worried about the effect, it would have on her kids. “To get to a point where I was willing to share the worst moments of my life, I wrote in a raw and honest way. In a way that it was exceptionally vulnerable. And my kids had to be ok with it, too,” said Cara Brookins. Then when her agent called to inform her that it was sent to publishers, the next hurdle was to see how many people like the book. Many did, and the rest is history. Maximize Resources When Cara Brookins started her journey in building a house, there weren’t many resources available. Now, anything is possible. With smartphones and so many resources online, she encourages everyone to take advantage of the opportunity to explore and learn. “We live in an amazing time. But then it becomes hard to focus. And hard to figure out which of those things you need or want. And how do those things go together,” said Cara Brookins. “I think that’s more of the procrastination we have now. Many people are paralyzed in their reality.” Motivational Keynote Speaker Cara Brookins’ profession was being a computer programmer for 18 years. In her spare time, she wrote books. But becoming a motivational speaker allowed her to reach out and inspire more people to build the life they want. “It’s hard to get on stage. Because it proves that no matter how many big things you do, you will still face other things that are big, scary and challenging to overcome and have to talk yourself through it,” Cara Brookins said. She adds, “The more that I did it from each time I learned, I change my presentation the way I saw myself. And the way I saw my goal. My goal was not for me. But it was for the audience, and what I wanted them to feel. It transformed into this thing that I love.” Ultimately, becoming a speaker is a good thing because Cara Brookins loves sharing what she went through. She also does workshops for companies about procrastination. See You At The Movies Although Cara Brookins plans to write some more non-fiction books, she is currently busy ironing out the details of an upcoming Hollywood film about her life. Cara Brookins is co-producing the film along with the lead actress of the upcoming movie. She hopes the movie will inspire people to take action and do great things. And that their past does not define their future. “It’s about how to make yourself the type of person to take action. Part of it is setting goals and declaring it. It’s also to improve the way that your current situation looks and feel,” said Cara Brookins. She adds, “Whatever you think you might be able to do, whatever you think you want the most in your life, go do it.” Bio Cara Brookins is best known for being the mom who built her own house using YouTube tutorials. She has been entertaining, educating, and inspiring audiences with her keynotes and presentations since 2004. Cara Brookins is the author of eight books, including Rise: How a House Built a family, which tells the story of building her 3,500 square foot house with the help of her four children by watching YouTube tutorials — and googling things like foundation work, plumbing, and gas lines. News of Cara Brookins’ family story went viral in more than 75 countries and was viewed two billion times. Rise has now been optioned to become a major motion picture. Inspiring audiences to build bigger lives remains Cara’s greatest passion. Get Connected With Cara Brookins! The United States is a pop cultural superpower. One can debate if this is for good or for worse – but what is almost indisputable is the amount of resources government institutions ranging from universities to the military and intelligence services place on steering the direction of cultural icons such as musicians and movie stars. Today Jay Dyer, known for his incisive analysis on propaganda embedded in American films and music, joins us for a discussion on the so called counter-cultural revolution in the 1960s music scene centered around Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles. What appears to be an organic, anti-establishment movement led by artists such as Jim Morrison of The Doors is, upon closer examination, co-opted and steered by the very organizations that they publicly condemn. In America, controlled opposition would appear to take many forms.— Brought to you by —Very special guest Jay Dyer @Jay_D007Jay’s Site: https://jaysanalysis.comJay’s Book: https://jaysanalysis.com/jays-book/Jay’s Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/JayDyerJay’s YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/jaydyerJay’s TV Show: https://www.gaia.com/series/hollywood…— References —– The Witch-Cult in Western Europe, Murray (1921)– Tragedy and Hope, Quigley (1966)– Libido Dominandi, Jones (2005)– Agent 666, Spence (2008)– Dark Shadows, Burton (2012)– Cultural Cold War, Saunders (2013)– Weird Scenes Inside the Canyon, McGowan (2014)– Drugs as Weapons Against Us, Potash (2015)Member Login HereSubscribe to get more: Only $4.95/mo full talks & audio interviewsOr subscribe yearly: $60.00 for full talks and audio interviewspatreon-become-my-patronfollow_twitterFollow_us_on_Facebookyoutube-subscribe-button-psd-photoshop-july-2013To support my work, become a member at JaysAnalysis for 4.95 a month, or 60.00 a year, for my full talks and interviews, as well as purchasing signed copies of my book, Esoteric Hollywood: Sex, Cults & Symbols in Film. Throughout history, scientific discovery has clashed with religious dogma, creating conflict, controversy, and sometimes violent dispute. In this enlightening and accessible volume, distinguished historian and Pulitzer Prize-winning author Edward Larson and Michael Ruse, philosopher of science and Gifford Lecturer, offer their distinctive viewpoints on the sometimes contentious relationship between science and religion. The authors explore how scientists, philosophers, and theologians through time and today approach vitally important topics, including cosmology, geology, evolution, genetics, neurobiology, gender, and the environment. Broaching their subjects from both historical and philosophical perspectives, Larson and Ruse avoid rancor and polemic as they address many of the core issues currently under debate by the adherents of science and the advocates of faith, shedding light on the richly diverse field of ideas at the crossroads where science meets spiritual belief. In addition to these topics, Dr. Shermer and Dr. Larson discuss: the Scopes Monkey trial and how legal complications shaped its outcome, along with that of other creationism-evolution trials; what Darwin believed about God and religion; why biblical literalism took off in America in the 1960s and 1970s leading to creationist movements to rewrite science textbooks; what really happened in the Galileo trial; how so many prominent scientists throughout history believed in God but did not actually use their science to prove God’s providence; why atheism became so prominent in the early 21st century but not before, even though atheist arguments against God’s existence have been around for centuries; Gould and Dawkins and different approaches to science and religion; the rise of the nones and the decline of religion in the West (but it’s increase in other areas); the limits of human knowledge.

Thanks for tuning in to the Healthy Wealthy and Smart Podcast! Coming to you from Chicago, Drs. Sarah Haag, Sandy Hilton, and Jason Falvey join me for Part 2 on our discussion all about sex! You can check out Part 1 from CSM in Anaheim, California here in case you missed out! In this episode, we discuss: -Broaching the subject of sex with your patients -Recalibrating sex after surgery and childbirth -Rising rates of sexually transmitted diseases in the older adult population -How a bladder diary can help those with persistent UTI -And much, much more! Sex has multiple health benefits outside what is commonly perceived and can be utilized as exercise. “There is so much that sex is good for cardiovascularly, musculoskeletally. It’s just awesome for so many reasons mentally. When we talk about population health and things that keep people moving and happy—that’s a good one.” Sex is an important activity of daily living and can be a tool for clinicians to implement into their home exercise program. “Pleasurable movement is one of the things that help you get back to normal movement. So if you can make this make sense and feel good, it’s probably going to be one of the first and well motivated things you’re going to do in an exercise program.” After patients have undergone surgery, surgical restrictions are not you’re only guiding tool for sex. “Always let pain be your guide, if it hurts, don’t do it. Sex is never supposed to hurt—it’s supposed to be amazing.” We tend to forget about the vital functions our pelvic organs perform every day. “Peeing and pooping and sex, they are all very basic bodily functions and we can start to forget about it. If I ask any of you how often you peed today, you would have to think really hard and I betcha 10 bucks you’d be wrong with whatever you guessed.
