Audience Coach | Build Your Audience as a Health and Wellness Coach

Small business owners, coaches or entrepreneurs in all fields, including the health and wellness field often get stuck when starting or running a business. It involves so much pressure and uncertainty that many times they get paralyzed, don't know where to go or just don't know what's getting in their way. This also affects their plans and efforts to create content online and build their audience. Today, Trudy Rankin helps us with these problems. Trudy provides entrepreneurs with training to start and grow their online business and she also helps people start or transition to online businesses. Trudy will tell us about common reasons business owners feel stuck or overwhelmed and what you can do to tackle and overcome those issues. She'll also tell us about the mindset shifts needed to create content that resonates with your audience and that will help you establish a relationship and build a community around your message. Why do people get stuck in the process of starting or running online businesses? You want to try and help everyone. It's very difficult to be clear in your marketing messages if you don't have a clear picture of who you want to help. You can't apply one method for everybody. Having a specific skillset and type of assistance won't work for everyone. There's a common saying that goes “If you're trying to help everybody, you're actually helping nobody.” Your offer and your audience are not a good fit. Take a look at what you're doing, who you're talking to and who you're trying to help. Sometimes, there isn't a good fit in terms of your audience and the solution you want to offer. This is because you just assumed that what you have to offer is actually what people want and need but you never really asked. You haven't done your due diligence which is to go out and actually talk to people, ask what they're struggling with, or what the problem actually is. Failing to offer their clients more than what they need. You might be serving your customers really well in terms of what you're doing at the moment but you fail to recognize that they have successfully managed to overcome the problems that they were dealing with. Now that they're ready to take the next leap themselves and your business isn't offering them that next solution, then you're failing to grow with your customers or offer them another product or service that's going to help them deal with their next challenge.      4. Waiting too long to bring more people in to take the load. If you are trying to do everything in your business, you're going to be good at a few things but you're not going to be good at everything. You should focus on what you do best and hand over what you don't do well to somebody who's better at it. It's well worth the money to spend to pay people to do that work. Having a ME-centric approach to business could be the cause of your downfall The whole concept of a me-centric approach to business is what actually causes businesses to fail. It'll cause you to fail much more quickly than you would expect. If you don't understand what your customer needs or if you don't bother listening to your customer then you're assuming that you know best for your customer. You just jump in there and do whatever you think is what they need but most of the time that isn't what they need. We have to recognize that we do need to listen to our customers. Ask your existing customers their current struggles, ask your potential customers why they didn't buy and really listen to them. You actually have to make a point of getting them to talk about themselves, listen to what they're saying, and really focus on what they're struggling with. Ryan Levesque practices the Ask Method and he's really good at figuring out what people are looking for and need. He's actually helped to build a number of online businesses very successfully. He has written a couple of books, one's called Ask, and another called Choose. Choose is all about how to go out there and choose the right business model for your business. Ask is all about how to understand your customers better. He has a lovely method that he uses, that reinforces that whole concept of go out and listen to your customers on a regular basis, go out there and ask them how you can help, what is it they're struggling with, what would they like to see from you, and how would they like you to help them. Shifting from a selling to a helping mindset. When business owners or coaches find out who their audience is and have narrowed down to their niche, they tend to start creating content that focuses only on their services and what they can offer and sell, instead of how they can help the potential client or audience. You need to start shifting from this selling mindset to focusing on giving value to your audience in order to attract leads. When you're building your customer base and you're wanting to attract people to you and your business, you need to build a relationship first and foremost. You build the strength of relationship by the value that you're providing to the other person. It's the key to everything. If you're providing something that people find so valuable, that's helping them address the issue that they're dealing with, and they get to the point where they know, like and trust you, they will be delighted to hand you their money. In fact, they'll be frustrated if you don't have your system set up to make it easy for them to give you their money. It's just really critical. In looking at your content, first of all, you want to make sure that you stop with the “me, me, me” stuff, and start using words like “you” and ”your” in your copy. Make sure that the voice of the customer and your content is actually matching. What people are saying and thinking about the issue that they're dealing with and how they're feeling about it needs to reflect their voice, their mental state, how they're feeling in the moment about the issue that they're dealing with. You want people to look at your content and instantly recognize themselves. Your content should be a mirror of how people are thinking in their head about the problem that they're dealing with. Tips for online business owners on building relationships with their audience. Use keyword research Think about the problem that people are facing. Scribble a list of words or phrases people are using to find help for that problem. Let's scribble down a list of what we think those are. Jump onto Google or any keyword research tool and start looking to see whether or not those words are what people actually use. Start there to check that you've got the words right and that you have the Longtail keyword phrases correct. Supplement your keyword research with some research You can jump onto Amazon and use the same keywords that you used on Google but you look for books. Focus on books, look at the reviews and look for the emotion words in those reviews that reveal how people are feeling about the help that they got or didn't get from a particular book or particular thing. Start talking to people You start out researching from online resources so you get a handle for what people are thinking and feeling. Then you go out and you start talking to people and specifically ask them. The ASK Method® has a specific framework that you can bring to the table that makes it a lot easier to get started with these types of conversations. Because you can easily start out a conversation in terms of finding out what people are thinking and feeling. You can send out an email and ask people just one question. You can do it in an email, face to face, on a Facebook group that you're a member of, you can do a post where you're asking the question and you can ask people to respond. There's lots of ways that you can connect with people, and basically find out what it is that they're dealing with. Just that act of reaching out to people and asking them makes them feel valued. It helps to build that relationship and helps them feel as though you're listening to them and that you actually care about what they have to say. And that's going to go a long way towards them going “Okay, I've talked to them about what my problem is, I think I think they have a pretty good understanding of what I'm dealing with. Maybe they can help me.” The most powerful question you can ask One of the most powerful questions you can ask is "and what else?"  It's going to give you a lot of detail and depth. It's a good question to ask. When it feels like people are kind of coming into the end of what they're having to say, or you feel like you haven't dug into, or they haven't kind of told you as much as you need to know, just ask “What else?” Benefits of the Online Business Lift Off Program Here's an invitation from Trudy to go into her Online Business Lift Off Program: “With our online business community, we provide people with a lot of support and help them break down the barriers that they're facing as they're trying to progress their business and grow it and set it up. We have small group coaching sessions, tech support sessions, and master classes once a month where we bring in experts, and we talk about specific areas of business and business growth. We also have a community of people who are very supportive and affirming, and are there to help you make progress with the things in your business. The program involves a lot of actual lab interaction. It's not just watching pre-recorded videos. It's actually interacting with a community of people, with live breathing human beings. We also do have pre-recorded training modules. We also have our forum where you can post questions and ask for feedback and the things that people need when they're trying to solve problems within their business as they're growing it.”   Have you experienced getting stuck in your entrepreneurial journey? Ray has bootstrapped multiple 6 and 7-figure businesses. For the last 5 years, he has been able to run 3-5 businesses at the same time all while having free time to spend. The "secret" to how he had been efficient enough to do all of this is simply discipline.Ray owns a website called livelingua.com, which is the third-largest online language school in the world. In today’s episode, Ray and Monique are talking about how he flipped his definition of failure: “Failing is not when a business doesn't work or doesn't make money, failure is when you stopped trying. And if you never stopped trying, you will never fail.” which enabled him to make building businesses his art. HOT TOPICS OF THE EPISODE [02:04] - Monique introduces her guest, Mr.Ray Blakney.[02:21] - Explain everyone out there what the sword fighting is.I've been practicing the Japanese martial art called kendo for going on dating myself back for about 20 years now. So kendo is the way of the sword and I have been practicing it since I was 22.[04:00] - Tell me when you're not sword fighting, what else are you doing in your business?I own a website called livelingua.com. It's the third-largest online language school in the world and I run it with my wife.I own a website called toeducate.comI also owned a chocolate factory in the Philippines before I am the host of the Anomalous Educator Podcast which helps teachers make money online.[05:26] - Starting businesses and making them successful is a kind of art for you, explain a little bit about that. The creative process is what I like because you get to try things, you get to see what works what doesn't and you get to go back and fix it.[10:16] - So when you bootstrap a company, how do you approach everything from the get-go? I'm not creating something that nobody's ever thought of before, like Steve Jobs, or Elon Musk, or all those people out there. For launching businesses, see a need, check that there's a need, confirm there's a need and then just do it.[14:10] - How did you get to the point of having this mindset of “failure is not a total failure, I always get something out of it.”I flipped my definition of failure. Failing is not when a business doesn't work or doesn't make money, failures when I stopped trying. And if I never stopped trying, I never failed.[15:32] - How did you approach your new content marketing strategy?I put Comic Sans and made the whole presentation like a comic book. And to my surprise, half the room came up to me with this marketing methodology that we use in my companies and said. “Can you do that for us?”So that planted the seed for the agency[29:40] - So how important do you think is research in the beginning before you even start putting out content, writing content for clients? It's like any other construction, right? You can put a beautiful house on it. But if the base is bad, it's going to crumble in a year or two. And we need to do that for your business as well.[31:31] - Do you think that a lot of entrepreneurs that they're going wrong with the research or not even doing it or don't know how to do research for their business?I think most advanced entrepreneurs might do that because they've learned the value in it. [33:03] - If you're starting a new business, do you ask audiences some questions? Do you, like to use the Ask method? Do you use like only the keyword research? What do you use?I generally stick with keyword research because I assume I use a little bit of the Ask method now because I do have a network and audiences I can do it for.[35:59] - After the research how do you think should entrepreneurs use the results? Ep #60 - Ryan Levesque, author of the best-selling books "Ask" and "Choose," joins the Marketing Geeks this week for a very special episode. Ryan is a hugely accomplished guest and his achievements are incredible. He is the Inc. 500 CEO of The ASK Method® Company, and the #1 national best-selling author of "Ask," which was named by Inc. as the #1 Marketing Book of the Year and by Entrepreneur Magazine as their #2 Must-Read Book. The ASK Method® Company was ranked among the Fastest Growing Companies in America by Inc. Magazine two years in a row. Ryan Levesque's work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Forbes, and Entrepreneur and over 250,000 entrepreneurs subscribe to his email newsletter offering business advice. Additionally, he is the co-founder and an investor in bucket.io®, a leading marketing funnel software entrepreneurs are using to build interactive quizzes, assessments, and surveys to segment their audience into buckets and create a tailored buying experience online. Ryan will discuss this software during our podcast interview and how it works. His latest book "Choose," helps readers avoid making the single biggest mistake when starting a business and guides people through answering the all important question: What type of Business should you start? In many respects, "Choose" is the prequel to his book "Ask," and it was created after listening to the needs of his fans and clients. Starting a business is hard. Most people fail, but it doesn’t have to be that way. Of the millions of people who start their own small businesses, about 20% fail in their first year and 50% fail in their fifth year. While many factors can affect a business’s success, the single biggest mistake new business owners make all comes down to one thing. And THAT is the subject of this book "Choose"… We are excited and honored to have Ryan Levesque join us on the Marketing Geeks Podcast and he has a ton of wisdom and value to pass down to our listeners. His work has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Forbes, and Entrepreneur and over 250,000 entrepreneurs subscribe to his email newsletter. Ryan is also a co-founder and investor in Bucket.io, a leading marketing funnel software for entrepreneurs. His latest book “Choose,” helps readers avoid making the single biggest mistake when starting a business. Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll learn: [2:25] Jeremy introduces his guest, Ryan Levesque. [5:45] Depth vs. frequency. [8:30] Do people really know what they want? [10:40] Why Ryan wrote his two books. [16:20] Trending and niche markets to avoid. [20:45] How to find an “Evergreen market.” [23:00] Leaders who have influenced Ryan. [26:00] Ryan talks about the challenge of coming up with book titles & book criticisms. [31:00] How did Ryan’s team help him create his book? [41:00] What are the “Five Market Must Haves?” [51:00] Why you should work on building a better mousetrap. [55:30] Closing thoughts from Ryan. In this episode… What does it take to find your niche and carve out a segment of the market where you can deliver value? How do you take your business to the next level of growth by serving a niche market with a passionate following? On this episode of Inspired Insider, you’ll hear from entrepreneur and author, Ryan Levesque. In his conversation with Jeremy, Ryan explains why he wrote his two books, how to avoid trend markets, the “Five Market Must Haves,” and much more. You’ll need a pen and paper for this one - you don’t want to miss a thing! Is it better to go after those in your niche market who have a common issue that needs to be solved or should you go after those who are passionate and dedicated? For a long time, most business leaders thought that it was best to go after the common issues people struggle with, but recent analysis has revealed a different approach is necessary. Ryan Levesque argues that it is better to for depth rather than frequency - meaning that the more engaged people in your niche are the more reliable ones to build your business catering to. If you want to know more about this important concept, make sure to check out the link to Ryan’s books located in the resources section at the end of this post. One of the best ways to hone in on your unique offering to the marketplace is by exploring multiple options. Sometimes the best way to find the right course of action is by eliminating the bad ones! In his conversation with Jeremy, Ryan Levesque reveals his, “Five market must-haves.” Get into an “Evergreen market,” not a, “Fad market.” Make sure you are in an “Enthusiast market,’ not an exclusively “Problem/solution market.” Find the “Urgent problem” in your market that you can solve. Address “Future problems” in your market. Make sure your target audience is “Players with money.” Where do you find yourself and your business in this process? Do you need help to find your niche market or are you on the right track? What is your philosophy when it comes to building a team in your business? Have you had a lot of success gathering a solid team around you or are you looking for some insights that might help? Ryan Levesque is adamant that his success is directly tied to the heavy lifting his team does behind the scenes. He’ll be the first to admit that building a high-quality team isn’t easy, but his thriving business serves as proof that taking the time to put one together is completely worth it. What can you learn from Ryan’s story? Let’s face it; most business leaders want to be known as innovators and pioneers - they are usually the ones that get all the credit! Think about it, can you name the second person to step foot on the moon off of the top of your head? Probably not - but you likely know the name, Neil Armstrong! The truth is, while pioneers tend to grab the headlines, it’s the settlers that really make a difference. Innovators like Steve Jobs and the guys at Google weren’t the first to innovate in their field, but they took what was pioneered, and they improved upon it. According to Ryan Levesque - building a better mousetrap is the key! Don’t assume you need to come up with the next great invention, find one that needs improvement and build on it! This show is for all of you who have a product or service to offer...or who want to someday. You, like me, are working hard to create something people want, right? You build and create something, then go out and offer it to the world! And hope...you got it right. What if you could just ASK people what they want, then provide it to them as they exchange millions of their dollars for what you have to offer? Today we talk with Ryan Levesque. He’s become famous with his Ask Method. However, it’s not really that easy. To ask people what they want, assumes they know what they want. And we often don’t. We usually don’t...not fully. But we do know...what we don’t want. Or we know what problems we deal with that we wish would be solved. That is the punchline. Kind of. You also can’t just ask anyone...not even anyone in your audience or demographic. You have to ask the right people. So we have an incredibly simple concept, that is not super easy to figure out. But if you do...when you do...it has proven to be a magic touch. In this conversation, we first hear Ryan’s story, what took him from a young guy studying neuroscience...because his parents wanted him to get a “secure degree”, to making 6 figures for a big insurance company, to ditching it all to sell jewelry from China made out of Scrabble pieces and origami, to a few more things and then to significant fame and success with his ASK Method, which we get into because it’s just...brilliant. Actually, I’d really implore you to go see what he’s doing in his once in a year offering by going to askmethod.com/ziglar . You’ll find the majority of the entire Ziglar team participating, but as students. Ryan has used the ASK Method to help build multi-million dollar businesses in 23 different industries, generating over $100 million dollars in sales in the process and his student entrepreneurs have used the ASK Method in thousands of different industries to launch and scale their businesses online. Have you heard of the six steps of the ASK methodology for sales,  originally created by Ryan Levesque? Enjoy these highlights from a fascinating webinar with online marketing expert Jamie McKean, who has studied and implemented the ASK method extensively with his own business and clients. Listen in and see what using the ASK method can do for you. Before you dive into learning about the 6 Steps, scan your current website. Have you done your research? Meaning, do you know why people visit your website and what they want when they get there? Is your message, or your “ASK” (or what you want them to do) clear to the visitor, right away? If the visitor isn’t ready to “buy” just yet, are there other options for them to learn more? Eg: email optin, free download, etc? Is it simple? Do you speak in your industry lingo, or is your message crisp and clear in the language that your visitor will understand? Now that you have a general idea of areas where your online business could improve, we can dive into the ASK method funnel. 1. Prepare Step 1 is all about knowing your audience and understanding what they really want by sending a survey to your current database. If you read the full version of the ASK method, it tells you a specific way of structuring the questions in your survey to get the proper insights, but, the single most important question to ask your audience will look something like this: WHAT IS YOUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE WITH (insert your service/pitch)? When you receive the results, something miraculous happens. You get to know first-hand the pain points of your target marketing and it is all written in their language, or how they would refer to the problem. This helps you map out what comes next… 2. Persuade After you know what your audience wants, you create website to bring it to fruition. In the images and language you use, relate to your audience and let them know that you are the best source to help them fix their problem(s) they identified in step 1. 3. Segment In step 3 you segment by what your audience needs by fitting them into two or three main “buckets.” Keep in mind that the language that resonates with your target audience was already identified in your survey. You can use that same style of language in your website, marketing and sales conversations. Say you have three main pain points that were identified, or three main reasons a person visits your online business. You can segment these items in order to make the site user friendly and make it easy for the customer to navigate. For example, if you are a realtor and you found out that people typically call your business to buy, sell or rent a home, you would segment your business into those three sections. Buy a Home | Sell a Home | Rent a Home Each of these sections can be clickable online, leading to a different landing page and experience for each type of customer. 4. Prescribe You can take segmentation a step further, by tailoring your entire sales funnel to the specific type of customer. The ASK Method refers to this as prescribing. If they visit your site to learn more about buying a home, they will be “prescribed,” or they will receive a different set of emails than those that visit your site to learn more about selling, and so on. It is important to note here to first focus on the top or most important “bucket,” and once you have a high performing funnel, you would move to the next in the queue in terms of priority or demand from your audience. You don’t have to be overwhelmed to do it all at once. 5. Profit Maximization Step 5 is monetizing your funnel to make sure your website isn’t only getting views, it is converting traffic into paying customers. In the profit section, you can build in steps to upsell to your customer and secure their business, or use Ads as a revenue stream if your site is popular, such as how we see ads now flowing through Facebook. In sticking with the realtor theme, if you’re potential “buying a home” customer is opting-in for your free resources, maybe they are ready to buy your magazine on popular home features to look for when buying, and then if they buy that and trust your expertise they’ll be ready to trust you to take them on tour or two, until you help them find their dream home. Keep in mind, Profit Maximization doesn’t work in all business models, but if you can find a way to make this work, then you can use the profit from this phase to fund more advertising to feed your funnel and ultimately to build your business. 6. Pivot During the pivot phase, you assess what has worked, what hasn’t worked, and where you need to pivot your tactics to better fit the customer you are targeting. You can receive feedback through another survey to find out how your customer views you. Based on the feedback, you pivot — perhaps putting the customer into an alternate funnel. I'm delighted to be joined by Ryan Levesque, creator of the ASK Method and author of the bestseller “ASK!” In 2008, armed with nothing but a 450 dollar laptop, an Ivy league background in neuroscience and an insatiable curiosity to understand why people buy, Ryan left a lucrative career on Wall Street and later in Shanghai, China, to launch a multi million dollar online publishing business selling information and software using what's now become the Ask Method as taught in his book. Ryan has used the Ask Method to help build multimillion dollar businesses in seventeen different industries, generating over 100 million dollars worth of sales in the process. Today, Ryan and his team offer training, consulting and implementation services for entrepreneurs and businesses at all levels. Ryan Levesque Interview Nicola: Ryan, I'm really delighted to welcome you to the call today, because I am a customer of yours, as you probably know. Ryan: Nicola, I am so thrilled to be here. I just wanted to say thank you so much for the opportunity to be here. Nicola: Really looking forward to hearing all of your story, so start from the very beginning. Tell us where you were born, what your family was like, and how you became the entrepreneur you are today. Ryan: Sure. I grew up in the northeast of the United States in New Hampshire. My family, I have French Canadian ancestry, my background is French Canadian, my grandparents are French Canadian from Quebec province, so hence the name Levesque and the crazy spelling. I grew up in a working class family. My dad was a shipping clerk. My mom cut hair for a living, and I was the first person in our family ever, extended family, ever to go to college. My parents were the first to graduate from high school. Both sets of grandparents left school at a very young age, and both my grandfathers were military veterans and entered into the military, fought in World War 2. For me to go to college was a really big deal. For me to go to an Ivy League school, which is in the States is very difficult to get into, as I'm sure you probably know, and very unusual for someone from my background to get there. Basically, pride of the extended family. Things get a little bit worse from there. I go to school, and I thought I was going to become a doctor. I studied neuroscience. I thought I was going to be the next great neuroscientist, and that's what my family expected, so there was a lot of hopes and dreams put in there. Nicola, I realized when I was in university that I tell people there's smart, and then there's really smart. I was smart, but I wasn't really smart. I recognized this when I met someone who went on to be one of my best friends in life, a man by the name of now doctor, Dr. Charles Kassardjian. He and I were roommates, best friends through college, and he went to become a neurologist at the world-famous Mayo Clinic. Charles was really smart. I was just smart. I realized very quickly that I didn't have the chops, the-, I just wasn't smart enough to become a neurosurgeon. I just didn't have it. He did. I worked side by side with him, and I recognized that. You have to understand, so at some point in college, I had to come to terms with this. At the time, I was also studying something kind of random. I was really into Chinese studies, East Asian studies. Originally, I was really interested in the effect it had, East Asian-, excuse me, the effect that traditional Chinese medicine had on the brain. I was kind of studying Chinese with the intent of studying traditional Chinese medicine and the effect that it had on the brain and kind of tying science with that. I very quickly fell in love with Asian Studies and Chinese.  I had a conversation with my parents and said, hey, listen, I'm going to spend next summer-, this was my junior year of university, third year of university. I said, listen, instead of becoming a neuroscientist, I'm going to backpack through China.

Do you think you know what your customers want? Have you sent them surveys? Most business owners either assume that they know what their customers want, or don't know the right questions to ask to get the most impactful answers. Today Ryan Levesque, creator of the Ask Method and national best-selling author of Ask, joins us to talk about why you shouldn't assume you know what your clients want, and how to formulate the questions to find out what they need so you can best serve them. He also explains why segmented opportunities will produce better results for your marketing efforts on this edition of Grow My Revenue. Listen to this episode and discover: · What is the key to unlocking the full potential of your business? · What is the second biggest mistake people make when trying to find out what their customers want? · Where should you start when sending out a survey? · What does SMIQ stand for? · What are micro-commitments and how do you use them effectively? · And so much more! Episode Overview Ryan Levesque is a software entrepreneur and the creator of the Ask Method. His book Ask, which was written based on his method, was named the #1 marketing book of 2015 by Inc. magazine, and Entrepreneur magazine listed it as the #2 must-read for budding entrepreneurs. And those accolades are well-founded: he has used the Ask Method to help build multi-million dollar businesses in 23 different industries and generated over $100 million in sales in the process. When he joined me on the show, I asked him to talk about the biggest mistakes people make when it comes to surveys, and his response was simple: people assume and assume they know. He says whenever he brings up the idea of surveying customers to get to know them better and find out what they want, what they need, and what they'll buy, his suggestion is met with resistance by the business owner. Business owners inevitably tell him they know what their clients want. But the key to unlocking the potential in any business is to have a beginner's mind. Approach your business as though you know nothing about your customers. Pretend you are a scientist about to start an experiment, and go in with no bias or preconceived ideas. As you experiment, you let the data, the feedback, and your market tell you the truth. Once you do that and you are open to getting the data and the feedback, you must know the right types of questions to ask. This is the second place where people fall down, they ask the wrong questions. They send out surveys to their customers asking them what they want and what they need help with. Ryan says this doesn't work because people don't always know what they want. But people do know what they don't want; that is a question they can accurately answer. You can get those answers by using something Ryan calls the Single Most Important Question method (or SMIQ). You use SMIQ by thinking about how to frame your questions. You can say something like: "When it comes to X, what is the biggest challenge, frustration, obstacle, or hurdle you run into?" In this example, "X" stands for the thing you intend to help people with. Ask your clients to be as detailed as possible in their responses. On this episode, Ryan also explains the myth of the FAQ by sharing a story of his experience in the orchid care market. His company successfully entered the orchid care market using the Ask Method. He had no knowledge and no experience in that market, other than the fact that he and his wife bought a bunch of orchids and killed them! So they went into the market and asked questions like: "When it comes to caring for your orchid, what is the single biggest challenge/frustration/question you are running into right now?" Hear more about that lesson, and other gems from Ryan on this episode of Grow My Revenue! For full show notes, please visit: http://www.ianaltman.com/podcast/ryan-levesque/

Sales Funnel Mastery: Business Growth | Conversions | Sales | Online Marketing

In this episode, I talk about why it's SO important to simplify your life. Not just your personal life, but your business life as well! Enjoy Transcript Jeremy Reeves: Hey what is going on guys and girls. This is Jeremy Reeves with another episode of The Sales Funnel Mastery Podcast and I am back from vacation. Today is the Monday, October 10 and so I do not know when you will be listening to this. I think it is next week that you will be listening to this. So actually, I have been back for like a week now, but I have an awesome vacation. I spent a ton of time with the kids and family and that kind of thing and we got to go hiking and I actually tried my first 5 mile run the long time. So if you guys have not known, I have been getting really good shape this year. I went from 195 in let us see, March or April I forget, something like that and now I am down to like 170ish range. So I am super excited about that. I got a lot stronger in the process too. I gained some muscle and you know, some -- I am looking a lot better, health wise even you know, a lot better. I have way more energy and cardiovascular wise, a lot better. So one of the things I did while I was on vacation, I was kind of sitting here 1 day and I am like, know what, I am going to try -- I have some extra time, I am going to go for 5 mile run just to kind of see what happens. So I did that and I actually ended up running -- it was in like I forget like 49 minutes and some seconds, but it basically, it ended up being like a 7 minute 59 second mile which I thought was really good you know. A lot of people to get like under 9, they think it is good for a 5-mile run and I did under 8. So I am going to try to keep whittling that down. I am going to try to get to like 7 or 7:30 something like that, but I was pumped about that. Anyway, one of the things that I have been thinking about and kind of came up in my mind a lot during my vacation was simplicity, right. So I have been thinking about you know, where I am going with my business and you know how I make my money and you know, what the biggest successes have been in making the money you know, in generating revenue and it is funny because you know, I have had projects in the past where I build this big elaborate funnels you know just say like a $25,000 funnel just for an example. And it will take weeks and weeks and weeks and weeks of effort right, to make that $25,000. And you know, and that is not every single day, but that is you know, it is a lot of time you know, putting into it. I do not know exactly how many hours or days or whatever it takes for something like that. It is kind of hard to you know, to say, but basically, it is a ton of time you know, versus I just did a (inaudible 3:02.9) with the client and made that much right. I made $25,000 in like I do not know 5 hours maybe something like that and you know, it got me thinking about simplicity and it is like why am I kind of going the hard -- you know, why am I doing all that when I can just you know, why am I going this way when I could just go the other way and get the same result in way less effort and have a lot more fun you know, because I have a little bit of skin in the game. So it is like -- it is just you know, it kind of occurred to me like why the hell I am still doing this. So (inaudible 3:42.2) you know, but I am changing up my services quite a bit to be honest. To go more of that other like more (inaudible 3:50.2) deals and more just more high leverage that kind of thing. So that is what I want to talk about today you know, simplicity, right. So let us bring it back to sales funnels. Let us talk about your sales funnel, right. So you know, there are a lot of different ways that you can do it you know that you can build a sales funnel and I used to tell clients, oh we should do you know, we should like segment into 10 different you know buckets and blah.. blah.. blah.. you know, do all these kinds of things and test this and test that and test that. Let us do 3 versions of a sales letter, let us do VSL, let us do webinar on top of it and then let us also do 3 versions of the autoresponder. In that way, you know, we can test all these different things blah.. blah.. blah you know, and it was great you know, it works. But here is the thing, you know what also works is simplicity. What else would work to simplicity right. So that is kind of my message of today is you know what are you doing in your business that you could be doing it in a much more simple way and get the results. So take for example, you are starting -- let us just say you are launching a new product right and you know, let us say that you are at the point now you know -- there is a difference like do you go simple or do you do it advance right. If you already have things dialed in right and you are launching a product and you know for certain that that is going to be a big product and you have the time, you have the resources to put in a really advance sales funnel then by all means do it, because when they are advance like that they are going to work better. When you have everything in place they will work better you know. When you have segmentation it will work better. When you are really spending the time to get the copy write it will work. I mean copies that is part of the simplistic thing, but if you are trying to do like this it is kind of a multilayer super -- multifaceted, like super complex funnel right off the bat and you do not know if your message is dialed in, to me it is kind of nuts right. So you know there are these you know, various ways to do sales funnel as you know, I have my methodologies and there are things like the Ask Method with Ryan Levesque and you know Scott Oldford his Relevancy Model and with a slow lane and fast lane that kind of thing. So there is a lot of different ways, but the thing is if you do not already have the messaging in place, if you do not have already have like no exact -- if you do not have the foundation in place, if you do not already know exactly who your target market is, exactly what the problem is, exactly how your product is uniquely positioned to solve that problem, you know the core 3, we will call them, in my opinion, I think you should nail that down first and then get more complex right. So you know, Scotts’ Relevancy Model. Ryan’s Ask Method. They work fantastically well. I have done both of them. I have been doing them for years right. I have been doing -- both of those I have been doing for probably 4 or 5 years now. I just never like put a name on it right. Their brilliance is being able to actually put a process in place and being able to like really you know, narrow down like the fine details of it right. They both work really, really well right. Fantastically well, but I think that round number 1, stage number 1 should be the foundation, right. Just for example, let us just say that you are coming out with a new product, right. If you are like kind of just getting started or like you do not have a huge influence, you do not have a huge following that (inaudible 7:29.6) going to buy it right. If you are not at that stage yet, I think it is kind of crazy to go and spend you know, tens of thousands of dollars and months of your time putting it together when you can just launch it with just a simple sales funnel. Launch it to your list right and see how it does. Get feedback right. Launch it again, send a cold traffic. Get feedback. Test and tweak and then you do those you know, those models where you get crazy with it and you get, you do super advance segmentation and you know, all that kind of stuff and you are doing all kinds of crazy retargeting you know everything, all the you know, wonderful goodies that go along with those various methodologies right. Because again, they work really, really, really, well and they are going to get you better results, but you have to look at you know, how much better results are they going to get you and the bigger -- I think the bigger deal here is that when they are really complex, when there is a lot of steps, when there is a lot of segmentation and like all the kind of extra work that you know, is inevitably involve in those. The biggest issue I see with it is not really the time right. It is not the frustration or whatever of putting them together. It is the fact that it probably would not ever happen, okay. And that is the big key here is you have to look at yourself right. You have to know who you are. You have to -- like understand yourself and be honest with yourself and say look, I can either go -- there are basically 2 routes. Simple and fast with less results right off the bat right or slow and frustrating with better results, okay. And let us just say that for example. Let us just say that you are going to get I do not know, 50% better results with like a more advanced funnel or even just say double right, just say double. I mean it is kind of depend, but just say double. You have to say to yourself, okay, if I am going to spend 3 times the amount of work on this for double the results. Is it going to be worth it? And if this is going to be a million dollar funnel for you, definitely worth it. Do it, right. You can do it right off the bat. If it is not going to be right, it is going to be maybe a 6 figure funnel then go simple. Nail down the messaging right and get it to work without being complicated, okay, and then come back and you are getting let us say, (inaudible 10:00.1) something like that right then you come back and you say okay, let us go hog-wild. We are already converting the cold traffic right, let us go hog-wild and do you know, whatever -- I mean honestly basically you want to do their methodologies kind of put together right. You want to be doing like the quiz and surveys and then the relevance, the aspect of things together right. And do that second and then basically what you do is you take your ROI from 2 to 1 to 4 to 1, right. And it is going to be (inaudible 10:31.6) if it is a service business it might be 5 to 1 to 10 to 1 you know. Product like an infoproduct something like that or any kind of product, the ROI is obviously going to be less than like a -- than in really high end service, right. So I just want you to think about that you know and it is the same thing that is why you know, as you guys know, I am coming out with a course on selling high ticket items right. And the main focus there is going to be using webinars to do that. One of those reason is simplicity, right. When you have a high-end product of service, you do not need crazy you know, 18,000 segments and you know blah.. blah.. blah.. You can do that eventually, but if you cannot make that work, just like a simple -- just hey, you know, traffic to a webinar to you know, buy it. If you cannot make that work you may or may not be able to make it work with segmentation but you are still not going to have a great ROI and in my view, you are better of spending more time thinking about the problem and the customer and the solution than you are building a crazy advance funnel, right. And now that does not mean that you cannot do segmentation, right. That does not mean that you cannot -- I am not saying do not put effort to it, right. I am not saying just throw something together and see what happens. You kind of have to find that balance there. What I am saying is, know where you are because some people like me for example, I have the patience right, to spend a month or 2 months putting together copy that for advance segmentation funnel right, because I do it every day you know what I mean. So I have that patience. I have been working on this webinar product for like 2 months already and it is really just because I mean this thing is just legendary and it is going to be freaking awesome and I just want to do it right you know what I mean, like I do not want to throw some shotty product out there. I want to have it done to the point where I mean people are going insane over it. So that is what I am doing. But I have the patience for that. A lot of people do not have that patience. So if -- you have to know yourself you know. If you do not have the resources, if you do not have the money, the team, you know whatever to do like a super advance funnel then do not do it. Get something more simple in place first, right. So for example webinar funnel, right. There is -- you have to have the ads going to the page. You have to have the landing page. You have to have the prewebinar emails, right. You know to start, you can just do a reminder emails. You can go back and you know, redo it properly you know, with getting people you know, bonding with people and talk about the problem and you know, all that kind of good stuff right and that is going to improve your results, but for now, you can just use the you know, hey, reminder, your webinar is going to start blah.. blah.. blah.. in that way, it forces you to make sure that the topic that you have right, that the position that you have is going to make sales that you know, that is going to -- that is going to be the start rather than the reminder emails, right. So then you have the content of the webinar. You have the (inaudible 13:33.6) all that kind of good stuff and then you have the postwebinar emails you know. I mean the postwebinar emails that is something like I would definitely recommend having the 3 segments because you are going -- you talk to them very differently, but like if for example, you do not have to have 3 segments or more. You can just do people who missed it versus people who attend it and do 2 segments with that right. And then you know, you have your countdowns and blah.. blah.. blah.. That is a very simple funnel. It does not take that long to put together. In my course for example, the goal is going to be 14 days you know, start to finish, 14 days of your life right and you can definitely do it way faster. You can do it like if you already know you know, the problem and the solution and you know, like your topic and that kind of thing, if you are already really (inaudible 14:21.9) market it is going to be probably as little as like 3 days that you can actually do this because of the templates that I have and that kind of thing. It is really -- I mean, oh God, this freaking templates are awesome. I am so excited about them. I cannot wait like I am dying to like, show people what these are. It is just oh God, they are freaking ridiculous. Anyway, but the point of today’s message is just look within your market. It does not have to be funnels right. You can apply this to anywhere in your business. It can be funnels you know, are you doing 2 complex funnels. Are you not doing -- are you doing 2 simple funnels you know, you have to find your balance. Like everything, nothing is black and white. You should never only do advance funnels. You should never only do simple funnels. It depends on you. It depends on you know, the influence that you already have, the audience that you already have. It depends on the price point. It depends on your resources. It depends on your timeline. It depends on your goals. I mean there are so many factors in this that only you can figure that out right. So I want you to think about that. Do I want more of a simple route and then you know, once it is doing well, once you can kind of see light then you go back and phase 2 segmentation or do you say, okay, I am going to do an advance funnel first and then just be done with it and then just -- you know, you are still going to test and tweak. I mean that is part of the process regardless. That is kind of the you know, the message for the day, but it does not have to only be funnels. It can you know, look at this in every aspect of your business. Are you being too complicated you know, what can you simplify with the way that you communicate with your employees? What can you simplify with your cash flow management? What can you simplify with your workday, right. That is a big one you know, what can you simplify with your health? That is a big one for me. So like I know the triggers. I know -- for me for example, what I have learned is that if I -- my one big -- I called it Newton’s Cradle right. My one big -- Newton’s cradle is -- they are those balls that you got in science class where there was like, whatever like 4 or 5 balls in a row and you lift up the one side, it swings down hits the other one and then the other side goes up and then that comes on hits it, the other side goes up. That is called the Newton’s Cradle. I have kind of a philosophy that if you find your Newton’s Cradle when you make one change, it makes more like it reverberates throughout your entire business or your life. So for example, me with health right. If I, my Newton’s Cradle in that is tracking calories. If I track calories. I hit my goals period right. If it do not track calories, I get fat period. Like that is just how for whatever reason, if I do not track calories, I just go off on a freaking (inaudible 17:20.7) right. You know, because you do not have that like, that is kind of like my external pressure you know, that is my accountability partner is the tracking -- calorie tracking software. And by the way, for anybody wanted to lose weight it is not complicated you know, everybody always says, oh it is so complicated, it takes so much time. It takes like a minute to do it. Just a horrible excuse. Anyway, so that is my thing. Like I just found you know, that if I track whatever my goals are, I hit them. If I do not track, I do not hit them and I get fat, right. Because you know, I do not have great genes, never have you know, if I go off my diet, I gain weight very, very easily, but if I do go on my diet, I lose weight easily you know what I mean. Not really easily, but you know, I can whittle down to where I want to be. So that is the message for today you know, look throughout your life. Where are you overcomplicating things. Is it your relationship? Is it your health. Is it your you know, is it your relationship with your kids? Or you know, (inaudible 18:23.3) like your wife or your husband? Is it in your business? Is it in the way that you communicate with people. It is in you know, your working habits? It is in your health? I think already said that. So just look you know, look or maybe write down and say okay, what is one thing that I can simplify in each of the you know, the main areas. Let us just call the main areas maybe like a business body you know, your spirituality and I think I am missing -- I do not know money you know, whatever like the big for you. So yeah, that is it for today. I hope you enjoy this. As always, if you enjoy this message, make sure you are sharing it with other people. I have been getting a lot of comments recently. People you know, really enjoying the podcast. Thanks for those. Make sure that you are leaving a review. It only takes a second and that is the absolute biggest compliment that you can give me is by leaving a review. That is what is going to help us get more listeners and that is what is going to help you know, when we get more listeners, I put more time into it, right. There has to be that you know, basically it hast to be worth it for me. So as long as that continues to increase, then I will continue to do this and bring you the goodies. So make sure that you left a review. If you did by the way, reminder about that. If you send an email to support@jeremyreeves.com telling us that you left a review just let me know like when you left it or you can copy paste whatever or whatever you want to do. I used to sell it for $77 and if you leave a review, I will give it to you for free. Sounds pretty cool. So anyway, that is it. I hope you enjoy the rest of your day and week and I will talk to you soon.
