Interview with Alan Carter, President & CEO of Cabral Gold Inc.Our previous interview: https://www.cruxinvestor.com/posts/cabral-gold-tsxvcbr-2500oz-margins-position-brazil-project-for-exceptional-near-term-returns-8097Recording date: 16th October 2025Cabral Gold has positioned itself for a transition from explorer to producer following the recent US$45 million gold loan financing that fully funds construction of its Brazilian heap leach operation without diluting shareholders, a rare achievement in the junior mining sector. With first gold pour scheduled for Q4 2026, investors have clear visibility to cash flow generation within 12 months. The project's financial profile stands out in today's gold price environment. At US$2,500/oz gold, the operation generates a 78% IRR with just US$37.7 million in capital requirements and a 10-month payback period. All-in sustaining costs of US$1,210/oz create margins exceeding US$3,000/oz at current gold prices, translating to approximately US$75 million in annual pre-tax cash flow. This positions Cabral among the highest-margin gold developers globally, with sufficient cash generation to self-fund aggressive exploration while maintaining financial flexibility. The value proposition extends beyond near-term production. Located adjacent to Brazil's third-largest gold mine, Cuiú Cuiú produced 10 times more historical placer gold than its neighbor, suggesting substantially greater hard rock potential. With current resources of 1.2 million ounces and recent drill intercepts up to 33 g/t gold outside resource boundaries, the company has identified over 50 exploration targets across the district. Management's track record, including CEO Alan Carter's involvement in discovering the neighboring G Mining's Tocantinzinho deposit, provides operational credibility. The combination of near-term cash flow, substantial margins, exploration upside, and experienced management in a proven jurisdiction creates multiple pathways to potential value creation. For investors seeking exposure to emerging gold producers with growth optionality, Cabral presents a differentiated opportunity with both production visibility and district-scale exploration potential in one of Brazil's most established gold regions.—Learn more: https://cruxinvestor.com/companies/cabral-goldSign up for Crux Investor: https://cruxinvestor.com

Travel Portuguese: Brazilian vibes, European polish, and the phrases that actually help on the ground

Want Portuguese you can actually use the moment you land? We invited our friend David to walk us through a traveler's toolkit that works in both Brazil and Portugal, focusing on sounds, phrases, and tiny tweaks that turn confusion into connection. From the musical softness of Brazilian Portuguese to the crisp edges you'll hear in Lisbon, we break down what changes, what stays the same, and how to be understood anywhere you roam.We start with high‑impact essentials: bom dia vs boa noite, when tchau fits, and why “obrigado/obrigada” depends on who's speaking. David demystifies the nasal vowels that give Portuguese its character—think sim that feels like “seen,” and não with a gentle hum you feel more than hear. You'll learn how to get attention with com licença, own a slip with desculpe, and navigate everyday moments with clarity: “Fala inglês?” “Falo.” If the reply races by, “mais uma vez?” slows the world down without killing the vibe. Then we get practical with maps and menus. Use onde fica to find the places travelers need most: o banheiro, a estação, o ponto de ônibus, o hotel, a farmácia. Order like a local by naming the item plus por favor—água, café com leite, chá—no stress, no essays. Introductions are simple and warm: “Meu nome é…” followed by “muito prazer” builds instant rapport. We also cover numbers with a twist—um/uma and dois/duas reflect gendered nouns—so you can ask for duas águas and then request a conta with confidence. This is language stripped to what works: sound patterns you can mimic, phrases built for real life, and a traveler's mindset that favors clarity over perfection. If Portugal's tiles or Brazil's beaches are calling, this guide gets you from shy nods to small wins fast. Hit play, learn a handful, and see how far “tudo bem?” can take you. Enjoyed the episode? Pepe elaborated on his 40-year career in on-the-ground journalism—from navigating conflict zones to revealing concealed geopolitical machinations—emphasising that authentic understanding arises from direct immersion, unlike the majority who now rely on remote, filtered data streams controlled by entrenched interests. He examined the ascendant influence of China and Central Asia, Russia's calculated manoeuvres against Western hegemony, the BRICS coalition as a subtle insurgency against dollar dominance, the Belt and Road Initiative forging alternative trade corridors to evade imperial constraints, and the impending disintegration of the West's faltering edifice, engineered by elite factions clinging to fading control in an emerging multipolar order.

During the Brazilian military dictatorship, the Krenak indigenous people were banned from speaking their language, imprisoned in reformatories and forcibly displaced from their land. In 2024, the State asked them for forgiveness. Can it be granted? Journalist Pūlama Kaufman travels to the remote city of Resplendor in the south-east of Brazil to meet up with Brazilian environmental journalist, Cristina Serra. Together, they are welcomed into the Krenak Indigenous territory where they speak with Karnak elders, philosophers and community leaders. The Documentary uncovers the many layers to what Brazilian Civil Prosecutor Edmundo Dias calls an intentional, “genocide” of the Krenak, lead by Brazilian federal agencies. For decades, very little was known about what the Krenak suffered during the dictatorship, but now they are speaking out. And in 2024, the Amnesty Commission made its first ever apology to an Indigenous group when the president of the Commission got down on her knees in front of the Krenak.

With a career spanning over fifteen years, Golden Bug has become known for his unique signature: drum machines in a haze of smoke, chopped-up sounds with a machete edge, drenched in delay – a raw, kaleidoscopic patchwork of electronica, dub, and psychedelia. His work has graced labels including La Belle Records (his own imprint), Les Disques de la Mort, Höga Nord, Gomma, Multi Culti, and Kompakt. This mix hits as the anniversary edition of Piscolabis II, where Golden Bug teams up once again with artists from around the world to craft a new series of aural excursions. From digital reggae to cinematic electronica with Londoner Simone Butler (of Primal Scream) and Brazilian artist Max Blum, to mutant disco with Franco-Italian musician Kim Giani, via slow-burning, incandescent techno led by the captivating voice of Greek singer Scarlett O'Hanna, and krautrock infused with dub in collaboration with London-based Phoebe Coco. These six tracks offer a bold and refreshing reinterpretation of the original album: a rich, textured sonic journey shaped by diverse and unexpected influences. Among the selections, you'll find current favouites like SAVE's Rainy Monday — a digital dub gem from Marc Nguyen's project on Ivan Smagghe's Les Disques de la Mort, alongside recent discoveries like Blotter Trax's Superconductor on Optimo. Send us a textA hiking-and-biking escape on Lake Superior collides with a neon-lit Vegas weekend—and it all funnels into a glass of Widow Jane Vaults 2024. We open with two very different trips that reveal how our tastes and habits have evolved: early mornings over late nights and a sportsbook booth that turns 50 screens into a day-long living room. That perspective sets up a timely shift into the fall whiskey calendar, where the shelves swell, rumors fly, and the chase begins: Buffalo Trace Antique Collection specs, Pappy drops, King of Kentucky whispers, and the finding time for Kentucky Bourbon Festival next year. Then we roll up our sleeves for a focused pour. Widow Jane Vaults 2024 blends well-aged Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee bourbon and finishes it in Brazilian oak (amburana), clocking in at 99 proof with a premium $250 tag. We break down what an amburana wood cask brings—baking spice, liqueur-like sweetness, darker cocoa threads—and how that finish can dominate the experience. On the nose we find dried fruit and amaretto hints; on the palate a quick burst of caramelized sweetness gives way to a long, assertive spice and nuttiness. One of us loves the richness and length; the other wants more evolution at the end. Our verdict: a compelling pour for the curious, a cautious bottle buy unless wood-forward finishes are your thing.Along the way, we trade practical tips for navigating release season, from spotting value on crowded shelves to deciding when to pay up for age and when to pass. If your heart lives with classic profiles from Heaven Hill, Wild Turkey, Maker's Mark, or Old Forester, consider this a creative detour. If you chase distinctive finishes and limited series, this might be your fall splurge. Either way, we keep it honest, grounded, and fun—because the best part of whiskey is still who you share it with.If you enjoyed the ride, follow the show, share it with a friend, and leave a quick review telling us your favorite fall release and whether you'd buy or just try the Widow Jane Vaults.

In 2017, she restarted her martial arts journey but was inconsistent. But then during the pandemic around 2020, 2021, this became her passion. Vanessa competes mostly in Brazilian jiu-jitsu tournaments. Within the last year, she began competing in mixed martial arts and kickboxing events. This improves her confidence as a woman in a male-dominated sport and in her everyday life. Maxine Chernoff and Paul Hoover talk with Roxi Power in this second part of our interview, revealing their mutual love of film and poetry inspired by it. From Chernoff's surreal meditations on François Truffaut's French New Wave film, Jules et Jim, toHoover's weaving of Wim Wenders' Lisbon Story into his dreamlike language, we look through the lenses of other artforms—including the deep and unsettling Brazilian musical genre, Fado—to experience the strange and gorgeous interior worlds of these prolific and beloved Bay Area poets. Listen to Part 1 of our interview from 8-9-25 here. Maxine Chernoff is professor emeritus of creative writing at San Francisco State University. She is the author of 19 books of poetry and six of fiction, including recent collections from MadHat Press:  Light and Clay: New and Selected Poems (2023)and Under the Music: Collected Prose Poems (2019).  Peter Johnson called her the most important prose poet of her generation. She is a recipient of a 2013 National Endowment for the Arts in Poetry and, along with Paul Hoover, the 2009 PEN Translation Award for their translation of The Selected Poems of Friedrich Hölderlin. In 2016 she was a visiting writer at the American Academy in Rome. A former editor of New American Writing, she lives in Mill Valley. Paul Hoover is the author of over a dozen collections of poetry; his most recent book of poetry is O, and Green: New and Selected Poems (MadHat Press, 2021). He has also published a collection of essays and a novel, and translated or co-translated a few books, including Black Dog, Black Night: Contemporary Vietnamese Poetry.  Founding and current Editor of the literary annual, New American Writing–now published by MadHat Press–and two editions of the indispensable Postmodern American Poetry: A Norton Anthology, Hoover teaches at San Francisco State University.  He's also won an NEA and numerous awards, including the Carl Sandberg Award in poetry which Chernoff has also won.

Policy is slamming the countryside. Chris Clayton (DTN/Progressive Farmer) explains how tariffs, China's pivot to Brazilian soybeans, and a USDA shutdown are colliding with harvest to pressure basis, storage, and cash flow—and to derail rural land sales. We dig into why China (historically 25–33% of U.S. soybean demand) is buying from Brazil (COFCO/ports, crush), how that drives basis widening and elevator capacity issues, and what could actually move the needle: biofuels (biodiesel/renewable diesel, ethanol, SAF). We also lay out shutdown fallout—FSA farm ownership/operating loans stalled, CRP payments paused, NRCS (EQIP/CSP) frozen—plus the limited upside from CCC/ECAP‑style aid. If you buy/sell rural land or advise landowners, this is the unvarnished read on farmland values, buyer pools, and the next 3–6 months. Why It Matters Deals slip/die: FSA loans are stopped, shrinking the buyer pool just as post‑harvest listings hit. Cash crunch: Basis widening + storage pressure at harvest reduce liquidity for down payments and improvements. Programs on ice: CRP checks delayed; NRCS projects paused—affecting valuations and conservation‑driven marketing. Demand hinges on policy: RFS, biodiesel/renewable diesel, and SAF tax credits will decide soy oil crush, corn demand, and rents. Strategy reality: Diversified ops with cattle are weathering this better than row‑crop‑only farms. My guest today is Daniel Izzo, co-founder and CEO of Vox Capital – Brazil's first impact investing firm. When Vox launched in 2009, the term "impact investing" barely existed in Latin America. There was no roadmap, just a few people who believed business could do more than serve the top of the pyramid.Daniel teamed up with Kelly Michel, co-founder of Artemisia, an accelerator for social entrepreneurs. Kelly introduced him to Antonio Ermírio de Moraes Neto, a young investor from one of Brazil's most prominent business families. Together, the three launched Vox Capital. When Vox began in 2009, few understood what they were trying to do – and fewer believed in it. “People thought it was cute... crazy... or got angry at us.” The infrastructure wasn't there. Most investors ignored 85% of the population outside their own social class. Daniel understood why – but he also knew what they were missing. His team wasn't avoiding Brazil's social challenges, but solving them. They focused on early-stage companies that could scale – businesses built for scarcity, but still desirable for all.The breakthrough came from the results. Their second fund proved returns were possible – over 30% IRR – and suddenly, the skepticism began to fade. Today, Vox manages over $300 million across VC, credit, and real estate – all aiming to unlock opportunity for Brazil's low-income communities. They invested early in a medical education company that slashed the cost of specialist training from $10,000 to $1,000 and made it available online. They also backed Latin America's leading ventilator maker, years before COVID hit. When the pandemic overwhelmed Brazil's hospitals, that company supplied over 80% of the ventilators procured by the Brazilian government during the crisis. But Vox isn't just about writing checks. They take board seats, offer strategic advice, connect founders with new markets, and help navigate major crises.Today, they're leaning into catalytic capital, reforestation, regenerative agriculture, and environmental finance – the next frontier for impact. In Brazil, where deforestation and unsustainable land use drive climate damage, Daniel sees a huge long-term opportunity. Not just to earn returns, but to restore ecosystems. When I asked him what he'd fix with a magic wand, he went straight to mindset. “It'll only be good for everyone, when it's really good for everyone.” He believes ultra-wealthy families have a responsibility to mobilize their capital for collective survival. This is a conversation about what it takes to build in a place where the challenges are complex, the urgency is real, and the opportunity is bigger than most people realize. Daniel makes the case that the next era of capital won't just be about returns – it'll be about restoration, resilience, and responsibility.Tune in.—About the SRI 360° Podcast: The SRI 360° Podcast is focused exclusively on sustainable & responsible investing. When Claude Sonnet 4.5 promises 30 hours of autonomous coding, what's the real trade-off between productivity gains and security fundamentals? When talent agencies want to represent AI-generated actresses, are we witnessing the death of human performance art or just another moral panic? And when Brazilian scammers can steal millions in $19 increments using celebrity deepfakes, who bears responsibility—the platforms, the regulators, or the users? They explore the uncomfortable economics behind AI video generation, where companies promised to cure cancer but instead delivered infinite dopamine-mining slop. The conversation digs into data center energy consumption, the exploitation of human attention, and why your grandmother clicking Facebook ads might represent democracy's newest vulnerability.George A brings a practitioner's lens to AI governance, arguing for education from elementary school up, metadata standards for content authenticity, and balanced regulation that protects innovation without enabling exploitation. George K challenges the fundamental premise: if supercomputers are being pointed at our dopamine receptors just to sell more ads, what happened to building technology that actually improves human life? Most importantly, they ask: Are we building applications that create a better future, or are we just doubling down on the attention economy? And, with multilateralism under pressure, they ask what we should be looking out for in November, and what success in Belém might look like.Joining the hosts is Thais Bilenky, Brazilian political journalist and new friend of the show, to give us the view from inside Brazil: Lula's positioning on the global stage, domestic tensions between national and regional politics, the tricky symbolism of COP in the state of Pará, and what all this means for international climate negotiations.Learn more:
