Brendan Banfield will die in prison. A Fairfax County jury convicted the former IRS special agent of aggravated murder Monday in one of the most disturbing domestic murder plots in recent memory. The 40-year-old federal law enforcement officer now faces mandatory life without parole for the February 2023 killings of his wife Christine and Joseph Ryan — a stranger prosecutors say was lured to the family home and set up to take the fall. The prosecution's case hinged on testimony from Juliana Peres Magalhães, the family's 25-year-old Brazilian au pair who was having an affair with Banfield. She told jurors Banfield wanted to "get rid of" his wife so they could marry and have children together. According to her account, they created fake profiles on FetLife posing as Christine, catfished Ryan into believing he was meeting a willing woman for a violent sexual encounter, then executed him when he showed up.Magalhães testified she watched Banfield stab Christine seven times in the neck, then stage the scene — smearing his wife's blood on Ryan's body to frame him as the attacker. She admitted firing the second shot into Ryan herself. In exchange for her testimony, prosecutors reduced her murder charge to manslaughter with time served. The defense called her a liar who sold out her co-conspirator. They pointed to missing DNA evidence, challenged the digital forensics, and accused investigators of tunnel vision. Banfield took the stand and called the allegations "absolutely crazy." The jury deliberated nine hours and disagreed. We break down the conviction, the evidence, and the appeal that's coming.#BrendanBanfield #HiddenKillers #AuPairAffair #ChristineBanfield #TrueCrime #MurderConviction #JulianaMagalhaes #FairfaxCounty #LifeWithoutParole #JosephRyanJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? AFC Bournemouth turn their attention to Wolves next, but there's more to this fixture than just three points. In this video, we question why Rob Edwards made the bold decision to leave promotion-chasing Middlesbrough for a relegation battle at Wolves, and what that tells us about the scale of the challenge facing them right now. From a Cherries perspective, the timing couldn't be more interesting. Bournemouth come into the game with momentum, confidence, and growing excitement around the squad — not least the possibility of a first appearance for exciting new Brazilian signing Rayan. Brendan Banfield just bet everything on himself. The Virginia man accused of killing his wife Christine and a stranger named Joseph Ryan took the witness stand today in Fairfax County Circuit Court. It's a move most defense attorneys advise against — once you testify, everything you say becomes ammunition for the prosecution. But Banfield apparently decided the only way to beat the au pair's testimony was to counter it directly. And counter it he did. Banfield admitted the affair with Juliana Peres Magalhães, the family's Brazilian au pair. He said it started in August 2022. But he told the jury he was upfront with her — this was just another affair, and it wasn't going to change his relationship with his wife. He said both he and Christine had strayed before. They'd gone to counseling. They'd made the decision to stay together. When asked if he plotted with the au pair to kill Christine, Banfield's response was immediate: "No, there was no plan." He called the accusation "absurd" and "absolutely crazy."The prosecution's theory is that Banfield and the au pair catfished Joseph Ryan using a fake profile on a fetish website, lured him to the house, then killed both Ryan and Christine in an elaborate staged crime scene. The au pair, who flipped on Banfield in exchange for a plea deal, testified to exactly that. Now the jury has two completely different stories. And Banfield has to survive cross-examination Thursday morning.#BrendanBanfield #TrueCrimeToday #AuPairAffair #ChristineBanfield #MurderTrial #FairfaxVirginia #JosephRyan #TrueCrimeNews #CourtTV #BreakingCrimeJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Two stunning goals turned the tie on its head as the Brazilian stole the show and reminded everyone exactly why he's becoming such a crucial player for this team.Manny and Simon heap praise on Liam Rosenior, whose tactical changes completely transformed the game, and on Robert Sánchez, whose saves kept Chelsea alive long enough for the comeback to happen. It was a performance full of character, belief, and smart in-game management. Finally, the lads turn their attention back to domestic matters with a preview of Saturday's London derby against West Ham, asking whether Chelsea can carry this European momentum into another huge test.
An insider using the pseudonym ‘Daniel', who claims to be from a secret government group called ‘Earth Force', shared his experiences with Fabio Santos, a Brazilian researcher, who wrote a book about them called Planetary Intervention. According to ‘Daniel, Specialized Elite Earth Forces have provided perimeter support for Nordic extraterrestrials meeting with Earth officials, and battled Reptilian and Grey Aliens over crashed UFOs. Daniel also revealed the long history of Reptilians coming to Earth to hunt and kill humans as part of a secret agreement dating back more than a millennia that mirrors the Predator series of movies. In the following YouTube video, I interviewed Fabio Santos about Planetary Intervention, and how and why he began researching Daniel's story. More of ‘Daniel's' experiences can be read in Planetary Intervention.Join Dr. Salla on Patreon for Early Releases, Webinar Perks and More.Visit https://Patreon.com/MichaelSalla/
Patrick and Neel break down the Premier League striker market, starting with Crystal Palace's move for Jürgen Strand Larsen and what it says about how clubs are valuing centre-forwards right now. We also get into Bournemouth's big bet on Brazilian teenager Rayan, why his profile fits the current state of the league, and whether these physical, shot-heavy forwards are the future or a temporary trend. Then it's full chaos in the Champions League. Benfica stun Real Madrid, PSG and Newcastle trade blows, and the final day of the league phase turns the table upside down. We look at who benefited, who got burned, what the new knockout bracket means, and who are the real threats for the UCL title. In this episode, we speak with Gilbert Clark, CEO of Meridian Mining, a mineral exploration and development company focused on unlocking high-value copper, gold, silver and other metal resources in Brazil. Meridian's flagship asset is the advanced Cabaçal Volcanogenic Massive Sulphide project in Mato Grosso. We discuss Meridian's recent resource milestones, how the company is positioning itself for execution and growth, the de-risking of the project, skills within the Brazilian mining industry, an update on the Brazilian mining industry and what the outlook could look like as it moves toward becoming a meaningful copper-gold producer in a critical global market. KEY TAKEAWAYS Gilbert transformed Meridian Mining from a manganese-focused company into a high-value copper and gold explorer by leveraging the historical data of a decommissioned BP/Rio Tinto project. The Cabaçal project is uniquely positioned as a "brownfield restart," meaning it has established infrastructure and historical production data that significantly mitigate geological, metallurgical, and permitting risks. Mato Grosso offers a mature mining environment with affordable hydroelectric power, established logistics from the agricultural sector, and a supportive local community and government. The greatest risk to the industry is "generational change" and a lack of skilled engineers. Meridian addresses this through deep local university partnerships and a culture of independent decision-making BEST MOMENTS "We are a fundamental building block of everyone's daily going about their business. It is mining." "For me, as a reasonably experienced private equity investor in natural resources, my fundamental concern is risk. If I'm going to deploy capital, do I risk it?" "My greatest concern long-term... is demographics. You've got to extract as much knowledge from the 45-to-50-year-old guys and transfer that into the 20-year-old men and women." "There's a fundamental rule in mining: You go to work with ten fingers and ten toes, and you go home at night with ten fingers and ten toes." In January 1996, residents of the quiet Brazilian city of Varginha began reporting something unusual in the skies above their neighborhoods. Witnesses described a low-flying object—long, cylindrical, and trailing smoke—moving erratically over the city before disappearing from view. In the days that followed, the story took on a far stranger dimension, one that would transform a routine sighting into one of the most enduring and controversial UFO cases in modern history. This week on The Micah Hanks Program, following a recent press conference held in Washington, D.C., involving a UAP case with international significance, we examine the famous Brazilian "Varginha Incident" and the reports from local civilians at the time who claimed to have encountered a small, non-human creature. Salve! This is a bonus episode for paid subscribers!Every episode is a different song. This is the song today:"Atalaia" by Guilherme CoutinhoGuilherme Coutinho was an obscure keyboardist from Belém, in Brazil's Amazon region. “Atalaia” first appeared in 1978 on Guilherme Coutinho e o Grupo Stalo, released by his hometown radio station's label. It's a laid-back song with an atmospheric groove driven by Coutinho's Fender Rhodes, and subtle analog synth lines drift in and out, adding a cosmic, slightly psychedelic feel that bridges Brazilian rhythm with 1970s fusion and ambient soul. Atalaia is a coastal town located in the north, where the river meets the ocean, and is known for its mangroves, dunes, and extreme tides, which are all referenced in the lyrics. Guilherme Coutinho passed away in 1983 at the age of 41, making this a true cult album that has been recently reissued by Mr. Bongo.Check the song's translation with TranslationSmith.

In the beginning, there was nothing but air. The supreme being breathed upon it, and the air became water. Air and water moved together, forming mud. Seeing its shape, the supreme being breathed again – and life began. Today, we'll be exploring this creation story – born of Afro-Brazilian philosophy – forged under conditions of extreme violence, displacement, and resistance. During the transatlantic slave trade, more than four million Africans were forcibly taken to Brazil – far more than were sent to the United States. They brought with them their gods, their rituals, and their philosophies. Despite sustained efforts to suppress them, these traditions not only survived, but developed into sophisticated systems of thought that remain living practices today. We'll be exploring these traditions with José Eduardo Porcher Assistant Professor of Philosophy at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil. José is currently Director of the Spiritual Realities, Relationality, and Flourishing: Brazilian Contributions to Philosophy of Religion project, and has been centrally involved in a number of major research initiatives examining alternative approaches to philosophy of religion – including the John Templeton funded project Expanding the Philosophy of Religion by Engaging with Afro-Brazilian Traditions. In this episode, we'll explore the Afro-Brazilian religious tradition of Candomblé: its account of creation, its distinctive conception of God and the deities, and its striking vision of a world enchanted by a vital life-force that flows through people, objects, nature, and the divine. We'll ask what it means to live in a world where gods possess human bodies, where objects can be sacred, and where divinity is powerful yet limited. And we'll consider what these traditions might teach us about evil, responsibility, nature, and how to live well in a world that is far stranger than Western philosophy ever thought. This episode is produced in partnership with The Global Philosophy of Religion Project at University of Birmingham, funded by the John Templeton Foundation.
