However, police investigations revealed text messages from Vorcaro seeking advice from Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, whose wife received a $25 million contract with Banco Master. Melissa is celebrating her 40th birthday with The Rizzuto Show, Rafe is preparing to claim an entire weekend for HIS birthday, and somewhere in St. Charles, a taco restaurant has fallen.We begin this comedy show with birthday business.Rafe's birthday is September 30th, but a Wednesday birthday simply isn't good enough for a man who understands branding. So he's claiming the following weekend and bringing four shows to the St. Charles Funny Bone, complete with guest comics, surprise appearances and improvised stand-up based on audience suggestions.Melissa even gets recruited to promote the shows. Her sales pitch? Rafe is hilarious, you'll laugh until you cry, and his opening comics are great, too. Rafe then requests a special birthday greeting in Melissa's signature delivery.Tickets sold... Probably.Talking about the Funny Bone naturally leads to the dining options around St. Charles, where the crew discovers the former Mission Taco/Session Taco location has apparently closed.RIP tacos. The mean streets of St. Charles remain undefeated.Fortunately, there are still plenty of options for anybody planning dinner before Rafe's show, including the possibility of absolutely destroying yourself at a Brazilian steakhouse before waddling into the comedy club carrying enough meat to hibernate through winter.Rizz knows the danger. The card stays green. The meat keeps coming.Eventually, your body starts sending emergency alerts.Rafe suggests a simple plan: MEAT up, then MEET up. Comedy AND wordplay.We're earning our FCC license today.But enough birthday promotion. It's time for the main event:Do It Bitch.Team Rafe and Melissa takes on Team Lern and Moon in a best-of-five battle where gamblers bid on how many items their partners can name from a category in ten seconds.If you think the other team has bid too high?Do it, bitch. Simple.Except nothing becomes simple once a microphone and ten-second timer are involved.The first category is standard breakfast foods.Melissa starts conservatively, but the bidding quickly climbs until Moon says Lern can name seven.Challenge accepted.Lern steps up and immediately rattles off eggs, bacon, fruit, pancakes, French toast, omelets, sausage and oatmeal. Done.She even throws in an extra answer for good measure.Team Lern and Moon takes the early lead, and Melissa gets her first lesson in competitive morning radio: Confidence is wonderful until somebody turns on the clock.Then comes geography. Oh no.The category is U.S. states that touch an ocean, with Gulf states also accepted.Lern knows Moon is well traveled and confidently opens at seven. Rafe knows Melissa specifically warned him before the game that geography might not be her strongest category. Unfortunately, gambling requires courage.The bid reaches eight. Lern calls it. Melissa is up.New York. New Jersey. Pennsylvania. Maine. Michigan. And then everything falls apart. Pennsylvania isn't helping. Michigan is busy hanging out with the Great Lakes. And suddenly the Pacific Coast may as well be located on another planet.Melissa discovers the brutal truth of this comedy show: knowing something while sitting comfortably at home and knowing something while Rizz stares at you with ten seconds on the clock are two completely different forms of intelligence.Round three brings soft drinks. Surely this will be easier.The bidding climbs all the way to nine brands, and Lern gets another opportunity to put the game away.Pepsi. Coca-Cola. Dr Pepper. Mountain Dew. 7UP. Sprite. Mr. Pibb. A&W Root Beer. And then… “Mother EFF!” TIME.She nearly gets there, but her insistence on saying “we have” between practically every answer burns precious seconds.Suddenly Rafe and Melissa are still alive. Barely. Meanwhile, another mystery has developed inside the studio. There is something weird on the door. It's wet. It's greasy. Nobody knows exactly what it is. People keep touching it despite repeatedly discussing how disgusting it feels.Eventually, the working theory becomes that somebody used the wrong cleaning product on the door plates while preparing for the boss to visit. This does not stop the show from giving the substance a significantly worse nickname. Professional broadcasting.Round four arrives. The category: Musical instruments. This should be perfect for Moon. Lern immediately says he can name nine. Rafe knows she's probably right. So when the bidding reaches ten for Melissa, there's nowhere left to run. Do it.Melissa needs ten instruments in ten seconds to keep her team alive. She steps to the microphone.Bass. Drums. Violin. Harp. And then the human brain simply closes for business. Panic. Silence. The birthday girl is toast.Team Lern and Moon wins, with Rafe giving Lern full credit for playing a ridiculously strong game. Unfortunately, this is Do It Bitch. Winning isn't merely about pride. The losers get shot with an airsoft gun. And because Melissa wanted the COMPLETE Rizz Show birthday experience, she's apparently willing to take her punishment.Moon is considerably less enthusiastic about shooting a guest. Rizz insists. Moon refuses. An ethical debate erupts over who should administer the punishment, complete with arguments about executioners, judges, feminism and whether refusing to shoot the birthday girl actually represents equality. Totally normal workplace discussion. Eventually Lern steps in to handle it. Melissa gets into position.Three… Two… One… SHOT. And her reaction? Basically nothing.After all that buildup, Melissa says it didn't really hurt. She's had Nerf darts hurt worse.The crew is stunned because everybody else acts like getting hit with this thing is equivalent to being struck by artillery.Melissa casually explains that she's probably going to bruise but otherwise seems completely unbothered.Rafe's medical diagnosis? Maybe she has an ass-circulation problem. Excellent.So what have we learned? Rafe is commandeering an entire weekend for his birthday. Brazilian steakhouses should come with recovery rooms. Lern is terrifyingly good at breakfast. Melissa should avoid geography categories. Saying “we have” nine times is a terrible speed-game strategy. Four musical instruments can suddenly feel like the complete history of music. Never touch unidentified substances on studio doors. Football as a Vehicle for Change: Using Football Stories for Social Impact with Kely Nascimento This week's podcast guest is Kely Nascimento – founder and CEO of The Impact Game, President of the Nascimento Foundation, global sport and narrative strategist, and daughter of Brazilian legend Pelé. Kely's career has travelled through art school, graphic design, photography, theatre, and content creation, before converging on purpose-driven storytelling in football, particularly in women's sport and social impact. Drawing on a life lived between Brazil, the United States, and Paris, she has developed a unique lens on how art, culture, and human behaviour intersect with football. In this conversation, we go deep into storytelling as a tool for social change, why football is such a powerful vehicle for humanity's stories, and how better listening, empathy, and diversity in decision-making can unlock the "untapped power" of women's narratives in sport. During the podcast chat we spoke about: Football is the vehicle, not the destination Kely's real subject is people, not sport. Football is simply a powerful global stage to explore human behaviour, identity, culture, and social issues. If you love something outside sport (art, music, law, education), you can still bring that into football as your vehicle. The best storytelling starts with understanding yourself Every story passes through your personal "filter" of experiences, beliefs and biases. Effective storytellers keep doing inner work: understanding who they are, what they value, and how that shapes the way they see and retell stories. Listening and asking are more important than talking Kely emphasises active listening: asking questions, letting people finish, and then clarifying instead of assuming. Great storytelling often comes from hearing what people struggle to say and helping them express it—without putting your own meaning on top. Who tells the story matters as much as the story itself There's a big difference between: A group of powerful people telling women's or marginalised communities' stories for them, versus Creating space, resources, and platforms for those communities to tell their own stories. Brands, federations, and media need to move from "consulting women" to letting women lead narrative creation. Context and culture are non‑negotiable in social impact Real impact requires understanding what people actually want in their own context. The Zanzibar example shows this: changing school schedules, working with imams, and respecting religious and cultural norms did more for girls' sport than any top‑down "liberation" message could. Feminism is about choice, not one 'correct' path Whether it's wearing a hijab, changing your surname, or how you present your identity, Kely stresses that feminism means women deciding for themselves—not swapping one set of prescriptions (patriarchal) for another (a narrow version of "modern freedom"). Joy is fuel for sustainable storytelling work Kely separates joy from constant happiness. Joy is the deep sense of meaning you get from the work, even when parts of it are hard (like editing, travel, or friction with institutions). To last in this space, you must find and protect the joy in the process, not only in outcomes. Forty companies own 70 percent of the hogs in this country. Fewer than 100 plants slaughter 99.7 percent of them. Small farms running their own processing account for 0.3 percent of the pork on shelves, 2 percent of the beef. So when a menu names a farm, the math says it almost never is one. Greg Gunthorp is a fourth generation pastured hog farmer in Indiana, 400 sows on 275 acres, with a USDA-inspected plant on his own farm and pork sold by name at Rick Bayless restaurants, including inside Disney. In 1998 hogs were bringing 8 cents a pound minus trucking. He maxed his credit cards, pulled pennies out of his daughter's piggy bank for a school field trip, and drove a pig packed in ice in the back of his wife's Suzuki Swift into Chicago, where Wine Spectator had just named the restaurant he was selling to the best in the world. Then the big packers noticed. He calls it winning a few battles and losing the war, shadow brands priced 25 to 40 percent over commodity, selling the same conventional product the independent farmers built their name on. Until January of 2026, foreign meat repackaged here could legally say Product of USA on the label. The 2025 Across-Breed EPD (Expected Progeny Difference) Table, released by the Beef Improvement Federation (BIF) and compiled by geneticists Larry Kuehn and Mark Thallman at the USDA U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC), provides key performance benchmarks for the Gelbvieh breed compared to other beef breeds (using Angus as the baseline). Additionally, historical and cumulative USMARC Germplasm Evaluation (GPE) data highlights several notable performance characteristics of the Gelbvieh breed.  Key Performance Benchmarks Moderate Mature Size: In USMARC multi-breed evaluations, Gelbvieh stands out for having a significantly reduced and moderate mature cow weight (averaging roughly 145 lbs lighter than the Angus baseline). Carcass Weight: +1.5 lbs  JBS Executive Met With Trump One Day Before Beef Import Announcement New reporting is raising questions about the timing of a meeting between a major JBS shareholder and President Donald Trump. According to The Wall Street Journal, Joesley Batista, a major shareholder in Brazilian meatpacker JBS, met with Trump at the White House on August 20th. The meeting reportedly included discussions about whether lowering the 26-percent tariff on Brazilian beef could help reduce high U.S. beef prices. The meeting happened just one day before Trump announced a major expansion of tariff-free beef imports. On August 21st, Trump announced that up to 300-thousand metric tons of beef, or about 661 million pounds, could enter the U.S. over the next 90 days without the additional tariff. Trump said the imported beef would be sold at 25 percent below current market prices. The administration says the move is designed to give consumers some relief from high beef prices while American ranchers rebuild the nation's cattle herd. But cattle groups are concerned. U.S. Cattlemen's Association President Justin Tupper says additional imports could hurt the market signals that are encouraging ranchers to rebuild their herds. National Cattlemen's Beef Association CEO Colin Woodall also says the policy could trade long-term herd expansion for short-term price relief. Montana Farmers Union President Walter Schweitzer says the 300-thousand metric tons sounds like a lot, but represents only about 2 percent of annual U.S. beef consumption. Schweitzer says the bigger concern is how packers and buyers could use the additional supply to pressure cattle prices. The timing of the Batista meeting has also drawn attention because JBS is one of the four largest beef processors in the United States. JBS is headquartered in Brazil but has a major presence in the American beef industry. The reporting does not establish that Batista caused or influenced Trump's decision to expand tariff-free beef imports. The administration had already been looking at ways to increase beef supplies and lower consumer prices. Meanwhile, Trump has also been criticizing consolidation in the beef packing industry and calling for ranchers to have more opportunities to process their own cattle. The bigger question for cattle producers is whether increased imports will actually lower prices for consumers — and whether those imports could weaken the market incentives ranchers need to rebuild the American cattle herd. It's called the Ranchers First Initiative, and USDA says it builds on the Trump Administration's plan announced last October to strengthen the American beef industry.  The initiative focuses on five major areas. First — Helping Ranchers Keep More Heifers USDA is creating a new insurance option called the Beef Retention and National Development, or BRAND, endorsement. The goal is to make it easier for ranchers to keep heifers for breeding instead of sending them to the feedlot. The program would provide insurance protection for the economic value of keeping that heifer as part of the breeding herd for up to two years. Second — Helping Ranchers Recover After Disasters USDA is expanding the use of the Emergency Conservation Program, or ECP, on certain Grassland Conservation Reserve Program acres. That means ranchers could use the program to rebuild fences, water systems and other critical infrastructure after wildfires and other natural disasters. The goal is to get ranches back up and running faster and help protect the nation's cattle inventory. Third — Expanding Local and Regional Beef Processing USDA is expanding its efforts to strengthen smaller, regional beef processors. A new SPUR Guaranteed Loan Program will help processors expand, create cooperatives and increase processing capacity. USDA is also creating a Regional Processor Continuity Effort to help small and mid-sized processors stay in business and become more resilient. The department says nearly 20 percent of current beef processing capacity could become available as the cattle herd grows, creating an opportunity for more American-owned processors and cooperatives. Fourth — Putting More American Beef in Government Food Programs USDA says it will prioritize American-raised beef in federal food purchasing. That could include beef purchased for places such as prisons, hospitals, schools and other government institutions. The goal is to increase demand for American beef while supporting U.S. ranchers and locally owned processors. And Fifth — Bringing More New Ranchers Into the Business USDA says it will expand support for beginning and veteran farmers and ranchers. New producers can receive help through FSA loans, conservation programs, livestock insurance and other resources. USDA also plans to work with the Department of War and the Department of Veterans Affairs to help servicemembers transition into careers in agriculture. Trump says the idea is designed to reduce the power of the country's largest beef processors. In a social media post Friday, August 28 Trump said he has directed legal documents to be prepared that would give farmers and ranchers more freedom to process their own livestock. But the details of the plan are still unclear. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins says USDA plans to announce changes that could include removing outdated regulations, waiving some requirements and making it easier for ranchers to sell meat across state lines. The administration may also provide more support for small meat processors. But the Meat Institute says ranchers already have several options, including custom processing and state or federally inspected facilities. The group warns that allowing uninspected meat to be sold commercially could put food safety and consumer confidence at risk. The National Cattlemen's Beef Association agrees, saying weakening federal meat inspection standards is not the answer. The South Dakota Cattlemen's Association is also opposing the idea. The group says producers can already process animals for their own use, but generally cannot sell uninspected meat commercially. Their message is simple: food safety is not red tape, and consumer confidence is not optional. Trump's proposal comes just one week after his announcement allowing an additional 300-thousand metric tons of imported grinding beef into the United States without the additional tariff. Cattle groups have opposed that move as well, saying more imported beef could pressure cattle prices and discourage ranchers from rebuilding the U.S. herd. Trump says both policies are aimed at lowering beef prices for consumers while helping American ranchers. M and W Beef Packers in Mandan has been in business for more than 50 years, and the three current owners are now retiring. The company was founded in 1974 by Wesley and Vita Moore and has operated continuously ever since. The sale includes the company, a 7-thousand-square-foot USDA-inspected processing plant, a separate garage and shop, and all of the equipment. And despite the owners' decision to retire, the business has been growing. Revenue more than doubled over a three-year period through 2024, reaching 4-point-4 million dollars. The company reported an annual growth rate of more than 20 percent during that time, with gross margins near 24 percent. M and W processes and supplies beef, pork, lamb and bison to restaurants, hotels, grocery stores and institutional customers. Its products are distributed through major companies including Cash-Way, Sysco and US Foods. The company also produces its own Dakota Trails brand of seasonings, which are sold at more than 13 regional retail locations. M and W Beef Packers has been an independent meat processor serving ranchers and customers across the Northern Plains for more than five decades. Now, with the current owners retiring, the future of this long-standing Mandan business is up for grabs. Famous Brazilian football/soccer star Bruno Fernandes de Souza had the mother of his child, Eliza Samudio, kidnapped, murdered, dismembered, and allegedly fed to a pack of Rottweilers. At the height of his career, Bruno was the celebrated goalkeeper and captain of Flamengo, one of Brazil's biggest football clubs, with fame, money, and an adoring fanbase. But behind that superstar image was an increasingly vicious battle with 25-year-old Eliza Samudio, a former model who became pregnant with Bruno's child and demanded that he acknowledge the baby and provide financial support. Eliza reported threats and violence, sought protection from the courts, and warned that she feared Bruno would kill her. Then, in June 2010, she disappeared. Tom Luddy was a quiet titan of cinema. He presided over the Pacific Film Archive in Berkeley for some 10 years, co-founded and directed the Telluride Film Festival for nearly 50 years, produced some 14 movies, match-made dozens of international love affairs, and foraged for the most beautiful, political, important, risky films and made sure there was a place for them to be seen in the world. And he made sure that the people making this powerful work were known and knew each other. Tom Luddy with his photographic memory, his infinite rolodex, his encyclopedic knowledge of global cinema and his catalytic ability to connect people, caused the most unusual of collaborations to come to be. Tom championed the French New Wave, the Czech New Wave, Brazilian cinema novo, dissident Soviet cinema, directors Francis Coppola, Jean-Luc Godard, Werner Herzog, Agnes Varda, Les Blank, Paul Schrader, Agnieszka Holland, Barry Jenkins, Laurie Anderson and countless others.Tom passed away on February 13, 2023. There's a giant hole in the screen without him here. But his DNA is in the hundreds of filmmakers, musicians, writers and activists he nurtured and inspired.
