Messy Family Podcast : Catholic conversations on marriage and family
Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. Genesis 2:24 Summary Unity between man and woman was God's original plan, but the Fall not only broke our relationship with God, it also broke our relationship with each other. But the good news is that Jesus has given us grace in the sacrament of Matrimony so we can have a oneness in marriage that would be impossible otherwise! With unity, couples can handle anything life dishes out. Without it, even the easy things will seem hard. Couples need to constantly be striving for unity, because if spouses aren't intentional, those marriages will drift apart! In this podcast, we will give you three tools - honoring, forgiveness, and vulnerability - that you can use to start moving towards your spouse. We need to intentionally use these tools to work towards the greater unity within the gift of marriage that God has for us. Key Takeaways All couples must strive for unity - if you float along, you will drift apart Unity was what we were made for, but the fall introduced distrust into the male/female relationships There are three things you can do to move towards unity: honoring, forgiveness, and vulnerability On the scale of Affirmation/Criticism, choose to honor your spouse, even publicly to build them up On the scale of Resentment/Forgiveness, choose to forgive them instead of being resentful of their shortcomings On the scale of Detachment/Intimacy we need to choose vulnerability and openness to our spouse. Couple Discussion Questions On a scale of 1-10, how are we doing in our unity? In which of the three areas can we do better? Which one of these three areas is the most challenging for me? Why do I think that is? For this episode, David is joined by Brian Beckcom who is a computer scientist, philosopher, lawyer, and Aggies graduate (Texas A&M). He and David discuss a wide range of topics starting with the role education plays in creating a firm foundation on which to build success. They also discuss how AI is going to impact our ability to communicate, how to use pacing and stories to be persuasive, and how taking the middle path leads to success while helping others. To explore how to get unstuck on your mission, put your purpose into practice, and convert your ideas into impact book a discovery call with David here https://calendly.com/david-peoplewithpurpose/30min KEY TAKEAWAYS All successful people can work with groups, are self-motivated, and not afraid to set challenging goals. Successful businesses have a purpose that goes beyond making money. We are reaching the point where many people cannot tell the difference between AI and something a human has created. Humans have always used stories to communicate and find common understanding. Never start a persuasive conversation by telling someone that they are wrong. Be realistic about what drives people and use that when trying to persuade others. By providing what others need, you can always make money ethically Law is the manifestation of our ethical beliefs about certain things. BEST MOMENTS “You have to have some purpose beyond making money.” “A moral person tries to get those economic incentives to line up with the moral incentives.” “I believe that in general the middle path is usually the correct one.” EPISODE RESOURCES https://www.instagram.com/brianbeckcomlawyer https://www.vbattorneys.com https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCI5qM4nBh5xEZOb0jDfiAjw ABOUT THE SHOW People with purpose make a difference. What a world that would be - People everywhere finding meaning and harnessing that to bring inspiration and energy to each and every day, changing lives for the better. But no one ever achieved anything on their own - we all have something unique to bring and that means we all have to play our part - if we want to go far, we have to go together and lead or serve towards a vision of the world we want to see. Everyone has a story to tell, and this show is where these stories come to life. Pat Libby visits the Nonprofit SnapCast to talk about her work with the San Diego Bird Alliance and her book, The Empowered Citizens Guide. They discuss the importance of lobbying for non-profits, the legalities involved, and practical steps for organizations to start their lobbying efforts. Key Takeaways: All non-profits should be involved in advocacy and lobbying, as these activities are crucial for advancing their missions. For example, a symphony orchestra might lobby for music education to ensure its future. To encourage non-profits to engage in lobbying, they should align their activities with their mission, as many missions relate to public policy. Examples include advocating for mandated reporting laws for computer repair technicians and extending housing support for foster youth. Mid-sized organizations can gain recognition and influence through lobbying, which enhances their impact. Non-profits inherently deal with political considerations, making it essential for them to engage in policy discussions. For non-profits looking to start lobbying, the first step is to educate the board about lobbying rules. Signing the 501H form allows organizations to lobby more freely without complicating their audits. We welcome support of the Nonprofit SnapCast via Patreon. We welcome your questions and feedback via The Nonprofit Snapshot website.
Key Takeaways: All-in-One Toolbox: GitLab is like a super-powered toolkit for software developers. It helps teams plan projects, write code together, test their work, and even launch the finished product. No more juggling a bunch of different tools – GitLab does it all! Try It for Free, Upgrade for More: GitLab offers a basic version for free, but if you want all the bells and whistles, you'll need to pay a subscription. It's like a video game with a free trial, then you pay to unlock the full experience. Big Potential, But a Long Way to Go: For GitLab to be a truly amazing investment in my mind, I need to feel it's able to grow 100 times from where it is right now in the next ten years. That's a HUGE jump! The Future of Teamwork: GitLab is leading the way in how teams work together using technology. Their tools help people collaborate faster and more efficiently, no matter where they are in the world. Cautious Optimism: I'm a bit skeptical about GitLab reaching that valuation in a decade, but I'm keeping an open mind. I'll be doing more research to see if it really has that much potential. We've all heard mitochondria described as “the powerhouse of the cell”. But what we know now is that mitochondria have a second role beyond being energy generators, and are of central importance in human physiology. Today we're discussing everything you need to know about mitochondria, specifically how the story of energy and the story of aging are very much centered around the health of our mitochondria. Luckily, the loss of mitochondria is not a natural product of aging, and there are ways to support and rebuild our mitochondrial networks as we get older. I'm joined by Ari Whitten, M.S., the founder of The Energy Blueprint. We take a deep dive into how mitochondria work, including the second role they play as environmental sensors. We also discuss how to support and maintain your mitochondria, and the best supplements for optimizing your mitochondria. If you struggle with chronic fatigue, you'll want to tune in to learn how mitochondria is impacting your energy levels, and what you can do about it. Ari Whitten, M.S. is the best-selling author of The Ultimate Guide To Red Light Therapy, and Eat For Energy: How To Beat Fatigue, and Supercharge Your Mitochondria For All-Day Energy. He has a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, certifications from the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Corrective Exercise Specialist and Performance Enhancement Specialist, has completed extensive graduate training in Clinical Psychology, and holds a Master of Science degree in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine. Ari is a tireless researcher who has obsessively devoted the last 27 years of his life to the pursuit of being on the cutting edge of the science on health and human energy optimization. What we discuss: 00:02:46 - How to start with supporting your mitochondria 00:11:28 - How mitochondria can impact your energy levels 00:18:27 - Why losing mitochondria is not a natural product of aging 00:22:22 - Ways to maintain mitochondria 00:25:20 - Melatonin production 00:30:06 - Light exposure and melatonin production 00:41:33 - Supporting your mitochondria at the foundational level 00:47:57 - EMF sensitivity 00:56:04 - The blueprint to optimizing your mitochondria 01:02:49 - The most powerful supplements for optimizing your mitochondria Key Takeaways: All the same things that boost our mitochondrial capacity for energy production are also going to translate into increased longevity and resistance to disease. The loss of mitochondria is not a natural product of aging, but is the result of modern lifestyles. Challenging your mitochondria by living a more active lifestyle will help support and rebuild your mitochondrial networks as you get older. Mitochondria have a second role beyond their role as energy generators, and that is as environmental sensors. Not only are the mitochondria actually producing energy, they are making the decision on whether or not to produce that energy. This episode shifts gears a bit to a different type of business. If you are a first responder who enjoys cars, this kind of business may be of interest to you. During our interview today, we will hear from our guest about how he made his hobby his business. He has been a car fanatic since he was a kid and has always dreamed of achieving his dream by owning a shop related to his passion. As we always say, it is better to have a side hustle than to rely solely on your day job because this will not be your sole source of income for the foreseeable future. And hey, we support small businesses, and if you are a first responder interested in trying Scott's products, we have a discount code you can use. Website is Shop - 911 Shine Discount Code: FRFF. But if you are not a first responder but would love to buy car products, you could go shopping on - Element Armor®. Scott Tenney works in the same department as Mike. From an early age, he was fascinated by auto detailing and has had his passion ever since. For this reason, he thought of selling his own car products. Today, he runs a small business and deals online and on Amazon. Why you need to check today's episode: Learn how you can enter the car product business if you are a car enthusiast who knows what you need. Find out the different car wash product types and why labels are important. Learn how to start selling your products. Discover how to sell even if you aren't familiar with marketing strategies. I think people are afraid to take that leap of faith. And that's really where entrepreneurs differentiate. You got to take that risk. That risk has a reward. - Scott Tenney Topics Covered: 1:14 - “I always caught an interest. As a kid, my dad said, when I started talking about 10 - 11 years old, just always sparked my interest. The only family member I have in the fire department is my uncle. He was the battalion chief in Baltimore City.” This is Scott's story about how he found his interest in firefighting so early in his life. 2:25 “So I worked with some chemical blending companies and came out with my own couple of products just had four of them just to start out. And I was using them to detail the cars. And after details, people come up to, like, scrape. How can I maintain this? Do you guys sell the stuff? And it kind of spit bought off of that I would end up selling the products afterward, after the details and didn't have a label or anything on it. But I saw the potential in it that, hey, people could buy this just straight up and make some money off, you know, an upgrade or a just a side thing on top of it. And so that kind of split the boat into what it was what it became today. As a kid, he'd always been interested in cars, prompting him to take it up as a side business. In recent years, he has developed his own line of carwash products. 12:05 “So the company I work with, they didn't require like any deposit or anything, per se. Once we got things rolling, I started out with four products, and we worked together with them. There were more basic products, like your basic carwashes, nothing too complex. But it was you pay. So the way that the company I work with does it, they pay for the add-ons that you want. So if you're fine with it being whatever color it comes out naturally, then you don't want any dye or anything specific. That's going to be less money.” What was his initial investment in the business, and how did he start it? 18:05 “I have everything that I need to package and label and shelves to stock it up on, and then I also keep a shelf of all the products at my house just in case somebody calls me. Hey, can you bring this in tomorrow at work or whatever, just need to mail something small out, and it's convenient in that aspect too. But everything else, I get the labels, and I get made somewhere, the bottles I get from somewhere, the sprayers I get from somewhere, and I bring it all together and package it.” DIY is how Scott makes his car wash products. Find out how you can do it yourself. 29:57 “So I'm terrible at that. That's one of my weaknesses, and I need to get better at it. Maybe hire somebody that does marketing or somebody that can help me with social media marketing and things like that. But as far as how I acquire sales, my number one best way to do it is as car shows like live car shows. I go to car shows. So some locally, some national set of a booth. And those do the best for me outside of word of mouth, then the website does second best, and Amazon and I have an eBay store.” How can you make money if you are bad at marketing? You will learn how to do it as you go. If you still need to figure out marketing techniques, Scott gives you some tips on how to start selling. 38:17 “ I don't think I have all my products on there. At the moment, I just have some of my top sellers on there because they do charge. And if you do fulfill by Amazon, and they take an even bigger one, but obviously it gets it distributed a lot faster and a lot easier.” Here's how Scott got started and put his products on Amazon. 49:41 - “I'd say keep going and be honest. Be honest with yourself. Keep your keep motivated. Do what you want to do in life, and get what you want out of life. And just keep your head up and keep going. Sometimes life sucks. Sometimes you come across hurdles, especially in our profession, but You know, just keep going, don't give up. Don't let anything discourage you or people discourage you. If you want to do something, make it happen, like, just follow through with it and find a way.” His advice for the younger versions of himself and for those just starting out. Key Takeaways “All of those steps are like micro steps in the journey, like where do I go get the labels, how do I get the labels made? How do I get them formatted? Well, I need the lettering this way and the rest of it this way. You know, there's all these little things that nobody thinks about until you're actually doing it. Yeah. And you know, I've been on that journey right now with the storage. It sounds super simple, like you're running a box, right? But there are all these little micro steps in it that you don't think about until you come across them.” - Mike Webb “most of the people that I know that are very successful are people who are just figuring it out as they go along. Right? Very rarely do I meet somebody, and they're like, hey, you know what, I perfected housekeeping before I ever flipped the house. Or, in Scott's case, I'm sure that the first product that you ever created, I'm sure was not your best product. But it got you to the next indicated step where you had to learn about bottling, labeling, marketing, sales, and all these things. And then you get better and better and better. And the hardest part is just getting people to trust enough to say, Hey, if you really want to do something, just jump. I mean, usually, failure is not fatal unless we're jumping out of a plane without a parachute, right? And I made plenty of mistakes. And as you said, Mike, everybody sees the big checks or things like that for real estate specifically, but nobody sees like when you get a call in the middle of the night because your contractor smashed your septic tank the day before the House is supposed to close escrow or all these different things. Whatever business I'm sure you can think of an example. But the biggest thing was Scott had an idea. He figured out a little bit and then kept going and going and going and then now you said okay, well I have my core brand. And then because I'm a fireman and I want to do something a little bit different.” - Tyler Thrush “I think people are afraid to take that leap of faith. And that's really where entrepreneurs differentiate, I think you got to take that risk, that risk has a reward. So I think a lot of people just rather play it safe and be like, I'll just clock in nine to five and hopefully get a retirement whereas we're all building something better than that. I don't want to rely on my retirement solely because anything could happen, if you just gotta take that risk, though.” - Scotty Tenny Resources: 911 Shine - Shop - 911 Shine Element Armor: Shop - Element Armor® Connect with First Responder Financial Freedom: Website: https://firstresponderfinancialfreedom.com/ Facebook Page: https://www.facebook.com/First-Responder-Financial-Freedom-104285545708905 Facebook Group:https://www.facebook.com/groups/516680892660393 YouTube: First Responder Financial Freedom - YouTube

In this episode of the Digital Business Evolution podcast, we get to find out what it's like to become an overnight celebrity and learn about the pressures that come with such status; all the while, dealing with an identity crisis as your ego goes to war with your spiritual self. Jess sits down today with Kelly Chase from the hit Netflix Series “Love is Blind”. Kelly unpacks her journey and talks about feelings of being stuck and doing the same dance for years before taking action to change her life! Discover how fame does not always equate to an easy route to success and that having a high number of followers on social media does not equal revenue. Kelly gets vulnerable in this episode going into details about feelings of jealousy over her costars, not feeling worthy of love, how her business transitioned without her and even going back to her 9-5 career job. Wrapping up the show Jess and Kelly talk about showing up on bad days, and being vulnerable with that truth. Key Takeaways: All it takes is one person to change the trajectory of your life and that's one of the biggest powers that social media has. A huge following does not equate to revenue, as more followers can hurt you because of how the algorithm works if they are not engaged with your business offerings. When it comes to being more vulnerable on social media ask yourself: What is the intention behind this? What is the audience going to get out of this? And if it's too early to share with an audience as it can also hurt them; but on the flip side, sometimes sharing sooner can help you heal faster and connect you more with people. Agustín Da Fieno Delucchi is the Director, Data and Applied Science - DTP Intl Eng, Docs & Learn at Microsoft. He has been in the computer industry since 1992, initially developing enterprise solutions and for most of his career on internationalization and localization. Originally from Lima, Peru, he has worked in different areas of software development. Initially in Dublin, for about a decade, and in Seattle since 2006, he's been with Microsoft for more than 20 years in several internationalization roles as terminologist, linguist, translator, engineer, program manager, architect, advisor, and data & applied scientist. With a passion for data development and analysis, he is currently focusing on artificial intelligence for internationalization. Agustín is also an instructor at the University of Washington Professional Certificate in Localization. KEY TAKEAWAYS All businesses are comprised of data. Data means power in today's world, that's why Data Science is one of the most important sciences now. In near future, Data Science helps us to do everything way faster than today. If you want to apply it to your company and understand it better, you can look at DDDM (Data-Driven Decision Making) first. Notwithstanding, we can't talk about being successful in Data Science if we ignore the human effect, especially if your business is dealing with humans. BEST MOMENTS “Internationalization is how to brain the experiences you offer in a global manner, how can you go beyond the barriers of just your locality or the initial user based that you intended to serve.” “Moving into proactive approach will be ‘how can we use the data we had in the past? How can we learn from the past to predict the future to enable the present?'” “We are seeing with all their businesses that there are currently aided by data science is that many of routines, tasks, or tasks that today we require more manual process certainly would be more automated. If we think about automation today in the industry, we use a lot of automation, call it auto-translation, call it machine translation.” "Many aspects of internationalization are related to some sensitive uses. What we took about the health industry, if we took about critical business for the world, in general, you really want to make sure that you provide the ultimate thing. But in some cases, it is very and highly sensitive what you're doing. So, it is important that we are intentionally interested in how far we want to go. You can have entire system that do everything for you and there is no human intervention but again I don't see that being truly successful if you're dealing with the spirits of the humans.” “One thing that I recommend is to do research about this called DDDM, which is the data-driven decision making, which sees a whole scope and is really well documented. There are plenty of resources online that you can look at it because it is a whole process that you can establish your organization without even have to first invest a lot in data scientist.” ABOUT THE HOST Levent Yildizgoren, the author of 'Good Business in any Language', is an award-winning entrepreneur, localisation professional, and a PRINCE2 qualified project manager. When we hold onto peace from a healthy place, we can allow our humanness to be integrated and part of our spiritual journey. Spirituality isn't to avoid - it is to walk through the spiritual fire of the circumstances with peace and knowing that it doesn't change your values and you can still continue to walk in peace and love. That in marketing, it's not creativity that is what empowers you. It's consistency and clear intention, clear decision and clarity of destination." - Amy Ransdell "Probably the biggest lesson as coaches, we have sometimes to step in, ask the tough questions and help people say no to things in order to say yes to themselves." - Amy Ransdell "The only way to scale and the only way to have the freedom but still continue to grow your gross commission income or grow the revenue for your investing business, whatever that is, is you've got to use people to do things for you." - Amy Ransdell "The earlier that you can adopt the mentality of outsourcing to someone to be able to scale and do more and be more efficient with your time, the earlier you're going to have greater results." - Amy Ransdell "Go hire people to fill in for your weaknesses, and then let go and let them do it." - Amy Ransdell "Don't just abdicate and walk away, do work with your virtual assistants, and do empower them to do their job for you." - Amy Ransdell *This episode has been brought to you in part by Bluehost web hosting. In this episode, Robin chats with Panos Siozos, co-founder and CEO of LearnWorlds, an e-learning platform allowing companies and individuals to create their own online training school. He shares how the platform is used to onboard their own developers/technical staff, ways to encourage continued learning in a remote environment, and ways to streamline the creation of learning content for your courses. “Success is not being defined by all the things we know, or how excellent we are at what we do today, but I guess it's more determined by how fast we learn and how fast we adapt to the new ways of doing things” – PanosAbout Panos SiozosPanos Siozos has a Ph.D. in Educational Technology, with a specialization in Computer Assisted Assessment. He's a co-founder and CEO of LearnWorlds; an e-learning company focused on transforming self-paced online learning. He has extensive work experience as a computer science educator and as a software engineer and IT manager.About LearnWorldsLearnWorld offers professional trainers, training organizations, and businesses a hassle-free way to create their own, personally branded online school where they can offer courses directly to the public as individual courses, bundles, or subscriptions.Key Takeaways:All employees hired at LearnWorlds go through training by taking courses designed for their job role directly through the LearningWorlds platform. This helps them not only learn about the job, but also gives them firsthand experience of how the platform works and what it's like to use it.Companies that use an online platform for their onboarding program should focus on repurposing existing content that can be shared across the organization. Course content can be created through many channels, such as through recorded internal meetings or webinars created for a specific customer or audience. You can take existing content and reframe it into the context you want to teach it without reinventing the wheel. Learning content doesn't always need to be polished as long as it's relevant. Sometimes growth happens too fast to keep up with training content, so repurposing can be sufficient. If you provide employees with a place and the infrastructure to exchange ideas and teach each other, growth and continued learning tend to happen organically. People actually like to share what they know and to help other people in turn, healping to create learner and user generated content through discussions and open forums.“It's an environment of constant challenges and problem solving this is what drives us forward” – Panos Even when working remotely, you can engage staff in a culture of learning. You can do this by giving them interesting problems to solve, by communicating expectations and company direction clearly, and by continuing to foster and build personal connections with your team members. You can encourage learning and growth with some of your most senior team members by giving them opportunities to teach or mentor more junior staff on the team; thus, giving them a new challenge to keep them engaged. Today's episode is the exciting start of all of the juicy newness of The Intimate Marriage Podcast. I've invited my husband, Rodd Stockwell, MD, back to the podcast to discuss how we've kept our marriage feeling new and fresh over the last 25 years. We dive into the nature of how desires naturally change over time, overcoming the fear of expressing those desires, and cultivating uncompromising intimacy. While this is one of those conversations that could go on for hours, tune in to hear this bite-sized chunk all about keeping it fresh! IN THIS EPISODE: [03:43] Rodd's response to one of my most asked questions: How does your relationship stay exciting after 25 years of marriage? [06:14] Are things boring in our bedroom? [11:16] Uncompromising intimacy and growing to prioritize our experience. [14:11] Overcoming the fear of expressing desires. [17:21] The importance of how you listen when your partner shares. [20:37] A practical application of open communication about one's feelings and desires. [21:34] The role curiosity plays in continuously arising emotions and desires. KEY TAKEAWAYS: All people change naturally over time and have new desires that arise. It's about honoring what's arising in each other that makes it different and new and fresh. If one person is overriding fear and expressing a desire, then there's somebody listening and how that person listens is incredibly important. It takes courage to take the risk to suggest trying something new. But it begins with not letting the fear win. The thing that keeps a relationship spicy and alive is cultivating uncompromising intimacy. The ability to be aware of how you feel, and develop the ability to express it to your partner, and receive and hear when your partner shares. Welcome to the Unlimited Influence: Reprogram your Subconscious Mind with Dr. David Snyder. Today, we will talk about the HIDDEN laws of attraction. Listen to this episode to learn how you can attract the things you want and have the life you desire. Standout Quotes: “I'm very critical not because NLP is bad or hypnosis is better or whatever, is that most of the people who learn it can't use it.” “The quality of your life is determined by the quality of the questions you ask.” “The feelings in your body will pull events in your life that generate similar feelings. Not the event necessarily that you think. But the feeling.” “If you learn to observe properly, the universe will reveal its secrets to you.” “If you are waiting to be confident before you can do something, you will never start.” “Failure is only possible when you set a time limit.” “We don't have any conscious connection to the way the world is. We only have a connection to the way the world should be.” “Just develop relentless determination, and you'll be successful.” Key Takeaways: All metaphysical disciplines and all religions that grew out of those disciplines come from “Hermetics.” They are based on the principles recorded by Hermes thousands of years ago that explains how the universe works. We have two kinds of thoughts: One is the thoughts we know about, and the other is thoughts we don't know about. Our brain is the world's largest, most powerful information processing network. It's also the most obsessive-compulsive question answering mechanism on the planet. The vibrations we put out to the universe are directly connected to the feelings in our bodies. Everything that manifests in your life is based on the feelings in your body. The fastest way to change your feelings is to change your posture. Change your breathing. Not your thoughts because your physiology controls your psychology. Our physiology always overwrites our psychology. So you can't use the law of attraction effectively without changing your physiology. And you can't access your feelings without changing your physiology. As long as you have enough conscious self-awareness to consciously hold the posture, you can't go into a bad state. 100: MMS Mindset Success At Different Stages Of Your BusinessWelcome to today's show with Genecia Alluora- author of Make It Happen, Speaker, and the founder of Soul Rich Woman. In today's episode, she will talk about mindset issues and different stages of your business. Stay tuned as she will share with you the 5 stages of your business and the mindset issues that you might face.Stage 1(1:45-1:47) Courage to own what did you do (1:52-2:11) So action will be to put your job title or your desired title on your email signature. You will start to see it every day and to start to believe it in yourself. Now, this is coming from a space where you feel like a fraud, you feel like an impostor. So I want to help you.(2:14-2:33) Maybe you are still in a job so it's tough to juggle everything. Stressing about getting your first client or charging people. Making the transition from free to paid can be tricky but just pick a number and try it out. (2:34-2:50) Procrasti branding- that means you add procrastination and branding. That means you keep getting stuck thinking you need a website to get started or get business cards. Just focus on getting your first client.(2:51-3:08) Procrasti funnels- that means you have procrastination about building your funnels and you're thinking what is the funnels that you need to build to get started or to launch your first landing page. You know what? Just focus on getting your first client.(3:09-3:30) You might be still thinking of being your practice business. That's okay, that means you're practicing. It's all good practice and it all counts. Be confident that your previous work experience or your practice, even though it failed in your businesses as all experiences count.(3:32-3:38) The roller coaster of terror of having no income from the start.(3:54-4:06) Say yes to everything. It's all expensive. Throw everything at the wall and see if it sticks. So just try, go out there, never just filter everything.Stage 2 (4:21-4:27) Here are some of the mindset issues that you might face in stage 2.(4:29-4:30) Fear of being visible.(4:36-4:55) You post on social media, you write on the Instagram you'll get haters. Or if you do videos, people will criticize you. Now the fear stops when you're doing more things in your business, well anyway, the reality is it probably won't happen for a while anyway.(4:56-5:02) You might struggle being consistent in your marketing because you are still figuring out your target market.(5:16-5;36)Just tweak as you go along. Quit thinking and start doing. Just keep going and pay attention to what resonates with you and get a mentor to kick your ass as well. Now if you do nothing, to be honest, you will not be able to figure out what your audience really wants.(5:38-5:44) Boundaries might start to be a problem with clients because you're so excited to even have them.(6:02-6:11) Anyway, this is priceless learning for you. When you are going through this journey and learning to set boundaries and when to say no.(6:14-6:27) Procrastination and fear of creating passive income products even though you know that you should. Because you're starting to see the limitations of doing one on one work.(6:47-6:49) Less time, less freedom.(6:53-6:59) You're still learning everything yourself. So you're thinking you could start to delegate some stuff out.(7:07-7:21) You start to invest in yourself more maybe with a coach or masterminds. Start to say maybe to everything. Think about if it fits into your business before you say yes to opportunities.Stage 3(7:37-7:45) CEO is not Chief Executive Officer. In this stage 3, it's called Chief Everything Officer.(7:46-7:56) You want to not become Chief Everything Officer. You want to be the Chief Executive Officer, and that is key.(7:57-8:13) You're also gaining momentum. Time to raise your prices to make sure you have the right clients. Boundaries with clients make you realize you need to tighten up some of your legal processes. Now is the time to make sure you have your contracts sorted out.(8:16-8:23) You'll learn this by trial and error. Maybe through nightmare clients. Then again these are priceless lessons.(8:25-8:27) Start outsourcing things that stress you out.(8:38-8:49) You start to tighten up the costing, the cost center of your business. Maybe you get a little bit too excited about earning money that you get crazy spending on personal development.(8:51-8:53) Now it's time to start paying yourself salary in Stage 3. (8:12-9:19) Start to say NO to things that aren't in your zone of genius or things that don't work for your business anymore.Stage 4(9:24-9:37) Loneliness. At this stage, it might be hard to find the right groups or masterminds for you. You need to be upgrading and make sure that you're surrounding yourself with people with similar energy and vision of mindset with you. (9:39-9:51) Copycats might be a problem at this stage 4. Well, people are noticing what you're doing and then you'll get people flat or accidentally copying you including all or current clients. (9:53-9:57) Either don't take it personally or get legal.(10:16-10:22) Fame and popularity. You might get fangirls who love and adore you.(10:31-10:52) Burnout. Now, some people get super burned out at this stage and wonder how they'll keep going at this pace forever. And that is why I wanna tell you that you must build your freedom lifestyle. F-word, being fabulous, having freedom, financial independence, and a happy family. Work towards that.Stage 5(10:56-11:09) Embracing your role as a leader and being willing to take on the role in your communities. Be willing to hold the space for people. Set rules in your business in how you want to interact with people.(10:31-11:37) You start to get more brutal with your time and evaluate opportunities with more business.(11:50-12:10) You'll learn how to manage your money better with financial advisers or accountant, learning to be a rich person. Some people look to retirement. What's next? Maybe you don't hustle as much. The momentum is hard to switch off here if you have been consistent for many years.Epilogue(12:17-12:25) Earlier on I've just mentioned to you the 5 different stages that really reflect the mindset issues that can pop up for you.(12:49-13:01) We all have a part to play in this. This is your time and you are ready for the next step. The more you take action in a consistent way the faster you built your momentum and really grow your business.Key Takeaways: All experiences count. Quit thinking and start doing. Learn to set boundaries. Learn to say NO. Start outsourcing things that stress you out. Right now, our interactions feel prickly and pointed so maybe it's time to come back to our human roots and embrace humanity's oldest leadership trait: empathy. That's what today's guest, Mimi Nicklin, has devoted her work to advocating. Mimi and I discuss what softening the edges means in practice and how empathetic leaders show up. We also talk about finding empathy across generations in the workplace, about balancing humanism with capitalism, and also how her diverse cultural experience has helped her find commonalities rather than differences across cultures. Key Takeaways:All creativity comes from a tension point - and you have to be able to express that. Empathy leads to a decrease in self-censorship and an increase in creativity and innovation. It's not just about the feelings. It's about the way we think and the way we get things done.To empathize is not to agree, to empathize is to understand. If there has ever been a time to voice change, it is now. Read the related blog article: How Managers Can Advance Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion In The Workplace Key Takeaways: All the ways that individuals differ can be considered an aspect of diversity. Diversity can be visible or invisible, things we’re born with or acquired over time, and inherent in us or by association. Diversity is also about how specific groups of people have been privileged or marginalized historically and across cultures. Intersectionality describes how the complex parts of a person come together in ways that compound privilege or marginalization. Equity is about removing barriers to full participation, correcting for systemic obstacles, and providing everyone a truly fair opportunity. Inclusion is about creating an environment where people feel comfortable to be their authentic self without feeling like they need to code-switch or adjust to fit in. Being an ally is about taking on the struggles of the oppressed as your own. Its an ongoing journey that includes making mistakes and learning from them. When someone speaks up to let you know your actions or behaviors are not inclusive or equitable, respond as an ally would by centering the impacted, listening and learning, apologizing even though you didn’t intend it, and stopping the pattern. Feelings of guilt, defensiveness, anger and conflict avoidance can lead us to respond in unhelpful ways, including centering yourself, denying that other’s experiences are different from your own, derailing, refusing to center the impacted, tone policing, victim blaming, and withdrawing. Be grateful for the learning opportunities and stay engaged, even when being an ally is hard. Pay attention to things like who speaks first during meetings, who gets credit for ideas, who you invest time and energy in developing, and who you turn to for help. In this week's show, Dave and Rob welcome physiotherapist, Mike James - AKA The Endurance Physio - to the show to discuss the enduring topic of what the differences are between a chiropractor, a physiotherapist, and an osteopath, and how to decide upon which might be the best for you? KEY TAKEAWAYS All therapists and practitioners in the MSK realm offer something unique in terms of treatment, and so all should be considered for their own contribution. When looking for a therapist, we must search for the traits of a good one. These traits usually come down to how they communicate with you. A good therapist will always try to establish a good relationship with the client. The patient must remain at the core of every treatment. Good therapists will seek to collaborate with the patient in order to facilitate the path to the destination required. Research is everything. Look for good clinics, but also for good therapists within those clinics. Do not be afraid to raise questions. BEST MOMENTS 'Ultimately they all offer something to patients in the MSK realm' 'People have taken many journeys and paths to get to the same place' 'The patient must be at the centre of the process' 'It doesn't matter about the therapist's background - it's the person and the way they work' VALUABLE RESOURCES Mike James Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/TheendurancePT The Back Pain Podcast The Back Pain Podcast recommended products affiliate link ABOUT THE HOSTS Dave Elliot Dave is the owner of Advanced Chiropractic, a chain of Chiropractic and massage therapy clinics in Essex, UK. Rejection hurts. Nobody likes the feeling of it. But we need to take risks in our lives and businesses for progress to happen. Today’s guest shares some great advice for how to get over rejection and even turn it into an asset. Key Takeaways All your communication to clients should center on getting them what they want. Be clear on what the problem is that you can solve for them and how you are going to do that. Everything else is just details. Your business needs systems in place if you are going to have any freedom. The consistency that these systems provide will give you the time and space you need to free up your time. About Den Lennie Den Lennie is a true veteran of video broadcast and production having worked in this industry for two and a half decades. He is a business coach and marketing strategist who partners with video professionals to grow their video business. Making Connections Without Fear Den explains why it’s easier than many think to make the connections needed to grow their business. In a world where most people rely on texts and emails, an old-fashioned phone call gets overlooked. Actually picking up the phone and making that call sets you apart immediately. Den describes what you can start doing right away to build the confidence needed to make these important calls. This means moving past the fear of rejection. If you want to be a successful entrepreneur, you need to take risks. When you think about it though, reaching out to prospective clients doesn’t actually risk much. They may say no. That’s okay. As Den explains, each rejection gets you that much closer to someone ready to say yes. What Your Clients Really Want From You Remember that your clients don’t care about your gadgets and equipment. All those little details that help you make amazing videos are not what is going to land clients. What they care about is certainty. Be consistent with your systems and how you present your business. Interestingly, Den has found that the more consistent and disciplined you are in your business, the more creative you can be. It’s this structure that allows you to find the time you need to enjoy doing what you want to do. How do you deal with rejection? What systems give you more freedom? Leave a comment on the episode page! In This Episode: Having the guts to make the right connections [4:40] Overcoming the fear of rejection by building confidence [9:10] Why your clients don’t care about what you care about [20:50] How discipline brings freedom [25:00] Building resilience through failure and setbacks [34:00] Quotes “Get to no as quickly as possible. You want to be calling people, connecting with people, and then saying no, because the more nos you get, the closer you are to a yes.” [8:45] “If you want to be an entrepreneur, you have to solve problems. And the more problems you solve, the more money you will make. The more people who you help, the more money you will make.” [10:25] “If you want to run a video business, you have to step back from editing, and then shooting, and then become a producer. But you can still have creative input because your creativity shifts to creating a business and opportunity for your team and providing a future for families.” [28:03] Links: Join Grow Your Video Business on Facebook Sign up for the free Client Budget Workshop Core Storyblocks Find Den Lennie online Follow Den on Linkedin Extreme Ownership by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins Additional Links: Check out the full show notes page Do you have something to share on this podcast? Most of us have a long list of things about our lives (or ourselves) that we would like to change. And while that is a great place to start, when you are working on creating a more fulfilling life, the problem is that when we try to make a bunch of changes at once, we end up changing nothing. That is why knowing what to focus on and when is essential. Key Takeaways: All goals feel and are important, and doing them in a particular order doesn’t mean you don’t value or will forget about the other goals. Focusing on one new behaviour at a time -- instead of trying to change everything at once -- can actually help you accomplish your goals more quickly. Cultivating the ability to prioritize and focus can help us with other aspects of our lives When choosing what to focus on, prioritize behaviours that you perceive to be impactful AND that you feel ready to tackle now. Lab Experiment: Make a list of all the changes that you’d like to make. Consider their potential impact and your readiness to do them. Choose no more than three to focus on and put all the others on hold - for now. Estimate how long you will need to focus on each one (in order to either accomplish it or create a solid habit.) Decide what the very first step for each one will be, including when/where/how you will take it--and then take that first step!
On this episode Ariel and Roger talk about all or nothing (black or white) thinking and how decision fatigue is affecting it. A black or white thinking refers to thinking in extremes. It is not serving us as it limits our options and changes our relationships with other people. Your hosts will show you how you can get over “all or nothing thinking”. Quote of the week is by Robin Conley Downs: “The truth is, it's not about willpower, it's about reducing decisions”. Key Takeaways: All or nothing thinking results in limiting our options. Two steps to reducing “all or nothing thinking”: self-awareness and self-management. Reduce the number of decisions you have to make in a day to prevent decision fatigue. One of the ways to get over “all or nothing thinking” is by executing, trying and experimenting on things you think you're not good at. Be aware of your behavior as well as of the things you say (indicator words) that might indicate you are a black or white thinker. "Believing in yourself, believing in opportunity, believing in the divine, believing in things that are bigger than you are believing in the future, believing in all kinds of things. I'm not saying that every single thing is worth believing in. Why is it that we don't believe in ourselves and our capabilities? Why is it that we live imagining everything that will break that will hurt us that will get in the way or will stop us in the future? Or why are we worried that tomorrow will be a repeat of yesterday? So it's worth talking about? Because belief is at the core of creating your ultimate life. " - Kellan FluckigerListen to more episodes of Your Ultimate Life: your-ultimate-life-by-kellan-fluckiger.simplecast.comWhat you are about to learnYou can't achieve something that you can't believe. Having a set of goals is knowing that you think it will happen in the future, and accepting them is the first step in achieving it. So everything starts with belief. And it's no wonder that every religious philosophy or tenement begins with faith, believing in things that you can't see. It's so hard to believe sometimes because of the things that we have experienced before. It can be hurtful, traumatic, or a bit sad. That is why we don’t believe that something could happen as we want them to be. When things fail, or things break, or characteristics are crushed, or hopes or smashed, those kinds of things teach us. It doesn't have to be that way. But we still don't try. We still don’t believe it. We always don't push the boundaries, and we even don't get it done. Well, the main thing is this fear that we feel now fear is the reason why we don’t believe.FEAR. What is it that we are afraid will happen? When we have a fear of doing something new, better, growth-oriented, powerful. What is it that keeps us from that kind of effort? Everyone shares a fear of inadequacy we do. We all have a fear of being inadequate for being not good enough of being found wanting. Whether we are honest about it or not, it’s true. Fear of being not enough, fear of being inadequate, or found wanting is this deep fear that I think is connected almost to fear of death, fear of ceasing to be useful, and be meaningful. What do you need to do to overcome this? Now, there are several tools to use your techniques to get started on doing something to overcoming this, not believing in ourselves. So pick something you think is hard and ask yourself what you think about it. Think of something that will make you realize that it is possible to do it. That makes us continue to accept those things? Because when we think about it logically, especially when we become a bit older, we know that it's not necessarily true. Our rational mind knows well, and it could be otherwise. To make it work, try it several times. It's just a game. When you get enough unexpected results, your mind starts to say, maybe the thing I've believed all this time isn't necessarily real. And when you get a collection of these unexpected results and look at other possibilities, it becomes easy to change your belief.Key Takeaways“All of that starts with learning to believe in what is possible for you. Because there are no limitations on what you can have. There are no limitations to what you can do. There are no limitations on who you can become except the ones that you choose to acknowledge.”“If we let fear dominate our life, we won't go anywhere. We won't try new things. We won't go do the thing you've been wanting to do for years. You won't try it. You won't apologize if you need to someone because you're afraid it won't be accepted. You won't put yourself out there with a new skill.”Connect with Kellan on your favorite platforms:Facebook: www.facebook.com/kellan.fluckiger3YouTube: www.youtube.com/c/ultimatelifeformulaLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kellanfluckigerTwitter: https://twitter.com/kellanfluckigerYou can find out more about Kellan and how he can help you achieve your ultimate life by checking out his website.Subscribe to the podcast on Apple, Spotify, Google Podcasts, iHeartRADIO, or anywhere else you listen to your podcasts. If you haven't already, please rate and review the podcast on Apple Podcasts

I was asked to provide my thoughts on the future of higher education for Coursedog’s Community 2020: A Virtual Summit for Higher Ed event. Looking 20-30 years into the future, I talk about higher education re-branding itself as Lifelong Education, how the funding model will change, increased access and representations, the ways students will engage in modular learning, the ways technology will change the classroom and the administration of lifelong education, and of course the record keeping requirements for all of these changes. Key Takeaways: All of this is speculation and a fun thought exercise. These predictions are based on current trends, but the future is uncertain and ever changing. That’s why this is fun! I could be totally off base, but we’ll have to wait 30 years to find out.Lifelong Education is a much better branding for our industry for the kind of learners we will serve in the future. The funding model for lifelong education must change in order for the industry to remain viable and relevant. The academic calendar as we know it will be replaced by modular learning, on individually determined timelines.Today’s disruptive technologies (Virtual Reality, Artificial Intelligence) will be pervasive in the future. Technology will enable highly immersive hands on experiences that increase learners’ breadth and depth of the subject matter. In Part 1 of this two-episode series, I talk about my decision to close down my Secret MLM Hacks program after running it for the past few years. There was a lot of thought that went into the decision, but strategically, there are some big reasons why I closed it. I also talk about what's ahead. In the last four-five episodes, I've shared with you guys specific things that have been going on in my business. I’ve talked about the way I've built Secret MLM Hacks and the systems that have built this, which have allowed this to be kind of on the back-end of my actual business. This is not my actual full-time business. It's not my actual full-time focus. The reason why my downline continues to grow, the reason why there are so many things that I'm able to pull off with this is that I treat this like any other business. And so, I actually am shutting down Secret MLM Hacks. There are lots of things going on personally. There are certain opportunities that are coming my way. There's a lot of things that are happening, and for me, it just doesn't make sense to keep it open anymore. Stay tuned as I recap as to why it has been such a big deal. Key Takeaways: All business has three needs... Tired of wearing glasses or straining to see your computer screen? Claudia Muehlenweg is a leading force in empowering people to improve their eyesight naturally. Through webinars, online programs, a membership and private coaching, she helps her clients see better, no matter what vision challenge they struggle with – including presbyopia, myopia, astigmatism, strabismus, convergence insufficiency, missing depth perception, cataracts, macula degeneration, glaucoma and vision problems after RK and LASIK surgeries. Many were able to ditch their glasses and contacts for good or avoid dangerous surgery altogether. Claudia is a sought-after international speaker and workshop leader and a member of three international vision associations. Her certifications in Hatha Yoga, Yoga Tune Up®, the Roll Model® Method and her current training in Nutritional Endocrinology enable her to use an integrated, holistic approach to finding the root cause of blurry vision that goes well beyond the eyeball. Claudia lives what she teaches starting each day with self-care, stimulating her eyesight with plenty outdoor time, and enjoying life in Los Angeles with friends and her two daughters. In today’s conversation, Claudia shares how she got rid of her glasses and how she now teaches others how to improve their vision naturally. She explains the root cause of most eyesight problems, dispels many myths about eyesight, aging and avoiding direct sunlight, and provides several techniques you can use to reduce eye strain and improve your vision over time. Claudia explains why you want to avoid wearing sunglasses and encourage your children to play outside more often. She also addresses the question of LAZIK eye surgery, offers recommendations for computer screen settings and font size, and so much more. Key Takeaways All babies are born far-sighted. It usually takes until age 15 for our vision to be completely developed. There is a direct correlation between our emotions and our eyesight. Most eye care specialists focus on the eyeball whereas 90% of our vision happens in our brain. The retina doesn’t know a table from a chair. That distinction happens in the brain. Most eyesight issues stem from strain. Identify the type of strain you have so you can release the tension and improve your vision. Practice sunning with closed eyelids to reduce light sensitivity in the beginning. In the 1970s, 25% of children in Asia and the US experienced nearsightedness. Today the percentage is up to 45% in the US and approximately 95% in many areas in Asia. Children that played 2 or more hours outside had a much lower chance of being nearsighted than children that stayed inside. Our eyes are not meant to be locked on a certain distance or object for any length of time. Our eyes are meant to move and look around. In this episode, I am going to be discussing something that no script can help you with, and that is when you're doing everything right, but it all seems to go wrong. I remember the first time I actually recognized what was going on - I was actually on a call for selling a high priced item, high priced coaching, and mentoring courses. I thought I was having great conversations with the people I was looking to enroll. They loved the expert. They had a really strong bond with the material they had consumed already.I was just looking for an opportunity to enroll them right away, get them into better products, get them working more closely with the person who is going to be coaching them, and teaching and helping them along the way. What I didn't realize was that although the conversation was going well, I was missing something, because at the end of the day, it was broken. They had more questions. I wasn't able to close them, and it was very frustrating. The problem was that I wanted to overcome the need to handle a lot of objections and be able to help them with their concerns of buying, and help them get out of their own way to acquire what we were trying to sell them. And what I realized was that in those moments, I was making a bigger deal out of some of the questions, and they weren't objections. They were actually buyers’ questions. So, I’m going to tell you how to overcome the client's final concerns. Stay tuned.Key Takeaways:All these personal internal judgments about why they're asking questions (3:16)For the majority of people, they're just curious about the next step (3:31)Sometimes, they want to know a little bit more, or a better explanation (3:50)Often, when you make those rebuttal statements, a reaction is set off (5:55)I don’t use objection statements now - We’ve crafted discussion points (6:33)They want to purchase, but they have to overcome a bump in the road (8:43)There are pre-crafted examples that you can build into your business (12:01)Parallel their question to something outside of what you're selling (12:13)What can you share to make their statement or concern obsolete? Key Takeaways:All the gospels are essentially saying the same thing. Jesus is the Jewish Messiah and his life, death, and resurrection fulfills the Hebrew Scriptures. All four gospels climax with a detailed recounting of Jesus' death and resurrection. While this may seem like an obvious point to modern readers, this is not necessarily true for ancient readers when the Scriptures were formed.Modern readers of the gospels should make an effort to familiarize themselves with how ancient Greco-Roman biography and literature worked. The four gospels are not modern texts; therefore, readers should be sympathetic and strive to view them not through a modern lens, but in light of their historic context.Quotes: “The main mode that many Christians, especially Protestants, read the Bible in is the ‘lessons for my life’ approach to the Bible. The deeply held assumption is, ‘the Bible is a moral handbook and each story is giving me a life application lesson that I can apply to my life.’ And I don’t think that’s what the Gospel authors are trying to do.”"(The gospels are) tying in Jesus’ story as the fulfillment of the Hebrew Scripture storyline which is the story of Israel and all humanity. And then all of them are saying the story leads up to the moment of a Jewish wonder-worker’s execution. It’s a simple point. But that is their main point."In part 1 (0-11:30), Tim and Jon briefly recap the series so far. They discuss the earlier tips for reading the gospels more effectively and deeply. Tim says readers should always remember that the gospels are meant to be stories about Jesus, but they have been specifically selected to be persuasive stories about Jesus. The Gospel authors want the reader to believe that Jesus is the Messiah. Sometimes they make this intent obvious and explicit, but other times, they make the claims indirectly. Tim says this method of indirect communication and indirect claims about Jesus is the primary way that Gospel authors design their portraits of Jesus. In part 2 (11:30-22:00), Tim notes that many of the stories about Jesus, including the stories of miracles, sound unbelievable to many modern Western audiences. Whereas in other cultures, healings and miracles and those who performed them were considered an integral part of life and evidence of God or the gods’ work. Tim shares a helpful resource called The Lost Letters of Pergamum, which is a short historical novel set in ancient Roman culture during the early days of Christianity. The novel helps readers more accurately picture what the original claims of the gospel would have meant to the first followers of Christ.Tim then says most Western Protestants read these accounts through asking, “What’s the application of this gospel story to my life and how will it improve my life?” Tim says he doesn’t think this is the best way to read the gospels. Instead, readers should learn to read the gospels as intricate and complete portraits of Jesus Christ of Nazareth that are claiming that Jesus is the promised Jewish Messiah. In part 3 (22:00-32:00), Tim notes that every Gospel climaxes with Jesus’ death and resurrection. Tim then contrasts this with the Gospel of Thomas, which does not include Jesus’ death and resurrection narrative. To the gnostics who used the Gospel of Thomas, Jesus was a wise, divine teacher who dispensed knowledge to humanity to help them learn to be wise.Tim then says that a good example of the gospels climaxing with Jesus’ death and resurrection would be the Gospel of Mark. Most of the book highlights the final week of Jesus’ life and does a fast fly-by of Jesus’ earlier life leading up to the week of the Passover and crucifixion. Most stories, Tim observes, end with the good guy defeating the bad guy, thereby using force and violence to triumph. The Jesus story claims that Jesus triumphed by allowing himself to be killed by his enemies. He then was raised from the dead and gives his enemies an opportunity to enter into new life by believing in him.In part 5 (32:00-end), Tim and Jon discuss the differences between the gospels. Tim says that some of the variances between the stories in the gospels used to bother him. Why couldn’t all the stories be the same? Aren’t the discrepancies evidence that these stories and authors might be unreliable? However, Tim continues by sharing that over time, his perspective has changed. Now, he realizes that the Gospel authors are advancing a claim about Jesus, not recounting security camera footage of his life. The authors want the reader to understand that Jesus had a totally different way of seeing the world, so they highlight this in their own style. Tim says he would actually be highly suspicious if all the gospels’ stories are exactly identical. That would imply that the Jesus story was not authentic. It also should be taken into consideration that what many modern Christians may perceive to be untruths or discrepancies in the Bible were much more accepted by early Christians. Modern readers should attempt to understand the context and culture of how the gospels were formed instead of importing our own modern view of a biography onto an ancient text.Show Music:“Defender” instrumental by Tents“Nostalgic” by junior state“lacuna” by leavv“Beautiful Eulogy” by Beautiful EulogyShow Resources:The Lost Letters of Pergamum: A Story from the New Testament World by Bruce LongeneckerShow Produced by:Dan GummelPowered and distributed by Simplecast

Is your strategy not working repeatedly? Or maybe a launch hasn't worked again? Where is your mindset, and do you need help with that mindset? Where is your mindset, and do you need help with that mindset? Is it time to make switch something that you're doing and make it better? Check out this episode. IN THIS EPISODE 0:16 We're getting into mindset and how it applies to the strategy of your business. If you've been in business for a while, you've got a plan - that's all strategy is right, a plan. Let's take and apply some real-world examples to this. A personal trainer - why did you get one? You might not have known how to meet your physical fitness goal, or you needed that personal accountability. It's probably come up to you in the area of meal planning. If I want to eat healthily, I need to plan ahead and make a good choice. It's helpful to have that plan in place. When it comes to business - content marketing. What happens if you don't have a marketing plan in place? You sit down at your desk and say hmmm... what's the purpose in how you're doing things here? You don't know how to measure it and you end up getting lost in a Facebook group and wasting an hour. 3:23 We all look for strategy and systems. Our brain is lazy. What do you do in the shower? Think about that for a minute. When you're in the shower, you have a system and your brain likes it. That's why we naturally gravitate towards something that gives us a system. So why don't the systems work? You've taken courses, added strategy, you've got a great personality and courses that people need. What happens then? You've taken courses on how to launch courses and that launch flops. And then you hire a coach and if that doesn't work, then you hire someone else or buy another course. 5:35 I want to challenge you to think outside the box for a minute - is it really the answer book or the course that you're working out of. Have you taken a chance to look on the inside and examine your mindset? Your mindset is the foundation of everything you do. It's not really the prettiest thing, but it's the most important part. When you've built a solid foundation because then you can do anything in your business because you're confident, strong and powerful. You feel equipped to follow the right path that will help you charge what you're worth, put yourself out there and put out the content that will make you the money. If you don't have that, you're missing the most important part of your strategy. 8:10 So many people are like yeah, I get it. I'll say some affirmations, do some meditations and sometimes it works and other times it doesn't. Girlfriend, trust me. Five years ago I was in a bad place. I was struggling with the same things you are, I was struggling to charge my worth and I felt like everyone was watching me. You wouldn't have caught me dead public speaking. I had to give a speech at my best friend's wedding and I must have lost five pounds that week because I was so nervous. I started doing mindset work and holy moly, it led me to blow out my first business and started my second. And I've got friends from all over the world and things are so different. You have to start somewhere. You have to make that choice. That whole time I was studying psychology, the law of attraction, NLP, and all the things that have come together. I've looked at patterns and seen what has worked for me and my Academy students. It's like making a cake. It's a recipe. That's what I'm all about. You can change the tools you're using, but it still turns out the same way. You're inserting things maybe a different way but you're still using those tools to change your mindset. Your life, your business, your financial situation is all a result of the recipe you have made your whole life. If you want to live your dream life, you need to change the recipe. It's probably only to make a few tweaks. If you want to bring someone in who can help you with your mindset, we're swinging the doors of the Profit Party Academy wide open. You can go check it out and if you want, schedule a call with me to see if you're the right fit. If you're curious and want to dig in, and work on your mindset, go check it out. [bctt tweet="Is mindset missing from your strategy? It could be making a huge difference in where your business is." username="tonyarineer"] KEY TAKEAWAYS All strategy is right, a plan. Show Summary: I'm sticking with the website and technology theme for today's show. It's about what website platform or technology should I use for my site? More specifically, I'll discuss the process by which I assess and I hope you will asses and figure out which platforms are right for you. Assuming you have a service-based business and an existing website, the first thing as you go through this is to ask yourself this very first question: Where are you at with your website now? Specifically, here are the questions you need to answer: Where does your brand sit? What is the functionality of your site? Does it talk to your customer? How does that compare to your competition? How much traffic are you getting? Where is that traffic coming from? You need to be acutely aware of what's happening on your website and what your customers see your website as relative to your competition. What's the reason for your change? If you have a website already, is it not serving a purpose? Is it old technology that you can't update? Is it brand new? Do you want a new design? Are you looking to track a new audience? Maybe it's isn't even one that you're aware of and this is pretty common. What are the specific goals of your website? I can't express to you how important this is. You'd be shocked to understand or see the people who just want something because they want something and there needs to be a very specific goal to it. And the reason is that goal dictates and drives the decisions downstream. What do you want people to do on your website? How do you want to serve them? Do you just want to give them information? Functionality or only content in certain types of forums? Does your value proposition get reflected in your website? Do they see the value of your company? Do they see the value of the services you provide to them? From your goals, identify the core functionality of your site. What pieces in how you want your customers to interact with you will affect what type of website platform you use? Two main routes you can take: Existing CMS or Content Management System - ex. WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, SharePoint Custom Application - custom-written How do I decide if I want to use an existing platform versus custom? Let's use WordPress as an example here. Using an existing modular plug-in Do you need something so custom that there already is an existing modular plug-in that you can use and modify to meet your business? A modular plug-in is a piece of code applied to a WordPress site that serves a very specific function (ex. eCommerce, membership, contact us form page, chat) Is there not already something out there that you can use and leverage that meets your needs? Customizing off-the-shelf products Take a modular plug-in and then customize it to fit your need. But this can be risky when they update the core plug-in and it can affect the functionality of what you have. Develop everything custom Start from scratch and go create and write your own. In my opinion, you only go custom if you can afford these things such as the development staff forever. It sounds scary but that's how it is. If you have custom core components of your website, you will need someone to take care of that for you forever. It means you have to have resources available to you that can handle it. You have to make sure you can afford staff forever. Will the functionality of your site give you a defined competitive advantage? This is the linchpin of whether you do something custom whether it's the entire website or a custom module inside of a WordPress site. Figure out if this is something that's really custom for you that you would get immense value out of. Understand that doing custom takes longer time to develop. Basically, there may be issues that could come along such as staff, support, bugs, expertise, training, administration, and other stuff that need to be accounted for. Hence, you need to have people to support it forever. You have to understand this is a commitment. Using WordPress WordPress is a really powerful tool. A significant number of websites in the world are run on WordPress. The advantages of using WordPress: It's user-friendly and has a massive following. Resources are fairly easy to come by. There's lots of pre-made modules and plug-ins. They're always improving from the standpoints of security posture, functionality, and usability. Things to be careful with on WordPress: Security You can easily get out of control with the functionality which could make you slow down, makes it harder to manage, and be more vulnerable to security risks. Note: Always remember to backup your website. Back up everything. Things to consider when deciding what plug-ins to use: Security Backup Spam prevention Core functionality Page designer *Remember you really have to go back to assessing your goals and needs for functionality. Is what you need so critical and important or is there a plugin that can already handle it? If there is not, then you may have to use a custom modular plug-in. Again, I caution customizing things because they will break once they're updated. Key Takeaways: All this said, my core belief is that unless there's something very core to your business that distinguishes you over your competition significantly or is actually part of your service, use pre-made modules and execute on them. This may require small process changes in your organization but they're much less expensive than the cost of customizing code and managing it. Make sure what you put in is absolutely needed. You have to make sure it fits your need and your business and you're willing to accept the risk of doing so. A WordPress framework with a number of modules can accomplish basically anything. Customizing 10% of your website is way better than customizing the entire thing or building it from scratch. Make sure you follow some form of process to really assess what you need. Define your goal. Define what the functionality needs to be and that will help you decide all of these other decisions beneath and make sure they're in alignment with your overall goal.
