Dr. Thomas Lodi delivers a paradigm-shifting examination of health that challenges everything we've been taught about disease. Instead of viewing illnesses as external entities attacking our bodies, he reveals how what we call "diseases" are actually our bodies' adaptations to improper biological conditions. This perspective transforms health from fighting against symptoms to creating the optimal environment for natural healing. At the heart of Dr. Lodi's message is a powerful truth: your body was designed to function optimally. When all biological requirements are met, health emerges naturally. It's only when these requirements aren't satisfied that adaptations occur – adaptations we've labeled as diseases. This applies to everything from chronic conditions to cancer, which Dr. Lodi explains as cells that have switched to permanent fermentation due to damaged mitochondria. The conversation delves into practical applications of this philosophy, addressing gut dysbiosis underlying conditions like autism and IBS, proper removal of mercury fillings, and effective treatments for parasites. Dr. Lodi emphasizes that restoration of balance through proper nutrition, elimination of toxins, and psychological wellbeing creates an internal environment where chronic conditions cannot thrive. Most compelling is Dr. Lodi's reminder of the miracle already working within us – our bodies conducting 37 sextillion chemical reactions every second. We're not static beings but dynamic processes constantly renewing themselves. When we support rather than suppress this incredible system, true healing becomes possible.Ready to transform your understanding of health? Join Dr. Lodi's health communities to continue this conversation and learn practical steps toward restoring your body's natural balance. Our guest today, Will Bulsiewicz, also known as Dr. B, is a gastroenterologist who is also the author of the books Fiber Fueled and The Fiber Fueled Cookbook. He lost more than 45 pounds when he switched to a plant-based diet and now has his own patients take control of their health and reverse their own digestive problems by following his fiber-fueled prescriptions. We first talked to Dr. B in 2020 when he was about to release his first book Fiber Fueled: The Plant-Based Gut Health Program for Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health, and Optimizing Your Microbiome. During our first episode together, he was nervous about how well it would do in a pandemic. Not to our surprise, it very quickly became a New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly bestseller. Today we talked to Dr. B about The Exam Room podcast, how to poop properly, and what to expect from the Fiber Fueled Cookbook that is soon to be released. He also answers important health, gut, and fiber questions taken from our Switch4Good Podcast Facebook group. He believes that all health starts in the gut, and we are honored to have him back on the show to explore exactly what that means. “Stop counting grams of fiber, start counting plants. If you start increasing the varieties of plants in your diet, you will naturally consume far more than the recommended amount of fiber. And that is a beautiful and exciting thing.” – Dr. Will Bulsiewicz What we discuss in this episode: - Why Dr. B recently left his medical practice - The Exam Room podcast - What to expect from the Fiber-Fueled Cookbook - How the health care system is flawed and why it is a complicated issue What “leaky gut” is What constipation really is and why it's important What GROWTH means to Dr.B How to poop properly How to stop counting grams of fiber and start counting plants instead Questions from the Switch4Good podcast Facebook group Resources: Visit his website - theplantfedgut.com Connect with Dr. B on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/theguthealthmd/ Preorder the Fiber Fueled Cookbook - https://theplantfedgut.com/cookbook/ Use code SWITCH for 25% off your order at MaxinesHeavenly.com Purality B12 Deal: https://puralityhealth.com/liposomal-b12/ to buy one B12 and get one free plus 35% off the rest of Purality's products Send us a voice message. Email me to be apart at contact@cassiehutton.com Visit the new website In this episode I'm sharing my personal journey of hormone imbalances that are actually due to mineral deficiencies. With every pregnancy we have, we give out 10% of our minerals. That's equivalent to 4 pounds of minerals! If we're not replenishing our bodies with proper nutrients then we will find ourselves in the same spiralling downfall of hormonal imbalances that the previous generation has found themselves in and the ones after us will come into it even sooner. Our food and daily essentials continue to get more and more harmful to our bodies because of the additives and chemicals. Balancing your hormones isn't about cutting out certain foods or treating the hormone imbalance with synthetic hormones, but about restoring the very cells that communicate with our bodies to release certain hormones. So many women find themselves in the same vicious cycle and it almost always begins with blood sugar issues that turn into thyroid issues, hormone issue, autoimmune disease, rheumatoid arthritis, adrenal fatigue, etc. It's time to take back your health, stop treating your symptoms and target the root issue of why it all started in the first place. If we are made from the dust like Genesis 2:7 says we are, then it only makes sense to replenish the very minerals that we are made from first. I hope you can find the right person to work with in your health journey! Here are a few accounts you can follow and look into to get you started. These are not affiliate links. It all begins with the microbiome. The gut comprises 70% of our immune system. This ecosystem of bacteria, viruses, and fungi influences all aspects of health from our hormone levels, to immunity to our weight and mood as well as brain health. So much so that today's guest, Dr. Will Bulsiewicz (pronounced bul su wits), says "Your brain's best friend is your gut. You can't separate the two. If you have an unhealthy gut, it's going to affect your brain." 'Dr. B' as he is affectionately known, is a board certified and award winning gastroenterologist and a leading voice in gut health. He is a graduate of Georgetown School of Medicine, a former chief medical resident at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and chief gastroenterology fellow at the University of North Carolina Hospitals. Will received his Master of Science in Clinical Investigation from Northwestern University and a certificate in nutrition from Cornell University. He has published over twenty articles in renown gastroenterology journals and his New York Times bestselling book, Fiber Fueled: The Plant Based Gut health Program For Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health and Optimizing Your Microbiome, is mandatory reading on why gut health is so fundamental and how to enhance it to avoid disease and optimize your wellbeing. In his new book, The Fiber Fueled Cookbook, Dr. B shares incredibly delicious recipes and practical, easy to implement gut health promoting tips, tools and strategies. Episode Outline/TakeawaysA whole food plant based diet is when you eat plants in the form that is as close as possible to when they came out of the earth. (IE oreos vs kale)Telling someone you are vegan only lets them know what you don't eat whereas telling them you eat whole food plant based lets them know what you do eat.Whole food plant based is not only about not eating dairy, fish, meats, etc… but also eating minimally processed foods (less salt, oil, and sugar). While it may seem like the healthiest diet changes year to year based on what the popular press publishes, the reality based on medical studies has shown for a long time that the mediterranean diet and the whole food plant based diet are some of the most beneficial for health. The DASH diet is the dietary approach to stop hypertension and promote overall heart health. DASH is a kind of whole food plant based lite. It is a kind of stepping stone between peoples' starting diet and a whole food plant based diet that can make eating healthier easier to take on.Takeaways:Whole food plant based is about limiting the processed foods you eat which leads to added health benefits.Find the documentary ‘What The Health' here at https://www.netflix.com/title/80174177Find the book ‘Fiber Fueled: The Plant-Based Gut Health Program for Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health, and Optimizing Your Microbiome' by Will Bulsiewicz here at https://www.amazon.com/Fiber-Fueled-Plant-Based-Optimizing-Microbiome/dp/059308456XFor more information on the DASH diet https://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/education/dash-eating-planIntro/Outro Music Credit: Corner Store Breakfast by ReasonforworryEdited by Stephen Barnett

Our guest today, Will Bulsiewicz, also known as Dr. B, is a gastroenterologist who is also the author of the books Fiber Fueled and The Fiber Fueled Cookbook. He lost more than 45 pounds when he switched to a plant-based diet and now has his own patients take control of their health, and reverse their own digestive problems, by following his fiber-fueled prescriptions. We first talked to Dr. B in 2020 when he was about to release his first book Fiber Fueled: The Plant-Based Gut Health Program for Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health, and Optimizing Your Microbiome. During our first episode together he was nervous about how well it would do in a pandemic. What we discuss in this episode: - Why Dr. B recently left his medical practice - The Exam Room podcast - What to expect from the Fiber Fueled Cookbook - How the health care system is flawed and why it is a complicated issue - What “leaky gut” is - What constipation really is and why it's important - What GROWTH means to Dr.B - How to poop properly - How to stop counting grams of fiber, and start counting plants instead - Questions from the Switch4Good podcast Facebook group - Visit his website - theplantfedgut.com Connect with Dr. B on Instagram – https://www.instagram.com/theguthealthmd/ - Preorder the Fiber Fueled Cookbook - https://theplantfedgut.com/cookbook/ - Use code SWITCH for 25% off your order at MaxinesHeavenly.com - Purality B12 Deal: https://puralityhealth.com/liposomal-b12/ to buy one B12 and get one free plus 35% off the rest of Purality's products Connect with Switch4Good - YouTube - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCQ2toqAmlQpwR1HDF_KKfGg - Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/Switch4Good/ - Podcast Chat Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/podcastchat/ - Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/switch4good/ - Twitter - https://mobile.twitter.com/Switch4GoodNFT - Website - https://switch4good.org/

In this episode of The Healers Café, Manon Bolliger (Deregistered naturopathic physician with 30 years of experience in health), talks with Steve Q Wiltshire, Coach and Gut Restoration Expert For the transcript and full story go to: https://www.drmanonbolliger.com/Steve-Q-Wiltshire Highlights from today's episode include: Steve Wiltshire I thought everything that I was doing, eating was ideal. You know, my body fat was low. I was very active, not just in fitness, but in what I thought I was eating was great. And mindset to my mindset coach, and I had no signs leading up to my illness. I remember being at a vegan restaurant with my son. And that was the day my gut just quit, and I ate food. And I was so bloated, my stomach got so large. And then I call it my doctor scheduled an urgent appointment. And I got these tests back, test results back and all my blood panels looked ideal. And I kept thinking, this is wrong. There's something happened to me. There's something that I'm manifesting. Steve Wiltshire So, I had so much inflammation that they thought it would lead to like low on the auto immune would be like fibromyalgia, lupus would be a little higher MS would be very high. And so, when your guts compromised, which is the engine of the body, it is the part of our body, like think about our Creator, it's right in the center of the body. And when that microbiome and that that lining of the gut starts to go like delta virus is a very good example of when they these doctors started opening people's bodies to see their intestines. They were all wrapped up. Well, it just like triggered all these things. It's it gets to be pretty complicated. Steve Wiltshire 15:23 Sugar, stimulants, you know, I had all this fake energy that was so subtle, because you know, I kind of lived a flight and fight life, you know. And I love where you're going with this. And then these radical meal plans like Ketos, beans, a lot of things, but these radical meal plans that can't sustain us, as we age, they're so challenging on our pancreas, on our liver, our gallbladder, you would not believe what they do, they can just put your body in this altered state of illusion. 1 in 5 people suffer from food intolerances, a figure that's growing each year. As a result, people are eating increasingly restricted diets, removing dairy, gluten and many other foods from their plates. Unfortunately, they end up eating highly processed foods that damage their gut microbiome and lead to long-term health problems. Even with food restrictions, many people see limited improvements in their symptoms. The whole topic of intolerance is full of pseudoscience, dubious blood tests, and miracle cures. However, in the last few years, we have seen a revolution in our understanding, with gut bacteria now the stars of the show. This new understanding has profound implications for how we should treat our food intolerances. Today we'll focus on what the latest science says. Jonathan is joined by to https://theplantfedgut.com/about/ (Will Bulsiewicz), board-certified gastroenterologist, New York Times best-selling author and ZOE's science board member, whose latest book is all about food intolerance. Telltale signals of too much stress and trauma include depression, anxiety, gut health challenges, appetite change, and poor sleep. This episode takes a deep dive into what's happening in your body when you endure months, years, or even decades of trauma when your child is at risk and suffering serious health challenges. My guest, Ericka Thomas introduces us to trauma release exercise, or TRE, which is a practice you can add to your day-to-day routine to release the negative impacts of trauma. This is a fascinating topic that's so relevant to parents and can also be helpful to people who are working at getting healthy and creating a substance-free life.
We hear a lot in popular media about ill-fated relationships between empaths and narcissists. Empaths being, loving and compassionate souls with sometimes questionable boundaries. And narcissists being the self-absorbed, villains that take advantage of the empath’s kindness. In this episode, I am going to clarify some common misconceptions about the empath/narcissist dynamic and how we all learn to navigate our relationships with more love, insight, and awareness. Empaths are loving, kind, compassionate souls who feel the feels of others like it's happening to them. Empaths sometimes have difficulty with personal boundaries because they can so easily take on other people’s perspectives, thoughts, and emotions. (1:00)Narcissists are highly manipulative, self-absorbed individuals, who are only concerned with getting their own needs met in relationships and think of others as means to that end. Narcissism runs the spectrum from being slightly more concerned with yourself than others, to a full-blown personality disorder. But most people occasionally exhibit some narcissistic tendencies (3:00)Empaths can be drawn into relationships with narcissists for many reasons. One reason could be that they grew up in a household with a narcissistic parent or sibling and did not learn to set boundaries. Another reason can be that they have very big hearts, see the good in everyone. (5:00)We all have the ability to release ourselves from these patterns. If you find yourself in an abusive relationship, be kind to yourself and relationships and challenges serve a purpose in terms of our personal and spiritual growth. (7:00)To complicate matters, some folks with narcissistic tendencies may still have the ability to sense other people’s thoughts and feelings, and will use that information to upset and hurt you. (8:00)Remember, we all have narcissistic tendencies, including empaths because we are human and we all have an ego. We can all have moments when we get stuck in our own perspective and can’t see past our own needs. This does not mean you or everyone is a narcissist. That term is thrown around often, out of context, and misused. Will Bulsiewicz, or ‘Dr. B' as he is affectionately known, is a graduate of Georgetown School of Medicine and a former chief medical resident at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and chief gastroenterology fellow at the University of North Carolina Hospitals. When Will found the power of a plant-based diet, it quite simply changed his life. He took this knowledge into his medical practice as a gastroenterologist. Will then started a crusade to convince his patients and followers that a plant-based diet full of fermented foods could radically change the gut microbiome. Along the way, he has witnessed some very positive transformations in people following his program. And he offers this advice following his own experience. He has himself lost over 45 pounds and claims to feel better than he has in years. Will has authored more than twenty articles in the top American gastroenterology journals including the New York Times bestselling book, “Fiber Fueled: The Plant Based Gut Health Program For Losing Weight”, “Restoring Your Health”, and “Optimizing Your Microbiome”. Throughout his career, Will has balanced his love of working alongside his patients with his interest in cutting-edge scientific breakthroughs that are changing the way we see the gut, and how to treat symptoms. More recently, Will created The Plant Fed Gut online course for those seeking a complete knowledge of gut health. “A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform.” ~ Diane Mariechild Guest Introduction: This is Exploring the Seasons of Life podcast episode 56. I’m Cindy MacMillan and today’s guest is Sheradyn Dekker. Welcome to Exploring the Seasons of Life, a podcast for women with a big heart on a spiritual journey. Each week, join Cindy MacMillan as she interviews coaches, spiritual explorers and celebrants from all walks of life about beginnings, endings and the messy bits in-between. Self-love, well-being, and mindset are at the heart of our conversations because once you change the inside, the outside will begin to change as well. Gut & Hormone Nutritionist, Sheradyn Dekker has a Sport Science Degree, Masters in Nutrition and Postgraduate studies in Functional Diagnostic Nutrition. Having spent years battling chronic IBS, bloating, missing periods, adult acne & food intolerances, she now educates women 1:1 and in her group program (The Gut Hormone Solution) on how to address the underlying cause of these symptoms. Here’s a glimpse of our conversation: Sheradyn, Thank you for being a guest today. There have been so many articles and studies lately about our gut that I really wanted to interview you as a Gut & Hormone Nutritionist. In the Wall Street Journal just a couple of weeks ago they said “The microbiome, or the collection of microbes that live on and inside the human body, plays a crucial role in physical and mental health. Not only does it protect against pathogens, it also trains the immune system, instructs the metabolism and helps program the brain, among other things.” So I really want us to touch on that today. 2:52 So a bit of my background was when I was chronically sick for six years, which is why I now do what I do. And that real hard season of my life, I was really stressed. I had a lot of constipation and a lot of bloating issues, a lot of stomach pain, I struggled with a lot of stress and anxiety. I had a lot of hormonal imbalances. I didn't have periods for six years. 6:44 And the only solution was the birth control pill. And I just thought, that's not good enough. Like that's, that's not a solution for a 20-year-old who's got missing periods and got severe gut pain, like there's got to be something more. So then when I did Functional Diagnostic nutrition, we actually started looking at stool testing, what was going on with the gut, what was going on with the hormones that comprehensive urine testing. And from that point, I finally for the first time, I started to get some answers. 15:48 Yes, so one of the biggest things I always tell my clients for stress reduction around food, because this is a big one, is that if we're not taking the time to eat, and chew and absorb our food properly, you're causing this internal stress within your gut, because your gut needs to know that, hey, right now, we're sitting, okay, we're sitting, we're eating, we're digesting, you can't eat on the go and expect your body to be able to digest as well. We’re increasingly coming to understand that the way to bolster your immune system begins with the microbiome. Surprisingly, the microbiome in your gut is home to 70% of our immune system. The human gut is complex and has a huge impact on whole-body health. A healthy gut supports a strong immune system, brain health, and heart health. A balanced microbiome can create easier weight loss and weight management and have a positive impact your moods and quality of sleep. To help better understand the importance of gut health, I’ve invited Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, lovingly known as “Dr B” on the show. He’s a respected gastroenterologist who has devoted his practice to understanding the microbiome. Dr. B’s New York Times Best-selling book, Fiber Fueled: The Plant Based Gut Health Program For Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health, and Optimizing Your Microbiome is a must-read. It’s a step-by-step approach that shows a simple, science-backed process for optimizing your gut microbiome. And as you do, you will transform your health. Today, we’re going to discuss how to identify weaknesses in the gut, what habits lead to a poor microbiome, the role of pre & probiotics, and some really valuable information you can learn from your bowel movements. Yes, that’s right… poop! We spend a lot of time talking about what goes in our body, but today we’re also going to talk about what comes out. Get ready for some honest and straightforward discussion. It could just be the most powerful conversation that will empower you to change your health for the better. For more, visit www.kathysmith.com/podcast.
Hello Girlfriends! Welcome back to the Self-Care zone… In this show, I share some inside insights to what it REALLY takes to build self-care in your life. It can begin for some of us by shifting your beliefs. I read a popular essay that is also a chapter in my book, The Extremely Busy Woman’s Guide to Self-Care. My guest is the amazing intuitive, empath and psychic medium Denise Correll, co-host of the Enlightened Empaths podcast with Samantha Fey. Denise REALLY has the goods on how we can navigate tough times, even when we are sensitive, empathic and able to feel and soak up the energy of those around us. And hey—you don’t need to be a psychic or intuitive to fall into this category. I’m one, and I feel your pain just about now. Here’s what I learned in chatting with Denise: What an empath is versus a ‘Highly Sensitive Person’ How to take care of yourself as an empath in stressful times What’s present energetically in the world right now… and why everything feels so darn weird! Why anyone can be an empath How to raise your vibration Why empaths often attract bullies and narcissists and get abused Red flags to notice when you’re giving your power away The connection between your energy and your empathy Plus much, much more… Whew! WHAT AN INTERVIEW! Hope you guys love this as much as I did. It’s easy to think that we’re pretty healthy when we take supplements. This is true to some extent, but taking supplements is only one part of living a healthy life, and at times, can be overprescribed. In this episode, I highlight supplementation and share my journey of how I started taking them back in 2013 when I began my self-healing journey to improve my overall health. I share how supplements helped me achieve optimal health over the years together, along with eating a well-nourished diet, practicing healthy lifestyle habits, and taking an integrative approach with prescriptions from medical and wellness experts. “Your brain's best friend is your gut. You can't separate the two. If you have an unhealthy gut, it's going to affect your brain.”Will Bulsiewicz, MDWe are living in a moment of compounding collective stress---personal, pandemic, economic, civic, and political. This trauma and tumult comes with side effects both physical and psychological. How do we take care of our bodies during this incredibly stressful moment? Furthermore, how do we buttress our immune system to combat the virus? The answer, we are increasingly coming to understand, begins with the microbiome. In fact, you might be surprised to learn, the gut is home to 70% of our immune system. To glean a better understanding of what that means, I convened with Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, a lauded gastroenterologist & gut health guru whose life’s work is devoted to better comprehending the microbiome and the crucial role it plays in all facets of health, from brain function and hormone balance to weight management and everything in between.Affectionately known as 'Dr. B', Will is a graduate of Georgetown School of Medicine and a former chief medical resident at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and chief gastroenterology fellow at the University of North Carolina Hospitals. In addition, he received his Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) from Northwestern University and a certificate in nutrition from Cornell University. He's authored more than twenty articles in the top American gastroenterology journals and his New York Times bestselling book, Fiber Fueled: The Plant Based Gut Health Program For Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health, and Optimizing Your Microbiome, is a must-read primer on why gut health is so crucial--and everything you need to know to optimize it.Since the beginning of the pandemic, I’ve lamented the mainstream media's lack of attention to caring for our immune system. So today we dive in.This is a conversation about all things microbiome and gut health. The mechanisms behind it and latest research findings. We discuss our epidemic of dysbiosis (lack of gut biome balance) and its relation to a litany of chronic diseases that unnecessarily plague too many. We explore the gut-brain connection. The paramount need to increase the biodiversity in our bodies and our environments. And (sorry carnivores) why fiber is king.In addition, in this time of excessive sterilization and sequestration, Dr. B provides practical takeaways on how we can improve our gut flora and optimize our immune system, without putting ourselves and others at risk. And finally, we talk fecal transplants. Because, let's face it, I can’t have a gastroenterologist on the show and not ask about that.It was an honor to to converse with Dr. B--a fresh, new mind making big waves on the plant-based, microbiome scene. Passionate, empathetic and whip-smart, I enjoyed every minute. And I promise you will walk away from this episode armed to take your health to the next level.Note: I first came across Dr. B's work by way of his many appearances on my friend Simon Hill's wonderful Plant Proof Podcast (which you should all check out). The pandemic prevented an in-person exchange, so this conversation was recorded remotely a few months ago. Apologies in advance for any audio issues. We did the best we could.Final Note: Will just released The Plant-Fed Gut, a comprehensive 7-week online course about microbiome health and reversing dysbiosis that goes beyond what he was able to offer in his book. Today’s episode of the Chris Beat Cancer podcast features Will Bulsiewicz, MD, MSCI, (a.k.a. Dr. B), a board-certified gastroenterologist, gut health expert, and the author of Fiber Fueled: The Plant-Based Gut Health Program for Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health, and Optimizing Your Microbiome. Fiber is essential for a healthy gut, diverse microbiome and a strong immune system. It is, in my opinion, the most underrated nutrient. And as a result, 97% of Americans are fiber deficient! Fun fact: You can’t get fiber from animal food. It is only found in plants. In our interview Dr. Will Bulsiewicz and I talk about Fiber Fueled, how to heal and prevent disease with a fiber-rich plant-based diet, why doctors aren’t educated in evidence-based nutrition, the brutality of med school training, a new study showing how your microbiome affects your COVID-19 risk, and so much more. This was such a fun conversation that Dr. B and I went extra long. Enjoy!

I am obsessed with fiber and leafy greens, so I’m in good company with Dr. Will Bulsiewicz. He is a Vanderbilt undergrad. He went to Georgetown for medical school and completed his residency at Northwestern. He then followed that up with a fellowship at Chapel Hill. Now he’s a practicing gastro, he’s obsessed with plants and fiber, and he just published an awesome book, “Fiber Fuel: The Plant-Based Gut Health Program for Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health, and Optimizing Your Microbiome.” (https://www.indiebound.org/book/9780593084564) I finished reading in just one night! Welcome to the podcast that's dedicated to making you healthier by interviewing medical doctors and scholars of lifestyle medicine. This is episode 94** of the Ian Cramer Podcast In this episode, I am joined, again, by Gastroenterologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz, MD. He and I spoke way back in 2018 in Episode 36, and this time around he comes on again to speak about new studies and findings and his new book coming out “Fiber Fueled: The Plant-Based Gut Health Program for Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health, and Optimizing Your Microbiome" In our discussion, we talk about how Will's diet evolved over the years from Hoffman hot dogs and cool-aid as a kid to Brussel sprouts and brown rice as an adult. We talk about Mood disorders, anxiety, depression and brain health and how the gut plays a role in mental health. We talk about myths and truths about fibers. Then we end with talking about we can look at evolution and how studying our ancestors can answer question about gut health and how we should be structuring out diets today. Dr. B is a thoughtful, humble and genuine person and I'm very happy to bring him to you. Please support him and his book, go pick up a copy. If you appreciate evidence and scientific reasoning, I can't emphasize it enough. I hope you find this conversation helpful on episode 94 with Dr. Will Bulsiewicz. We all know fiber is good for us, but did you also know that it can help with your mental health? In this week’s blog and podcast, I speak with GI specialist and epidemiologist Dr. Will Bulsiewicz about how a high-fiber diet can help boost mental and brain health, heal food sensitivities and reduce inflammation in the brain and body! In his amazing new book, Fiber Fueled: The Plant-Based Gut Health Program for Losing Weight, Restoring Your Health, and Optimizing Your Microbiome, Dr. B notes how even though he was very successful as a medical doctor, his processed food diet was making him miserable, tired and anxious. When he met his wife, he began to understand how real, healthy whole foods could transform his life, which led him on the path he is on today: meeting people where they are in their journey and helping them live their best and healthiest lives. As Dr. B points out, although the current healthcare system is really good at treating acute illnesses, it falls short when it comes to preventative medicine and chronic health issues. Indeed, as a medical doctor with multiple qualifications, he was taught little about the impact lifestyle choices such as diet and exercise could impact our mental and physical health! Thankfully, times are changing, especially as more and more research is being published on the importance of our lifestyle choices. We now know that pills and procedures are not everything; around 20% of diseases are genetic, which means 80% are related to our diet and lifestyle. This is great news! It means that our health is largely in our hands, which very empowering. Podcast Time Stamps: 6:25 What transformed Dr. B’s life, and why he loves helping people regain their health and live their best life 18:02 What is the difference between disease prevention and disease management? 24:29 The gut-brain connection, and why your gut should be your brain’s best friend 30:22 The gut is an endocrine organ, as much as the ovaries and testes are 30:50 The gut produces post-biotics, which happens when you combine prebiotics and probiotics 37:00 What is the one golden rule when it comes to eating? 43:50 Is meat okay to eat? 48:22 Food sensitivities and what you can do about them 55:00 How fiber-rich diets can prevent heart disease 57:20 Why diet is not everything 1:00:00 Current health trends to be excited about and health trends to avoid 1:02:02 What if you live in a food desert? Calling all fellow bookworms, library nerds, and general lovers of literature — it’s time for another book club episode of the podcast! Whenever there are five Fridays in a month, we devote the extra Friday to a book that we can’t get enough of. This time we decided to have a conversation about a rampant problem that a LOT of people in our audience are likely suffering through—being preyed upon by energy vampires. 1 in 5 people is on the vampire spectrum (YES, you read that right), which means you’ve known many throughout your life, and have likely been preyed upon by more than one. If you’re an empath, highly sensitive person, people pleaser, peacemaker, or anyone who has difficulty enforcing boundaries with other people, this conversation about Dodging Energy Vampires: An Empath’s Guide to Evading Relationships that Drain You and Restoring Your Health and Power by Christiane Northrup, M.D. is going to hit home for you! We talked about: The type of people who are tasty prey to an energy vampire, and how to tell if you’re an easy mark. How to spot an energy vampire from a mile away. How to set hard boundaries, escape the drama, say no, and steer clear of the people who are draining your energy and making you miserable (even if they’re a member of your family). How to heal the wounds and blind spots that made you susceptible to energy vampires, so that the pattern can’t repeat itself. Come leave us a comment after you’ve listened and let us know if you’ve been an inadvertent snack to an energy vampire, and how you’re going to start shutting that down ASAP! Why You Should Listen: In this episode, you will learn about restoring your health from Lyme disease with herbal therapies with Dr. Bill Rawls, MD. As an MD himself, Dr. Rawls has a unique perspective on treating chronic illness and shares how he recovered his own health from the clutches of Lyme disease. Enjoy! About My Guest: My guest for this episode is Dr. Bill Rawls, MD. Dr. Rawls was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia in his mid-forties and developed insomnia, fatigue, joint pain, muscle pain, and eventually chest pain and heartbeat irregularities. This approach worked and he began to get his health back...until he was bitten by a tick and developed Lyme disease. He then learned about herbal protocols for combating Lyme disease and began to feel human again after a few months of using high-dose herbs. He has continued his exploration and is doing very well today. Dr. Rawls will be sharing his journey in detail in his new book Unlocking Lyme. Key Takeaways: - How did Lyme disease first impact Dr. Rawls? - How do we get exposed to Lyme? - Why is Lyme such a big problem today? - What are system disruptors and how do we mitigate them? - How did Stephen Buhner's work influence Dr. Rawls? - Is Borrelia here to make us deathly ill? - Can we get rid of every last microbe?
