In this episode, we take it way back! Join me and my friends Tito, Marc X, Arkatak, Pooh Heff, and Groove as we answer the question: "What were some Hip-Hop related things to do in El Paso back in the '80s and '90s?" We swap stories about the legendary Breaking Boundaries battles, crossing over to Juarez to party at Old West, and copping Kung-Fu flicks (and more) from Brotha Lee's. We also reminisce about partying at the All Graders Club on Fort Bliss, dancing at Teen Expo, and the classic hangouts at Castle Park. Plus, no trip down memory lane would be complete without shouting out One World Style — where digging for vinyl was a rite of passage. Whether you lived it or just want to know what it was like, this episode is full of the real memories that made the El Paso Hip-Hop scene special. Tap in!

VYS0029 | If There's Something Strange In Your Neighbourhood - Vayse to Face to Face with Field Lines Cartographer and Bob Freeman: Halloween 2023 - Show Notes Four middle-aged men bravely join forces to confront ancient evils, spooks, spectres and ghosts - ok, so, Vayse did Ghostbusters last Halloween but instead, this year, Hine and Buckley welcome back master of the liminal soundscape, Field Lines Cartographer and the Occult Detective himself, Bob Freeman to sit around the virtual camp fire as they each tell a ghost story from their home towns. FLC tells a tale of Warwickshire plague pits and feelings of stalking dread in the dark, Hine recounts a gruesome murder in Preston which led to bloody revenge from beyond the grave, Bob spins a classic American yarn of haunted houses in the deep, dark woods of rural Indiana and Buckley tells of the spirit of a young boy who haunts the picturesque town of Great Corby bringing those who encounter him great fortune followed by certain death. The conversation also turns to whether ghosts are actually, really all that scary, the differences between ghost stories in the UK and the US, the nature of reality itself (of course, this is Vayse)... and digitally transported flies... (Recorded 10 October 2023) Thanks again to Keith for the show notes and thanks to everyone for listening - please tell a friend (or benignly neutral acquaintance) and ask them to do the same! After the crash, a new type of venue emerged as the dominant force in coin operated video games, the family entertainment center. No longer just video games, but a mix of mini golf, redemption games, food counters and more, this new destination would prove an ever evolving type of business very much at the whims of a fickle public. Our guest, Ed Pearson, navigated these tempestuos waters for almost 15 years as manager of the legendary Seattle Funplex before moving on to ever bigger facilities as the family entertainment business continued to evolve past its arcade roots. In the early morning hours of the 29th of March 2014, a person walking through Castle Park, in Colchester, noticed a man lying unusually still in the grass to the side of the path. They could hear a kind of gurgling noise, and as they approached, they were horrified to discover, the man was completely covered in blood, from the top of his head, to the bottom of his legs...This innocent and vulnerable member of the community was the first victim of what would become Britain's youngest serial killer.Join my Facebook group for some great giveaways, discuss case theories and take part in polls for future episodes. Happy New Year! Dumbo the flying Elephant is for all intents and purposes, an opening day attraction at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. The attraction is an icon and right of passage for generations of children. It allows for children to "fly" up and down with this beloved IP. There is a Dumbo attraction in every Castle Park around the world. Will the fact that Magic Kingdom have literally double capacity make it better? Will the real live instrument and kinetic energy of fantasyland at Disneyland reign supreme? Click play and find out. Enjoy! image courtesy of www.disnerland.com Learn more about your ad choices. Story 1 - Castle Parks are Expanding Whenever we hear about new parks being established, it's great news - and this January, we got a double whammy as the Alberta Government finalized the boundaries of Castle Wildland and announced the creation of Castle Provincial Park on January 20, 2017. These two parks protect more than 1000 square kilometres or almost 400 square miles of the southern Alberta Rockies known as the crown of the continent. They provide a critical habitat that encompasses the spine of the Rockies which is one of the most diverse ecological areas in the entire Rocky Mountain chain. Bordered on the south by communities like Missoula and Great Falls Montana, it follows the Rocky Mountain Ridge northward to Alberta's Kananaskis Country. These newly established parks will help to provide more consistent protection along the Rocky Mountain Ridge and runs all the way from Waterton Lakes National Park to the Crowsnest Highway, or Highway 3, in southern Alberta. The Wildland Park will focus more on low-impact access and will contain the most critically sensitive landscapes in terms of headwater protection, wildlife movement corridors and critical plant and animal habitat. The provincial park will have more frontcountry development and includes former Provincial Recreation Areas like Lynx Creek, Castle Falls, Castle River Bridge, Syncline, and Beaver Mines provincial Recreation Areas. Story 2 - Whirling Disease Updates Just this week, aquatic specialists with Parks Canada announced plans to remove all the fish from Johnson Lake. Parks is planning to use nets and electrofishing this spring to begin the removal process. They'll pack it in for the summer months between Canada Day on July 1 and the end of the Labour Day weekend in September. The lake will be open for visitation this summer, but all watercraft will remain banned. This includes stand-up paddleboards as well. The spores are just too easily spread by watercraft and all too often the boats are not cleaned well enough to make sure they are spore free. In the fall they'll continue to collect fish and also lower the water level using pumps in order to make it easier to force the fish into a smaller area and facilitate their capture. It's also a better time to lower the water level as park biologists are worried about the local amphibian population and they're more prevalent in the lake during springtime. Story 3 - Shocking Bears As part of a recent study undertaken by Parks Canada in coordination with Canadian Pacific Railway, park officials are continuing to investigate the use of electrified mats or electromats along with electrified fencing in areas that have become hotspots for bear fatalities. The mats are still in the experimental phase and the heavy snowfalls that occur in the mountains still provide limitations to their effectiveness. A number of different solutions are being investigated and many different solutions may eventually be incorporated to reduce the number of bears fatally struck by trains passing through the mountain parks. Story 4 - Pine Beetle Updates The past 2 decades has seen our mountain media full of stories of the mountain pine beetle. This tiny beetle has decimated pine forests through the mountain west for the past 10-20 years. Pine beetles are barely the size of a grain of rice, yet they are the most damaging insect pest in North America. The odd thing is that they are not some introduced pest from Europe or Asia, but a natural part of the mountain forest ecosystem. Every species is a reflection of its habitat as reflected in the climate, landscape, and plant communities. The mountain pine beetle has always been a part of this larger ecosystem, but in the last 20 years, it has exploded in numbers and in many ways overwhelmed the forests that it has called home.
Western Michigan was once an area of vast dunes along the shores of Lake Michigan. Mature forests attracted the timber industry in the early 1800s and during the Victorian era, the beauty attracted people to come live. One of those people was a German immigrant and he brought his love and inspiration of German castles to an area outside of Holland, Michigan, along Lake Michigan. He built a small replica of a German castle for his family. Castle Park developed around the castle as cottages were built for vacationers. The Castle became an Inn and now serves as a community center. And it would seem that one of the original family members chooses to hang out here in the afterlife. There are also some interesting legends related to this area of Lake Michigan. Join us for the history and hauntings of the German Castle at Castle Park. The Moment in Oddity features the Pedro Mountains Mummy and This Month in History features the discovery and naming of Rio de Janeiro. We also have the ninth installment in the third series of Tim Prasil's Spectral Edition. Our location was suggested by Becki Sturgeon.
