Say It Skillfully® is a show that helps you to benefit from Molly Tschang's expert guidance on the best possible ways to speak your mind at work in a positive and productive manner. In Episode 198, Molly is joined by her friend Jason Castano, a shining example of a young person who took the bull by the horns, found his passions and never stopped believing in what was possible. For Jason's parents the only way to leave Colombia with hope of America was entrusting a total stranger with their lives and life savings to fly to Mexico, swim across a river at night with their young daughter, fly to California, and then to New York. His father made $3/hour washing dishes and his mother was a maid. Jason overwhelmingly recalls gratitude for their “hard work” and a happy childhood, always having what he needed. Admittedly shy, skinny and insecure as a child, Jason talks about being bullied and then transformed by being part of a karate fight team. He reflects about the opportunity to be top 8 out of 300 as the first time he really wanted something. The good fortune of joining a military program for high schoolers completed his metamorphosis to a self-confident, strong youth with a new lease on life. Hear how Jason played the long game in boldly embarking on his first career as a physical trainer, which took him on private jets and a chance to see the world. Living his core values with his clients, endless work ethic and penchant to always exceed expectations helped him break through. And in 2015 when a client offered him an opportunity to move into real estate, Jason found his “dream job” as portfolio asset manager and agent for River 2 River Realty. Hear how he now supports family members to immigrate and make better lives for themselves. Many nuggets to be gleaned from Jason's journey! Don't miss how he was “chest up, shoulders back” and always grateful when people entrusted him. Jason inspires us to be the very best versions of ourselves. Molly's thought for the week – a quote from his uncle that keeps Jason alive and motivated, “Be a creature of progression”. p.s. Jason is on his way to leading with his full potential. In this week's Team Never Quit Podcast, Marcus has an engaging conversation with Mark Lauren, who revolutionized the U.S. army's training systems, and trained hundreds of U.S. Special Forces operatives. Mark possesses astonishing physical prowess as a Military Physical Training Specialist, Special Operations Combat Controller, triathlete and mixed martial artist. He broke, and still holds, the Department of Defense s long-standing underwater record by swimming 133 meters, on one breath, subsurface, for 2 minutes and 23 seconds. He is also a bestselling fitness author. Mark trained and competed all across Thailand in Muay Thai. His physical and mental development has inspired a new approach to fitness that has allowed millions of people to move better without the confines of a gym. Mark's book, You Are Your Own Gym was published by Random House. His audience identifies with his minimalist approach to fitness, as well as his stories of overcoming failures. In this episode you will hear: I started working out when I was 12 with pushups and sit-ups next to my bed. I got to the point that I could do indefinite sit-ups. Physical fitness is about fundamentals – it's about basics. Characteristics like respect and discipline are what parents need to teach. Real character does not reveal itself when everything is great. You only fail when you quit. When you fail, brush yourself off and do it again. Whatever success I've had is built on repetitive failures. When I got out of the military, I really missed the comradery and sense of purpose. Exercise doesn't necessarily relate to improved performance. If your fundamentals are strong, it's much easier to specialize. You really need to be good at getting from point A to point B – Locomotion. The first 3 things people need to do is to reestablish basic joint functions for the hips, spine, and shoulders. There's a difference between performance and exercise. An important part of good exercise habits is to engrain good habits. What you put your attention on, and controlling your breathing do a lot to influence your feelings. General health and well-being depends on doing basic things really well. One of the main things that keep people from really getting fit – is doing too much. Start small and progress gradually. I've coached runners for 15+ years and served as Head Coach for SoleMates for GOTRPS for 5 years. I hold Yoga Teacher Certification RYT200 (2015), STOTT Pilates Mat-based practice training (2010), and a certification as a Holistic Health Coach from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition (2013). I'm currently pursuing the GGS-1 Women's Coaching Specialist Certification with additional study regarding movement and PCOS, strength training specific to Menopause, and pre/post-natal considerations for movement. I now live in Seattle, WA with my incredibly patient and kind wife of 12 years (almost 13 years) and our 3 dogs; Oliver (Boxador), Pumpkin (Italian Greyhound/Chihuaua), and Emmie (Chihuahua). Would you believe me if I told you that my wife and I met on Craigslist? Lol. I looooove live music, random acts of kindness, paddle boarding on Lake Washington, and cozy nights watching some sort of trashy television. I love movement in many different forms and I do the work that I do because I'm passionate about it – and I love to use that passion for movement to support others. I love triathlons, a really good slice of pizza, saying hello to every dog I meet – ever, and reading trashy books on the beach.

Industry Leaders from the world of Beauty & Fashion providing thought provoking insights from Inspiring minds. Guests are interviewed on their experiences in both Fashion and Beauty and offer the Beauty Fashion and War audience guidance, wisdom and candor. Anya Olwen Bio Anya Olwen is no ordinary trainer. An accomplished athlete at a very young age, her curiosity about how things work brought her to the science fields; she wanted to know everything she could about the inner workings behind physical training and strengthening. Her background includes extensive education and training in fitness and wellness; sports, and chemistry and biotechnology. Even as a young girl, Anya drew inspiration from her athletic involvement. She found that her character was strengthening through not only the intense dedication that was required, but through the power of being part of a team; what she was able to contribute to others, and what others were contributing to her; the very selflessness of teamwork left an indelible mark on Anya's character. Functional Training and Anya's Philosophy Anya's specialty is Functional Training; a classification of exercise which involves training the body for activities performed in day-to-day life—it is derived from the work of Physical Therapists.  Anya is committed to increasing quality of life through exercise, and Functional Training is designed to work your body as one unit, restoring balance where there might be (and often is) imbalance.  While she is no fan of sedentary living; she is just as impassioned when it comes to the damage caused by singling out and overworking specific body parts. "Abs of Ridiculous Ripples," "Hollywood Hills Muscle Monsters" do not give you health or functionality! We use the entirety of our body to live our lives, so to over-build one area leaves the rest functionally weaker.  More importantly, working muscle groups at that level of isolation leads to joint problems and ultimately bone realignment, which can compromise your internal organs. A balanced, purposeful program gets you looking good—that's right, even naked—but more importantly, it brings ease to the simple tasks of living, such as getting up the stairs quickly; playing on the ground or running around outside with your kids; moving that desk. Bending, rotation movements—focus on this type of strengthening directly impacts your quality of life. While training the body, we are also training our mind—literally reestablishing the work of the motor unit. This is the neurological brain-muscle connection. Anya is very specific when she trains to ensure her clients are control of each movement. This again draws from the PT world. Anya will renew with you, or in some cases build from scratch, that essential connection between the desire to do something and the actual physicality of doing it. Anya Olwen is an ACSM Certified Fitness Professional and Wellness Coach. She received her Bachelor from Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia. Anya completed her master's in Physical Education and Sports; Figure Skating Division from Russian State University of Physical Education, Sport, Youth and Tourism. Bulgakov  Look Inside on Amazon - Click Here Description: "The Master and Margarita is a novel by Mikhail Bulgakov, written between 1928 and 1940 but unpublished in book form until 1967. It is woven around a visit by the Devil to the fervently atheistic Soviet Union. Many critics consider it to be one of the best novels of the 20th century, and the foremost of Soviet satires. In part, it is angled against a suffocatingly bureaucratic social order." Perfume: The story of a murderer' by P. Süskind Look Inside on Amazon - Click Here Description: "An acclaimed bestseller and international sensation, Patrick Suskind's classic novel provokes a terrifying examination of what happens when one man's indulgence in his greatest passion—his sense of smell—leads to murder. In the slums of eighteenth-century France, the infant Jean-Baptiste Grenouille is born with one sublime gift-an absolute sense of smell. As a boy, he lives to decipher the odors of Paris, and apprentices himself to a prominent perfumer who teaches him the ancient art of mixing precious oils and herbs. But Grenouille's genius is such that he is not satisfied to stop there, and he becomes obsessed with capturing the smells of objects such as brass doorknobs and frest-cut wood. Then one day he catches a hint of a scent that will drive him on an ever-more-terrifying quest to create the "ultimate perfume"—the scent of a beautiful young virgin. Told with dazzling narrative brillance, Perfume is a hauntingly powerful tale of murder and sensual depravity." American Tragedy by T. Dreiser  Look Inside on Amazon - Click Here Description: "Clyde Griffiths finds his social-climbing aspirations and love for a rich and beautiful debutante threatened when his lower-class pregnant girlfriend gives him an ultimatum. The novel is a tragedy in the strict sense, Clyde's destruction being the consequence of his innate weaknesses: moral and physical cowardice, lack of scruple and self-discipline, muddled intellect and unfocused ambition; additionally, the effect of his ingratiating social manner places temptation in his way which he cannot resist."  100 Years of Solitude by G.G Marquez Look Inside on Amazon - Click Here Description: "One Hundred Years of Solitude is a 1967 novel by Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez that tells the multi-generational story of the Buendía family, whose patriarch, José Arcadio Buendía, founds the town of Macondo, the metaphoric Colombia. The widely acclaimed book, considered by many to be the author's masterpiece, was first published in Spanish in 1967, and subsequently has been translated into thirty-seven languages and has sold more than 30 million copies. The magical realist style and thematic substance of One Hundred Years of Solitude established it as an important, representative novel of the literary Latin American Boom of the 1960s and 1970s, which was stylistically influenced by Modernism (European and North American) and the Cuban Vanguardia literary movement." Therapist. Martial Artist. Physical Trainer. Brooklyn-born, Philadelphia-dwelling Arnold Jensky (Arnie) is a family friend of mine and a damn good addiction counselor and family therapist. So good, in fact, that I invited him to be on the show and really tell us, no-holds-barred, why the hell so many entrepreneurs are marred by fear: fear of success, fear of failure, fear of being seen, fear of being invisible. Not only does he deliver, he in turn reveals his own battle with being less than proficient in technology, aka the fear of being left behind while everyone moves ahead and makes more money than you. Bonus: While on the Skype call, Arnie's wife comes into the kitchen, says hello and proceeds to do the dishes during the interview. Because Arnie ain't nothing but the real thing.
