It was great to say hi to Steve backstage for a minute, and super inspiring to watch him dazzle the the crowd with his great guitar playing — so inspiring, in fact, that I figured we ought to revisit this epic guitar hang from the summer of 2016 at his then-Los Angeles studio, where he plugged in, played his ass off, and showed us how he and Billy Idol forged one of the greatest singer/guitar player partnerships in rock history. Rest to Return is a podcast for a restless world. Kohenet Keshira haLev Fife is your host. This series is rooted in Shabbat, an ancient Jewish practice that teaches us how to belong to time. Here, rest is a sacred rhythm woven into who we are. We continue by gathering around a single question: Who do we become when we rest? Lecha Dodi is the song that ends Kabbalat Shabbat (the service that helps us transition into Shabbat) before we move into the Ma'ariv prayer service.  The idea that Creator finished creation on the seventh day comes from Genesis 2:2. Day 2910 – Wisdom Nuggets – Psalm 145:1-7 Daily Wisdom Wisdom-Trek Podcast Script - Day 2908 Welcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2910 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. The Title for today's Wisdom-Trek is: The Unsearchable Majesty – Passing the Torch of Praise Across Generations On our previous expedition, on Day Two Thousand Nine Hundred Eight, we concluded our study of Psalm One Hundred Forty-Four with a breathtaking vision of kingdom flourishing. We listened as King David moved out of the smoky, chaotic fray of battle, praying for sturdy sons, elegant daughters, overflowing barns, and safe city streets, crowning his prayer with that unforgettable, majestic beatitude: “Joyful indeed are those whose God is the Lord!” Today, as we step onto a glorious new summit along our multi-month trek through the Book of Psalms, we advance directly into Psalm One Hundred Forty-Five, verses one through seven. This psalm marks a monumental milestone in our entire series. It is the very last psalm in the Psalter explicitly attributed to King David, and it functions as a grand, royal gateway into the final doxology of the Old Testament. In the preceding psalms—from Psalm One Hundred Forty through One Hundred Forty-Four—we heard David crying out in intense distress, begging for rescue from violent men, hidden nets, and deceptive tongues. But here, in Psalm One Hundred Forty-Five, the prayers for deliverance fall silent, and pure, uninhibited, kingdom praise takes center stage. David lays down his military sword, picks up his golden harp, and leads the entire cosmos in an eternal song of adoration. The first segment is: The Vow of the Viceroy: Exalting the Supreme King Let us open our hearts to the opening lines of this magnificent acrostic hymn, as recorded in the New Living Translation, grouping together the contiguous, deeply connected thoughts found in verse one and verse two. I will exalt you, my God and King, and praise your name forever and ever. I will praise you every day; yes, I will praise you forever. David opens this royal anthem with a passionate, deeply personal commitment, shouting, “I will exalt you, my God and King, and praise your name forever and ever. I will praise you every day; yes, I will praise you forever.” To fully appreciate the profound, revolutionary nature of these opening words, we must view them through the fascinating lens of the Ancient Israelite divine-council worldview. In the ancient Near East, earthly kings routinely claimed divine status for themselves. Pagan rulers built massive monuments, claiming to be absolute lords over their territory, demanding that their subjects bow before their supreme authority. But here stands King David—the undisputed, victorious monarch of Israel, the ruler of an expanding empire—and what does he do? He looks up into the heavens, and addresses Yahweh directly as “my God and King.” David recognizes a fundamental cosmic truth: his own royal authority is merely derivative. He is not the ultimate sovereign; he is merely the earthly viceroy, the covenant servant of the true King who sits enthroned above the celestial assembly of heaven. Notice, also, the dynamic rhythm of David's devotional life expressed in these two verses. He bridges the immediate present with the infinite future. He declares that he will praise God “every day”—establishing a discipline of consistent, daily worship along the dusty trails of life—while simultaneously declaring that this praise will endure “forever and ever.” David understands that praising the name of Yahweh—which represents His revealed character, His covenant reputation, and His supreme authority—is not a temporary earthly chore. It is the primary, joyful occupation of human beings and heavenly hosts alike, stretching past the boundaries of mortality directly into eternity. The second segment is: The Unsearchable Realm: Cosmic Greatness Beyond Measure The narrative of David's praise expands rapidly outward from his personal devotion to the infinite reality of God's nature, as recorded in verse three. Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness. David proclaims with unshakeable conviction, “Great is the Lord! He is most worthy of praise! No one can measure his greatness.” This singular verse serves as the foundational theological anchor for the entire psalm. When David exclaims that Yahweh is “great” and “most worthy of praise,” he is making a bold, cosmic comparison against all other powers in existence. In the ancient Israelite worldview, the cosmos was populated by various spiritual beings—angels, guardians, and fallen principalities. But Yahweh stands in a category completely by Himself. He is not merely the chief deity among many; He is the uncreated Creator, the absolute Master of the divine council, and the Lord of all earthly nations. Consider that remarkable phrase: “No one can measure his greatness.” In the original Hebrew, it literally reads, his greatness has no searching out. Every created entity in the universe—whether a human king, a mighty mountain, a blazing star, or a high-ranking angelic spirit—has boundaries, dimensions, and limitations. They can be measured, mapped, and comprehended. But the greatness of Yahweh is unfathomable, bottomless, and infinite! You can swim in the ocean of His glory for ten thousand years, and you will never hit bottom. Because His majesty is completely beyond human and angelic measurement, the praise offered to Him can never be exhausted. There will always be new depths of His character to discover, and new reasons to lift our voices in awe. The third segment is: The Legacy of Praise: Passing the Torch Across Generations Having established the unsearchable greatness of the King, David turns his attention to how this glorious reality is transmitted through human history, linking his contiguous thoughts together in verse four and verse five. Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power. I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles. David outlines the divine relay race of truth, praying, “Let each generation tell its children of your mighty acts; let them proclaim your power. I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles.” Here, right at the center of Psalm One Hundred Forty-Five, we encounter the very heart and soul of our Wisdom-Trek mission: creating a living legacy! David realizes that the incredible truths of God's redemptive power must never be locked away in the past, nor can they be assumed to automatically transfer to the future. Faithfulness requires an intentional, intergenerational handoff. One generation must stand face-to-face with the next generation, actively recounting the “mighty acts” and “power” of Yahweh. In ancient Israel, this meant teaching children about the deliverance from Egypt, the splitting of the Red Sea, the thunderous revelation at Mount Sinai, and the faithful provision in the wilderness. For us today, it means testifying to our children and grandchildren about the ultimate victory of King Jesus, and sharing the concrete ways God has proven faithful in our own family histories. Notice, however, that David does not view this intergenerational legacy as a cold, academic history lesson. Look at verse five! He combines public proclamation with deep, quiet, personal contemplation, declaring, “I will meditate on your majestic, glorious splendor and your wonderful miracles.” The Hebrew phrasing here—hod ve-hadar—describes the radiant, terrifying beauty and regal dignity of a monarch sitting in His heavenly throne room. David takes time to slow down his racing mind, fixing his thoughts on the dazzling sple“dor of God's character. True legacy flows out of deep, private meditation. When we spend time contemplating the awe-inspiring miracles of God in the secret place, our public testimony to the next generation gains an irresistible, vibrant warmth. The forth segment is: The Cascading Fountain: Awe-Inspiring Deeds and Overflowing Goodness The narrative reaches a magnificent, joyful crescendo as David describes the infectious, widespread impact of God's mighty works, combining his final logical thoughts in verse six and verse seven. Your awe-inspiring deeds will be on every tongue; I will proclaim your greatness. Everyone will share the story of your wonderful goodness; they will sing with joy about your righteousness. “Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands. But he does not hesitate to punish and destroy those who reject him. Therefore, you must obey all these commands, decrees, and regulations I am giving you today.” (Deuteronomy 7:9–11 NLT) Our founding fathers framed a document that Thomas Jefferson drafted for the Second Continental Congress meeting in Philadelphia. Congress adopted the document on July 4, 1776. We call it the Declaration of Independence. Among other things it says, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” Pastor Chuck Smith once said that sometimes we forget that the Declaration of Independence, which declared independence from foreign tyranny, also declared our dependence on an eternal God. We see this in its closing words: “And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor.” Our forefathers believed that there is a God who guides the affairs of humankind. And they founded our nation on the teachings of the Bible. Thomas Jefferson, our third president, said, “The Bible is the cornerstone of liberty.” Andrew Jackson, our seventh president, called the Bible “the Rock upon which our republic rests.” And Abraham Lincoln, our 16th president, said of the Bible, “All the good the Saviour gave to the world was communicated through this book. But for it we could not know right from wrong. All things most desirable for man’s welfare, here and hereafter, are to be found portrayed in it.” Two hundred and fifty years after the founding of our nation, our need for God’s Word has never been greater. Deuteronomy 7:9–11 says, “Understand, therefore, that the Lord your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and lavishes his unfailing love on those who love him and obey his commands. But he does not hesitate to punish and destroy those who reject him. Therefore, you must obey all these commands, decrees, and regulations I am giving you today” (NLT). There is much to gain by placing God’s Word once again at the center of American life. And there is even more to lose in rejecting His Word. The wisdom of God’s Word is eternal, timeless. It’s not outdated. It’s not a relic. It doesn’t belong to an earlier, simpler time. The keys to the spiritual revival our nation so desperately needs can be found in its pages. Chabad Chassidus is an all-embracing world outlook and way of life which sees the Jew's central purpose as a unifying link between the Creator and His world. Written by the Alter Rebbe, the founder of Chabad, Tanya is the central text of Chabad Chassidus. It shows the reader a path to realizing their purpose and developing a deeper relationship with G-d. In this lesson from the Gate of Repentance (Shaar HaTeshuvah), Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe explores one of the most compassionate principles of Jewish thought: teshuvah is deeply personal. Not everyone possesses the same knowledge, temperament, emotional resilience, or physical ability. Just as the courts in the Temple era evaluated each individual before administering punishment according to what they could physically endure, so too every person's path of repentance must be tailored to their unique circumstances. There is no universal formula for returning to Hashem. The wise mentor or teacher must understand the individual and guide them according to their strengths, limitations, and spiritual capacity.Rabbi Wolbe emphasizes that authentic spiritual growth requires knowing ourselves honestly. Some people thrive through physical discipline, while others would become discouraged by overly demanding practices. Acts of self-restraint—such as limiting physical pleasures, fasting occasionally, or taking on other personal challenges—are valuable only when they genuinely help a person grow closer to Hashem. He shares personal examples, including his own dislike of cold weather and his son's willingness to embrace cold-water challenges, illustrating that every individual must choose the path that strengthens their own character rather than imitate someone else's. I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2908 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. On our previous expedition, on Day Two Thousand Nine Hundred Seven, we stood amazed as we explored the first half of Psalm One Hundred Forty-Four, focusing on verses one through eight. We witnessed David, the warrior king, standing directly on the rugged frontiers of cosmic conflict, shouting praises to Yahweh, the majestic Storm Warrior, who trains his hands for war and gives his fingers skill for battle. We listened as David pleaded for the Almighty to bow the heavens, flash His supernatural lightning, and rip open the cosmic veil to rescue him from the "deep waters"—those treacherous, lying foreign enemies who sought to subvert the divine order. Today, we step directly onto the second half of this magnificent mountain pass, diving deeply into Psalm One Hundred Forty-Four, verses nine through fifteen. The spiritual and narrative scenery undergoes a beautiful, breathtaking transformation here. We are moving out of the clashing, smoky din of cosmic warfare, and stepping directly into a quiet, sunlit valley filled with a glorious, harmonious symphony of peace, domestic prosperity, and generational restoration. David understands a profound kingdom truth that every wise trekker must grasp: the ultimate purpose of divine warfare is never just the destruction of the enemy; it is the comprehensive establishment of shalom—the complete, flourishing wholeness of a society living in perfect alignment with the Creator. The first segment is: The New Song of the Vindicate Viceroy Let us open our ears to the first movement of this concluding sequence, as recorded in the New Living Translation, where David groups his logical thoughts together in verse eights, verse nine, and verse ten. I will sing a new song to you, O God! I will play on a ten-stringed lute. For you give victory to kings! You rescued your servant David from the fatal sword. David anchors his future firmly in praise, declaring with joyful anticipation, “I will sing a new song to you, O God! I will play on a ten-stringed lute. For you give victory to kings! You rescued your servant David from the fatal sword.” To fully appreciate the weight of these lines, we must view them through the fascinating lens of the Ancient Israelite divine-council worldview. In the ancient Near East, kingship was not merely a matter of human politics or military strategy. The king of Israel was uniquely designated as the earthly viceroy, the covenant partner, of Yahweh, who sits enthroned above the celestial assembly. While the surrounding pagan nations looked to their localized, rebellious deities for military dominance, David looks directly to the supreme Creator. When he mentions that God “gives victory to kings,” the original Hebrew word for victory is teshuah, which carries the profound meaning of deliverance, salvation, and cosmic rescue. David is acknowledging that no earthly monarch—regardless of how massive his infantry or how brilliant his chariot tactics might be—can secure a true victory outside of the sovereign decree of the heavenly council. Furthermore, when David vows to sing a “new song” while playing upon a ten-stringed lute, he is introducing a powerful prophetic concept. In biblical theology, a new song is never just a fresh melody; it represents a brand-new epoch in human history. It is an anthem of redemption that is sung only after a decisive, miraculous victory has been secured by the arm of the Lord. The ten-stringed lute adds a layer of majestic, symphonic fullness to this praise. David is orchestrating a grand celebration before the heavenly hosts, publicly testifying that it was not his own royal status or human strength that preserved his life, but rather the active, intervening hand of Yahweh, who personally stepped into the fray to snatch His chosen servant away from the edge of the fatal, chaotic sword. The second segment is: The Persistent Refrain: Confronting Systemic Falsehood The narrative takes a fascinating, highly strategic turn in verse eleven, as David repeats a powerful, familiar refrain that links this section directly back to the warfare themes of our previous podcast episode. Save me! Deliver me from the power of my enemies. Their mouths are full of lies; they swear to tell the truth, but they lie instead. David breaks back into an urgent, defensive petition, crying out, “Save me! Deliver me from the power of my enemies. Their mouths are full of lies; they swear to tell the truth, but they lie instead.” You might wonder why David, right after promising to sing a triumphant new song of victory, would suddenly drop right back into a desperate plea for rescue from lying adversaries. This literary structure reveals a profound truth about our daily trek of faith. The victory has been legally decreed in the heavenly courtroom, but the final mopping-up operations are still being actively contested on the earthly battlefield. David is dealing with foreign, hostile entities who do not share his covenant allegiance to the Most High. He describes them as having mouths full of lies, individuals who raise their hands to take solemn, binding oaths of truth, but unleash calculated perjury instead. This persistent focus on deception connects perfectly with the broader theological tapestry of Psalms One Hundred Forty through One Hundred Forty-Three. In the ancient world, truth was the foundational concrete that held cosmic and social order together. When a nation's leaders weaponize systemic lies, gaslighting, and false diplomacy, they are actively mimicking the original, deceptive language of the ancient serpent, attempting to dissolve the boundaries of truth established by God. David recognizes that he cannot build a flourishing, prosperous society if the foundations are continuously being eroded by foreign deception. Therefore, before he can detail the beautiful blessings of peace, he must ask the Sovereign Lord to completely sever the influence of these toxic, deceitful operations from the borders of his land. The third segment is: The Blueprint of Shalom: A Flourishing Next Generation Once the dark, chaotic waters of deception are pushed back by divine justice, the true, exquisite design of kingdom prosperity can burst forth. Let us listen to the magnificent generational blueprint David maps out in verse twelve. May our sons flourish in their youth like well-nurtured plants. May our daughters be like graceful pillars, carved to beautify a palace. David paints a breathtaking portrait of domestic flourishing, praying, “May our sons flourish in their youth like well-nurtured plants. May our daughters be like graceful pillars, carved to beautify a palace.” Notice the deep, highly intentional metaphors David employs to describe the vibrant health of the next generation. He prays that the young sons of the kingdom will grow up like well-nurtured, deeply rooted plants. In a rugged, agricultural society, a well-nurtured plant represents vitality, strength, consistent productivity, and future stability. It implies that these young men are being carefully cultivated in the soil of wisdom, growing up to become sturdy, reliable protectors and providers who will uphold the moral integrity of the covenant community. Simultaneously, David looks upon the young women of the kingdom, praying that the daughters would be like graceful, elegant pillars, exquisitely carved to beautify a majestic palace. This imagery carries immense structural and architectural significance. In the ancient Near East, the corner pillars of a palace or a temple were not merely ornamental; they were massive, load-bearing structures that held the entire weight of the roof together, ensuring the stability of the building. Yet, they were also heavily sculpted with intricate, beautiful artwork. David is declaring that the women of Israel are the dignified, essential pillars of society. Full Transcript Below: Enjoy a Picnic with GodBy: Whitney Hopler Bible Reading:“He makes grass grow for the cattle, and plants for people to cultivate – bringing forth food from the earth: wine that gladdens human hearts, oil to make their faces shine, and bread that sustains their hearts.” – Psalm 104:14-15, NIV Some of my favorite childhood memories are of simple picnics with my mom in our backyard or at local parks. Mom could turn an ordinary afternoon into an extraordinary experience just by packing sandwiches, grapes, chips, and lemonade for us to eat and drink outside. I remember how I always got a fresh perspective while picnicking in the fresh air. My world seemed to open up in nature, and my senses seemed stronger, too. I noticed the way the sunlight filtered through the trees and how every different type of bird sang a different kind of song. The sandwiches somehow tasted better outside than indoors, as well. Most importantly, on those picnics, I felt connected to something bigger than myself. Later, I learned that something was a Someone – God – who always joined us on our picnics. In our fast-paced world, we often rush through eating and don’t spend enough time outside in nature. But God actually designed them to help us connect to him. Psalm 104:14-15 points out that God provides a creative variety of plants that people and animals alike enjoy. God could have made all food and drinks taste the same and provided them to us just to survive. But instead, God created a wonderful variety for us to truly enjoy. This passage says that God created “wine that gladdens,” “oil to make faces shine,” and “bread that sustains.” In other words, God cares about us actually enjoying our experiences. God wants us to do more than just eat a granola bar in a hurry while driving to work, rush through lunch at our desks, and pick up dinner in a fast-food drive-thru line. God wants us to eat mindfully, so we can really enjoy the experience of eating and reflect on God’s generosity and love for us. God also designed us to enjoy spending time in nature. We can learn a lot about God in nature, because creation reflects the Creator’s qualities. A picnic can help us connect with God by doing both of those activities that God intends for us. Experience that for yourself! Schedule a picnic into your schedule sometime soon. Sit on a blanket on the “grass for the cattle” mentioned in Psalm 104, or at a picnic table on top of the grass. Say a prayer of thanks to God for the food, the “bread that sustains,” and all the other food you brought with you, which God ultimately made possible for you to enjoy. Eat slowly, savoring every bite of your food so you can taste God’s goodness to you. During a picnic, you can let the fresh air inspire you to find a fresh perspective on your life. Let yourself pay full attention to all the wonder around you, and let that remind you of how God cares for you in every detail of your life. Look up at the vast sky and down at tiny wildflowers to see how God designed every part of creation – everything, of all sizes – with loving care. Enjoy a picnic with God whenever you can. Don’t wait for a special occasion. Pack a sandwich, find some grass nearby, and let the simple pleasures of God’s creation lead you back to him. What if the greatest shift you could make in your financial life didn't begin with a new budget, a better investment strategy, or a higher income—but with surrender? We don't often think of surrender as a financial word, but it lies at the heart of biblical stewardship. When we embrace the life-changing truth that God owns everything, it transforms how we live, give, plan, and manage the resources He has entrusted to us. The First Question Scripture Asks When we think about money, we tend to ask familiar questions: How much do I have? How much will I need? Am I making progress? Am I doing better or worse than others? Those questions may be important, but they are not where Scripture begins. From the opening pages of the Bible, God is revealed as the Creator and owner of everything. Before humanity ever cultivated a garden or named a creature, God formed, filled, and ruled creation. Psalm 24:1 declares: “The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof, the world and those who dwell therein.” Simply put, God is the owner, and we are His stewards. For many Christians, that is a familiar idea. But familiarity does not always lead to surrender. We may affirm that God owns the universe while living as though we built our lives entirely through our own effort. We say, “I worked for this,” or, “I earned this.” And while diligent work matters, Scripture reminds us that even our ability to produce wealth comes from God. Deuteronomy 8:18 says: “You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth.” Our talents, opportunities, health, time, and ability to work are all gifts from the Lord. Owners or Stewards? Jesus develops this idea in the parable of the talents in Matthew 25. A master entrusts resources to three servants before leaving on a journey. Two servants put what they received to work, while the third buries his portion out of fear. When the master returns, he commends the first two servants—not merely because they produced impressive results, but because they were faithful. That distinction matters. The world often defines success by outcomes: how much we earn, accumulate, grow, or achieve. God calls us to something deeper—faithfulness with whatever He has placed in our hands. If God owns everything, then we are not owners in the ultimate sense. We are managers. The New Testament word commonly translated as “steward” is oikonomos, meaning “household manager.” A steward manages resources he did not create, for purposes he did not determine, under the authority of the master he serves. At first, that may sound limiting. In reality, it is profoundly freeing. As financial teacher Ron Blue has often said, “If God owns it all, you can't lose anything.” Ownership carries an enormous burden. The owner must ultimately provide, protect, and control. But if God is the owner, then we do not have to carry those responsibilities alone. Stewardship carries responsibility, but it also rests on trust. When Financial Choices Become Worship When we truly embrace stewardship, ordinary financial decisions become opportunities to worship God. Budgeting becomes more than organizing income and expenses. It becomes a way of aligning our desires with God's priorities. Giving becomes a response to the generosity we have already received from Him. Saving becomes wise preparation rather than fearful hoarding. Planning becomes an act of obedience rather than an attempt to control every possible outcome. Investing becomes a way to cultivate and multiply what belongs to the Lord, not a strategy for securing complete independence from Him. The Puritan pastor Thomas Watson once wrote, “What we keep, we may lose. What we give to God is kept forever.” That statement reminds us that earthly ownership is temporary, but faithful stewardship has eternal significance. The apostle Paul writes in 1 Timothy 6:7: “For we brought nothing into the world, and we cannot take anything out of the world.” That reality is not meant to discourage us. It is meant to liberate us. When we stop clutching what we cannot keep, we become free to invest our lives in what can never be lost. Faithfulness Begins With Surrender If God owns everything, what does He expect from us? Jesus gives us a clear answer in Luke 16:10: “One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much.” Faithfulness is not determined by the size of our income, investment portfolio, home, or charitable gifts. It is about how we respond to whatever God has entrusted to us. Stewardship is not reserved for the wealthy. It applies to every person in every financial season. A person living paycheck to paycheck can be faithful. A retiree managing decades of savings can be faithful. A young adult earning their first salary can be faithful. A business owner, parent, student, or widow can all honor God through the resources in their care. Faithfulness is not primarily about how much we have. It is about whether we have surrendered what we have to God. And surrender always begins in the heart. The Humility and Hope of Stewardship When we accept that God owns it all, we receive two things the world cannot offer: humility and hope. We gain humility because we stop viewing our accomplishments as entirely self-made. We recognize God as the source of our abilities, opportunities, and provision. We gain hope because we realize that we are not carrying the burden of provision alone. God equips. God guides. God provides. That does not mean we stop working, planning, or making wise decisions. Biblical stewardship requires diligence. But it allows us to work faithfully without treating every result as though it depends entirely on us. So where might God be inviting you to shift from an owner's mindset to a steward's heart? Perhaps it is in your giving, planning, saving, or lifestyle. Perhaps it is in the quiet assumption that your security depends more on markets, income, or possessions than on the God who “owns the cattle on a thousand hills” (Psalm 50:10). Stewardship is not about God trying to get something from you. It is about God doing something within you. It reorders the heart so that money occupies its proper place—not as a master, but as a tool entrusted to us for God's purposes and glory. Imagine being granted an audience with a king. As you enter the throne room, you would not begin by rushing through your list of requests—you would first acknowledge his majesty. The relationship between the beaded lacewing larvae and the California termite poses a real problem for those who believe there is no Creator.The lacewing larvae enter termite nests in order to finish their growth cycle. Later, they leave as adults. The problem is that termites are often still at home when the larvae enter the nest. The termites, 30 times the size of the larvae, pose a serious threat to the larvae. But if you watch the larvae enter the nest, they wave their abdomen to an approaching termite and the targeted termite immediately falls over. Upon further study, scientists have learned that the tiny larva releases a chemical that totally paralyzes the termite. Studies have also shown that the chemical works only on this particular species of termite.The evolutionary explanation is that for millions of years lacewing larvae crawled up to every sort of insect madly waving their abdomens at them – and were promptly eaten! One wonders how the larvae survived at all and why it was that their chemical protection just happened to work on those termites that made nice safe tunnels for them to grow in.To believe that the lacewing's defense developed just by chance is nothing more than blind faith. It's not science. And it is a very opposite kind of faith from those who believe in a Creator!Exodus 8:19"Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” And Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them, as the Lord had said.”Prayer: Dear Father, Your fingerprints can be seen everywhere in the creation. Chabad Chassidus is an all-embracing world outlook and way of life which sees the Jew's central purpose as a unifying link between the Creator and His world. In times of uncertainty, we often find ourselves scanning the horizon for solutions, our eyes darting between bank accounts, relationships, medical reports, and countless other potential fixes. But Psalm 121 invites us into a radically different posture: lifting our eyes upward before looking around. This ancient song of ascent, sung by travelers on dangerous roads to Jerusalem, speaks directly to our modern journeys through difficulty and doubt. Besides the time you give morning and evening, which should not be less than fifteen minutes, and the hourly remembrances you make throughout the day, use the idea as often as you can between them. Each of these ideas alone would be sufficient for salvation, if it were learned truly. Each would be enough to give release to you and to the world from every form of bondage, and invite the memory of God to come again.With this in mind we start our practicing, in which we carefully review the thoughts the Holy Spirit has bestowed on us in our last twenty lessons. Each contains the whole curriculum if understood, practiced, accepted, and applied to all the seeming happenings throughout the day. One is enough. But from that one, there must be no exceptions made. And so we need to use them all and let them blend as one, as each contributes to the whole we learn.These practice sessions, like our last review, are centered round a central theme with which we start and end each lesson. It is this:I am not a body. I am free.For I am still as God created me.The day begins and ends with this. And we repeat it every time the hour strikes, or we remember, in between, we have a function that transcends the world we see. Matthew in his Gospel is more prolific than the other Gospel writers in quoting the Old Testament prophecies that Jesus fulfilled.  Today we have in his 21st chapter the account of the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem (v.4-11). Matthew writes, “this took place to fulfil what was spoken by the prophet, saying ‘Behold your king is coming to you, mounted on a donkey … and the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, ‘Hosanna to the Son of David!  … Hosanna in the highest!'  And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up …”The prophet whom God caused to predict this was Zechariah (9 v.9) and we are prompted to think of his and those of other prophets who were caused to write of the incredible dramas at the time of his second coming. We also see the remarkable prophecies the disciples were later to make as recorded in the book of Acts (e,g, 3 v.20,21) and in their letters about his second coming; the scene will be truly awesome when true believers will be saying something like “Behold our king is coming in great glory.”  But, just as awesome, overwhelmingly so, will be his great power to bring vengeance on those who deny him, being totally blind to there being a Creator with a plan and purpose for his creation.When we come to Matthew 24 we will see how Jesus himself predicted his return, a time when conditions on earth will be “as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man.  For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware until …  so will be the coming of the Son of Man.” [v.37-39]There is nothing wrong with “eating and drinking” – it is essential – but Jesus is summing up human pleasures in life at that time, their main aim in living, with no thought of God, being the same as in the days of Noah.  Let us make sure we are not “unaware” but are ready to respond when we hear the words, “Behold your king is coming to you …”

God is the Creator of everyone, but not everyone is in His family. Nineteenth and twentieth century liberalism emphasized the universal fatherhood of God and the universal brotherhood of people. This false teaching disregards the gospel's call to repentance and dismisses the wickedness of sin. In this sermon on Ephesians 1:5–6 titled “Higher than Adam,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones confronts this wrong theology and continues to expose others that have harmed the church. Another errant teaching confronted by Dr. Lloyd-Jones in this sermon is the teaching that differentiates between “sons of God” and “children of God” and the benefits given to them. The former, according to this teaching, enjoy a much greater fellowship with God than the latter. Dr. Lloyd-Jones reminds how important sound doctrine is for the Christian church. While providing a robust response to these errors, Dr. Lloyd-Jones encourages seeing the absolute privilege Christians have in Christ. He does so by contrasting Adam and the Christian. He notes that in Christ the Christian has been given more than what was lost in Adam. The privilege of redemption includes forgiveness of sin but also exaltation to sonship.
