Read Online“Take courage, it is I; do not be afraid.” Peter said to him in reply, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” He said, “Come.” Matthew 14:27–29Peter and the other disciples were frightened. They were in a boat on the Sea of Galilee, the wind was strong, and the waves were crashing. This scene took place “during the fourth watch of the night,” which meant the time was early in the morning, between 3:00 and 6:00 a.m., when it was still dark. Jesus had been alone on a mountain praying during that night and now came walking on the water toward the disciples. When they saw our Lord, they cried out, “It is a ghost!” But then Jesus spoke the words quoted above to them, calming them and calling them to courage and trust.Imagine yourself being with the disciples as Jesus approached. How would you react? Would you, too, be filled with fear? Perhaps it is best to answer that question from two perspectives. One is from the perspective of our fallen human nature. The other comes from the perspective of Truth. First, from the perspective of our fallen human nature, there are many things in this life that tempt us to fear. Therefore, this Gospel passage should be seen as a prophetic action of our Lord by which He tells you that He wants to come to you and meet you in your fears. What is it that gives you the most fear in your life right now? Oftentimes fear has to do with the future and the unknown. What if this or that were to happen? Fear ultimately results from a lack of faith in God and His protective care.The second perspective from which we might see this passage is that of the full Truth. The truth is that the disciples not only had no need to fear, they actually had every reason to rejoice and be at peace. While on that boat, in the middle of the sea, in the middle of the night, during strong winds, it was God Himself, the Great I AM, Who was coming to protect them, care for them, and lead them safely to shore. Jesus' “it is I” could actually be translated more literally “I AM” in reference to Jesus' divinity.The last word in the passage quoted above is what Jesus speaks to all of us when we fall into fear and worry. Jesus says, “Come.” This word is a command and is a word spoken to you. It's a good word to prayerfully meditate upon and hear spoken to you during every struggle and fear you endure. Reflect, today, upon this Gospel passage and try to insert yourself into it. See the waves, wind, and darkness as symbols of whatever it is that troubles you the most. As you do, close your eyes and see Jesus, the Great I AM, coming to you. Gaze at Him and hear Him tell you to trust Him. Hear Him say to you, “Come.” Peter initially trusted and began to walk on water when he came to Jesus, but he quickly allowed his fear to set in and took his eyes off Jesus. As soon as he did, he began to sink. Turn your eyes to Jesus, keep them firmly fixed on Him, ignore the temptations in life that lead you to fear, and trust in God. He commands you to do so out of love. My saving Lord, You are God, the Great I AM, the Creator, Ruler and King of all. You and You alone are worthy of all my trust, dear Lord. When I struggle in life and allow fear to overwhelm me, please call to me and give me the wisdom and courage I need to fix my eyes firmly upon You and to come to You without faltering. Psalm 89 begins by praying to the LORD as the incomparable Creator of all things. He stills the mightiest forces in all creation by His mighty hand, and His people are blessed. That blessedness is seen especially in the LORD's steadfast promises to David and his son. Yet the people of God lament that the line of David seems to have withered under God's judgment, and so they pray that the LORD would remember His steadfast love and bring an end to the mockery of His anointed one. Through the promises spoken by the LORD in this psalm, the coming of Jesus Christ as the Son of David is foretold. Rev. In Psalm 95, we see a calling on our lives to worship and the how, why, and a warning.PSALM 95:1-111. THE HOW OF WORSHIP: We worship the Lord by coming to Him, by singing, by making a joyful noise, and by coming into His presence with thanksgiving (vs. 1-2).There is nothing complicated about the verb ‘come,' except to say that worship is all encompassing. Worship is personal and participatory at its core, never passive. - Doug Webster,The Psalms: So we have a parallelism here. Look with me to 1B and 2B.1B begins “Let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.”2B says “Let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise.” We come so often to God, if we come at all, as beggars. We ask and beg: give me; bless me; help me; guide me; grant me. And that's one necessary level of our existence. But in thanksgiving and adoration we come to God not to ask but to give! We come not whimpering but shouting praise; not in guilt but in gratitude. We feel not distant from God but close to God. We are like a traveler who is home again at last, the prodigal at a banquet. We make decisions about money, career, education, even family, and then sprinkle a few Bible verses on top. But the goal isn't to balance faith and work—it's to integrate them. That begins by grounding our understanding of work in a creational theology: God made work good.What we need in the church is not more dichotomy between sacred and secular, but an integrated vision that sees every good job—yes, even spreadsheets, sales, and software—as part of God's design. This mindset shift must begin in our pulpits. Our congregations need to hear that their Monday through Friday labor is not second-tier spiritual activity. It is sacred.The Relationship Between Work and RestInstead of chasing a “work-life balance,” Scripture offers a “work-rest paradigm.” God modeled six days of work followed by one day of rest—not the other way around. The purpose of rest isn't to escape work; it's to be restored for more of it. Rest has meaning because work has meaning.That's why we push back on the cultural narrative that says rest, leisure, and early retirement are life's ultimate goals. While rest is essential, its purpose is to equip us to return to the good, God-glorifying work He's called us to do.Culture often treats retirement as the finish line—an end to productivity, as if people cease to offer value once they reach a certain age. But that view is deeply flawed.We must challenge the financial industry's narrative that the goal is to accumulate enough so that we never have to work again. That mindset undermines the dignity and purpose of work. Yes, physical limitations may alter what work looks like in later years, but wisdom, experience, and the capacity to contribute remain. Companies and churches alike lose something precious when they usher older workers out instead of tapping into their gifts.Job, Career, or Calling?So, how should we think about our work? Is it just a job? A stepping stone? Or something more?Every Christian, no matter their vocation, should view their work as a calling. That doesn't mean God gives us a divine word about every job transition, but it does mean that the act of producing goods and services, solving problems, and serving others is inherently meaningful. That's our calling: to work with excellence, for the good of others, and the glory of God.To young adults wondering what to do with their lives: Don't believe the lie that you need to find your dream job tomorrow. Instead, embrace the next opportunity in front of you with excellence, humility, and a long-term view.Work is not just a means to a paycheck. Q:I watched your YT session on "If Christians should use AI". I have a dilemma currently with music. I only listen to Faith/Christian music and recently have found some new music that I am very much enjoying. I always do research on the band/music/song to ensure it is morally within the context of Scripture and the message is directed about Jesus. However, I found out that this new Christian/Faith music that I was listening to was AI created. The publisher of the music on social media has openly admitted that the songs are AI created. The messages in the songs are (in my belief) to be strong Christian messages. I do have some reservations with AI creating songs like this. I am not sure if I am over-reacting to this, but it scares me somewhat. One day we may not know what AI created and passed as someone's work. Would it be wrong to let AI help us create something that we feel are unable to express? It seems that we are cheating in some way by using AI. Summary: In this episode, Dr. E tackles a question about whether or not it's wrong to let AI help us creatively. AI isn't inherently evil. It's a tool—like electricity or a microwave. It can help us find information, speed up tasks, and even assist in medicine. But when it starts replacing our thinking, our creativity, or our worship, we need to pause. MIT research shows that relying on AI can actually reduce how our brains function. That's not just a tech issue. That's a spiritual issue. We're image-bearers of a creative God. We're meant to struggle, to think, to wrestle with truth and beauty. Taking shortcuts with something as sacred as worship or prayer robs us of the growth God intended. AI might be efficient, but it's not inspired. Takeaways: AI is a tool, not a substitute for the God-given work of creativity and discipleship. Outsourcing creative labor to AI can undermine spiritual formation. AI-generated messages, even with good theology, lack the soul of human wrestling. MIT studies show AI use diminishes brain activity and engagement over time. Christians should be cautious about “cheating” their way through expressions of faith. In this interview, he takes us to school on how the United Nations, its agency UNESCO, and its so-called World Court are driving world government and collectivism down each and every one of our throats. They never even dare mention the U.S. Declaration of Independence, which states: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed… In the collectivist model of thinking, the Declaration of Independence is considered invalid. There is no God to grant us any individual rights, and in no way do we possess certain unalienable personal rights, such as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Instead, in their twisted speech and thinking, there are collective “human rights,” which are to be determined and defined by them—the global predators who are forever exploiting, diminishing, and even killing us. The collectivist assault on America and humanity during COVID-19 was coordinated by Bill Gates, acting in part through the UN and its health agency, the WHO. We document this, along with Gates' actual Master Plan, in our book, Covid-19 and the Global Predators: We Are the Prey. In this interview, we further discuss the collectivist brainwashing of our children that has followed a similar pattern starting long before Covid, which has already made us into a dangerously docile nation, vulnerable to such an assault on our individual rights. I haven't liked talking about the global predators as psychopaths or sociopaths, because they are so much more grandiose and destructive than most of those miscreants, and also because I don't want ever to use any psychiatric diagnoses, all of which are used to disempower people. But I thought I'd try out politicopaths—powerful megalomaniacal rulers of as many human beings as they can dominate and exploit, enslave, or slaughter. There have been some notable successes for the Trump administration recently, including rejecting the WHO's new “international regulations” aimed at dominating the world and announcing plans to withdraw from UNESCO. But there are some notable failures in the Trump administration dealing with “politicopaths”, including the drug companies that make neurotoxic psychiatric drugs and deadly vaccines.
