They discuss the difference between boy fights and girl fights, the dangers of being a bystander, and how peer pressure and group chats often escalate things before the first punch is thrown. They also talk about the emotional toll it takes on teachers who are expected to break up brawls while avoiding lawsuits, staying safe, and protecting the students involved. It’s a celebration of the 40th anniversary of Live Aid! Live Aid was grand in scope and ambition. It was largely the brainchild of an unlikely hero, Bob Geldof, the Irish singer who fronted The Boomtown Rats, and who had helped assemble the all-star cast of Band Aid. Watched by 1.5 billion people, Live Aid eventually raised $127 US million for famine relief in Africa. But beyond that, Live Aid was also a cultural touchstone that showed the power of pop music and the determination of millions of people to make a difference in the world. Hours before the event took place, Christopher Ward had a chat with organizer Bob Geldof, who, in his intense way, told of the importance of Live Aid. He disputes the cultural significance in favour of the pragmatic view of delivering much needed aid to African famine relief. It’s an extraordinary interview with a man who is firing on all cylinders, almost to the breaking point. And of course, we also talk about the music, including: Although Geldof didn’t want them in the lineup, Freddie Mercury and the band provided the most memorable 22 minutes of the day, perhaps the best ever performance in music history. U2 – We have the full story of why they played only two songs that day… and how it became a major moment on their road to superstardom. David Bowie’s set was also memorable. But he almost didn’t play that day. And it was all because of a CBC report on the famine. We have the full story. Duran Duran. Simon LeBon made a considerable gaffe during one of their songs. He considers it the most embarrassing moment of his career. Led Zeppelin - why Jimmy Page blamed Phil Collins for Zeppelin’s less than perfect performance. There were also a number of artists who chose not to perform that day, including Bruce Springsteen, Michael Jackson, Prince, Culture Club and Huey Lewis. At least two of those acts regretted that decision. And we talk about the importance of Live Aid as a cultural milestone. Famous Lost Words, hosted by Christopher Ward and Tom Jokic, is heard in more than 100 countries worldwide and on radio stations across Canada, including Newstalk 1010 Toronto, CJAD 800 Montreal, 580 CFRA Ottawa, AM 800 CKLW Windsor, 610 CKTB St Catharines, CFAX Victoria, AM1150 Kelowna and 91x in Belleville. It is in the Top 20% of worldwide podcasts based on the number of listeners in the first week.

NEON COWGIRL "The Neon Cowgirl-towering over Broadway like the patron saint of heartbreak in downtown Nashville as she smiles coyly over her shoulder in red cowboy boots-watched me grow up. Basking in her glow, I walked wide-eyed into the Ryman Auditorium as a 16 year-old, clutching my ticket. Later that night, dreaming of standing on that stage, I drifted off to sleep in the bunk of our home on wheels at the KOA next to the Opry. When I was 18, she saw me flipping through Loretta Lynn CDs in Ernest Tubb Record Shop after performing the breakfast and lunch shows on the General Jackson showboat with my parents and brothers in our family band, The Neilsons. At 25, she watched me running all over town, meeting up with other songwriters-writing, writing, writing-before I had to fly back home to Canada again. At 30, I returned as a newlywed on my honeymoon, flying in from New Zealand where I'd moved for love, holding hands with my new husband in Hatch Show Print, introducing him to her like a family member. A decade passed without her as I built a life on the other side of the world and raised 2 babies. My heart raced as I returned to her once again, to showcase at Americanafest, playing to 12 people at 3rd and Lindsley. 5 years and many showcases later, I swear she smiled right at me as I stopped to point her out to my two children as we walked past her, through the doors of the Ryman to finally perform for the first time. NEON COWGIRL represents a lifelong dream of chasing Nashville and country music. I've loved her my whole life, even when she breaks my heart over and over again." This weeks guest = Tami Neilson - through much hard work, fierce determination and drive has begun to make all her dreams come true. She is blessed with a voice that's been described as "a fire breathing R&B belter" by Rolling Stone. Tami has now played the Ryman, sung a duet with her hero Willie Nelson. Travelled the highways and cities of the USA and Canada in an RV with her NZ family, so they could experience where she came from and the places on the planet she was singing about. Her latest adventure was opening for Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan as part of the Outlaw Music Festival. Dreams DO come true. She's done all this while dealing with health issues and her brother Jay's recovery from major surgery.

What does modern cybersecurity look like when you're leading a federally regulated financial institution serving Canadians from coast to coast? In this episode, recorded at Cisco Live last month, I sat down with Shawn Spurko, VP of Information and Cybersecurity at Innovation Federal Credit Union. Based in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, but now operating across the country, Shawn Spurko has played a key role in building a security posture that treats laptops as offices and supports a workforce no longer tethered to physical locations. Shawn Spurkoshares his journey from service desk and web design to becoming a cybersecurity leader, and offers a refreshingly grounded view of how to approach regulation, zero trust, and digital maturity. He explains how Innovation CU's move from a provincial to a federal charter transformed their compliance obligations and how solutions like Cisco Secure Access enabled them to scale security seamlessly for a hybrid workforce. We explore why transparent, user-friendly security is no longer optional and how mature implementations of SWG, ZTNA, DLP, and management tunnels are quietly solving problems before users even notice them. Shawn Spurkoalso opens up about the practical realities of working with tools that are constantly evolving, and how his team reviews every new feature not just for capability but for how it maps to regulatory controls like Canada's OSFI B-13. This episode is a masterclass in modern cyber strategy, but it's also a reminder that the goal isn't complexity, it's making things work, everywhere, all the time. So, as the cybersecurity landscape continues to shift and regulators tighten expectations, how are you designing systems that work for both users and auditors? And what lessons can we all learn from financial services as we navigate this new world of anywhere access?

Jamie Speiser-Blanchet, tells The House her priorities for the new role in a “volatile and uncertain” time. Finally, as Prime Minister Mark Carney's chief of staff and the new Clerk of the Privy Council officially take the reins of the federal government, Janice Charette, a former clerk who assisted with the Carney transition, and Ian Brodie, former chief of staff to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, lift the curtain on the high-pressure roles and examine the challenges of executing the prime minister's ambitious agenda. This episode features the voices of:Pierre Poilievre, leader of the Conservative Party of CanadaWesley Wark, senior fellow at the Centre for International Governance InnovationLt.-Gen. Currently blooming in a garden near you! The Growing Season highlights Lilies on this week's episode. Jack, Lynne and Matt McFarland discuss the little blooming bombs that are currently visible in your garden. What makes a lily a lily? Are they native to Canada? What does Clint Eastwood have to do with Day Lilies? There is a correlation. They're called Daylilies because they only bloom for a single day. Seriously. The trio discuss. Spider mite is discussed. The name “Stella” is used continuously throughout the show. The McFarlands discuss their most used perennials. The blooming cycle of a rebloomer comes into focus. Even with high interest rates, record-breaking mortgage renewals, a historic surge in pre-sale inventory, and the highest resale listings we've seen in over a decade, Vancouver real estate prices haven't crashed. Over the past 12 months, prices have only declined 2.8%, and though they're down 7% from the peak three years ago, they're still up 12% compared to five years ago.So, the obvious question is: Why?Why have home prices remained so stable—especially when consumer sentiment is low, lending standards are tighter than ever, and the economic outlook feels bleak? The answer lies in a series of critical financial indicators that reveal the underlying resilience of the Canadian housing market.Let's start with household net worth, which reached a record $17.7 trillion in Q1 2025, up 0.8% in the quarter and a staggering 82% over the last decade. Debt-to-disposable income has improved to 172%—a 10-year low—and the debt servicing ratio is down from last year's peak. Most significantly, Canada's asset-to-debt ratio now stands at $6.68 to $1, near all-time highs. This means Canadians, on average, hold six times more assets than they owe in debt. This growing wealth has profound implications. Over 50% of Vancouver homes are mortgage-free. And when sellers don't get their desired price, they're increasingly choosing to delist rather than drop their asking price. In May, delistings jumped 47% year-over-year. This is not a market where sellers are forced to capitulate—many are simply choosing to wait. That said, this resilience doesn't reflect the experience of younger Canadians. Homeownership remains elusive, and as Boomers eventually look to sell, there's real concern about whether younger buyers will have the purchasing power to step in—unless wealth starts being more evenly distributed.Even insolvency data suggests a market in transition. While consumer insolvencies fell 2.6% in May, they're still 7.6% higher than pre-pandemic levels. Business insolvencies are down 13.3% year-over-year, indicating stabilization, but we're far from robust economic health. And a deeper divide is growing. The Bank of Canada's latest vulnerability report shows the highest share of delinquent borrowers in a decade—now at 2.6%. People are skipping payments on retail installment loans, credit cards, and car loans before defaulting on their mortgage or HELOC. This reflects rising stress among middle-income Canadians, the group that drives the broader economy—and that stress is slowing GDP and pushing unemployment higher.Meanwhile, developers are facing their own struggles. But a recent win: the BC government now allows 75% of development fees to be deferred until occupancy, easing the upfront financial burden. In Burnaby, for example, that could mean deferring up to $375,000 on a sixplex—money that can be used to fund construction instead. This episode breaks it all down: the financial landscape, the market psychology, the policy shifts, and what it all means for buyers, sellers, renters, and developers. Whether you're navigating the market today or preparing for what's next—this is a must-watch.Subscribe for more Vancouver real estate insights, and don't forget to check the links in the description for how to connect with us directly! _________________________________ Contact Us To Book Your Private Consultation:
