This week, Jason is joined by luxury real estate expert and Selling Sunset star, Mary Bonnet! As one of the faces of the Netflix show, she is a VP, a senior agent at the Oppenheim Group with over 15 years of real estate experience. Mary has built a powerful career at the intersection of television and personal branding. Beyond the stunning properties and glamorous show, Mary's story is about independence, strength, business growth, and credibility, how she used a massive global platform to amplify her professional brand, attract high-end clients, and expand her influence in an ultra competitive industry.  Mary breaks down her take on Season 9 and how editing shapes the reality viewers think they're seeing. She opens up about making it clear to production that she refused to be blindsided, and why being financially smart has been a priority throughout her career. Mary also shares the importance of presenting yourself well in the luxury real estate market, the real behind-the-scenes of what the job actually looks like, and the terrifying experience of being robbed during the wildfires—losing $250K in jewelry and only receiving $1,500 back. She dives into the migration out of LA and how that shift is reshaping her business, what she sold in her first year, her perspective on prenups, and how going into business with an ex impacted her credit. Mary reflects on what she'd do differently, how she defines luxury real estate, and the extensive due diligence required to verify buyer funds. Plus, she shares the story behind her biggest real estate deal, the first time she ever yelled at a client, and her best advice for buyers entering today's market. Mary reveals all this and so much more in another episode you can't afford to miss! In June of 1877, 800 people were faced with an impossible choice - leave their home or be forcibly removed from it. What resulted was a 126 day 1,500 mile journey across four states by a band of Nez Perce who were attempting to escape forced relocation. They were relentlessly and violently pursued by the U.S. Army, eluding and fighting them for months through mountain ranges and within Yellowstone National Park before ultimately being forced into a corner just 40 miles from Canada - and freedom. The award-winning author who used her strict Mennonite upbringing to tell its unspoken stories.Miriam Toews is one of Canada's most acclaimed novelists, but her journey began far from the literary world. Raised in the conservative Mennonite town of Steinbach, Manitoba, she grew up surrounded by deep faith, strict expectations, and a culture where silence often covered over difficult truths. The town didn't even have a train station to keep it separate from the 'worldy' practices of contemporary society. At home, her devout father Mel's lifelong battle with mental illness and her mother Elvira's rebellious streak created a world of tenderness and tension — one Miriam would later transform into funny and powerful fiction.Miriam reflects on how she became a writer: the restless imagination that sparked during childhood, her early escape from the confines of her community, and the personal losses that shaped novels such as A Complicated Kindness, All My Puny Sorrows, and Women Talking. With success also came the cost of telling stories about identity, family, mental health and faith — stories her community never dare speak aloud. This programme contains references to suicide. In this text from Paul Gerhardt, each Christian encourages himself to rejoice and maintain a cheerful trust in God for all things. He is our portion and treasure so that despair need not overwhelm us. As He has cared for us our whole lives long, so He will continue to care for us. His discipline comes from His love for us, the same love that has forgiven our sins in Christ. Therefore, we trust His guiding love to lead us home to Him.  Rev. Charles St-Onge, missionary pastor at Ascension Lutheran Church in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, through the Office of National Mission for The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study LSB 737, “Rejoice, My Heart, Be Glad and Sing.”  “Songs and Thankfulness and Praise” is a mini-series on Sharper Iron that studies a variety of hymns of thanksgiving from Lutheran Service Book. Thanksgiving is a way of life for Christians as we realize that all gifts come from God's fatherly love for us. In times of joy and sorrow, we return our thanks to Him for His never-ending goodness and mercy.   Sharper Iron, hosted by Rev. Timothy Appel, looks at the text of Holy Scripture both in its broad context and its narrow detail, all for the sake of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen for sinners. Two pastors engage with God's Word to sharpen not only their own faith and knowledge, but the faith and knowledge of all who listen. Submit comments or questions to: listener@kfuo.org

In this episode of Canada Is Boring, we dive beak-first into one of the strangest and most important inventions in Canadian aviation history: the Chicken Cannon. As bird strikes continue to threaten aircraft worldwide, with over 50 bird strikes happening every day and more than 13,000 reported annually in the U.S. alone, engineers needed a way to test aircraft safety against high-speed avian impacts. The result? A gas-powered “flight impact simulator” capable of firing thawed chickens at aircraft parts at supersonic speeds.Developed in the 1960s after two deadly U.S. crashes caused by flocks of starlings and whistling swans, Canada's chicken cannon became a critical tool in aviation safety. Built in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia and operated at Ottawa's Macdonald-Cartier Airport, this monster of a machine launched 1–8 pound birds at aircraft windshields, engines, and stabilizers to replicate real-world bird strikes. At its peak, the cannon could fire a chicken at Mach 1.36, making it, unofficially, the fastest chicken ever recorded. We explore the odd science behind impact testing, the physics of bird strikes, and the messy origin of the word “snarge.” From frozen chickens in metal sabots to high-speed film, atomic pacemaker tests, and a parking-lot incident that left VIP guests covered in poultry debris, this is one of the wildest pieces of Canadian engineering ever built. All our links:https://bio.to/canboringThis podcast is hosted two idiots and created purely for entertainment purposes. Let's kick this week off with a little back story. I've known Kyle and Ian for close to 30 years and we grew up together building tree forts, playing paintball and getting into trouble together. We all three at one point or another left home to join the military and we just recently got a chance to sit down to share some hunting stories and talk about Kyle's recent fishing trip in Canada. This week was more catching up and sharing fun stories than anything else and I really hope you guys enjoy it. In May, a B.C. billionaire named Weihong (Ruby) Liu made a $69.1-million deal to acquire 28 leases of former Hudson's Bay stores. Her company, Central Walk, owned malls where three of those stores were located, so those leases went unopposed; however, landlords of the other 25 stores were skeptical of her ability to operate her proposed stores. She had cash, real estate experience, and a vision — but no experience running a major retailer.Susan Krashinsky Robertson is the Globe's retailing reporter. She's been covering the fallout from the demise of Canada's oldest retailer. Today, she's on the show to talk about what she learned about Ruby Liu over the course of the hearings, and why her bid to take over 25 more stores ultimately failed.Questions? Comments? Ideas? Host Maria Kestane speaks to David Shipley, CEO and co-founder of Beauceron Security to discuss the reality of Canada's ability to defend itself against National security threats, and whether or not these outages are as bad as they seem. Joseph and Alper dive into one of the most unsettling sexual assault decisions to come out of the Supreme Court of Canada in years: **R. v. Rioux, 2025 SCC 34**, released the very day they hit record. Still hot off the printer, the judgment sends Joseph's blood pressure through the roof as he and Alper give their **raw, first reaction** to a 5–4 split decision that effectively rewrites how courts treat **consent, capacity, blackouts, and memory loss** in sexual assault trials. They walk through the core facts, then zero in on the majority's treatment of **blackout and memory loss as circumstantial evidence of incapacity**, and the idea that a complainant's *beliefs and assumptions* about how they “would have acted” can stand in for an actual memory of events. Along the way, they unpack the difference between **actus reus and mens rea**, explain why the distinction between **direct and circumstantial evidence** is being stretched to absurdity, and highlight how this reasoning risks turning ordinary adult sexual behaviour especially where alcohol is involved into a legal minefield. From Vegas blackout marriages to the realities of human behaviour after a few drinks, Joseph and Alper argue this ruling is **“ripe for abuse”** and dangerously divorced from common sense. With plenty of dark humour, legal nuance, and a few F-bombs, they lay the groundwork for a much deeper doctrinal analysis in Part Two of this “Consent Trilogy.” If you care about due process, evidentiary standards, and the future of sexual assault law in Canada, this is a must-listen. It's been almost exactly a year since we had Brien Foerster on the show, and we welcome him back to talk about his research in Egypt, attempts to date Puma Punku, and updates on his work on Elongated Skulls. Brien was born in Rochester, Minnesota, U.S.A. but grew up on the west coast of Canada. At age 11, he became fascinated with the Native art of the Haida native people, and began carving totem poles, and other related art forms, learning from Native teachers. After completing an Honours Bachelor Of Science degree, Brien decided to take up carving and sculpture full time, at the age of 25. In 1995 he moved to Maui, Hawaii, and was hired as assistant project manager for the building of the 62 foot double hull sailing canoe ( ancestor of the modern day catamaran ) Mo'okiha O Pi'ilani ( Sacred Lizard That Pierces The Heavens ) and the restoration of the famous Mo'olele sailing canoe. This project lasted 2 years. There, having learned how to make Hawaiian outrigger canoe paddles from master carver Keola Sequiera, he started an online outrigger paddle business, which flourished internationally. Peru became his next major area of interest. The study of the Inca culture led to his writing a book, A Brief History Of The Incas which is available on this site, and is now the assistant director of the Paracas History Museum in Paracas, south of Lima. He is also assisting the municipality of Paracas to improve the number of foreign tourists that visit, as well as is fundamental in expanding tourism in general, especially as regards showing all visitors the 10,000 years of human occupation of this area, through tours of major and minor archaeological sites. Other projects, which will result in published books, include one about the ancient history of Hawaii, the mysterious stone monuments of Peru that predate the Inca, and the search for the lost continent of Mu. This will require combining all that he has learned so far, with trips to New Zealand (Aotearoa), Hawaii, and Easter island (Rapanui.) He is the author of 8 books, appearances on Ancient Aliens, numerous radio interviews, and resides in Peru with his wife. Brien's webpage: www.hiddenincatours.com Hosted on Acast. This aspect of the phenomenon became firmly cemented with Gray Barker's 1956 book, They Knew Too Much About Flying Saucers, and it plays a big part in John Keel's 1975 book, The Mothman Prophecies. Keel was of the mind that MiBs were not human beings from secret government organizations out to silence witnesses, but creatures of a much stranger origin. Supporting this is a 1981 report (page 8 of the pdf) out of Canada that is presented in the Vol. 27, No. 4, January 1982 Flying Saucer Review. Read more →

Things are more or less back to normal around here, as we prepare for the onset of Winter in Canada. This week I do put some emphasis on what the heck we're going to do about next years membership drive. I'm really looking for your feedback on what you'd like to receive in return for donations. I'm looking at Enamel pins (much like the Sanctuary pins that are on my "battle jacket"). Sadly the patches we did prior to the pandemic are insanely expensive now. If you have one, it's a collectiors item! THis wek we also expanded to 9 songs instead of the usual 8. In the new world of more singles than full length albums, we'll have to adapt and try to keep the quantity as high as the quality. :) XPQ-21 - Dance With The Devil Elektrostaub - Too Far From The Pack (Salva Maine) Aesthetic Perfection - We Bring The Beat Absurd Minds - Fractured (Autodafeh) Data Kino - Rock It Again Komission Z80 - Choose (Ruined Conflict) Destroy Me Again - The Shards Extize - Cyberghost Audiocall - Retailers! Jack Welch's binder hit the floor before Michael Bourque had time to react. At just 23, he sat in a Honeywell acquisition review meeting as the “keeper of the numbers,” rifling through a binder he knew didn't contain the EPS detail Welch demanded. When the answer didn't come, Welch “swept his binder off the table, threw it across the room, and got up and left,” Bourque tells us. The moment stayed with him—not only the need to anticipate every question, but the feeling of “how I was treated,” a lesson he carried forward. That early scene captures the intensity of Bourque's 15 years at GE, where he rotated every four months on the corporate audit staff, learned to understand a business model quickly, and moved across countries from Mexico to Italy to Canada. He tells us those experiences became “a massive accelerator” but also showed him what he did not want: senior lives “lived 90 days at a time.”Leaving GE led him into Ocwen, where regulatory pressure mounted immediately. Advisers warned him to “run for the hills,” yet he stayed, tracking cash daily and absorbing public blows from the New York DFS. The experience, he tells us, taught him “how to navigate a crisis and try to keep your cool.”At LendingHome (later Kiavi), he applied that calm to redesign the business around two customer cohorts—first-timers and professionals doing “eight or more” flips a year—and anchored decisions in unit economics. That discipline would shape his leadership at Convera, where he now steers a global payments network and pushes teams to adopt AI tools that “help them… get clarity on that next operational step.”

This Friday, for our 75th episode, I thought we'd gather some folks together to talk ABOUT the medium. Especially because right now Artificial Intelligence is on so many people's minds - and it promises to impact audio storytelling like it's impacting so many other things.  We brought together eight very opinionated folks, plus one AI chatbot, so that you can "Meet The Creators." It's a panel discussion with some of best, longest-running modern radio-drama creators in North America -- one to get you thinking, starting from a wide-ranging and subtle discussion on what we should even call the medium. We also consider why we even find value in creating new audio fiction in the 21st century. What's the point in revisiting and continuing this old storytelling art form?  The 45-minute discussion was at different times lively, nostalgic, angry, funny, feisty, thoughtful, enthusiastic, even emotional. Our panelists ranged from coast to coast and both America and Canada. As Artificial Intelligence seems to be replacing human efforts in so many different aspects of life, how should we define the roles of both people and AI in creating twenty-first century audio-based stories. Not a fictional story this month -- but the story of why we make audio drama is well worth hearing... Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
