In this episode, Neil shares his insights on maximising profitability and guest experience during the Slam Dunk Music Festival weekend in Hatfield, UK. He reveals how he creates a vibrant atmosphere for festival-goers by hosting surprise barbecues and facilitating social interactions among guests. Neil also emphasises the importance of understanding the law of supply and demand, particularly during high-demand events, and offers practical tips for increasing room rates and enhancing guest experiences. KEY TAKEAWAYS Recognising local events, like the Slam Dunk Music Festival, can significantly increase demand for accommodations, allowing hosts to raise their prices accordingly. By anticipating guests' needs and creating a welcoming environment (such as a surprise barbecue), hosts can enhance the guest experience, leading to positive interactions and repeat bookings. Setting up spaces that promote conversation, like a fire pit with seating arranged to face each other, can help guests bond and create a fun atmosphere, making their stay more enjoyable. Satisfied guests are likely to return, especially if they have formed friendships during their stay. This can lead to a loyal customer base that looks forward to returning each year. Costs associated with enhancing the guest experience, such as food and drinks provided during special events, can be considered business expenses and are tax-deductible, making it financially viable for hosts to invest in guest experiences. BEST MOMENTS "My goal was to engineer that to happen. And the way I decided to do it was to prepare a surprise barbecue for them on their return to the house." "There's something hypnotic about looking into the flames of a log fire. I mean, it's human nature." "Guess what happened the following year? The moment the dates for the festival were announced, half my rooms were booked overnight by a few core guests who had come the year before." "Find out when any event being held in your area is going to create demand on accommodation and increase the prices of your rooms for the duration of that event." "When the festival music was done, I surprised them with more late-night fun. With drinks and good cheer, they booked for next year." Join Doug as he interviews Christopher Long, an entrepreneur who used a personal challenge to create an international powerhouse for secure, large-scale storage solutions. Chris shares his story of grit and vision, from carpenter to multimillionaire, revealing how he built Longyards Storage. He gives his old school advice on hard work, goal setting and persistence, explaining how he found financial freedom and is now expanding his business model across the US through strategic partnerships. KEY TAKEAWAYS Longyards solves a market gap by providing month-to-month rental of fenced outdoor storage spaces for contractors, landscapers and businesses who need flexible storage without long-term leases. Chris started with handwritten goals beside his mirror, focusing first on paying off debt, then building credit and buying property, eventually evolving to using the Entrepreneur Operating System (EOS) to manage company wide objectives. The industrial outside storage market is gaining institutional recognition, with major investors like JP Morgan entering the space, creating significant growth opportunities. Chris attributes his success to his background and his grandfather's influence, emphasising relentless hard work, knocking on doors and solving problems through persistence rather than shortcuts. After losing everything in his contracting business, Chris rebuilt and became financially free within three years by applying the lessons he'd learned and working smarter with fewer employees. Longyards is expanding through partnerships with high income earners who have business or real estate experience, where Longyards provides expertise while partners bring local knowledge and financing capabilities. Chris measures success not just by growth but by brand recognition, his goal is to make Longyards the household name people think of when they need to rent outdoor storage space. For effective goal setting, Chris recommends focusing on getting 1% better daily rather than attempting dramatic changes, breaking big goals into small achievable steps that accumulate over time. BEST MOMENTS "My goal was to become financially free and I used storage yards to achieve that... basically it's a cash cow. It brings in over 40k a month. And that allowed just to basically change my life.” "The easier that you push, the more you push that easy button later on, the harder life gets and I was pushing that hard button at the beginning and now my life is getting easier." "Even though I had hard conversations and hard things to do, I had those hard conversations with people when I wasn't getting paid... I paid everybody. I kept my word. I did good by everybody around me, and I was transparent." "Don't try to get the gold, get a bunch of pieces of silver and get better at collecting a bunch of pieces of silver, and then it turns into gold." "As the company evolves and my skillset evolves as a CEO and a founder with a big mission, these set of goals have evolved to what's called EOS. And I'm not sure if you've heard of EOS. Maybe it's more of a western culture term, but it's what's referred to as the entrepreneur operating system." Rob speaks to ‘trillion dollar man’ Dan Pena. Dan talks about one of his first brutal life lessons, why hardship creates a catalyst for success and why mentorship has helped him throughout his life and career. He also shares why he doesn’t worry about inflation and the importance of being financially liquid. KEY TAKEAWAYS Dan was called a ‘dunce’ and branded as an idiot most of his school life. But he then discovered that he was not stupid at all, he was extremely talented in other ways. Dan was voted most likely to not succeed in school yet he has been the most successful of his classmates for the past 60 years! When donating to charities always look at financials, some charities aren’t transparent because most of the money isn’t going to the people the charity is supposed to be helping. High performance people do not worry about inflation because they just make more money. BEST MOMENTS "My mentors that I have had over my life I have sought out” “I was voted most likely not to succeed and I was voted class clown” “Anybody who worries about inflation is either fucking poor or listens to the fake news too much” VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter https://robmoore.com/podbooks rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. In this episode, we chat with Brooke Bibeault, CEO of Makor Resources, an African junior miner exploring developing the next generation of world leading mines across the artisanal and small-scale sector. They enable Artisanal and Small-Scale businesses in the raw materials value chain - from "Mine to Main Street", Production to Retail - to manage risks, build resilient sourcing strategies, capture value, and invest for social impact to address some of today’s most pressing concerns. Brooke has a diverse background in leadership development and business strategy and became the CEO of Makor Resources in 2019 when she moved to Africa. She gives us the background to the company, its mission in helping artesian miners develop locally and ethically sourced materials, her new A1 platform Sensr 360, her new podcast Mine to Main Street, and more. KEY TAKEAWAYS Makor Resources aims to transform ASM into a legitimate and investable sector, recognising its significant contribution to global mineral production and the economic potential it holds for local communities. The introduction of Sensor360, an AI-driven platform, allows for real-time monitoring and verification of ESG compliance, helping to identify discrepancies and mitigate risks associated with mining operations. Makor Resources emphasises the importance of engaging local communities in the mining process, ensuring that they benefit from the resources extracted and that their needs and priorities are considered in decision-making. The approach to mining should prioritise long-term stability and community development over short-term profits, focusing on building sustainable ecosystems that outlast the life of the mine. There is a need to shift the perception of mining from being a "dirty" industry to one that plays a crucial role in global economic resilience, innovation, and sustainable development, highlighting the positive impacts and stories from the sector. BEST MOMENTS "My career really has always been about solving high stake problems at the intersection of power, and looking at economics and global impact." "Artisanal and small-scale mining represents one of the largest untapped economic potentials in the global resource sector." "Mining depends on communities, and it's not about charity; it's about strategic alignment." "I think the biggest failures of traditional mining is that too much value gets extracted and too little gets reinvested into the communities." In today’s episode, Neil considers the concept of the reticular activating system (RAS) and its impact on our focus and perception as Airbnb hosts. He shares his personal journey of improvement and innovation in his hosting practices, sparked by a recent renovation of his hot tub lid. Neil discusses how this renewed focus led him to make significant upgrades to his property, enhancing guest comfort and satisfaction. He emphasises the importance of being deliberate about what we focus on, as our mindset shapes our experiences and interactions with guests. KEY TAKEAWAYS The reticular activating system (RAS) is a part of the brain that filters incoming sensory information, helping individuals focus on what is important and ignore distractions. This system can influence perceptions and experiences based on what one chooses to pay attention to. Taking the initiative to improve aspects of your hosting environment can lead to enhanced guest experiences. Small changes, like upgrading furniture or organizing spaces, can significantly impact guest satisfaction and your hosting success. The way you perceive your guests and hosting experience can shape your reality. Approaching each guest as a friend rather than an inconvenience can foster a more positive hosting environment and lead to better reviews. Addressing ongoing issues or "niggles" in your property can lead to greater efficiency and satisfaction. Taking action to resolve these small annoyances can improve both your experience as a host and the experience of your guests. Being intentional about what you focus on can shape your outcomes. By consciously directing your attention towards positive aspects and improvements, you can create a more successful and fulfilling hosting experience. BEST MOMENTS "My mission is to help you to follow your own dreams through successful hosting with Airbnb." "Our RAS is like a filter that helps our brain decide what to notice and what to ignore." "What we focus on is what we experience." "Be deliberate about what you focus on, as that's what you will get." "Each thought and each word build what you deserve and creates what you actually get." In this episode, Neil shares valuable insights on handling difficult conversations with guests, drawing from his extensive experience as a successful Airbnb host. With over 2,000 guests from more than 40 countries, Neil emphasises the importance of building rapport, setting clear boundaries, and maintaining a positive attitude. He discusses five key techniques to navigate challenging interactions, including asking for help, not sweating the small stuff, accepting guests as they are, removing emotion from conversations, and peeling back the layers to uncover underlying issues. KEY TAKEAWAYS Establishing comfort and trust with guests from the outset makes difficult conversations easier. Rapport is essential for positive interactions and can help mitigate potential conflicts. Clearly communicate house rules and expectations to guests upon their arrival. This proactive approach helps prevent misunderstandings and sets the tone for respectful behaviour. When addressing issues, frame requests as seeking assistance rather than making demands. This collaborative approach encourages guests to be more receptive and cooperative. Address issues directly and calmly, without letting emotions cloud the conversation. Being straightforward about expectations, such as additional fees, can lead to smoother interactions. When conflicts arise, take the time to listen and understand the underlying issues. By asking open-ended questions, you can uncover the root cause of a problem and foster a more constructive dialogue. BEST MOMENTS "My mission is to help you reach the same levels of success and beyond with Airbnb and follow your own dreams." "When you have rapport with someone, you get on really well with them. When you get on really well with them, difficult conversations don't seem to raise their ugly heads." "I always deliberately aim to build rapport with my guests as fast as possible." "Investigation is far more powerful than accusation." "It's not what you say, it's how you say it." Nick welcomes business growth coach Dawn McGruer to discuss the often-overlooked topic of strategy in business. Nick highlights the importance of understanding strategy through the lens of individual psychology and behaviour. Dawn shares her extensive background in marketing and coaching, emphasising the significance of designing a business model that aligns with personal values and lifestyle. The conversation delves into the psychology behind consumer behaviour, the importance of clarity in business goals, and the necessity of building strong relationships in a competitive landscape. KEY TAKEAWAYS Establishing clarity around what you want from your business and life is crucial. This foundational piece helps ensure that the business model aligns with personal values and goals, preventing the creation of a "Franken business" that one might later want to tear down. It's essential to design your offerings based on the real problems your target clients face, rather than simply replicating what others are doing. This approach leads to creating unique and remarkable solutions that resonate with potential clients. A sustainable and scalable business model should be simple and focused. Knowing your numbers and understanding what it takes to deliver your services effectively can lead to better client relationships and overall business success. Building strong relationships is fundamental in business. Understanding the psychology of clients and fostering genuine connections can lead to better outcomes and a more enjoyable business experience. BEST MOMENTS "My whole mission for next year is to really kind of carve out a space where I'm not just the whole word of coach... I want to define my message more in terms of mentoring and strategy." "I would rather cut a cost than sell my soul. If I had to cut something else out, not to take that client, I would rather do that." "When you get the business model right, every industry can be very lucrative and it can be very easy. It doesn't have to be difficult." "I think the thing is, is if your messaging is right, you can be brand new onto the market and have command authority in anything that you do." In this episode, Neil shares valuable insights on building a "power team" to support your Airbnb business. Drawing from his nine years of experience, Neil emphasizes the importance of having a reliable network of tradespeople, including electricians, plumbers, handymen, and more, to ensure smooth operations and quick resolutions to any issues that arise. Neil discusses his personal experiences with various team members, highlighting the significance of word-of-mouth recommendations and local networking. KEY TAKEAWAYS Create a support network of reliable tradespeople and service providers to ensure your Airbnb business runs smoothly, especially during emergencies or repairs. Finding trustworthy team members often comes from personal recommendations. Ask friends, neighbours, and other tradespeople for referrals to build your power team. Focus on high-value tasks by delegating lower-value jobs, such as cleaning and laundry, to others. This allows you to concentrate on activities that generate more income. Pay your power team promptly after services are rendered. Quick payment fosters good relationships and encourages them to prioritize your requests in emergencies. Schedule regular maintenance for your property to prevent issues before they arise. This proactive approach can save time and money in the long run. BEST MOMENTS "My mission is to help you to reach the same levels of success and beyond with Airbnb and follow your own dreams." "It's all about building a list of reliable people who can help you out." "Pay someone else to do the £10 an hour jobs to free up your time to do the £100 an hour jobs." "If your power team person has done a good job, pay them as soon as is practical after they present their invoice." "I just hand them over on a plate. My neighbour makes a bit of money." On this episode of the Lead With Purpose podcast host, Tze Ching Yeung talks to Doug Betts, an HR expert, about how founders can build more effective teams and the lessons that he has learned while growing his business. KEY TAKEAWAYS There's a lot of things that happen on a daily basis in the corporate world that, when the pandemic happened, just didn't make sense any more. I wanted to think about doing things in a different way and being a bit more of a positive disruptor in how I worked. For example, it seems pointless going to an office 5 days a week. If you allow a bit of flexibility you'll benefit a lot of people's lives. I'm working with some contractors on my business, so I don't have employees. But I do have external support, where I need it, from experts who can do lower-level tasks that I can't do myself or don't enjoy doing. A lot of founders hit a sense of overwhelm, no matter how good you are, it can be a little bit too much and you're not quite sure which thing to do first. Or it can be feast or famine where work can be so manic that you don't concentrate on things like marketing and finding new business. Be on top of your numbers, because then you know when you can start to outsource tasks. You need to find people whop align to you business and have similar values to you, and not just about how you work. Ask some behavioural questions when you interview them not just competency-based questions, seeing how they react and what their behaviours are like will let you know if you can trust them or not. Don't manage them but give them regular ongoing feedback. BEST MOMENTS ‘My motivation for getting out of bed in the morning and doing this is that I like helping people and solve problems.' ‘Lockdown gave me a good opportunity to reassess and think about what I was going to do next and think about my skillset in a different way.' ‘As a founder, the business is you and ultimately you're accountable for everything, so make sure you have a clear vision, mission, and goals for your business and communicate those to your team.' ‘You've got to show up every day in your business, even if you're not physically there. Your team will look up to you as the motivator and inspirer.' ABOUT THE GUEST Doug Betts is a visionary HR leader with over 20 years of experience across various sectors, but with a particular interest in Charities/not for profits. Website ABOUT THE HOST Tze Ching started her entrepreneurial journey back in 2007 with the launch of a sustainable clothing & home furnishing ecommerce business. Next, she created a sustainable fashion brand. In 2019, she launched a social enterprise to help raise awareness about the negative impact of fashion at schools & colleges. Through the 15-year journey, she learned so much, but easily the most meaningful lesson learned was about the importance of marketing. She now focuses on channelling those insights to help others succeed through We Disrupt Agency, a business coaching, mentoring & digital marketing company. Tze Ching's mission is to create a community of global change makers and to contribute to positive change in both people & planet. CONTACT DETAILS Website Facebook Instagram Twitter LinkedIn
Technology meets art as Ceri is joined by Mexican-Canadian media artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, whose works are in collections worldwide such as MoMA, Guggenheim, TATE, Reina Sofía, and Hirshhorn. He shares his journey from nightclub owner's son to internationally acclaimed artist and how it shaped his unique approach to creating participatory experiences. From transforming the US-Mexico border to making climate change audible through 481 speakers, Rafael gives his thoughts about managing ADHD, building a successful studio, and the delicate balance of working with major brands while maintaining artistic integrity. KEY TAKEAWAYS Early exposure to nightclub culture and theatrical environments influenced Rafael's approach to creating participatory art installations that come alive only when people engage with them. The democratisation of technology has transformed media art from being institution dependent to being more accessible, leading to an explosion of digital creation worldwide. Managing ADHD has been both a challenge and an asset for Rafael; he credits his condition for helping him work under pressure and maintain the necessary denial to tackle seemingly impossible projects. The artist's studio operates like a theatrical production, with Rafael as director rather than a solitary creator, involving specialists from 10 different countries. Environmental consciousness has become central to his practice, including scientific collaboration to minimise the impact on migratory birds and transition to more sustainable technologies. Rafael uses three key filters for project selection: intellectual/philosophical interest, time investment required, and economics, maintaining about 20% of work as non-profit. The relationship between art and corporate sponsorship requires careful navigation to maintain artistic legitimacy while ensuring financial sustainability. Art institutions face a tension between meaningful engagement with digital art and the temptation to use technology merely for spectacle and attendance numbers. BEST MOMENTS "My talent is more in getting teams together. And there is a name for this, it's like a theatrical director... there's still a vision, it's the director's vision, that is followed." "Ultimately what I'm interested in art is in creating a good party, it is only when people come in that the party really begins, it really is dependent on participation." "I got off of Ritalin so that I could continue a life of denial because it's the only way to lie to yourself that these things can actually be accomplished." "I am not interested in growth. I want de-growth...I don't want to become a massive company, but what I do want is not to grow in personnel or space. I want to grow in time." "The genius artist who did something and then out of this one idea created a career doesn't exist. It's the perseverance." "You'll never be satisfied. You'll always think that the next artwork is better than anything you've done in the past." For this episode, David is joined by Bob King, a sales expert, filmmaker and author. His book, The Joy of Closing, is the definitive guide to building trust, getting the deal and creating happy customers. The way Bob approaches sales and closes deals is substantially different. But, when he explains his innovative approach you will immediately see the wisdom and be inspired to start to change the way you grow sales in your business. To explore how to get unstuck on your mission, put your purpose into practice and convert your ideas into impact book a discovery call with David here https://calendly.com/david-peoplewithpurpose/30min KEY TAKEAWAYS Sales is about helping the potential customer to make a decision. If you have a high decision rate, your closing rate will also be high. Believe in your product and understand how it benefits the customer. Getting someone to commit to anything is hard, including committing to buy from you. Being a great presenter does not seal deals. “greed tricks” are counterproductive. Pay each customer a sincere compliment. Bob explains how to learn this skill. Use Bob´s 3 reason framework, which he explains during the episode, to provide compelling reasons for them to buy. Use your company story. Bob explains how. If you want to inspire commitment, you have to be committed. BEST MOMENTS “My goal … is to give them the information they need to make an informed decision, then do everything I can to prompt an impulse buy.” “A really great closer is part lawyer and part six-year-old.” “I advocate price conditioning throughout the pitch.” EPISODE RESOURCES https://www.amazon.co.uk/Joy-Closing-Definitive-Building-Customers-ebook/dp/B0CKL4WYZQ https://www.joyofclosing.com https://www.tiktok.com/@joyfulcloser https://www.linkedin.com/in/bob-king-7a37951 ABOUT THE SHOW People with purpose make a difference. In this episode, Neil Harvey explores the pros and cons of allowing pets in your Airbnb property. With a significant portion of the population being pet owners, Neil discusses how welcoming furry friends can attract new guests and enhance their holiday experience. He outlines seven benefits, such as increased bookings and reduced stress for pet owners, while also addressing potential downsides, including property damage and liability concerns. Neil emphasizes the importance of setting clear pet rules and offers practical tips for hosts considering this option. KEY TAKEAWAYS Allowing pets can attract a new set of guests, reduce their travel costs, and enhance their overall experience, leading to positive reviews and repeat bookings. Hosting pets can lead to property damage, additional cleaning responsibilities, and potential liability issues. It's essential to consider these factors before deciding to allow pets. Establish specific guidelines regarding the types of pets allowed, their size, the number of pets, and whether they can be left unattended. Clear rules help ensure the safety of both the property and the guests. Before fully committing to a pet-friendly policy, conduct a trial run by inviting a friend with a pet to stay. This allows you to assess how well your property accommodates pets and gather feedback for future bookings. If you decide to allow pets, make sure to update your Airbnb profile with pet-friendly keywords and clearly state your pet rules. Highlight any pet-related amenities in your listing to attract potential guests. BEST MOMENTS "My mission is to help you create the same levels of success with Airbnb and beyond and follow your own dreams." "Allowing pets means additional cleaning tasks like removing fur, deep cleaning carpets and sanitizing pet-related areas." "If you're the only dog-friendly accommodation in the area, guess where your guests rebook should they return? You!" "Deciding to allow pets into your accommodation will come with its own set of challenges and responsibilities." "Before you decide whether or not to allow pets into your listings, do at least one trial run." In this episode, Natalie interviews Stuart Robinson, the Director of St Anne's Beach Huts Apartments in the charming Victorian seaside town of Lytham St Anne's. Stuart shares his inspiring journey from a corporate telesales job to transforming the traditional beach hut experience into a modern, family-friendly getaway. Stuart discusses the challenges he faced in reintroducing beach huts to the area, including navigating council regulations and overcoming initial skepticism. With a focus on community and sustainability, Stuart highlights the unique appeal of the beach huts, which have become a beloved destination for families and even celebrities. KEY TAKEAWAY Stuart's love for beach huts stems from his commitment to family and community, emphasising the importance of creating memorable experiences for visitors at St Anne's Beach Huts. The journey to establish the beach huts involved navigating numerous obstacles, including council regulations, environmental assessments, and financial hurdles. The beach huts operate on a rental model, allowing visitors to book them for the day, which fosters a unique experience for families and groups. Residents play a crucial role in the success of the beach huts by helping to monitor and protect them, fostering a sense of community ownership and pride in the beach hut project. Utilising social media effectively helped raise awareness and attract visitors to the beach huts, demonstrating the significance of modern marketing strategies in building a successful business. BEST MOMENTS "My wife and I were walking on the promenade one day... we thought, you know what, this could really work if we can manage to pull it off." "It sounds like persistence and consistency are the things to keep you driving at." "We approached the council with the idea... but it wasn't as easy as that. We spent an awful lot of time and an awful lot of money." "There's nothing better than proving someone wrong. In fact, it's probably the worst thing you can do for me, is tell me I can't do something." "It's a service industry, isn't it? And it's invariably with people who are delighted, you know, they're happy, they're enjoying themselves." HOST BIO My name is Natalie Young. I bought a beach hut to bring joy into my life after escaping an abusive relationship and a difficult divorce. Based in Christchurch, Dorset, my beach hut is affectionally called the Salty Seagull and is located on Friars Cliff beach with sea views to the Needles on the Isle of White. Ceri Hand interviews painter Eleanor Moreton, exploring her artistic journey from childhood to her current practice. Eleanor's rebel spirit, unique approach to creativity, and commitment to her craft shine through as she discusses her influences, challenges, and success. From navigating art school to finding her stride in painting, Eleanor's story is both inspiring and realistic, offering valuable lessons for artists at any stage of their career. KEY TAKEAWAYS Eleanor's upbringing in a suburban environment significantly influenced her artistic themes, particularly her interest in family life and the 1950s-60s era. Eleanor compares her artistic process to "herding a swarm of bees," juggling various ideas and influences until they coalesce into a cohesive work. Embracing beauty in her paintings was a decades-long process for Eleanor, overcoming the art school taboo against creating beautiful work. Collaboration with poet John Hegley provides Eleanor with a different creative outlet, balancing her solitary studio practice with performance and music. The year 2007-2008 marked a significant turning point in Eleanor's career, with multiple achievements affirming her place in the art world. Don't underestimate the importance of artists identifying their ideal audience and platform for showcasing their work. Eleanor stresses the value of showing up consistently to work, even during challenging periods or creative droughts! Artists need to view themselves as custodians of their work, responsible for sharing it with the world rather than focusing on personal ego. BEST MOMENTS "My mind is always alert to new things that will come in and there's some kind of detector that will, you know, detect something, even when I don't know why or where it fits with other things." "There isn't one art world, there are many. And I think it's in a quite practical sense to say, where would I like to show, who would I like to show my work to?" "Freedom is incredibly important to me, particularly mental freedom and I get quite irritated when gallerists or people who visit the studio sort of frown and say that something doesn't connect to something else." "It's not called a practice for nothing. You know, you do it over and over” "I love Eleanor's rebel spirit and her willingness to embrace discomfort, pushing both her practice and life." Through anecdotes from his life, including multiple marriages and experiences with personal growth, Dr. Gary emphasizes the significance of being one's own beloved and finding fulfilment from within. BEST MOMENTS "My improvisational skills as the jester switched and transformed to helping people who are stuck, whether they're stuck in personal relationships, stuck in a job, stuck in a box, to come out of the box and to free them to be fully expressive through my improvisational skills." "My mom and dad wanted to protect me from having an insecure career. They wanted me to have an intellectually professional career where I'd run a company or anything, be a doctor or lawyer, whatever. And then when I came out as a court jester, they basically said, we sent you to the best camps, the best schools, what did we do wrong?" "This is the kind of teacher I want to work with. Someone who is willing to share their pain, not just their joy, not just Moses with the sacred tablets coming down from the mountain saying, this is your commandments." "I'm at a stage that I'm really appreciating being my own best partner, as I never was able to before, because I was always hungry for this muse, that woman, to replace a certain feeling of emptiness inside." In today's episode, Neil shares his own advice and insights on how to ensure guests leave happy and satisfied. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining a positive impression until the very end of the guest's stay, highlighting the impact it can have on reviews, recommendations, returning guests, and potential rewards. Neil provides practical tips on how to bid farewell to guests, and the best ways to leave a lasting positive impression. KEY TAKEAWAYS It is crucial to treat guests with the same level of care and attention during their departure as during their arrival to leave a lasting positive impression. Sending a thank you message or video to departing guests can enhance their experience and show appreciation for their stay. Providing clear instructions for guests upon departure, such as key return and gate access, can prevent confusion and ensure a smooth exit. Positive interactions during guest departures can lead to favorable reviews, recommendations, returning guests, and potential future rewards. Guest departures mark the beginning of a potential ongoing relationship, emphasizing the importance of parting ways on a positive note for future success. BEST MOMENTS "My mission is to help you reach the same levels of success with Airbnb and follow your own dreams." "The last thing we want to do is to trip and fall over a hurdle at the last moment and leave a negative impression with your guests." "I've attended many live seminars over the years and so many times I have witnessed an MC introduce the most amazing person." "Reviews are one of the most used tools when guests assess whether or not they want to book a property." "In a home where the host is all set, a traveler and local first met. With a smile and good cheer, it soon became clear, strangers are friends not made yet." Today, Neil Harvey divulges his secrets to effectively communicating with guests before their arrival. With experience in over 2,000 guests hosted and a quarter of a million pounds in turnover, Neil emphasizes the importance of providing clear instructions for guests to find and access the property hassle-free. He discusses his evolution from sending random messages to creating a systematic approach using standard messages and eventually incorporating a video guide. KEY TAKEAWAYS Consistently communicate with guests after they book but before they arrive to provide clear instructions on how to find and access the property. Create a video guide showing guests how to find the property and gain access, as visual instructions are often more effective than written ones. Ensure important information, such as the video link and essential access details, is placed at the beginning of the message to increase the likelihood of guests reading it. Adapt communication strategies based on guest behavior, such as sending messages earlier for guests traveling from abroad. Utilize creative methods, like limericks or fun rhymes, to reinforce important points and make instructions more memorable for guests. BEST MOMENTS "My mission is to help you on the same journey, which all starts by consistently gaining the golden super host status and the coveted guest favourite badge and all the benefits that come with them." "I have had so many regular Airbnb users say to me, I have never seen anyone do this before. It's so easy to use. Thank you. It's brilliant." "I truly believe actually that instructions in general across the board in whatever field tend to fail to work because we know what we mean when we write them." "Well, had we had a picture of the piece of art he was referring to the alleyway would have been so easy and immediate to identify and we wouldn't have had the frustration of driving past with traffic behind us on a one-way street." "Problems will often arise from instruction that we devise. What we think that we've said's not the same in their head, so send them a video. That's wise." Neil addresses the common struggle many tutors face when it comes to charging for their services. Through a personal anecdote about a friend returning to tutoring after illness, Neil shares the psychological barriers that prevent tutors from valuing their own worth. He emphasises the importance of charging fair prices for the expertise and help provided, highlighting how perceived value influences client commitment and outcomes. KEY TAKEAWAYS Value Your Time and Skills: Your time is valuable, and it is essential to charge for your tutoring services to reflect the value of your skills and expertise. Perceived Value: Charging a fair price for your services creates a perceived value for your students, motivating them to show up and engage fully in the learning process. Get Over Guilt: It is not immoral or dishonest to get paid for doing what you love and are good at. Embrace the idea of being compensated for your expertise and help. Fair Exchange: Offering your knowledge and experience at a fair price to willing buyers is a moral obligation. It is wrong to withhold help from someone who is seeking it. Silent Applause: The money you earn from your tutoring services is a silent applause for a job well done. It signifies appreciation for your support, skills, and dedication to helping others. BEST MOMENTS "My friend is an excellent teacher who loves to teach. She always has been in love with her subject, loves the kids, loves the job. And that's really the crux of the problem." "Making money from doing something you enjoy and that you're really good at is not immoral. It's not dishonest. It's not something to be ashamed of." "Your price is high enough and people will assume that it must be special in some way. If it wasn't special, if it wasn't worth so much, why would they be asking so much for it?" "I think it's truly morally wrong to be able to help someone but decline to do so at fair exchange." "You are worth every penny of your fees, pet. That money is the silent applause for a job well done. It's an appreciation of your help, your support, your skills." Neil emphasizes the importance of understanding the customer journey and how it impacts the success of an Airbnb business. He shares insights on creating a roadmap for guests, starting with the offering, which includes elements such as photos, written descriptions, badges, reviews, and pricing. Neil provides valuable tips on how hosts can optimize their listings to attract and retain guests, ultimately leading to positive reviews and repeat bookings. Through engaging storytelling and practical advice, Neil highlights the significance of building trust and eliminating doubt in the guest-host relationship to ensure a seamless and successful customer journey. KEY TAKEAWAYS The customer journey is the complete experience a customer has while interacting with a business, from initial research to post-stay review on Airbnb. Mapping out the customer journey helps hosts identify opportunities to improve guest experiences and increase the likelihood of bookings and positive reviews. The offering, including photos, descriptions, amenities, badges, reviews, and pricing, plays a crucial role in attracting and retaining guests. High-quality photos and detailed descriptions are essential in showcasing the property and enticing potential guests to book. Removing doubt and ambiguity in the guest experience is crucial for building trust and ensuring guests feel comfortable and satisfied, leading to repeat bookings. BEST MOMENTS "My mission is to help you to gain the golden Superhost status and the coveted Guest Favourite badge and all the benefits that come with them, no matter where you are in your Airbnb journey." "The journey starts long before they actually book, so the roadmap is there for us to be able to lead them to the place where they press buy." "A good roadmap makes them feel comfortable with us. And trust me, if at any time our guest feels uncomfortable with us, they will disappear." "The biggest destroyer of any relationship is when doubt creeps into it. When doubt exists, do you really believe what someone is telling you? Do you trust them? No." "Beware of the little white lie. And if you are wondering why, if you cause any doubt and you then get found out, your business will struggle to fly." Ceri interviews acclaimed author and creativity expert Todd Henry about maintaining creativity and bravery in uncertain times. Todd shares insights from his latest book "The Brave Habit" on how to cultivate daily courage through an optimistic vision, personal agency, and intentional action. Todd offers inspiration to creatives facing disruption from AI, economic instability, and evolving workplace dynamics. His framework of BRAVE - blocking time for self-reflection, focusing on agency, visioning, and expressing intent - provides takeaways for professional and personal growth. KEY TAKEAWAYS Creativity requires nurturing practices and habits to sustain brilliance when solving problems. Todd reinvented his podcast to weave stories and voices into entertaining, binge-worthy episodes. Collaboration multiplied the quality and uniqueness of the new Daily Creative podcast. He emphasises the importance of reducing friction and making it easier for our better selves to prevail. KEY TAKEAWAYS Everyone has an inner moron that tempts them to do things that are not in their best interest. It is important to have a plan for each day to make the most of limited time. Make life easier for your better self by reducing friction and taking actions that support positive behaviours. VALENTINE'S DAY LIVE SHOW TICKETS 15th February 7pm @ The Ministry in collaboration with LUVISS Katie interviews dating coach Claire Grigson on finding success and happiness in modern dating. They discuss Claire's unique style of relationship coaching, common dating problems Claire sees with clients, and how people can set themselves up for dating success in 2024. They also tackle questions from Katie's audience on whether to pay for dating apps, how to choose partners, the dreaded friend zone, and the differences between app dating vs real-life dating. KEY TAKEAWAYS · Define what success in dating looks like for you specifically through self-reflection and journaling on your intentions, values and vision. This helps assess potential partners. · Move conversations to in-person dates quickly when using dating apps, within 2 days ideally, to avoid unrealistic expectations from excessive messaging. · Pay more for a dating coach, events and activities likely to expand your social network versus paying for premium dating app features, which tend to increase overwhelming options. · People often subconsciously choose partners that recreate dynamics with unavailable or inconsistent parents to try and rewrite the story, seeking love that feels familiar. · Accept and respect when someone says they just want to be friends after dating, for the sake of your emotional health, it likely won't change. · In-person singles events allow more accurate vibes assessment and expand your social network, despite potential initial nerves. BEST MOMENTS "My definition of success in dating is to make interesting connections with people that align with me." "Be kind, like, still have a brief interaction with this person...people notice that." "When you can allow yourself to just push out your comfort zone a little bit and do it, you'll probably find that you're like, that was actually all right." ABOUT THE GUEST Claire is a dating & relationship coach, who has supported hundreds of women to feel more empowered, secure & confident in their love lives. From finding joy in being single, navigating dating, and building fulfilling relationships, she empowers women to start with the most important relationship of all - the one with themselves, so they can then go on and attract their person. Danielle was interviewed by Darren Jamieson for his podcast called The Engaging Marketeer. This episode of Build Better Brands revisits that episode where Darren asks Danielle lots of searching questions about her childhood and how she's ended up doing what she does. Darren has worked within digital marketing since the last century, and was the first in-house web designer for video games retailer GAME in the UK, known as Electronics Boutique in the States. After co-founding his own agency, Engage Web, in 2009, Darren has worked with clients around the world, including Australia, Canada and the USA.KEY TAKEAWAYSDanielle Clarke has always got a buzz from solving problems, going right back to fundraising for her school as an infant, through to refusing to settle for unsuitable work experience at school, and on to responding to the heartbreak of redundancy by going it alone in a male-dominated industry. As creative as she is determined, Danielle runs Danielle Clarke Creative, which specialises in branding, design and marketing solutions for the health, fitness and wellbeing sector. BEST MOMENTS‘My mum was a single parent and we didn't have much. I used to hate going home from school with these fundraising letters because I never wanted to ask my mum for money. I had this idea of doing a school magazine. Can't remember how much money we made but parents were buying them. That is the first memory I have of having a problem and feeling like I had the solving it'On becoming self employed ‘The main thing was because I've been made redundant a few times and even that word redundant. It's horrible, isn't it? You are of no use. You are no longer needed. That is what that word means, which is horrible'‘I think what I've learned (about being self-employed) is about having a balance, knowing when you need to take a break and understanding that there's always going to be something that needs to be done. There's always going to be quotes to do. There's always going to be emails to answer. There's always going to be work to do and it doesn't matter how long you work'‘I love what I do. If you don't like them, you dread them calling you, you dread picking up the phone, you dread speaking to them, everything about them. There are certain personality types that don't gel; the people who go through agency after agency because they're looking for the one that's right for them where the reality is they're the problem. I've learned to spot this early on, but I still get the feeling that I shouldn't turn a client away because it's business and they might lead to someone else, or they might not be as bad as I think. But, 99 times out of 100 they are! You need to leave on good terms and make it clear that you're not the right fit for each other and you both clearly have different paths/journeys to take. Recommend someone that could potentially help them with their journey and where they want to go so that you can go and work with people that aren't dickheads. The biggest thing I've done in business, and what a lot of people strive to do but don't quite succeed at, is not going into business and give yourself a job. I run a digital marketing agency, I'd don't design and build websites, do the SEO, send the email marketing campaigns myself anymore, all of that is done by other people. My job now is talking on podcasts, speaking on stages, networking with people, and doing the kind of stuff that drives leads into the business. You need to hire the right people to do that. You need to hold onto the people that are good, give them the opportunities they want for growth, that they want to do more ‘cool stuff' rather than just the technician parts. You need to let other people grow as well, you need to let them make their own decisions and empower them so that when problems or opportunities come into the business they can make those decisions themselves rather than keep coming to you to ask what they should do. BEST MOMENTS“My favourite way of firing a client is to have someone else at EngageWeb do it for me because I don't want to do it!”“We've never had a negative review, we've never had anyone have a pop at us on social media or anything. I'm surprised at that because of how outspoken I am, I've tried!”“On paper we had a really good team and should have won, but unfortunately the game wasn't played on paper, it was played on grass.”“I hate being the technician and doing the do, it's boring. You can't take time off or go anywhere because you stop earning. You need to get off that as soon as you can.” ABOUT THE GUEST TEDx speaker (his talk is "Why is Everything in the World So Strange"), stand-up comedy award winner and co-founder of digital marketing agency Engage Web – Darren Jamieson – has been in the field of online marketing since the last century. In today's episode Debbie engages in a fascinating conversation with qualified homeopath Wendy Jackson. Wendy shares her story of finding homeopathy to help her combat post-natal depression and the grief of miscarriage and how through this healing journey she decided to embark on a career in homeopathy and helping others. After four years of studying homeopathy, Wendy continued to expand her knowledge and now uses this in combination with her understanding of herbal tinctures, tissue salts, Australian bush flower essences, and doTERRA essential oils. Wendy is also a huge advocate for foraging and getting healing from nature. Wendy shares her passion for understanding pathology and the movement of disease and how through this understanding solutions can be found. KEY TAKEAWAYSDepression can be created through the suppression of emotions and traumas. The basis of homeopathy is that like cures like focussing on the concepts of quantum physics and energy medicine.Herring's Law of Cure explains that when you take a remedy, it acts as a stimulus for the body, so it stimulates your immune system to get well. The body has natural detoxing and filtering processes taking place to prevent a build-up of chemicals and toxins stopping it working properly.Once the body has been stimulated it will get rid of not only physical toxins but also our limiting thoughts and emotions.Although people may have the same diagnosis, they often present with different symptoms that are unique to them.Looking after yourself physically and emotionally is an investment for your future. BEST MOMENTS "My husband at the time, saw an advert for this homeopath local to me, and so he took me, and I literally sat there and talked, I sat there for three hours just talking about my entire life.”"So I peeled away layers with the depression and the grief and the loss, a lot of anger. And then one of my biggest fears was driving any further than Nottingham.”"When you give a stimulus, the body will always send any illness or trauma out onto the skin because it is the biggest organ in the body.”"I'm a very different person now. You can't keep me in one place.”“I think when you start going on this therapeutic or healing journey, regardless of what modality it is, you realise how much you've accumulated throughout your life. And you go on that process of shedding and clearing and releasing everything on all levels of your being.”“I genuinely live like this with all my herbs, and remedies. I've got an apothecary at home.”“It's made me think about more the nature around us, the plant medicines around, because we had all of this ancient wisdom and knowledge and it's not just within our culture, but all cultures throughout the world, where medicines are used through plants and food is healing and nourishing.” HOST BIODebbie is a seasoned therapist whose journey from being a primary school teacher to an adept therapist has been fuelled by her fascination with the intricacies of human nature. Equipped with advanced certifications in diverse modalities like hypnotherapy, neuro-linguistic programming, mindfulness, meditation, past life regression and many more she has honed her expertise to bring about transformative change. As a full-time therapist and trainer, Debbie's driving passion is guiding others, as well as herself, towards their best selves. Embracing the concept of holistic beings, she firmly believes in addressing the mental, emotional, physical, social, energetic, and spiritual facets of well-being and healing. Hosted on Acast. For this episode, David is joined by Laura Johns the CEO and founder of The Business Grower. Currently, her company has 50 clients, for whom she and her team provide a wide range of marketing support and services that enable them to grow fast and sustainably. They do everything from creating a plan to establishing and scaling social, websites, branding, ads and more. KEY TAKEAWAYS For many businesses specialization is a fast way to grow. Work out what has been the most profitable, impactful and fun work, and then focus on those services or products. Always track what you are doing. Map out your touch points and keep a record of your journey with each client. Nobody is on social media to see your product, they want contact with people. Your social channels need to feel to people like they are in the room with your team. Most of your social media posts should be about serving your customers rather than selling your products. Strong processes are essential. Get your hiring right. Skill tests will help with this. Be clear about what you expect from people. Each team member should have their own KPI. Strong values are essential. Trust yourself. BEST MOMENTS ‘My goal is to truly equip them to make better decisions for their businesses.' ‘Live in honesty, in integrity.' ‘The data will tell you whether or not you're making an impact.' ‘Getting the right people in the right seats is a huge focus of mine.' Neil explores the concept of success and how it differs for each individual. He shares a conversation he had with a friend about their contrasting definitions of success, highlighting the importance of personal fulfilment and happiness. Neil discusses his own vision of a successful life, which involves teaching, helping others, and building his property businesses. He encourages listeners to reflect on their own definition of success and offers practical advice on how to align their current actions with their desired outcomes. KEY TAKEAWAYS Success is subjective: Neil highlights that everyone has their own unique definition of success. What may be considered successful for one person may not be the same for another. It emphasises the importance of understanding and defining success on a personal level. Write down your vision of success: Neil suggests writing down your vision of a perfect day and how you would spend it. This exercise helps to clarify your goals and aspirations, making it easier to identify if you are currently living your ideal life or if changes need to be made. Be aware of your own standards: By having a clear understanding of your own idea of success, you can better evaluate if you are on the right track or not. This allows you to make course corrections and take actions that align with your personal vision. Make it personal and present tense: Neil talks about the importance of making your vision of success personal and stating it in the present tense. By doing so, you create a stronger connection to your goals and increase your motivation to achieve them. Take action towards your perfect day: Once you have identified your vision of success, Neil encourages taking specific actions that will move you closer to your ideal life. This proactive approach helps to bridge the gap between where you are now and where you want to be. BEST MOMENTS "My idea of a happy and successful life is to teach what I love to people I adore, to help them make faster progress than I ever did, to fill them with a sense of their own possibilities." "Everybody's got their own unique definition of success... Matey Boy's is golf, holidays, and cruising. Mine's being useful, being playful, helping people, building a legacy, and making a fat pile of dosh at the same time." "No two people will share the same definition of what success means to them. So screw what anybody else thinks, let's talk about your vision of success." "If the answer to the first part is no, I'm not living my perfect life. That's a cue to change trajectory. You have to change something." "I'm having fun searching out the next property to add to my portfolio. I'll solve other people's property problems, help myself by helping them, by giving them a great deal. And this will all add to my legacy." www.Neilcowmeadow.com info@neilcowmeadow.com Neil Cowmeadow is a maverick peripatetic guitar teacher from Telford with over 19 years' experience in the business of helping people. The roles are reversed as Rob is interviewed! Get insight into the mindset of Rob himself, revealing his journey from humble beginnings to amassing a £50 million property portfolio. Hear Rob's thoughts on motivation, goal setting, and ignoring naysayers. He discusses controversies like paying guests and schemes for going viral. Rob also shares his approach to podcasting, social media, and producing engaging content. KEY TAKEAWAYS Retirement is a net monthly income number, not an age. Work to hit your number so you can retire early and avoid a deferred life. People wanting ordinary results won't understand your pursuit of extraordinary. Ignore them, think big, and pursue your unrealistic dreams. Reach out and collaborate with your successful podcast guests. Those relationships can open doors to future guests, opportunities, and new fans. Controversy creates buzz. Some creators intentionally post outrageous clickbait despite risks. But taking it too far can generate backlash. BEST MOMENTS"My dad said, 'If you don't ask, you don't get.' so I always had delusions of grandeur that I could be a successful entrepreneur.""At the end of the day, you are your product and environment. Your circumstances explain your actions but don't excuse your responsibility.""If mainstream media cancels you, don't get mad. Set up your own media. Rob is interviewed on the Lifetalk show with Jesse Meester, whom Rob has previously recorded episodes with as well as FB lives and Clubhouse too. They discuss some of the topics they have talked about previously, what's changed, including the impact of the Pandemic, on business the launch of Rob's NFT'S and also why and how to diversify your wealth. KEY TAKEAWAYS Rob has been an entrepreneur for over 25 years and has seen a lot of people come and go. He says to have long-term sustainable success you have to give consistent results. We are on the edge of a revolution, particularly around money and centralisation. If you want to be successful you have to recognise what you know and what you don't know too. People like Bitcoin because it's completely separate from the government, it's decentralised. Gold, watches and art are physical assets to invest in. Spread your money across a diverse range of assets trying to keep most of it in ones that you have control over. BEST MOMENTS “My plan is to give people a lifetime of unlockable bonuses and benefits” “We need to humble ourselves and understand when there are people in our circle that are adapting early to certain projects that we need to sit back and listen” “The one thing I've nearly always regretted is selling [bitcoin]” "Money is a tool, it's an enabler, it's an accelerant" VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ bit.ly/Robsupporter https://robmoore.com/podbooks rob.team ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. On this episode of the Lead With Purpose podcast host, Tze Ching Yeung talks to Dan Mather about how to handle adversities in life and business and how important mindset is in how to handle these adversities. KEY TAKEAWAYS I never ever expected to be where I am today. Life set out its own pathway for me, I think. I never felt like I was that good as an engineer, I thought I was faking it. One day I had a falling out with the service manager because I didn't agree with what she was doing. On the same day a customer asked me why he had to deal with her instead of coming straight to me, so I thought perhaps I should be the service manager. I fought for years to get to that position and when I did, I wasn't happy. I wanted to become the operations manager, so I went for that and got it. Eventually I wanted to own the company. I bought 40% of the company and became the operations director and was quite happy with that for a while. My business partner used me as his patsy, he wasn't paying suppliers or staff. I helped them all out but I realised this wasn't sustainable. I was £100,000 in debt, I couldn't work for anybody else, so I set up my own business. Some of my old customers came with me for the ride and got me some decent clients from the start and in a few years I managed to pay off all my debt and here I am today with a seven-figure business. During the bad times I started working on my mindset quite a lot and one of the first books I read was the accidental entrepreneur. I got myself a business coach who took me down the route of Grant Cardone who just gives you a kick up the backside. All I've done since is try to take massive action because I know that if you don't then things start falling down. You have to keep pushing forward every single day. I can't see a time that I'll never push. Do I want to keep doing what I'm doing now? No. I want to remove myself from the business and I'm trying to build to sell right now and there's a good team around me that will take it to the next level. That will enable me to go and do other projects, set up other businesses and investments and do it all over again. I'd like to take people with a concept for a business to take them from that concept to a scale up, six-figure business in a relatively short space of time, depending on the industry. The nuts and bolts of business are the same, so why not help other people do it? BEST MOMENTS‘My greatest strength and greatest weakness at the same time is, I always see the future, what the future looks like, I future-pace everything. Most of the time, when I'm future-pace, it's unrealistic, but it gives you the drive if you do it with purpose.'‘You need people cheering you on. You need to surround yourself with people saying “you can do this”.'‘When they say 90% of businesses fail within the first 12 months it's not because of lack of business, it's because the people don't know what they're getting themselves into, they think it's going to be easy and they've usually got a plan B, which is a safe option.'‘I've got an addictive personality. When I smoke I can't just have one or two, I'd have to have the whole pack and I'm not satisfied until the pack is finished. It's the same with business: I'm not happy with being small, I've got to get bigger, and I've got to plan for growth.' This episode marks the one-year anniversary of the Disabled & Proud podcast and Brooke has put together some of her favourite bits from her guests over the last year From calling out society, learning to see disability through a different lens, finding the sex toys that work through to changing policy, statistics and being creative this is an episode not to be missed KEY TAKEAWAYS They spent a year trying to fix but the pain was through the roof and having my leg chopped off was like being reborn, it changed me in a good way I used to class myself as chronically ill before I realised I was disabled as well I realised that the experiences of being disabled are very different and it's not a bad thing Having a body that is different to someone else doesn't make you any less of a person When you think of all the bad things that can go on in life not having an arm and shoulder is something I can overcome, the worst thing is that I can't clap Inadequacy is always directed at our broken bodies instead of looking at what can be changed I was able to see myself and my disability through a different lens It became very apparent that a lot of the sex toys weren't accessible for people with dexterity issues Disabled people are more creative and better at problem-solving because of being in a society that isn't built for disabled people BEST MOMENTS ‘My body is not here to entertain you or make you feel better about your body' ‘I'd rather concentrate on what I can do, instead of what I can't' ‘There is so much that can be fixed but people just don't see it' VALUABLE RESOURCES Disabled & Proud Podcast ABOUT THE HOST Disabled and Proud is the show that brings listeners a different perspective on disability. On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul is joined by returning guest Aimee Mosco in the second episode on missional leadership and spirituality – specifically around identity and our relationship to the outside world – from a more spiritual perspective than the first episode, which was more religion-focussed. KEY TAKEAWAYS We're eternal beings, we constantly change and constantly grow, so we need to ask ourselves questions about who we are, what are our beliefs today, and how have I grown every day. Otherwise we get stuck in who we were yesterday and that becomes our identity. A little fluidity is very beneficial. Spirituality to me means the essence of your spirit, your spiritual beliefs are your home, it's where all your thoughts and emotions are derived from. I'm intuitive and have been studying spirituality for many years from my own perspective and divine archives and the conclusion that I've drawn is that spirituality is really a compendium of experiences and lessons for the soul. My spiritual foundation was constructed on these lessons and knowledge that I've curated and put in my divine archives to use on a daily basis. I grew up Catholic, but I wasn't able to embrace the faith because some things just didn't sound right to me: Some of the stories that are told and perpetuated by the Catholic religion just didn't feel right. But, I always felt like there was something more that I needed to know about. Behind the scenes I developed a very close relationship to “Jesus energy” or “the Christ Consciousness energy”, to me it's the most pure energy that exists and is available to us. Through my studies I believe that Jesus was who we called Christ, but I believe that there have been many Christs. In fact, I believe that the next coming of Christ is really about us stepping into our own Christhood, seeing ourselves as Jesus or a God. I think we're always guided by spirit, our own inner spirit and grand inner spirit. We're actually programmed to be guided by this higher guiding force or light, but the burden is on us to actually discover who and what we are as an individual. My studies have also been around how the human energy field is constructed. This is constructed from the lessons of the Christ consciousness, it's our goal as an embodied being to integrate some level of mastery to these lessons. BEST MOMENTS ‘My success is your success is our success. Ultimately, we're all connected by our spiritual roots even if our faiths and practices are different.'‘Spirituality to me means the essence of your spirit, your spiritual beliefs are your home, it's where all your thoughts and emotions are derived from.'‘Jesus was a man, but he was able to channel through his vessel these pure energies, pure information, pure teachings, pure lessons and then display or mirror them for others.'‘Faith is like our little test that we can use as a guidepost, I believe it's directly connected to your inner truth and spirit.' On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul is joined by first-time guest Claire Bankole, a coach who leads a Christian charity called Shift Youth and Community, to talk about identity – both how we see ourselves and how others see us and how we interact externally and internally. KEY TAKEAWAYS For me, being a Christian is an all-encompassing thing. I live my life as a faith worker, I don't draw a salary and haven't done it for 20 years. I live my life based on what I sense my purpose is and my call before God and as I do that I trust that everything that I need will come. Faith for me is tuning into what God is doing, in my and in you, what am I experiencing now? How do I see my past and make sense of it? How do I make sense of these circumstances? How do I make sense of who I am and my own life? It's about perspective, but you look at everything. The anchor point is Jesus and God and He is good, and so all things work together for good. But, it's not in a random way, it's in a trustworthy way. Aa we follow and are obedient to that way of love, we are expressing His nature and we become more like him, and the world will become a better place. Love is the opposite of self-centeredness, when we love the other as Christ loves us, we lay down our lives, it's a sacrificial, unconditional love. My understanding of my sense of self is that we're complex, living beings, we are physical, mental, spiritual. But we're pulled in two directions, towards God and towards the self. One is towards trust and relationship, and one is mistrust and self-preservation and there's a constant pull between them. BEST MOMENTS ‘My perspective of faith is seeing things the way God sees them and living accordingly.'‘God is intelligently and lovingly interacting and waiting and bringing about His purposes and His goodness. That requires us to harmonise with him.'"God is love and, as a Christian, the greatest commandment is to love God, the next greatest is to love your neighbour, then Jesus added a third one: Love one another as He has loved us.'‘Often in religious conversations, people can get very idealistic. Christians are called to love and He sorts out everything else, we're not called to judge, separate, say I'm in and you're not.' Today Nicole is joined by Rachel Waring, a creative consultant to talk all about Pinterest and how to make it work for you. Listen in for some really useful tips on what you can be doing differently on Pinterest, how the strategy differs from Instagrams, content repurposing, and most importantly how you can use it to grow your product business. KEY TAKEAWAYS The first place you should start when using Pinterest is knowing why people are there. Stop treating it like Instagram and start treating it like Google. It has social elements but is also a search engine. Imagine you've had a party and you're likely to share photos and videos of the party on Instagram, Tik Tok, or Facebook. Pinterest is where you go to plan the party in the first place, it's a future planning tool. Think about what your ideal customer is searching for on Pinterest and aim to meet them there. You can then take them from whatever thing in common that might be to your page where your content is already targeted to what they like. Remember that Pinterest likes fresh original content from their creators and that is what it will push or promote the most. Think strategically about what words you're using. Every word you use will help Pinterest put you in the right categories for people's searches. We want to avoid keywords and to use real sentences instead. One of the things that is so amazing about Pinterest is that your pins are evergreen. One optimised pin could bring you traffic for years to come. Rachel is still getting 200,000 monthly views on a wedding pin from 2019. BEST MOMENTS ‘My business could survive without Instagram but would struggle without Pinterest' ‘Pinterest is your vision board' ‘Make sure all of your boards are relevant to your ideal customer' ‘You don't have to be on Pinterest all the time to get results' ‘You have to be patient with Pinterest' EPISODE RESOURCES Pinterest free challenge: https://rachel-emma-waring.ck.page/the-spark 1-1 packages: https://www.rachelemmawaring.com/creative-consultancy Ignite Your Pinterest Strategy: https://www.rachelemmawaring.com/ignite-your-pinterest-strategy ABOUT THE HOST Buying & retail expert Nicole Higgins spent the last 18 years working for companies such as Primark, M&S, Debenhams and Asda, sourcing & developing products from all over the world, building strategies for blue chip businesses, and increasing bottom line sales and profit, adding over £40 million in incremental business to the bottom line. On this episode of Scouting For Growth, Sabine VdL talks to Christie Downs. A self-made entrepreneur and problem solver who started handdii with her co-founder Kathryn Wood. After working as an executive in the construction industry, building deep experience and broad industry relationships, Christie saw an opportunity to use technology to improve the way customers connect with contractors when they are making property insurance claims. This is how handdii was born as a three-way digital platform, combining insurance, construction and contractors, where contractors can easily connect, engage and promote their businesses. KEY TAKEAWAYS I am a high-energy business leader who loves solving problems and creating exciting solutions that transform people's lives. After working as an executive in the construction industry, building deep experience and broad industry relationships, I saw an opportunity to use technology to improve the way customers connect with contractors when they are making property insurance claims, making it quicker, faster, and cheaper for insurers, clients, and tradespeople. We're just at the starting line, there's so much opportunity ahead. I think the early innovation in our sector has been pretty straightforward. How do we buy faster, make things convenient, streamline processes and save cost? Quite a lot of separate practical solutions. For example, right now, there are many inspection tools and solutions an insurance company would use – virtual inspections, drones, AI, and they might actually use various tools all at once. Our vision is to make small property claims amazing. The industry has a cumbersome process for property claims with multiple people and approvals involved designed for large losses. This process is not designed to fast-track small claims, and moreover, the major suppliers to the insurance industry would prefer not to handle small claims. So, my Co-Founder and I set out to change that! Handdii is a really practical solution to a common problem. Any Claims leader can see the opportunity in their portfolio to improve how small claims are managed. We're really focused on our niche, and when we partner with an insurer, we make it easy to work with us. Our team has a solid property claims background, reflected in the product and program we have built. This makes it easy for the insurer to work with us because we speak their language and understand their challenges while having the speed and the money to be an innovative partner creating solutions for them. BEST MOMENTS‘My experience also includes being Executive of Carlton Football Club as the General Manager of Business Development introducing unique revenue streams, the creation of Carlton Respects program against family violence and Blue Skies program supporting diversity and inclusion in the inaugural year of AFLW.'‘I think the future of innovation will become more and more integrated into our lives, activities, and systems. Bringing all of these different solutions together, then once that efficiency is achieved, we'll look to bring innovation to achieve more purposeful outcomes around sustainability, inclusion, and prosperity.'‘COVID has made some things much easier and others more challenging. For example, onboarding contractors, meeting via video rather than in person, has streamlined how quickly we have expanded our contractor network across multiple states this year. Whereas meeting new insurance companies is more challenging, we are certainly happy the in-person conferences are kicking off again now.'‘When working with large enterprises, be patient, be persistent, be astute commercially – if you're bringing great value, hold your line on your cost.' ABOUT THE GUESTChristie Downs: I am a high-energy business leader who loves solving problems and creating exciting solutions that transform people's lives and work. After working as an executive in the construction industry, building deep experience and broad industry relationships, I saw an opportunity to use technology to improve the way customers connect with contractors when they are making property insurance claims, making it quicker, faster, and cheaper for insurers, clients, and tradespeople. I made the leap to entrepreneurship in 2018, starting handdii with Kathryn Wood.handdii is a three-way platform where contractors can easily connect, engage and promote their businesses, insurers experience reduced cost, and both and customers find their property insurance repairs are easier and cheaper to organize with better results. My core career experience of ten years was as group sales director and board member of the national construction company, Johns Lyng Group, ASX listed as JLG. I played a lead role in the national expansion and exponential revenue growth of the group, from $12 million in 2004 to $350 million in 2015. During this experience, I saw first-hand the problems people had with getting repairs done, often after stressful situations, and experienced fantastic contractors who ran great businesses. My experience also includes being the Executive of Carlton Football Club as the General Manager of Business Development, introducing unique revenue streams, the creation of the Carlton Respects program against family violence, and the Blue Skies program supporting diversity and inclusion in the inaugural year of AFLW.I am passionate about contributing to society and was Chair of Starball Committee Sydney for 3 years, raising more than USD $1 million for Starlight Children's Foundation.I love to share my experiences and learnings with #public speaking on the value of diversity and inclusion, starting your own venture, and how the insurtech industry is evolving. About handdii: Having worked as a Director of a Construction company in the Insurance industry for 10 years, I know customer satisfaction in property claims is very low. This is because the traditional fulfillment process is complicated and takes 60 days on average to get a property repaired. Yet, 80% of property claims are small and only require 1 or 2 trades. For this 80% of small claims, handdii dramatically improves the customer experience by pairing the customer with the trade they need to assist in claim determination and complete works immediately. Cutting claim life from 2 months to 1 week.handdii makes workflow easy for trades through pre-agreed rates, opt-in scheduling, automated processing, and payment. Minimizing these friction points empowers the trades to focus on providing quality work and an awesome customer experience. For insurance companies, handdii can provide claim lodgement and allocation, save 25% in claims cost and enable digital transformation for property claims. A significant positive impact on customer satisfaction (NPS) will lead to new customer acquisition and further product opportunities. https://www.handdii.com/ ABOUT THE HOST Sabine is a corporate strategist turned entrepreneur. In this episode, Joel sits down with the performance specialist Dean Link to talk about re-thinking imposter syndrome. Dean has spent most of his career helping elite athletes to rewire their brains. Before moving into a leadership role working with coaches, sports scientists and administrators helping them to create an environment people could thrive in. He is now applying that knowledge to the business world. They discuss why imposter syndrome is actually a quite natural way to feel. But it is a feeling which can easily overwhelm us. In the episode, Dean explains how you can stop that from happening and harness it in a way that helps you to learn. To turn yourself into a more flexible person who can adapt and thrive regardless of what life throws at you. KEY TAKEAWAYS If you feel that you need to be right all the time you will always feel like an imposter. Nobody can know everything. It is good to be reminded that there are gaps in your knowledge, but you must not let the feeling of imposter syndrome overwhelm and stop you. Creating an environment in which employees can thrive enables them to perform and improves staff retention. Human beings love certainty and being in control. But that is not how the world works. When you accept that you can thrive. You can´t stop yourself from caring what people think, but you can control how much emotion, energy, and importance you attach to it. You can turn imposter syndrome on its head and turn it into something positive. BEST MOMENTS‘My job really is being a great investigator to understand what the problem is and then try and figure out the best way to support them. ´‘I often say if you've got impostor syndrome, that's great. Let's harness it. If people say I don't have it, I'm like, 'There's a red flag.'‘It isn´t the feelings and thoughts that cause us the suffering. It's what we do with the feelings and thoughts that causes us pain.''Impostor syndrome can either go two ways. It's something that we can either thrive with, or we can suffer with it. And it's a choice.' On this episode of the World Game-Changers podcast, Paul is joined by Bridget Kigambo to talk about the comparing the circumstances and situations faced by previous generations of Ugandan women, and women around the world, to those faced by the current generation around femininity, with specific reference to FGM (female genital mutilation). KEY TAKEAWAYS In Uganda we have tribes that practice FGM. Mostly it happens in Northern Uganda and it is a cultural way of cutting (or circumcision), because our ancestors and traditional leaders believed you had to be circumcised to get married. In most cases, in a typical family, at 5 years old your mother can send you to your aunt's place where they take you through the initiation of why you should be cut and how it will benefit you as a woman. With the wrong tools that they carry out that activity, sometimes it's so painful that they have to tie the girls to the table and the cultural leader (who is a female) comes and slices you with either a razor blade or a knife. With the help from civil society organisations and NGOs like Unicef, UNU, NFTA and other international organisations that invest funds to create awareness and train communities about how it is a human rights abuse to circumcise young women, especially children because it deprives them of sexual pleasure and it disfigures the reproductive parts of a woman. If god created you with a full vagina with a clitoris inside and the culture says you need to cut it off, it somehow dismantles the whole reproductive system of a woman and causes several diseases, not forgetting the trauma that comes with the circumcision. Through these programmes and activities, I see organisations creating awareness on how FGM not only deprives women of their divinity or their ability to carry on with their work or lead lives normally, but it's not a must that every woman who has to get married has to go through FGM. Redefining femininity for me would mean being in a female-friendly community where I can fully exploit my potential, full access to all the basic needs I need as a woman to not only be a woman but also reach out to the spaces where before women were not allowed. Traditionally, African families were expected to invest more in their boys, no matter how many girls you had, because they believed that when the kids are old enough for marriage the women take all the glory, wealth and knowledge that they receive to the next family – they don't belong to the families they are born into. But currently, I would say most families are more invested in supporting all girls in a way that they should go to school the same as the boys. BEST MOMENTS ‘My family doesn't believe in FGM, but from the stories that we hear FGM somehow contributes to your divinity as a woman because if you're not circumcised, or cut, you most definitely won't get married or get a husband.' ‘With the kind of awareness and knowledge sharing that we are having, we're noticing reduced cases especially in the North. It's better now and we're getting there to a point where FGM will not be there anymore.' ‘We have women MPs as well as men MPs, even in religious structures that used to be so rigid that they wouldn't allow religious leaders to be women, we're starting to see some institutions providing platforms and opportunities for women to lead, which is a great way for us to redefine femininity.' ‘We are working towards enabling young women and girls to not only identify their skills and potentials, but also manage them to see what they can do towards creating gender inclusion and equality in our communities.' Episode Question: Can doctors move into interior design? In this episode, I talk with Dr. Joanna Draper who completed her core surgical training and then stepped away from her surgical career pathway and moved into a career in interior design We discuss how she came to the decision to make a change and what training she undertook to move into a career in interior design. Joanna also explains how her medical skill set has enabled her to progress quickly to a leadership position with her current Interior Design employer and candidly reflects with me on whether changing careers was the right decision for her. KEY TAKEAWAYS As I progressed in my medical career I craved doing something more creative I don't regret doing medicine because I wanted to know that I could do it In the end, I reached a place of burnout, realised I couldn't sustain it and began to realise I was sacrificing too much of my life I looked at what I enjoyed as a starting point and rediscovered interior design Spending a year as a surgical HO was an opportunity to look at which area of medicine I might want to specialise in and ultimately confirmed for me that I wanted to make a change Stepping away is hard because of the time spent training and the investment that has been made Interior design does lend itself to transferable skills My job is 10% creative and 90% logistical operations and makes effective use of the logistical skills I brought from being a doctor College provided the network of contacts that meant that I was offered a role at the business where I interned This is not an industry that pays hugely and the best financial benefits come through being part of the management team or having your own studio BEST MOMENTS ‘My company is select and we work with high net worth individuals' ‘The skillset from medicine was valued and gave me an advantage ‘My training as a doctor means I can keep things in perspective' RESOURCES FOR THIS EPISODE GET NEW EPISODES FIRST & MY UPDATES HERE https://medicfootprints.org/joinourmission TRANSFORM YOUR CAREER WITH ME AND MORE. https://medicfootprints.org/gopremium REACH OUT TO OUR TEAM! Paul is joined by Ekta Mahajan to discuss this intriguing title that comes from Ekta's childhood where she was told that ever time you face adversity or struggle, just look in the mirror and smile and most of your struggles will be resolved. KEY TAKEAWAYS When you look at yourself in the mirror a different kind of energy exudes, positive vibrations come out that give you a lot of strength, a lot of power and creativity to take on life. Rather than being self-critical, try to identify yourself, try to be self-aware and try to know yourself deeper. Once you know yourself then you can take on and solve any kid of mystery that you may come across. When we talk about self-love, what is love? Love is a pure, divine power which gives your immensely more fuel, it accelerates in whatever direction your want to put it. We all have got 360 degree lives, I want to segregate life into about five areas I'd like to focus: career, family, relationships, social and health. Where I focus that divine energy is the section that will flourish, but our objective is to obtain balance. You only attain that balance when you are self-aware. We only become self-aware when we delve deeper, which we do when are comfortable in our own self and skin. This is important especially for entrepreneurs or those who run their own business. We're all just a really little speck in this universe. Do we really need to have an ego or anger and jealousy? No. If we can widen our perception and intelligence by just being what we are, I think we can probably drive the road of success. BEST MOMENTS ‘My understanding of a smile or a kiss in the mirror is about being kind to yourself.' ‘Self-awareness allows you to take the courage to make the right decisions which ultimately result in success.' ‘Isn't it very profound and doesn't it make you smile when you hear someone loves their own company? That person is comfortable in their own skin.' ‘It's only me that can help myself.' In this episode, Host Helen Lee continues her interview with Mia Kyricos, a globally respected thought leader in the business of wellness and brand strategy with 20+ years of experience cultivating wellness, hospitality, healthy lifestyle and travel brands across 100+ countries. As President and Founder of Kyricos & Associates LLC, a strategic advisory and referral firm, and as the world's first Chief Love Officer, Mia enables senior leaders to activate Ecosystems of Wellbeing™, advancing both brand and business objectives. Helen and Mia talk about self love leading to the application of love in all environments, scheduling love in your life, Mia's five love lessons, her experience in business, the economy of wellness and thus love, and their shared mission to increase humanity's consciousness to include universal love. You can watch Mia's presentation at the Global Wellness Summit in 2020 on "Love as A Business Strategy" here: https://youtu.be/XclSRbd_XPM Helen will be organising Masterclasses with some of her podcast guests, possibly with follow-on courses as well. She hopes to do so with Mia and will conduct some of her own too. Stay tuned and enjoy Part 2 of this conversation with Mia! "We all need to love and be loved. And the time has come that we allow ourselves to do so and create communities, a whole new world, that is based on love rather than fear. And from the powerful position of love, there will be abundance for all - all human beings, all living things, everything in Existence that lives and breathes. And we can begin living this way now, some of us can lead the way and exemplify this more evolved way of being." ~ Helen Lee, Jan 18, 2012 So, kudos to Mia and others adopting love as a business strategy or bringing consciousness to commerce, as Neil Jacobs, CEO of Six Senses: Luxury Hotels, Resorts & Spas does (check out Episode 14 on "Future Of Humanity: Bringing Consciousness to Commerce - with Neil Jacobs). KEY TAKEAWAYS Mia speaks to the concept of loving oneself to her clients and audiences. The people who are most opposed or critical of love as a business strategy are those with the least amount of love in their lives towards themselves and others. If love exists in someone's life, they would immediately or more easily recognise the worth of applying it into their business life as well. There is very little scheduling of play, joy and growth activities in the business world and these aspects of life are essential, so why not at work? When creating a schedule during tough times, make time for love. Dinners, conversations and play that builds your spirit and wellbeing. In a Masterclass of Mia's, she advocates 5 Love Lessons. Some companies have already made love part of their business some years ago. The absence of trust makes it impossible for love to grow. You can track and measure the impact of love in your business. Positivity comes in many forms, but love is its greatest and according to Dr Barbara Fredrickson, whom Mia loves, you need to have three positive thoughts for every negative thought. Mia also feels that you can care for people you do not love, but if you genuinely love to care, the impacts are exponential. Mia has held leadership positions for public and private companies, startups and established companies. Her experience is wide and varied in overseeing health and wellness within institutions. Helen and Mia are united in their determination to increase and expand human consciousness beyond its current limited level. Through different efforts working towards the same goal, wider understanding of the true nature of humanity can be achieved. BEST MOMENTS ‘My message to the world is that, along with love, comes abundance of all kinds including material abundance, or wealth, and it's not about abundance for some only but about abundance for all, that's for sure.' – Helen ‘One of the key pillars of wellbeing is really about social connection, joy, happiness and the things that you have in your life.' – Mia ‘If you do not schedule it it does not become a habit, it does not become who you are. Some people are innately lovely humans, like you are, Helen, but for people who do not feel that or are not tied to themselves you need to look at what their habits are and find a way to plug it in.' – Mia ‘You don't have to love everybody, but if you genuinely enjoy caring for them, that impact of love is still there and it will still blossom.' – Mia ‘The end result is higher consciousness for all of humanity and a totally different world. We need a minimum of ten years to do this.' – Helen ‘And much like you (Helen) said at the start of this podcast, which is, to legitimise the business of wellness, we need to quantify it and I helped to build organisations that did that. And now we can say that it's a 4.5 trillion dollar global economy, that is three times the size of the pharmaceutical industry.' – Mia ABOUT THE GUEST MIA KYRICOS Most recently, Mia was SVP & Global Head of Wellbeing at Hyatt, setting a new industry standard as a leader and curator of the company's global wellbeing strategy, spanning commercial health and wellness-related products, services, events and partnerships as well as colleague wellbeing for ~130,000 associates worldwide. Prior to Hyatt, she was Chief Brand Officer of Spafinder Wellness, Inc., where she led the company's brand evolution, positioning Spafinder as an authority for wellness trends, providers and resources. Mia also served as Vice President of EXOS where she oversaw the workplace wellness division operating on the campuses of companies such as Google and Intel. Prior to EXOS, she was Director of Global Spa Brands at Starwood Hotels & Resorts where she led the creation of 6 international spa brands and managed the Starwood Spa Collection - a consortium of 60 wellness travel destinations across 26 countries. Mia has served the boards of the Global Wellness Summit, and University of California Irvine, and sits on the Advisory Boards of Cornell University, Wellness for Cancer, and the Global Wellness Institute (GWI), a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational foundation she helped found. All the way from California, Rob interviews Koach Karl Dewazien, a well known coach and celebrated author of the world famous ‘FUNdamental Soccer' series of books, a cornerstone for all youth based and small sided games. Highly educated and informed in his field, Koach Karl is the go-to professional for all things youth soccer. KEY TAKEAWAYS Karls choice of career stems from his childhood as the son of a Polish mother, a nazi concentration camp survivor and a Lithuanian farmer father, captured by the Russians and the Nazis. He does not have a memory of his childhood, thus his impetus to provide children with a fulfilled, enjoyable youth. Aided by teachers and coaches Karl escaped a troubled youth and got successfully involved with sports. Sport holds lessons about responsibility that both Rob and Karl have experienced. Karl has played all the American sports, football, baseball, basketball and track and got a scholarship to Fresno Pacific as a soccer player. Karls first memory is of his father weeping on board a battleship from Germany to New York as he arrived with the Statue of Liberty behind him. Karl has written many soccer manuals on how to coach children in football including ‘FUNdamental Soccer' and ‘Miles and Miles of Soccer Smiles', co wrote with special needs children in mind. Unless a child is allowed to practice, experiment and fail, there will be no innovation or development in sport. Karls coaching methods allow for children to express themselves in a less controlled, more fun manner. BEST MOMENTS ‘My wife calls me an ‘over worker'. It seems that all I do is try to focus on the children.' – Karl ‘I don't know if the English know what a punk is, but it's a teenager who's totally lost. Has no idea what to do with his life. I ended up being arrested quite a few times and, quite honestly, if it hadn't of been for sports I think I would have either ended up in jail, or as a very young dead individual.' – Karl ‘What you just said is littered with life lessons. The adversity that you suffered as a child, never mind your parents. Wow. The thing about sport, particularly for young men..' - Rob ‘I'm not sure if you're going to believe me, but my earliest memory is where my parents had tried for the United States to come here thirteen times.' - Karl ‘Where do the best players come from in all sports? It's the kids that aren't being organised who come up with the unique way of running the sport just a little bit different. There's no one way of hitting a tennis ball or throwing a basketball or kicking a soccer ball.' – Karl ‘Here in the United States we've got child obesity. Children that are overweight. Well why are they overweight? Fast food that they eat, parents don't watch their diet. Anything that we can do to make sure the kid feels happy, we do for them.' - Karl ABOUT THE GUEST After a playing and coaching career that helped lay the foundation for the storied Fresno Pacific University Men's Soccer program, Koach Karl Dewazien has gone on to become a household name in the world of soccer. As a player he scored 21 career goals, graduating as the program's all-time leading scorer, and distinguished himself as a team leader. His leadership was so trusted that he was actually named head coach of the team prior to his senior season. After serving as player-coach for one year, he held the position for four more seasons before moving on to become one of the major pioneers of the sport in the United States. His Soccer education includes: United States Soccer Federation “A” License #28, West German “A” License course, Holland (English) Coaching course, FIFA Coaching Academies (by invitation), Canadian National Staff Coaching course, and many more throughout the U.S. and Europe. Karl served as the California Youth Soccer Association State Director of Coaching from 1978 to 2012. He is considered the Pioneer of West Coast Soccer Camps and has been a clinician for thousands of coaches throughout the U.S. A well-published author, he has been a contributor to every major soccer publication in the U.S. and is a featured speaker at State, National, and International events. His “Modified Laws of the Game” for youth players, used by the U.S. Youth Soccer Association, has become the standard throughout the U.S. and Canada. Koach Karl is the author and publisher of the world-famous “FUNdamental Soccer” book series, the cornerstone of Youth Soccer practice and Small Sided games. The “FUNdamental Soccer – Practice” book been translated into Spanish, Japanese, and most notably, Chinese (the People's Republic of China translated and distributed to all youth coaches in China). He has been inducted into multiple Halls of Fame, including: Lemoore Union High School (2001), Coalinga Junior College (2003), Fresno Pacific University (2014), and California Youth Soccer Association (2014). Most recently, Koach Karl is the Administrator of Recreation at CYSA District 7, and a full-time Internet Clinician. His website www.FundamentalSoccer.com has been a staple for Youth Soccer coaches for 15+ years. The thing with life-changing accidents is that they change you, forever. And when you're a teenager and are paralysed after a head-on car crash, if you are lucky enough to wake up, you find yourself at a crossroad My guest for this episode, Ryan Rae Harbuck, found herself at this exact place. And whether it's because she describes herself as having a “stubborn” personality, or being a lifelong athlete, she made the decision early on that she would do what she could to get back to the life that she wanted to live, to do the things she had always wanted to do. She has been insistent about creating meaning from what others may characterise as her “worst moments”, and has lived a focused, intentional life full of personal meaning. As an adult, she's had a career as a teacher – first as a high school sciences teacher, then as a swim coach – personally, I think this helps her distill the lessons she's learned into perfectly-contained stories. Please join me and get to know Ryan, who is one of the funniest, determined, most optimistic people I've ever met. KEY TAKEAWAYS - to be free, you need to find a way to accept that you can't change the way others perceive you. You are worthy of the life that you want; just through your lived experience, you have something to teach others. The meaning that you make out of the things that happen to you doesn't have to make sense to anyone else. If you're doing something that you really want to do – it won't matter if you fail. If the regret is taken out of it, all that can come out of it is joy. BEST MOMENTS - “My body is different, so I need to swim differently. I would say that it took about a dozen years -- that I needed to change things in the pool if I wanted to get more out of it.” “We shouldn't have to have bad things happen to us in order to do good things.” “Being a mom means a lot of yourself…it doesn't get taken away, but it evolves a little bit, and so I don't think I have a lot of things that I would call my own.” “Everything that we have is (really) precious; that comes down to the people in our lives, the days that we're given, the nature – every single piece of it. And wanting to be the best for every bit of it.” ABOUT THE GUEST Ryan was born and raised in Colorado. She recently completed and self-published her memoir, “When I Grow Up, I Want to Be a Chair”. When she was 16 years old, she was involved in a serious car accident that left her paralyzed from the chest down. As she began the recovery process, she realized had an advantage as an athlete – she was used to practicing something and improving over time. She faced her physical recovery the same way -- practicing her rehabilitation until she was able to get back to the things she loved to do, and the life she wanted to lead. From that moment, she understood she could focus on building an intentional life. Ryan is a wife and mother, a swim coach, a teacher, a motivational speaker, and an outdoor enthusiast. Amanda Barrientez was studying for a Ph.D. in Sociology when she listened to the little voice inside herself that told her she wasn't living in full alignment with her goals. Her marriage had broken up, the next relationship she was in had also failed, and she was a parent who could barely afford rent. The study of sociology makes her highly attuned to how humans behaved, and that period of personal upheaval made her realize that she had several limiting beliefs about her worth, which then affected what she thought she should earn. She began to take certification towards being a financial and lifecoach, and now works with other entrepreneurs to help them work through the obstacles that are in the way between them and their best lives. “Throwing Petals Downhill” is a philosophy about work that she developed. Running a business and becoming your best self is work, but it should feel like throwing petals down a hill, rather than pushing a boulder up. KEY TAKEAWAYS Getting unstuck around your limiting beliefs about money is a question of working on self-esteem issues. It's a spiritual journey. There is no such thing as “bad” or “good”. If you can see situations as opportunities to grow and learn, to try and separate from that binary thinking, you start to live more in the present moment, which helps you live in gratitude and can rewire your thinking. She wants to help people learn how to transform themselves into the best version of themselves. The money will follow. Think of the word “healing”. It evokes nurturing, rest, space, care. Amanda has been called “The Money Healer” and she truly embodies this approach to her business and how she helps her clients. BEST MOMENTS - “My mantra for 2021 was ‘work less, make more, have fun.'” “Fear and shame are really low energies, and most people feel a lot of that about money. I've worked with people of all different incomes and class levels, and I can't think of a person I've met yet who feels 100% good about money. … How can you get into alignment in your soul to feel good in this body in this life?” “I'm curious about the human puzzle and for the reason of conscious evolution – consciousness evolution.” “You are whole as you are.” ABOUT THE GUEST Amanda is passionate about helping other entrepreneurs heal their relationships with money so they can achieve their professional goals. She is grounded in the certainty that your questions about financial worth have spiritual answers. Her approach to working with clients is a combination of mindfulness techniques, goal setting, and helping them dream their big dreams – and her formula is so successful in a few short years she has grown NFA into a six-figure consulting business. She is Colorado born and raised, a mother to three children, and a lifelong student of human nature. Jehan Annis has several businesses, as well as being a chartered accountant and experienced property investor. He has done a lot of buy-refurbish-refinance projects. Alongside HMOs and serviced accommodation. Today, his main focus is handsfree serviced accommodation portfolio building, which is what he covers in this podcast. He explains how he runs his properties and how he is now enabling investors to benefit from that successful approach, starting with an investment of as little as 5K. KEY TAKEAWAYS HMOs can be niched e.g., set up to house professionals, students, or as social tenants. For both HMOs and SA, long-term bookings have many benefits. Having a cookie-cutter approach to each property saves time and money. Sourcing properties and providing staging and management as a package is an extremely lucrative property business model, which Jehan explains in the podcast. Currently, there is a huge demand in the UK for property sourcing. BEST MOMENTS ‘My preference was cash flow and therefore I choose HMO conversions.' ‘There are just so many people out there that are looking to buy (property) to the point where we cannot meet that demand' VALUABLE RESOURCES Discovery Day Sign Up Page - https://progressiveproperty.online/serviced-accommodation-discovery-register/AMB3258 The Serviced Accommodation Property Podcast - https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-serviced-accommodation-property-podcast/id1436005279?mt=2 https://propertysoldier.co.uk/ Serviced Accommodation Success by Kevin Poneskis Rich Dad, Poor Dad by Robert T Kiyosaki GUEST RESOURCES https://thestarsterling.com/ Phone - +44 7955 765066 ABOUT THE HOST Your host Kevin Poneskis enjoys public speaking, travelling, exercising, and keeping fit. Dorsey Ross shares with Mighty Pete and the Fire in the Belly audience about what it's like to live with a visible birth defect and facial deformity. His parents' miracle baby, born in 1977 -- 21 years after their first child and 16 years after their second – he was quickly diagnosed with Apert's Syndrome. Rather than institutionalize him as was recommended, his parents brought him home and raised him like they would anyone else. He found community early on in church youth groups: in the church he was never bullied like he was elsewhere; people accepted him for who he was and supported the vision for his life. This experience instilled a deep bedrock of faith in him and started him on the path of becoming a travelling minister. He is a proud public speaker and aims to inspire everyone he meets to doggedly pursue the life of their dreams. KEY TAKEAWAYS You can do anything you want in life if you allow yourself to figure out your own way of approaching your goals. Determination and faith are the foundation of a successful life. If you uncover your true self, the people who are meant to love and support you will find you. Being of service to others takes the guesswork out of having a good, fulfilled life. BEST MOMENTS “My parents always encouraged me to try and figure out what are the things Dorsey can do and what are the things that Dorsey can't do. From that I learned…that there weren't many things I wouldn't be able to do, even if I had to adapt.” “(God) created me for a reason and a purpose.” “My gift is to encourage people…to inspire people to do what it is that God wants them to do… to push on in their life circumstances, in their life trials, the barriers that people put in front of them that they can overcome.” (Regarding what he'd like his legacy to be) “(Dorsey was) one of those people (who) never gave up, (who) who kept going on, (who) kept persevering in his life.” ABOUT THE GUEST Dorsey Ross was never meant to survive. Born in 1977 with a rare birth defect called Apert's Syndrome, doctors initially told his parents that he was brain dead and that they should institutionalize him. His parents, though, wanted to see what he could do, and with their encouragement, Dorsey realized that he could do anything he wanted. After finding Christianity in his childhood, graduating high school, and taking college courses, he realized his true destiny was in ministry. He began calling different churches, asking if he could speak at their services. Decades later, Dorsey is still a “travelling minister” and a motivational speaker, as well as podcaster and tech aficionado. A person of devout faith who puts that faith into action, Dorsey is currently based in Pennsylvania. In this episode, Kevin speaks to Carol all about her journey into property, including what she found difficult, her mistakes but also what she has excelled at to build her success. bit.ly/prspnpod https://we.tl/t-RS0GYVJrwW KEY TAKEAWAYS Carol originally started in hotels, went into sales and marketing and started getting into property investing by accident. She started working for a real estate company, where she met a mortgage broker who introduced her into many other contacts. She then started finding and selling property investments for others. After some time she found a big deal for herself but it was right when the property market crashed in 2008 and she lost a lot of money, it's something that was painful but she learnt a lot from. Carol still does a lot of deal packaging, most of her clients never even see their property, they aren't emotionally invested and they trust Carol completely. When Carol went to her first Progressive event it was quite overwhelming. Despite the progress in the world it is still a very male dominated industry and she had doubts about whether she was in the right place. You can't just sell to someone straight away. You have to build a relationship and in something like deal packing, it is so important that they can fully trust you. You have to allow them to see your previous work, projects and even speak to past clients. BEST MOMENTS “My life's been a bit like the stock market” “97% of my clients never even see their property” “Property is a male dominated area” VALUABLE RESOURCES https://www.progressiveproperty.co.uk https://kevinmcdonnell.co.uk ABOUT THE HOST Kevin McDonnell is a Speaker, Author, Mentor & Professional Property Investor. To be successful in acquisition you need to start getting out of your comfort zone, success is just the other side of fear. Adam was working in accountancy and fell in love with small businesses, he started to have visions and ideas about acquiring them to create wealth. Fast forward to now and he has businesses in both the US and the UK and owns property in three different countries. He has never lost his excitement and passion for what he does and today shares why this is as well as how he does it. KEY TAKEAWAYS We can use real estate as a leverage to acquire more businesses. There is so many more deals to be had that you can use and ‘unlock' by buying property. It's important to do research so you utilise legislation that works for your acquisition, it differs greatly between projects and even more so between countries. You can save money and make deals more appealing to investors if you get this right. Adam's perfect vendor demographic is very broad in terms of sector so to narrow things down he focuses on B2B businesses (such as services and contractors). They also pay attention to those who probably want to take their lives down a notch, who have maybe had the business for quite some time and now want to retire or semi-retire. There then tends to be a lot of value-add opportunities. Adam and his company are in the business of buying businesses, which means they are the middle ground of business acquisition. They want to be more involved than a passive investor who just wants to make some extra money but not so involved that they are ‘owner operated' and want to be involved in the everyday running. Adam and his company put the structure in place so that they don't have to micromanage, effectively they are just going to ensure the cash keeps coming in and the business keeps growing. If it is a good deal then it is a good deal. If skeletons come out and change the deal then it wasn't a good deal and it's ok to walk away. Don't ever stop investigating and don't be scared to walk away if you find something that you are unhappy with. Adam's biggest regret was not trusting his intuition earlier on in life, both in his professional and personal life. If your gut is telling you to do something, there is a reason and you should find a way to do it. BEST MOMENTS “My focus is more on the business side…I typically focus first on the business and then the real estate sector” “We tend to be sector agnostic” “We're in the business of buying businesses” “The real cost isn't the money…the real issue is the amount of time” “It's incredible to slip the shoes on of someone who has already done all the work” ABOUT THE GUEST Adam Markley Adam is partnered with Carol Alan and together they work on acquisitions, of businesses and commercial property. Adam looks after the private equity arm and the publishing arm. ABOUT THE HOST Dan Taylor Dan has completed over 36 transactions with a value in the tens of millions, though more importantly, he has added significant value by combining creative commercial property strategies and business buying strategies. Working with existing property investors and SSAS Pension owners. Dan helps accelerate your income, grow your wealth and reclaim your time to live life on your terms. Dan believes acquisitions are simply the fastest route to create cash flow and generational wealth. Dan loves to help investors create cash flow and grow their wealth by investing with him. In this episode, Pete speaks to Cara Macklin, an entrepreneur and success coach. Cara grew up in a family business in Northern Ireland in hotels and care homes. She became a director of this business for 15 years until she left to create her own business last year. Today Pete and Cara discuss change, development, business and mindset. KEY TAKEAWAYS Cara has a typical entrepreneurial mindset. She has always looked at change in a positive way and had big ideas and plans. She is constantly looking at what is next, for herself, her business and her clients. Cara has always been unique and an individual. She wished we lived in a culture where people were allowed to just be themselves and were celebrated for their differences. We know human beings are different so why do we try to put them in a system to all be the same. Cara believes everyone has a Fire in the belly, either they haven’t found it yet or it has been put out by another person. To Cara it means a drive and something that has power over you. It can be an incredible force to help you make a positive change in the world but you must be careful because it can also burn you out. Cara believes that if you help people on your team to be the best they can and support them through development then that will strengthen your ability as a leader and make your business more successful. As children we are all creative, but as we become adults our creativity is stifled, by schooling, linear learning and the hierarchy. This then carries on into the world of work, people have incredible ideas but creativity is a muscle and a skill, if you don’t use it you lose it. Creativity isn’t just about the ‘big ticket ideas’. It comes down to a micro level throughout all teams and people. It’s a mindset and a culture that is created to allow people to explore ideas, innovate and thrive. Many of you listening will know Rob as The Disruptive Entrepreneur, but what you might not know is his background in Art. Today he is joined by Lesley Samms, owner of PURE Arts Group and together they discuss how you can turn your creativity in either art or business, into cashflow. Discover today how those in the art industry have more in common with entrepreneurs than you might think, why it is important to utilise online platforms to sell your products and how powerful it is to empower people through your art. KEY TAKEAWAYS Being an entrepreneur is a very creative pursuit. Arty people and commercial people have more in common than you may first realise or admit. At art school, you are not taught sales and marketing. You are taught how to be creative, however, you are not taught the business of art. The ideal venture is one where you get to express yourself through a clear vision and by your values. Creating products, services and solutions that you feel inspired to create that are equally useful or solve problems in a market place. Any artist who is not selling their work online needs to make sure they start. Make sure your full portfolio is online and you can take commissions and requests online. Anything that creates digital art has got to be the present and the future. The good things about NFT's that are minted are that you also have the original whereas if you put an image up by yourself, anyone can take it. Be careful not the be the stereotypical ‘struggling artist'. You can make great art without punishing yourself or being broken. It is a myth that you have to be like that. You could even create Art just for you, sometimes it is nice just to create work for yourself. Tell great stories through your art and make people feel something. Your art should create emotions and make people feel something because people will easily forget what you told them but they will never forget how you made them feel. If your art can create emotions, then just like your service in the business industry, you are onto something. BEST MOMENTS “My creative side came through my entrepreneurial ventures.” “Make Art your business.” “I'm subordinating myself and I will never really express who I am.” “Who cares what anyone else thinks?” ABOUT THE GUEST Philanthropist and advocate for all those aspiring toward self-actualisation. Passionate about the arts, mental health and well-being, Lesley aims to make a difference. Lesley has a background in finance, marketing and branding and an MSc in International Event management from Brighton University. For the past 20 years, she has focused primarily on the contemporary art sector and has a respected reputation for event delivery, writing, curation, professional development, mentoring and coaching in both the private and funded arenas and across all business sectors. She successfully completed her professional NLP training in 2019 and is a member of ANLP. She is the Founder and Managing Director of PURE Arts Group, which supports artists in their professional development and career progression through a system of PURE Arts Clubs, mentoring, coaching, exhibitions and events. She helps creatives explore and uncover the possibilities and opportunities hidden within themselves, inspiring confidence, a growth mindset and a positive outlook. She advocates for women and young people, actively seeking out opportunities to challenge belief systems that limit their potential. It's important that you do due diligence whatever the size of the deal Financial, legal and commercial due diligence must be at the centre of any business deals if you want to make sure you don't get caught out and Shaz covers the key aspects of good due diligence and a timely reminder that due diligence is about buyer beware. This is a great opportunity to hear about the best ways to get due diligence covered well when you are buying any business. KEY TAKEAWAYS Financial due diligence should always be completed – you should go back at least 3 years and also look at the prospective numbers going forward. Your accountant will work with you on the financial due diligence looking at the numbers, tax and accountability in detail. Legal due diligence – work with a solicitor who specialises in this area or has extensive experience in buying and selling businesses. Commercial due diligence - know what is going on in your industry, what your competitors are doing. Spend time looking and researching exactly what's going on in the marketplace If the seller can't answer all the questions then you are not buying what you thought you were buying and there is the possibility of negotiating a lower price Make sure you never buy a business without doing your due diligence or you will get caught out BEST MOMENTS ‘My solicitor sent me a checklist with 138 different points they look at closely' ‘Don't skimp on fees for due diligence' ‘The bigger the deal the further into the future you will go with the numbers' VALUABLE RESOURCES shaz@aaa-accountants.co.uk ABOUT THE HOST Shaz Nawaz is a serial entrepreneur; he owns five thriving businesses in diverse sectors. If you learn how to maximise your cash flow, reduce your debt, save and create residual income then you are successfully playing the game of money and everything becomes much easier. KEY TAKEAWAYS The only way to live the life you want is to put your vision front and centre of what you do It always comes down to values It's about having an agenda for your life You can find opportunities to feed your soul if you know what feeds your soul It's about knowing yourself We are all human and on the same level but we have different perspectives The only opinion that matters is yours Money is neutral and it is there if you want it in your life When you understand how to play the game of money everything becomes much easier Financial independence is when work is an option for you. Maximise your cash flow and understand your impact amount, the amount you can put to best You should maximise your cash flow, reduce your debt, save and create residual income. Debt is a tool that you can use to work for you. Financial independence is about your emotional well-being and there is performing and non-performing debt There is a relationship between our health and our finances, how we look after ourselves is a reflection of how we look after our wealth We are all in life together and coming together and creating community is what makes the difference. BEST MOMENTS ‘My personal values are freedom, love and authenticity' ‘You are worthy because you've been born' ‘There is power and freedom in understanding your own story' ‘Every day you are building wealth' VALUABLE RESOURCES Business, Wealth and Mindset podcast series ABOUT THE GUEST Hi! I'm Holly! In my twenties, despite being a high-earner I found myself living paycheck to paycheck and massively in debt. After doing “mental accounting” for a number of years, I finally decided to put a pen to paper and discovered I had $67,000 in credit card debt. When I called my financial advisor to ask for help, he asked me how much more money I wanted to invest each month. Was he not listening? I didn't have any money to invest! I knew in that moment that there had to be another way to build wealth. I devoted the next year to learning everything I could about debt-elimination, wealth-building, and the economy. I read hundreds of personal finance books, went to money and investing seminars, took courses, and interviewed financial experts. She created a system, now known as the Financial Impact system, and three years later she was debt-free. She didn't stop there, and in her thirties, she reached financial independence. Holly began teaching personal finance in 2006 to young adults as a service project with Rotary International. In 2008, she received the prestigious “Rotarian of the Year” award for her work in financial literacy. After a successful career in real estate and finance, and with a passion for lifestyle design, financial independence, and mindful living, Holly founded Financial Impact in 2016. Holly is Accredited Financial Counselor® and is recognized for her unique approach to money, which reinforces core values while creating wealth. For those of you wanting to create an established and successful podcast or even just hear about someone who has, look no further as Rob is joined by award winning podcast ‘Entrepreneurs On Fire' host and industry legend John Lee Dumas. Together they discuss the importance of creating a niche podcast, how to stand out in a saturated market and the stages of success. KEY TAKEAWAYS Most podcasters believe that the wider they throw their net the more fish they will catch. Whilst this works in the ocean, it does not work in the podcasting world. You need to create a niche and specific podcast that is the best solution to one real problem in the world. You will be able to create a loyal community of fans who you are able to serve to an amazing, high level. The ‘prodcasters' have arrived aka the professional podcasters. Back in 2012, there were no professional podcasters, only amateurs. Now the podcast industry is being funded by large sums of money and huge corporations such as Amazon, Google and Apple are getting involved. Many people are turning to the podcasting genre. Gross revenue is great, but anybody can spend $6 Million and make $5 million, the real hard work is making a net profit. Net profit is the lifeline of all businesses, how much money are you able to put into the bank at the end of every month that you can then re-invest? Lifestyle freedom is what you want. Lifestyle freedom is the freedom to live your life, on your terms doing what you want whilst helping the causes that you want. Successful entrepreneurs are amazingly productive. Productive entrepreneurs are people that produce the right work. People who are not successful are always busy, they think they're productive but they do not get anything tangible done. You need to create your own big idea. It is so critical that people take a step back and learn how to eloquently and intentionally think and talk about what their big idea is in this world. Successful entrepreneurs know how to generate traffic and understand how to gain followers, listeners and fans. There are many people who create high quality content but do not know how to make it reach the masses and gain gumption to make it a success. BEST MOMENTS “My barrier was so high and my competition was so low that I was able to remain as the only game in town for a really long time.” “So much money is pouring into the podcasting game.” “I won and I'm still winning today.” “Every single person wants lifestyle freedom” ABOUT THE GUEST John Lee Dumas is an American podcaster, internet personality and entrepreneur. In this podcast, Rob speaks to Kay Hallinan a British expat who is a director of OAT Properties Ltd. Despite living in Singapore, she and her husband have still been able to build and run a UK-based property investment portfolio. Kay explains how she has used technology and networking to overcome the issues they faced. As well as how they get mortgages despite being expats which has helped them to continue to diversify their property portfolio. Kay also speaks about how she handled the fact that her husband was at one stage worried about investing in UK property. They also share their take on where the property market is likely to go over the next few years. Sign Up For MSOPI Here: https://bit.ly/msopi-nomad KEY TAKEAWAYS Living abroad is not an insurmountable barrier to investing in property in the UK. It helps to have someone in the UK to look at and check out properties for you. Diversifying your portfolio is essential, but you need to be particularly careful with your research. If you are an expat you will typically have to pay more for a mortgage. But, in time, you can get the rates down. Using a portfolio mortgage provider makes life a lot easier, but you do need to do your research carefully. Using sourcing agents can work but finding one that does not fluff the numbers and actually offers value is not easy. Expats need to bear in mind potential extra costs – for example, some countries charge a surcharge for foreign investors. Use social media to learn about property investment in the country you are thinking of investing in. BEST MOMENTS ‘My father-in-law lived close to the investment area we were interested in. So, we use him to view for us.' ‘Expats generally have to pay more for our mortgages than if we were living and working in the UK.' ‘We managed to secure a portfolio lending. It´s not exactly portfolio but it's a much better rate.' Alex is with Nick Tarascio CEO and founder of Ventura Air Services. They discuss in depth his journey from learning to fly through to using his ‘pilot mindset' in the business arena. A pilot mindset is focused on immediate response problem solving and situational awareness and Nick has effectively used this approach to grow Ventura and shares his philosophy with other entrepreneurs and business owners. KEY TAKEAWAYS It was taking the experiences from being a pot and using them elsewhere in my life The piloting mindset gave me the power to face my fears and move forward When you don't know your ‘what' go back to your values and your ‘how'. Figure out how you want to show up in the world and do it to the best of your ability every day. I wanted to build an aviation company that allows people who have a passion for flying to be in an environment that is bold and daring Always have the destination in mind and understand what it is that you want to achieve. Be clear about who you are, what you want to change and the work you will need to put in. Planning is key and using a flight plan approach means you can create a plan that accounts for the challenges along the way. You have to get going in one direction and with focus. Define what is important, your success criteria, and measure these constantly. Make small corrections throughout the journey to ensure you stay on course. BEST MOMENTS ‘My flight plan means you can move around the issues with a solid plan based in reality' ‘On my sixteenth birthday flying solo, I was in control of my destiny' ‘Flying was 3-dimensional freedom' VALUABLE RESOURCES Business, Wealth and Mindset podcast series ABOUT THE GUEST Nick Tarascio - CEO at Ventura Air Services, New York City ‘Flying is one of my passions; I have been a licensed pilot since I was 16, certified to fly jets, turboprops, and piston aircraft. My additional experience includes that as a certified aircraft mechanic, avionics technician, and as an aircraft sales executive. I employ the "pilot mindset" to manage and grow Ventura's business. This approach incorporates rigorous training, situational awareness, and on-the-spot problem-solving. Leading the company with this mindset gives it a unique advantage that sets us apart from the competition while providing numerous benefits for our clients. I enjoy speaking on this topic and imparting my "pilot mindset" philosophy with business owners, entrepreneurs, and trade groups. Ventura Air Services was founded by my father more than three decades ago. Today we operate and maintain a growing fleet of jets with a focus on business and leisure travel services throughout North and South America and the Caribbean. We have access to aircraft of all sizes to meet our client's local or global travel needs. We have established Ventura as the preferred "on-call" provider among several major New York-area hospital systems for the transport of medical organ transplant teams that fly to hospitals in advance of life-saving surgeries. To succeed in our sector, we have built a company culture centred around "operational excellence." Our team of more than 45 employees includes pilots, maintenance personnel, and travel and customer service representatives who passionately embrace this commitment to excellence. The media often calls on me for comments or interviews on industry trends and related topics. Among those outlets include Fortune, HuffPost, Business Insider, Newsday, and Aviation Pros, and I have appeared on BBC Television. Despite the belief that owning a plane is just for celebrities or the uber-rich, I authored the book "Own Your Own Plane: It Costs Less Than You Think" to help people develop financial strategies for using aircraft as business and investment tools. This remarkable guide provides the tools and information necessary to enjoy the exhilarating and surprisingly cost-effective freedom of unrestricted flight. My other passion is music. I am a musician, songwriter, and performer, and play several instruments. I have released three albums to date, and continue to write new music. Too many L&D teams still only expect their digital offering to supplement face-to-face and drive engagement as an end in itself. But that's no longer enough. The opportunity now is to influence performance and therefore results. Peter Manniche-Riber challenges himself to do this and in this episode he shares the method he uses to have a different type of conversation with stakeholders and build solutions that make the difference. KEY TAKEAWAYS Far too many people are still focused upon how learning and development can be restricted, limited and measured. The task ahead is to better educate stakeholders about true people development. Many in the L&D sector are generally anxious about actually leaving our environments in order to find out what people need. But by doing so we can better identify solutions. There is a shift from learning objectives to performance outcomes. We need to encourage discussion about what people should do differently and how we measure this, and what the impact is. The future of development relies on listening to, and understanding, our people. We can do this by employing in-house analysis, to find out what people are talking about, praising and unhappy with. BEST MOMENTS ‘My work is not a “tick the box” exercise. It's about people. It's about learning' ‘What do you want people to think, feel and do, on the other side of what it is you want to achieve?' ‘If you don't know what people care about, then you don't know what the solution is' ‘I haven't come across one piece of effective e-learning that made a difference' VALUABLE RESOURC ES The Learning And Development Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-learning-development-podcast/id1466927523 ABOUT THE GUEST Peter is Head of Digital Learning at Novo Nordisk and an advocate of solutions that work predominantly for the learner. Gavan is being interviewed by John Paul Taggart and Sean Grant on their show, Culture Talks. They discuss what leadership really is and why building something for the future every day can be the key to lifelong fulfilment. The journey in business is never linear and this is a great opportunity to hear about some of the challenges that have to be faced and what a positive driver the right culture is, in any business. Having been mentees of Gavan, Sean and John Paul have some great questions about inspiration, leadership and building a plan for succession and the answers don't disappoint. KEY TAKEAWAYS As a barrister, there is a limit to what you can achieve and I wanted to achieve more and leave a legacy. The fun is always in the building and when it gets to a stage where it's just maintaining I'm bored with it. I wanted to spend my life building something – with both its highs and lows. When I started in business there was a bullying culture and it was the first thing I had to face and deal with. One person can keep everyone else down in a bullying culture We took on stores that had been through some sort of trauma – no culture, absent management. Everyone is different. Contentment for one person will not be contentment for another and not everyone is looking for inspiration. Whatever people choose to do if it brings them happiness and contentment then it is right for them. If you can inspire someone to be more than they thought they could be then you are a true leader Having identified that I needed to build a management team the challenge was to attract and recruit the best managers. I needed people who were self-motivated and liked mentorship as an approach rather than to be managed. BEST MOMENTS ‘My approach is if you do the right thing and bring it every day you can help people' ‘I'm stronger on the aspirational aspects of management' ‘When I peeled back the layers I found great people' VALUABLE RESOURCES Speed Mentor Podcast Gavan Wall website Culture Talks Episode 8 YouTube Culture Talks Episode 9 YouTube Developing Young People Core Impact Website Sean Grant LinkedIn John Paul Taggart LinkedIn ABOUT THE HOST Welcome to the Speed Mentor Podcast. Are you your own worst critic? Do you always see the bad in what you've created rather than the good? Learn today why you and many other entrepreneurs feel this way and why you have to stop hating on yourself! Learn the importance of giving yourself a pat on the back and acknowledging your success and why sharing it with others is not a bad thing. KEY TAKEAWAYS Realistically, As an entrepreneur you are going to get hate, criticism from trolls and competitors, however, this hate doesn't compare to the hate that you give yourself. Many entrepreneurs are committed to a lifelong journey of personal development and growth, yet they often hate on themselves. Every time you beat yourself up, lift yourself up. Whenever you critique your work, look for something you also did well in. Whenever you put yourself down for not having a particular skill or talent, look at the skills you do have and what you have already achieved with them. Honour who you are, and give yourself credit for both the small and the big wins, pick out your strengths and be kind to yourself by forgiving yourself and not comparing yourself to others. Don't be ashamed to share your success. Facts are facts and you are not bragging when you are sharing facts. Your followers and clients want to know what you're good at, if they don't they won't use your product or service as they won't know your success. BEST MOMENTS “My haters don't hate on me, they hate on a version of me that they think they understand, but they don't.” “You have gifts, skills and talents as an entrepreneur otherwise you wouldn't be on the journey that you're on.” “If you cannot pat yourself on the back, and acknowledge your strengths, then you will be cursed as an entrepreneur.” VALUABLE RESOURCES https://robmoore.com/ ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor, and property educator. Welcome back! In todays conclusion of last weeks fantastic deep dive, Pete and Gavan talks us through his transition from law to property to his new project of venture capitals as well as talking us through some of his personal struggles with the economic crash in 2007 and how he took himself from losing everything to being the success he is today. KEY TAKEAWAYS Q. Whilst you were working in law did you still continue your side hustles? A. I was up to 50 houses, what happened was in 2006, I had gone from double-digit yields to getting outbid all the time by people who had never been in property before and I could not face giving up the business side. My mistake was saying, I need to get into the chain earlier, to feed properties to these people so I bought four bits of land and I got my planning through but I made a few mistakes, signed personal guarantee and 14-day demand loans. My wife somehow ended up as a guarantor on one of them! That land lost 90% of its value and one of the local banks served me with a demand notice, so I then lost everything including my family home. Q. How has your parenting style changed over the years? A. My parenting style is based on looking back on mine. My Dad was so old school he wasn't very touchy-feely or anything like that so you kind of fill the void. I work really hard so I might not have as much time as some others, but I work on that time and the love and connectedness is really important to me. I was to be able to have the social capital to see if they are going off the rails and be able to have a conversation with them and they will listen and I can help them. Whereas I would say my Dad didn't have that social capital with me because that bond hadn't been built to be able to help me when I needed it. Q. What would it mean, someone saying you've got something you shouldn't have? A. I don't really know, I've got something about it. My wife sometimes talks about doing the lottery, and I say to her “you can't do that, what if we won?” because then that would ruin the whole thing, somebody would be able to say we had it easy. Whenever we used to drive to school in my Dad's car, there were only two of these cars in Northern Ireland and in one way it was lovely and in another way it was too much. I want to be able to say, everything that I have created with the support of my wife and my family has been created by us rather than come from someone else. Q. You come across as quite kinesthetic? Wanting to feel that that success is yours? A. That maybe comes from all the stuff I was discussing before my Dad. If I make a mess, I will be the first person to put my hands up and say “I've made a mess” and the way that you fail, people take shortcuts when they're starting to fail. The way that you fail is important to how you'll come back. Q. You mention being lucky, with your wife and kids. Where does luck come in it for you? A. Comparison is the thief of joy, but I say that because I know that I met her at the right time. I do the work just in time, to help myself. I use the word blessed maybe sometimes rather than luck. It is probably not luck, I do push away the success a bit sometimes. I don't like people thinking that I think that I haven't achieved it on my own. I feel blessed. Q. What drives you day today? A. The goal is to have an impact worldwide, the goal is to be the most successful entrepreneur in Northern Ireland. What is success? Success is the ability to be able to make a difference to other people. I am not money-driven, I took my first ever holiday for ten days last year. When I was a barrister I used to go on nice expensive holidays and drive a Porsche, now I drive an electric car and I am happy with that. I don't go on flash holidays or spend lots of money, the difference is being able to make a difference, the ability to say I have helped the ecosystem in Northern Ireland. I wasn't Northern Ireland to be backed like it was in the industrial revolution. I want to help Northern Ireland get back to that, and I want to have a massive funeral. I want to have made an impact on so many people and to have changed Northern Ireland for the better. Q. Are you at your potential do you think? A. No, there is loads more potential. I actually had imposter syndrome for the first time ever at the tail end of 2019. There is new stuff that was done with venture capital that is so outside of my comfort zone. The amount of stuff that I have learned over the last year from startups and from other people that I am meeting and you're going into those sessions, and you're soaking it up like a sponge because you're being exposed to new ideas about how you look at a business cycle or business plan. In terms of potential, the look was trying to raise ten million pounds for the change, and create ten billion from that and I am not that far in my journey in comparison to what we are trying to achieve, so loads more to come. Q. Do you see yourself retiring? A. No, I will die in the middle of a deal! The best deal ever. I was thinking about all the things I have done since I turned 45 for the first time, definitely not retiring no way. I've done a lot of heavy lifting, and I will tell you my theory and it was a moment of clarity “it is all about creating value, with the power of the mind”. That's true. The lifting that you do with your mind created more value than the physical stuff you do out there in the world. Q. When are you at your best? What is your peak performance? A. At the minute, it is a little bit crimped. I do love trying to show other people what they can achieve, but the intensity of what they were doing at the minute because it's all so new to me, meaning I am not at my best. It is coming back a little bit better, but at the minute I am not at my best because of the workload we have to find all these startups and investments to get the FCA compliance. So all of that and the intensity to deliver that is a pretty heavy burden at the minute. Whenever we get over these hurdles and were up and running, the best of me will be back, but the ability to never give up and to dig in, that is a strong part of me. I like to show people a strong leadership and I'm not sure if I have enough of that in me at the moment because of the pressures. Q. What do you think people's perceptions of you are? A. I know what they say about me, “He thinks he is just going to walk into the venture capital startup world?” “He just walks in and that's the way that he does stuff, he just pivots out of something else and he is just a shopkeeper”. What they don't really know is that maybe their perception of me but that is not really what I am like. So I am listening to less personal development stuff at the moment because I am listening to stuff about venture capital and about startups because I know that I don't know it. I may be a bit of a peacock walking it but I am trying to learn because I want to learn it. The people that are throwing the darts at me probably haven't had as much success as they think they should've had because they're not prepared to do the work that I am. BEST MOMENTS “My rise and success wasn't lucked” “To have made such a difference, those other people say ‘I want to make a difference'” “It is all about creating value, with the power of the mind” “You can't expect to go into something new and be really good at it” ABOUT THE HOST Welcome to the Speed Mentor Podcast. This week, Kevin has come to Manchester to join the fun behind the scenes of the now-underway Strictly Come Dancing Tour, with Stacey Dooley! Stacey talks about the difference between rehearsals and live shows (and why the latter is actually easier), the downsides of social media interaction, and the importance of living in the moment. Kevin also talks about the preparations he's currently working through for the upcoming opening of his news stage show, 'The Wedding Singer'. KEY TAKEAWAYS During rehearsals, Stacey felt incredibly nervous, but as soon as the live shows, the nerves seemed to evaporate. It seems to get easier once the audience are in attendance, which is rather surreal. Stacey's confidence has grown since the shows began. With confidence comes comfort, and so with each successive date, the atmosphere of enjoyment and camaraderie has increased. The best part of the tour is that everyone has come to be entertained. The competition aspect is secondary to the “night out” atmosphere. After a recent experience on social media, Kevin has become increasingly frustrated by the rudeness and impoliteness of social media users, who seem to think that it's okay to insult the people he loves. The worst part is that responding to such comments generally results in indignant behaviour from the original commenter. Having an opinion on something is very different from the choice to state that opinion, especially if it's a hurtful one. Why do people feel the need to go out of their way to make hurtful comments? What do they hope to achieve by doing so? Kevin is finding the entire process of rehearsals for The Wedding Singer to be a very creative environment. He credits the people he's working with as the reason for this, as their talents are allowing his creativity to thrive. By concentrating too much on what might happen in the future, or the outcome, you will miss out on the moment. We need to ensure that we live in the moment, and that we don't dwell too much on the past or future. The Wedding Singer has been such a joyous experience to prepare for, that Kevin has been unable to think about anything but the moment, and has therefore seen his anxiety and stress levels decline spectacularly. A lot of people can seem and look happy and bubbly externally but when it comes down to how they're actually feeling, more and more people are struggling with negative emotions which can spiral into things such as depression. So in this episode, Rob discusses how he manages his emotions in a positive, productive way that also uplifts him when he is struggling himself. KEY TAKEAWAYS The more people I talk to recently are struggling with the loneliness, challenges, anxiety and depression. All of these things can come from comparing yourself to others. All of the challenges that make you feel unmotivated and not want to do anything within business and life that aren't extreme is what we're dealing with in this episode. If you're feeling any of these negative emotions, try to convert the strong feelings into something productive. It can really end lifting you up. My podcast, coaching calls, books and work essentially is the way I turn around that force into something productive. I know that no matter how bad my day has been; I know I can turn it into something great. I often even find that the worse time I'm having, the better I am as a mentor, coach, leader, creator etc... There is way more people struggling that we realise and I think we need to spread the word a lot more so please share this. It's ok to share how you're feeling. BEST MOMENTS ‘My art and work and business is also my therapy' ‘Energy can't be created or destroyed, it just changes form' ‘End the day on something positive.' ‘You can convert your pain into your brand' VALUABLE RESOURCES Progressive Property ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is an author of 9 business books, 5 UK bestsellers, holds 3 world records for public speaking, entrepreneur, property investor and property educator. Managing money is one of the most vital skills anyone can learn in life, but it's so often neglected in our school system. Rob talks through his step by step process for getting out of debt and into the green. As a guest on the Meaningful Money podcast Rob talks through how you should never spend more than you earn, you should know the difference between investing and speculating, and finally how to create some passive income. If you're in debt and want a way out into the green, this is the episode for you. Key Takeaways How did you get to this point? My dad raised me to be an entrepreneur as he was an entrepreneur but I got lost. I got myself into a lot of debt but then went along to a business, property event after reading a few books and met my business partner who I still work with today. After that, I became a millionaire between 31/31, and we built a training business in property. Each time I've retired I get bored, start doing other things like writing books and doing my podcast. What is your goal for this free content that you give away? Everyone has always said that you can talk, so if you can talk and make a career out of it that would be amazing. I genuinely enjoy talking and getting a message out to the world by helping others. I've learnt a lot of things in my journey and I want to support others to learn from my journey. It's also a good source of revenue, in books sales, and speaker fees. What was the core message of your book ‘Money'? It's part, my personal journey out of debt into being a multi-millionaire and part is research, and study into different aspects of history, psychology and strategy of money. I wanted it to be everything about money, a one-stop shop if you like. If you are too selfish then society will force you to move into philanthropy or something else. If there was one overarching rule for money? The one rule is ridiculously simple, which is to never spend more money than you earn. In a modern world where we wrack up debt which is not good for anyone's mental health. Wealth is always in relation to wellbeing. In a pilot for a Channel Four show where I was a money coach, the people on the show were completely delusional around how much money they spent each month. People always pay everyone else first before paying themselves which is wrong. You should always pay yourself first. The No Spend Year. Not spending money on depreciable liabilities, where it erodes capital is key to getting out of debt. It's about proving you can be disciplined with the money that you have. You shouldn't be going on three holidays a year if you can't afford to. You have to learn not to spend money on things that lose value. What are the sources of passive income? Some people see passive income as an overnight thing. You have to work hard enough to not have to work hard. Residual passive income could be anything from a song, or a book or property. It's a thought process really around how you can buy an asset that pays a recurring income. Some assets provide passive income with some just preserve capital. You have to target date when you spend less than you earn. Once you have gotten out of debt you should move to increase the amount that you can save. There are ways that you can think of reducing your expenditure but also ways that you can increase your income. I never spend more than I earn unless I put capital into an investment. Max out your ISA. There are some ISA millionaires, where they put the maximum in their ISA's every year. It's all tax-free. You should target to invest the maximum amount in the ISA and you will get rewarded through the tax system. It's so simple. You want to build your capital reserves. People can make a lot of money and then erode their capital rather than preserve it. You should take some calculated risk but have the downside covered. You shouldn't take big risks that you can't cover. A calculated risk is investing in something that is relatively safe and protecting the downside. If we were to have a JV to manage a property together, then the protecting downside would be around having a charge or contract together. Emotions can really ruin money management. The things that we regret in life are the ones where we are in an emotional state when we do them. I'm interested in a sustainable long term wealth, not overnight quick wins. You can spend lots of money celebrating in elation and through sadness. Make sure you do the research into an important investment decision. Did you ever wonder whether you would have made it? I'm not always a positive person. I've had periods in my life where I've been a glass half empty. You don't realise the ten-year overnight success and the hours that have gone into it. Things don't happen overnight, but if you consistently do the right things then things will happen. How to start, scale and dominate on social media? Social media is the cheapest and best way to grow your business. Those businesses and personalities who are dominating social media are the ones who are dominating business. Rob talks through the different ways you can transform your strategies to enhance your reach, leads and sales. Increasing your content, getting over your phobias, and learning to leverage your posts on all your platforms. If you aren't taking advantage of social media in your business, this is the podcast for you. Key Takeaways Why wouldn't you want to leverage social media? Kids don't use email anymore, they use Whatsapp, and other forms of social media to communicate. Social media is just a mechanism for communication, like ten years ago when we were gathering emails for email marketing. I do not use social media a lot because I intended to, but because it gives me the reach I need to grow my business. Set Up all your platforms. Have a Facebook, LinkedIn, podcasts and others all set up. It depends on your business model on which ones you use. If you are a visual business like cake making then you might want to use Instagram or Pinterest. Facebook now, is more of an older demographic compared with Snapchat or Instagram. You can ask an outsourcer to set up all this for you, so you can copy and paste the content from different platforms. Get your platforms populated. You need to make sure that they are built up. Whether its adding photos on your Facebook page or your career history on LinkedIn, make sure they look like credible pages. You can get an outsourcer to collate all this into one word document so when you set up a new platform, it is all in one place. Increase the amount of content you put out. Whatever your doing you should start increasing the number of content. Quality is better than quantity, but often the algorithms work best when you put out a lot of content. Then you will be getting a large amount of reach. Everyone can increase their amount of content. The best way to do this is to repurpose your content, so my Facebook lives, can be added to Facebook groups, made into a podcast and drip fed over various different platforms. Plan content marketing. Compartmentalise 15-30 minutes a week/day to create and deliver your content marketing. If I have the time or have random ideas when you have the energy just make a note of them all in one place. Pick out things during your day that might be of interest to your followers and clients, note them down. In the end, you'll have a bank of ideas for podcasts etc. Place the work out there without worrying about it being too polished. When you get the feedback from people, take it on and change it for future content. If you are credible then you won't necessarily have to plan. You can find content from your community by asking them. You can do bits of different research on Google, and Twitter, for larger more in-depth pieces. This could be a top ten list, and bullet points these are a good way of planning. Place this right behind the camera so you can see it without looking away from the camera. This means that your not bumbling live in front of an audience. Overcoming fears, and phobias of putting yourself out there. You don't know what the best content is until people feedback on it. For every one critic, you'll have 100 fans. Social media is free so why not use it for your business if it's going to increase your reach. What's the worst that's going to happen? No one will remember if it goes wrong. Video/podcasts can always be edited. You need to have a variety of content. Mixing up images, videos, quotes and case studies are a good way of ensuring that you produce a variety of content. Start a debate on a controversial topic or news-jack a viral story to increase your followers. Use your platforms to grow your other platforms. Grow your different platforms through your other platforms. I talk about my Facebook live's on my podcast. Ask your listeners or viewers to follow your other platforms. Best Moments ‘My social media following is growing 600 people a day without ads.' ‘It's a frictionless way of getting reach into people.' ‘You should be focusing on the content. ARE IDEAS WITHOUT ACTION WORTHLESS? DESCRIPTION The Disruptive Entrepreneur – Rob Moore is sharing the value of ideas and the ways in which you can foster a great idea and then implement actions to achieve your desired outcome. This episode is an engaging and informative way to understand more about how to be open to ideas and the best way to take action with a good idea. KEY TAKEAWAYS Ideas Ideas sitting there in a meditative way are not going to bring the results you want. There has to be a certain amount of implementation action and testing. Bringing together people to brainstorm ideas and sharing ideas with each other can result in a great idea that is a hybrid of the other ideas. It's vital that you don't judge ideas or knock any idea down as often ideas can gestate and fertilise over time becoming something great. If you are not sure about an idea you can take some actions and view the action as a test then improve and iterate. This ensures that even if the initial action doesn't get the right result a later action will have the desired outcome. Mindless Action Mindless action without proper planning and good ideation can result in taking actions that leads you down the wrong road and will culminate in no results. The Value of Ideas Ideas do have a value without action as they can hybridise into another great idea that you act upon. Ideas can stay with you, gestate and inspire, in your mind and then when there is an opportunity you can take action. Mindless actions without planning and good gestation for ideas are worthless but once you do have the inspiration you need to take immediate action. BEST MOMENTS ‘My ideas are a hybrid, an amalgam of other ideas' ‘There are probably not that many revelatory ideas but there are lots of good ideas that are hybrids of other ideas' ‘Everyone has good ideas or dumb ideas that can be turned into good ideas' You don't need to be a genius to observe the masses, and do the opposite' ‘Constant conversations with people, be the student listening more than talking' VALUABLE RESOURCES https://itunes.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-disruptive-entrepreneur/id1076679649?mt=2 ABOUT THE HOST Rob Moore is the host of the UK's no. 1 business podcast “The Disruptive Entrepreneur,” as well as an entrepreneur, property investor, property educator, and holder of 3 world records for public speaking.
