What if the real risk of AI in schools isn't that it cheats - it's that it quietly switches off the parts of our brains we need most? In this episode, we sit down with Dr. Rob Wessman, VP of Ethics and Safety at School AI, to dig into one of the most important questions in education right now: are we building AI tools that develop young people, or tools that do the developing for them? With a background as a high school English teacher, school administrator, and Harvard EdLD graduate, Rob brings a genuinely human lens to the world of edtech and a compelling case for why getting this right matters more than getting it fast. We cover:- The MIT study that showed students struggling to think for themselves after outsourcing their essays to AI- Why School AI's research shows a 28% boost in higher-order reasoning - and how design makes the difference- The deskilling risk hiding in plain sight (and what endoscopy doctors can teach us about it)- Why banning AI in schools may be more dangerous than letting students use it unsupervised- The "agency with guardrails" challenge: how do you build tools that protect without limiting?- What Singapore's education ministry gets right — and why we should be paying attention- Why School AI removed their cute avatar and what it says about human-AI honesty Whether you're a school leader trying to make sense of AI policy, an educator worried about what students are losing, or just someone who wants the tech to actually serve learning, we think you'll like this one! Podcast: Tech Transformed podcastGuest: John Newton, Chief Innovation Strategist at HylandHost: Dana Gardner, President and Principal Analyst at Interabor SolutionsEnterprise leaders rushing to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their operations often think the biggest challenge is the technology itself. In reality, the issue is much closer to home. It's in the piles of unstructured enterprise data spread across documents, systems, and repositories. In the recent episode of the Tech Transformed podcast, John Newton, Chief Innovation Strategist at Hyland, sits down with host Dana Gardner, President and Principal Analyst at Interabor Solutions. They discussed how enterprises can unlock the full value of enterprise AI by addressing fragmented information and building stronger governance frameworks.Their conversation highlights that unstructured data is not an obstacle; it is the foundation for next-generation AI-driven productivity. As Newton stated, “The opportunity to truly use AI and use it effectively in your organisation really depends on that unstructured information.”For companies looking to adopt AI on a large scale, the real work is in organising and contextualising their internal knowledge. Is Unstructured Data the Hidden Fuel for Enterprise AI?Most enterprise data does not sit neatly in structured databases. Instead, it exists in contracts, reports, emails, videos, policies, and operational documents, creating a vast amount of unstructured content. The enormous amount of such unstructured data ends up creating a challenge for AI projects that rely solely on foundation models. Large language models (LLMs) may be trained on public data, but they cannot inherently access proprietary business intelligence.Newton argued that enterprise AI must therefore be built around internal knowledge systems. “Foundation models can't train on your internal information,” he explained. “What you really want is that information to be part of the AI when you're answering questions, doing research, or executing business processes.”This change requires organisations to rethink how information flows across the enterprise. Instead of isolated systems—CRM platforms, ERP databases, content repositories—companies need an interconnected information structure that connects multiple sources in real time.Such a structure enables AI systems and AI agents to find the right data at the right time. This also improves decision-making, automation, and operational intelligence. How to Reorganise Chaotic Unstructured Data?If unstructured data is the fuel, curation is the engine that drives effective AI. Newton emphasised that an enterprise data strategy must start with mapping, organising, and cleaning information assets. The aim is to reduce noise and increase clarity.“I like to look at things from a signal-to-noise perspective,” Newton says. “Curation is the key to removing uncertainty in the information.”The method could typically comprise a combination of several enterprise technologies such as content management platforms with business process management (BPM) and AI agents and LLMs.A pairing of the above strategies is aimed at helping enterprise data become more valuable. Enterprises can implement AI models to automate workflows, enhance knowledge discovery, and speed up processes across departments—from finance and manufacturing to customer operations.Importantly, Newton noted that this work also allows flexibility in the AI ecosystem. With a solid information foundation, companies can use open-source models, hyperscaler services, or internal AI deployments without tying themselves to a single vendor. In other words, an enterprise AI strategy should first focus on data readiness, not model selection.Key TakeawaysUnstructured data is the foundation for effective enterprise AI.Data curation improves AI accuracy and reduces information noise.Connecting enterprise systems enables AI to deliver real-time insights.AI guardrails help manage security, compliance, and data governance.AI automation boosts employee productivity by reducing repetitive work.Chapters00:00 Unlocking AI's Potential with Unstructured Data05:20 Signal to Noise: The Clarity Challenge11:21 Guardrails for AI: Balancing Control and Flexibility14:41 Harnessing the Enterprise Context Engine17:48 Real-World Applications: Case Studies in AI20:37 Curation: The Key to Effective Automation22:21 Future Business Value: Productivity and BeyondFor more information, please visit hyland.comTo stay updated on B2B Tech front and centre, follow EM360Tech:YouTube: @enterprisemanagement360LinkedIn: @EM360TechX: @EM360TechFollow Hyland on all its major platforms:YouTube: @HylandAILinkedIn: HylandX: @Hyland#UnstructuredData #EnterpriseAI #DataCuration #AIGuardrails #LLMs #AIAutomation #FragmentedData #InformationManagement #SignalToNoise #EnterpriseContext #TechTransformedPodcast #Hyland #B2BTech
Podcast: Don't Panic! It's Just DataGuest: Adrian Estala, VP, Field Chief Data & AI Officer, StarburstHost: Shubhangi Dua, Podcast Producer, Host and B2B Tech Journalist, EM360Tech"AI is replacing BI,” stated Adrian Estala, VP and Field Chief Data & AI Officer at Starburst. When Shubhangi Dua, host of Don't Panic, It's Just Data, put the statement back to Estala, the tension was intentional. In enterprise tech, few systems are as ingrained as business intelligence (BI) dashboards. For two decades, they have been the common language of decision-making – static reports, polished charts, and visuals that meet compliance standards. However, Estala insists that the change isn't about removing dashboards. It's about staying relevant. “BI isn't going away,” he explains. “It's evolving.”How AI is replacing BI?A transformation to AI begins with something deceptively simple – a business semantic layer. Instead of forcing executives to understand data through IT-designed schemas, enterprises are creating context-rich data products using business language. A CFO sees finance terms, not table joins. A loans team sees portfolios, not pipelines.Once this foundation is established, teams can plug the same governed, reusable data product into their business intelligene (BI) tools. This leads to improved performance and consistency rises too. However, the growth doesn't stop here; businesses typically ask for more. When a conversational agent is added next to a legacy dashboard, using the same trusted data product, the behaviour changes quickly. Leaders start asking questions in natural language, exploring trends they have never charted before. They make forecasts in seconds and adjust their thinking while on the go.What was once a static reporting experience transforms into an interactive analytical dialogue. In one major bank, Estala recalls, a CEO challenged himself to avoid opening a dashboard for two weeks. He didn't need to; the agent managed everything for him. Also Watch: Are You Scaling Intelligence — or Just Scaling Errors?TakeawaysAI is replacing BI, but it's more about evolution than replacement.Organisations are moving towards data products for better analytics.Engaging business teams early is crucial for successful AI implementation.Conversational agents are transforming how teams interact with data.Data quality and governance are essential in the transition to AI.Business semantic layers help bridge the gap between IT and business needs.Organisations can achieve significant impact with AI in a short time.Don't wait for perfect architecture; start with a Pathfinder approach.Business teams can drive innovation when they understand their data. The future of data engagement lies in combining AI with traditional BI tools.Chapters00:00 The Evolution of BI to AI03:11 Understanding AI's Role in Business Intelligence14:44 Navigating the Transition to AI20:03 Ensuring Data Quality and Governance24:44 The Future of Data EngagementTo learn more about how data products and AI agents are changing enterprise analytics, follow:Starburst LinkedIn: @StarburstStarburst X: @starburstdataStarburst YouTube: @StarburstDataEM360Tech YouTube: @enterprisemanagement360EM360Tech LinkedIn: @EM360TechEM360Tech X: @EM360TechFollow: @EM360Tech on YouTube, LinkedIn and XStay connected for more expert insights, podcast episodes, and enterprise data strategy discussions.#AI #BI #AIvsBI #AIAgents #BusinessIntelligence #DataProducts #EnterpriseAnalytics #DataStrategy #Starburst #DontPanicItsJustData #AdrianEstala #ShubhangiDua #SemanticLayer #CIO #CDO #TechPodcast #DataGovernance #Dashboards

Physical AI is arriving on factory floors ahead of schedule, and Vention is already deploying it on applications four automation integrators failed to crack.François Giguère, CTO of Vention, draws a precise line between agentic AI and physical AI. Agentic systems process data and return data. Physical AI controls motion and actuation that produce real world consequences on a factory floor where a hundred percent uptime is the only acceptable standard. Giguère has spent a decade helping build Vention, a platform that lets manufacturers design robotic cells in 3D, program them through natural language, simulate them in a browser, and receive the physical machine shipped in modular components like an industrial kit. With a team of 95 engineers and three years as CTO, he brings a grounded perspective on where AI delivers real value in industrial automation and where it still falls short. The design, automate, simulate workflow at Vention represents one of the most complete implementations of AI-powered machine engineering currently in production. In the design phase, customers build systems from a modular component library. In the automate phase, an AI agent converts natural language prompts into Python control code for the entire cell including robot arms, conveyors, vision systems, and grippers. The program is validated in simulation before a single component ships. This is made possible by Vention's motion streaming architecture: instead of treating the robot as the master controller the way KUKA KRL does, Vention brings all motion planning, inverse kinematics, forward kinematics, blending, and trajectory optimization into its own software stack. The robot becomes a passive component consuming a motion stream, and the entire machine becomes programmable from a single unified codebase that AI tools excel at generating. Giguère notes that Vention's choice to use Python as the programming language for automation control gives their AI tools a measurable edge over environments built on structured text or ladder logic.Vention's two physical AI products are GRIP (Generalized Robotics Intelligence Pipeline) and Rapid AI Operator, a modular bin picking application built on top of GRIP. The technology relies on transformer-based foundation models.About François GiguèreFrançois Giguère is the CTO of Vention, an industrial automation platform where manufacturers design, program, simulate, and deploy robotic systems entirely online. Employee number four at the company, he has contributed to Vention's growth for over 10 years and leads a team of 95 engineers. What if the real advantage in AI lies not in having more data, but in having less?In this episode of the Don't Panic, It's Just Data podcast, host Shubhangi Dua, Podcast Producer and B2B Tech Journalist at EM360Tech, sits down with Herb Blecher, Research Director of Data and Analytics at Enterprise Management Associates (EMA). This conversation challenges a common belief in enterprise tech – that gathering everything ensures insight. Blecher, alluding to the modern-day AI craze, cautions the enterprise audience that just because you can access vast amounts of unstructured data doesn't mean you should. What is the AI Gold Rush & Why It's Risky?Unstructured data now fills the enterprise tech space — voice calls, financial documents, customer chats, images, logs, and emails. “With AI and machine learning, we've finally figured out how to access and organise it.”However, Blecher offers a stark reality check. AI doesn't just increase insight; it increases error. When machines transition from calculating numbers to interpreting tone, images, and incomplete context, the chances for mistakes rise significantly. A blurry comma in a financial document, a misread abbreviation, a misplaced decimal. In low-stakes situations, this is inconvenient. In finance or healthcare, it can be disastrous. The danger lies not just in faulty outputs, but in confidently flawed outputs. AI doesn't hesitate as humans do. It doesn't say, “This seems off.” It fills in gaps, often convincingly. That confidence, Blecher argues, makes governance essential. The real issue companies face isn't a lack of data; it's a lack of careful thought. Also Read: AI is Making “As-Code” InevitableWhy Human-in-the-Loop is Imperative?Governance over hype is the key takeaway from the conversation. AI generating and using data at the same time creates a new situation. In the past, including financial troubles that Blecher experienced directly, human judgment acted as the final protection. Now, companies risk losing that safeguard in their rush to automate.Dua puts it simply – humans are leaders; AI is the helper. The enterprises that succeed with unstructured data aren't the fastest; they are the most thoughtful. They clearly define their questions first, build feedback loops, monitor continuously, and foster a culture of scepticism. What are the failures? They often look like ambitious automation without safeguards—from flawed document scanning to high-profile AI rollouts like McDonald's testing automated drive-through ordering, where conversational nuance proved more challenging than anticipated.Tone, ambiguity, and context remain distinguishing human areas. What Happens Five Years From Now?Will AI solve data quality issues? No, it will not. However, Blecher believes that data quality problems are here to stay. “What will change is the range of questions we try to answer. As AI develops, companies won't stop dealing with edge cases; they'll broaden the edge.”The future doesn't promise easy automation. It promises increased capability, increased capacity, along with increased responsibility. For CFOs and IT leaders investing in AI-driven data strategies, EMA's Research Director of Data and Analytics has a final message:Don't confuse volume with value.Don't replace governance with optimism.Don't give up scepticism in a gold rush.AI's potential is huge. But more data doesn't always mean better data. In a world eager to gather everything, restraint could be the most radical strategy of all.Key Takeaways More data doesn't guarantee better insights — clarity of purpose matters more than volume.AI doesn't just scale intelligence; it scales errors if governance is weak.Unstructured data is powerful, but without context and oversight, it becomes a liability.Human judgment remains essential — especially in high-stakes domains like finance and healthcare. The most successful organisations move deliberately, not impulsively, in the AI gold rush.Chapters00:00 Introduction to Data Quality and Its Importance02:43 The Rise of Unstructured Data05:42 Challenges in Ensuring Data Quality08:46 AI's Role in Data Quality Management11:30 Human Oversight in AI and Data Quality14:47 Opportunities in Data Quality17:32 Governance and Regulation in AI20:25 Real-World Applications and Case Studies23:27 Future of Data Quality and AI26:18 Key Takeaways for LeadersAbout Herb BlecherHerb leads EMA's Data and Analytics practice. In this episode of Manufacturing Hub, Vlad and Dave sit down with Travis Cox and Kevin McCluskey from Inductive Automation to unpack what was actually proven at ProveIt and why it matters for teams trying to modernize plants without building a fragile mess of point to point integrations. If you have ever looked at a shiny demo and wondered what the real architecture looks like, how it scales beyond a single line, and what it takes to roll out across multiple sites without turning every change into a high risk event, this conversation is for you.Travis and Kevin walk through their ProveIt Enterprise B build and the thinking behind it. The core idea is simple but powerful: treat the factory like a system that needs a shared digital infrastructure, built on open standards, where data is contextualized and reusable. They break down how they used Ignition Edge close to PLCs for resiliency, local HMIs, and disciplined data modeling, then moved data through MQTT into a Unified Namespace so multiple applications can consume the same trusted signals and context. This is the difference between “we can connect to anything” and “we can scale without rewriting everything every time the business changes.” Open standards show up repeatedly in the conversation because ProveIt is specifically designed to force interoperability and practical implementation tradeoffs. Inductive Automation has also written about ProveIt as a place where MQTT, OPC UA, and SQL show up as real foundations rather than slogans. From there, the episode gets into the part that should make both OT and IT teams pay attention: modern deployment practices applied to industrial applications. Kevin outlines a clear maturity path from a single designer workflow to version control, then to containerized deployments, and finally to full GitOps style promotion across dev, staging, and production using tools like Argo CD, Helm, Kubernetes, and release promotion concepts that look like what the software world has used for years. Argo CD is explicitly built around Git repositories as the source of truth for desired state, which is exactly why it fits this style of deployment. The live portion of the conversation demonstrates how fast this can get when the infrastructure is treated as code: they spin up a brand new “site four” by submitting a form, generating a pull request, merging it, and letting the pipeline do the rest.Timestamps00:00 Welcome back and why this ProveIt recap matters01:35 Meet Travis Cox and Kevin McCluskey from Inductive Automation03:10 What ProveIt is and the key vendor questions it forces05:20 Enterprise B architecture overview from PLC to Edge to site to enterprise07:30 HMI walkthrough across liquid processing, filling, packaging, palletizing09:05 Why deploy Ignition Edge instead of only a centralized site gateway12:05 Design once, reuse everywhere and what that means for scaling quickly14:35 On prem realities versus cloud infrastructure in the ProveIt environment17:10 MCP, n8n workflows, and bringing live operational context into AI20:40 i3X style API access to models, history, and alarms for interoperability23:15 GitHub, Docker Compose, Helm, Kubernetes, Argo CD, Cargo and GitOps promotion36:55 Spinning up a new site live and what it changes for multi site rolloutsAbout the hostsVlad Romanov is an electrical engineer and MBA who has spent over a decade building and modernizing manufacturing systems across industrial automation, controls, and plant operations. How much does audio really affect learning? And does it matter whether that voice is human or AI?In this episode, Matt sits down with Stephanie Warnoff, Senior Market Researcher at TechSmith, to walk through new research that looks at how audio quality and AI narration influence learning outcomes, perceived professionalism, and retention in instructional video. The study, conducted by TechSmith, was built around a simple experiment. Participants watched the same 45-second how-to video, with the visuals kept the same each time. The only variable was the audio. Viewers heard one of four versions: high-quality human narration, low-quality human narration, high-quality AI narration, and low-quality AI narration. What the team found was...surprising.Throughout the conversation, Matt and Stephanie explore what the results mean for teams creating training and instructional content, especially as AI tools become easier to access. This episode is part 1 of a two-part research series. Stay tuned for episode 2, where Matt and Stephanie take a closer look at the second half of the study, focusing on AI avatars, and how different avatar styles compare with human presenters in real learning contexts.Learning points from the episode include:00:00 - 01:19 Intro01:19 - 02:53 Stephanie's background02:53 - 04:59 TechSmith's research on AI voices04:59 - 06:14 The four audio versions used during the study and how the experiment was structured06:14 - 07:47 What surprised Stephanie about the AI voices07:47 - 10:58 Is there a need for disclosure with AI?10:58 - 15:37 Signals for high quality voices15:37 - 18:04 Why poor audio quality performed better than high audio quality18:04 - 20:34 Other considerations for effectiveness of learning through AI20:34 - 23:08 Future research23:08 - 26:22 Closing thoughts26:22 - 27:01 Stephanie's final take27:01 - 28:00 OutroImportant links and mentions:Connect with Stephanie: research@techsmith.comLearn more about the study in this blog post: https://www.techsmith.com/blog/ai-voices-avatars-in-training-videos/

In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom podcast, host Stewart Alsop sits down with Josh Halliday, who works on training super intelligence with frontier data at Turing. The conversation explores the fascinating world of reinforcement learning (RL) environments, synthetic data generation, and the crucial role of high-quality human expertise in AI training. Josh shares insights from his years working at Unity Technologies building simulated environments for everything from oil and gas safety scenarios to space debris detection, and discusses how the field has evolved from quantity-focused data collection to specialized, expert-verified training data that's becoming the key bottleneck in AI development. They also touch on the philosophical implications of our increasing dependence on AI technology and the emerging job market around AI training and data acquisition.Timestamps00:00 Introduction to AI and Reinforcement Learning03:12 The Evolution of AI Training Data05:59 Gaming Engines and AI Development08:51 Virtual Reality and Robotics Training11:52 The Future of Robotics and AI Collaboration14:55 Building Applications with AI Tools17:57 The Philosophical Implications of AI20:49 Real-World Workflows and RL Environments26:35 The Impact of Technology on Human Cognition28:36 Cultural Resistance to AI and Data Collection31:12 The Bottleneck of High-Quality Data in AI32:57 Philosophical Perspectives on Data35:43 The Future of AI Training and Human Collaboration39:09 The Role of Subject Matter Experts in Data Quality43:20 The Evolution of Work in the Age of AI46:48 Convergence of AI and Human ExperienceKey Insights1. Reinforcement Learning environments are sophisticated simulations that replicate real-world enterprise workflows and applications. These environments serve as training grounds for AI agents by creating detailed replicas of tools like Salesforce, complete with specific tasks and verification systems. The agent attempts tasks, receives feedback on failures, and iterates until achieving consistent success rates, effectively learning through trial and error in a controlled digital environment.2. Gaming engines like Unity have evolved into powerful platforms for generating synthetic training data across diverse industries. From oil and gas companies needing hazardous scenario data to space intelligence firms tracking orbital debris, these real-time 3D engines with advanced physics can create high-fidelity simulations that capture edge cases too dangerous or expensive to collect in reality, bridging the gap where real-world data falls short.3. The bottleneck in AI development has fundamentally shifted from data quantity to data quality. The industry has completely reversed course from the previous "scale at all costs" approach to focusing intensively on smaller, higher-quality datasets curated by subject matter experts. This represents a philosophical pivot toward precision over volume in training next-generation AI systems.4. Remote teleoperation through VR is creating a new global workforce for robotics training. Workers wearing VR headsets can remotely control humanoid robots across the globe, teaching them tasks through direct demonstration. This creates opportunities for distributed talent while generating the nuanced human behavioral data needed to train autonomous systems.5. Human expertise remains irreplaceable in the AI training pipeline despite advancing automation. Subject matter experts provide crucial qualitative insights that go beyond binary evaluations, offering the contextual "why" and "how" that transforms raw data into meaningful training material. The challenge lies in identifying, retaining, and properly incentivizing these specialists as demand intensifies.6. First-person perspective data collection represents the frontier of human-like AI training. Companies are now paying people to life-log their daily experiences, capturing petabytes of egocentric data to train models more similarly to how human children learn through constant environmental observation, rather than traditional batch-processing approaches.7. The convergence of simulation, robotics, and AI is creating unprecedented philosophical and practical challenges. As synthetic worlds become indistinguishable from reality and AI agents gain autonomy, we're entering a phase where the boundaries between digital and physical, human and artificial intelligence, become increasingly blurred, requiring careful consideration of dependency, agency, and the preservation of human capabilities.
In this episode of The Tech Leader's Playbook, Avetis Antaplyan sits down with Tamara Laine, investigative journalist turned two-time tech founder and the CEO and co-founder of MPWR. Tamara brings a rare blend of storytelling, emotional intelligence, and problem-spotting instincts into the world of AI and financial innovation — and in this conversation, she unpacks how those experiences shape the products she builds today.Tamara shares how her investigative background sharpened her ability to dig into root problems, challenge assumptions, and uncover overlooked patterns — skills she now uses to design user-centric, AI-powered solutions for financial inclusion. She opens up about the realities of being a gig worker, the challenges Gen Z faces in accessing credit, and how the traditional banking world is struggling to adapt to a rapidly changing workforce. The episode dives deep into EQ-driven leadership, ethical AI, community as a modern moat, and the rise of low-code tools that are simultaneously empowering founders while making markets noisier than ever. Tamara's insights on responsible innovation, founder resilience, and building tech that actually solves human problems make this a powerful, thought-provoking conversation for today's leaders.TakeawaysInvestigative journalism taught Tamara to identify real problems, ask better questions, and challenge assumptions — essential skills for founders.Curiosity is becoming a competitive advantage in tech, not just a personality trait.Emotional intelligence is now a top leadership skill, especially as AI automates more of our operational workload.Storytelling begins with user journeys — not marketing — and should guide product design from day one.Founders must actively seek blunt feedback and treat it as a gift, not a threat.Market gaps aren't always opportunities — sometimes human behavior simply won't change.AI can create incredible value, but without ethical leadership and diverse teams, it can also reinforce harmful biases.Financial systems haven't evolved fast enough for gig workers and Gen Z borrowers — creating a massive unmet need.Empower was built as an end-to-end solution bridging lenders and borrowers through AI-driven financial fluency and credit modeling. The funding landscape now demands MVPs and traction early, making deep-tech innovation harder but still deeply needed.Chapters00:00 Welcome & Introduction01:20 From Investigative Journalism to Tech03:00 Curiosity as a Founder Superpower05:30 Market Fit, Behavior Change & Category Creation07:40 Storytelling as the Foundation of Product Design10:15 User Journeys, “Falling in Love with the Problem”12:20 The Power of Blunt Feedback in Early-Stage Building15:00 Parenting, Curiosity & Emotional Intelligence17:45 Why EQ Matters More Than Ever in the Age of AI20:20 Ethical AI, Bias, and Leadership Responsibility24:00 Financial Access, Gig Workers & the Modern Workforce27:10 How Gen Z Borrows Differently30:00 The Lender Perspective & Market Validation31:55 Fundraising Realities: Money vs. Strategic Money34:20 Noise in the AI Era & The Challenge of Differentiation36:00 Moats, LLMs & Building What Can't Be Easily Copied37:10 Community as a Strategic Advantage38:40 Founder Fears: Funding Markets & Deep Tech41:30 Biggest Founder Aha Moments42:20 Book Recommendation: Outcomes Over Output43:00 Connect with Tamara & Closing ThoughtsTamara Laine's Social Media Link:https://www.linkedin.com/in/tamaralaine/Resources and Links:https://www.hireclout.comhttps://www.podcast.hireclout.comhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/hirefasthireright
AI is devouring the planet's electricity ... already using up to 2% of global energy and projected to hit 5% by 2030. But a Spanish-Canadian company, Multiverse Computing, says it can slash that energy footprint by up to 95% without sacrificing performance. They specialize in tiny AI: one model has the processing power of just 2 fruit fly brains. Another tiny model lives on a Raspberry Pi.The opportunities for edge AI are huge. But the opportunities in the cloud are also massive. In this episode of TechFirst, host John Koetsier talks with Samuel Mugel, Multiverse's CEO, about how quantum-inspired algorithms can drastically compress large language models while keeping them smart, useful, and fast. Mugel explains how their approach -- intelligently pruning and reorganizing model weights -- lets them fit functioning AIs into hardware as tiny as a Raspberry Pi or the equivalent of a fly's brain. They explore how small language models could power Edge AI, smart appliances, and robots that work offline and in real time, while also making AI more sustainable, accessible, and affordable. Mugel also discusses how ideas from quantum tensor networks help identify only the most relevant parts of a model, and how the company uses an “intelligently destructive” approach that saves massive compute and power.00:00 – AI's energy crisis01:00 – A model in a fly's brain02:00 – Why tiny AIs work03:00 – Edge AI everywhere05:00 – Agent compute overload06:00 – 200× too much compute07:00 – The GPU crunch08:00 – Smart matter vision09:00 – AI on a Raspberry Pi10:00 – How compression works11:00 – Intelligent destruction13:00 – General vs. narrow AIs15:00 – Quantum inspiration17:00 – Quantum + AI future18:00 – AI's carbon footprint19:00 – Cost of using AI20:00 – Cloud to edge shift21:00 – Robots need fast AI22:00 – Wrapping up

Listeners will hear real-world stories, including Ari's personal turning point that inspired him to build a global movement around truth and trust in sales.Whether you're a founder, executive, or sales leader, this episode will help you rethink your approach to business growth—moving from transactional selling to creating deep trust that drives long-term success.TakeawaysTrust-building, not persuasion, is the foundation of modern sales.Stop selling pre-sale—diagnose problems first, like a doctor with a patient. The cost of inaction (COI) is critical: help prospects see the risk of staying with the status quo.Compressing the sales cycle into one call creates clarity and commitment without pressure.Relationship-building pre-sale often backfires; it can put you in the “friend zone.”Avoid using the phrase “follow-up”; ask for feedback instead to uncover the truth.Silence is a powerful tool—let prospects talk first and reveal their core issues.Clarity is the true value you provide, not your product demo or case studies.Create cultural change in sales teams by teaching trust-based frameworks, not scripts.Use trust-based language to keep prospects on your calendar and avoid chasing ghosts.Personal transparency and authenticity—like Ari's lessons from his son Toby—make you more effective.Market to the problems you solve, not your solutions, to stand out in a noisy world.Chapters00:00 Intro & Why Trust-Based Selling Matters in Tech01:30 The Shift: From Product-Centric to Problem-Centric03:15 Cost of Inaction: The Real Sales Trigger04:55 The One Call Sale Framework Explained06:40 Trust vs. Relationship Building08:20 Real Story: Why “Great Meetings” Don't Equal Sales10:40 Diagnosing Over Delivering: Coaching Case Study13:15 Ari's Sales Call Script (Doctor Analogy Breakdown)15:00 The Birth of Ari AI and What Makes It Unique18:00 How Leaders Role-Play and Write Better Emails with AI20:00 Difference Between Fact-Finding and Trust Questions21:40 Never Use “Follow Up” Again Use This Instead24:30 Building Culture Without Falling into the Friend Zone26:20 Sales Teams Need Interventions, Not Programs28:00 Avoiding Bad Business: Qualifying for Urgency30:00 Ari's Aha Moment: The Muted Sales Call That Changed Everything33:30 Why “Being Professional” Still Lost the Deal35:15 Favorite Book: 80/20 Sales & Marketing36:00 Why Ari Writes a New Book Every Quarter37:20 Writing Problem-Centric Cold Emails That Cut Through Noise39:00 Personal Wisdom from Ari's Son, Toby40:10 Final Advice: Trust is the New CurrencyAri Galper's Social Media Links:https://www.linkedin.com/in/arigalper/https://www.youtube.com/@ari_galperhttps://www.instagram.com/ari_galperhttps://x.com/arigalperAri Galper's Website:https://unlockthegame.com/Resources and Links:https://www.hireclout.comhttps://www.podcast.hireclout.comhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/hirefasthireright

Andrew Beer returns to confront a moment of reckoning for trend following. As managed futures suffer one of their worst periods in decades, he and Niels explore a deeper question: has the strategy evolved in ways that undermine its edge? From the seduction of short-term models to the unintended consequences of complexity, this conversation traces how well-meaning enhancements may be compounding the very problems they aim to solve. Layer in political volatility, crowded positioning, and allocator fatigue, and the path forward looks less like innovation and more like rediscovery. This episode isn't a defense of recent results... it's a clear-eyed look at what happens when a strategy built on discipline gets pulled off course, and what it takes to steer it back.-----50 YEARS OF TREND FOLLOWING BOOK AND BEHIND-THE-SCENES VIDEO FOR ACCREDITED INVESTORS - CLICK HERE-----Follow Niels on Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube or via the TTU website.IT's TRUE ? – most CIO's read 50+ books each year – get your FREE copy of the Ultimate Guide to the Best Investment Books ever written here. And you can get a free copy of my latest book “Ten Reasons to Add Trend Following to Your Portfolio” here.Learn more about the Trend Barometer here.Send your questions to info@toptradersunplugged.comAnd please share this episode with a like-minded friend and leave an honest Rating & Review on iTunes or Spotify so more people can discover the podcast.Follow Andrew on Twitter.Episode TimeStamps: 03:20 - Reflecting on Apple and China's Tech Revolution17:28 - Shifts in the Market Landscape: The Influence of Trump and AI20:03 - The Dynamics of Negotiation in Real Estate30:15 - Market Dynamics and the Role of Central Banks39:26 - The Changing Dynamics of Market Trends48:00 - Evaluating Investment Strategies and Performance53:19 - Navigating Market Challenges and Expectations01:08:34 - The Future of Investment Strategies01:11:10 - Navigating Market ChangesCopyright © 2024 – CMC AG – All Rights Reserved----PLUS: Whenever you're ready... here are 3 ways I can help you in your investment...

In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast, I, Stewart Alsop, speak with Perry Knoppert, founder of The Octopus Movement, joining us from the Netherlands. We explore everything from octopus facts (like how they once had bones and decided to ditch them—wild, right?) to neurodivergence, non-linear thinking, the alien-like nature of both octopuses and AI, and how the future of education might finally reflect the chaos and creativity of human intelligence. Perry drops insight bombs on ADHD, dyslexia, chaos as a superpower, and even shares a wild idea about how frustration—not just ideas—can shape the world. You can connect with him and explore more at theoctopusmovement.org, and check out his playful venting app at tellTom.ink.Check out this GPT we trained on the conversation!Timestamps00:00 Introduction to the Crazy Wisdom Podcast00:31 Fascinating Facts About Octopi02:03 The Octopus Movement: Origins and Symbolism05:55 Exploring Neurodivergence and AI20:15 The Future of Education with AI29:48 Challenges in the Dutch Education System30:59 Educational Pathways in the US31:50 Exploring Neurodiversity32:34 The Origin of Neurodiversity34:34 Nomadic DNA and ADHD36:02 Personal Nomadic Experiences37:20 Cultural Insights from China41:59 Trust in Different Cultures44:20 The Foreigner Experience52:21 Artificial and Natural Intelligence55:11 The Octopus Movement and Tell Tom AppKey InsightsNeurodivergence isn't a superpower—it's a different lens on reality. Perry challenges the popular narrative that conditions like ADHD or dyslexia are inherently "superpowers." Instead, he sees them as part of a broader, complex human experience—often painful, often misunderstood, but rich with potential once liberated from linear systems that define what's "normal."AI is the beautiful product of linear thought—and it's freeing us from it. Perry reframes artificial intelligence not as a threat, but as the ultimate tool born from centuries of structured, logical thinking. With AI handling the systems and organization, humans are finally free to return to creativity, chaos, and nonlinear, intuitive modes of intelligence that machines can't touch.Octopuses are the ultimate symbol of curious misfits. The octopus—alien, adaptable, emotion-rich—becomes a metaphor for people who don't fit the mold. With three hearts, nine brains, and a decentralized nervous system, octopuses reflect the kind of intelligence and distributed awareness Perry celebrates in neurodivergent thinkers.Frustration is more generative than ideas. In one of the episode's most unexpected insights, Perry argues that frustration is a more powerful starting point for change than intellectual ideation. Ideas are often inert without action, while frustration is raw, emotional, and deeply human—fuel for meaningful transformation.Education needs to shift from repetition to creation. The current model of education—memorization, repetition, testing—serves linearity, not creativity. With AI taking over traditional knowledge tasks, Perry envisions classrooms where kids learn how their minds work, engage with the world directly, and practice making meaning instead of memorizing facts.Being a foreigner is a portal to freedom. Living in unfamiliar cultures (like Perry did in China or Stewart in Argentina) reveals the absurdities of our own norms and invites new ways of being. Foreignness becomes a superpower in itself—a space of lowered expectations, fewer assumptions, and greater possibility.Labels like “neurodivergent” are both helpful and illusory. While diagnostic labels can offer relief and clarity, Perry warns against attaching too tightly to them. These constructs are inventions of linear thought, useful for navigating systems but ultimately limiting when it comes to embracing the full, messy, nonlinear reality of being human.

He reflects on his childhood, where a lack of constant stimulation led him to develop his artistic skills. Today, with infinite digital distractions, people must intentionally carve out space to be alone with their thoughts to create work that carries deep personal intention rather than just remixing external influences. The Struggle to Defend Attention – Stewart and Andrew discuss how modern digital platforms, particularly social media, are designed to hijack human attention through powerful AI-driven engagement loops. These mechanisms prioritize negative emotions and instant gratification, making it increasingly difficult for individuals to focus on deep, meaningful work. They suggest that future AI advancements could paradoxically help free people from screens, allowing them to engage with technology in a more intentional and productive way.AI as a Creative Partner—But Not Yet a True Challenger – While AI is already being used in creative fields, such as Hollywood's subtle use of AI for film corrections, it currently lacks the ability to provide meaningful pushback or true creative debate. Andrew argues that the best creative partners challenge ideas rather than just assist with execution, and AI's tendency to be agreeable and non-confrontational makes it a less valuable collaborator for artists who need critical feedback to refine their work. The Pendulum Swing of Human and Technological Aesthetics – Throughout history, every major technological advancement in the arts has been met with a counter-movement embracing raw, organic expression. Just as the rise of synthesizers in music led to a renewed interest in acoustic and folk styles, the rapid expansion of AI-generated art may inspire a resurgence of appreciation for handcrafted, deeply personal artistic works. The human yearning for tactile, real-world experiences will likely grow in response to AI's increasing role in creative production. The Enduring Value of Art Beyond Economic Utility – In a world increasingly shaped by economic efficiency and optimization, Andrew stresses the need to reaffirm the intrinsic value of art. While capitalism dominates, the real significance of artistic expression lies in its ability to move people, create connection, and offer meaning beyond financial metrics. This perspective is especially crucial in an era where AI-generated content is flooding the creative landscape, potentially diluting the sense of personal expression that defines human art.The Need for Intentionality in Using AI – AI's potential to streamline work processes and enhance creative output depends on how humans choose to engage with it. Stewart notes that while AI can be a powerful tool for structuring time and filtering distractions, it can also easily pull people into mindless consumption. The challenge lies in using AI with clear intention—leveraging it to automate mundane tasks while preserving the uniquely human aspects of ideation, storytelling, and artistic vision. The Role of Poetry and Language in Reclaiming Humanity – In a technology-driven world where efficiency is prioritized over depth, poetry serves as a reminder of the human experience. Andrew highlights the power of poets and clowns—figures often dismissed as impractical—as essential in preserving creativity, playfulness, and emotional depth. He suggests that valuing poetry and artistic language can help counterbalance the growing mechanization of culture, keeping human expression at the forefront of civilization's evolution.
