In today's episode, I am joined by Erin Harrigan, a Christian wife of 31 years, mom, business coach, author, and speaker. Erin shares her powerful journey of pursuing success while learning how to align her business and life with God's will. After giving her life to Christ at age 46, Erin's life took a complete turn as she embraced her relationship with Jesus and started navigating her business and career with a renewed purpose.Takeaways: 1. The Power of Surrender: Erin's story of overcoming her dependence on herself to lean fully on God highlights the importance of surrendering control. When you let God take the wheel, your life and career are filled with peace, clarity, and His guidance. 2. Redefining Success: Success in God's kingdom is not measured by worldly standards like wealth or status, but by deepening your relationship with Him and fulfilling His assignments for you. It's about being obedient and walking in His calling, even when it doesn't align with the world's expectations. 3. Trusting God's Timing: Erin's experience of trusting God's timing, even when things didn't go as planned, shows us that God's timing is always perfect. When we stop trying to “hustle” in our own strength, and instead focus on God's direction, He leads us to success in His way, not ours.Erin's journey is a powerful reminder that success God's way isn't about achieving for the sake of achievement—it's about walking in His will, embracing surrender, and letting Him define what success looks like for us.As you reflect on Erin's story, remember that God has uniquely equipped you to succeed in His way. Embrace His direction and trust that, in His time, you'll see the fruit of your obedience. Don't chase the world's version of success—pursue His calling for your life, and watch how He transforms your journey.Bio:Erin Harrigan is a Christian wife, empty nest mom, speaker, author, and Biblical business coach for high-achieving Christian women in business and the boardroom who seek to scale new heights in their business or career without compromising their faith. Using her 30+ years of corporate leadership and 12+ years of entrepreneurship, she helps sisters in Christ break free from the drain of “business as usual” by teaching them to redefine hustle and align business strategy and goals to God's truth. Erin's coaching provides women with a safe space to integrate their faith and business through strategy, accountability, focus, and encouragement in a judgment-free zone so they can transform the way they work and the results they achieve. If you’re toying with the idea of getting a pet, the first question to ask yourself is: Are you ready for the time, financial, and emotional commitment? Synopsis: The Usual Place host Natasha Ann Zachariah hunts for new perspectives on issues that matter to young people. On this episode of The Usual Place, host Natasha Ann Zachariah found out what blindspots first-time pet owners may have and what they should anticipate when getting a pet.Dibashini and TheAsianPawrent manager Jamie Wong dropped by to share their views about how to assess if you’re ready for a furry companion, the differences between adopting and buying pets, and the financial and emotional commitments of a pet owner. They also brought their furkids with them – Dibashini with her shiba inu, six-year-old Zuko, and Jamie with Yoko, a Bernedoodle (a mix of Bernese mountain dog and poodle), and Bowie, a kerry blue terrier pomsky. The starting point of a pawrent’s journey should start with deciding whether an animal’s personality, type and its age, among other factors, would be a good fit for the family, said Dibashini. Before anyone becomes a pet owner, they should do a lot of research about the breed or type of animal they want to adopt, and what their specific needs are, said Jamie. His advice: Ask yourself honestly if you’re ready for a long-term commitment with a pet. This week's guest is Adele Holmes (Winter's Reckoning, She Writes Press, August 2022). We discuss the complexity of not only writing three-POVs of different age groups and gender in her debut novel but also setting it in a tumultuous time period (the rural south of 1917 America) when the KKK was resurging and both women's rights, civil rights, and secondary education were under attack. A former pediatrician, Adele shares how her creative well had become depleted, how more experienced writers shared not only their advice but also their audience with her, and how marketing remains her least favorite part of the writing journey. Adele Holmes graduated from medical school in 1993. After twenty-plus years in private practice pediatrics, her unquenchable desire to wander the world, write, and give back to the community led her to retire from medicine. Her fun-loving family includes a rollicking crew of her husband Chris, two adult children and their spouses, five grandchildren of diverse ages and talents, a horse, and a Bernedoodle. Winter's Reckoning, Adele's debut novel, won Honorable Mention in the 2021 William Faulkner Literary Competition and first place in the 2021 Chanticleer International Book Award-Goethe Award. Kirkus Reviews called it “A notable tale that offers the hope that even small actions can lead toward greater good.” She is currently at work on her second novel in her resident town of Little Rock, Arkansas. He joins us to share his lessons learned in the hopes that it will help others. He's written a book Ride or Die: Loving Through Tragedy, A Husband's Memoir about his experiences as a caregiver. And I know, life is joy. But there is a burden to living because of stuff like this. You get injured. You lose your job. Your wife dies or your husband dies. Your kid gets sick. You cannot shoulder the burden alone. You just can't. I don't care how strong you are, even on the most elite military units in the world, it's a team. They spread the misery, right? It's individual. But they know that their buddy's got their back if the thing hits the fan. They know that in their soul. But, us normal folk, we generally don't have that kind of discipline or that connection, and community. I strive every day to continue to build those strong bonds with the community. I'm here today because of that, all my friends, and it's powerful." On Being Present "She needed me to be present for her. And over time I realized that, and then, even she even acknowledged it. She's like, Look, I know you need to get away from this.  This was the gift that I always think about. She was worried about my health and well-being too. So I think for men, it's not always what you're doing as a caregiver. It's being present. It's being thoughtful. It's like listening. It's like having them being heard. Because they're in a awkward spot. Jane was a Type A entrepreneur, changing the world, doing whatever she wants.  Now she's like, Hey babe, can you get me some towels? Hey babe, what's it like outside in the real world? It felt like prison to her. I learned about myself that if you have a halfway decent attitude, you could pretty much get through anything. You don't have to be stellar. You just have to show up and be committed. And you're going to make mistakes and things are not going go bad. But if you've got good intent, you're working towards it." ________________________ About Retirement Wisdom I help people who are retiring, but not quite done yet, discover what's next. A long retirement is a terrible thing to waste. And a meaningful retirement doesn't just happen by accident. Retire smarter.

Navigating Transitions of life is something we cannot avoid. We do have a choice in how we show up day in and day out though. In seasons marked with pain and strife it's easy to give way to the thought of being a victim of our circumstances and yet through our relationship with Christ we can know that he works all things together for good, even the hard parts, the ugly parts, and the parts we just assume skip. The crazy part of life if you've lived any amount of time though is that life will be riddled with challenges and opportunities that will make or break you. Not becoming a victim to your circumstances will be hard BUT entirely possible and beautiful when you see what God wants to do as he weaves your story together FOR THE GOOD. Today's conversation with Bryan was encouraging to me as someone who's chosen to dive into what God has to offer in life but also someone who with open hands has seen what God can do upon returning to him. His “prodigal” experience isn't one to wish away. It was one that brought him today and I'm grateful to share his story with you. Carita adores words, and much of her moxie is fueled by writing them, reading them, speaking them, and encouraging others to love them as much as she does. In this episode, Carita helps Main Street Moxie launch a new literary genre called Mox Lit. She came prepared with a moxie-filled reading list to share with listeners. Carita also offers her moxie secrets and advocates for small daily habits to advance toward one's goals. She reads widely, voraciously, and enthusiastically for enrichment and escape. In this episode, she confidently responds to the age-old teen question of why reading Shakespeare is valuable. Carita is a master English instructor and class dean at the Hotchkiss School in Lakeville, CT. She's also an aspiring author of romance and young-adult fiction. While pursuing her MFA in creative writing, she wrote a romance novel and has several other works of fiction in her creative pipeline. She also created her author website, caritagardiner.com, publishes a weekly Why Wednesday blog, and shows her abiding affection and respect for grammar through GrammarLove. Carita walks her 110-pound Bernedoodle named after a hockey goalie (not from her favorite team–Go Blackhawks!); listens to podcasts on writing, science, economics, and romance novels–and moxie; plays old-lady ice hockey with the Salisbury Stingers; prolifically knits afghans and charity caps; devours romance novels and anything caramelly (not chocolatey); pushes anti-racism efforts; mentors new teachers; wears sparkly shoes; makes to-do lists; lifts small weights; walks with friends; and loves her husband, two daughters, and extended family. This episode is proudly sponsored by Oblong Books (where all the books Carita discusses are available in-store or online) and Elyse Harney Real Estate.Go to the Main Street Moxie website for the show notes to Carita's episode and her exclusive Mox Lit reading list.

In this part two of Corinne's conversation with Denver Paw School's owner and training manager, they to discuss why your doodle still continues to need training, even as an adolescent and an adult. Training and learning don't stop once they've finished one puppy socialization class. That would be like your pulling your kid out after kindergarten and saying, "You've got your letters. You learned enough.""With my now teenager, if I stopped addressing his learning needs at kindergarten, and even if I just kept reinforcing that kindergarten level, he'd be great at knowing his letters. But by raising the level of enrichment and stimulation and growth and connection by working on that training together, my dog and I are still growing and solidifying our connection together." - Corinne GearhartThey discuss why that's so important and what's going on when you have an adolescent doodle that knew how to sit or go into a down stay or not pull on the leash... And suddenly it seems like they forgot it all. What is going on? They're here to share with you and let you know. If you want to know how to find a great facility, great training program, or a solid trainer, listen to part one of this interview, Episode 13. There, Denver Paw School shares with people all over the world the red flags to look for, when to run, and what to feel great about when you find  a facility or a training programOn this part 2 of our interview, the adolescent doodle questions will be addressed include: - What is a dog's teenage phase?- Is it normal for an adolescent dog to have increased reactivity, barking, jumping, biting, poor impulse control, or to stop listening?- If they are more reactive or harder to control, should we stop socialization or going to public places?- How do I find adolescent dog training classes near me?- Why is my teenage dog driving me crazy and won't listen?Sometimes there are doodles that struggle with overstimulation, like just absolutely over-aroused. Continuing on with socialization might be counterintuitive. But actually, if it's regimented and controlled in a way, I think that it can start to address some of those over-arousal situations." - Kathy Thorpe"And I think that's probably one of the biggest things with teenagers is that some days they're like... super responsive and responding to every cue and look like a model citizen and they look like an adult dog. And then yes, the next day it's like, where did that dog go?  And it's all the rewiring, the brain is under construction." - Colleen TekampChapters: -3:47 Working with adolescent doodles-6:14 Teenage issues aren't your fault!-6:52 Is socialization still needed at this age?-9:42 Doodle's Extended Puppyhood & Adolescence-13:54 Human side of the leash-18:28 What if we do drop out after puppy kindergarten?Take our fun and free Doodle Personality Quiz! Electric bikes (eBikes) are gaining traction as a means of transportation in the United States after enjoying years of popularity in Europe. Many people can ride them, and they allow the freedom to go further. eBikes have the potential to expand bike riding to new audiences and keep people riding bikes throughout their lives; not to mention, the potential impact of the last mile and future delivery of goods to remote locations. The eBike inspires our mobility behavior and is one of the most sustainable and healthiest means of transportation of our time. Listen in on an entertaining and informative conversation with two experts from Bosch who live and breathe eBikes – Laura Montero and Steven Sheffield. Laura "Sunshine" Montero is a field technical specialist serving the southern Midwest region of the U.S. and is based in Austin, Texas. It started in Chicago, where Debra wrote and sang original musicals for her stuffed animals when she was very young. She began an illustrious theatrical career starring as Toto in a summer camp production of Wizard of Oz. Barely surviving head-to-toe fur in sweltering July heat, she already knew how to suffer for her art. https://debrawanger.com/ Debra studied acting at the nationally-acclaimed Piven Theatre Workshop with such talents as John Cusack, Joan Cusack, and Jeremy Piven. Her vocal training began at the Northwestern University vocal department while still attending high school. She declined an opera scholarship to Oberlin Conservatory in order to study musical theatre at University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM.)   She took a quarter off to work for a few months in live theatre. Fifteen productions later, she returned to school and graduated magna cum laude from Tufts University and received a Masters of Fine Arts in musical theatre from San Diego State University, where she graduated Phi Kappa Phi as a Marion Ross Scholar.   Debra has performed in regional theatres and cabaret clubs across the country, most frequently in Los Angeles, San Diego, Boston, and South Florida. In Professionally Speaking at the Off-Broadway, The Miami Herald hailed her “a comic sparkplug.”   Her role in Triumph of Love won a KPBS-TV Patté award. Her one-woman show My Nights With George, Kurt & Cole, (co-written and directed by comic genius, Phil Johnson) was featured at various venues throughout Southern California and won Best New Play and Best Actress at the 2003 San Diego Actors Festival, and the San Diego Playbill Billie Award for Best Actress in a musical.  In 2019, Debra won a San Diego Theatre Critics Circle Award (Craig Noel) for Angels in America: Parts 1 & 2. She appears regularly in San Diego regional theatre, including: Angles in America, Handbagged, God of Vengeance at the La Jolla Playhouse, Hairspray, Footloose, Sound of Music, La Cage Aux Folles, Billy Elliot and White Christmas at San Diego Musical Theatre. Spring Awakening, My Fair Lady, On the 20th Century and Dogfight at Cygnet; Hamlet (Gertrude) at Intrepid; Titanic & Sunset Blvd. at Moonlight Amphitheatre; Permanent Collection at Mo’olelo; Full Monty (Vicki) at New Village Arts; Anything Goes! (Reno) Oliver! (Nancy) and Babes in Arms at Lyric Opera San Diego; Carousel and Sound of Music at Lawrence Welk; My Nights With George, Kurt & Cole (NCRT & 6th@Penn, AASD & Billie Awards); Debra studied at Tufts & CCM and holds a M.F.A. from SDSU.  Her CD, Driving My Own Heart is available on Amazon & iTunes.   She took hiatus from performing to explore the “other side of the table.” As a talent manager and at Creative Artists Agency, under world-famous super-agent Michael Ovitz, she helped to guide the careers of such actors as Donald Sutherland, Patrick Dempsey, Halle Berry, Alyssa Milano, and Antonio Banderas.  Having been yelled at by some of the most powerful players in Hollywood, she decided that performing was just as difficult, but a lot more fun.   Debra is a Certified Bulletproof Human Potential Coach, studying in a year-long program with the Bulletproof Certified Coach Training Program with Dave Asprey & Dr. Mark Atkinson. As a coach, Debra specializes in helping actors & creative types find a healthy lifestyle balance while maintaining an exciting, satisfying creative career (it can be done!) She co-hosted The Upgraded Woman Podcast with Lane Kennedy found on iTunes and UpgradedWoman.com. Debra travels the country speaking and working with young actors to learn healthy habits to set them on a course for a long, healthy career as as Resilient Actor!   Her diverse career has also included work as an award-winning actor, director, producer, professor, best-selling author, disc jockey, law intern, arranger, choir director, radio producer, announcer, teacher, coach, housewife, last but exhaustively not least, mom. She plays the guitar, harp, and piano and spends any free-time (ha!) dabbling in cooking, aromatherapy, yoga, interior decorating, and chocolate. She lives in San Diego with her three children & Bernedoodle.
