T3-based thyroid medications, including desiccated thyroid extract and combination T4/T3 therapy, are some of the most misunderstood and controversial tools in thyroid care. Some patients feel dramatically better. Others feel briefly improved, then crash. Labs often look "optimized," yet long-term recovery stalls. So what's actually happening? In this episode of Thyroid Answers, Dr. Eric Balcavage breaks down the most common mistakes, misunderstandings, and miscommunication surrounding T3-based thyroid therapy — and explains why outcomes vary so widely between patients. You'll learn: Why so many people end up on T3 or desiccated thyroid in the first place The real physiologic arguments clinicians use to justify T3 therapy What a healthy human thyroid gland actually produces — and why that matters Where most of the body's T3 really comes from Why "poor conversion" is often an adaptive response, not a defect Why lowering reverse T3 doesn't necessarily mean recovery Why T3 helps some people and destabilizes others The difference between managing symptoms and restoring physiology This episode reframes T3 therapy through the lens of physiologic state, not just lab values — and explains why adding more thyroid hormone can sometimes push the body further away from recovery. If you've ever wondered whether T3 is helping you, hurting you, or simply masking deeper issues, this conversation will give you a clearer framework for understanding what's really going on.

Stephie Prestridge on The Dark Side of Life Insurance: How to Fight Back Against Denials Lifeclaim.com About the Guest(s): Stephie Prestridge is an accomplished attorney and the founder of LifeClaim, a law practice that focuses exclusively on life insurance disputes. With a background in estate planning, Stephie Prestridge transitioned to life insurance after witnessing families struggle with the complexities of policy language and beneficiary designations. Her firm represents beneficiaries in cases involving delayed, denied, and disputed life insurance claims, and she is passionate about helping families secure the benefits they are entitled to receive. Episode Summary: Join host Chris Voss as he delves into the complex world of life insurance claims with Stephie Prestridge, a specialized attorney in life insurance disputes. As the founder of LifeClaim, Stephie Prestridge brings her legal expertise to the discussion, highlighting the often unseen challenges families face when dealing with life insurance claims. Through engaging anecdotes and insightful legal strategies, this episode sheds light on how beneficiaries can navigate the murky waters of insurance claims to ensure justice. In this enlightening episode, Steffy shares her knowledge on why life insurance isn’t as simple as it seems and discusses the “fine print” that often leads to denied claims. With terms like “contestability period” and the implications of improper beneficiary designations, she emphasizes the importance of understanding policy contracts. Chris and Stephie Prestridge explore the legal tools available to beneficiaries, the pervasive issue of insurance companies attempting to avoid payouts, and the emotional toll these disputes take on families. Key Takeaways: Life insurance claims don’t automatically pay out after death; they must survive a claims review process. The “contestability period” allows insurance companies to review and potentially deny claims within the first two years of a policy. Consultations with law firms like LifeClaim can provide crucial support and guidance when dealing with life insurance disputes. Miscommunication and incorrect beneficiary designations often lead to claims disputes, highlighting the need for regular policy reviews. Life insurance policies often fund lawsuits due to complex family dynamics and unresolved issues after someone's passing. Notable Quotes: “Life insurance does not pay out because someone passed away; it pays out because it survived a claims review.” “If they said no, let’s go. ‘No’ is just leverage, not the end of the road.” “Death and money change people, and unresolved relationships can ignite after someone dies.” “If someone has a claim that’s being delayed for whatever reason, that’s a great time to ask for help.” “Know that you have this information available to you.”

Valentine's Day is a holiday, so of course, I'm talking Valentine's Day specials on this week's Video Store Podcast. I've picked four specials for the staff picks wall this week that I think everyone should watch this time of year. These specials either make me laugh, have a different flavor than you might expect for a Valentine's Day special, and one that actually changed popular culture. Grab that heart-shaped box of candy and let's settle in for these specials.Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown (1975)First up is Be My Valentine, Charlie Brown. This is an underrated classic in the Peanuts special canon. The Peanuts gang is getting ready to celebrate the holiday that feels to me, just like elementary school. There's a Valentine's Day party, unrequited love, making homemade Valentine's cards, and more. Plus, you've got a wonderful score from Vince Guaraldi, and with the main theme being the “Heartburn Waltz,” what's not to like? Look for it in the Peanuts section.A Charlie Brown Valentine (2002)This is one of the “new” Peanuts specials that I think is worth your time. A Charlie Brown Valentine focuses on Charlie Brown trying to muster the courage to talk to the Little Red-Haired Girl and tell her how he feels. But simultaneously, both Marcie and Peppermint Patty are interested in Charlie Brown and would like him to be their Valentine! Miscommunication, obliviousness, and Charlie Brown's classic wishy-washy attitude make this a fun special. There are segments that make me laugh out loud every time I watch, so I think you'll have a good time with this one. Look for it in the Peanuts section. The Berenstain Bears' Comic Valentine (1982)For a deep cut Valentine's Day special, I've selected The Berenstain Bears' Comic Valentine, which aired on February 13, 1982, on NBC. This is the fourth of five Berenstain Bears specials produced for NBC from 1979 - 1983. In this special, Brother Bear has a championship hockey game coming up. He's focused on getting ready for the game, but Valentine's Day is coming up, too. He starts received Valentine's from his Secret Admirer, Honey Bear. Brother doesn't know a Honey Bear, so all he can do is speculate. Meanwhile, Papa Bear is looking for a way to show Mama Bear just how much he cares, and Sister gets into the Valentine's Day spirit, looking to send Valentines to everyone, including the giant, Big Paw up on the Mountain. Will Brother figure out who his secret admirer is in time for Valentine's Day? Grab this one from the animation section to find out.Parks and Recreation season 2 episode 16 “Galentine's Day”Ovaries before brovaries, uteruses before duderuses, it all starts here with “Galentine's Day” from Parks and Recreation season 2. This episode, which aired on February 11, 2010, added a new pop culture holiday and gave the Valentine's Day season a little more fun. Gather your best gals and join me on the couch for this all-time great from one of the greatest comedies on television, you brilliant, powerful musk ox. From all of us here at the Video Store Podcast, we hope you have a safe and happy Valentine's Day. Thanks for reading Video Store Podcast! This post is public so feel free to share it. The Second Phase Podcast - Personal Branding & Brand Marketing and Life Strategies for Success for Female Entrepreneurs

Every married couple can benefit from having strategies for a healthy marriage. Marriage can be challenging, especially as couples grow individually. So how can couples overcome modern-day distractions to achieve a healthy marriage? Strategies for a healthy marriage include, but are not limited to, playfulness, honesty, intimacy, deep connection, and being anchored in faith to honor the sacred covenant. A healthy marriage translates into a healthy family. When your children see you working on your marriage and experience your joy in your marriage, they learn how to build healthy relationships, too. Fullfillment in life and relationship To maintain fulfillment at home, recognizing the significance of a healthy marriage is crucial. Understanding the Ripple Effect A healthy marriage serves as the foundation for a harmonious family life. When spouses collaborate to create a stable, loving home, children benefit immensely. The Importance of Connection over Disconnection Disconnection in marriage is not neutral; it breeds further discord. It can stealthily lead to emotional distress and, eventually, separation. Misconceptions and Realities about Intimacy Intimacy and vulnerability are key components of marriage that are often misunderstood or ignored. Statistics and Sobering Realities of Divorce Statistics highlight a troubling trend: nearly half of marriages end in divorce, and the rate is even higher in subsequent marriages. Strategies for a Healthy Marriage Building a resilient marriage involves practical strategies. Communication: The Bedrock of a Strong Marriage Effective communication is the cornerstone of any healthy marriage relationship. Miscommunication or lack of expression can lead to marital breakdown. Forgiveness and Healing in Marriage At times, marriages face betrayals or challenges that seem insurmountable. Forgiveness in these circumstances may be challenging, but it is key. Cultivating a Stronger Family Through a Strong Marriage A healthy marriage inherently benefits children, providing them with a model of love, teamwork, and communication. When parents invest in their relationship, children feel more secure and valued. Thus, nurturing your marriage not only fulfills you and uplifts your partner but also enriches your family's collective well-being. Revisiting these principles and strategies offers couples a pathway to nurture and sustain a healthy marriage. Through dedication and mutual understanding, couples can create a positive familial atmosphere where everyone thrives. Read the full show notes and access all links. The chemical cross-communication between the guts and other organs that occurs when a person metabolizes nutrients begins before we open our mouths, when we see or smell food. UT Health San Antonio endocrinologist Dr. Marzieh Salehi is studying that communication in patients with spinal cord injury.

Welcome to the DMF. I'm Justin Younts, and in this episode, Alexandra Beller dives deep into the four categories of energy: weight, space, time, and flow—and how understanding these elements can radically transform an actor's process.Alexandra explains that each category exists on a spectrum, and learning to work with them gives actors practical, embodied tools instead of vague direction. She addresses a common frustration performers face: when a director asks for something like “more aggressive” without explaining what that actually means. Alexandra breaks down how to translate those abstract notes into clear, physical choices that live in the body. She emphasizes that the body often understands things language can't articulate, and that tapping into physical instinct leads to more truthful, grounded performances. Alexandra also shares her approach to directing, which prioritizes physicality, intuition, and energetic awareness over rigid intellectual analysis.Throughout the conversation, she explores how actors can use energy dynamics to deepen their work—whether in rehearsal, performance, or character preparation. Alexandra also discusses the balance between instinct and analysis, showing how both can coexist to elevate an actor's craft rather than compete with each other. If you're an actor looking to unlock new levels of creativity, presence, and expression, this episode offers powerful tools to rethink how you approach performance. Questions have been raised over who deploys helicopters to transport rescue teams as police apologise over a miscommunication. A 13-year-old girl was left clinging to a cliff in Coromandel Peninsula's Hahei for hours last year - when police mistakenly thought she was dead. They refused to foot the bill for a chopper and a rescue crew made a nearly two-hour car journey. The Professional Firefighters Union's Martin Campbell says there needs to be clarity. "In some cases, police are saying it's their call. And Fire and Emergency in the past have made that call. So there is a bit of confusion and misunderstanding." First-Half Flames, Second-Half Fix The Detroit Lions survived a nail biter against the New York Giants. It was a big NFL win, but it started ugly. The defense looked disorganized. Misfits. Miscommunication. The Giants scored more in the first half than Philadelphia managed across four quarters. That set the tone. The week's theme inside Allen Park was firefighting. Defensive coordinator Kelvin Sheppard called his unit the firefighters. Dan Campbell leaned into it too. In the first half, everything burned. After halftime, the Lions put the fire out. Structure returned. Tackles stuck. The scoreboard slowed. That resilience, not the chaos, is the lasting note. This Detroit Lions Podcast recap keeps the focus on cause and effect. The early mess forced the defense to respond. They did. The win stands because they adjusted, not because the opening plan worked. That is a useful truth with a short week ahead. Jahmyr Gibbs, Star Power in Full View Jahmyr Gibbs tilted the field. Again. He is the biggest offensive star the Detroit Lions have had since Calvin Johnson. Before that, Barry Sanders. That is the lineage described, and the tape backs it. Gibbs changes leverage with one cut. He erases angles in space. He is lethal in the run game and the pass game. The national conversation is finally catching up to what Detroit already knows. Touches will always be the debate. Some want more Gibbs. Some want more David Montgomery. The truth is simpler. There is only one player on this offense, and maybe in this league, who can do what Gibbs can do snap to snap. He must be a focal point against Green Bay on Thanksgiving. Every motion, every screen, every counter that stresses rules should run through 26. Campbell's Call Sheet and the Sideline Clock Dan Campbell taking over play calling midseason was a gamble. It has lifted the offense, but it has a cost. Game management suffered against the Giants. Timeouts were misused. The challenge process faltered. Too much traffic on the headset, and too much on one person. That is the trade-off when the head coach calls plays instead of John Morton. The Lions can live with some inefficiency if the sequencing and feel stay hot. But the margin is thin with six games left and the Packers next. Campbell must evolve weekly. Clean the clock work. Streamline the challenge mechanics. Keep the creativity. The team cannot keep fixing the plane at altitude. Amon-Ra's Pain, Packers on Deck Amon-Ra St. Brown is playing hurt. The drops tell the story. He had two all of last season. He has two or three in back-to-back weeks now. And yet he still led the team in catches and yards. The toughness is obvious. The production remains. That balance will matter on Thursday at Ford Field against the Packers. The enemies list shifts after a win like this. Green Bay tops it. Firefighting metaphors can stay in the past. The Detroit Lions need clean starts, Gibbs in rhythm, and a calmer sideline clock. Do that, and the next Detroit Lions Podcast will be breaking down a statement Thanksgiving win. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvi2PQZFnYA #detroitlions #lions #detroitlionspodcast #newyorkgiants #miscommunication #kelvinsheppard #firefighters #dancampbell #playcalling #gamemanagement #timeouts #challengeprocess Learn more about your ad choices. In this episode of Communication Queen, host Kimberly Spencer sits down with branding badass Rachel Lee, the designer who “speaks fluently in pixels, fonts, and colors,” to unpack what it actually takes to create a visual brand that feels like your soul in 4K. Together, they dive into why so many entrepreneurs feel a 25–50% disconnect between who they are on Zoom and who they appear to be online, and how that gap quietly erodes trust, magnetism, and money. Rachel breaks down her process for translating a client's quirks, stories, and “weird friend-only facts” into bold, intentional visuals that build instant connection—especially in an era where AI-generated everything is flooding the feed. You'll hear Rachel share vulnerably about navigating business with debt, declaring bankruptcy, and realizing that the very things she was most insecure about—her baby face, her big joy, her “too much” energy—were actually her most powerful brand assets. The Triple Threat to the Rare Disease Ecosystem — A Conversation with Dr. Wendy ChungSometimes you come across someone whose work changes the way you think about an entire field. That's exactly what happened when I read about Dr. Wendy Chung in Rare Revolution Magazine.Dr. Chung is one of those rare people who stands at the intersection of science, medicine, ethics, and humanity. She's a clinical and molecular geneticist, the Chief of Pediatrics at Boston Children's Hospital, and the Mary Ellen Avery Professor at Harvard Medical School. She leads NIH-funded research into the genetics of conditions like pulmonary hypertension, autism, birth defects, and a wide range of rare diseases. She's advanced newborn screening for life-threatening disorders like spinal muscular atrophy and Duchenne muscular dystrophy — work that means the difference between life and death for many families. She's been recognized with the Rare Impact Award from NORD, is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, and is a leading voice on the ethics of genomics. But titles and accolades only tell part of her story. What stands out most is her deep commitment to the people behind the science, the families living day in and day out with conditions that most of the world has never heard of.When we spoke, Dr. Chung described what she calls the “triple threat” to the rare disease ecosystem:Misinformation in health that spreads faster than facts and erodes trust in science.Lack of access to healthcare, leaving too many without the treatments they need, when they need them.Insufficient investment in research, slowing the pace of discovery and delaying life-saving therapies. Each of these challenges is daunting on its own, but together they create a fragile and often hostile environment for progress in rare disease research and care. She pointed out that while most genetic conditions are rare individually, collectively they are surprisingly common — affecting millions worldwide. That's a staggering thought, especially considering how little public awareness and funding rare diseases often receive. We also talked about autism, a condition she has studied extensively. She emphasized that autism is a spectrum, with multiple causes, the majority of which are genetic. Understanding that complexity is crucial, not only for advancing science but also for helping families cope and make informed decisions. One of the threads running through our conversation was the urgent need for better communication in science. In an age where misinformation spreads in seconds, the ability to convey facts clearly and accessibly isn't just a nice skill — it's a necessity. Miscommunication or confusion doesn't just impact public opinion; it influences policy decisions, research funding, and the direction of healthcare itself.Dr. Chung stressed that advocacy matters at every level — from the conversations parents have with their children's doctors to the policies shaped in Washington. Community engagement isn't just a feel-good idea; it's one of the most effective ways to accelerate progress. Patients, families, scientists, and policymakers all have a role to play, and collaboration among them is where breakthroughs happen. In the end, our conversation left me with two truths. First, that rare disease progress depends on persistence from so many people. The researchers who refuse to give up, from families who continue to fight for answers, and from advocates who push for change. Second, that truth itself is a kind of medicine. The more accurately, compassionately, and consistently we can communicate about rare diseases, the better chance we have at building a healthcare ecosystem that works for everyone.Dr. Wendy Chung is leading that charge, not just in the lab, but in the public square. And in this fight, both matter equally. Steven Jarvis is the CEO of Retirement Tax Services, a tax education and preparation firm that partners with financial advisors across the country to better serve their clients. Listen in as Steven explains how advisors can build trust with CPAs through proactive communication—not just sending over forms during tax season, but also giving context to planning decisions, providing year-end summaries, and getting ahead of major moves like Roth conversions or Qualified Charitable Distributions. You'll learn how aligning with CPAs as collaborative decision-makers can lead to better returns for clients and the potential for cross-referrals, and why timing conversations around a CPA's calendar matters.  For show notes and more visit: https://www.kitces.com/459

This week's cycles invite you to find your voice in the tension between self and other, and to alchemize old wounds of belonging into courageous self-expression under the light of the Full Moon.Wednesday, October 1 – Mercury in Libra squares Jupiter in CancerThe Storyteller (Mercury) in Libra, sign of balance and relational harmony, encounters tension with the Teacher (Jupiter) in Cancer, the sign of belonging, lineage, and emotional roots. This square can amplify conversations about fairness, truth, and belonging—sometimes exaggerating perspectives or inflating the desire to be “right.” There's an invitation to expand your vision while also listening carefully to others' truths, especially when your own need for belonging gets stirred. Miscommunication may highlight old emotional patterns that are ready to grow into greater wisdom. Reflection Question: Where are my words or thoughts asking for expansion beyond old family or belonging stories, and how can I hold space for multiple truths without losing my own voice?Friday, October 3 – Mercury in Libra opposes Chiron in AriesHere the Storyteller (Mercury) in Libra directly faces the Wounded Healer (Chiron) in Aries. This can spotlight core wounds around self-expression—feeling unheard, unseen, or dismissed—and how these wounds play out in relationships. Conversations may carry a sharp edge, not because they are wrong, but because they touch a tender place of vulnerability. The medicine is in noticing how old wounds of self-assertion or self-worth shape current dialogues, and how to bring compassion and balance into the exchange. Healing can come by learning to speak your truth gently, without abandoning yourself.Reflection Question: What tender wound in me is asking for compassionate communication, and how can I honor both my voice and the voices of others in this dialogue?Looking Ahead to Next Week– Full Moon at 14° Aries (Oct 6)The week builds toward a powerful Full Moon in Aries on Monday, Oct 6. This lunation illuminates the central polarity of the week: Libra's call for harmony and connection versus Aries' call for courage and authentic selfhood. The Moon in Aries shines on your need for bold self-expression, while the Libra Sun reminds you of the beauty of reciprocity and balance in relationship. Expect heightened emotions and the potential for breakthroughs—especially where old wounds around speaking up, being heard, or claiming your space in relationships are ready to shift. This upcoming Full Moon acts as the alchemical climax of the week: all the Mercury conversations with Jupiter and Chiron prepare the ground for a liberating moment of truth under this Aries–Libra illumination.Reflection Question: What truth of my own selfhood is ready to be spoken and witnessed under the light of the Full Moon?Podcast Poem: The Forest for the Trees by Rena PriestSupport the showGo to Sheila's website for information for transformational resources: https://www.ontheedgesofchange.com/home-page This episode was co-created with generative AI, engaged as a soul-aligned ally in service of transformation. Couples Communication That Actually Works: The Two-Conversation Framework, Real Listening, and Repair Over Perfection with Raffi Bilek

Healthy Mind, Healthy Life

Miscommunication isn't fate—it's fixable. In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, marriage counselor Raffi Bilek, author of The Couples Communication Handbook, breaks down why most fights spiral (fight-or-flight, solving too soon) and how to replace them with a clear, repeatable process. We cover the two-conversation framework (explore first, solve second), listening that lands (reflect, don't rebut), using humor without harm, and building a reliable repair system so conflict doesn't erode the relationship. Direct, practical, and immediately usable for couples, therapists, and anyone who wants fewer blowups and more connection.   About the guest  :   Raffi Bilek is a marriage counselor and author of The Couples Communication Handbook: The Skills You Never Learned for the Marriage You Always Wanted. He helps couples move from reactivity to repair with simple, teachable skills grounded in real-life practice.   Key takeaways  : Don't fix in the fire: pause when activated; come back when you're regulated. Run two conversations: first explore the problem (what's under it—respect, autonomy, feeling unseen); then solve it. Listening ≠ agreement: reflect back what you heard; postpone rebuttal and solutions. Make safety explicit: agree on no judgment / no interruptions / no instant fixes while exploring. Humor connects only when it's not at your partner's expense; don't use jokes to deflect hard truths. Expect work: great relationships aren't conflict-free; they have a reliable repair system. Name emotions directly; increase self-awareness (introspection, therapy, journaling) so your partner can understand you. If one partner won't invest, depth stalls—decide to accept the status quo, re-contract the relationship, or seek change together. Household fights are usually symbols; get curious about the meaning, not just the dishes. Small weekly practice: one explore-only talk (15–20 min); solutions scheduled later.   Connect with the guest   Website (book + contact): https://www.thecommunicationbook.com/Download first two chapters free; contact Raffi for questions or consults.   Want to be a guest on Healthy Mind, Healthy Life? #287 In this episode, I share a recent frustrating experience I had with a coworking space (spoiler: I'm no longer a member). But more importantly, I'm using it to highlight 3 key lessons every business owner needs to hear. Here's what happened… Miscommunication, unaddressed billing issues, and inflexible systems turned what could've been a minor hiccup into a lost relationship. Whether you run a gym, coach clients, or sell products, the principles apply: Communicate clearly – Say what you'll do, then do what you said. Radio silence breaks trust faster than anything. Fix billing mistakes fast – There's no such thing as a “small” billing error. Own it. Stay flexible – If your system can't make room for your customer, they won't make room for you. I wrap up with a challenge: What's one policy, habit, or touchpoint that might be quietly pushing your best people away? This one might sting a bit but it'll sharpen your business. Let's dive in.
