The Dutch courts finally did something useful: they told Meta to quit force-feeding algorithmic slop to everyone, so Facebook and Instagram users might actually see posts from friends again—if they can remember who those are. Meanwhile, OpenAI's Sora 2 rollout is the kind of chaos that makes you wonder if the company replaced QA with a TikTok filter, as outrage videos flood the internet faster than you can say “deepfake meltdown.” Apple banned ICEBlock for being too effective while ICE now wants its own social media surveillance tool—one that OpenAI shut down when Chinese accounts tried to build it. California's hammering Tesla for its abysmal insurance claims handling, OpenAI is gobbling up chunks of AMD, and consultants got caught using ChatGPT to fake reports before proudly partnering with Anthropic, who just landed Deloitte as its latest “enterprise AI” victim. Elsewhere in this circus: a Florida teen asked ChatGPT how to kill his friend, Taylor Swift fans are furious her new promo video used AI slop (“too rich to be this cheap”), and Apple's “Find My” led cops to a mountain of smuggled iPhones. In Media Candy, Brian's stunned The Diplomat scored a third season, The Long Walk is being pitched as Stand By Me meets Squid Game, California finally bans loud streaming commercials, and Amazon censored Bond posters to remove guns because apparently irony is dead. AI “musicians” are signing record deals while Zelda Williams begs people to stop resurrecting her dad with deepfake garbage. In Apps & Doodads, Jony Ive's OpenAI gadget is delayed (good), Rivian insists we'll “appreciate” not having CarPlay (we won't), Spotify and ChatGPT are teaming up to read your soul through playlists, and Jason warns everyone that the Echo Show is basically an ad-spewing parasite. Apple's now facing a cybercrime probe in France for Siri's wiretapping habits, and if you're nostalgic for simpler times, ioquake3 will let you relive Quake III Arena glory on a modern rig. At the Library, Peter Cawdron's Dark Beauty: First Contact belly-flops as a Slaughterhouse-Five tribute, while Cory Doctorow's Enshittification nails exactly why everything sucks—even if his fixes are pure science fiction.Sponsors:CleanMyMac - clnmy.com/GrumpyOldGeeks - Use code OLDGEEKS for 20% off.Private Internet Access - Go to GOG.Show/vpn and sign up today. He joins Bad Faith to discuss Paul Thomas Anderson's One Battle After Another, which is being heralded as one of the best films of the year. But while it's being read as positive depiction of left revolutionaries, Brie has never felt a bigger urge to walk out of a theatre than she did in the first 30 minutes of this movie. Is the film a misogynoir-filled anti-left psyop? A fun action caper? Both? But first, Van and Brie discuss the spate of right-leaning podcasters expressing regret about boosting Trump, what it means to have "a politics," and how to contend with the establishment's commitment to "voting blue no matter who" and blaming third parties for the Democrats' failures. Kanye made a “Betrayal List,” and somehow it includes Hitler, Curious George, and his own daughter. We don't know what's going on either. This week we're talking about:•Britney Spears posting a bunch of Orthodox Jewish men for Rosh Hashanah and just writing “I like the beard”•The new AI necklace called Friend that talks to you like a therapist and might actually take your job•Ice Cube's tour bus getting bombed because people thought it belonged to ICE (yes, really)•A guy arrested for “not having s**” on a moving truck•Kim Jong-Un banning the words “hamburger” and “ice cream”• Influencers renting fake private jets and buying $10K receipts to look rich online• And a very bleak TikTok trend that might be the saddest thing we've ever seenBasically: the internet had another meltdown and we're just here talking through it like normal people.
In this episode of the SoundCentric Podcast, Adam sits down with Hadji Gaviota for a deep dive into the realities of touring as an independent artist. Fresh off his cross-country run on “The Blind Tour” with Damag3 and Rob Apollo, Hadji breaks down the grind behind the scenes — from sleeping on couches and eating gas-station meals to discovering how to actually make money on the road. The two unpack the economics of merch, the creative strategies behind tour budgeting, and the lessons learned from performing 13 shows in three weeks. Beyond the financials, Hadji reflects on the emotional highs of meeting fans in person and the importance of building an authentic live presence. This conversation paints a full picture of the unglamorous but rewarding hustle of modern touring — a must-listen for any rising artist trying to hit the road the right way. "Who tf is JJ Fad?"The internet broke when Pitchfork dropped their Top 100 Hip-Hop Albums list - and we have THOUGHTS.This week on The Record Report, we dissect one of the most controversial music ranking lists in recent memory. From Snoop Dogg's "Doggystyle" placement sparking outrage to the glaring Southern hip-hop representation issues, we break down what these lists get right, what they get catastrophically wrong, and why publications keep rage-baiting music fans. The Pitchfork Problem: Why do music publications create lists designed to provoke rather than celebrate? We analyze the methodology behind controversial rankings and whether commercial success should matter in evaluating greatness.Southern Hip-Hop Erasure: The chronic underrepresentation of Southern artists in "definitive" hip-hop lists and why this regional bias persists in music criticism.Kanye's "Yeezus" Legacy: How this polarizing album became the blueprint for modern rage rap, influencing everyone from Travis Scott to Playboi Carti and reshaping hip-hop's sonic landscape.Jay-Z's Placement Debate: Is Hov properly represented in hip-hop history? We examine his catalog's impact and whether critics undervalue his contributions. The Glaring Omissions: From Mobb Deep's "The Infamous" to other timeless classics, we highlight the essential albums these lists consistently overlook.Young Thug's Return: Breaking down Thugger's recent comeback, the cultural conversations around his legal battles, and what his story reveals about the current state of hip-hop.Modern Hip-Hop Evolution:How streaming transformed music consumption and artist developmentThe death and resurrection of regional soundsWhy physical music sales might make a comebackThe future of authenticity in hip-hop cultureRap Feuds & Technology: From ghostwriting controversies to AI's influence on music creation, we examine how technology is transforming hip-hop's creative process and competitive landscape.Gender Dynamics: The complex conversations around masculinity, representation, and power structures in contemporary hip-hop.This episode delves into the albums, artists, and cultural forces that have shaped hip-hop's past, present, and future.

The world is a dumpster fire, confirmed. Following California's landmark AI safety bill SB 53, the head of Nvidia is allegedly "quaking in his boots"—which is a good sign, unlike the news that the "Nirvana Baby" Spencer Elden's lawsuit was finally dismissed. Meanwhile, corporate America continues its pivot to chaos: Spotify shuffled its execs, Meta is charging UK users for ad-free Facebook and Instagram, and the UK is introducing digital ID cards (Hello, Mark of the Beast). The entire internet is now dominated by bots, proving the Cracker Barrel logo outrage was manufactured, a fact that's somehow less depressing than the FCC accidentally leaking iPhone schematics. Naturally, Alphabet just paid $22 million to settle President Trump's YouTube lawsuit, confirming that legal threats are the new VC funding. Disney is panicking over an "AI Actress," sending cease and desist letters to Character.AI, while OpenAI rolls out its new Sora app and ChatGPT's ability to buy things for you, proving it's determined to turn the internet into one seamless, copyright-infringing shopping mall, and it's now worth more than Elon Musk's SpaceX.The ensuing boredom demands new media, though the pacing is terrible in everything: Slow Horses Season 5 and Human: Neanderthal Encounters are great, but even the original Matrix and Frankenstein trailer (by Guillermo del Toro) feel slow, confirming the Princess Bride litmus test. MXV's Riot Fest photos were rad, and Disney lost 1.7M subs after suspending Kimmel, which is why YouTube Music is testing AI hosts (who will only be wrong), and the Pivot Tour is happening. Our Apps & Doohickeys department confirms security is an afterthought: macOS 26 unlocked the Journal app, but the smart glasses race is fully on, and Logitech's new keyboard can be recharged by any light (finally, tech that works!). Amazon Fire TV is expected to ditch Android for Linux, Meta introduced the AI-filled Vibes feed, and Tile trackers were found to have a stalking flaw—a fact only slightly more depressing than the swift failure of the Neon call-recording app and the continued existence of the Comet browser. Finally, The Dark Side with Dave celebrated the low-budget charm of Blue Thunder and the necessity of Disney Park Ride Overlays, while Dave embarked on his quest to unbox the Home Depot R2D2. Send us a textThe Steelers pulled off a nail-biter in Dublin, topping the Vikings 24–21, but not without some drama — third-string QB Skylar Thompson was jumped and robbed on Friday night, and injuries to Jalen Ramsey and Calvin Austin II could spell trouble heading into the bye week. We also check in on the wild Clemente Wall court case, where the fan who fell 21 feet at PNC Park showed up to support his buddy facing charges. And of course, the Pittsburgh Scanner delivers: mooning neighbors, weed-smoking grandmas, lemonade kids with “guns,” and a porch visit that turned out to be just a friend. From Tai Lopez's alleged $112M Ponzi scheme to the arrest of “Penis Man,” Kanye's unhinged betrayal list, and a Jimmy Dean sausage recall for wood splinters (yes, really), this one is stacked. We've got fart stories from Arnold, Cardi B's wisdom on “favorite eaters,” and even a guy dressed as Mr. Larson from Happy Gilmore tackling the 18-18-18 golf challenge. Toss in the world's fastest 100-meter sprint on all fours, landlord IP theft, and a grandma tossing coins in a jet engine — and you've got a perfect Greenfield's Finest mix of football, chaos, and pure nonsense. All that and more on this week's episode of Greenfield's Finest Podcast!Check out our upcoming events, social media, and merch sale at the link below https://linktr.ee/GFP Spotify:https://open.spotify.com/show/7viuBywVXF4e52CHUgk1i5 Produced by Lane Media https://www.lanemediapgh.com/

We're celebrating our 10th anniversary all year by digging in the vaults to re-present classic episodes with fresh commentary. Today, we're revisiting our 2022 conversation with Roland Orzabal. ABOUT ROLAND ORZABAL AND TEARS FOR FEARS:Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith formed Tears for Fears in Bath, England, in 1981 and have gone on to sell 30 million albums worldwide. Their major breakthrough in the UK came in 1982 with the Top 5 single “Mad World” and the subsequent platinum-selling album The Hurting. They gained major steam in the US with their sophomore album Songs From the Big Chair, which included the hit singles “Everybody Wants to Rule the World,” “Shout,” and “Head Over Heels.” Featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die, Songs From the Big Chair reached #1 and was certified five times Platinum by the RIAA. Tears for Fears' follow-up single “Sowing the Seeds of Love” was another massive hit, but Curt departed the group not long after. Following a couple of albums with Orzabal at the helm, the duo reunited for the Everybody Loves a Happy Ending album in 2004. Now, after a long wait of 17 years, Roland and Curt have just released their seventh studio album The Tipping Point, and are embarking on a major tour. Even as they bring us new music, their legacy is well-established as one of the most unique and influential British groups to emerge in the last few decades. Their songs have been covered or sampled by Gary Jules, Adam Lambert, Lorde, Kanye West, Drake, and many others. And, in 2021, the band was honored with the Outstanding Song Collection honor at the Ivor Novello Awards in London. Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. Grumpy Old Geeks is back with another round of righteous griping and eyebrow-raising headlines in Episode 715: Our Wizard Lies. We kick things off in FOLLOW UP, where TikTok is still the geopolitical hot potato that both the U.S. and China promise to sort out “someday, maybe,” while Wired's global editorial director explains how tech's growing political clout is playing out under Trump. From there, it's a cavalcade of absurdities: DOGE as federal workforce demolition derby, and crypto bros trying to turn Charlie Kirk's death into meme-stock retirement plans. Late-stage capitalism is nothing if not creative. Then in IN THE NEWS, Amazon gets spanked with a $2.5 billion fine for Prime trickery, Microsoft yanks cloud services from an Israeli military unit, and Palantir goes full lifestyle brand—yes, you too can cosplay as a drone strike enthusiast with a $99 pair of gym shorts. Silicon Valley philosophers warn AI regulation would literally summon the Antichrist, while banks whisper the bubble might pop before the devil even arrives. Meanwhile, YouTube toys with letting COVID and election denialists back into the algorithm, “SIM farms” threaten New York's cell networks, and unlucky tourists are finding themselves trafficked into cyber-scam slavery across Southeast Asia. “Just being able to see you are still just a person because being a superstar is like a mask, it's like a representative, when you get in jail and fighting for your life, you realize this shit is all an act, it's all just a mask.” Young Thug In one of the most raw and captivating episodes of the year, Young Thug sits down with Ryan, Channing and Fred for an unfiltered conversation in which he opens up in like never before after beating Georgia's biggest case, enduring a trial that shook the hip-hop world and reflecting on the emotional toll of incarceration, how he navigated leaked phone calls, and the impact it all had on his family and mental health. From the moment the guys start talking, Thug is full of emotion, remorse and takes accountability for all that he's been through and put the people closest to him through- he longs for a fresh start but doesn't waiver on who he is, his manhood and doubles down on loyalty. Ryan asks Thug how things got to where they did and why he turned to the streets, despite his overwhelming success, dating back to his childhood and growing up in a house with his father as an example of family. Acknowledging the weight of the world on his shoulders, he reveals how he's been coping, exploring the range of emotions he's experiencing and understanding ways to deal with depression. He speaks candidly about his relationship with his girlfriend Mariah The Scientist and how they survived through the storm, expresses gratitude for fatherhood, and shares what kept him grounded when his future looked uncertain. In a moment of vulnerability, Thug reveals the people who didn't turn their back on him during the dark times, including Drake, Lil Baby and how Kanye and Kim Kardashian are the ones who gave him his biggest break. Thug gives fans a glimpse into his creative mindset, impact on culture, life codes, details behind his new music and how his experiences have transformed his sound and purpose. Going through emotional—now is Young Thug's most pivotal moment, as he tunes out the negative noise, ignores the criticism and embraces the chance to start over.
