For so long, I shaped my life around who I thought I needed to be—checking the boxes, playing the roles, staying safe in the familiar. But deep down, something was always stirring: a quiet knowing that I was meant for more. In this episode, I'm inviting you into the sacred space between who you've been… and who you're becoming. We'll explore what it really means to step out of your Inner Critic's identity—the one built on perfection, control, and people-pleasing—and into the version of you who's wise, whole, and wildly free. ✨ If you've been feeling restless, like you're outgrowing the life you once worked so hard to build—this conversation is your invitation to stop performing and start returning to your truth. Listen now and begin the next chapter of your life rooted in power, presence, and your Authentic Self. Your weekly reflection questions: What version of me have I been performing—and what truth have I been hiding underneath that role? Where in my life am I still letting my Inner Critic make the decisions—and what would shift if I chose from my Authentic Self instead? If I stopped waiting for permission, recognition, or certainty… what bold step would I take next?
Have you ever tried to “think your way” into feeling better, only to feel stuck in the same patterns? It's easy to fall into the belief that changing our thoughts will automatically change our emotions and habits. But what if the solution isn't about forcing yourself to think better thoughts? What if it's about understanding emotions in a deeper, more compassionate way? In this episode, I revisit the ideas I first shared on an early episode of the podcast about how to feel better. While I once believed that changing our thoughts was the key to lasting change, I now realize it's only part of the equation. By shifting from trying to manage your feelings to understanding and relating to them, you can create the lasting changes you've been seeking. In today's episode of Ten Minutes to Less Suffering, I explore the difference between constantly trying to fix ourselves and learning to fully inhabit who we already are. When we stop searching for solutions outside ourselves and begin to listen inwardly, we return to a place of clarity, presence, and strength. Affirmation: I don't chase wholeness. I remember it. Even in heartbreak, in silence, in longing—Wholeness was never gone. I am not a problem to solve. I am not waiting to be rescued. Even when I ache, I am not less. Even when I stumble, I am not lost. I begin here. As I am. Breathing. Listening. Living. Healing is not becoming someone new. It is the soft, honest return to who I've always been. I can spend my life trying to fix myself… Or I can finally choose to be myself. One is endless effort. The other is freedom. I want to be free. Here I am. Not fixing. Just being. And Maybe that… is enough. If you found this podcast enjoyable, kindly consider subscribing and leaving a rating or review. You ever feel like you've done everything right... You prepped. You trained. You put in the time. ...but you're still second-guessing yourself? That nagging voice creeps in… “You're not built for this” “You don't have what it takes” “You can't come through” Let me hit you with this… When you doubt yourself, you're not just doubting your abilities — you're doubting the God who gave them to you. That's not a humility problem. It's a faith problem. And that's exactly what I'm going after in this week's 5-Minute Drill on the Coming Up Clutch with J.R.™ show. I'm breaking down the root of self-doubt — and it's not what you think. Because your doubt? It's not about lack of skill. It's about your illusion of control. So, in this episode, I walk you through: Why your obsession with outcomes is feeding your fear The real reason your confidence crumbles under pressure Then, I give you a 3-step strategy to stop doubting and start leading with unshakable conviction and confidence. So, if you're tired of playing small… If you're sick of shouldering pressure like it's your job… Then lock in to this episode! Let's get it! In this episode, you'll hear: Why self-doubt isn't just a mindset issue — it's a faith issue. The game-changing truth I shared with a pro athlete that helped flip his entire season. How Gideon's story proves that God doesn't call the confident — He confirms the called. A 3-step strategy to stop self-doubt in its tracks and move forward with conviction. The key difference between control and management — and how that shift unlocks freedom. Why verbal declarations grounded in truth are both spiritually sound and scientifically smart. Key Quotes “When you doubt your abilities…you're actually doubting the ONE who gave you those abilities.” - J.R. “If you're putting in the work…If you're stewarding the gifts and talents and abilities God gave you…Then doubting yourself isn't a humility issue — it's a faith issue.” - J.R. “Control is about ownership. Management is about stewardship. And last I checked, we're called to be stewards, not saviors.” - J.R. Connect with J.R. Have you ever tried to change by simply thinking a new thought, only to feel frustrated when the change doesn't happen as easily as promised? The idea that if you just change your thoughts, you can change your life has been a cornerstone of personal development for years. But what if it's not the whole story? In this episode, I'm revisiting a concept from an early episode, where I taught "thinking a new thought" as the key to change. While this cognitive behavioral approach helped many of my clients, I now realize how incomplete it is. Our experience is shaped by much more than our thoughts. It's influenced by our nervous system, memories, trauma, and even cultural systems. I'll explain why thought work is useful but not enough, and why real change involves understanding the deeper layers beneath our thoughts. Sometimes it's not the job that's holding you back. Sometimes it's you! And that hurts! You'd never think that you'd be holding yourself back. You want to live a better life, so of course, you'd give it to yourself if you had the chance. Right? This week, we're speaking with someone who discovered that she was holding herself back and what she did to course-correct her life. Bianca Cervantes is the co-founder of Confianza Wealth Management and co-host of the Building Wealth From Scratch podcast. She grew up in her parents' jewelry store in a Latino working-class neighborhood, where she first witnessed the power of small business and community. After relocating to San Diego as a newlywed military spouse, Bianca faced financial stress and identity shifts that sparked her passion for personal finance. She began her career in financial services, later working with high-net-worth clients in wealth management—yet felt called to serve families like her own. After growing her and her husband's assets from $2K to $100K with the help of a financial planner, Bianca left corporate to build Confianza, a firm dedicated to empowering first-time wealth builders. Her mission is to make financial planning accessible, especially for those often overlooked by traditional firms. Bianca now empowers others to take control of their money with real talk, clear strategies, and the belief that you don't need to be rich to start building wealth—you just need a plan and a little confianza. In this week's episode, we talk to Bianca about why she was holding herself back from her most amazing life. This is a common problem I run into with my clients. They did the big flashy thing that's going to restart their life for the better. But then nothing happens. They changed their lives, but they're not any closer to their goals. Luckily, they sign up for the Courage Driven Latina program and get the guidance they're looking for. Listen to this week's episode to hear how Bianca took aligned action, stayed consistent, and became the CEO she always wanted to be. In this episode, Jeff Benjamin, Global CCO of Tombras, shares how AI helps him get unstuck, build confidence, and push bold ideas forward—even when self-doubt creeps in. From romcom scripts to Arby's pitches, he shows how AI acts as a sparring partner: sharpening thinking, stress-testing ideas, and keeping momentum alive. We get into what separates distinct from generic, why affirmation can be a trap, and how the urge to share is still at the heart of creativity. If you're chasing big ideas—or just trying to beat the blank page—this one hits home.Key Takeaways:Affirmation builds momentum—but can also blind you — One of AI's biggest features is how confidently it backs you up. That “glazing” energy feels great—but if you don't challenge it, you risk falling in love with something average. Confidence needs a counterbalance: taste. The best prompt is a person—not a question — Jeff gets better output by asking AI to role-play voices he respects—like Don Draper or a cold war-era Olympic judge. The magic isn't in better instructions. It's in asking from a more interesting perspective.Your idea is ready when it bubbles over — Jeff doesn't go to his team with half-baked concepts. He waits until the idea is bubbling—when he can't not share it. That moment is emotional, not procedural. AI helps him reach it faster—but the instinct to share is still deeply human.Big ideas have width—AI helps him see the shape — For Jeff, a great idea isn't a line—it's a landscape. If it's a real “big idea,” it spawns more ideas: social angles, activations, scripts. AI helps him test whether a concept has legs—or if it's just a clever line with no room to run.Jeff's LinkedIn: Jeff Benjamin | LinkedInTombras: Tombras | Full-Service Independent Advertising Agency00:00 Overcoming Self-Doubt in Business00:37 Meet Jeff Benjamin: Creative Leader at Tombras00:56 The Role of AI in Creative Processes02:24 Using AI as a Sparring Partner04:34 Practical Examples of AI in Action09:31 The Impact of AI on Team Dynamics11:37 Balancing AI and Human Creativity14:13 The Future of AI in Creative Industries21:06 Exploring Human Skills for AI Mastery22:09 The Art of Asking Better Questions22:40 AI as a Creative Partner24:41 The Excitement of Sharing Ideas30:09 Generational Differences in AI Interaction32:35 The Risk of AI Dehumanization38:19 Concluding Thoughts

For over two decades he's walked alongside actors, dancers, and other artists as both a talent agent and a guide through the invisible terrain of mindset, fear, self-doubt, and that sneaky self-sabotage we all bump up against when we dare to put our true selves out in the world. In this conversation, Albert opens up about how rejection isn't really rejection, how fear can be a strange protector, and how staying open to the unknown — in our art, our work, our relationships — can free us to live bigger, truer lives.I hope as you listen you feel a soft invitation to loosen your own grip a little, to see where you might be clinging too tightly to other people's scripts for you — and maybe, just maybe, to let yourself play again.Highlights:Why rejection is rarely personalHow our childhood shapes creative courageWhat fear of success really meansThe power of playing instead of performingReal stories about people pleasing, burnout, and letting go

For most of my life, I believed that money came from hard work—hustling, grinding, proving my worth. But deep down, that belief was rooted in fear and lack. In this episode, I'm sharing the truth that changed everything for me: you don't attract money by doing more—you attract it by shifting who you are on the inside. We'll explore how your Inner Critic has shaped your money story, how to unhook from deeply ingrained scarcity patterns, and how to align with the version of you who already feels worthy, abundant, and free. If you've been chasing success and still feeling like it's never enough—this is your wake-up call to stop striving and start receiving. Listen now and begin creating wealth from within. Your weekly reflection questions: What do I believe about money—and where did that belief come from? How would I think, feel, and act if I already trusted that abundance is who I am? In what ways is my Inner Critic still convincing me that I have to earn my worth? What's the one thing all entrepreneurs have in common? You guessed it: Self-Doubt. While it's only natural to have emotions around building your business, engaging the right support can help owners confidently launch plans into action, side stepping the derailments that the DIY-ers will waste time and money fixing. Join Jamie and Polaris CEO, Diwakar Sinha, for a conversation around the considerations that need to happen BEFORE you build, and how a personal Discovery Day can lay out an efficient, winning strategy for success.
In this episode, Cindy Esliger discusses negativity bias, the tendency we have to look for what's going wrong when we're in an environment that doesn't affirm or value our contributions. This focus on the negative isn't out of pessimism, but is a survival strategy. However, the more we allow ourselves to focus on the negative, the more it feels like the truth. Cindy examines how this happens and what it takes to change our mindset and challenge the negative patterns. Breaking free of self-limiting narratives is possible, and Cindy explains how it's done. Negativity is rarely something we consciously choose. It's a survival technique that becomes a default way of thinking over time. The first step to breaking the pattern, therefore, is acknowledging how easy it is to focus on the negative. Cindy addresses how the habit forms and what we unconsciously do to feed it. When we understand how we're responding to negative input or a toxic environment, we can identify where the self-doubt takes root. She presents the idea of shifting the pattern of our input to reframe our mindset. Cindy's advice on breaking the cycle of negativity includes making a choice not to let our challenges be the only story we tell ourselves. By giving ourselves permission to believe that outcomes other than negative ones are possible, we start to retrain our brains to identify opportunity as well as risk. Cindy talks about the pitfalls of internalized comparison and the glorification of suffering for suffering's sake. She breaks down how these add to negative bias and work against our success. Instead, she advises giving ourselves the benefit of the doubt so can alter our own mindset and outlook. Have you ever received a compliment or acknowledged a success, only to immediately deflect or downplay it? Or perhaps you've accomplished something meaningful but instead of feeling proud, you start to focus on what could have been better? This tendency to minimize our strengths and dismiss our progress can be so automatic that we don't even realize we're doing it. In this episode, I explore why we minimize ourselves and how to relate to this habit differently. What I once saw as just a bad mental habit to fix, I now understand as a protective strategy—a part of us trying to keep us safe from vulnerability, judgment, or failure. Through the lens of Internal Family Systems, embodiment, and nervous system regulation, I'll show you how this tendency serves a purpose and how we can start to shift it. One opening left starting this summer as of now.A coach I worked with kept backsliding. In session, their certainty would click in. But a day or two later, that dissolved and in its place was paralyzing overwhelm and doubt. We'd meet again and their sense of purpose would roll back in. They left the session feeling sure of their direction and ready to take action, only to get stuck in another deep internal struggle.I remember that lost feeling as a new coach. I didn't believe that I had what it takes, so I got in my own way.Comparison was the trigger. And that's what stole away my client's sense of purpose … they kept looking at other coach's websites and social profiles.Shame spiraled into this dark story. Their internal dialogue was:I'm not good enough. This will never work.Maybe I should give up!How can you stop this downward spiral?I'd love to hear from you. In this episode, I explore how fear can quietly influence our lives—whether it's fear of being seen, fear of success, impostor syndrome, or the fear of not being enough or financially secure. I share how fear is simply energy and how we have the power to redirect that energy toward faith. I walk you through a process I call “flipping the script,” where you recognize fear-based thoughts and replace them with affirmations that ground you in faith and worthiness. This episode is all about learning to catch fear in the moment, release it, and consciously choose a path of trust, confidence, and empowerment. Welcome to episode 212 where we talk about 'Making Sense of Mind Chatter'. Ever feel like your brain just won't stop talking? That constant swirl of thoughts—whether it's fear, doubt, self-criticism, or overwhelm—is what I like to call mind chatter. In this episode, I break down that chatter into three distinct voices: the sleepy sloth, the yappy dog, and the wise owl. Each one has something to say—and believe it or not, they all matter. Together, we explore how to identify which voice is speaking up in your mind, how each one feels, and how to respond with more clarity and confidence. You'll learn that none of these thoughts make you broken or weak—it just means you're human. And by recognizing these voices instead of reacting to them, you gain more emotional maturity, more peace, and more power to create the mission and life you truly want. Whether you're preparing to serve, currently on your mission, adjusting to post-mission life, or supporting someone who is, this episode will help you understand your brain better—and maybe even befriend that noisy mind of yours. As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review. How do you stay true to your values when others are playing political games? What if your purpose feels too small compared to others? And how do we raise kids who can handle life's inevitable hard blows? We're back for Part 2 of our special Finding Mastery Ask Me Anything with Dr. Michael Gervais and our good friend—author, documentarian, podcaster, football analyst, and renaissance man, Yogi Roth.
