Happy Monday, Fabulous Listener! Welcome to Inside the Minds of Authors. A podcast dedicated to bringing you passionate authors with exciting books. This evening we have the pleasure of talking to the talented Mr. Patrick Greenwood. We are chatting about his upcoming book, The Shores of Okinawa, that will release Memorial Day. Patrick Greenwood, after military service, embarked on a 25-year career in the information technology field, working in various roles in sales, engineering, support, and design. His inspiration for writing came from his business travels to places like Vietnam, China, Japan, Taiwan, and Portugal. A true believer in listening to one's passion, Patrick began writing in early 2020 based on several trips he made while cycling in various countries. In his debut award-winning novel, “Sunrise in Saigon,” Patrick draws upon several non-fictional events in Vietnam, including the war with the US, the last days of Saigon falling, and the chaos at the US embassy. Patrick's follow-up novel, “The Shores of Okinawa,” continues the Jack Kendall series with even more intrigue and suspense! When Patrick isn't writing his next novel, ghostwriting for cybersecurity companies, or writing blogs, he hosts the award-winning podcast, “Writers on Writers over a triple espresso.” The podcast broadcasts live on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10:00 am PST. To learn more about Patrick, the books or the podcast, check out his website- www.cyclewriterllc.com. If you are enjoying the podcast and would like to stay in touch, subscribe. On today's episode I have the pleasure of talking to Blogger & Podcaster , Host Of Chronicles Of A Virgo - Chiquita Johnson. Her goal is to spread positivity on numerous topics from mental health, self-care, self-love, spirituality and many other topics as well as open up my platform for other creators and professionals to also spread their knowledge and experiences. A Baltimore native, Chiquita grew up full of life, loving to laugh and spend time with friends and loved ones while also facing many dark moments. After enduring her own share of traumatic encounters and dealing with her own share of personal mental health issues, Chiquita wanted to deepen her healing while also trying to help and encourage others to do the same. In 2019 , Chiquita decided to start her own blog to clear the air about things she had endured, but to also encourage others to never give up on themselves. Chiquita is a true testament of not giving up on yourself and how when true healing takes place in your life it opens new doors and opportunities to explore in life. Dr. Turner, a first-generation college student, is a Louisiana native (born and raised in Baton Rouge) who discovered his interest in psychology later in his undergraduate career while attending Louisiana State University (LSU). He originally had plans to become a pediatrician and go to medical school but after taking a child psychology course, he knew this was the right fit for him as he wanted to help children and families. In this podcast, Dr. Turner shares how this drive and passion helped guide him during his academic career as he earned his M.S. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology at Texas A&M University. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship in Baltimore, MD through the Kennedy Krieger Institute which is a children's hospital affiliated with Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Turner is an Assistant Professor of Psychology at Pepperdine University where he teaches courses on multicultural psychology, research methodology, and child psychopathology. He is also a licensed clinical psychologist. In the clinical setting, he is known as “Dr. Earl” and he incorporated this into the title of his mental health podcast “The Breakdown with Dr. Earl” which focuses on issues related to Black men and boys. He also addresses the stigma in the Black community by changing the way people view seeking therapy or mental health. Dr. Earl increases awareness of, and treatment for, different types of mental health issues and highlights Black professionals and therapists on the show. Dr. “Earl” Turner is a mental health advocate and writes a blog “The Race to Good Health” and is Founder and Executive Director of Therapy for Black Kids (T4BK). He explains that the idea for T4BK came to him during the pandemic, but the content and website wasn't released until earlier this year in February. He recognized that as a result of the “subtle racial reckoning this last summer” most of the conversations were focused on adults and not so much on kids, specifically Black kids. Therefore, he created Therapy for Black Kids to provide information and resources to “help parents deal with the challenges of racial injustice and foster resilience to promote healthy development.” During the podcast interview, Dr. Turner's drive and passion shines through and he admits that his favorite approach is using cognitive theories in his research as it shapes our life and our interactions. When I asked him what the most important thing he has learned in life, he responded “continue fighting for whatever is important to you.” Connect with Dr. Turner: Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter | Instagram | Youtube | WebsiteConnect with the Show: Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter https://vimeo.com/567216486 Interests and Specializations Over the last 10-15 years, Dr. Turner has served in leadership positions within the American Psychological Association (APA), published research, served on editorial boards, and provided therapy services for children, adolescents, and adults with behavioral and emotional problems such as depression, anxiety, and stress management. He also specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of disruptive behavior disorders such as Conduct Disorder, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and developmental disorders (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder). What You'll Learn From This Episode: How employees' experience is important to customer service Mapping out a customer journey Difference between customer experience and service Related Links and Resources: I would recommend www.doingcxright.com where there's ton of blog articles, they're all 'how to' tips, every single one of them. There's podcast shows there that you'll find. There's a book 'Customer Experience 2' which I was a part of the book with 24 authors that you'll really understand from a lot of different views about doing it right. They can access it there. Summary: Imagine always having amazing customer and employee experiences. That's Stacy Sherman's mission. She's a business leader, mentor, Author, Forbes Writer. Blogger Podcaster about DOING Customer and Employee Experience Right as a brand differentiator.  Stacy is literally walking the talk.. By Day, she is the Director of CX & employee engagement at a large corporation and By night, she's helping people learn and apply CX best practices to gain loyalty and real results You can learn about her Heart & Science™️ approach at  www.DoingCXRight.com Here are the highlights of this episode: 1:32 Stacy's ideal Client: It is business growth entrepreneurs and midsize corporate leaders; it is everybody in business. Because we all have the opportunity to create amazing experiences for customers, for consumers, which we all are as well. We're all buying products and services. So, it impacts us in many ways. 2:06 Problem Stacy helps solve: Frustration; people are having such frustration and they're losing patience too. To be able to get what they want to do. It's not simple, it's not easy. And so, it doesn't have to be that way. Doing customer experience right which involves employees. When employees have good experiences, they pay it forward to the customer. We don't need to be frustrated at all. 3:08 Typical symptoms that clients do before reaching out to Stacy: If anyone is really not sure why their customers are either leaving or they're posting on social media bad reviews, that's where I come in. It's really to understand what is it you're doing or not doing and that's where I can really advise. And there's a whole methodical way of doing that. That's what I do by day in how I can help others understand the best practices to measure and do something with those insights. 4:04 What are some of the common mistakes that folks make before finding Stacy and her solution: They do exactly that, they try to solve it from the inside of the company view themselves instead of talking to the customer and asking the customer what do they need and what do they want. So, it's important to map out a customer journey, walk-in the customer's shoes. Design what the experience would be and then go validate it with a real customer, so you'll understand the gaps. 4:48 Stacy's Valuable Free Action (VFA): I recommend reading a lot about customer experience. Connect with people like me who are advisors on how to do it right. There's a 'crawl, walk, run' approach which is my belief. You just have to start; you don't have to worry about all these methodical ways of doing it. Sometimes you it's just get the basics right. Get really smart, and there's actually University courses now that are offering certification. I highly encourage it and if anybody wants to know about that, I can share. It's really a good way to get those actionable things that you can do. 5:49 Stacy's Valuable Free Resource (VFR): I would recommend doingcxright.com where there's ton of blog articles, they're all 'how to' tips, every single one of them. Interested in quitting your corporate job to start your freelance career? This is the episode for you! Today's guest is the lovely Katy Bellotte! This interview is so exciting for me because I've been a fan of Katy's for such a long time. I feel like I've known her at this point because I remember watching her high school doing makeup tutorials, then when she went off to university and then exchange, got her first job, and moved to NYC and she's still one of my favorite Youtuber's to this day. She now has almost half a million subscribers and a large following on her social channels. I know there are a lot of content creators out there now, and I've even interviewed a few on my podcast, but I believe that the content that Katy is creating is so authentic and really different from what I've seen out there. At only 24, it feels like she's lived a lifetime and gives some really great advice in her videos and her podcast "Thick & Thin'. In this episode, we talk about how she left her seemingly "dream corporate job: at L'OREAL Paris to pursue freelance, ins and outs of working for yourself and getting clients, how she got started on Youtube and her streams of income, her successful podcast, and advice she has for college students. In 2010, Johnny FD started documenting his experiences living in Thailand after being laid off from his job in California. Eventually, he started posting monthly income expense reports that detailed every source of his income and it was one of these reports that first led me to discover Johnny's blog. At that time, I found Johnny's story very inspiring because he was close to my age and didn't come from a wealthy background or have a huge amount of savings to start from. He was simply trying things out and seeing what worked and what didn't. Over the years, Johnny FD has become a major name in the digital nomad scene and has also built up a total of 14 different income streams. During this incredibly difficult time in the world when so many of us have lost our jobs, I thought it would be a fantastic opportunity to ask Johnny how he built up his income streams and for advice on how to do it when you're first starting out. From blogging to podcasting to online course creation, different ways to invest in the stock market, and planning for retirement, Johnny and I cover a lot of ground in this episode. Loh Yi Jun trained as a chemical engineer, but now draws his income from blogging about new fusion recipes he is creating, guest writing for other food blogs and running a podcast on the Malaysian food scene. We talk about the challenges and joys of being a freelance blog writer.Yi Jun (instagram: @yijunjunn; http://junandtonic.com) is a chemical engineer turned chef, food writer, and podcaster. At 23, right after graduating from Cambridge, he took a plunge and dived headfirst into the world of food—signing up for culinary school in London and Paris, working at the farm-to-table restaurant Blue Hill at Stone Barns in New York, and now running his own food blog and podcast, Breaking Bread. His Saveur-nominated blog—Jun & Tonic—explores the quirky side of Asian food and cooking. His articles on food have also featured on Food52 and Taste.Check out Yi Jun’s food blog here and his podcast here. 3 Things I LearnedSide projects may be an interesting way of developing new skills. Yi Jun got into blogging because he wanted to improve his English writing, and he got into podcasting because he thought it would improve him as a conversationalist and would force him to be responsible for keeping the conversation interesting. But he makes the process of learning these new skills fun and enjoyable for himself because he uses them for something he is passionate about - food Consistency is key for content producers. But it’s useful to examine how it affects you internally. Once you stop, you lose momentum, lose motivation and you break your streak. So keep showing up. (For podcasters like me) Yi Jun’s rule-of-thumb for guest selection: find people whom you think are interesting and whom you’d like to speak to. If you follow your area of interest closely and keep up to date with what’s new and exciting, chances are you’d have quite a good barometer for what would engage your audience as well.

His articles on food have also featured on Food52 and Taste.Check out Yi Jun’s food blog here and his podcast here. 3 things I learnedIt was just so fun to learn more about the world of food and high-end restaurants. I learned about the French kitchen brigade system, the trends in cooking (molecular gastronomy and the farm-to-table movement) and what a chef’s life is like on a day-to-day basis. Working as a chef is far more difficult than I imagined. Think 14 hour days (11am-1am) all the time on your feet, half hour dinner breaks and not seeing your friends because you have to work on the weekends. There’s also a culture of starging, where you work as an intern at a renowned restaurant and get food and lodging provided but earn nothing / a minimal stipend. Yi Jun’s time at Blue Hill taught him loads, but also made him realise that he did not want to work as a chef. Yi Jun made a great point about kindness in the midst of stressful situations. Whilst tempers often flared in the high stress environment of a kitchen, the people who made the biggest impact on him were those who approached tense situations with a high degree of kindness. I’m reminded of how lots of other professions are stressful too, but it’s the people who can keep their cool and keep being kind that command the most respect. If you have enjoyed this episode of The Alternative CV Podcast please subscribe, share this episode and leave a comment or review so that I know what you like and what I can do better on. Her blog Podcreatures is an interview series with different podcasters in the Toronto area, and we thought it might be funny to interview her for change. Firstly, Michael and Marianna dig into the topic of podcasting; with a discussion on platforming jerks, assholes, and criminals and whether or not that legitimizes them or lets them be their own bad PR. They share ideas about making money as a podcaster, the value of hobbyists in field that keeps adding pros, the particular business of Get a Grip Studios. After an extended tangent about LiFi, transhumanism, and skin care we come back to the question of the future of the medium and whether we just missed the golden age of the free podcast. Eventually, Marianna turns the tables on Michael asking about LSD, time travel, self-evaluation, dogs, farming, family, assumption-making, China and global conquest, prayer, meditation, and how its easier to maintain empathy for animals than people. I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is like the working of his mighty strength, which he exerted in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every title that can be given, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills everything in every way.”   Ephesians 2:8–10 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith – and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God – not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God‘s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.“   Ephesians 2:13 “But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.“   Philippians 1:6 “being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.”

Emily founded her blog Pretty Normal Me in 2014, in her words, after basically looking at life around her and asking: what the hell?! Despite being an inherently very happy person, she felt surrounded by a world that was against her: a world that forces us into clothes that makes us cry, a world that objectifies women and a world that seems to body shame us at every opportunity. So she did the only thing she knew how to do: she wrote. Those musings became a blog, and later a podcast, and now Emily’s debut book ‘Can I Speak To Someone In Charge’ has just hit book stores nationwide. Growing up with a famous father and the media spotlight upon her made her online journey harder than most, with Emily experiencing trolls and criticism at every turn. However, she’s turned those negative experiences and teenage anxieties into a positive force and an incessant need to help others. Follow Emily on Twitter: @prettynormalme

OK, so you’ve created a great project and now you want some publicity. But how do you reach out to the news media? There’s a right way and a wrong way. Are you sprayin’ and prayin’? Are you issuing a press release addressed to everybody you happen to know and lots of people you don’t know (and no one in particular)? Well, good luck with that! This episode finds Marvin interviewing former newspaper journalist and now podcaster/blogger Karen Unland to discuss how to pitch delightful and insightful stories to the new and traditional news media who can potentially help spread the word about your particular creative project. One little win at a time. You don’t have to know everybody at every level in the media to generate some interest in your work. You just need to know someone who knows someone and can put in a good word for you and produce for them a great looking or sounding pitch of how you can help that media outlet please their readers, viewers and followers. Karen outlines and describes the simple steps to take. The rest is up to you. It wasn’t discussed in detail during the interview, but you may also be interested in learning that Karen is pulling together a regional community with regular meet-ups to discuss how to leverage relationships and promotional opportunities among podcasters/bloggers. You could start a similar grass roots movement in your own city. Find new friends and allies. Authentic relationships and follow-through are two key success factors, whatever your creative endeavour. 043 Planning for Tomorrow Without Sacrificing Today - Roger Whitney, Blogger/Podcaster at Retirement Answer Man

Retirement planning doesn't have to be boring, and it doesn't mean you have to sacrifice today to afford a better life tomorrow. In this episode, Retirement Answer Man Roger Whitney and I discuss the different strategies you can try to plan for a better, richer future. Long episode description: Roger Whitney sure is the Retirement Answer Man. Not only does he have his own personal finance blog and podcastfocused on retirement, he’s also a CFP®, CIMA®, CPWA® and AIF®. That’s a lot of designations, so he I knew he’d be the one to turn to to chat about retirement planning.  Now, Roger has a very interesting story. I definitely encourage you to watch the video I’ve included below where he goes more in-depth about his background, but for the Coles Notes version Roger is so passionate about educating others about retirement planning because of his mom. You see, he was raised by a single mom who worked tirelessly to provide for her family. Her plan was to work hard today so she could relax and enjoy life in retirement. Unfortunately, she passed away at an early age and was never able to experience that quiet and calm retired life she always dreamed of. Roger believes you shouldn’t work hard today for a better tomorrow. You should work hard today for a better today, and a better tomorrow. The traditional idea of retirement is that we all work hard and save as much as we can so once we retire at 65+ we can finally enjoy the fruits of our labour. But that’s not realistic is it? Not one of us can predict how long we’ll live, or if we’ll be physically able or healthy enough to have that perfect retired life we see in all those life insurance ads in our twilight years. That’s why it’s time to chuck that old idea out the door and replace it with a new one. One new idea would be to do mini-retirements like Roger and I discuss. Instead of holding out to travel the world in retirement, why not take a year off from work to travel now, then go back to work after? My friend Stephanie Williams, who was one of my first podcast guests, does this every six months and I know more of us could be doing this too. As I mentioned earlier, Roger has his own podcast, and he even encourages his listeners to send him questions he can answer in a later episode. If any of you have some specific questions about retirement after listening to my episode, click here to send Roger your question. He’s got over 24 years experience in the field, so I doubt you’d be able to stump him. Adam's guest on this episode is James Altucher , a successful entrepreneur, investor, board member, bestselling author, and blogger. He also recently became a podcaster, hosting the popular twice-a-week James Altucher Show and the daily Ask Altucher. They have a spirited conversation about why it's important to “choose yourself,” which is the title and topic of James' recent book . James relates this credo to podcasting, which lets producers sidestep the traditional media gatekeepers to reach audiences directly. He also considers the value of podcast advertising, and how sponsors help validate a show. Finally they talk about why James—as an investor and a host/producer—is bullish on podcasting, and how he is improving his craft.

Hi Internet! This is Genevieve, this is the AP Collection, this is a chat with another local blogger and podcaster, Ben Ostroff! He is the Ben part of BenReallyRickWhat, a movie podcast that discusses film pairings. Ben is a cool dude and a real film nerd. We will learning this review that the two of us have opposite opinions but love talking about it! There is a little Oscar talk a (this is being released the Thursday prior to the big award show) I also wanted to watch a movie and talk with Ben about it just for the hell of it which is exactly what we did. I almost never go to the movies and he has practically seen everything so I decided to peruse Netflix for something and we settled on “End of Watch” which I had heard mixed things about. Figuring this would provoke discussion, we dove in! I stand by my statement of not really understanding the timeline of that movie really at all. Otherwise I dig a good action movie and it delivered while brining you face to face with a small part of Los Angeles that I am completely unfamiliar with.  Anyway, enjoy! FYI! This is filled with spoilers Ben Ostroff BenReallyRickWhat Podcast website @bensucks on Twitter @Ben_sucks on Instagram Photo credit for all pictures on this page: Jerome Charles
