Settle in as we open our hearts to God's Word and let His grace transform us together. TODAY'S DEVOTION: It's a matter of principle. For followers of Jesus, there is a motivating principle that surpasses all others—the cross. In today's reading, we're reminded by Paul that it is not religious piety, not personal aspirations, achievements, or even politics, that form the foundation of our life. These things may have their place, they may serve the world in certain ways, but they are not what we are called to live by, or live for. Paul declares, "May I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ." The cross stands as the central principle—the banner under which we live. Because of the cross, our interest in the fleeting things of this world has been crucified, and the world's interest in us has died. What matters most is whether we have been transformed into a new creation in Christ. This new creation was made possible at the cross, where the Creator was undone for us, so that something new could be born through him in us. It is now his life that expresses itself in love through us, and this, Paul tells us, is what really counts. "May God's peace and mercy be upon all who live by this principle," Paul writes. "They are the new people of God." This is the principle: from the cross, through his new people, God moves out into the world, making all things new. As God's new creation, you are invited to build your life on him, to live in the joy, the strength, and the wisdom that Jesus won for you on the cross. So let's make this our prayer: to let this principle govern our lives, our families, our communities. Let the transforming love of Christ, shown at the cross, become the foundation of all that we do. May it shape our heart, our mind, our relationships, and our purpose. This is my prayer for my own soul, for my family, for my wife, my daughters, my son—and for you. May it be so. I greet you in Jesus' precious name! It is Friday morning, the 7th of November, 2025, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for the day. We go to the Book of Deuteronomy 9:19-20:“But the Lord listened to me at that time also. And the Lord was very angry with Aaron and would have destroyed him; so I prayed for Aaron also at the same time.“ The Lord changed His mind! The Creator of Heaven and Earth and everything in it, listened to His creation and changed His mind! Remember what happened? Moses was up the mountain on Mt Sinai getting the Ten Commandments from the Lord and the Lord said to him, “What's that noise I hear down there?” And of course what had happened was the children of Israel were impatient. They had been waiting for their leader, Moses, for 40 days and 40 nights and he hadn't come down, and they thought maybe he had died, so they said to Aaron, “Let us make an idol out of gold, a golden calf.” Now, that angered the Lord so much. Can you imagine? God was so angry, probably so disappointed as well that He was going to wipe off the face of the earth, the children of Israel and you and I would not have been here today if that had happened, but one man, Moses, said, “Lord, You can't do that because the Egyptians and all the other nations of the world will mock You.” The Bible tells us very clearly that the Lord relented. What does “relent” mean? It means finally agreeing to something after first refusing it. He said, “I am going to blot them off the face of the earth.” Moses said, “You can't do that Lord,” and the Bible says that God relented. What an incredible God we serve that He would even listen to His creation! When I was farming, I would often stop and have a chat to my tractor driver or my stockman and ask him questions, and we'd have a chat, and he felt that he could talk to me because I was definitely not superior to him, although some farmers maybe won't listen to their workers. He would explain to me something that he had learnt on another farm - a better way of maybe looking after the cattle, a better way of building fences - and I tell you what, it cost nothing and I would be going in this direction and after talking to this worker, I would change my mind and say, “You know something, your idea is much better and I'm going to do it.” And it worked and it also paid off.Today, don't be proud. The storm that stripped every branch now reveals the pattern of the tree. This is kataskēnōsis—the indwelling after the descent, the moment when light stops striving to travel and begins to dwell. Where katabolē laid the foundations of mercy through surrender, kataskēnōsis builds the house of wisdom through remembrance. Psalm 88 ends in darkness; Psalm 89 begins with song. Between them lies the narrow bridge where endurance becomes illumination. Heman cries from the pit, Ethan remembers covenant from the shore, and in their harmony Solomon rises—the equilibrium of grief and glory. His wisdom does not flee the night; it learns to house it. The Temple itself is built from this revelation: stone remembering storm, gold remembering fire. To dwell is not to rest from labor but to let meaning and matter coexist. When the spirit abides in what it once resisted, coherence appears. Kataskēnōsis is this sacred equilibrium—presence inhabiting what pain prepared. The world itself waits for this balance: creation groaning until consciousness and form are reconciled. In the east, revelation blazed like dawn; in the west, it rests like evening light over water.
