Zhubin Parang, who has been with The Daily Show since the first time around with Jon Stewart, fully recognizes that among the many characters in the musical Les Misérables, only Javert really has an actual character arc. Only he goes somewhere over the course of the story. The rest kind of hold their ground, face grim adversity, and sing sing sing. That's all good with Zhubin, he loves the crap out of Les Mis and has seen it many times and, in order to put you to sleep, Zhubin is hear to tell you EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENS IN LES MIS. I mean, that ought to do it, right? Les Mis without the singing or the acting or the sets and costumes? Just... plot points? We're dreaming a dream of you dreaming, Sleepyheads. Pair that with Jon Stewart's interview of John Fetterman, where Stewart calmly walked him to the admission that support for Israel is the line. Agreement on nearly everything else does not matter if a Democrat breaks on that one. Meanwhile Zohran Mamdani ran on affordability and taxing the rich and won. That is the pattern across these races, and it keeps getting explained as anything other than candidates listening to voters. Then Wisconsin. Francesca Hong lost a very close primary to David Crowley, who would be the first Black governor in the state's history. Hawk's frustration is with the response already appearing in comments, that the winner now has to earn a vote in November. The primary was that. Whoever the nominee is, the alternative in Wisconsin and in Texas is the Republican. Simple 6 signup link https://simple6.co/r/CFUR98 Telegram's App Store Scare Apple briefly yanked Telegram from the App Store after an extortionist planted AI-doctored illegal content in a public group by editing an old message, exploiting a blind spot in moderation visibility. https://x.com/durov/status/2084686326540996625 Telegram founder Pavel Durov revealed Apple pulled Telegram from the App Store overnight and restored it within hours, after an attacker identified as a "takedown extortionist" who demands ransom from group owners under threat of triggering platform bans used automated accounts to insert AI-modified illegal pornographic content by editing an old message in an active public chat, effectively backdating and hiding it from members' view/report tools; Durov argues Apple removed the app before contacting Telegram, exposing a systemic risk that any app with over a billion users hosting user-generated content could face sudden removal from coordinated reporting attacks, and warns other platforms may be less prepared than Telegram to detect these evolving tactics. Black Hat 2026 Black Hat 2026 rolled out a dedicated AI Summit track and an even bigger startup floor — but ask the vendors a follow-up question and half of them read straight back off the slide. Chris Louie, Tyson Kindler, and Brian Weber clocked Black Hat 2026's floor as noticeably bigger than any pre-COVID year, with a new standalone AI Summit track (badge-visible attendees) and Chris estimating roughly 40-46% of startup names were unfamiliar to a 20-year industry veteran; the crew roasted booth reps who couldn't get past their slide deck when pressed ("tell me more" met with dead air), pivoted into DEF CON 34 deepfake territory, referencing last year's "real or AI-generated?" quiz booth that stumped a surprising number of attendees, and their own AI-manipulated group photo from Black Hat 2025 Enshitification of Vegas Check-In Vegas's cab lobby is apparently still out here physically rerouting Ubers — and yes, Cory Doctorow's favorite term made its annual appearance. In a recurring bit referencing Cory Doctorow (who coined "enshittification" and recently discussed platform decay on Jon Stewart's podcast), Chris described a traffic marshal at Mandalay Bay physically blocking his rideshare from a taxi-only pickup lane, forcing a 20-minute detour through an underground garage, while Uber/Lyft surge pricing hit $33-43 for trips that walk-up cabs covered for $10-13 during the same conference window; the group debated whether the taxi lobby's friction tactics (echoes of NYC's collapsed medallion cartel) count as fair pushback against rideshare, landing on the broader point that Uber, Lyft, and Airbnb, no longer VC-subsidized and now under pressure to actually turn a profit, quietly stopped being cheaper than the thing they set out to disrupt. Vegas Bartenders Ditch the Free Pour Vegas bartenders have quietly swapped free-pouring for measuring cups this year The crew (including self-described 6-year bartending veteran Brian Weber) noticed nearly every bartender working on The Strip now measures pours with jiggers/measuring cups instead of the traditional four-count free pour by sight, time, or feel, chalking it up to corporate liability policy amid $20 cocktails and joking about inevitable "shrinkflation" via smaller cups; the tangent detoured into a plug for the Cocktail Party app, road-tested across 16 years of DEF CON parties as a "here's what I have, what can I make" tool, as the lower-effort alternative to repeatedly asking ChatGPT the same question. San Diego Comic-Con 2026 Highlights: What Fans Need to Know Are you ready for the latest buzz from San Diego Comic-Con? In this post, we'll recap the major announcements, trailers, and surprises from one of the most exciting weekends in pop culture. Comic-Con 2026 has proven to be a standout event, particularly for Marvel and its competitors, as they unveiled thrilling new projects that promise to captivate fans. Let's dive into what made this Comic-Con unforgettable! Marvel Takes Center Stage Marvel absolutely dominated Comic-Con 2026, showcasing their upcoming projects with excitement and flair. One of the most talked-about announcements was Ryan Gosling’s role as Ghost Rider. This unexpected casting choice has fans buzzing, as Gosling’s range as an actor could bring a fresh take on the iconic character. His ability to convey both depth and intensity might just make him the perfect fit for Johnny Blaze. Why Ghost Rider Matters Ghost Rider has historically been a challenging character to adapt, with past attempts falling flat. However, Marvel’s current trajectory suggests they are ready to tackle this supernatural hero with the seriousness it deserves. The involvement of director Sean Levy, known for his work on Deadpool, adds an extra layer of confidence to this project. With Marvel expanding its supernatural universe, Ghost Rider could become a pivotal character alongside titles like Moon Knight and Blade. The Avengers Assemble Again Marvel also revealed extended footage from the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. While details remain under wraps, early reactions suggest that Doctor Doom will emerge as a formidable villain, and fans are eager to see how the X-Men will integrate into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Notably, Peggy Carter's return and Deadpool's surprise appearance during the presentation left audiences electrified, proving that Marvel knows how to create memorable moments that resonate with fans. DC Strikes Back While Marvel stole the spotlight, DC made significant strides with their presentation of the Lanterns series. This new direction appears to focus on mystery and character development, moving away from the big-budget spectacles that have defined past DC films. By exploring a detective story featuring Green Lanterns Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart, DC seems poised to offer a fresh perspective that could redefine its cinematic universe. The Importance of a Strong Narrative This approach signifies a shift in DC’s strategy, emphasizing storytelling over spectacle. By leaning into character-driven narratives, DC might finally capture the essence of what makes their heroes compelling. The potential for rich storytelling in the Lanterns series could set a new standard for future DC projects. Apple TV Plus Emerges as a Sci-Fi Contender Apple TV Plus has quietly become a contender in the science fiction genre, showcasing series like Foundation, Silo, and the newly announced Necromancer. This platform’s commitment to intelligent storytelling is commendable, as they invest in unique narratives rather than relying solely on existing franchises. Necromancer, in particular, has garnered attention for its long-awaited adaptation of a beloved cyberpunk classic, raising expectations for high-quality content. The Future of Sci-Fi As we look ahead, the success of these franchises suggests a promising future for science fiction in film and television. With increased competition among studios, fans can expect more innovative storytelling and diverse genres. The combination of established IPs and fresh ideas is bound to lead to exciting developments, ensuring that Comic-Con continues to be a launching pad for the next big hits in pop culture. Conclusion San Diego Comic-Con 2026 was a whirlwind of excitement, showcasing the best of what's to come in the realms of sci-fi and superhero storytelling. With Marvel leading the charge and DC reimagining its approach, fans have much to look forward to in the coming years. Whether you're a die-hard superhero fan or a casual viewer, there's something for everyone to be excited about. Share your favorite moments from Comic-Con with us, and stay tuned for future updates! Using computational modelling and Bayesian statistical methods, coupled with online real-time behavioral experimentation, he is quantitatively approaching human social behavior and group dynamics. He also uses mathematical models to study population dynamics and evolutionary games. In this episode, we start by talking about social learning: what it is, and how it is studied. We discuss why we learn from others, when we copy others, and how we learn from others despite our individual differences. Welcome back to The Majority Report On today's program: Five states had held primary elections last night and overall, it was pretty good night for progressives. In Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed defeated Haley Stevens in the Senate primary, and the two DSA-candidates running for Congress, Will Lawrence and Donovan McKinney, won their primaries. Mallory McMorrow wastes no time in endorsing El-Sayed for Seante and even introduced him at his victory speech in Detroit. El-Sayed laid into his Republican opponent Mike Rogers for being a bootlicking, corporate puppet and the Democrat promised to send Rogers back to Florida. Stephanie Mencimer, journalist at Mother Jones' D.C. bureau, joins the program to discuss her piece: "The IRS is Imploding". In The Fun Half: Bill Maher monologues on the DSA "colonizing" the Democratic party. On CNN, Harry Enten presents some positive polling for James Talarico. Rep. Max Miller is making the media rounds to defend himself against domestic abuse allegations and to blackmail his former father-in-law, Sen. Bernie Moreno. Jon Stewart tries to get John Fetterman to explain why Israel is a red line for him, but the Senator can't not understand the question. all that and more. When Democrats can't agree on Democratic priorities, you know something is wrong. It was evident on Monday's installment of ‘The Weekly Show.' Host Jon Stewart questioned Pennsylvania's Democratic Senator John Fetterman about his threats to leave the Democratic Party because he feels there is insufficient support for Israel. To Fetterman's claim that Israel is his "red line," Stewart said "Israel is not our country." Today's guests include: Former federal prosecutor David Katz. We will ask him about Todd Blanche, the dropped reflecting pool cases and the possibility that the UK could open an investigation into Jeffrey Epstein and what that might mean here in America. Author and political analyst Jared Yates Sexton. The political conversation continues with Jared Yates Sexton. His take on the issues of the day will leave you thinking long after the show is over. Find Jared at: https://www.jysexton.com Substack - https://jaredyatessexton.substack.com/ “It's the Planet , Stupid!” with eco- journalist Belinda Waymouth. Belinda will share details about continued grant funding at the EPA, damage to the environment from wildfires and a new trend involving ‘do it yourself' solar projects.
Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a pervasive topic of conversation these days, and recently it's been on my mind a lot as I endeavor to move past grief. It's been over 5 years since my life partner departed suddenly - so suddenly that when it was happening, and for a long time after, I completely denied its reality. We know that death comes for us all, and no matter what age you are it's probably best to prepare yourself, to make friends with the Reaper, and get ready to surrender to his scythe - (I heard that George Harrison used to rehearse his passing); Sarah Bernhardt slept in a coffin… but, very few of us are truly prepared, even at some pretty advanced ages - my father wasn't reconciled to his fate even when it came at 96. The last phone conversation we had as he waited to be seen at the emergency room was fraught with annoyed bewilderment at being held there against his will.It seems to be the primary topic of conversation that Rich and I are apt to discuss on any given day, and he has expressed frustration at my reticence to volunteer the dour details of my slide towards the inevitable, but really, why harp on it? Why dwell on the depressing aspects of life while you can still laugh ironically at those same concerns? Eat, drink, and be merry, I say. Of course, if you have to constantly watch your sodium and cholesterol while considering the lethal effects of the cocktail you're sipping, your options for fun will be limited. Anyway, back to PTSD… This week it's been front and center of my consciousness because I recently consumed two items of popular culture that feature it - one 60 years old, the other recently released - namely, Rod Serling's short lived 1965 television series, The Loner, starring Lloyd Bridges, and Christopher Nolan's freshly minted sword and sandal epic, The Odyssey. In both, the main character struggles with PTSD - Bridges' character in the aftermath of the Civil War, and Odysseus from his part in the atrocities recounted in the Iliad. Both men have experienced horrific and emotionally crippling events; they roam vistas rife with unremitting violence, and long to find home. Rod Serling transplanted his WW2 experiences to the Western genre, and audiences weren't ready for it's moral meditations, ill suited to an escapist medium. Regarding the Odyssey, Jon Stewart has reflected that it seems like a sequel to Oppenheimer, Nolan's rueful depiction of that protagonist's bequest of a doomsday weapon to arm mankind with the power to destroy itself. Echoes of PTSD resound everywhere - inside each of us, in the chaos all around, and throughout our popular culture. And, today I asked the oracle how to find peace with it. QUESTION: HOW CAN I OVERCOME RESENTMENT?The Oracle answered with Hexagrams 51 (Provoking), and 31 (Cutting)Let's examine those, along with a dream diary passage, and a song, “Cairns” composed during that time…Chemayne used to collect stones that appealed to her. She would then cover them in varnish to make them glisten. After she died there were tons of them, and I started giving them away as gifts. One friend was so taken with them that he took a bunch and built some amazing cairns, a term which I hadn't been familiar with, but which filled me with hope and pride for their future home. The following song “Cairns” evokes that appreciation. CAIRNS (Bill Mesnik)Stones banded by layers of timeStacking stone upon stone upon stoneCreates a monumentA tower sublimeMarking timeThese cairns of stoneChorus:Fly away through Arches in the desertTo a windswept morning beachWhere the sun glistens on the pebblesAs you soarSwiftlyOut of reach You left no lost communicationBefore your flight to the unknownJust some orphansWith no destinationLying lonely in our homeI'll stack stone upon stone upon stoneAnd mark the trail of timeFor some wanderer To wonder onWho left this cairn behind?

Dr. Bartov's early research concerned the Nazi indoctrination of the Wehrmacht and the crimes it committed in World War II, analyzed in his books, The Eastern Front, 1941-1945, and Hitler's Army. He then turned to the links between total war and genocide, discussed in his books Murder in Our Midst, Mirrors of Destruction, and Germany's War and the Holocaust. His latest book is Israel: What Went Wrong? In this episode, we focus on Israel: What Went Wrong? We talk about what Zionism was originally, how it became intertwined with the displacement of Palestinian people, and how it became a state ideology and a settler colonialist ideology. We discuss the “anti-Zionist” label. We talk about what it is like to grow up in Israel. We discuss whether Hamas and Hezbollah are resistance movements. We discuss what could be the aftermath of the genocide in Gaza, and why Israel is in a state of forever war with its neighbors. Ready for every boardroom.Mamdani sat down with Jon Stewart and made democratic socialism sound like libraries and fire departments. We break down why that framing collapses the second you look at what DSA policy actually says versus how it gets marketed. We get into the rent freeze experiment that already ran in New York, the difference between a social safety net and seizing the means of production, the perverse incentive problem, and why the people this movement celebrates should set off alarm bells. Plus the aggressive-agreement trap: where the left is right about helping workers, and where the branding hides something very different.Tom reacts to a viral Fox News interview with a national co-chair of the DSA—a clip so extreme he initially assumed it had to be a setup. Joining Tom is Drew as the two go point by point through the DSA platform laid out on air: abolishing the Senate, replacing the presidency and Supreme Court, abolishing ICE, opening borders with amnesty, defunding the Pentagon, abolishing prisons, and bringing most large corporations under government ownership. Tom argues this is communism unmasked, and explains why America's founders deliberately built a republic with checks and balances to protect citizens—even from a president they hate—drawing a stark contrast with what happens under unchecked power in places like China and Iran. The conversation then digs into the deeper engine Tom sees behind radical leftism: an ideology rooted in resentment and an "overproduction of elites"—young people loaded with debt and taught that virtue means finding how you're oppressed. Drew pushes the economic angle hard, arguing that a generation locked out of the capitalism ladder, priced out of housing, and drowning in household debt has little reason to defend a system that isn't working for them. Together they wrestle with inflation, minimum wage, NIMBYism, and whether you can defuse the ideological bomb without first fixing the economy. A candid, combative breakdown of one of the most consequential political fault lines in America. Tom takes on Mayor Mamdani's plan to launch five city-owned grocery stores in New York—a $70 million, taxpayer-funded endeavor promising a core basket of goods at 30% below retail. Joining Tom is Drew, who pushes back and presses on the specifics as the two work through why running a grocery store is one of the hardest businesses on earth, operating on razor-thin 1 to 3% margins. Tom walks through the economics step by step: even zeroing out rent, taxes, and profit, a 30% discount on core goods leaves an unavoidable gap—one the taxpayer has to close. He explains how artificially low prices distort the market, put upward pressure on surrounding stores, and threaten to drive local bodegas out of business (who are already suing). Drawing on his own experience selling into Walmart with Quest, Tom lays out the "kingmaker" dynamic and the Vlasic Pickle cautionary tale to show how a state-backed buyer would inevitably bully distributors and suppliers down the chain until someone—often the lowest-paid worker or farmer—absorbs the loss. He points to real-world failures in Baldwin, Florida; Erie, Kansas; and a questionable case in Atlanta, and connects it all to the DSA's July program calling for food, energy, medicine, and transportation to be run "not for profit." The core question Tom leaves you with: what are the odds a government bureaucrat runs a grocery store better than Walmart? His answer is blunt—zero.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

President Donald Trump is the greatest president of our lifetime. He may also be the funniest. While Trump landed banger after banger at the White House Correspondents' Dinner, "journalists" did their best to show that it was definitely not funny, guys, because they're "journalists" and they did a deep dive on what's not funny. Sometimes, a little fascism fixes a country right up. Let's take a look at these examples. Some mornings everything goes according to plan. This is absolutely not one of those mornings.King Scott kicks things off by earning the legendary Clock of Shame after an alarm clock betrayal (or operator error...depending on who you believe). From there, the chaos only escalates. The crew talks about the growing national blood shortage, why knowing your blood type actually matters, and how one simple donation can literally save lives before immediately steering the conversation straight into complete nonsense...because that's what a comedy podcast is supposed to do.Then comes the story nobody asked for but everyone will remember forever.A New Zealand metal concert turns into one of the most horrifying concert stories imaginable after a mosh pit gets interrupted by an unexpected biological disaster. The gang debates whether anyone could actually miss that smell, why everyone immediately started throwing up, and why this somehow isn't even the first time it's happened at a heavy music show.Yes...It's every bit as disgusting as it sounds.Meanwhile...The crew battles through Jeopardy music trivia, debates classic albums, laughs about DevilSkin vs. Devil's Kin, and somehow turns human biology into comedy. In Crap on Celebrities, there's plenty happening:• Carly Simon reveals her Parkinson's diagnosis.• Brett Michaels recovers from surgery while fans wonder about upcoming tour dates.• Larry the Cable Guy undergoes emergency surgery.• Christopher Nolan explains why he'll never direct a romantic comedy.• Kevin Smith announces a Jay & Silent Bob video game.• Rob Zombie's wife releases her debut single.• Tom Cruise family drama gets another chapter.• Jon Stewart and Pete Davidson reunite for a huge comedy benefit.• Plus celebrity birthdays, weird entertainment news, and all the sarcastic commentary you'd expect from The Rizzuto Show. It's another morning where serious conversations somehow collide with absolute nonsense—and somehow it all makes perfect sense. If you're looking for a comedy podcast packed with ridiculous stories, pop culture commentary, questionable life advice, St. Louis humor, and enough laughs to make your coworkers question what you're listening to, you've found today's episode.Because only The Rizzuto Show can go from saving lives with blood donations...to discussing poop in a mosh pit...without missing a beat.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Nothing says "good morning" quite like realizing one of your coworkers completely disappeared. This episode of The Rizzuto Show starts with full-on panic when King Scott doesn't show up for work. Is he okay? Did the baby arrive? Is there an emergency? Nope...he just slept through everything. Naturally, this earns him the legendary Clock of Shame and enough roasting to last until the baby's old enough to drive. From there, the chaos only gets better. The crew uncovers a little-known towing loophole that could save you hundreds of dollars if you ever catch your vehicle being hauled away. Is it legitimate? Is it shady? Is bribing a tow truck driver with a burrito technically negotiating? Important questions are asked. Then things get somehow even more ridiculous.A seasoned mountain climber accidentally impales himself with his own hiking pole...and calmly hikes TEN MILES back down the mountain with it still sticking through his body. Somehow that's still not the craziest survival story of the day.A solo sailor spends an entire month drifting across the Pacific after losing his mast, running out of water, and improvising his own survival system while waiting for someone—anyone—to notice him.Meanwhile, TikTok has apparently decided diarrhea is now a weight-loss strategy. Yes, really. The crew discusses the unbelievably stupid "Cyclospora Skinny" trend, contaminated lettuce, food recalls, and why intentionally giving yourself explosive diarrhea may not be the wellness breakthrough influencers think it is.If medical malpractice stories make you cringe...brace yourself. A woman goes in for a routine procedure and somehow wakes up missing the wrong organ entirely. The crew debates how much compensation is actually enough when a doctor's mistake permanently changes your life.Along the way there are conversations about:• hilarious late-to-work disasters• bizarre downtown vandalism• towing scams• rental car nightmares• hiking fails• ocean survival• bad diet trends• weird medical news• and the everyday nonsense that somehow turns into a three-hour comedy therapy session.King Scott kicks things off by earning the legendary Clock of Shame after an alarm clock betrayal (or operator error...depending on who you believe). From there, the chaos only escalates.A New Zealand metal concert turns into one of the most horrifying concert stories imaginable after a mosh pit gets interrupted by an unexpected biological disaster. The gang debates whether anyone could actually miss that smell, why everyone immediately started throwing up, and why this somehow isn't even the first time it's happened at a heavy music show. The crew battles through Jeopardy music trivia, debates classic albums, laughs about DevilSkin vs. The gang debates America's best fast food restaurants, questions why Del Taco somehow keeps winning national rankings, argues over Taco Bell's drive-thru speed, wonders why Chick-fil-A can be both the friendliest and the slowest, and absolutely unloads on some of the worst drive-thru experiences imaginable. There are passionate opinions about fries, chicken, Crunchwrap Supremes, Popeyes, Zaxby's, Raising Cane's, and just about every chain capable of serving questionable life decisions in under seven minutes. As if that wasn't enough chaos, the crew dives into a nostalgic rabbit hole of foods only your grandparents seem to enjoy. Liver and onions. Sardines. Bologna. Tapioca pudding. Fruitcake. Jell-O molds. Black licorice. Somehow everyone ends up questioning their own taste buds while Scott proudly brings in licorice like it's a treasured family heirloom. And then...Headline Hoosh arrives. This week's winner is a man who decided hopping onto a moving freight train wasn't exciting enough, so he climbed onto the locomotive completely naked and surfed it across Colorado before police finally stopped the train. His explanation? Vodka, cheap beer, and banjo playing. Honestly...we've heard worse resumes.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshowConnect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online →https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShowHear The Rizz Show daily on 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.Man put glue in electrical outlets downtown...Man impaled by own trekking pole then hiked more than 10 miles to safetySolo sail gone wrong: California man survives month at sea drifting to HawaiiRecord-breaking solo rower Kelsey Pfendler arrives in HawaiiWoman wins massive settlement after bladder mistakenly removed during surgery for benign cystMen Born at Same Hospital Allege They Were Switched at Birth and Raised by Each Other's Biological Parents"And then everyone else starts vomiting". Last week, the Mayor of New York City — a self-declared democratic socialist — sat down with Jon Stewart and delivered sixty minutes of the most carefully packaged pitch for socialist governance I have ever seen on mainstream American media. No shouting. No revolutionary slogans. Potholes. Childcare. Dignity. If you think this doesn't affect you because New York City is just New York City — understand this: what Mamdani is building is explicitly designed to be a national model. It is coming to your city next. So I'm going to break down his arguments and equip you with everything you need to not just defeat them, but to do so in such a way that robs him of the moral legitimacy that he is trying to steal.GET YOUR MERCH HERE: https://shop.nickjfreitas.com/BECOME A MEMBER OF THE IC: https://NickJFreitas.comInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/nickjfreitas/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/NickFreitasVATwitter: https://twitter.com/NickJFreitasYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@NickjfreitasTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@nickjfreitas3.000:00:00 – The three lies socialists always tell00:06:49 – Who really made NYC childcare unaffordable?00:12:35 – Fact-check: rent control and the true cost of "$60 million for tenants"00:17:22 – The non-answer: what democratic socialism actually is00:24:43 – Why the socialist utopia never arrives00:28:43 – How they really seize control: rent freezes and government grocery stores00:35:14 – The library lie: dressing up socialism as public goods00:40:51 – FDR, Mussolini, and socialist vs fascist economics00:43:07 – The dependency trap and Hayek's road to serfdom00:46:24 – The real definition, suspended elections, and Venezuela's collapse00:50:08 – No solutions, only tradeoffs: who hollowed out New York00:55:37 – The three lies, recapped
It's a very casual Friday today on The Majority Report On today's program: Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she is not worried about this supposed "slippery slope" from socialism to communism, citing how we can't even get Congress to raise the minimum wage. Laura Ingraham lusts for AOC on Fox News, describing her as a "an attractive millennial with...raven hair and red lipstick". Mediaite posts a New York Post article from 1999 reporting a tongue-in-cheek story on Lindsey Graham and Laura Ingraham allegedly dating. Krystal Ball, co-host of Breaking Points and Krystal, Kyle and Friends, joins the program to recap the week's news. In the Fun Half: Elon Musk is interviewed by the Economist, and he folds like a cheap suit. Musk, the trillionaire, accuses the interviewer of living in a cloistered existence. Dave Rubin has a manic meltdown over Jon Stewart's interview with Zohran Mamdani in a rant that devolves into Rubin hurling antisemitic slurs at Stewart. Ben Shapiro begs for Trump to commit war crimes in Iran. all that and more. Associate Professor of African American Studies at Wayne State University & author of Black Scare Red Scare: Theorizing Capitalist Racism in the United States, Charisse Burden-Stelly, returns to Bad Faith to discuss the new 100 page State Department report accusing American leftist groups of being part of a "sustained campaign of subversion" against the United States. This new Red-Scare blacklist names Code Pink, the DSA, Hasan Piker, Ben Cohen, Zohran Mamdani, and even Maxine Waters. What does this mean for left movements, & does the liberal response to these accusations, which is largely to distance "Communism" from Scandinavian-style social democracy, help or hurt the cause of the socialist left? We examine a series of Red-Scare articles, including a viral Atlantic Piece titled "The DSA Is a Parasite," along with clips from Jon Stewart, Abdul El-Sayed, & more.
