Her focus and mission today due to rising toxicity levels in our environment, along with the associated rise in cancer rates and communicable disease, is on helping people and families optimize their health by strengthening their immune system through healthier lifestyle choices, minimizing toxicity in the home and designing a life stance that guides their way to health and wholeness through their own intuitive wisdom.

In this episode of Next Level Human Podcast, Dr. Jade welcomes Dr. Mike T. Nelson to discuss all the details of human performance and how metabolism works during weight loss. Dr. Mike is a Human Performance Specialist and Fitness and Nutrition Educator, and understanding these nuances has been one of his projects throughout his 18-year career. In order to look better and perform better, it's crucial to understand the role that calories and macronutrients (protein, carbohydrate, and fats) play in our bodies. Balancing the three is the key to achieving a weight loss goal. Although the equation “calories in vs. calories out” is the foundation for changing body composition, there is more to it. A fast metabolism is ideal for someone looking to lose weight, while a slow metabolism helps with muscle gain and strength. A flexible metabolism, however, is a proven way to master body composition. Dr. Jade and Dr. Mike also discuss training, different diets, and the most recent research on this topic. Check out the Next Level Human sponsors! Today's episode of the Period Chats podcast is all about matching your pleasure with your menstrual cycle. We're chatting with Blaire Horton from Holistic Rendezvous, who is a certified Nutrition Educator, certified Natural Chef, and a Holistic Nutrition Consultant. Blaire shares insights on the effects of hormone level changes on our libido and pleasure. Many people struggle with the topic of pleasure in general, and it may be the case that we don't take the time to explore the interplay between our moods, interest in sex, and needs in general with our menstrual cycles. This episode will give you tips on a myriad of ways you can find pleasure in each phase of your cycle, so you can work with your natural rhythms instead of being eluded or even frustrated by them. And, it will help shatter whatever taboos may be present for you around the topics of libido, the menstrual cycle, pleasure, and sex. Blaire explains that the follicular phase is like spring and tends to make us more adventurous. Ovulation usually increases sex drive as well as self esteem in general, so we brainstorm how to channel that to our advantage. The early luteal phase is sometimes known as the “romantic” phase, so we talk about what interpersonal interactions look like during that week. Then in the later luteal phase many of us transition into nesting and organizing. Many people get more introverted, and some of us have more negative self-talk compared to other phases, so we share tips for how to get rest and good nutrition during that part of the cycle. We also talk a lot about what self-care looks like, and how it may change throughout the menstrual cycle as well. The main point is that pleasure is personal. It doesn't necessarily mean sex with a partner, or anything sexual at all. It's what feels good to you. We hope everyone can have a pleasure routine because it's an important part of empowerment in our lives. Connect with Blaire: www.holisticrendezvous.com

Throwing a vegan dinner party can be challenging and stressful. Listen in as our guest expert gives the tips and tricks for party success! Everybody loves a good dinner party, but how do you make it work so you are not drained, stressed and ready to fall apart by the end of the night? We got your back with all you need to know! Diana Goldman is a Vegan Caterer, Sierra Club Cooking Show Host and Plant-based Nutrition Educator based in Boston. She received a B.S. from Cornell University in Nutrition Science and an Ed.M. from Harvard University. Her blog Beantown Kitchen was awarded one of the top 100 plant-based blogs by Feedspot. She loves sharing recipes on her YouTube Channel and Instagram. Sign up to receive a free Healthy Vegan Made Easy ebook on her website Beantown Kitchen. How to Get Started Sometimes the hardest part of taking something on is getting started. When it comes to having a dinner party, knowing all that you need to do in an easy step by step format can really help reduce the overwhelm. Here are the basics to get you going: Find a date.Decide who your guests will be, make sure to take note of kids versus adults.Find out if there are any allergies, dislikes etc with your guests.Decide location, where and also if you will be inside or outside.Plan a theme and menu. Accommodating All Dietary Needs There are so many recipes available for us to use for free, so we shouldn't be stopped when we need to accommodate allergies or other foods our guests need or prefer to avoid. All you need to do is search online and look in cookbooks you have. Google, Pinterest, Instagram and Facebook are all great for finding recipes for every diet. Sometimes the cuisine can guide us too. For example Indian and Thai cuisine use coconut for creaminess so can help if you have a guest that is nut free but can have coconut. While Italian cuisine tends to have a lot of cheese and vegan cheeses are often made from nuts, so it may not be best with nut allergies. Overall when you are used to making plant-based recipes, accommodating needs and preferences is second nature. What to Serve There are many avenues you can take that will help guide you when it comes to narrowing down what to make for your dinner party. Here are a few ideas: Start with a familiar main meal first and then pick sides that stem off of that main meal. Like if you do burgers, you can do fries, salad, potato salad, macaroni salad, coleslaw, etc.Pick a cuisine and focus your menu around that theme. If you do Italian, you can do lasagna, salad, risotto and tiramisu.Serve food buffet style so you can make a variety of things for people to serve themselves. Salads, and sides do great to get in variety with buffets.Have a build your own theme and allow people to make their own tacos, pizzas, bowls, etc. This is great when feeding people that have a lot of dietary differences so they can pick and choose what to have. The people coming to your dinner party, where you will eat and your dietary needs can all help guide which direction is best to take. How to Prep Prepping ahead can help keep the stress at a minimum. Once you have nailed down your menu, you should use that to find what ingredients you need. Then, check to see what you have at home and what you need to buy, and make a list for the grocery store. Figure out what you can make ahead. This is what you can do ahead of time: SaucesDessertsCasserolesDressing for a salad so it's done.Chop and prep the things you can't make ahead so they are ready day of.Cook things like grains, etc so they are ready to use. You can also set the table ahead of time to have it ready to go. This way the day of you can focus on organizing your space, cleaning, setting up the space more, etc. Also, if you get things prepared with time left before your guests arrive, you can relax a little so you are rested when the party starts.

My guest this time is Rachael Jumonville. Listen now and see what it's like to be a nutrition educator !
Amber Marie has been working as a private chef and nutrition educator for about a decade in both South Florida and the Savannah/Hilton Head area where she currently resides. She holds a culinary degree from Johnson & Wales University, an education degree from New York University, and a law degree from CUNY School of Law. Prior to entering the culinary field, she was an attorney for the government in New York City - but her lifelong passion for cooking and a series of health challenges led her to reconsider her priorities. She has studied nutrition extensively to not only regain her own health but to better support her clients, and she seeks to inspire others with her shift from the "employee" mindset to the more creative lifestyle of the entrepreneur - which required her to face her lifelong struggles around vagueness with time and money as well as compulsive busyness. In her free time, she enjoys writing poetry, yoga, nature photography, music, sailing, travel, pondering the spiritual dimensions of existence...and cats. --- Being an attorney is often thought of as prestigious work, but as Amber Marie explains, the pressure and stress of the role led her to reconsider. Facing personal health challenges, and seeing how her health improved as she changed her diet, Amber realized that perhaps her true calling was to pursue a culinary and nutrition-focused career. Of course, the change would also contradict her mentality to help people and make a difference in the world - or so, she initially thought. As Amber explains, given time to reflect upon her career options, she recognized that our days are made of the seemingly ‘little things’ - like catching a beautiful sunrise, or enjoying a delicious meal - and her goal became clear. She’d focus her energy on making meals that would be a highlight in the day of her clients, while also being nutritious. Joining us to share her story, Amber opens up about the role her spirituality played during her career transition; the importance of keeping your eyes on your own paper; speaking up about your needs at work; and trying new things instead of later regretting the choice to not try at all.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR Jan M. Martin gained notoriety when she was featured on the front page of the NOGALES INTERNATIONAL newspaper for winning a national contest {and $1600.00} with her comedic poem about her messy kitchen. She still is fond of writing slapstick poetry on diverse topics such as Black Friday, Mother's Day, and her kitchen timer, some of which can be seen by clicking on "Writings" in the menu above. She was employed at Mariposa Community Health Center as a Nutrition Educator and Tobacco Prevention Coordinator until her retirement. She also has been teaching religious education to high school students for the past 30 years. Her extensive nutrition research led to her devising a . . . um . . . highly unusual murder weapon for HEIR OF DECEIT. Jan and her husband researched in North Carolina for HEIR OF DECEIT, where they met with local people, including famous moonshiner, the late Popcorn Sutton, whom she features briefly in her book. They visited the ancient Cherokee homeland, where they learned of the Cherokee culture, and a wealth of local traditions, folklore and ghost stories. Each place and tradition—even the ghosts--used in HEIR OF DECEIT are as genuine as she could craft them. Every experience in North Carolina enriched HEIR OF DECEIT, and especially affected a major character, Tsali, the Cherokee firefighter, and his legendary ancestor by the same name. Jan M. Martin has been writing since age 11 when she wrote 4-H reports for her local newspaper. She has won several national contests with her comedic poems about Eskimo Pies, fishing, weight loss, and other comedy. Some of these now appear in her short, 100-page humor book, MY WORD, THAT'S ABSURD.

Kelly Bristow is a Registered Dietitian who connects food and nutrition professionals with agriculturalists to create advocates and defenders of modern agriculture. She manages Bayer’s L.E.A.D. Network of dietitians promoting the science behind tools like pesticides and gene editing in today’s food supply. Kelly’s background includes one-on-one counseling in an out-patient setting, nutrition education, and school food service. Her enthusiasm for agriculture grew while working as Nutrition Educator with St. Louis District Dairy Council where she worked alongside dairy farmers supporting teaching consumers about the benefits of dairy. Kelly’s passion continued to grow while working with a local school district supporting child nutrition through school meals. Kelly directed the school district’s farm-to-school program where she educated students and members of the community about where food comes from, how food is grown, and the importance of eating more fruit and vegetables. Kelly and her husband live in the city with their three year-old son, Ben. She enjoys cooking, spending time outside, or taking advantage of all the great things the city has to offer! During this conversation, I spoke with Kelly about how a supportive team at home and work help her stay under pressure as a busy young professional and mother. This podcast series is devoted to sharing good teaching practice at Gardens Elementary School which is located on the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology campus in Saudi Arabia. At GES, our student population is multi-cultural, diverse, enthusiastic, engaging and confident. They are also fun loving and happy. Through the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) we provide opportunities for students to develop an understanding of essential concepts, skills, knowledge, and attitudes that will enable them to be lifelong learners. Our students are actively involved in authentic inquiry-based learning across all the curriculum areas. They develop confidence in their abilities, think for themselves, question, express their opinions and respect the opinions of others. As students learn to reflect on their learning, they become critical thinkers. We encourage students to voice their ideas and to take action to improve the school and the community. Student achievement and progress is shared through regular assemblies, parent conferences, open houses and activities aimed at making the school a stimulating center for the community. Deanna’s Bio Deanna has been in the field of education in varying capacities for 25 years. Starting out as a Nutrition Educator for a program that supports families with limited income & food stamp recipients. She was involved in home visits, working closely with various social service related programs. Deanna started college while she was working with this program, and also working at a day care/learning center part time. She became a peer tutor in earth science classes & a note taker for students with disabilities at my university. Deanna learned so much from each of those experiences. She was a teacher in Billings, Montana for a very long time and had the honor of teaching young people who have grown into well-rounded citizens of the world. Timing is really everything, and she had a deep burning in her heart that could not be squelched- she wanted to be a part of the bigger world, cultures, geography, and experiences. She has been an international teacher for the past five years in Saudi Arabia. The students all over the world and over all of these years have given her the most valuable education, in the way they wonder, see the world, humanity, and living in the moment. Deanna is the mother of two outstanding young men who are her life’s compass points for compassion and living life to its fullest. Utilizing Learner Voice For Professional Growth In this episode, Deanna Mydland speaks about her own professional growth journey and how she has leveraged student voice as a tool to learn more about how she can better structure learning in her class that honors each of her students. Deanna takes us through the specifics related to what student's voice taught and how she created her professional inquiry to reflect this learning. As a 25-year veteran of education, Deanna brings a wealth of knowledge to the work she does and her ability to critically reflect on her own practice is what our professional inquiry journeys are all about at Gardens Elementary School.
