6 giugno 1985. Though different parts of the wine world (geographically) present their own headwinds, many of the difficulties in the wine trade are universal.  And sometimes the solution is at hand, but just not realized or acted upon. Moahe Weizman saw the issue, brainstormed a solution and has now launched his idea. And it is working. Welcome to Wine Talks with Paul K. In today's episode, I dive into the innovative world of collaborative wine selling with Moshe Weizman from Whining. Imagine transforming the way we buy wine—shifting from solo purchases to a community-driven experience. Moshe's platform connects wine buyers, turning individual bottle desires into shared case purchases, maximizing value for both consumers and wineries. While challenges like fulfillment in the U.S. remain, the potential to revolutionize the winery club model and bring people together over a bottle—or a few—is undeniable. Stay curious, and let's raise a glass to new wine experiences!   Moshe Weizman, much like his biblical counterpart, ventures into a land of untapped promise—digital wine commerce. In an episode that teases apart the layers of collaborative selling, listeners will uncover how Moshe has reimagined the wine-buying experience with a blend of tradition and modern technology. Picture this: instead of standing alone amidst a sea of virtual bottles, you find yourself part of a connected network of fellow enthusiasts, each sharing in the discovery and delight of a wine that tickles your curiosity. Paul Kalemkiarian uncorks this conversation, highlighting how the digital shift in wine sales is not merely about technology, but about crafting a new kind of storytelling through wine. Here, Moshe explains how his platform, ‘Whining,' redefines e-commerce by integrating social elements to enhance personal buying experiences—a solution that addresses the waning wine club memberships and reaches out to more elusive Gen Z consumers. From insights on different global markets to anecdotes about Israel's rapid digital adoption, you'll hear firsthand how Moshe navigates the complex web of international regulations, all while fostering a sense of community and shared passion for wine. This episode promises to color in the digital landscapes where wine becomes more than a transaction—it becomes a shared journey, linking the desires of sellers and buyers in unexpected, rewarding ways. Grab your favorite vintage and tune in to discover how ‘Whining' could well be the future of wine commerce.

Artists Remake the World puts forward an account of contemporary art's political ambitions and potential. Surveying such innovations as evidence-driven art, socially engaged art, and ecological art, the book explores how artists have attempted to offer bold solutions to the world's problems. Simoniti systematises the perspectives of contemporary art as a force for political and social change. At its best, he argues, contemporary art allows us to imagine utopias and presents us with hard truths, which mainstream political discourse cannot yet articulate. Covering subjects such as climate change, social justice, and global inequality, Artists Remake the World offers a philosophy of contemporary art as an experimental branch of politics. Vid Simoniti is a Lecturer in Philosophy of Art at the University of Liverpool. He is the co-editor, with James Fox, of Art and knowledge after 1900. Action and information sharing are keys for fighting climate anxiety, said Itamar Weizman, the head of climate investments at Israeli investment firm Firstime who suffers from self-diagnosed climate anxiety. He said the five stages of climate anxiety are similar to the five stages of grief."A lot of people are stuck in denial, especially in America, right? People are just: I don't want to hear about it. There is nothing going on. I can continue business as usual. Everything is fine. The world isn't burning, the world isn't dying, and the world isn't crashing,” he said.“My goal is to bring as many people as I can through these stages to acceptance, so they can restart with action. If we don't go through all of these stages, from denial to anger to bargaining, depression, and acceptance, we don't go into action,” Weizman said.Learn more about:How to travel to COP27, and what to expectLanguage requirements for Firstime investmentsBeehero's unique insight into hivesHow First Airborne drones inspect wind farms autonomouslyRecommended documentaries: David Attenborough: A Life on Our PlanetJohn Chester: The Biggest Little FarmIn the NatureBacked podcast of Single.Earth, we talk with investors and entrepreneurs about their vision of the new green economy.Advertisers in this episode:Follow NatureBacked across platforms:Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Google PodcastsTwitter | Instagram

From politics to publishing, and now venture capital, Itamar Weizman provides a fascinating look at the climate tech landscape in Israel and beyond. Ep.#51 Itamar Weizman @ Firstime VC - Tech4Climate Podcast by Startup basecamp PART 1: Meet the investor In today's episode, we are speaking with Itamar Weizman, Partner and Head of Climate Investments @ Firstime VC, one of the key players of the climate tech landscape in Israel. Itamar's career began in non-profit activism with Greenpeace and political campaigning, but a few years ago, he made the shift toward climate and came in to lead climate tech at Firstime VC. He now also runs a non-profit publishing company to promote sustainable thinking in Hebrew. I was excited to have Itamar on the show and to learn from his extensive knowledge of the climate tech ecosystem in Israel. It was particularly interesting to learn what advantages he thinks Israel brings to the table in terms of the global ecosystem, and why Israel is such a leader in foodtech, transportation, and mobility. Above all, Itamar provided an interesting glimpse of how he arrived at leading climate tech at Firstime VC, and what his journey looked like along the way, peppered with book recommendations and the seminal studies he learned from that informed his thinking. In this episode, Itamar explains his drive to protect humanity from itself. In doing so, he explains how he joined Firstime VC, how he partners with founders, and how he measures impact versus greenwashing, to ensure that his fund truly contributes to climate efforts. Most importantly, he explains how he maintains his optimism on how we can solve climate change, despite the challenges, and how he avoids feeling demoralized about the challenging times ahead.. Part 2: My secret sauce: In the second part of the show, Itamar gives a run-through of what he looks for in the companies he invests in. Itamar is a self-professed podcast and book enthusiast, so he also gives an extensive list of the podcasts and books that have been useful to him in understanding the climate tech space.

In Unsettled Heritage: Living Next to Poland's Material Jewish Traces After the Holocaust (Cornell UP, 2022), Yechiel Weizman explores what happened to the thousands of abandoned Jewish cemeteries and places of worship that remained in Poland after the Holocaust, asking how postwar society in small, provincial towns perceived, experienced, and interacted with the physical traces of former Jewish neighbors. After the war, with few if any Jews remaining, numerous deserted graveyards and dilapidated synagogues became mute witnesses to the Jewish tragedy, leaving Poles with the complicated task of contending with these ruins and deciding on their future upkeep. Combining archival research into hitherto unexamined sources, anthropological field work, and cultural and linguistic analysis, Weizman uncovers the concrete and symbolic fate of sacral Jewish sites in Poland's provincial towns, from the end of the Second World War until the fall of the communist regime. His book weaves a complex tale whose main protagonists are the municipal officials, local activists, and ordinary Polish citizens who lived alongside the material reminders of their murdered fellow nationals. Unsettled Heritage shows the extent to which debating the status and future of the material Jewish remains was never a neutral undertaking for Poles—nor was interacting with their disturbing and haunting presence. Indeed, it became one of the most urgent municipal concerns of the communist era, and the main vehicle through which Polish society was confronted with the memory of the Jews and their annihilation.

Today, journalists, legal professionals, activists, and artists challenge the state's monopoly on investigation and the production of narratives of truth. They probe corruption, human rights violations, environmental crimes, and technological domination. Organisations such as WikiLeaks, Bellingcat, or Forensic Architecture pore over open-source videos and satellite imagery to undertake visual investigations. This combination of diverse fields is what Fuller and Weizman call 'investigative aesthetics': the mobilisation of sensibilities associated with art, architecture, and other such practices in order to challenge power. Investigative Aesthetics draws on theories of knowledge, ecology and technology; evaluates the methods of citizen counter-forensics, micro-history and art. These new practices take place in the studio and the laboratory, the courtroom and the gallery, online and in the streets, as they strive towards the construction of a new common sense. Matthew Fuller and Eyal Weizman speak to Pierre d'Alancaisez about the logics behind Forensic Architecture and the evidentiary turn: the aesthetics of distributed sensing, the investigative commons, and the condition of hyperaesthesia.
