Professional Christian Carey Robinson of @TheMovementOC church returns to the show to talk about the complexities of leadership, how he stays accountable in his leadership position as a pastor, and why he calls himself a Christian nationalist. His definition of CN may not be what you think. Which is why Zack argues he should drop the label. It's a zesty conversation with some healthy argumentation all around. Also, why are we, of the royal variety, rewarding people for using racial slurs on kids? It's a wild time to be alive, and we're here to talk about it. The right-wing ideologies we see most active in the world right now aren't intellectual by any stretch of the imagination. But there is a rich tradition of conservative political and social philosophy and, as liberals, it's important to understand what its objections to liberalism look like.ReImagining Liberty stalwart Matthew McManus, a lecturer in political science at the University of Michigan, wrote an article for Liberal Currents not too long ago about the philosopher Roger Scruton's criticism of liberalism from a conservative perspective. Scruton's work is perfect—because of its erudition, accessibility, and exemplariness—for understanding the philosophical conservative perspective.Today Matt and I use Scruton's ideas as a way to interrogate the conservative intellectual tradition and to argue that conservative philosophy aims less at a society organized around truth than it does a society where certainty rarely faces challenge.Discuss this episode with the host and your fellow listeners in the ReImagining Liberty Reddit community: https://www.reddit.com/r/ReImaginingLiberty/ If you enjoy ReImagining Liberty and want to listen to episodes free of ads and sponsorships, become a supporter. So Much More: Creating Space for God (Lectio Divina and Scripture Meditation)
In this Lent Scripture meditation, we’ll engage in Lectio Divina, a slow, reflective way of reading Scripture, to experience a moment when Jesus challenges our assumptions about power and greatness. NOTE: I’ve created a free Lent Journal to help you reflect and pray through each meditation. It includes the Scripture passages, reflection prompts, and space to process your time with the Lord. You can download it here. At this point in Jesus’s ministry, the disciples have seen His miracles, heard His teachings, and are beginning to understand that He is the Messiah. But as we see in Matthew 18:1-5, they still assume He’s bringing an earthly kingdom—and they’re eager to know what positions of power they’ll hold. Instead of rebuking them, Jesus responds with a living illustration. He calls a child to stand among them and teaches that true greatness isn’t about status or control—it’s about humility, dependence, and trust. Through this guided Scripture meditation, you’ll have space to: Identify where you’re tempted to seek status, control, or recognition. Notice what God is highlighting in this passage for you today. Consider what’s holding you back from trusting Him fully. Rest in the truth that God’s way—even when it feels upside down—is always best. Take a moment to pause, reflect, and open your heart to Jesus’s invitation to live with childlike faith. Here are some additional helpful links: Download your free LENT guide here. We've been thinking a lot about culture recently, and reflecting on how–whether or not we're aware of it–culture is a force that's always exerting influence on us. It's typically only when we get outside of our daily routine, our city or even our country, and are confronted with new ways of doing things that we can clearly see the values, norms, and practices that make up the culture we live in. Today, we're re-running a thought-provoking conversation we had with Michele Gelfand about notions of what she calls “tight” and “loose” cultures. It's a conversation that helps illuminate some of the invisible forces of culture, and also sheds light on how understanding these forces helps us better navigate the world. We hope you'll take another listen and enjoy. Have a question for Russ? Send it our way in writing or via voice memo, and it might be featured on an upcoming episode. Episode 146 In this episode, I delve into the challenging and often misunderstood topic of deconstruction, especially for those of us healing from complex trauma as persons of faith. I share my own journey and how deconstruction has been an essential part of my healing process. We'll define what deconstruction means in this context and explore the three zones where I experienced it: Self-Identity, Family and Cultural Values, and Faith. Despite its inherent risk, deconstruction is a necessary and important part of the journey towards wholeness and a more secure faith in God. I hope my sharing reassures those of you on the healing journey that your experience of deconstruction or “undoing” is an integral and hopeful part of the healing process even if very few people in your life can understand you.Watch this recording on YouTube.Follow me on my Instagram account @animann for more material on the integration journey and subscribe to my monthly reflections on Begin Again.CHAPTER MARKERS[00:00] Introduction[01:44] Defining Deconstruction[06:03] 3 Zones of Deconstruction[07:59] 1. Genesis 34: An Overview and Reflection Genesis 34 tells the story of Dinah, the daughter of Jacob and Leah, and a series of events that unfold after she visits the women of the land. This chapter is a dramatic and tragic narrative involving issues of honor, justice, and revenge. The Story Dinah is seen by Shechem, the son of Hamor the Hivite, who is the prince of the land. Shechem takes Dinah and violates her, but afterward, he expresses love for her and desires to marry her. He asks his father, Hamor, to arrange the marriage with Dinah's family. When Jacob hears about what happened to Dinah, he is distressed, but he waits for his sons to return from the fields before responding. Dinah's brothers are furious when they learn of the assault. Hamor visits Jacob to negotiate a marriage, offering peace and intermarriage between their peoples, as well as trade and shared land. Shechem himself also pleads with Jacob and his sons, offering to pay any bride price they demand. The sons of Jacob deceitfully agree to the marriage on the condition that all the males in Shechem's city be circumcised, making it seem like this is a step toward unity. Hamor and Shechem persuade the men of their city to agree, emphasizing the mutual benefits of intermarriage and shared resources. On the third day, while the men of the city are still in pain from the circumcision, Simeon and Levi, two of Dinah's brothers, attack the city. They kill all the males, including Hamor and Shechem, rescue Dinah, and loot the city, taking women, children, livestock, and wealth. Jacob condemns their actions, fearing retaliation from the surrounding Canaanite and Perizzite tribes, which could jeopardize his family's safety. However, Simeon and Levi justify their actions by asking, “Should he have treated our sister like a prostitute?” Key Themes and Lessons 1.The Value of Justice and the Danger of Revenge: Simeon and Levi's reaction illustrates the fine line between seeking justice and exacting disproportionate revenge. While their anger at the violation of their sister is justified, their deceit and violence escalate the situation. This invites reflection on how anger can cloud judgment and lead to actions that have far-reaching consequences. 2.Cultural Values and Honor: The story highlights the cultural importance of honor and family in the ancient world. Dinah's violation is not just a personal tragedy but a stain on the family's reputation. The narrative shows how this cultural emphasis on honor can lead to extreme responses. 3.The Danger of Deception: Jacob's sons deceive Hamor and Shechem under the guise of a covenant. Their deceitful actions contrast sharply with the covenant-making character of God, who values truth and faithfulness. This reminds readers of the consequences of using dishonesty to achieve personal goals. 4.God's Protection Despite Human Failure: Although the chapter does not explicitly mention God's intervention, the broader narrative of Genesis shows how God continues to protect and fulfill His covenant with Jacob's family despite their flaws and mistakes. Reflection Genesis 34 is a difficult chapter because it does not offer easy resolutions or explicit moral lessons. Instead, it presents a complex situation involving sin, human emotions, and flawed responses. It encourages readers to reflect on the consequences of unchecked anger, the need for justice tempered by wisdom, and the importance of aligning actions with God's principles. This passage also invites us to think about how we handle situations of wrongdoing and the ways we seek to address injustice in our lives and communities. It reminds us that while standing up for what is right is important, the methods we choose to pursue justice matter just as much.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sendme-radio--732966/support.

One of the things that young people have been told is that all cultures are equally valuable. This is not true. We start at the micro-culture, the most important culture: family. Not all family cultures are equally valuable. Right now, what is happening in India is a sign of a failing culture, as the country's rape crisis continues and the number of victims soar. We are importing people into our country who come from cultures with values that are less valuable than our own. The people aren't bad, but their cultures are less valuable. We also talk about the culture of envy and victimhood and a city employee who says it terrifies her to death when white children stare at her. What Does God's Word say?Deuteronomy 6:7Impress them on your children. We discussed the importance of adopting a systemic approach to climate action, emphasising the need for cross-departmental cooperation and a holistic view that integrates urban planning, public health, and social equity. We also explored how governments can leverage procurement as a powerful tool to advance climate goals, utilising their buying power to influence market practices and support sustainable solutions. Carina shared insights on the role of technology and AI in aiding decision-makers, especially in processing vast amounts of data to inform policy and action. Moreover, we touched on the critical role of community engagement and the necessity of reimagining cultural values to effectively address climate change. Carina emphasised that while technology and policy are vital, it's ultimately the people and communities that drive meaningful change. This conversation offers valuable insights into the intricacies of government operations and the pathways to more effective climate action at the local level. I hope you find it as enlightening as I did.Support the showPodcast supportersI'd like to sincerely thank this podcast's amazing supporters: Lorcan Sheehan Jerry Sweeney Andreas Werner Devaang Bhatt Stephen Carroll Roger Arnold And remember you too can Support the Podcast - it is really easy and hugely important as it will enable me to continue to create more excellent Climate Confident episodes like this one.ContactIf you have any comments/suggestions or questions for the podcast - get in touch via direct message on Twitter/LinkedIn. Ethics of Monotheism vs. Paganism: The discussion examines the ethical implications of monotheism compared to paganism. The number of unmarried individuals is rising globally, and people are choosing to stay single for various reasons, including career goals and economic factors. Singles tend to have different personality traits, such as introversion, lower conscientiousness, and higher neuroticism, but this does not mean their lives are less meaningful. Happiness should not be the sole measure of a meaningful life, and singles can navigate their singleness by understanding their personality traits and focusing on what brings them fulfillment. Extroverted people tend to be happier in various cultures, and there is a cultural value placed on extroversion. Interpreting low energy responses from others can be challenging, but it's important not to take it personally and consider other factors. Being single does not mean there is something wrong with you, and it's important to focus on personal well-being! For introverted singles, getting involved in hobbies and interests can be a great way to meet potential partners. Technology and online communities can facilitate connections and relationships, but it's important to be cautious and maintain in-person interactions. Gender differences exist in happiness, with women generally reporting higher levels of happiness when single. Men face challenges in developing emotional intelligence and social skills, which can impact their relationships. The impact of technology on singleness is complex, with potential benefits and risks. Personal experiences of meeting partners through technology can vary, and trust and communication are crucial in online relationships. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/couply/message

Professional boxing poses risks of concussion-related brain trauma. Yet from “Rocky” to “Creed,” we see boxing persist as a cultural icon. Does boxing's value as a sport and the lifeline it can offer young people justify its dangers? On Vital Signs with Brendon Fallon, U.S.A. Boxing team physician Dr. Barry Jordan highlights the brain-trauma dangers that he's encountered in the sport. Dr. Jordan has 40 years experience in sports neurology. “In boxing, they say it's the punch you don't see. [For] soccer, it's the ball you don't see. If you don't see the ball coming, it may catch you off guard and it causes your head to move and that could cause a problem.” Antonio Graceffo, former professional boxer in Asia, now China economist, gives his first-hand accounts of boxing injury. “You'd see the punch coming. And you're so tired that you debate, ‘Would I rather let that punch hit me? Or would I rather move out of the way?'” Despite its brain health dangers, both experts have chosen to support boxing in their own capacities. What deeper value do they see in the sport, particularly for youth? How does the “rise from the ghetto” theme in movies like “Rocky” and “Creed” stand up to the reality for pro-boxer hopefuls? ⭕️ Watch in-depth videos based on Truth & Tradition at Epoch TV
