From hip-hop moguls and political candidates to talk radio and critically acclaimed films, society communicates that Black girls don't matter and their girlhood is not safe. Alarming statistics on physical and sexual abuse, for instance, reveal the harm Black girls face, yet Black girls' representation in media still heavily relies on our seeing their abuse as an important factor in others' development. In this provocative new book, Aria S. Halliday asserts that the growth of diverse representation in media since 2008 has coincided with an increase in the hatred of Black girls.Dr. Halliday uses her astute expertise as a scholar of popular culture, feminist theory, and Black girlhood to expose how we have been complicit in the depiction of Black girls as unwanted and disposable while letting Black girls fend for themselves. She indicts the way media mistreats celebrity Black girls like Malia and Sasha Obama as well as fictional Black girls in popular shows and films like A Wrinkle in Time. Our society's inability to see or understand Black girls as girls makes us culpable in their abuse. In Black Girls and How We Fail Them (UNC Press, 2025), a revelatory book for political analysts, hip-hop lovers, pop culture junkies, and parents, Dr. Halliday provides the critical perspective we need to create a world that supports, affirms, and loves Black girls. Salvatore (Sam) and Noelle Borgia were married in 2015 and live in Washington, Michigan, with their two daughters, Valentina and Liliana. They are a Christian family and strive to always put God first at the center of their lives. With a full year behind us since our last release on Delayed's own Never Late, we're proud to welcome French artist Gëinst to the platform with his ‘Hiber Trace' EP. We first discovered the music of Gëinst through mutual friends & upon that initial discovery, were immediately intrigued by his musical ecosystem. A prolific yet incredibly humble artist, he has had releases on labels such as Lowless with a superb split EP earlier this year with Simone Bauer, his Into The Valley EP on Souleiman & Foreign Material's label Norite, a string of releases with Sub Accent's label Accents, appearances on Emmanuel's ARTS & a few recent compilation inclusions on Lithuanian platform Area 127 & Ina Kacz's Aneelhi Rec. His sound has grown & evolved significantly over the years, as he remains in constant motion, continuously refining his process in the studio. We were lucky enough to meet Gëinst in person for the first time earlier this year, at our favorite Mostra Festival back in April. We shared some special times together in the cavernous Vall d'Hebron Olympic Pavilion, a place we're so eager to return to again next year, in only a few months. It's a pleasure to welcome Gëinst into our growing family, a fairly new but already dear friend of ours because of those powerful dancefloor experiences. And now, four more schools have joined the ranks of those earning certifications in these fields. South Cobb Early Learning Center and Ford Elementary snagged STEAM certifications, while Betty Gray Middle and Walton High earned STEM honors. “It’s been a joyful, messy journey,” said Marilyn Thomas, director of South Cobb Early Learning Center. “Our kids, teachers, and families all came together—building, experimenting, creating art. It’s hands-on learning at its best.” With over 50 certified schools, Cobb’s commitment to innovation is clear. Just ask the students at Tritt Elementary, who recently celebrated Girl-Powered Robotics Day. STORY 2: Meet Michael McNeely, Mableton’s newest councilman Michael McNeely, newly elected to Mableton’s City Council, is all about service—clear, honest, and hands-on. “I’d rather over-communicate than leave people guessing,” he says. McNeely, who moved to Mableton in 2019, has a long history of giving back. From his days as an Eagle Scout to serving in the Army National Guard and working in public safety for over two decades, he’s built a life around helping others. “It’s in my blood,” he says. Now, as District 2’s councilman, he’s focused on smart redevelopment, public safety, and creating spaces that bring the community together. Think parks, sidewalks, and maybe even a new community center. “We’ve got work to do,” McNeely says, “but Mableton’s got the people and the heart to make it happen.” STORY 3: Gas prices dip following Thanksgiving, predicted to stay down through holidays  Georgia drivers are catching a break at the pump—finally. After the Thanksgiving travel rush, gas prices have dipped, with the state average sitting at $2.82 per gallon as of Monday, according to AAA. That’s about $42 to fill up a 15-gallon tank. Prices are 5 cents lower than last week but still 2 cents higher than last month. And if you’re in Cobb County? You’re paying a bit more—$2.89 per gallon. The priciest spots? Savannah ($2.88), Atlanta ($2.86), and Macon ($2.85). Meanwhile, Dalton drivers are smiling at $2.68. Nationally, gas has dropped to $3, the lowest since May 2021, thanks to low crude oil prices and sluggish demand. AAA predicts prices could stay low through the holidays. For EV drivers, no changes—public charging still averages 38 cents per kilowatt hour. Want to save? STORY 5: AirTag leads police to Chick-fil-A theft suspect  Richard George Cintron, 47, of Dallas, is facing charges after allegedly swiping three Rubbermaid utility trash carts and an Apple AirTag—worth $1,545 total—from the Chick-fil-A on Barrett Parkway in Kennesaw. According to police, Cintron was caught on surveillance cameras, along with his personal vehicles, during the thefts on Sept. 14 and 28. The AirTag? It led officers straight to his home, where Paulding County deputies found the stolen items near his truck. Cintron was arrested Nov. 19 and charged with theft by taking over $1,500. He spent less than 12 hours in jail, released on Nov. 20 after posting a $5,000 bond. Break: STORY 6: Strand Theatre's Andy Gaines wins Governor’s Award    Gov. Brian Kemp and first lady Marty Kemp announced Monday that Andy Gaines, executive director of the Strand Theatre, is one of this year’s recipients of the Governor’s Awards for the Arts and Humanities. The awards, presented with Georgia Council for the Arts and Georgia Humanities, honor 10 individuals or organizations making a real difference in Georgia’s cultural landscape. “Georgia’s arts and entertainment scene has fueled our economy for decades,” Kemp said. “These honorees have left a lasting mark on their communities and our state.” Under Gaines’ leadership, the Strand generated $5.4 million in economic impact last year, supported 80+ jobs, and contributed $230,000 in government revenue. Recipients will receive a handmade mahogany sculpture by Fairburn artist Etienné Jackson. STORY 7: Mount Paran Christian School collects over 10,000 diapers for Bartow Family Resources  Mount Paran Christian School’s high school BETA Club and National Honor Society recently rallied their community for a cause that hits close to home—helping local parents in need. Through their annual Fall Diaper Drive, students encouraged families to donate diapers and wipes for Bartow Family Resources, a nonprofit in Cartersville that supports parents and babies. Flyers went up, announcements were made, and the response? Incredible. Over 10,640 diapers and 1,180 wipes poured in, stacking up at the school’s doors. Student NHS officers counted, sorted, and loaded the donations, ready for Bartow Family Resources to distribute essentials like diapers, formula, and clothing to families who need them most. Haines reflects on the choices women are asked to make and challenges readers to reflect on the way we value, devalue, or simply exist within the spaces of gender and grief. About Rayanne Haines: Rayanne Haines (she/her) is an award-winning hybrid author and pushcart nominated poet as well as a cultural producer of films, stage shows, and panels. Rayanne has penned three poetry collections – The Stories in My Skin (2013), Stained with the Colours of Sunday Morning (Inanna, 2017), and Tell The Birds Your Body Is Not A Gun (Frontenac, 2021) which won the 2022 Stephan G. When famed tenor and songwriter Pasquale Esposito was growing up in Naples, Italy, the music of Enrico Caruso would play throughout his house, inspiring him to sing at the local church in town. His dream was to come to America, to study and eventually perform. And that's exactly what he did. Fast forward twenty-five years, and Pasquale is now performing internationally to critical acclaim, and on Dec. 10, he'll perform along side world-renowned conductor Maestro Carlo Ponti on the Broad Stage in Santa Monica, California, presenting a magical Holiday concert of American and Italian traditions through spirited carols and emotional Neapolitan melodies. And I'm honored to speak with both gentlemen today on my show. I've known Carlo for some time now, and not only am I a huge fan of his work, but I admire his incredible talent and creative style. I'm also honored to call him a friend. Most people know he's the eldest son of the beautiful and talented Ms. Sophia Loren and filmmaker Carlo Ponti, and one can only imagine life growing up among such talent. But not only did Carlo inherit his parents gift of performance, he's lived his life in service of the arts, having founded the Los Angeles Virtuosi Orchestra, which raises awareness and funds for music education in the Los Angeles area. Elle se heurte néanmoins à une réalité moins favorable, celle des inégalités sociales. En France, l'éducation musicale fait partie des programmes scolaires mais les enfants, ayant grandi dans une famille de musiciens ou issus des classes sociales supérieures, ont plus de chances de développer un rapport privilégié à la musique. Parce que les instruments coûtent cher, qu'ils ne sont pas accessibles partout, la pratique musicale est donc inégale. Créé en 1975, au Venezuela, le projet d'enseignement musical El Sistema, visait aussi à l'intégration sociale et à la réduction de la pauvreté. Il a depuis essaimé partout dans le monde. Parce que la musique est aussi un espace de liberté, de créativité et d'expression, comment améliorer l'accès à la pratique ? Comment intéresser les enfants à la musique et diversifier les genres musicaux enseignés ?   Avec : • Martin Hochart, fondateur et président de l'association La Mi Sol, association qui facilite l'accès à la pratique de la musique  • Olga Pasquier, directrice exécutive de l'association Tous à la musique, basée à Lyon et dont l'objectif est de démocratiser l'accès à la musique. Un reportage de Tom Malki à la Philharmonie de Paris. Comment faire découvrir la musique classique aux nouvelles générations, en particulier les plus précaires ? Pourquoi pas en leur prêtant des instruments, tout simplement. Ça s'appelle le projet Démos. C'est la Philharmonie de Paris qui propose depuis 15 ans maintenant de mettre des instruments entre les mains d'enfants de 7 à 12 ans, parmi ceux issus de quartiers où l'accès à la musique est limité, que ce soit pour des raisons économiques, sociales ou géographiques. Et ces enfants vont ensuite être encadrés pendant 3 ans pour apprendre à jouer comme un véritable orchestre. Le concert final au terme de ce programme se tenant dans des salles prestigieuses telles que la salle de concert de la Philharmonie de Paris, elle-même (c'est quand même plus de 2 000 places). Mais avant d'en arriver au concert, Tom Malki a pu assister à l'une des répétitions avec tout l'orchestre au grand complet, ou comme ils le disent eux-mêmes : en « tutti ».  Le projet Démos de la Philharmonie de Paris est financé principalement par des mécènes. L'institution ouvre d'ailleurs une nouvelle campagne de dons.   En ouverture d'émission, l'école autour du monde avec Cécile Debarge, correspondante de RFI en Italie, à l'occasion de la journée internationale des personnes en situation de handicap. L'école italienne est reconnue pour son inclusivité. Les enfants handicapés sont accueillis dans les établissements classiques avec les autres élèves.  En fin d'émission, Mon premier stade, le sport expliqué aux enfants revient avec une nouvelle saison spéciale foot.
