One of the biggest movies during this sluggish weekend at movie theaters was "Reagan," the life-spanning look at former President Ronald Reagan starring Dennis Quaid in the title role and Penelope Ann Miller as Nancy Reagan. Co-host Bruce Miller shares his disappointment in the film that simply covers too much ground, while he and co-host Terry Lipshetz reflect on previous films about presidents (real and fictional). Bruce also has an interview with Leah Thompson of "Back to the Future" fame and Schuyler Fisk, the daughter of Sissy Spacek, who talk about their new Hallmark+ series "The Chicken Sisters," based on the book of the same name. The show premieres Sept. 10. Contact us! We want to hear from you! Email questions to podcasts@lee.net and we'll answer your question on a future episode! About the show Streamed & Screened is a podcast about movies and TV hosted by Bruce Miller, a longtime entertainment reporter who is now the editor of the Sioux City Journal in Iowa and Terry Lipshetz, a senior producer for Lee Enterprises based in Madison, Wisconsin.

How do I connect to the Angels? If anyone else can connect to the angels or their spiritual team, why not you? This was the idea that motivated my spiritual journey to expand my intuition. As I connected to my Reiki practice, I expanded my connection to spiritual guidance. Reiki has a way of opening up the channels to universal life force energy, and with that connection flows not just energy but also information. With time and practice, you can learn to have conversations with any spiritual being with whom you have a connection. Getting clear energetically with the Reiki self-healing you learn in our Level I course helps you get clearer messages and strengthens your intuition. There is also a question-and-answer practice and divine connection meditation in my book The Secret Art of Happiness that helps you strengthen your connection to your higher being and Divine Team. How long does it take for Reiki to work?It does really depend on the person and the situation, of course, but many people feel calmer and more centred right away after a Reiki session. A willingness to change is also a big factor as that helps to mobilize an energy to help clear out the old and welcome the new. Some people feel changes right away; sometimes, it can take a few sessions. Each session creates a momentum behind it that really helps to build on the energy shifts of the one before.Usually, I recommend getting two or three sessions about a week apart if you're dealing with something acute that is bothering you a lot. Then, as things calm, you can space them out every month or two just to keep everything flowing and open. By the end of three sessions, you'll have a good idea of how Reiki works for you and where it fits into your self-care plan. What do you wear to Reiki?Wear comfortable clothes to your Reiki session or Reiki class. Reiki is fully clothed on a standard massage table, so you can wear what you feel most cozy in. If you're coming straight from work, that's no problem, just wear what you have on! We've got lots of blankets and pillows, so you'll be warm and comfy.Reiki class is the same! Just be comfortable and wear what makes you feel happy. What does seeing a purple light in Reiki mean?Purple is the colour of the crown chakra and usually indicates a spiritual connection to an energy that is protective, loving, and pure. So if you're seeing purple in a meditation or Reiki session, most often that means that you are connected to source energy or that universal life force. In our work with Reiki, we use a practice called the Violet Breath that keeps the energy clear and straight from Source. Your practitioner is guiding the Reiki energy from the Universe to where you need it. Seeing a purple colour often means that the session is helping you connect to that pure and protective energy.Who invented Reiki?Master Mikao Usui lived in Japan from 1865 to 1926 and is the founder of the Usui Shiki Ryoho System of Natural Healing, the form of Reiki we practice at LunaHolistic. Master Usui studied a Buddhist Qigong practice, and after a 21-day meditation at the base of a waterfall on Mount Kurama, he got the insight for the creation of the Reiki system of natural healing. All of our Reiki practitioners can trace their lineage back to Master Usui. Can Reiki treat Depression?IMPORTANT: Depression is a life-threatening illness, and it is very important that you have a good support team of medical and mental health specialists to help you. If you live in Alberta, you can call 988 for suicide prevention and 211 for access to a 24-hour support line and other social support services like shelters and emergency child care.Reiki can be a wonderful addition to your care plan for depression. Some people feel a lifting of their spirits right away, and others find that a series of Reiki sessions are helpful. Reiki is much like a facilitated meditation, so you can get help getting into that calm mental state and get some support as you learn to practice meditation and grounding techniques. We hold the energy steady for you so you can harmonize with the feeling you want, peaceful, calm and grounded.Of course, big problems require a big team, and we often work with therapists to help support people with a variety of mental health challenges. If you're looking for a therapist in the local Calgary area, we recommend Joanna Card or Leah Thompson. They are both wonderful therapists. We highly encourage you to find a qualified therapist in your area if you are struggling with depression or think you might be.What does Reiki feel like?Warm and cozy! You can sometimes feel a buzzing or tingling or a deep sense of calm or peace. Some people fall asleep! You can feel the heat from the practitioner's hands (our hands heat up a lot from Reiki) and even the continued feeling of the hand even after the practitioner has moved on. It's pretty cool. Most people feel a deep sense of calm. They feel more grounded and centred, and that feeling can last for days to weeks after the session. What is Reiki good for?Reiki is fantastic for relieving stress-linked conditions. You get help to drop out of the fight-flight response and into the relaxed parasympathetic part of your nervous system. That restful state is where the body can heal itself. You often get insight into the mind-body connection and an awareness of how events in your life may relate to your physical well-being.We set an intention before every Reiki session, which changes the focus of the energy healing. You can set your intention to be for anything you like as long as it is positively worded and just about you. Reiki can help with past life healing, releasing patterns and unwanted habits, multigenerational healing, connecting to your spiritual team and angels, manifesting abundance, or connecting to your life purpose. Ask a Reiki Master Anything! If you have more questions, please leave us a message at our website: https://www.lunaholistic.com/podcast/We love answering questions here! Learn more about our Reiki Courses and Sessions, and catch up with our blog articles for more information on all the ways that Reiki works and can help you.
Leah Thompson... star of Caroline In The City... Back To The Future... and the new series on the CW network, The Spencer Sisters, checks in on First Look with Andy Morris to talk about the show.
Empaths Absorb Emotional Energy, and Reiki Helps to Clear itSometimes, empathic people absorb other people's emotional energy and Reiki helps to clear off any of that emotional smog. Reiki helps you set up clear energetic boundaries between you and other people. You don't have to take responsibility for other people's emotional states. You get a filter between you and other people's energy. It helps you get clear. When you have clear energy boundaries, then it is much easier to keep and set boundaries with others. It's much easier to say a kind no if you need to if you're in a state of clear energy. You don't have to take responsibility for other people's energy.Reiki Self-Healing and Emotional RegulationWith a Reiki session, you get help settling your emotions. The practitioner holds a gentle and steady focus on your calming intention. And then the energy combined with gentle touch helps you to regulate strong emotions. Learning Reiki is an amazing journey that has been life-changing for us. Raven is beginning her teaching journey in the new year. We teach over the course of eight weeks, so you get lots of practice. That way, you get an opportunity to integrate these powerful tools into your daily routine. Reiki can give you your power back. Reiki can also help so very much with stress-aggravated conditions like IBS or chronic pain. Both Geneva and Raven have experienced management and reversal of stress-linked conditions. In committing to the healing practice of Reiki, much healing has happened. It's a huge shift in quality of life.Emotional Wellness Practices and Extra Support for Strong EmotionsWe've got a number of resources that can give you extra support if you're experiencing strong emotional states.Therapy! There is a strong need to talk things out with a qualified person. Therapy can help to give you tools and work through some of the big events that have occurred in your life. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, EMDR, and Accelerated Resolution Therapy are all wonderful ways to learn valuable skills and work through various levels of trauma. You can do a search to find a therapist in your area, or if you live in Calgary, contact either Leah Thompson or Joanna Card, two exceptional therapists. The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel RuizPeople are working through their own stuff, and it might spill onto you, but at the end of the day, it is not about you; it's about them. The Four Agreements is a classic book that can help you not take things personally, be impeccable with your word, let go of assumptions, and always do your best. You Can Heal Your Life by Louise HayAffirmations are simple, positive statements to counteract the inner critic. It helps you to shift your mindset and encourage a gentle inner atmosphere, freeing you from strong emotions. You Can Heal Your Life is a textbook that we use in our courses to help set positive intentions for Reiki sessions. The Secret Art of Happiness: Change Your Life with the Reiki Ideal by Geneva RobinsAffirmation Ladders are a way of accessing a shift from strong feelings to a more peaceful space. It helps you to acknowledge the feeling and then make a kind space for the feeling. The Secret Art of Happiness is Geneva's book and a textbook for our Reiki courses.Plum Village AppMindfulness is a powerful tool to take care of your emotions. Jon Hamm is back, this time joining two different programs — "The Morning Show" and "Fargo" — as is the reboot of "Frasier," which brings star Kelsey Grammer back to Boston, where the character was introduced to us during the third season of "Cheers" nearly 40 years ago. There are also a number of reality series and game shows, another animated program on Fox that was in production well before the writers strike, foreign productions and remakes. Ultimately, it's a mixed bag that Bruce Miller runs through with his co-host Terry Lipshetz. The two also dive into favorite programs that 12-year-old Bruce and Terry liked to watch. Upcoming shows to watch with approximate dates: THE CHANGELING (AppleTV+ Sept. 8) — Based on Victor LaValle's bestseller, this creepy drama goes back and forth in time to tell the story of a family that may (or may not) have done the right thing. LaValle narrates; LaKeith Stanfield stars as man looking for wife and son in a not-too-friendly New York City. Twists and turns exist on every corner. THE WALKING DEAD: DARYL DIXON (AMC, Sept. 10) — Ready for another “Walking Dead” series? This is the sixth and it focuses on Norman Reedus' character, Daryl. He washes ashore in France, but doesn't know how he got there. Working his way back home, he encounters people who could make his goal more than a little difficult. Clemence Poesy, Adam Nagaitis co-star. THE SWARM (The CW, Sept. 12) — With U.S. production companies on hold until the strikes are over, networks are looking elsewhere for content. This German production looks at what happens when humans have to battle some underwater force that's determined to take over. It's based on Frank Schatzing's bestselling novel. THE MORNING SHOW (AppleTV+, Sept. 13) — Jon Hamm joins the ensemble cast that inclues Jennifer Aniston and Reese WItherspoon for the third season of the show that follows a morning network news program. THE OTHER BLACK GIRL (Hulu, Sept. 13) — An editorial assistant (played by Sinclair Daniel) has trouble navigating the waters as the only Black employee at her company. When another is hired, she discovers something wicked this way comes. Ashleigh Murray, Eric McCormack co-star. WRESTLERS (Netflix, Sept. 13) — If you loved “Cheer,” you'll probably find plenty to applaud in this docu-series. Following members of the Ohio Valley wrestling team in Louisville, Kentucky, the seven-part venture shows how the gym produced big names (John Cena, Dave Bautista among them) but now struggles to keep the doors open. BUDDY GAMES (CBS, Sept. 14) — Josh Duhamel turned his real-life vacations into a film (also called “Buddy Games”) and now interprets it as a competition series. Six teams of friends compete in a series of games designed to see who's best. WILDERNESS (Amazon Prime Video, Sept. 15) — When Liv learns her husband has been having an affair, she agrees to a road trip that could repair their relationship. Unfortunately, plenty happens that makes her question the move. Jenna Coleman and Oliver Jackson-Cohen play the couple. NEIGHBOURS (Amazon Freevee, Sept. 18) — The Australian soap (which ran for decades) ended in 2022 but that didn't stop the antics from continuing. Reviving the ventures on Ramsay Street, this edition picks up two years after the finale. Mischa Barton is among the new residents. THE SUPER MODELS (AppleTV+, Sept. 20) — They aren't just on the cover of Vogue. Supermodels Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington and Linda Evangelista are the subjects of this four-part documentary about their hold on the world of modeling. THE CONTINENTAL: FROM THE WORLD OF JOHN WICK (Peacock, Sept. 22) — How did that hotel become a hotbed for assassins? That's the focus of this drama set in the John Wick universe. Winston Scott (Colin Woodell) serves as the tour guide through the hotels he later comes to own. Ian McShane, you may remember, plays the character in the “John Wick” movies. Also in the cast: Mel Gibson as the man who runs the New York Continental in the 1970s. STILL UP (AppleTV+, Sept. 22) — Can't sleep? Don't worry. There's a whole world that exists after most people go to bed. Antonia Thomas and Craig Roberts play two who bond over the phone. KRAPOPOLIS (Fox, Sept. 24) — Hannah Waddingham turns in her “Ted Lasso” wardrobe for a shot at life as the goddess of self-destruction. With her family of humans, gods and monsters (it's set in Ancient Greece), she's forced to answer to her son, Tyrannis, the benevolent king of Krapopolis. Created by Dan Harmon, the animated venture brings to life all sorts of mythological characters. THE IRRATIONAL (NBC, Sept. 25) — Jesse L. Martin plays a professor of behavioral science who agrees to handle high-level government cases. Based on Dan Ariely's book, “Predictably Irrational,” it gives Martin another shot at crime-solving. LOVE IN FAIRHOPE (Sept. 27, Hulu) — What goes on in a small Alabama town? Get the cameras. This docuseries looks at five generations in Fairhope. Reese Witherspoon is an executive producer. THE GOLDEN BACHELOR (Sept. 28, ABC) — Old guys get their moment. Gerry Turner, a 71-year-old widower, gets to play the game, roses and all. Jesse Palmer hosts. GEN V (Sept. 29, Amazon Prime Video) — Just when you thought superheroes were in trouble (thank you, “The Boys”), the franchise expands to college where kids with super powers have to decide what team they're on. Expect a lot of flipflopping. FOUND (Oct. 3, NBC) — More than 600,000 people go missing each year. A public relations whiz and her team try to figure out why. Shanola Hampton, Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Kelli Williams star. THE SPENCER SISTERS (Oct. 4, The CW) — A mom and daughter (who are mistakenly viewed as sisters) solve mysteries. Lea Thompson and Stacey Farber star. Imported from Canada. SULLIVAN'S CROSSING (Oct. 4, The CW) — Maggie Sullivan, a neurosurgeon, moves home and reunites with her dad. Chad Michael Murray, Morgan Kohan and Scott Patterson star. Another Canadian import. THE FALL OF THE HOUSE OF USHER (Oct. 12, Netflix) — Edgar Allan Poe's work is updated and given a pharmaceutical spin. Bruce Greenwood, Mary McDonnell, Carla Gugino and Mark Hamill are in the house. HOUSE OF VILLAINS (Oct. 12, E! And other related channels) — Reality show villains compete for $200,000 and the title “America's Ultimate Supervillain.” No wonder there was so much trouble last year on “Vanderpump Rules.” FRASIER (Oct. 12, Paramount+) — That head shrinker (played by Kelsey Grammer) tosses the salad again and moves back to Boston (which means no Niles). There he deals with other family members, Lilith and Roz. LESSONS IN CHEMISTRY (Oct. 13, AppleTV+) — The page turner that became a 2022 bestseller is adapted for television. Brie Larson stars as a scientist who hosts a TV show when she's dumped from the university that could have ridden her coattails to the top. Lewis Pullman, Patrick Walker and Aja Naomi King also star. LIVING FOR THE DEAD (Oct. 18, Hulu) — Five gay ghost hunters go across the country looking for ghosts in order to help survivors. They go to noted haunted locations and play their own “Queer Eye” games. It's narrated by Kristen Stewart. FELLOW TRAVELERS (Oct. 27, Paramount+) — Two men attempt a relationship during the 20th century, when Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declared war on “subversives and sexual deviants.” The thriller stars Jonathan Bailey and Matt Bomer. LOVE ISLAND GAMES (Nov. 1, Peacock) — Another “Love Island” competition. ALL THE LIGHT WE CANNOT SEE (Nov. 2, Netflix) — This four-part series looks at blind girl and her father who flee German-occupied Paris with a diamond that could fall into the hands of Nazis. Louis Hofmann, Aria Mia Loberti and Mark Ruffalo star. THE BUCCANEERS (Nov. 8, AppleTV+) — A group of American girls in the 1870s look for husbands in London. It's inspired by Edith Wharton's unfinished novel. A MURDER AT THE END OF THE WORLD (Nov. 14, FX) — Murder, they wrote. Episode transcript Note: The following transcript was created by Adobe Premiere and may contain misspellings and other inaccuracies as it was generated automatically: Welcome everyone to another episode of Streamed & Screened an entertainment podcast about movies and TV from Lee Enterprises. I'm Terry Lipshetz, a senior producer at Lee and co-host of the program with Bruce Miller, editor of the Sioux City Journal and longtime entertainment reporter. Bruce, it's still like 90 degrees outside all over this country, but it's we're getting ready for fall the fall season. Time to break up the leaves, the pumpkin spice time. Oh, yeah. Pumpkin, I hate pumpkin spice. Oh, don't I? I hate it. Yeah, I'm with that. I just. We're throwing that out there. But that's what they sell this time of year is was the time of year that 12 year old Bruce would be making a list of all the new TV shows, making sure he got the TV guide that had all of the features about all of them planning and and trying to make sure that the fall TV's schedule was going to be perfect for the next year. Well, now, old Bruce says, is there even a fall TV season anymore? Because we've got two strikes going on and most of the broadcast networks are not introducing any new series because they want to save them in case they need them for content, for next year. So it's it's kind of a mixed bag, I got to tell you. But I do have some conclusions that I've drawn from looking at all of their like, maybe 30 some 40 shows that they've got on the books. Jon Hamm is the king of fall TV. Is Jon Amis in the new season of the morning show on Apple TV? And he is the lead character in the new version of Fargo. Oh, Fargo's back. You're going to get a double ham. Oh, I have a ham sandwich, if you will. Now it's his cup, but yeah, he's pretty big. And then another thing I noticed was there are a lot of series coming from other countries. The swarm. Are you familiar with this swarm? No. No, I don't think so. That bee film that I think was it Michael Caine was in or on or one of those ones way back in the old days. No, it's about water over the swarm of something under the water. That is going to really bell against the humans that are not keeping the water clean. It's based on a best seller from Germany, and it was a huge international production. They spent more money than Germany has ever spent on a series, and it's a cast of people from just about every country you can find. So part of it's set in Vancouver, part of it said in Germany, part of it's in Peru. It's all over and it's going to be on the CW. So that's that's coming up this next week. It's one of the first ones that will premiere. And I got to tell you, I think what they've done is they edited some of the R-rated content for broadcast networks because there's a point where that you know, that they're saying a word that probably starts with four letters. Mm hmm. And they blur out the big lips and then the eye that stays overnight at some woman's house. And you see them walking through. But you don't know if he's naked, but it sure looks like he's naked and it looks like they re-edited it to cut it looked a little a little more presentable. So it's interesting. You don't get the real kind of jump, the thrill that you're looking for, the jaws kind of moment until the end of the first episode. And then you see that killer whales are out to get you out. So that's that's one of the first ones that you'll see. That's kind of fascinating. Is it in English? Yeah. Oh, they they wanted to make sure it was an international production. So they're all in English haltingly in some cases. But yeah, but it's all done in English. Neighbors is going to be on Amazon freebie and it's a revival of the Australian series was a soap opera that ran for decades. And then Canada is providing two things for the CW dispenser Sisters and Sullivan's Crossing, and those sounds suspiciously like series we've already seen on The CW. But they're back. Leah Thompson's in one of them, Chad. Michael Murray is on another one. They were, you know, popular in other times. So they're they're grabbing what they can find to provide content. And then you're seeing a lot of game shows of some sort or another. They're the golden bachelor. You've heard about that. I'm sure you've seen the ads for them. Oh, yeah. Yeah. The guy, he's 70 something who who's looking for love. And you think, Wow. Who is advertising during this show? Peacock has Love Island Games, which is another Love Island series. But they're playing games, so then they don't have to have a script or anything like that. And then a really fascinating one, I think, is about the villains from reality TV shows. Now, here's a way for them to get all those Vanderpump Rules people out and into another marketplace House of Villains. It's called in Joel McHale. McHale is hosting that. So those are the kinds of things you're seeing on those those networks. You see what I mean? Yeah, we don't have writers. Yeah. So we're going to do whatever we can there will, or we're going to call it a documentary. That's another kind of a way of dealing with things. Fox has crap Apple is crap. Apple is this is a man and saw that. Yeah. They put into production quite a bit ago and it's about Greek gods and how they sit around and complain a lot. Hannah Waddingham from Ted Lasso is one of the voices. So, yeah, you know, that's an interesting thing. The boys, if you know the boys from Amazon. They have a spinoff called Gen B and it's a new a new era of super heroes, super villains. It's much like the X-Men where they go to school to learn how to be. What kind of superhero are you going to be? And, you know, okay, we'll see what happens. NBC has a couple of series that are real series. The Irrational, starring Jesse Martin, who is on Law and Order. It has him doing more kind of looking into cases and stuff. But the one that I thought was kind of interesting was called Found. And it's about a group of people looking for missing people. One who leads the team was missing herself at one point. And so they try to figure out where is all of this Mark-Paul gosselaar from NYPD Blue. And then, of course, you know, saved by the Bell is one of the people looking for help. And now what movies have sponsored some kind of content in some fashion. John Wick is coming to television as a prequel. It's called The Continental, and it's about the character that Ian McShane played and how he became like the head of the New York Hotel. If that makes anything that Scott Pilgrim saves the world has given birth to. Scott Pilgrim takes off. And this is an animated version of Scott Pilgrim versus the rest of the world or whomever or whatever it was. And then documentaries. Do you remember cheer? Did you watch Cheer at all on Netflix? I know. I know it. I. It's about maybe an episode or two. It wasn't something that really captured. It's not for me kind of thing. It's about a college cheer team. And it was all right. Was it Louisville? Was Texas or Texas? Yeah. They did two seasons of this. It was quite well-received. It won the Emmy for best Documentary series. But now those people have done their own version of another look at people. And it's called wrestlers. And it's about this place where they train basically all star wrestlers. John Cena was trained at this place. The Miz was trained at this place. And so it's done like it's a documentary and it's done, I think, pretty well for the circumstances and what the situation was. The people behind Cheer really know how to get in there and tell stories with with a crowd. And then there are some kind of fascinating ones. The one I'm most looking forward to is lessons in chemistry. And I don't know if you've heard of this book, Lessons in Chemistry is was a bestseller was Barnes Noble's favorite book of the last year and it's about a woman in the fifties who is a scientist and wants to really push that career. And of course, there are men that are keeping her from moving up in that world. So she creates a TV show, a cooking show that uses science to help her through everything, and then talk to the audience about this. And then you see her story play out. The book is wonderful. If you ever get a chance to read the book, please do, because it's fascinating. Brie Larson stars in that and Bill Pullman son is in it as well. So there are some good things in there that you might want to take note of. Another one to look for is fellow travelers with Matt Bomer, and it's set during the time of Roy Cohn and all of that kind of and Joe McCarthy when they were out to get a lot of people. Well, these are two two gentlemen in the government service who are trying to hold a relationship, if you will, a gay relationship during a time when they've been targeted by their own government. And so it's kind of fascinating how they will bring in real history and then comment on it from another another perspective. Okay. I'm Josh Duhamel. Did a movie called Buddy Games, and it was about how these friends kind of did goofy games out in the open during a weekend. Well, guess what? Now, you two can be part of the buddy games. And so they're creating teams of people to compete with one another, to be the best buddy game players. What would a buddy game entail? Well, it'd be like stupid things. It's very much not unlike Survivor. Okay. But it might be like, I don't know, pushing a a beer egg somewhere around the outside, you know? I mean, just dumb kind of dumb for sure. That's what it is. That's when you get a bunch of guys together and there might be alcohol involved. And it definitely is. And the airing each other, they're just daring each other to do whatever. If you were a were you a fan of Walking Dead? No, I it's one of those that just I wanted to watch it and I just never got into it. Well, guess what? Now you can start it again because it be doing the it kind of a spinoff series, if you will, called The Walking Dead. Daryl Dixon and this is Norman Reedus is character. And so then they focus on Yemen and finds how he works his way back home. So that's interesting. Hulu has the other black girl. It's about the only black employee at an editorial company. And then another black woman comes in to the company and how they both discover that there are some maybe not so aboveboard things happening at their company. Wilderness This is from Amazon Prime. Okay. A couple story about a husband and wife who go on a road trip. Now, does this sound now or it's just like you write going on vacation? Yep. He discovers that he has been fooling around. Now, now we've. We've lost your right. And maybe she's. She's thinking he might want to get rid of her on this trip and get rid of her, not just leave her at a rest area. No, it's like where suddenly she falls off a cliff. No accident. Oh, no. What happened here? So that could be fascinating, but I don't know how it would last more than a year. You know, at what point does divorce come into this? I think that would be great. Let's take another side. Let's take another summer vacation, honey. After the first time fails again, and this time we're going to be locking all the doors in the car and turning on the the the car in the garage. This could be fun. Supermodels. It's a documentary about the four big supermodels. Do you know who the four are like of all time? Like Christie Brinkley. And it's true. Brinkley is not one of them. Kathy Ireland. Elle. Oh, boy. Elle MacPherson. No, Come on. There's one that you are, of course, with Kate Upton. No, I don't know. Mary. Cindy Crawford. Oh, we're going back in time. Well, yeah, because this is like, all time, right? I mean, you know, I'm not bringing out Carol Meryl from Let's make a Deal. But there you go. Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Naomi Campbell. And it's a documentary about how they became these supermodels. It wasn't just they weren't just, you know, model models. They were the real thing. Can you sleep at night? And I know I'm an insomniac. Then you will love. Still up. It's at sleep at night. And they meet and bond over the phone. They talk about what's keeping them up at night. So who knows? Love Bear. Hope this is a Hulu series. That's a reality show, or as they call it, a docu series that shows you what life is like in hope and how kind of deeper is deeper than you think. There's more going on in that town than you think. You know, last night I watched Roger and me. You remember Roger and me? Yeah. I'm trying to think if I. I know the I know it, but I. Michael Moore did a documentary about Flint, Michigan, and how that town. Yep. Yep. Falling apart at the seams. Right. You need to go back and find out what happened. And they got the water cleaned up in Flint. But it was. It's very fascinating how he kind of kicked off a lot of this by just showing people doing whatever or talking to people about things that, you know, you never really realized. You never if you didn't put one and one together, you wouldn't get the answer that you're looking for. Now, you can see if you look back at Roger and me, how he has goosed the story a bit and how. Yeah, like trying to get the reaction he got. But that's what we're seeing with these reality shows. That's why something like Vanderpump Rules has this kind of. Well, let's just throw a little gasoline on this fire and see what happens. And that's what they do with these reality shows, is try to get a reaction out of somebody that maybe, you know, we didn't see it before or after. Okay. The fall of the House of Usher. Do you remember that Edgar Allan Poe story? I think I remember seeing it as a movie in the sixties with, like, Vincent Price. Okay. All the House of Usher. Well, they've taken because, of course, when you have this copy, it's free, right? Sure. Yeah. Anything that's already out of its copyright. Instead, it in the pharmaceutical industry and shows how this is how they're going to bring it down for the House of Usher. That's going to work. And that'll start in October. Frazier. Frazier is coming back. Yeah, Yeah, I saw that. Now I've got a question about that. But go ahead and set it up. Well, Frazier moves. Frazier is not going to be on the West Coast. He's going back to Boston. And very as he doesn't have, Niles isn't with him anymore. But he does get Lilith in there and he does have Roz visiting him. And then he also has a son in there. If you may remember, they had a son. Right. And he becomes a player in the whole story, too. And there are some touchstones when you look at it, you'll say, Oh, yeah, I remember that from Frasier, but it's Kelsey Grammer. Kelsey just decided to reboot the thing that's on Paramount Plus. So here's I saw a trailer for it about a week or so ago, and in one of the scenes, it shows Frasier kind of like hanging out at a bar. And it wasn't Cheers. So he appears just kind of the odd thing. Like obviously, Frasier, it's a spinoff of Cheers. And obviously during Frasier, there were a few moments where some of the main characters made appearances on Frasier because they went out to visit or Frasier went back to Boston. I can't remember all the the episodes, but I kind of found it odd that he wasn't hanging out at Cheers in the clip that I saw. Like, what happened to Cheers? You know, it's like, number one, did he go out of business? And that's why he's going to another bar or, you know, what happened to those characters? Because it just seems odd to me. If I used to hang out at a bar every day for how long was Cheers on? Like eight years. Nine years, Something like that? Yeah. So. So now he goes back to Boston. He doesn't go back to that bar anymore. So now I've got all these questions Running through my head is like, what happened to the Cheers bar? Maybe it was bought out by a corporation. That's right. Applebee's. You never know if it's an Applebee's now. Right. I have a fascinating one. I don't know. You know, there weren't a lot of names with it that were from the original series, so I don't know how well a will do when you just have a character and then you reboot it. But if some of the other ones are signing on, you know, they must think it's it's something. I feel like with that one you have to somehow address. Cheers. Or else it's just going to be weird to be back in the same city. I believe they do. I think you're good. Yeah. Okay. I don't want to say too much. Yeah, but, you know, the door is always open. Yeah. Like, I mean, you know, we know. I mean, obviously, Kirstie Alley died, so, you know, that's obviously something that can't be part of it, but. But Ted Danson is alive and obviously he could he could be retired old man in the show. And if that's what it is, and he does a cameo and he sold the bar and now it's an Applebee's, then I'm back. Yep. You know, but Lilith is coming back, so you will see her and you will see Roz. Those are two who have signed on for multiple episodes. So there's something there. But I. You know, willow work. I like the relationship between Niles and Frasier. I thought that was a real kind of cool thing, where it's like yin and yang. But we'll see. How about living for the dead? Living for the Dead is on Hulu, and it's a reality show where they go ghost hunting. Now, the ghost hunters are gay people, so it could be queer Eye for the Dead Guy. Oh, man. Yeah, we're really. Kristen Stewart is the narrator of this. And you know her Twilight. So we'll see what what happens, I guess. I'm not Belgian for these things. I'm just telling you what there is. Netflix also has a mini series or a limited series called All the Way We Cannot See. It's about a blind girl and her father who try to get a diamond out of Nazi occupied Paris during World War Two. Interesting. Yeah. Hallmark Oh is in it. But there are people that you don't know who have the starring roles. The Buccaneers. This is like, if you like. Weren't you a big old Bridgerton kind of fan? Yeah. Yeah, that in the 1870s. It's based on Edith Wharton's unfinished novel. And you know that they're going to have like Madonna singing. That's how they they roll. Right. Yeah. A Murder at the End of the World. This is on effects again, another limited series, very much like the Glass Onion, those kind of things where people are all gathered. Yeah. Guess what? One of them's dead. Who did the thing? You know, and it has a pretty, pretty star laden cast. But I think that's because it's just a, you know, a short run. It's not like suddenly we get another another whatever bookie. Bookie is coming out on Max. And this is about a bookie trying to make it in Los Angeles after they've legalized gambling, sports gambling. So it could be. Is that a is this a reality or. That's a the series series. Okay. It's a, you know, fictional. Yeah, but we'll see what happens. Do you remember the how man on HBO years and years ago? They did. It was like a horse racing, but then all the horses kept dying on set. Yeah, it's very I think it's similar. I think Monarch the legacy of Monsters now. And you know, you've got to sign up for, right? Yep. And these are, if you remember, Godzilla. He had all these kind of characters and everything. Yep. So they're bringing all those characters into play with this, and they've got Kurt Russell and his son Wyatt in the cast. Now, why would they do this? Why would they be in this kind of a show? But Monarch Legacy of Monsters coming on Apple TV. Plus the last thing I saw Kurt Russell in. Well, other than those weird Christmas movies are Santa Claus. Yeah, the there was a documentary. I can't remember what channel I saw it on, but Kurt Russell used to play baseball and his father owned a minor league. It was like the last independent triple-A baseball team in America. And it was a really fascinating. I don't remember what it's called offhand, but if you get a chance that that was probably the last thing I actually saw. Kurt Russell And other than those Christmas movies. Well, and he's you know, he had that big old beard that makes him look like Santa Claus. Right. But I you know, Kurt Russell is somebody who's ripe for a sit down where you say, oh, I got a lot of questions to ask you because I look at you as like Walt Disney's favorite kid, and he knew Walt Disney probably better than most people still alive today. And he could talk about that whole world and what it was like to be not necessarily a teen idol, but a teen actor, and then how he made the transition into really adult star. And then there's that whole thing with Goldie Hawn that we haven't unpacked, you know? And so there's a lot there that I would love to ask him about, but I don't know if, you know, he's open to that kind of stuff. He might be very guarded about his life, but he's going to be doing the Godzilla movie slash rings and then our last one that I have to put in the list is far away downs. Far away downs is a way of taking an old movie movie, finding the old footage that never got used and expanding it into a multi-part series. This is a Baz Luhrmann's Australia, and it starred Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman. And they're going to beef that sucker up and call it far away downs. Hmm. Now, that isn't that a concept? Yep. That's like all. What else do they save a lot of copy on? We're going to see this again. But that's a concept. So you see the reality shows that they're doing the they're doing we're adding in the old movies that are redone or re repurposed the foreign the foreign pickups. You know, it's all this stuff that you go, this is a season. I don't think it is. And they used to have slogans each. Now we're going to have its own slogan. I don't know is it everything old is new again. I don't know what it is here. Yeah, that's a word, basically. And it all starts this next week. The new series start rolling out and you will see them advertising. The stuff I did watch was it four episodes of The Morning Show? Okay. In a very big way, because they have an Elon Musk character. That's the Jon Hamm character who in the first episode is going to take somebody up in space and is maybe looking to buy the network. Interesting. So that gets back a little bit to the Apple TV, TV plus dilemma that I've talked about prior. So I actually just canceled Apple TV Plus, but I still have it for a month because it's you know, you cancel it and then you have X amount of time before it actually goes away. So I I'm finishing up a couple of things. The dilemma that I was in is that I watched about half of season two of morning show and then I stopped when I canceled it a year ago. And now I've got to decide, okay, I'm going to pick up the back end of season two and then maybe keep it going to watch all of season three. Or do I just put Apple TV Plus on ice for a little while? Go on to something else and then come back and knock through it? Is it good enough for me to stick around? So you got lessons in chemistry coming? Yeah. And then be in October and then I think you'll want to see that I watched one episode of that. Okay. Yeah, I was fascinated, but I could see I've read the book and I loved the book, and to see how it kind of transpired was interesting, but I'd stick with it, spend another then another six bucks, write something like a 99 plus tax event. Okay, seven. So, you know, you mentioned the slogans. The only one that I can think of, two that actually still applies is animation domination from Fox with crap awfulness. Oh, but there were a lot I wish I could tell you all of them, because I remember each network would have its own and they were. Oh yeah, ABC was the place to be. ABC. CBS had something to do with the eye. A lot of times are eyes on you or they, you know, they would do those kind of goofy things and then they'd have a song. And if you look back on YouTube, you'll see these old kind of premier video things where they do an episode of like, here's our new shows and we're going to introduce them with John Ritter and, you know, Gavin MacLeod. And then they would come out and sing and dance. Do you think how did they get those people to do that stuff? That must have been it's almost like indentured servitude, you know, But they're singing and dancing and wearing tuxedos and looking like they really love each other. And they probably hate each other with the animation stuff. With Fox, if I was maybe ten years younger, I might tune in to Crap Apple is, but I feel like the time is kind of passed. Or those. I mean, clearly they get the ratings to justify continuing. But I'm thinking about it. I was with The Simpsons from way back when it was on the Tracey Ullman Show. I watched every little short that was on Tracey Ullman. I watched every episode from season one and I watched every season from season one up until, uh, I want to say was maybe the 2016 2017 season. And then I moved from Wisconsin to to work down in Kentucky and I stopped. I haven't watched an episode of The Simpsons since, and it's very similar to even like Family Guy, like, I love Family Guy, but I don't know when the last time I watched a Family Guy episode and with The Simpsons in particular, it just feels like it's the same stories over and over and they just push it forward. Like there's one episode every year where it's about how Homer met Marge. There's another episode, obviously, of your Treehouse of Horror. You have to have a Christmas episode, you've got to have some episode, which is like, you know, some sort of Storytime Fairy tale thing. And it just feels like it's like, rinse and repeat over and over. We'll hire you to work on The Simpsons. I think, you know, the the formula and what I the thing that lured me in were all the signs in the background where I would have to watch and then you'd see that stuff and now I don't care. Is that so? Saying something about me. And I love The Simpsons. I do too. I don't know that I would. It's not appointment TV anymore and maybe be available. They've been on for what, like 30, 35 years now? It's 30 some years. And I knew when it first came out and I remember how kind of gruff the characters looked in the beginning. They were really not as as kind of smooth and, and Disney like and I don't know that they've really they've done anything with that because they're owned by Disney now who they always bit the hand of. They were always saying bad things about Disney and are they doing it now. I guess we'll have to watch and find it out. But they're they're probably not affected because by the strikes or anything, because they do everything a year in advance. So I think they're okay for now. But yeah, it'll it'll be interesting to see. At what point does it affect the following season with any of these animated shows? Because so then, you know, when we come around to next fall, instead of it being a 22 episode season, is it a 15 episode season? Right. Would they ever do a live action version of The Simpsons, do you think? I don't know. That's interesting. The sort of had one sort of, but I mean, where do you would, like cast it? Yeah, I do like because I think you could do it on stage really easily. You know, you'd be interesting, but I don't know if a movie version would work because you need some of those flights of fancy that they have. Yeah. So at the top of the show, you mentioned 12 year old Bruce getting excited for the fall season. What did 12 year old Bruce get excited for? What were your shows? Do you watch the 12? Oh, you know, I was a I was a huge Batman fan of the Batman with Adam West and Bird and I really thought it was a drama. I'll be honest with you. I did not see it as a comedy or campy thing. I thought, Oh my God, they yeah, this is just life or death. We've got to find out what happens with Batman and how he, Howie thwarts the Riddler. You know, when is a door not a door? I don't know, Batman. When is a door? Not a door when it's ajar, that kind of stuff. And I was like, Oh, that. So, so well-written. What I. What is this? But those are the things I hung clung to. And I was really good at kind of ruling the TV at that age. I don't know if you had your kids do this, but my dad would say, Well, now what time is? And then fill in the name of a show that I didn't want to watch. I think it's not on this week that it's not going to be on. We're going to have to watch this other show that I want. Like Gunsmoke was something I hated. I hated it. And I thought that was a vile series and that it can't be interrupted every week. They're not interrupting Gunsmoke. Every It's got to be on. I said, No, no Gunsmoke this week. It's not happening. Or rap patrol or combat. Those are ones. I hate it. I love the comedies, though. That was always my big thing. But yeah, and I would I would have all of the material, all the stuff you could think of. I have pictures of the set from the series of the stars. I you know, this is how crazy I am, okay? Because this will show you how part goes back. I have an autographed picture from Ed Sullivan now, who has an autographed picture of Ed Sullivan. Nobody, nobody would want this but 12 year old Bruce wanted a picture of Ed Sullivan and dammit, he got it. So there there you go. But yeah, so it was a big thing. And I don't know if you would, like highlight the TV guide like I did, but I would have it all marked up. And then I had to get a special version that would not be touched. Do not ask me where these things are. There's somewhere they got thrown. And that probably was when I went to college. My mother says, Get rid of all this crap or not having it in there. But I tracked this stuff just really intensely to make sure that I knew every little thing that was going on on TV. And those days, you could you could keep a handle on what was going on. The bad thing about television back in the sixties, seventies and eighties was that they often had more episodes than they had year. So if there were 30 episodes of a TV series, a number of them wouldn't get rerun, right? And so then they were just lost to the stars. You did not? Yeah. Somebody put them out in a collection and then you get to see them again. And that was always like, We've got we can't. We've got to be home. We've got to be home because we're not going to get to see this again. It's one time only. It's really a fascinating thing because I look back, I remember one year as a gift to my parents. I think I bought them season one of Leave It to Beaver on DVD and it was like 37 episodes. It was insane. And yeah, yeah. And I even, you know, thinking about, like, what you mentioned with episodes repeating, there were a lot of times in my childhood where something was preempted because maybe there was a State of the Union, you know, like the president, there's a crisis. So the president. Hopson And it and it great to have to break away from a TV show and then trying to figure out like when can I actually watch that again? And it wasn't until, you know, ten years ago even where you stopped having to worry about maybe setting a a VCR to to record something, because now, now, now it's easy. You just throw it on your your your program list and it'll record every episode multiple times for you. You'll never miss it, but that the times have changed. I remember setting one up and it had the the word that in it and everything. They had the word that, you know, it was recorded so quickly. My, my DVR was filled. But yeah, but yeah. And the other thing that would drive you crazy is if the weather was bad and they had to break in and you think, I'm not going to get to see this show, you've got to you've got to not talk. Do not do a weather update. I don't care. I would rather die in a heap of rubble from the tornado that's coming my direction. Then miss an episode of All in the Family, you know? Yeah. So the 1987 88 TV year would have been kind of covering my 12 year old. So looking down the list of like what the most popular shows was, and these are some great shows, The Cosby Show that was a favorite of mine. Cheers growing Pains, Who's the Boss? Did you know Danny Pitaro from Who's the Boss? He's actually from my hometown of New Jersey. Yeah. And he went to a different elementary school than I went to. So I never and then he ended up after he got into Who's the boss, he got pulled out and did tutoring and things like that. So I never met him. But I know kids that when I got into the middle school, like, Oh yeah, I had class with Danny Pitaro in first grade, that kind of things. And he's my age. So, you know, we were we would have been classmates together and also Alyssa milano because she's from Staten Island. And I, I would have to look again because I went to kindergarten on Staten Island and I, I think she may have actually been in the same public school district as I was. I'm not entirely sure. And that she's a couple of years older than me. You were working as a child. You need to have been working as a child. I know we could be. Yeah. Now. But yeah, some of these other shows do. Night Court. I was a huge fan of that. ALF The Wonder Years. These are some family ties near nearing the end. I don't know if I was still watching Family Ties in 87, but that was a favorite of mine a few years before that. But yeah, they had far more comedies back then. Yes, comedies repeated well and comedies were good for syndication, so we saw a lot of them. Now you don't see a lot of them because, you know, is there a repeat value there? I don't know. Yeah, and they probably are very costly in comparison to something else. And you look at some of the comedies that we do have and they seem very repetitive or redundant or, or they're just reboots of shows that might Frasier, Frasier, back again. Here we are. But yeah, and I think, you know, there was a time during one of the strikes where they just repeated old scripts and they took old scripts and then just, you know, change the, the actors and that did not work. Well, it did not. People saw through it and said, you know what? I think I saw this back with Martin Landau and Barbara Bain. So Mission Impossible is not the same. But they you know, they tried that. They were trying everything. And we'll see what happens with this, with this strike and where where it leads us. But the fall season, it's here all season this year. I mean, it's a couple of weeks until actual fall, but college football is back. The NFL's back in TV in some form may not be peak TV like we're used to, but it is back. Indeed. Yeah. It'll be fun to see how how it shapes out. Hey, we could be big game show fans, but games were there. Absolutely. All right. Well, on that note, we will move on from this episode, but we will be back again next week on Streamed & Screened.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In which the 3Ds debate the merits of hard versus soft science fiction -- and wonder which type each of the Gospel writers would be fan boys of. Along the way, we learn that whoever wrote Matthew really didn't understand the point of poetry; the need for Bryce Dallas Howard and Leah Thompson to direct more sci fi (a lot more, please!); Alan Tudyk is the perfect anti-star; and Dan is disgusted at the utter and complete lack of science in Star Wars. Dave and Drew are shockingly not surprised in the slightest.
It's an "old vs new" and honestly the 2012 version of red dawn isnt as bad as some of us on the show wanted to believe. But only one of the versions can be declared the superior film.Support the show

It's about time we revisited Nicolas Cage, so we watched the religious disaster film "Left Behind"! Jordan, John, and Rhiane discuss the many, many, many problems with this movie adaptation of the hit book series of the same name. Together they discuss Jordin Sparks having only three scenes, how this film would've been elevated with Ashley Tisdale, so much running, Leah Thompson's "rocky marriage" that's due to her religious beliefs, dancing at the mall, crazy guesses as to why people disappeared out of thin air, and so much more. Later, they do a segment of Reenactors and All Sides. Please leave a rating and review on iTunes so other people know that this podcast is worthy of a toast. Paul McDonald and Britt Mooney discuss Some Kind of Wonderful (1987) starring Eric Stoltz, Mary Stuart Masterson and Leah Thompson. In this movie, every character is chasing some status that they hope will give them a sense of belonging. The lie they believe is that status is where they have value. But truth and trust go together, leading to the intimacy and belonging we are all searching for. Join us as we discover God's truth in this movie! Questions What jobs/roles do you try to avoid? How do you perceive the other roles? If you work in a blue collar job, what do you think of the guys who work in the office? And if you have a white collar job, how do you look at the men who work in the trades? How do you define success? Belonging? Value? Where do you feel “not good enough?” When was the last time you felt anxious? Alone? Not enough? Can you identify the message you were believing in those moments? When have you said, “I'd rather be ________ for the wrong reasons than _______ for the right ones?” What is the part that feels terrifying, feels like death? What frequent message do you listen to that doesn't align with what God says? “Just a sinner?” “Worthless screw up?” “Loser?” Have you ever asked God what He thought about you? If not, try it (and if you hear something that isn't confirmed in the Bible, it's not God you're listening to). Start with the simple question, “God, do you love me?” Because you know the answer is yes. How would you feel being Amanda on the date? Join us as Jessika takes us on a behind-the-scenes tour of the 1990s Ninja Turtle movies. Come for the stories about Jim Henson, stay for the ragging on Corey Feldman. We will not be discussing the Michael Bay abominations. ----more---- Episode 9 Transcription [00:00:00] Jessika: God, am I wheezy on my microphone right now? Hello. Welcome to Ten Cent Takes the podcast where we serve comics knowledge on the half shell, one issue at a time. My name is Jessika Frazier and I'm joined by my cohost, the righteous reader, Mike Thompson. Hello? Mike: Hello. Jessika: Well, the purpose of our podcast is to study comic books in ways that are both fun and informative. We want to look at their coolest, weirdest and silliest moments, as well as examine how they're woven into the larger fabric of pop culture and history. Today, we're going to be discussing movies from a genre that is very near and dear to my heart, the Teenage Mutant Ninja [00:01:00] Turtles. Now we won't be doing a deep dive into the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, but stay tuned for a future episode. We are going to be talking about the live action, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle films from the nineties, the drama leading up to the making of the films, the ingenuity, and detailed involved in the filming itself, along with the casting crew and some of their recollections and anecdotes. But before we do Mike, what is a one cool thing you've read or watched lately? Mike: well, I know what we have both been watching actually. And I feel like, uh, maybe you need to start off this conversation. Jessika: So, yeah, cause I, I see that you have written the same thing as I, as we do have a shared file here. Well, I watched the first few episodes of MODOK, which just came out this year and it is witty and wonderful. Mike: I think it came out like a week ago. Jessika: Oh, sweet. Mike: Yeah, like it's real [00:02:00] fresh. Jessika: Well, thank you to my friend who was like, we need to watch this because you'll really enjoy it. And in fact I did. So, and now that I have my head sort of out of turtle world, I'll be able to watch a little bit more. But for those of you who haven't seen it yet, it follows a blundering Marvel villain with a big head and a super tiny body named MODOK. He flies around on this little hover in this little hover situation. It's very funny. And it follows his evil ventures and how they bleed into his family life in the suburbs, and it is produced by a variety of people. One of whom is Seth green and the show does have a very, a robot chicken vibe to it. It's done in Claymation and can get pretty violent and graphic, in a Claymation kind of way. But I wouldn't say it's a kid show. I also got a star-studded cast Patton Oswalt is in it. Amy Garcia, Ben Schwartz -whom I loved in Parks and Rec- John Hamm, Nathan Fillion, Whoopie shows up. There's a ton of people.I'm only four episodes in out [00:03:00] of the ten, that comprise season one, but I'm super looking forward to laughing my way through the remaining six potentially tonight. Mike: I'm not going to spoil it for you, but Alan Tudyk shows up in a role where he sounds almost exactly like Joker from Harley Quinn. It's great. Jessika: Oh, I'm so excited. So what did you think about it? Mike: We loved it. So Sarah and I wound up bingeing it last Friday when we didn't have the kids, because we knew it was not a friendly show, as you get the warning at the very beginning, talking about how this is a mature show and it is not, not for small children. I think we binged all of it in one night because you know, it was only 10 episodes and they're half hour. So we didn't know much about it. Other than I'd seen a promo image for it. I had seen a bunch of nerds getting mad about it online, but I also knew that Patton Oswalt was involved. So I was already sold because anything that man touches I will consume. We wound up just being blown out of the water. And it's so funny while also [00:04:00] being weirdly faithful to Marvel Comics lore and in a weird twist, we wound up adopting a dog two days later. And, it was very unexpected. It was a very spur of the moment thing where we saw this dog online and then decided to apply for him. And we got him and I didn't think this was actually going to fly, but Sarah agreed to it, much to her chagrin I'm sure later on, but we named him MODOG. So MODOG stands for Miniature Organism Designed Only for Gnawing because he's a puppy and he's chewing on everything as puppies do. We call him Mo for short, there's a graphic designer at my company who immediately whipped up an image of him MODOK's doomsday chair. So it's his face, but then MODOK's body. It's great. And I've shared it everywhere. And now I have a new life goal where I want to have Patton Oswalt meet my dog and then sign a printing of that graphic.So. Patton Oswalt, future friend of the podcast, please hit us up. Jessika: That was a really cute picture. [00:05:00] I literally LOL'd when I saw it. Mike:It was very good. It's also been turned into a Slack emoji in our work slack. And as a result, it's just getting spammed by everybody on my team. Jessika: Deservedly so. Nowonto our main topic, which is the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle films. First, I want to give a shout out to the resources I used in my research of these films. IMDB.com, movie web.com. There was a whole interview with the cast and crew of the making of the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle films from the Hollywood reporter.com. Turtlepediafandom.com, which is very well organized and has tons of information with resources cited and the film, The Definitive History of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which is basically the history told through compiled interviews of [00:06:00] those involved in making this amazing franchise. So these live action films, I don't know about you. I absolutely remember watching these as a kid, although I didn't realize that until I started watching them again and was immediately able to recall every scene from the first film. And we were also very much, and I've said this before on the podcast, we were very much a teenage mutant ninja turtle household. So it makes total sense that we would have watched that at some point, probably numerous times. I presume you also watched them as a kid. What was your experience with the films? Mike: I mean, I was born in the early eighties, I was very much that target demographic for the Turtles. My mom actually took me to see the first movie, I think four times. Jessika: Oh, wow. Mike: I think I mentioned in that Saturday Morning Cartoon episode, that the last time she just sat in the lobby and read a book Jessika: I still love that story. Mike: Yeah, which, f you ever meet my mom, that, that checks out. She's like, meh, he'll be fine. He'll be [00:07:00] fine. What's the worst that could happen. Letting my eight-year-old go into a movie theater alone. But yeah, I saw both sequels in the theater too. I think I saw The Secret of the Ooze twice. And then the third one was fine. I mean, we got it on video and I remember watching it a bunch of times with my siblings because they were pretty young and we would just pop it on because it was something that could entertain all of us, but it wasn't one of those things that we needed to see over and over again in the movie theater, as opposed to the other ones.I had so many of the action figures when I was a kid and I was just addicted to the cartoon for like longer than it was cool. Jessika: Hard same. Very much so. Mike: But I weirdly wasn't really into the comics. The Ninja Turtle comics were just never something that I was all that curious about. I was already into Marvel and DC and Image and all that stuff. Jessika: Yeah. Very nice. I'm going to get into production, actors and success of each of the films along with some other fun facts. [00:08:00] But first, can you please give me a brief overview of the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle film? Mike: Sure. So Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is the proverbial superhero origin movie. It's set in a New York that's still rocking the grit of the eighties, and it's also showing a bit more urban decay than we're used to. This New York is in the throes of a crime wave due to the Foot Clan, which has been recruiting wayward teens, and eventually training them to be ninjas of all things. I don't quite understand how you go from recruiting teens to just commit petty burglaries and then rewarding them with a giant warehouse full of video arcade cabinets and skateboarding ramps and graffiti walls. And regular or menthol cigarettes as was demonstrated in the scene that we get to see a very young Sam Rockwell selling the Foot Clan to teenagers. The movie introduces us to the Ninja Turtles, their leaders Splinter, the vigilante Casey Jones, [00:09:00] and TV reporter April O'Neil, as they all deal with the crime wave in their own ways. But then they eventually work together to defeat Shredder and his army. Jessika: Yeah. That totally sums it up. What did you think of the film overall on the rewatch? Mike: Honestly, I was surprised by how well it's aged. it's not like the current crop of superhero movies where those are clearly meant to be watched by adults who are fans of the franchise. And then also make it accessible to kids. This was clearly meant to be a kids movie that was tolerable for their parents who got dragged to the theater. It's a lot darker and grittier than I remembered. And a lot of those elements really went over my head as a kid. The Turtles and Splinter themselves, I also think are really impressive, which isn't surprising since the costumes and puppetry were handled by the Jim Henson company. I mean, when you hire the best you get the best. But yeah, most kids during this era had really only been exposed [00:10:00] to the cartoon. So it's a little weird at how serious they went with the overall tone and storyline. My only real complaint was how kind of janky Shredder's costume was, but he actually doesn't show up that much. It's like he's wearing, do you remember those like weird sequined , evening dresses that were all the rage in the late eighties, early nineties? Jessika: Oh, yes. The ones with the shoulder pads? Mike: Yeah, it kind of looks like someone took the fabric from that and then attached Shredder's blades and shoulder pads. And it's also the wrong color. It's red. They really needed to give him a cape and a belt and I would have been way more okay with that. But it's fine. Jessika: Yeah. Mike: What about you? How do you feel about it? Jessika: I think it held up pretty well on the rewatch. Like you said, it was super fun. As fun as I remember it. And I really liked April's role in the film, which was kind of, I would say edgy for like the nineties. She's independent. She lives alone, although her boss has absolutely [00:11:00] no boundaries. He just fucking shows up there with his kid and the kid's fucking stealing things from her. Like screw that, don't bring your kid here. Mike: She lives in this weird shithole of an apartment, too. Which doesn't make sense to me because she's apparently a really well-respected and popular TV journalist. Jessika: Mike we're women. We can't both have success and nice things Mike: I'm sorry. Jessika: That would be really threatening to the patriarchy. I really dig that she follows stories regardless of what others may advise her she should do. Like, she's not about doing fluff pieces. She's just like, no, let's do this thing. And at, one point she's almost mugged and she doesn't tell her boss because why, why, why, why should she, like, nothing happened really? And when he asks her about it, she has this like “for what” attitude, which I'm like, yeah, exactly. For what? Like, why should I, I'm not going to call my boss and be like, “I tripped on the [00:12:00] sidewalk and sprained my ankle.” I don't know. It didn't make any sense. So Mike: That producer really was, he was really there as an excuse to introduce the character of his son. That was really the only purpose that he was there for. Jessika: Yeah, he popped in and out. He wasn't doing much with that. Yeah. Also the animatronics were surprisingly great. I know it's Jim Henson, but like the nineties were a really good decade for, good animatronics between like that and Jurassic Park. You know, very, very good. So their movements were just really convincing. And we'll get into, part of why that is, in just a couple of minutes when I talk about the animatronics and the costumes. Mike: Yeah. I'm really excited to talk about that actually. Jessika: So picture this: It's 1989 and comic book movies were not wildly popular after a couple of recent superhero flops. Their turtles were initially [00:13:00] discovered by Gary Proper, who was a road manager for the comic Gallagher. He had previously worked with Kim Dawson and got her on board as producer. And they signed on Bobby Herbeck as the writer. This was kind of cool because during the writing process, there was a lot of back and forth between Herbeck and the original writers, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird to ensure that the movie was staying true to the comic and, per an interview I read, it was definitely a longer process than Herbeck had initially thought it would be. Mike: That makes sense because to be completely honest, the movie feels like a pretty faithful adaptation of the tone of the original comic, which was very over the top and gritty and violent. Jessika: Yeah, absolutely. And I, I do like that. They went back and checked instead of just said, okay, well we have the rights and we're going to run and do what we want to do with this. So now that they had a script, they had to find funding and a studio and a way to make the Turtles come to [00:14:00] life. So they pitched the idea all around Hollywood. All three of them were incredibly enthusiastic, but the studios were super wary after the recent comic book related box office failures. Mike: So out of curiosity, which movies were those that failed? Jessika: Howard the Duck? Mike: Oh yeah. Jessika: Yeah. And so it didn't do well. And there was another one before that, too, although it doesn't say on here, but Howard the Duck was the big one that people were like, yikes, we're going to go ahead and back off. Mike: That was George Lucas and Steven Spielberg. And they thought they had like the next star wars and ET their hands. Jessika: I've never even heard of it. Mike: Oh, oh, we should totally do a retrospective on it at some point. It's based on a Marvel comics character who is a anthropomorphic duck. They had a full animatronic suit. It's like, you know, Ninja Turtle-quality animatronics, and puppetry. It had all sorts of talent involved with it. And it was one of the biggest box office bombs. So that makes a lot of sense actually, because that'd be the closest [00:15:00] thing where you're talking about anthropomorphic comic characters. Jessika: I'm getting flashes of like a big duck costume. So I may have even seen flashes of it in my life, Mike: It's a weird movie. It's real weird. Leah Thompson, you know, the mom from Back to the Future is in it and this was like at the height of her popularity too. Jessika: Oh no poor Leah. Mike: It's real uncomfortable. There's a whole scene where she's in bed with Howard in lingerie. Jessika: Ew, with the duck?. Mike: It's, very weird Jessika: I don't like it. Mike: And very uncomfortable. Jessika: It's weird enough having these teenage, like teenage, they are supposed to be fun. Fact, they're supposed to be 15 during this, that they're all like over April. It's like, Ooh. Like she is definitely a full adult, a full adult, like you are 15 years old and you're, a turtle! Like… Mike: And that's unfortunately, [00:16:00] something that's carried on. I feel like the one thing that they don't actually ever do a very good job of adapting is the teenage aspect. I have hope for what we have coming in the future. We'll talk about that later. Jessika: Yeah, yeah. Mike: But yeah. Jessika: Ugh. So they pitched the idea all around Hollywood. After those comic book related box office failures, after months of persistent nudging, they finally wore down Tom Gray, who was the head of production for Golden Harvest and got approval to light the project with a $3 million budget. And apparently they already had another couple of million already floating around, like, yeah, no problem. Just, but we need more. Mike: They were already huge, and the funny thing is this is very much like how they actually got their first pitch for getting the action figures made where their agent was driving around with this giant turtle. I think Playmates was the last toy manufacturer that was actually willing to talk to them and they agreed to it, but they had been making pitches right and left [00:17:00] and no one had picked them up. Jessika: it was just, it sounded like such a whole thing that they were just like, Fox! How about you? How about blah, blah, blah. And everybody was like, whoa, whoa, you need to leave like exit through where you came from, because we don't want anything you have to tell us. Mike: Don't even take the main exit, go out the servant's exit. Jessika: Yeah, we don't want to see you leave. Just do it. can teleport. That'd be great. Mike: We don't want any association with you or your trash. Get out . Jessika: Oh no. So they hired Steve Barron as director. Mike: Right. Jessika: Barron wanted to make sure that the teenage mutant ninja turtles were a hybrid of the lighter animated series, along with the darker vibe of the comics, which is why there is that kind of middle point. It is a little darker, but it's maybe not as dark as the comics and that's intentional. They did want to make it family friendly because the comics really aren't, they're very violent. They're very graphic. You can put a dark spin on things and still make it [00:18:00] family friendly. Barron had also worked with Jim Henson on a previous project and knew Henson's Creature Shop would make the Turtles more fully believable on screen. Now, the issue was that this was 1990. Jim Henson was arguably the biggest name in the animatronics game, which of course meant his services were not going to be cheap. This edition would be $6 million, which of course was far over their budget. They also had to convince Henson to actually take part in the film because he was concerned that it was too violent for what his puppets should portray and might be a risky move due to his younger fanbase. Took some sweet talking from Barron -which seems to be kind of the name of the game for the Turtles- but Henson finally agreed to assist. And this was the first and what is thought to be the last time that Henson lent out the name to use in this way? Yeah. They [00:19:00] had to get another studio involved because they just simply did not have enough money. Mike: Right. Jessika: And finally signed on with Fox for a larger budget. Which also fell through. I read an interview that said within 10 days of when they were supposed to start filming, they still didn't have the funding. Mike: Wow. Jessika: So they were cutting it incredibly close. I mean, it had literally everything else. Mike: Come to think of it. I mean, yeah, that's wild. And then also - given the time that this came out- this has gotta be one of the last films that Jim Henson was personally involved with before he died. Jessika: Yeah. Actually we'll get into that. We will. Yeah. And not even on this, this part of it, but we'll we'll we'll we'll get there. We'll get there. Yeah. New Line Cinema eventually came through and signed on to produce. But offered significantly less money than the 6 million that had been proposed. Golden Harvest owner, Raymond Chow, agreed to fund the remainder of the expenses, whatever those were. Mike: Okay. I mean, that was a great bet for him. [00:20:00] Jessika: Okay. Yeah, absolutely. Shoot. So this is wild. We were talking about Jim Henson. Let's talk about the costumes because those things were awesome. There were actually two sets of costumes for each turtle, one for the animatronics, s

The all star lineup of guests that’s coming to this thing is sick and this is one of the, literally my favorite comic con of the year. We’re going to talk a lot more about it and we’ve got August gets like in the house. Uh, he’s got a cool a benefit they’re doing called Outback. Give back, uh, helping out, uh, people affected in Australia. We were going to a steakhouse. Yes. Cool. Bio bloomin’ on you get 15, 15% get dedicated, uh, donated to Australia. Give us a like on the socials and subscribe to us everywhere. Fine podcasts are sold, right. So what do we got? We got a, we got the Ann Arbor event coming up on the fourth. Well first off I went, I want to thank Detroit Detroit city distillery. That was our first time going there. Yeah, last week. Last Thursday. Um, and it’s the perfect bed. We’ve packed the place. Holy crap. Well it’s the perfect venue for what we do. Uh, I think we, we brought in about 50 ish people. Uh, not that person all there at five o’clock. Holy crap. It was weird. They were all there at five o’clock. It’s in right in Eastern market. Uh, it’s the perfect venue. I’ve do, I’ve gone ahead and booked once a quarter for the rest of the year for that place. I’ve, I look forward to going back there and I thank you to the staff or the parking lot. No. Great. Everybody loved it. And again, it was one of those things where people were like, Oh my God, I’ve never been here before. Keep hearing about it. Keep meaning to go here. Yeah. I love it. I think the only, cause that’s kind of the, one of the sidewalls of our meetings and I think the only complaint I heard was that some people’s nav took them the wrong direction on Rio poll. Oh, that’s fine. Yeah, fine. Whatever. Uh, but no, so, uh, the fourth, uh, is the Anarbor event. Uh, principal probably pretzel, but I was gay. Uh, so, yep. And uh, and then, Oh geez. And after that we will be at go figure astronomic con, uh, the following weekend, uh, or actually that weekend. Uh, and then our next event, uh, in Metro Detroit is going to be at the Woodward troub on the 20th. And yeah, that’s the scoop. That’s my story. I’m sticking to it cause I remember to set it up for the third Thursday. Not the fourth Thursday. That’s fine. It’s fine. It’s like saying I put him on the pepperoni pizza. I’m so stupid. Or put him on it to meet on the pizza. Just deal with it. Still felt dumped. My um, one of it is my favorite article of the week and this one hit home didn’t hit home, but you read it and you’re like, and it’s basically called the day Microsoft office turned into malware and Microsoft, if you’re not lucky dude, I’m trying to figure out, you’re going to screw the pooch with this one. This is, this falls squarely into that whole like do they not remember 15 years ago will antitrust thing? Probably not. Well here, let me, let me start. Let me start. What’s going on? Is it yesterday? Basically we got a office three 65 message center notifications by email and here was a change coming to the future version of pro plus. It’s basically roadmap number five, nine nine one seven for those keeping score at home, extension of Microsoft searching Bing to be installed to office three 65 pro plus customers. Basically it’s starting with version 2002 for old three 65 pro plus. They’re going to automatically and without your consent, install a browser extension in Chrome and Firefox. It sets your default search engine to bang. Yup. And you I can kiss my ass cause and for those who you know, who might not remember about 15 years ago, there was the whole antitrust litigation, uh, because Microsoft forced you to install internet Explorer wouldn’t have any of the other browsers yet. Eight yada. And like basically everybody knew the running joke was you fired up. I, he once went and downloaded Chrome. Uh, and then you never used IEE ever again back then you downloaded Firefox or whatever. Yeah. Well do you want to make G suite of thing? Cause this is how you make G suite of things. Oh for sure. A couple of things though. This is only enterprise customers. This isn’t your, every, your mom and dad’s office subscription at home. Nobody has office subscriptions at home office three 65, no radio. It impacts everybody from what I understand. No, it’s just enterprise customers, enterprise customers. And there’s a group policy that the administrators can push out that will prevent it from happening. It’s all three 65 pro plus. Okay. And you can prevent it from happening. But the benefit of this is that it will search across your, uh, enterprise SharePoint and one drive and everything. So it’ll show you relevant company results in your search term. So if you go search, are you really, are you really saying this is good? It’s, you’re taking that stance. I’m not saying, I’m saying, you know, who had that technology, you know, had it AltaVista had that tech. Google has that tech. Yeah. But if it’s integrated with your system, like this is, if you’re running office, then you’re using SharePoint and you’re running in one drive and you want search results from those won’t return. So the, it’s an extension that can be prevented, can be removed. But the enabling it by default is the bad part. I’m going to quote Gretchen wieners. I’ve never done that before. Stop trying to make big happen. It’s not going to happen. Never gonna happen. Did she say that or did the one with a mole on her cheek? I forget. I the one with the mall on her. Oh, what the hell is her name? Oh, dammit. I just wanted to say Wiener on the under the podcast. Of course you did. Uh, so, but in that same vein, so Microsoft, you know, we talked about this last week, so we can have wieners [inaudible] nice. So you know, we talked about how they, you know, they, they dropped, uh, you know, Microsoft windows seven became unsupported until it wasn’t, but, but then you have, what was it, Germany that paid, um, 900,000, 900 grand to keep it supported. Uh, and then even though they said it wasn’t supported, they had to release a support patch for it because tiled wallpapers were broken and people weren’t doing it. They’re just like, no, like, it like really, like literally that was apparently the only thing that was broken tiled wallpapers and they had to issue a patch for it. Uh, your desktop wallpaper might display as black when set to stretch. It’s Microsoft stretched, not tall. It’s still, well no, it’s affecting stretch wallpapers and fill a fit fill. Tyler center options are still being worked. Working on for a is why the computers at city hall have to go down for an hour tomorrow and Hamtramck so we can patch all of our windows seven so we can’t stretch or yeah, come on. Hey, still better than the city who for the longest time was the largest single windows Emmy in solid A’s. Just saying. And then, Hey, let’s just go for the trifecta. We’ll just stick with the Microsoft team and get this story out of the way. Uh, 250 million Microsoft customer records leaked. Yay. Who’s shocked? Anybody? Not anymore with anybody. Was it a, was it just an open file on somebody? One drive, 250 customer records spanning 14 years exposed online without password protection? Um, I don’t even know where to start with this. Um, and like where do they come from? This thing’s like a mile long book of, of w did you, did you see where the seat these things came from? Um, it’s metadata. It’s not all the personal crap was supposedly redacted, allegedly. Allegedly. It’s, no, it, I’m, I’m quite sure it is everything that’s out there. Um, so I, I did, I love this, uh, just because I’ve gone down this wormhole so hard, uh, the Disney app was far and away the most downloaded app in the fourth quarter. And how has that news anyway, somebody knows. And it was the most uninstalled after everyone watched lion King the third time and Mandalorian was done in another, like, all right, I’m done. Ah, see lot, I think a lot of people were saying that and then nobody actually did it. Why? Cause like everybody I know got their free year through the Verizon reason. I haven’t canceled YouTube after Cobra, Kai, because you’re too lazy to go. Effing canceled. They know it, but not the dude. I told you I went down. So here’s an, so actually, here’s my bitch about Disney plus. Um, so, you know, I’ve gone through, I went back and started bingeing the star Wars cartoons, uh, as am I right now just for this rebels? I’m in the middle of resistance. Okay. So, so like it would have been nice to know that there was a clone Wars animated movie before there was a clone Wars animated show. Cause a couple of the questions that I had about the show were answered by the movie that I found after I watched the show. And I know Randy, you’re gonna tell me the same thing you told me before, which is there’s a through the years, which is supposed to be the timeline that’s all out of order and out of sync. Like I don’t know who put that shit together. The movies, not cannon. Is that it? No movies can so, but no, like as I’m working my way through them cause after you finish. So I’m trying to make it all the way through it. Uh, there’s all the stupid Lego Yoda Chronicles ones, which I don’t think those are candidates. I don’t care. It’s in the through the years time. Cause I you said that and I’m like, okay, well I’ll just go watch it in that order. They’re all backwards. Like the last episode is first and then it jumps and then it plays like the last three episodes in reverse order and then it jumps ahead and then it plays like it’s just all screwed up. Disney pluses weird. Like it has like the uh, the pilot episode of darkwheel duck is like episode 28 or something like that. So I’m saying like if you’re gonna, if you’re going to have the nerve to say, here’s the timeline, Disney plus there to figure that one out. It’s a thing. But no. So yeah, you clone Wars was great. Rebels was getting, I’m getting ready to start resistance. I’m not a fan so far I’ve heard that, but I also wasn’t a fan of early rebels. I thought it was too childish too kid. And then it gets into more adult themes. It gets a little darker and I thought it was more fun. It gets more, more relevant to the future of the star Wars franchise. I think I’m waiting for resistance to take that turn where it becomes relevant to the first days. Yeah. So one of the ones I found interesting as you know, when you’re a kid and you’re like, when I grow up, you know, I want to be a mid level it manager at a half-assed company. Right. I want a cop. Well it wasn’t that a Superbowl commercial on my way to the middle management. No, that was um, CRN did one, uh, when I was in the it vendors who want to be a yes man. Now I want to work for a V a R I want to do a startup and build it up and sell it to Cisco and then do it all over again. Um, but apparently, uh, it was kind of shocking. They always ask, Hey kids, what do you want to be when you grow up? Teenagers, right? Like you kind of have an idea, well guess what, 39% of what they picked, um, are pretty much going to be automated and gone totally hit the work jobs in 10 years time. So by the time they get to be like 23, 24 and they’re going to be actually working professionals, uh, these jobs are going to be gone. So most of them, like if they looked at, and the funny thing is like from year to two, I’m convinced that nothing has changed since the year 2000 to today. Clothes, music, like TV, like nothing except for like some basic technology and streaming media. Pretty much the movies, there is no like weird Shara music. There’s no like nothing close are pretty much everyone’s dressing the same. Um, but basically everyone, it’s the same thing. Like in 2000, it was, you know, teachers in, uh, you know, business managers and engineers and doctors. Then you go through it and it’s pretty much the same crap is today. Um, but a lot of the things that are going to, um, writers, journalists, cause we talked about AI replacing Uber driver. I want to be, yeah, exactly. I want a side hustle. But if you look at, the only thing that’s really going to stick around is, is you have local doctors, lawyers, teachers. Um, what did I want to be when I was growing up? And there’s two acceptable answers. You’d know me pretty well as what, what would I, what do I, it’s I think people guess it right away. Campaign manager for Walter Mondale, close president. Oh, I was going to go yet politics of some sort when I was in fifth grade, my teacher told him he’s gonna be president. I said, yeah. And I went with it. Yeah, they didn’t say the slop. They though of Hamtramck. Right. Stop right there. Listen, I met the PTA teach. Well then I got to a point where I was gonna be a theater major. My dad said, I’m not helping you with college if you’re going to do that. So I went in the politics and fooled them saying, yeah, it absolutely is. That kind of goes back to my thing where, okay, if automation is replacing the desk clerk at McDonald’s, they still need to go learn how to code kiosks and repair kiosks and you know, go, go, go do that. And there’s still food runners. It’s not like they’re taking, the jobs are shifting, they’re not taking anything away. There’s still job growth. Um, so yeah, hashtag learn to code. Remember when that was bad. Oh, I know there was backlash about that cause huge back. Helping people to learn to code is apparently offensive. Awful. Yeah. So this company, Cruz, I, I’m intrigued like, so they’re basically building automated driverless vehicles, but they’re not just driverless. Like there’s no steering wheel, there’s no pedals. So if something goes wrong, there’s nothing there for a human being to jump in and try to save the day. It was really, really good airbags I guess. Like I don’t, I’ll never get inside of it. It’s a, it’s a GI, uh, Johnny car from, uh, uh, it is totally call it whatever you call it. I just reading it made me nervous and none. I get it. They’re going to be like geo-fence and they’re only in good weather and they can only go so far and they only use for like ride sharing and commuting. So then you’re on it and it starts raining and it just stops. And then what? See, here’s, here’s what they call it. Like Waymo, Google’s, um, they use a level, they call it level three autonomy cause they still need human backup operators who can take control in emergencies. Right. Which is what I want need. Well, even the whole like, dude, even Teslas tell you, you’re supposed to still have your hands on the wheel even when it’s in self-driving mode. Well, let me, let me retract my statement. Since GM just announced that 2200 jobs in Hamtramck with their new electric vehicle. Yeah. Here’s the stupid thing about the crews. So I think that back, I’m going to get in as soon as, as soon as it’s made out by giant or not. Here’s the stupid thing. The cruise vehicles, they’re calling it level four autonomy and they’ll go, there’ll be geo-fence that they’ll only be limited operating in mapped areas in relatively good weather. Yeah, they want you to take that instead of the bus in the morning and it’s going to be the Disney shuttle. It’s going to be and be like the minivan. So basically we will never have them in Michigan. No, no. Yeah, yeah. I don’t see it as a big thing in our climate, even though the climate is changing. I’d never get one. So gray and overcast and rainy days in January have just been one ugly March. Uh, it, you know what, I’ll take it though. I need to tell you last through February 7th. Oh, there you go. Well, you always [inaudible] on that question. Here’s the thing, like usually dumb business ideas. Usually someone talks about it a barn and it never makes it to the light of day. Um, and now the new, the new hotness apparently is pet Flix and chill. Um, and it’s basically a, did I went and looked some of these up. This is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard of in my life. Basically it’s, it’s, it’s you, you’re going to get a special playlist specifically for your dog, cat or hamster. That’s Spotify. So that Spotify, the specific music for your animal or legal to like Amazon? Yeah. Prime or even YouTube and look up like TV for pets. Now you’re on forever. Okay. Does the chill part come in? But the first three, I mean, but the first [inaudible] that I scanned through all had like squirrels and shit running around in them. Do my dog in a crate, sees a squirrel come on the TV. You have children in cages at your house. Dog. He’s gonna lose his mind. So you’re getting them all hyped up for nothing. Yeah, exactly. He’s going to lose his mind and go bad shit. Crazy. Cause he sees a squirrel like I know like the nest cams where you can like check in and say hi to it. Like Doug, what’d you think? That shell thing out. Michelle does it all the time. Ghost of my human beings talk to it sends a little lasers around so she gets off the couch and watch. I was thinking you would put on something like air bud or inspirational to, you know, come home last nice Beethoven’s third like Turner and hooch. Just think, just think right now there’s a product dev department and all these different companies on how we can have our products being used by people. Does a plot point in Scrooged like didn’t the old man want to start pet programming? Like will they just just have somebody instead of Kojak with a lollipop, have somebody dangle a piece of cheese on a string to, to entice mice and cats to what? It’s bad enough. They put them in those godawful like Halloween costumes, these pets or they throw cheese at their heads. These people are cruel as shit to their enemy. Bull reruns. Puppy. I tried to watch that documentary. I’m one of the puppy bowls boycott of the puppy bowl. Speaking of someone’s been listening, we’ve been talking about this since the 80s and we’re like, if you want me to go shopping with my goddamn wife at the red, Macy’s put a bar in the bar. Right? Well guess what? Someone had this epiphany now that Nordstrom, um, basically they’re, they’re calling it the shoe bar. Um, Oh, I’m sorry. The shoe bar was empty. And they’re like, well, what can we do? Like, let’s put a bar there, bar like an actual bar bar. Um, so now they’re basically having drinks, but like they say it’s for the women’s shopping. No, no, no. Let me know when they add a casino. Right, right. I’m sure you can bet on like different things. Like I bet she comes home with two pairs of shoes, not like going into the dressing room. Like I bet it don’t fit like 50 bucks. I’m always betting on don’t fit. No, I remember bars and malls, like I was always a little, there was always a bar Tuesday, but there was something in the malls that were like, and then there was always the snack counters in the, in the soda fountains at Sears and stuff like that. Well that was my favorite part of commando when they went into the mall, they go, it’s like they go into the bar and it’s like the smokey dive bar, like right in the middle. Like an Abercrombie and Fitch, like in like in this middle section of the mall. And there’s like all these like characters, the smokey, you know, like some all head. One of those kids. There was one at universal mall. It was a tiny little strip bar right across from the theater for when I worked there. When I was at Lakeside. Jonathan B pub was a tiny little one right in the middle of the mall and made no sense it wasn’t accessible from the outside. Putting on the third annual astronomic con. This is going to be February 7th through the ninth this year at the Sterling Heights. Wyndham garden 15 in van Dyke. Gentlemen, it’s always a pleasure to see you guys. How you doing? We call it mingle. Palooza, mingle. On top of that, it’s always like crappiest weather ever. It’s like six inches of ice and rain and slush. And last year it was like 50 degrees Fridays we were sitting out. No, I was sitting out. That was the joke. I was sitting outside on the cold bricks cause I felt good on my hemorrhoids. It’s like I was saying that to anyone that would listen. I’m like, I like sitting on these bricks because it’s great for my hemorrhoids and like anyone within earshot would hear me, they’ll be like, ah, it’s good for my hemorrhoids too. I love it. You too. So is this thing’s turned into like an all year thing for you guys? Has it not? It’s a tough one. It’s, it’s definitely something that I know at least Mike works. Uh, eight months out of the year on, I see you guys everywhere. We are like, you guys are hustling. You guys are at every con. You guys are at every event. We love it. Like you’re straight, straight up hustling. We’re trying, we’re trying to grow and I feel like the way we do things is different than most other conventions and you know, we’re, we’re trying to sell it, you know what I mean? We’re a convention of the people and that’s, you know, we go there and meet the people and, and want to see what they want. There was a, there was a reason I got, I fell in love with the indie wrestling, independent wrestling, and it was the intimacy of it. It was, you’re in a, in a small little banquet hall, 500 people and you actually got to shake hands and you got to yell at the wrestler and then he would acknowledge you right at the trying to make them crack. Right, right. Yeah. It’s better than like going, you know, Ford field and no one can hear you. You’re just like, there’s an instance like this show, you can go to the Cobo hall, 10 billion square feet, or like this show is, is, is, it’s, we’re on, everyone’s on top of each other and, and that’s the beautiful part of it. It’s like, it’s an intimate setting and it’s like, but you, you guys, I’m not gonna lie, you guys knocked it out of the park this year. Like you gotta I thought the first year you’d knocked it out of the park with the guest lineup. Last year you guys killed it. And this year I think you went, Oh, well you totally want up yourself. That’s, that’s a, uh, essentially in part due to the guy sitting next to me, Mike and George, uh, they, they know how to talk to people and get these people in that we want, uh, everything else, you know, as far as astronomic con’s format goes to is, is something that we, we have strived for for years. We, we, we make it for the people and you know, the people that, that go to these things to have fun. Well, during, during the break or before we got here, I’m like, you guys got, if you’re a wrestling fan, you know who Alexa Blisses, right? Uh, top five of the, you know, the, the women’s division and WWE and I’m like, how did you pull that shit off the scholar warrior? And it’s been a lot of work. But the nice thing is, is because we are fans, we know what people want to see. So whether it’s wrestling, horror, pop culture or comics, like in our group of people who handle astronomic on, there is a fan of all fandoms. So it’s like, all right, we’ll have a round table discussion. Like, who do you want to see? Who should we go after? And we get told no, but some people won’t come to February, Michigan. Some people don’t work before March because they don’t need to. And we try to work around that to our best of our abilities and really go out there and try to get those unattainable people. Because again, if I’m only going to one convention a year, I want it to be worth my while. Well you guys, you guys did something that no other convention did and I appreciate you doing this. And I think a lot of other people do too. You put the price list out for what everyone’s charging for everything. So now, you know, cause there’s sometimes you’re like, Oh crap, so-and-so’s charging. So I gotta go to the ATM and now you know, you can plot out who you need to see what you need to pay for bringing the appropriate money. Cause you know it’s going to cost an arm and a leg these days. Um, but you know what you’re doing most. Most, I say regular folk who are not familiar with going to cons or anything, don’t realize how conventions work. Like most people will think, you know, I paid my 20 bucks to get in and I just, I meet everybody and get all these autographs and get all these pictures and, and [inaudible] and that’s one of the thoughts that goes into the hidden things. Like we’re trying to, you know, try it out. I gotcha. You’re here now. Like we’re not trying to do that. We put it all out there. This is, this is how it works. And the guests that we bring, we really do try to coax into making it as affordable as possible because we know when you go to these big conventions, you’re seeing these people who are charging North of $100 for an autograph or a photo. We want to be looked at as more affordable for your everyday person like us. If I can go there with 100 bucks in my pocket and meet a couple of people as opposed to not being able to afford to meet one person and be like, Oh that’s the Hey, Nope. And it’s not like a Cedar point line either. The lions are not stanchions and you’re going left and right and left and right. Like you’re at the bank. It’s you’re, you’re essentially walking right by these people within five to 10 feet. So it’s like, even if you can’t afford it, you can be like, Oh man, there’s my man 50 grand. Like I’m going to say hi and wave and you’ll get a response. It’s again, the intimacy is legit. I mean like last year you had Debo, I should’ve called him Zeus cause I’m a rustling vital, but it’s Debo, however. So then you’re like ease except he sits in cracks on ya and he’s doing like yelling from across the room. Right. I mean cause this is the thing like I, all my stories are from astronomical, like Scott Hall turning off the bathroom with me and Erica too. He said that to his, his handlers. One of my best friends, his name is Nick. He’s like, Hey, you want to see something dark match and he flicks the lights out. But everybody yourself included is just you’re dealing with it. And then the same, uh, another similar experience talking about a tiny Lister when I took him to go do a, you know, news interview in the morning and we get to the front and the security guys there and he’s like, Hey, so can I help you? And I started off with my spiel, Oh, we’re here to see blah blah blah and this and, and the guy looks in and tiny just looks at him. He’s like, yeah, Hey, you know who I am? I’ve been here, the guy looks in and he’s like, alright, [inaudible] no, your deal. Oh for sure. And that was a big dude. Like there was a guy at the bar and he’s like, I didn’t know who he was from Adam. And I’m telling him where to get the pizza. And then I’m like, I walked by like, Oh shit, that was Michael Myers. Tony, my wife was there. And I’m like, I told that guy where to get pizza. Like you said, buddies, right? Yeah, of course. Okay, good. I said there’s like three different places to go. Pizza, pizza, sponsor. Okay. Pizza. Populist. I’m totally gonna add, can’t wait to drive that. GM autonomous can totally get out. Who sent him to jail? Right now I have my categories. So I said for like fast takeout, jets is Supreme. Like, you know, you have the different levels. If you want to sit down and do a list like this, you gotta be in the demoed. You know what I mean? Sometimes I want a little Caesar’s hot and ready. Sometimes I gotta have my, if you’ve ever sent anyone at my show too hot and ready, if you’re close enough to a hot and ready, if there’s a hot radio question, is it good? It’s hot. It’s ed. It’s ready. It’s substance. So how did you get, how did you get Randall from CLA? Like this is the first time that those two are together. Like if you don’t know what I’m talking about, that’s you. Randall and Dante clerk’s convention. He has ever done, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, never done a San Diego first. Never done anything versus first ever convention. And it’s timing and it’s, it’s a, it’s a combination of getting lucky. I’m not going to lie cause I know like, uh, Walt Maine was telling us Walt just won’t travel. It’s like he hadn’t, he’s another one on my list. And so is Kevin, to be honest with you, we’ve talked to Kevin Smith through his management in the blinders to do it. Like he was interested. So again, we’re fans. So to me, Kevin Smith is my, we’ve made it. Yeah. If I get Kevin Smith and Mike convention with us, me, Dustin, George, Jamie, Paul. That’s it. I never have to do another one. Windsor Comicon. I think like five years ago. Was it five years ago you had to do at night with Kevin? He was a panel, I think you have know, but it was like thousands of people in the crowd. We all, you know, they filled the Coliseum. They filled the Dallas. Yeah. So I know going into this, I’m like, all right, baby stops, right. I met Megan 15 and I’m like, when we started talking this, I’m like, we have to bring him. He is the, not the key. He’s the glue, the do’s, the glue from Michigan. He’s amazing to his fans. He is like, I beat, felt like we were friends after that. He’s the center of the Venn diagram. Why we turned him into mr astronomic then in the same room with them three times. He tells me he loves me every time he sees [inaudible] I cast it with Jamie and Paul and as soon as I got back from what I was doing, he’s like, you’re Mike. I’m like, yeah. He gave me a big hug. He’s like, thank you. I’m like, no, fake. Thank you. Like I was so excited. He has a picture of me and you, Bob and Dave and lucky that we all signed. He put it up on the wall at his podcast. It’s shared universe, the podcast, the podcast. That was like the first time we all kind of connected cause we were talking about whiskey. Right. Didn’t really know you well other than through the box pretty well, but well better. Yeah. And then you walk in just basically a bottle, a Jase and a bottle of peppermint snobs. We’re like, let’s go to town. Here we go. Yeah. Yeah. That was a good night. That was still the best expression I’ve ever seen in your face was the shot of dr McGillicuddy. Never, never again. You were the angriest man. I finally watched the Jane silent Bob reboot. I saw that. So just watch that. Just saw it, man gets the line, he gets the line poetry. Um, no. So, so between meaning and, and the management company that handles all of Kevin Smith people, um, you know, twist its connection to J muse. He helped save our bots. Year one. Brian O’Halloran not only came and did our show, loved it. We kept in touch. Um, he was like, I want to come back. I want to come back. He’s probably why we got, and, and I think that a combination of timing, because we’re February and there’s nothing else going on and really is, and they want to get Jeff Anderson’s feet wet in the convention world. They know we’re a good placement to be like, not too big, not too little. They take care of their guests very well. And um, let’s roll the dice and lots of do this. And Brian obviously helped Ming help. They’re both coming. They’re both with Jeff’s people. And so it’s like, if you guys really want to try this, here you go. Yeah. So we coined it the first year, uh, of in, at least towards Michigan people like, what else are you doing in February? Right. You know? Well, and it’s not like February in Jersey is any better. [inaudible] they moved out last, all that’s ready to add. He’s like, tech company doesn’t need to do any of this. Doesn’t care. Right? So he’s like, no, I want to say North, Northeast, Northwest. So he’s like Portland. I won’t say he’s like Portland, Oregon, whatever. And so he’s like, yeah, we’ll, we’ll, we’ll try it. Then he did one private signing with Kevin Smith and now it’s, I’m going to dip my toes in the con world and there’s like four conventions after us that have announced you’re getting the clerk’s reunion and with it being 25 years. First one. Yeah, we’re the first to have the panel. Jeff Anderson’s appearance them together and it’s 25 years of clerk. So it’s insane. Yeah. Well you look at, it’s funny like you know if you need help recording panels guy yes podcast Detroit we love you. But if you look at like whatever you’re into, like the whole, the horror scene, you know granted there was, I think you guys are doing just as good of a job if not better than like the stuff that’s been going on here. Like that’s the thing. And I think that’s one of the things that makes you guys so different. Like so. I mean there are plenty of, we, we’ve talked about it like there, there are comic book shows, there are pop culture shows, there are. But like you guys really picked a niche and ran with it. Good gumbo. You know you got all your, yeah, like horror. There are horror shows in the Tristate area, Michigan horror shows and we’ve got a little bit and so last year, sarcasm. I hate horror movies either way. That’s fine. Ron was the LABA limb fosus he did not say horror. Not bad. So we do things differently than you did. Typical horror convention that’s around here cause we do the costume photo ops. What else are you going to get? Sid Haig. May he rest in peace dressed up as captain Spaulding from a Rob zombie movie. Again, it’s not very horror. You could probably watch it. No, I get it. I get it. I just, I get all the pop culture references. I, I’m familiar with all that. I just don’t like to sit down and watch a horror movie. That’s all. You guys are crushing it. Keep crushing. Go. I’m looking at this right now at me. You know how Mark all that cool stuff and it’ll get like this smoking, abandoned car signed by like you know, a Burt Reynolds. I think I’m going to get the most obscure, ridiculous autograph in the history of the planet. I want to have it framed. Uh, Thomas, Ian Nicholas, who’s from American pie, who’s also in little big league. Now I’m going to get a Chicago Cubs Jersey. He sells them. [inaudible] be told I wanted to get Daniel stern before I wanted him, cause c’mon dude, between that and home alone. So when we got a Thomas Ian and I was like, all right, we really gotta try this and he just doesn’t want to do all he was on somebody’s roster as a client. Right? He just never did a convention. But yes, he does sell almost as original as your conversation with Lacey under Alshabaab. Ah, see, this is still one of my, one of my worst moments as a human being at Lacy under all this, right. Uh, Cindy, uh, what the hell is her name? Morris city. Morgan was in Tron and caddy shack. Uh, basically I used the caddy shack a lion on her and I thought it was original. So I said, uh, you know, Novi must be a nice switch from Drury old Manhattan and she, she don’t face him like, I’ve never heard that one before. Hell, are you talking about Madonna with meatballs? That would no work either. She’s like, no, keep going. Like, don’t you got her talking to him, got Kristy Swanson to do a dude, where’s my car line? But couldn’t, she didn’t like the Caddyshack line. She was like, no one has ever, they always asked her for Buffy shit. So when we asked her to say that we touched her. Who? Who’s, yeah. She’s like, no one’s ever asked me for that before we had her sign the autograph. Perfect. My who, who’s Sidney Morgan was like offended that the one thing she did, it was worth, right. The one notable section of your career, it was trying nerds all day. So here, right. You know what I mean? Like I’m like caddy, Cher. I got the, I thought I would think that would work. Right. I was going to be there. Depends on who you are. So bring all your leprechaun gear. Right, right, right. For the obscure. I guess at this point, like we have to understand they’d be, there was one of our best moments ever was, you know, we have a, Oh my God, I’m blanking on her name. Uh, from back to the future, Leah Thompson, Thompson and Bob brings her on Coke, introduces her and he was like, Oh yeah, you know, so Hey, you know, from uh, Howard the duck fame and like, you can hear her break out laughing. And she was like, Oh my God, watch. We are so lucky to be introduced with the star of Howard the duck. She’s like, what I’m talking about guys are clowns like, yes, we are one episode of something I did before I was anybody. That’s what you’re going to put me. Oh, of course. So I mean, I’m going through this list and I mean, I’m looking at like myself. Like Lloyd Kaufman to me is a God, and he signed like for free. He does. I met the paver that, uh, what was the place in pick Clawson Brown bag it. I got a sign, I got a signing from him, like in 94 book came out. And, uh, that was like one of the first times I ever went and got a sign. You know what I mean? The guy’s a absolute stinking legend. He created the toxic Avenger, which I know as a child in the 90s, he’s the co owner of a powerhouse in the underground. Uh, the B movie world is the movie horror world Sergeant Kabuki man, NYP class. Newcomb. I the guys that I’m looking at like, dude, I gotta talk to Charles Fleischer. Like that’s, you know, he’s a real life cartoon character. Honestly, talk to him on the phone, real life, do that. Whatever his flight was like, he’s like, Oh, do you know you travel this? You got your, you’re a frequent flyer number. Maybe like, Oh my God, I don’t know what his real voice is. He’s anything like Rob Paulson. That would be amazing. Yeah. His real voice would be the one that he used during welcome back Kotter. I was going to say nightmare on Elm street. That would have been the one ad and then you’ve got Skolnick man. You’re like, we’ve got the, Oh, we got the ogre drop. Yes. And on with the laugh. Huh? Oh, you did it better. Mike was blown out when we got Betty’s. Yeah. But I cleaned that up. I just need to throw it back in. Yeah. Like, Oh, I’m in love with a nerd. We got Betty to say that Titan signed by her. She was selling that. I go, Oh my God, I can’t believe she’s selling it. Hygiene. Right. So like, we’ve got Skolnick like, you know, come on man. They’re like, to me like that was like the Porky’s revenge of the nerds. Like those were my legs, my age. And I’m sorry. Isn’t Mickey Avalon the guy that sings my Dick? Yeah. Nasty. You have Mickey Avalon. He’s performing on Saturday night. That’s what I heard. Sonny. He’s, he’s performance. I asked her, do the Jane Fonda whiskey every Friday for the last couple of months. [inaudible] asked her that much. Everybody is Mickey Avalon alive or dead? And everyone’s like, I don’t know. He’s very much, Frankie Avalon is very much alive and Augie just got angrier that he’s [inaudible]. I ain’t gonna be able to do the Jane Fonda. What? Mickey Avalon. There’s a guy, uh, I don’t, I don’t know the horror movie, but I, Nathan Bazell, he played a massive levered Vernon, it’s like a mockumentary horror movie where he wants to become a serial killer and uh, Robert England’s in it cane hotters in it. He looks like sniffer in this press photo. He looks like Stiffler. I really bad. I would like to get Stiffler. Oh, that’d be awesome. What’s he doing? Not doing conventions. Tried. He can’t be doing anything. He goes underrated. I’ll tell you didn’t do it. Was he in SQL or did it house just in a TV commercial. Aton right now he’s a, he’s a, he gets all angry in the back of a car or something. I just saw him. Hey man. Martin Cove is doing commercials as, as I saw that koala Chi. That’s actually pretty good commercial. He did a good job with it. Yeah. So go into Le Dan, if you’ve never been astronomic on before. What’s a, I guess paint a picture, right? It’s our town. So the beautiful thing is, is if you’ve never been to astronomic con, we could explain it to you till we’re blue in the face, but you can currently go right now to Amazon and watch our 31 minute documentary. We filmed it last year. You in it Bob, and uh, you’ve got a nice yard called astronomical [inaudible] great Cod. I love this gun and you get to meet everybody and is great. I love it. And these guys do a great job, but I was like, all right, we’re using that. So yes, I gotta look it up now making of a pop culture convention. Astronomical. It’s free. So if you’re an Amazon prime member, you can just watch it for free. And if you’re not, you can rent to box. It’s very affordable. We do have like one minute clips of it on our YouTube channel, which has a bunch of content, but the short version is astronomic con is a pop culture convention. That’s also a party. Like the minute you get there until the minute you leave, there’s always something going on. Well, from the minute you get, last year wasn’t as bad. I’ll give them that much. We’ve cleaned it up because while Michigan is a friendly state to that, I want a family friendly event. So I want to be able to bring my three year old and my wife and not shabby at all. You replace the metal detectors with the alien D containment chambers, right? Sponsored by acts very heavy at the podcast Detroit table. Honestly last year you cleaned it up. I wish that we were never more popular in our lives than we were when the ladies were doing the body painting at the booth. The rocks or mud, I got in trouble for that. Everybody go for that. That so suddenly everybody wanted to talk to us about podcast, technically met Michigan laws that she was not nude. There was no technical, it meant Michigan law. But there was a, we got some complaints, families who complained that she was quote. And so instead of the approvers saying, Hey, I’m like, Hey Dustin, it’s me. Hey, you gotta go tell her to cover up a bit. And I’m like, Oh we never do video because let me look at me and Dave, we never do video podcasts. Oh you’re the guy that made me cover up. And I’m like, ah no, I don’t want to be that title. I’m the guy that told you two very beautiful [inaudible] stallion. He goes, let’s turn on the video. Let’s turn on a little video, see what happens. But no, again, when I say a party, like our stuff starts at this year, we’re starting early cause we’re doing a pool party cause there’s water park connected to our home. We have a pre, it’s on Thursday. That starts at seven o’clock. No pool parties. Good cause first cause you get to chlorine, you get to bleach. Well you get the actual astronomic on drinks so you can be [inaudible] and buzz. But you get into the three 30 on Thursday. Damn man. Gonna mess it off. But yeah, no. So it’s a party that starts Thursday night. There’s a concert Friday pool party into the convention, into a back to the 80s theme party with Mickey Avalon. Dirt. Nasty twisted. They’re doing an eighties party. Bob, I’ve heard eighties garb is a preferred, preferred [inaudible] I heard you do eighties well [inaudible] yeah, that’s what I, that’s my thing too. Yeah. Right. And then Saturdays I make you cover up. Well only if your paced, these are painted. Uh, no but realistically and it goes through till till Sunday at like five o’clock and it really doesn’t stop because people party in the lobby and hang out and it’s a real uh, all-inclusive feelings and, and it’s good vibes and it’s just fun. Lots of, lots of alcohol do. I bust that hotel for putting up with everything, dude. It’s more of a wall of us and we love them. It’s the NC 17 more hardcore version of it. Penguin, cotton and I don’t know that one penguin, I hear things but I’ve never been like, it’s, you know, there’s parties and chaos and mayhem and drinking in the lobby and all that stuff. But like this is, this is more the NC like that’s the geek version of what you guys do. Like during the day, it’s all family friendly and when the, you know, when it gets dark, when the party comes out, right? Yeah. Don’t cross the line. There’s always a line. But yeah, we’re having our fun there. I mean are there [inaudible] you get the more blurry those lines. Right. But by the time it gets blurry, I’m in my broom anyways by three 34 in the morning I passed out. You’re at four, I have to get up at eight. You get up a little later, an hour later versus three hours before I said don’t Wyndham Wyndham garden, Sterling available online. So, Hey, Aug, what’s going on? Hey guys, how are you doing that fam? Dude, I was told butters would be here tonight. Yes, I know. Um, butters are supposed to be here in a koala costume. Yeah. Will be my girlfriend’s tiny toy poodle that is going to be in a qual costume kissing booth for this Friday’s event. First of all, I want to take a moment to thank Dave for telling me that the episode that I filled in for Bob wasn’t the worst episode ever. The second one was not the worst episode they ever heard. That was the day that I was a more than a guest, but less than a host. Yes, you are a ghost. Yes. Guest. So I heard it was the worst. Well, I’m sure you heard it was the worst from your hospital, but I do appreciate the, uh, the chance to come and sit in with you guys for no, for no other reason. Not that plug in anything. Just to be here and a and talking. I’m sorry I had to do it. Bob, I’m glad to see your badge better with you here and like being here and I’m glad you’re doing well. Seriously. Yeah. I hope you’re feeling better. So yeah, we’re doing a, my girlfriend is Outback, give back. She wanted to do an event, and I’m not a big fan of the name, but it’s a great, amazing thing. So my girlfriend and four of her friends went to Australia back in August and they did like two weeks in Australia and I didn’t go because I do the Hamtramck labor day festival and that’s right. The canoe races and all that kind of stuff. So I’m like, you know, I also didn’t want to spend $1 trillion dude, I’ll show you for two weeks. Yeah. So she did that and then all this stuff has hit the fan and she did all the wildlife tours, all the koala, huggy. Although if you haven’t, if you haven’t been keeping up at home, like literally, it’s like the size of the United States. It’s pretty much been blanket. There’s one point a couple of weeks ago when every road in and out of Sydney was closed. Yeah. Cause you couldn’t, you couldn’t get in or out of the city because of the fires and the, and the smoke. So, and it’s, it’s displaced and killed just thousands and thousands of animals. Like 1.5 L, you know, Australia has such a unique animal population that those animals aren’t anywhere else. Right. So, uh, she’s had said, look, you do all these great crazy fundraisers that whiskey, we do the tracksuit party in a on a good Friday every year that benefits the friendship house, which is the food pantry. We do the Magnum PI party, which is in the summertime where we, everyone wears, you know, mustaches and Hawaiian shirts and raise money for the hero foundation. So can we do a fundraiser for the animals that we were playing with like casually in Australia just a few months ago. I’m like, you find the, the right legitimate charity that we know we’re given the right money to. And she did. She found the Steve Irwin foundation, which runs the Australian animal hospital that has always been there and is now just overloaded with just everything. Yeah. Obviously. I mean, they used to do like, you know, stop harvesting crocodile eggs now they’re like basically just trying to triage, filling up and unloading koalas out of the back of their cars and stuff. So, um, we’re very fortunate to have our good friend Greg [inaudible]. Yup. And if you’re not in the river or people know him from eight at nine next back in the day. Uh, so he is the cohost with Michelle. So, and Jerry, my lovely, beautiful girlfriend and a good cover. Good one. [inaudible] she’s beautiful. So yeah. So, uh, so Conip and Michelle are, are hosting this fundraiser we’re going to and it’s gonna be deejayed by our good friends who are good friends of yours as well. Matt Fox and Jamie Flanagan, who just opened up a new at Northville. That’s dumb. So, and they’re, they’re just wonderful. Jamie comes down to visit us every once in a while. Now he’s on 96, three on the weekends. I don’t know if you know you guys and all of that, but uh, yeah. So he’s, they’re going to DJ and get hip. It’s like I just get the host DJ smalls during Thursday wave. He did. He didn’t does sometimes, like two weeks ago he was doing thirst wave and to bring over to thirst wave. Um, yeah. It’s a fun party too. It’s a fun party, but it doesn’t go to charity like this one does. So, um, but that’s, and, and for the first time, actually it’s only the second time we’ve ever done this, the owner of whiskey in the jar who is not me, I’m just people that think everyone thinks so, um, is giving a percentage of the sale. He gets 15% of all the booze sales goes to the charity as well. So besides just raffling off a doing, it’s not going to be as big as like the tracksuit party where we have like 25 baskets. Anybody can win something. We’re going to do like six baskets of 50, 50, and then a percentage of the liquor sales. So, and then of course Conrad and Mikey, my partners and all this stuff, we’ll give back a big chunk of the money that we make, uh, as well to, we always try to get a nice even number when we’re, when we’re done. So, um, but uh, there’s going to be a, a cash kissing booth to kiss butters. Who is my girlfriend’s toy poodle wearing a koala outfit. And it is so damn cute. I mean, honestly better. Better than a real koala cause it’s one of those things that like, I, I love that. Like chlamydia. Well, no, well there’s that number one dad. But number two, like it was like, Oh my God, it’s so cute. It’s eating like the little eucalyptus leaves. Like that’s their like morphine, if they weren’t eating that they’d be biting your face when they go to sleep. Right. But like we realized that the tracksuit party at the Magnum PII party, which butters also comes to dressed up, uh, everyone just clamors to carry butters around the whole time cause she’s a tiny little toy poodle who’s just as adorable as anything. Attention whore. Yeah. And so we’re like, well, we’re going to charge people to carry butters around at the party. So that’s the butter’s kissing. But did you get the carry around butters for 10, 15 minutes for however many minutes? How many, many dollars you want to donate, something like that. And that’s going to be like the butter’s kissing booth. Okay. Um, and then it’s just, I think it’s a great cause. It’s, uh, we don’t do these pop up fundraisers at whisky. We’ve never done usually like usually your regularly scheduled, we’re coming up on our eighth tracksuit party, which I’ve already ordered my check so I’ve got a fresh Reebok off. You know how the Poshmark, there’s a Valore like a maroon Valora one for sale on my whatever. On Facebook. I scroll by like from Macy’s. I was going to text it to you today. You got, you got to get those, those it’s, we’re coming into, everyone starts rating all the resale shops in Metro Detroit because they know tracksuit party’s coming up. Somebody wants to have the coolest amount to find a troop one or of a lower Phila. And so that’s always a, I told you when I went, I didn’t even need to dress up. I just, here’s where your closet. Yeah, I just want your closet. I have so many now because we have eight of them that I will start like putting him up in the auction. Like, I got this old Reebok, it’s looks, looks like an astronaut outfit, but that one up there and you know, Mike, he’s got a fresh one. He just, he was bragging about it the freshman, he got an old Adidas one that came from Germany. Uh, one of my, uh, I, it doesn’t fit me. I’ll text to text you a picture of it, see if you want it. Yeah, I mean it at the worst. We put it up in the raffle. All right. You people to pay some money for it. So, uh, but that’s, that’s tracksuit party. That’s the next time I’m going to be here. That’s going to be I for good Friday. But right now we’re just, we’re hoping some folks come out, some animal lovers and people come out and support the Outback, give back. So, and it’s free. It’s this Friday night. It’s this coming Friday night and starts when, uh, at eight o’clock. Technically we always, we got to put a start time on it, right? I mean Mikey, Mikey, the Mikey is there doing happy hour at four o’clock, right in the bar opens, we’ll start selling tickets then. Um, and we’re really, really good about people that don’t want to stick around. We, we call you, we text you the basket you want and people come back the next day and the next day. His bartenders love that cause he got to come back to the bar and get your basket. You might as well have a drink while I’m here. You’re honest about it. We’re extremely honest about it. Like, Oh, you won. You didn’t, you weren’t here. That’s fine. Your phone numbers in the back. I sent you a picture of it. If you say give it to someone else, fine. If not, I go raffle. Yeah, we do raffles. We do. We do a raffle. You do always do baskets. Yeah. We’ll give you some tickets and tickets. That would be amazing. That’d be amazing. I know falling warehouse last night. Agree to give us a, a lane and all in a basket. We have a big Takata cooler full of booze. It’s all fifths of liquor. That works perfectly. That’s a, that’s gonna be a big draw a little bit. I like booze. Yeah. Do you like loose? Everyone met about you. So yeah, if a couple of tickets, gentlemen, weekend passes, you can do what you want with them. Oh, you guys are wonderful. Thank you. No worries man. So, and I’ll come back to you guys for the next fundraise. But anyway. [inaudible] so yeah, you’re, you’re now in rotation yet gentlemen. But uh, yeah, our other charities are the, the friendship house we always do, which is a food pantry that only serves for two and two. And that’s the, when we do the, um, tracksuit party for, and the hero foundation is a families where the breadwinner gets cancer and we take care of their holidays. And they’ve been doing that for years and years. A friend of ours father survived pancreatic cancer, which that’s the, you don’t normally hear it. Yeah, nobody does. It’s the 1.7 million. So I’ll break a glass to that muscle. It is, but it’s wonderful. And so that’s why, and that’s Mike, he’s on the board of directors of that charity. I’m on the board of directors of the friendship house and my girlfriend loves the Australia animals. So that’s why we’re doing a Outback. You back this Friday at whiskey, the John Hamtramck. All right, so easiest way to find it. Hit the whiskey in the jar Facebook page. It’s one of the events or there’s an event going, it’s a, and you know Mikey did the graphics for it. It’s [inaudible] whiskey is just like the nicest, friendliest, most fun place. Absolutely. You walk into that bar and you don’t know anybody and suddenly your best friend, you know everybody and it’
