You all love when Emily comes on the podcast. So the good news is, she's back! We last left Emily at her job at Quality IP facing the wall with people talking about lunch behind her. Turns out this opportunity was the final straw to Emily exploring entrepreneurship! We are talking about sales, the economy and ripple effects, the rate of change, and the safety net that is your credit score. Here's the update… The Next 6 Weeks Pretty safe to say the two of us like to plan. And there's a cadence or a cycle to organizing. We dream, make it real, complete the idea, and then we get to start dreaming again. Emily shared that she looks at these areas of her life the last week of the year or the first week of the new year: financial, spiritual, relational, emotional, mental, and vocational. She decides the next steps she wants to take to improve those areas and then strives towards the next step over the next six weeks which takes her to her birthday. She can audition new ideas and keep what works and what needs to be revamped. Recently she's been trying to get to the yoga studio. I remember when I used to do in-home organization and Carol, my partner, would always say “Let's audition the couch over here. If you don't like it then we'll move it back or audition a new location.” Emily has auditioned the idea of trying out this yoga studio, but it's time to look for a new gym or mode of physical activity to move her health goals forward.  Don't Force a Square Peg Into a Round Hole “Forcing things never prosper.” Emily and I agree I have a pretty high awareness of my intuition and I follow it. I have always been more focused on the destination rather than how I get there. I know what I want the end product to be. I asked Emily when she decided to start trusting her intuition. She acknowledged that she used to force things and go against her gut. And it was no surprise that things haven't worked out with this strategy. When they let her go at Quality IP, she thought “I'm done!,” I'm going to do business through relationships which is in alignment with me.” They wanted her to play the numbers game and she wanted to earn business through relationships. Despite her sales being stellar, they weren't happy she wasn't doing it their way. She was tired of forcing square pegs into round holes. Once she relinquished control, she felt God putting things into place to keep her afloat as she started down her entrepreneurial journey. She only has her income so she can't just sit back and collect unemployment. She has hustled. And let me tell you, in general, the hustle is back. The pandemic is over and we are back to the hustle and bustle of life. She has found a couple of marketing clients and she's done some odd jobs to supplement. These odd jobs have been put in her path. God just keeps winking at her to let her know she's on the right path. She's doing business through relationships and that feels much better than playing the numbers game. She's always been a fantastic networker and those relationships are paying off in her transition. She knows she does not want to work for anyone again. There's no forcing anything and she's listening to her intuition. She knows she's not in control. She reminded us all that we are only in charge of our thoughts, attitude, and our efforts.  Emily's Lessons in Business Emily pointed out not to count eggs that have not hatched. She shared that she had calls lined up that ended up canceling. That resulted in not making money. But Emily didn't sweat it because she'd taken advantage of all opportunities that had come her way. Don't say no to a money making opportunity today because you may have money coming in a week or two. Take advantage of all opportunities. A Friday Workbox® can really help a person to keep track of odd jobs while organizing your main stream of income.  Emily has found herself to be more productive when she starts the day with a list of priorities from the end of yesterday's work day. She made her list at the end of the day what was most important to complete the next day while it was fresh. And there is science that backs up the fact that the act of handwriting with a writing utensil (not a stylist on a device) provides better recall and encodes the information deeper in your brain. Emily took advantage of her good credit score before she was let go. She knew she had to have income to get a bank loan as a safety net for this transition. Keep your credit score in good standings. This has benefited me in my personal life and small business. We had to live off credit cards for a little bit when our children were younger. And I have been able to get lines of credit at two banks for Organize 365®. When I was looking into purchasing a building, my credit score was definitely a bonus for me, too.  The Changing Sales Landscape Things are moving faster since Covid. Change happens in about 3-5 years. But since Covid has dwindled down, the hustle is back. I remember many years ago learning about the Singularity Theory from Ray Kurzweil, that at some point everyone would know everything. I had the hardest time wrapping my brain around this concept. This has been made possible mostly due to the internet. The rate at which we learn new information is exponentially faster than 10 years ago. There's not the lag of relaying of the information that there used to be. Emily remembered asking a classroom if they thought there would be self-driving cars and maybe one student would raise their hand. She asked the same question a year later and all but one student would raise their hand. It went from no one thinking it was possible, but with a plethora of information coming at them, they learned and understood this could be a possibility one day. And now… When Covid hit, we all took advantage of technology that would have slowly been utilized. Covid catapulted that forward. Now most know how to Zoom, order groceries online, and alot of us rely on Amazon. All these changes were almost forced on us due to the restraints of Covid. And there has been so much ripple effect from Covid and supply shortages we experienced. We've seen the minimum wage has also gone up. But one part of the economy doesn't go up without everything else going up. There was stimulus money that was given to employers who in turn spent it on wages. And of course, the product they needed went up! Another example is the price of shipping a cargo container went up so high. But then once we could get them shipped, they sat at the ports because we didn't' have enough workers on the railroads I have also noticed that the fad of high ticketed coaching and other online sales funnels are starting to shrink. These strategies were popular based on it being a numbers game. Reminds me of the book “80/20 Sales and Marketing” by Perry Marshall. The idea is if you are in a bar, and you ratchet a shotgun under the table, 20% will look at you. Those are your people. Those people want what you have. Now build a relationship with those people because they are your client and know others with similar interests. When Emily had Rainmaker, her tagline was “Hope is not a strategy and everyone is not your target audience.” Focus on your target audience. We buy from people we know, like, and trust!  Well, there you have it folks. Emily is now an entrepreneur using the unique skill, knowledge, and abilities she has to do what she was uniquely created to do! The two of us aren't going anywhere. Welcome to The Nonlinear Library, where we use Text-to-Speech software to convert the best writing from the Rationalist and EA communities into audio. This is: A list of EA-relevant business books I've read, published by Drew Spartz on February 21, 2023 on The Effective Altruism Forum. Some have suggested EA is too insular and needs to learn from other fields. In this vein, I think there are important mental models from the for-profit world that are underutilized by non-profits. After all, business can be thought of as the study of how to accomplish goals as an organization - how to get things done in the real world. EA needs the right mix of theory and real world execution. If you replace the word “profit” with “impact”, you'll find a large percentage of lessons can be cross-applied. Eight months ago, I challenged myself to read a book a day for a year. I've been posting daily summaries on social media and had enough EAs reach out to me for book recs that, inspired by Michael Aird and Anna Riedl, I thought it might be worth sharing my all-time favorites here. Below are the best ~50 out of the ~500 books I read in the past few years. I'm an entrepreneur so they're mostly business-related. Bold = extra-recommended. The Pareto Principle says that 80% of the fruit comes from 20% of the labor. I first learned about this principle when reading 80/20 Sales and Marketing: The Definitive Guide to Working Less and Making More by Perry Marshall. This is not just a sales thing. It can be seen in nature, road traffic, and math. So, I started thinking about how this 80/20 principle applies to our homes and housework. I know that perfection is not attainable. Instead, I've resolved to strive for excellence. What does it look like to be an excellent homemaker? We tend to equate cleanliness with organization. We are looking for order but "cleaning" your house doesn't bring that order.  In this episode, I share with you how I have employed the 80/20 principle in my house to bring it to excellence but not perfection while also giving me time to do what I'm uniquely created to do. (Spoiler alert: We're going to talk more next week about using that extra time!) The 80/20 Principle is also known as the Pareto principle. What is the 80/20 Principle? The concept is that 80% of your results are going to be derived from 20% of your efforts. A principle of the 80-20 rule is to identify an entity's best assets and use them efficiently to create maximum value. Gualter breaks down how he turned $3,000 into $30,000 using the power of marketing. Marketing is the driving force for sales and Gualter strategically used marketing to pick up leads and turn those leads into sales. This sums up the power of the 80/20. As Gualter frequently mentions, “Work smarter, not harder”. Spending 20% of your time locking down deals to earn passive income that will generate 80% of your results, is way more efficient compared to spending 80% of your time selling single-unit homes that will generate 20% returns. If a person's energy is a combination of their past, their mindset, their dominant thoughts, and their perception of the world, then we need to spend time protecting, growing, and developing this asset. Gualter goes through the power of good energy and its impact on every facet of one's life. “If the token doesn't have a utility, I'm not investing” - Gualter Amarelo Unlike many other investors, Gualter ensures that the crypto he invests in provides some purpose/utility. Every business must serve a purpose and spending time to figure out your purpose, your ‘why' can effectively change your outcome drastically. You should spend time finding out the purpose of your business. Let's Do An Exercise Following the 80/20 approach, what is the result you want your client to walk away with from a transaction with you? What is the ONE thing earning you the most money, right now? Let's talk about a big misconception that a lot of people have about success. This might ruffle a few feathers. It might even ruffle a lot of feathers, but the big misconception goes something like this: if you're not working your face off, if you're not working 80 hours a week, you're not going to be successful. In other words, if you're not hustling—if you're not working non-stop—you aren't going to be successful.Don't get me wrong, some hustle is good. But not when it comes at the expense of your relationships and your health.Hustle is not a badge of honor. It can lead to physical and mental breakdowns. It can damage your relationships with the people you love the most. And hustle is no guarantee that you'll be successful. I know plenty of very successful people that work way less than you would think they do.So, today I'm going to give you some practical steps you can take to hustle less, reduce stress, and be successful in your business. In this episode, you'll learn:How to increase your profit by hustling lessThe key component to working less than 25 hours per weekWhy setting a 12-month revenue goal is importantAn eye-opening exercise to help you maximize your efficiencyWhy you need to assign a value to everything you do in your businessTasks you should stop doing and delegate right nowWhat you should not be delegatingDeveloping systems and procedures to help you reach your goalsThe first thing you should put in your monthly planner/calendarLinks & Resources Mentioned in this Episode:TogglPerry Marshall: 80/20 Sales and Marketing: The Definitive Guide to Working Less and Making MoreCanvaJames SchramkoDM me on InstagramVisit my YouTube channelThe Art of Online Business Podcast websiteCheck out my Accelerator coaching programFull show notes are available here

SDH 470: How to Create Urgency with Your Offers with Jack from Deadline Funnel

She Did It Her Way

Play Episode Listen Later Nov 1, 2021 35:35

Hello, hello my beautiful She Did It Her Way listeners. Welcome back to another podcast episode. Today I have a treat for you; today I am welcoming the very first male voice to the podcast! Please help me welcome Jack Born, of Deadline Funnel. Deadline Funnel is a software tool we use at She Did It Her Way and has provided so much value to our business and can help you to automate certain aspects of your own business, generate more leads, increase your revenue, and ultimately grow and scale your business.Like so many others, Jack got his start working in corporate America and after several years of working in a few different jobs and positions, he finally came to the conclusion that it just wasn't for him. After quitting his job on a whim, he quickly realized he needed to figure out his next move, fast. “It's the entrepreneurial version of jumping out of the top of the penthouse window and trying to build a plane on the way down before you hit pavement.”He had an idea for a platform that he wanted to build with something he had experience with which was helping to bring together travel nurses and healthcare workers. With his previous experience in recruiting health care workers this was a familiar space for him, and a need he knew existed. He created this virtual job board, while learning how to build his own website (this was circa 2002). He built what he now calls “the ugliest website you've ever seen” and it was off and running. When he was one year in, his wife came to him and told him it was time to decide whether it was worth continuously working various side jobs to keep the business going, or if it was time to go all-in on the business. He decided it was time to go all-in and gave himself a deadline. He made an announcement, launching, without really fully knowing what his ‘plan' was going to look like. After sending out email after email, he turned the volume all the way up on the final day, reminding people of the value and the deadline. It took off. “People can be leaning into your message, they can love your product, or your service; and they're eventually going to buy or they're thinking about buying, but they're just procrastinating. They're on the fence, they're dragging their feet, and the power of a deadline gets people to take action.”He did this for a while before deciding to learn from someone who he admired, author Perry Marshall, joining his team for nearly six years. But of course, he began to get that entrepreneurial itch again, so we started back in software on the side. Perry knew that he was hiring an entrepreneur and that Jack's focus started to get pulled away as the software became more and more successful.Jumping ahead, Jack developed and sold another business before he started building Deadline Funnel. He realized that he wanted to be able to use one of the most powerful and consistent triggers for helping someone make a decision, which is having a deadline using urgency to close a sale. But he wanted to do it in a way that did not sacrifice his own integrity. He started really digging into the specifics of what he was envisioning for this ‘tool' and discovered that no one else had created anything like it. Enter: Deadline Funnel. Deadline Funnel, at its core, helps creators (course creators, coaches, consultants, etc. - anyone who is selling something) to be able to maximize their sales by automating them. This traditionally is a very labor intensive process but Deadline Funnel takes out all of those ‘middle steps' taking care of it for you. It helps creators to scale and grow their reach so they can focus on the end-product. With a sales page, anyone can show up and make a purchase and it works. However, the typical conversion rate of even the most well written sales letter, depending on the origin of the traffic, is going to be on average around 1%. This typically is not enough for you to be able to buy advertising and to really scale your business. What Deadline Funnel offers is the mechanism to give people a timed deadline, and visually see when their specific offer is expiring. “It gives you the ability to give someone a special offer with a deadline and keep it accurate across devices and make all of the tough technical stuff just happen automatically.”When you do a launch, or holiday promotion, typically the biggest sales days are when you first open the cart, and the last day before the sale ends or closes. There's a whole bunch of people who have been paying attention to your Instagram or Facebook lives, your webinars, your emails, your replays, etc.; whatever messaging you're using, people are watching and leaning in, but they just haven't pulled the trigger yet. It's right at the deadline that it's either you're in or you're out and that's when people take action. One thing Jack is passionate about in his own life is mindfulness. Being present and aware so that he can really focus with perspective on what's most important. He also says that for his team, having integrity is non-negotiable.“One thing I that communicate to my team is that no one woke up this morning saying ‘I hope someone has yet another software that I can sign up for monthly or annually'. But the reason why we have 1000s of really happy clients is because we understand that what we do is we help people reach a bigger audience and to automate their business so they can do the things they love with the people they love on a time schedule that works for them.”Want to see how Deadline Funnel can help you with your next launch? Visit their website, or reach out to a member of Jack's team for a free screen-share or onboarding call. Their customer service is unparalleled and I can honestly say this first hand that you will not be disappointed with their high-level of service. To all of my listeners out there, until next week, keep doing it your way! Insights:“He decided it was time to go all-in and gave himself a deadline. He made an announcement, launching, without really fully knowing what his ‘plan' was going to look like.““He realized that he wanted to be able to use one of the most powerful and consistent triggers for helping someone make a decision, which is having a deadline using urgency to close a sale. But he wanted to do it in a way that did not sacrifice his own integrity.”“With a sales page, anyone can show up and make a purchase and it works. However, the typical conversion rate of even the most well written sales letter, depending on the origin of the traffic, is going to be on average around 1%.”“It's right at the deadline that it's either you're in or you're out and that's when people take action.” Resources:Check out Deadline Funnel80/20 Sales and Marketing: The Definitive Guide to Working Less and Making More by Perry MarshallThe One Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth About Extraordinary Results by Gary Keller and Jay Papasan

How do you endear yourself to the Chinese and make a lasting impact on a country like China? The mistake many of us make is to stereotype people but that only makes us foolish. When you’re in a country like China, there’s one thing that you should learn - treat people with respect regardless of country, belief or religion. Contribute to making a change to better society and don’t solely focus on making an income. Karl Weaver has 3 obvious passions: wireless technologies, softball or baseball and finally, speaking, reading and writing Mandarin Chinese, the latter of which he’s been doing since 1982. Indeed, Karl was pretty much the first person to sell a computer to China in 1989. Those are his passions aside from his family, friends, and his career. In this episode, Karl highlights the goodness that Chinese people have shown him. The stories he shares of meaningful memories experienced in Taiwan and Greater China prove that more than the place being magical, it’s the people themselves who are special. The respect he showed them was met with fondness and kindness, making it easier to adapt and become successful in a foreign place.   What you will learn from this episode: Find out the 80/20 rule you need to consider, especially for a business person, when you're not in your native country Find out the key things you need to be consistent with when you are an expat so you contribute to bettering society and not just generating income Find out the predictions made to get a sense of the expat world in China in future   “Treat people the way you would expect them to treat you. But I think more than the physical presence of the place, it's the people that make the place in Taiwan so special.” - Karl Weaver “I think this is a very important rule in life, especially for a business person, especially when you're not in your native country, which is the 80/20 rule. Well, listen 80% and talk only 20% because you're out of your comfort zone.” - Karl Weaver “I always try to use EQ when dealing with the Chinese world and dealing with the Chinese people, trying never to stereotype.” - Karl Weaver “I believe there are some key things you need to be very consistent with, which is your tenacity, your persistence to live in a different world and a different way of doing things is very, very critical. You just never know when you might be unintentionally insulting somebody, it can happen.” - Karl Weaver “This is the most important thing that I've learned, which is that when you're dealing with another culture, these people may speak a different language and they may look a little bit different than you but their thoughts and their emotions are virtually the same.” - Karl Weaver   Resources: 80/20 Sales and Marketing: The Definitive Guide to Working Less and Making More by Perry Marshall   Ways to connect with Karl Weaver: Website: https://newport-technologies.com/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/karljweaver/ Ways to Connect with Howard Whiteson: Website: https://www.wealthwithoutborders.net/ Podcast: https://www.wealthwithoutborders.net/podcast/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/howardwhiteson

Perry Marshall | 80/20 Rule | Book Review by Lisa Woodruff My March book reviews are all about sales. I share books that have influenced how I sell, the sales process I use, and how I have been able to create enough income to keep a small business alive, growing, and thriving for 8 years. 80/20 Sales and Marketing: The Definitive Guide to Working Less and Making More by Perry Marshall takes the traditional 80/20 rule and applies it specifically to sales and marketing. In my book review, I explain how I saw the 80/20 rule in action as a professional organizer and I use it in the 100 Days Home Organization Program. As a business owner, I learned about spending time and effort on the most important things, how to understand the “power curve,” and how to determine what to delegate. This book really helped me to scale Organize 365 and I highly recommend it. You can also watch this as a video review on YouTube.  Follow me on Goodreads! Today I’m very excited to be joined by Perry Marshall. Perry is the author of several fantastic sales and marketing books and splits his time between higher-end client work and equity in companies as well as his science and technology project Evolution 2.0. Today we’re diving deep into the ways you can find your ideal clients, how to successfully manage your sales, marketing strategies, and business growth, and what to do next when you finally reach the level of consulting success that you’ve been working towards. Perry shares some really great insights into the ways you can reach those goals even sooner than you hoped and I know you’ll be inspired by his success. It’s all on this episode of The Consulting Success Podcast with Perry Marshall.   30 Ways to Find Your Next New Client Most people know Perry as the author of sales and marketing books, but that is just the tip of his professional iceberg. Like Perry, successful consultants tend to have a wide variety of services they can offer the world. Consultants are thought leaders and thought leaders are naturally prolific with their ideas. Each one of those ideas just may be the one that will land your next new client. You can’t be afraid to act on any one of them. There is safety in casting your net wide, and Perry shares multiple ideas on how you can do just that. From writing books to hosting workshops and securing speaking engagements on podcasts and in seminars, every effort to gain greater exposure in the marketplace will bring greater security to your work. By utilizing different formats and materials, you are reaching all kinds of customers and adding diversity to your portfolio. But before you extend yourself too far, you’ll want to listen to the cautionary tale that Perry shares about securing this kind of diversity. It took several steps to gain legitimacy for his work, at which point he traded revenue for longevity. You’ll hear him explain why the trade-off was completely worth it and you just may be inspired to find ways that you can step out of your niche to become a more recognized expert in your field. Just like Perry, there will be times when you need to adjust your approach to your consulting business along the way. If none of your marketing strategies will provide you any return for another five years, you need to find a way to speed things up. On the other hand, if you’ve found an instantly successful strategy, examine it to see if there is a way you can make it a long-term sustainable facet of your business strategy. In both scenarios, the efforts you put in have the potential of producing great results.   The Evolution of Sales and Marketing If you can dedicate two years to your business, you can achieve consulting success. In the early stages of your consulting business, it is critical that you remain very focused on generating immediate revenue. Once you’ve got that pipeline of business in place, you can look forward to the next level of business. But how do you get there? Perry has four action points to help you get started. First, send out regular emails that are filled with high-quality content. Every email you send should make your readers want to read the next one, as well. And you never know which email will help you secure your next client. Second, dig a deep trench. Your business is your castle, and you have to protect it from destruction with a secure moat. If you can do this, you can immunize yourself from competition. You can start digging your trench by asking yourself this question — how hard would it be for someone else to do the same thing I’m doing? If your work is easily duplicated, your business is not going to last for long. You can prevent this duplication from happening by following Perry’s next point. Third, you have to build your network. You will hear this advice on every episode of The Consulting Success Podcast. Any time that you commit to your network increases the security of your business. Network growth can be as small and simple as gathering positive reviews on Google. But when you get to your customers first — before your competition does — you can start building your business first. And that advantage brings with it security and success. Finally, you need to ask yourself, “How can every client that I get create more value for every client that I already have?” You can make this happen by digging deeper into your niche. By specializing and identifying your ideal client, you are securing your position as the industry expert. And once you do this, the clients will come more easily than ever. Specializing is a critical step to building your consulting business. You can’t afford not to, even when considering the potential work that you might be leaving behind. If you’re hesitant to specialize, you need to listen to Perry’s explanation of the ‘disqualification process’ that comes with focusing your efforts. Instead of trying to convince people that they should work you with, you need to identify the kinds of people and businesses that you are not willing to work with. Taking every gig that comes along may be where you had to start in the early stages of developing your consultancy, but as your business grows you have to be selective. The consultant that is willing to dig deep and create stability for their company is the one that is going to rise to the top. For Perry, this meant focusing in on GoogleAds. For you, it might mean something else. Whatever it is, if you can gain the attention of your specialized marketplace, you will find success. By securing your position as the specialist, you will get where you want to be. People may not be able to remember five different things you can do, but if you can be remembered for one good thing, you can also make yourself available to help them with their other problems that you can solve.   Managing Business Growth In 2008, Perry decided it was time to expand his business. Companies around the world were retreating, but Perry saw an opportunity for growth. He took a chance, and his efforts were just about 50% successful. But the lessons he learned through the process were crucial ones. The biggest lesson Perry learned was this — at least half of the work that you do can be automated. Most likely, only 25% of the work of your business cannot be done by anyone else but you. Are you putting your effort where it needs to be? Learn from Perry’s experiences and start focusing on that 25%.   The Next Step After Achieving Consulting Success Picture it — you’ve finally arrived. Your business is successful, you’re turning away requests for work, and hand-selecting the clients you want to do business with. Maybe it’s even time to sell your business for a healthy profit. But is that the right step? Many successful consultants find that getting a big pile of money — while it sounds very nice — is not actually the answer to achieving true success in your life’s work. In the heart of so many consultants, success comes when we get to wake up in the morning, solve somebody else’s problems and feel truly useful in the world. That is what successful consultants want to do. If you feel like you’ve gotten lost along the way or like you’ve forgotten the true purpose of your work, you need to listen to my conversation with Perry. Your mindset about your work will affect your success more than anything else. No matter how big your company grows or how big your income is, your problems aren’t going to go away. But your approach to solving those problems will make all the difference in your success. I want to encourage you to enjoy the journey and embrace the lessons you’re learning along the way. As entrepreneurs, we have one mandate…get as rich as possible. How did you react when you read that? Did it make you feel uncomfortable and even a little squeamish? Money is not a “zero sum game” (meaning in order for me to win you have to lose) – it is quite the opposite. Money is infinite, a representation of the wealth created by entrepreneurs, tradesmen, and investors. So if money is infinite, why don't you have more? That's part of the fabric of my discussion with Perry Marshall on today's show. Perry is one of the most expensive and sought-after business consultants in the world. I think you'll enjoy the conversation. Click here to download or listen to this episode now. Spiritual Foundations The Bible often uses the natural world to teach us lessons about how to live an abundant life. A perfect example of this is found in Proverbs 6: 6-11… Go to the ant, you sluggard! Consider her ways and be wise, Which, having no captain, Overseer or ruler, Provides her supplies in the summer, And gathers her food in the harvest. How long will you slumber, O sluggard? When will you rise from your sleep? A little sleep, a little slumber, A little folding of the hands to sleep— So shall your poverty come on you like a prowler, And your need like an armed man. As entrepreneurs, we’re like the ant. We have no boss to force us to do what’s necessary. Either we do it, or it doesn’t get done. Now go forth and prosper! Tip of the Week Imagine me mentoring you each and every month. What would that make possible for you? We would start with an intensive training about how to get your online marketing system set up and running, no matter what type of business you own. Then, each month, we would do a live video training session where you could ask me any question you like. Each month I would sit down and write you a 12-page memo about what to do, and then I would deliver a proven marketing campaign you could copy and use in your business. We’ll be opening the doors to this new, group coaching/mentoring/training program in the near future. “My biggest mistake was I didn’t understand how I sell.” “Google and Facebook, they’re both these huge ecosystems. There’s lots of things that you can do, and there’s lots of ways that you can target traffic. It’s world within worlds.”   Intro Today my very special guest is Perry Marshall. Perry is one of the pioneers of digital marketing and he actually grew by being one of the first leading authorities on Google AdWords. According to Entrepreneur Magazine, “Perry Marshall is the #1 author and world’s most-quoted consultant on Google Advertising. He has helped over 100,000 advertisers save literally billions of dollars in AdWords stupidity tax.” His Chicago company, Perry S. Marshall & Associates, consults both online and brick-and-mortar companies on generating sales leads, web traffic, and maximizing advertising results. I’ve decided to sell, am I a sales maggot now? Well, there are people that are maggot-y. There are approaches that are like that, and it’s just a matter of not choosing that approach. There is another way to be. I think if you’re really clear about that, that’s the first step towards eradicating some of your head trash that you might have around sales. A lot of really good people, especially salt of the earth kind of people, really have a hard time with that…They don’t want life to be a big, giant, sales promo. But on the other hand, we all have to persuade; we all have to be powerful. We all have to sell, we all have to enlist cooperation, we have to raise money, we have to get customers to write checks. Nothing happens until somebody writes a check and commits to something. There are important things that have to go on in the world and we have to untangle ourselves from, “Oh, because I sell, does that make me one of those sleazy guys over there?” NO, it doesn’t. Discovering Google Adwords I learned about pay-per-click, and I never really understood it until then. Google Adwords had just come out maybe a month or two before that, and nobody knew much about it, and most people didn’t even use Google yet back then because this was in 2002. I said, “I’m an engineer, I love Google; I’m going to go do Google.” Within about three days, I was like, “This is the most amazing thing I have ever seen in my life. Oh, my word. This is crazy. I am not telling anybody about this.” How to do Facebook Ads Facebook is hotter than Adwords right now. It’s probably easier to get started because it gets you more instantaneous results, but it’s getting competitive too. Here’s what you have to understand about all of these things is they’re all based on – you have to track conversions, you’re putting a certain amount of money in and you’re going to get a certain amount of money out, and you just have to optimize until you get there and you have to incorporate a lot of creativity and a lot of different ideas because there’s no way to know what’s actually going to work. You just have to test like a banshee.   Mentions Connect with Perry on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn Visit Perry’s website https://www.perrymarshall.com/ Is AdWords for Me? www.IsAWforMe.com Is Facebook for Me? www.IsFBforMe.com 80/20 Sales and Marketing: The Definitive Guide to Working Less and Making More by Perry Marshall

Perry Marshall is back for round two of our conversation! With a decade of research, he brought us fresh (and common sense based!) perspective to the 150-year old evolution debate. He is the author of Evolution 2.0: Breaking the Deadlock between DARWIN and DESIGN. In this podcast we dive deep into Godel’s Incompleteness Theorem and how it is applicable to our ability to question all things that would have been told is fact. We once again question the battle of evolution vs. creation and why the journey of our curiosity really is the purpose of our existence and the bliss that should come from the fact that we will never know it all. In this episode of the DREAM. THINK. DO. podcast, Mitch Matthews talks with Perry Marshall, one of world's most expensive and sought after business consultants. Perry is credited with launching two movements of modern marketing. His Google AdWords books laid the foundation for the pay per click industry that is now at $100 billion. Or at least building some kind of machine that earns them money so they can work less and do more of the things they love. For many business owners, however, this is far from their reality. It can sometimes feel impossible to achieve that kind of freedom - after all, if it was easy, more people would be doing it.   Perry Marshall, my guest on this episode, shows how this can be done using the Pareto principle. The 80/20 Sales and Marketing book By Perry Marshall is so much more than a business sales book. Even after listening/ reading this book 10 times I still cannot comprehend all the concepts Perry expounds on. Understanding the 80/20 rule – that 80% of ____ is done/ achieved/ consumed by 20% of the people is powerful. But Perry adds the 10x dimension to his understanding of the 80/20 rule and takes the possibilities of implementation to a whole new stratosphere. If 80% of your time at home is spent in 20% of the rooms… what if those rooms were perfectly organized? 80/20 Sales and Marketing: The Definitive Guide to Working Less and Making More - Perry Marshall Die 80/20 Regel besagt, dass 80% eures Umsatzes von 20% eurer Kunden kommen. Zero to One: Notes on Startups, or How to Build the Future - Peter Thiel Peter Thiel, der Autor, ist der PayPal Gründer, vielleicht kennt ihr ihn ja daher. Throwing Rocks at the Google Bus: How Growth Became the Enemy of Prosperity - Douglas Rushkoff Ein Buch zum Thema Anti-Innovation. In this episode of the Art of Paid Traffic, Perry Marshall, author of '80/20 Sales and Marketing: The Definitive Guide to Working Less and Making More' explains why and how the concept of the 80/20 principle can be applied to growing your business through paid traffic. The 80/20 rule, or Pareto's Principle, states that 80% of your results come from 20% of your efforts or input.  Perry shares exactly how to use this principle to grow your business while working smarter rather than harder. In Today's Episode, You'll Learn: How to use the 80/20 principle to squeeze more out of your paid traffic. How to use 80/20 to figure out where you should be spending your advertising dollars. What 80/20 tells you about where to find your customers. Perry shares the concept of “racking the shotgun” and why this is a concept you need to understand if you want increase your paid traffic results. Why he pushed a bunch of people away from buying his book on Facebook ads and the lesson we can all learn from this. How do you decide where to focus your energy to get the biggest ROI for your business possible? The concept inside of every 80/20 is another 80/20 and another and another... And a whole lot more!
