Nick is leading a historical tour when he hears that the Coast Guard needs help with a rescue. Being an ex–Coast Guard officer, he takes a boat out to assist. Suddenly, Ella appears in his boat — she's been transported from 1905 to 2025!They're both shocked, but Nick sails them back to shore. Ella threatens to turn him in to the authorities, but she's clearly confused — this is not the Newport she knows. When she introduces herself, Nick is thrown off. He asks what year she thinks it is. When she answers “1905,” he's like, “Uh oh.” He assumes she's just an overly committed cosplayer. Then she spots an inflatable snowman and faints.When she comes to, she heads back outside and is horrified to see that women wear pants. She walks to what she believes is her home — but there are strangers living there. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY HOUSE?!” she yells. The family explains the history of her estate and how she's actually a famous historical figure. Ella is stunned. She decides she has to get back home — and what better way than by boat?But when Nick inspects the boat, he's shocked: none of his modern equipment is there, the carvings are different, and the name on the boat has changed. It's clearly her boat.To prove who she is, Ella shows them a secret hiding spot containing her belongings — including a diary no one knew existed. They finally believe her and agree to let her stay at a local bed and breakfast. One guy, Francis, theorizes, “What if the present and the past are happening simultaneously? I believe her. 1905 Ella hasn't started The Giving House yet, so clearly she must make it back.”Nick tells Ella that he thinks she's time-traveled. Ella mentions that before meeting him, she saw a comet — maybe that's connected.Nick takes her to see the town's Christmas tree lighting, and she's absolutely blown away. But when she spots a monument dedicated to The Giving House, she's shaken. As she reads it, Nick gets word that Ella is beginning to disappear from old portraits — and right before their eyes, the text on the monument starts to fade. They realize they need to get her back to 1905 before she vanishes completely.Nick researches the comet and learns there's a “Christmas Comet” that appears every 20 years. Ella confesses that when she saw the comet in 1905, she wished for a different life. The good news? The comet is coming again — in just five days. The bad news? That gives Ella and Nick more time to fall for each other, which they definitely do.As they stroll through town, Ella notices a man who looks vaguely familiar. She later learns he's the man her father bought the boat from. Nick's like, “Wait — that's the same guy I bought the boat from.”They track him down, and he introduces himself as Rex. Ella is stunned — that's the man she's supposed to marry. Rex admits that her father sent him out to rescue her after she ran away… but something went wrong, and he was transported to 2005 instead.Rex explains that when he arrived, he found a letter leaving the boat to him, with instructions to eventually sell it to Nick. He doesn't know who wrote the letter, but he figured out the Christmas Comet is the key to returning home. The twist? He's not sure he wants to go back.Ella's torn. She knows she's destined to marry Rex, but her heart belongs to Nick. Rex confides that he's built a life in the present — and even fallen for another woman. Ella admits she kind of wants to stay, too.Nick tells her she has to return — it's her story, her legacy. She pleads, “Why can't we be together?!” They share a kiss, but Nick pulls away. “We can't do this,” he says.It's the night of the big Christmas ball. Ella and Nick dance and confess their feelings. Then, right as Rex walks in with his fiancée, the Christmas tree begins to disappear — reality is collapsing. They rush to the boat. Nick gives Ella an ornament to remember him by, and they share one last hug and a soft forehead kiss before she sets sail.As she spots the comet streaking across the sky, Ella cries, “Why did you let me fall in love — but please, take me home!”It works. She's back in 1905. She bursts into the Christmas ball and tells her father she refuses to marry the man he chose. He insists, “But he's come all this way!” When Rex is introduced… it's Nick.Back in 2025, her portrait has returned. Nick explains in voiceover that as Ella was sailing off, he realized if Rex wasn't going to go back, he could. Knowing Rex had no family, he took his place — no questions asked.They kiss, and above them, the Christmas Comet twinkles once more. In the meantime, it's time for the… QUEST & CHORUS of ALIGNMENTS OF CARNAC Over 3,000 standing stones stretch in careful lines through the fields of Carnac. No one knows exactly why they're here. Were they a celestial map? Some say they mark burial grounds. But walking by them, I didn't feel like I was in a graveyard. I felt like I was among the elders. It reminded me of Fangorn Forest, home of the Ents. In The Lord of the Rings, Fangorn is a place where time moves slowly. Trees remember battles that men have forgotten. Carnac is a lot like that. The stones are not dead. They're just waiting. I can't help but wonder who placed them here, so careful and deliberate. The stones of Carnac weren't raised by elves or Ents, but by real people. Neolithic builders, thousands of years before written history. Here's what we know about them. HISTORY OF THE ALIGNMENTS OF CARNAC The Alignments of Carnac in Brittany, France, are one of the most remarkable prehistoric monuments in Europe. They consist of long rows of standing stones (menhirs) and other megalithic features that stretch across the landscape. Archaeological studies show that many of the stones date from between about 4,800 and 3,500 BC — some recent research suggests parts were erected as early as 4,600 BC. The site is not a single line but a complex of alignments: four major groups (for example, Ménec, Kermario, Kerlescan, Petit Ménec) that lie in the commune of Carnac and its surroundings. Originally, these stones were erected by Neolithic peoples who lived in what we now call Brittany. Their purpose remains a subject of debate: some propose they were ritual or ceremonial, others suggest funerary meaning, or perhaps linked to astronomical patterns or seasonal calendars. Over the millennia, many stones were removed, toppled, or reused in local buildings, especially in historic times. The word "alignments" refers to the visible rows of standing stones that still remain. Today, the Alignments of Carnac are protected as important heritage sites. Research continues to refine their dating and function, and the monuments remain a remarkable testimony to the ambition and organisation of prehistoric communities. One of the most widely told involves Saint Cornély. According to Breton tradition, Cornély was being pursued by soldiers. He and his oxen fled, and the stones of Carnac are said to be the soldiers turned to stone as a result of divine intervention. Another version says the stones were dancing at midnight on Christmas Eve, and people who saw them would be crushed beneath as the stones marched to the sea. While these legends don't claim to explain the actual Neolithic origins of the stones, they illustrate how later generations understood and imagined the dramatic rows of stones in their landscape. For that matter, it's also the final episode of Folk Songs & Stories, at least by those names. I ran a poll on Patreon to see what name people liked the most. The most popular name was Pub Songs & Stories. So we're moving back to that name. That said, Quest & Chorus is not gone forever. This is just the beginning. I really liked this special feature and so in some episodes in the future, I hope to include a quest and chorus for you. I also realized that the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast, my award-winning flagship program, is a great show. But over the past decade, the podcast has become more and more dominated by instrumental Celtic music. Which is fantastic. I love a great set of tunes as much as the songs. But I feel like the singers and the songwriters lost out a bit. I started playing music because I wanted to be a songwriter. I love all styles of music. I love learning how to write songs. Writing Celtic and folk songs are one of the reasons I continue to create music. So another thing I will be doing with a section of the podcast is to continue to promote the singers, songs, and songwriters that I find whether on the Irish & Celtic Music Podcast or wherever. A great example is the interview that I'm sharing next time on the podcast. I interviewed Mikey Mason about his songwriting techniques. The things that inspire him to write a new song and share it each and every week for several years now. It's not easy to make the top dozen in CMT's “100 Greatest Love Songs,” but that is precisely the placement that the music network awarded to Keith Whitley's recording of “When You Say Nothing At All.”The song has a beloved place in our hearts. We remember the Christmas Eve in 1988 when that lovely number hit No. 1 in Billboard's Hot Country Singles.And for many of us, that is the sweet tune that first came to mind just five months later in a much sadder moment: when we heard the shocking news that 34-year-old Whitley had died at his Goodlettsville, TN, home.One of UsThe news hit especially hard in our area. Keith Whitley was a local hero. Born in Ashland, he grew up in the nearby Sandy Hook, Ky.It seemed like every one of that town's thousand residents knew Keith, but conversation was almost non-existent on the day of his passing. Words lost out to stunned silence.Today his memory is permanently etched into the landscape. A street is named “Keith Whitley Boulevard.” A memorial statue stands near the Elliot County Veterans Memorial and Cemetery. We hadn't played it in six months or more, and then one sultry night last August, it strolled back into the band room like it had never left. Danny Cox kicked off those familiar first chords. Kerri Steele's husband Will ran 13 miles each day, went home to help get his young children ready for the day afterwards, and then put in a full day of work. Needless to say, it was a total shock to Kerri and Will when he was diagnosed with a rare form of  cancer that was determined to be terminal upon his diagnosis in February of 2010, and which led to his passing on Christmas Eve of 2012. Kerri will talk about Will, and about the difficult years ahead for her and their children who were 2,4, and 6 when their father got sick.

What if Christmas wasn't about doing more, but being more present?The Pressure of Holiday PerfectionYou know, I used to try to make everything, well, back in the day, magazine perfect. Y'all are dealing with making everything Pinterest perfect, or Instagram perfect. I used to get a magazine, Southern Living. Actually, I got a whole two rows of them, old copies, and Southern Living had always, around November, December, they'd have an article about decorating the tree, and having the perfect little snacks, and everything was just perfect.Only, anytime I tried that, it didn't work. So, I sort of gave up on it. Some of you may be thinking about, oh, I gotta get the perfect matching pajamas, or just the flawless photos, elaborate crafts. But by Christmas Eve, for myself, and especially Christmas Day after we'd opened gifts, I was exhausted and snappy, and as I've told you before, crying in the car on the freeway.I realized after a couple years like that, that Jesus never asked for perfection. He asked for presence. He just wants our presence with Him.Letting Go of the Comparison TrapHow can we let go of that perfection? And you may not be a perfectionist. But you may still be scrolling social media going, oh, I wish I had… oh, look at them, look at that.That is such a false hope. They are showing you their highlight reels. They are not giving you an accurate picture of what life is like. Because we scroll through Pinterest, Facebook, Instagram, and we feel behind already. We want our kids to have magical memories, but we forget that we set the tone as well.You see, when we do that, when we are constantly comparing ourselves to other people, we feel guilty. We feel overwhelmed. We feel stressed. And there's one more. Oh, we miss the joy of the season! You know, the season's supposed to be joyful and joy to the world. It is not happening.Your kids are not going to remember the perfect decorations, or the perfect decorating, tree decorating evening. They're going to remember the times as a family. They're gonna remember your peace and your presence with them. We don't need to be doing more, we just need to be present with our family.From Chaos to ConnectionSo how can we go from chaos to connection? Letting go of perfection actually opens the door for true connection.Think about it. What if on Christmas morning, y'all just had a great morning? If you open gifts in, that's great, but you're calm, your kids are happy, the home is at peace. Wouldn't that be awesome?But it doesn't just happen like this. We need to be intentional about it, and that is why I want to talk to you about that. We can use that time of Advent. Advent starts about 4 weeks before Christmas, and every week we can be doing different activities that can prepare our heart.Sometimes it's a heart surgery. We need to look at ourselves and see what do we need to do before God? Are there some sins that we need to confess? And we need to model that, and then show our kids as well. And then the different activities need to be purposeful and intentional.The Three Keys: Faith, Family, and FreedomThe key here is making a shift to faith, family, and freedom.Faith. Putting Christ back at the center. Back at the center of your celebration.Family, focusing on meaningful moments together, not the perfect photo.And then freedom, releasing the pressure to do everything perfect. And just have joy instead!You see, we need to spend that time personally, in faith, with our Lord and Savior, spending time, preparing our hearts for that celebration, and then we need to spend time as a family. That will draw the connections first. You've got up and down connection with God, then we have horizontal connection with our family. And when we build those connections, I think we grow into some freedom, that we don't have to do everything perfect.Practical Ways to Be More PresentSo, what are some practical ways? I would encourage you to pick one or two meaningful traditions that you might do year after year.For our family, I think my kids will all tell you their favorite Christmas tradition was baking pumpkin bread and cookies to sell. They took the profit, and they bought a gift for one missionary family. Every year, we picked a different missionary family. And to this day, they've all said something about that. It's one of their favorite traditions.We did that every year, and they would sell the baked goods, and then we would go to the store and buy it with whatever profit they had, because they had to pay me back for all the ingredients and that type of thing.So, pick one or two traditions. Say no to the activities that drain your family, that drain your spirit, your husband's spirit, your kid's spirit. Focus on time together, not just checking off the boxes. I did that for several years and realized that was not helping our family.I think it's really important that we use that time before Christmas, not as a to-do list with a checklist, but to prepare your heart, prepare your heart for that celebration.The Christmas Celebration BundleNow, it would be nice to have something that's sort of all set out for you, and that's why I did pull together our Christmas Celebration Bundle. And then we've got Christmas Carol Book, your kids can learn biblical Christmas songs, they can copy it, there's all sorts of things, but that will tie together your faith, your family, and then hopefully give you some freedom, because it's sort of all set out for you. Happy Fuck Yeah Friday, where we get some inspiration, we have a little bit of fun, we celebrate your wins and mine, and we leave with a little affirmation or mantra or just something to kick our weekend off. Thank you so much for being here. If you're new to the Be It Till You See It Podcast, we do interviews on Tuesday, recaps on Thursday, and this is my time to share a win of yours. I want more wins from you. Lesley Logan 1:15  So something that inspired me, or like sometimes I feel like it can be educational. So they erased the 13th month because it was ruled by women. So this is from Stella Porta on Instagram. And this is interesting because I definitely had done some research and learned how, like, we got the Roman calendar, which is, like, makes no sense, and we have winter starting the new year off in the middle of winter, which makes zero sense. We should start the middle. We should start the year off at Spring, right? I just think so. But okay, here we go. Before the church ruled time, women followed a different calendar, one based not on the sun, but on the moon. It had 13 months of 28 days, mirroring the menstrual cycle. This wasn't just myth. It was math, 13 times 28 equals 364. Plus one holy day equals 365, Brad just walked in and I just blew his mind. So by the way, the Instagram has sources. So if you're like, this is baloney. No, it's not. There's like little sources. This lunar calendar shaped everything. It had four sacred weeks per month, New Waxing, Full and Waning. Sabbaths were tied to moon phases and a full year, called a year and a day, a phrase still found in spells and folklore. I have seen that in some stuff, and I was like, whoa, that's interesting. So a year and a day, right? Cultures around the world honored it. Maya, Maya women said that their calendar came from menstruation. Chinese women divided the sky into 28 lunar mansions, and in Gaelic words for menstruation and calendar are the same, miosach and miosachan. I don't know, M-I-O-S-A-C-H and M-I-O-S-A-C-H-A-N. So there you go. The Romans used the word menstruation for measuring time. It comes from mensura, measure, from the same root, we get mensis, month and the word menses, the monthly cycle. So one is mensis, maybe, and menses. A woman's body was the first clock, mind blown. But this body-based time was slowly erased. The church replaced the 13-moon year with a 12-month solar one. They called 13 unlucky, moon rites became witchcraft, even menstruation became taboo. Still the signs survived. Witch covens honor the number 13, The 13 Treasures of Britain. Sow with 13 teats in Malta's temples, Twelfth Night fires, 12 small flames, plus one large one to represent the 13th moon of the new year. So lots of little people, just like keeping that history around. I love it, generations, hundreds of years later, right? The church flipped time inside out. Pagans began their days at sunset. The Saxon word for day actually meant night. Good night was once good den or good moonday. Christianity didn't release the goddess calendar. It was rebranded. Christmas Eve equals the pagan night of the mother. Easter equals set by the first full moon after the spring equinox. May Eve, Midsummer Eve, Llamas Eve, All Hallow's Eve, all began as a lunar right. This is interesting. This source that's here I started on another podcast. Pretty much every amazing holiday used to be a pagan holiday, and then the church just rebranded it. So anyways, always good to know where these things came from because I just think you should know. I think you should know what things really are. Alright. They tried to rewrite time, to flatten her curves into straight lines, but the moon cycles never left. They pulse in the mirror of stories and the tides of women in the hush between full moons. And now she's being remembered, not as superstition, but as origin. So hopefully I can get this girl who posted this on the pod. I really. She was cool. And I thought this information is cool. And ladies, we need to know. Right? Time was actually all about us. And I just think that's amazing. Lesley Logan 5:08  So okay, a win of yours. Lisa MacDonald, had a summer cancelation hole on my schedule, but turned what could be considered a negative to a positive, and did Boom Boom Pow! with Lesley on the Reformer, finished with my boomerang on the mat, stood up and said awesome out loud, it felt great. Such a win. Coming off my duet session with Lesley and Melissa Hargrove last night, I felt strong, connected and fabulous. Thank you, Lesley, for inspiring me to look for a win and celebrate. Lisa MacDonald, of course, of course. Lisa is an OPC member. She's done my mentorship program, and so the Boom Boom Pow! was one of the OPC classes. And at OPC, we have a name for every class you have access to it for two weeks. And it's really fun when you get, if you're a teacher, you get a cancelation and you take class because then you get to have extra time with your Pilates practice, which I love. Lesley Logan 5:57  Okay, my win didn't get celebrated last week. We were out of town, and I wanted to make sure I told you, Brad and I celebrated 10 years of being married last week, which is insanity. It's so crazy. I don't know if you maybe this is maybe I'm not the only one, but please let me know if you feel like you are. Like, hold on, how long I've been with this person, or how long I've been doing any anniversary, right? Like, how long have I been doing this? Like it felt like we just got married, and actually, obviously we haven't, but, like, doesn't feel like it's been 10 years, which I guess is great, but then I look back and I'm like, wow, we have done so much in 10 years, like, an insane amount in 10 years. And it's really cool, because this is, like, the first time we have so much more to go and so much more to grow, but just really grateful that we got to celebrate that together, because sometimes our anniversaries line up where we are on a plane and we're together, but like, one of us probably sleeping, and also several times it's happened where we've, like, taken off on a flight on the second, we've landed on the fourth, because we lost today. So it's really nice that we were around together in the daylight hours, not on a plane, able to actually celebrate our 10 year anniversary, which is really, really great. So normally, the wins are something that you want to celebrate. Sometimes they're big, like a 10 year, you know, I'll celebrate 11 as well, but I think it's important that, you know, we celebrate wins, big or small. In the coming months, we're going to have a Habits Series on the program, and one of the biggest things you can start doing to big habits happen is start to notice the things that you actually are getting done, the wins that are actually happening in your life. All right, there's little ones every single day, and we are just not taking enough time to celebrate what we did do. And you know what? Maybe you've got a lot going on in your life, and the only thing to celebrate is that you took a shower and you put on a different change of clothes. That's a huge win. If that was the hardest thing you could do in the day. You know, like, I think you I think we have to start giving ourselves credit for what we have done. And I really, I interviewed someone to be on the pod, and I really like what they're saying. There's so many people who are doing outward actions to get outward affirmation, versus looking and glowing from within, and you can only do that if you're actually recognizing that you're doing really great stuff based in grace, babe. Lesley Logan 8:13  All right, your mantra. Then she goes back in and sings a song that—honestly—makes it sound like she's in love with her grandpa. I don't know.There's a knock at the door. She grabs her gun and finds a wounded Yankee outside. Even though helping him could get her in trouble, she brings him in and stitches him up. He falls asleep, wakes up, and hears her sing O Holy Night—after which he just casually mumbles that he loves her.They eat and sing Up on the Housetop together, which somehow inspires her to decorate for Christmas. There's something off about this guy, but I can't quite place it. Then he recites A Visit from St. Nicholas and asks her to sing again, so they do The First Noel.That's when he breaks the news: her grandpa isn't coming home. He says they spent hours together by a fire, had a heart-to-heart, grandpa wrote a poem to God…and then died. To cope, she sings Silent Night. Naturally.They have a quick “nuanced” conversation about slavery and then immediately slide into What Child Is This. She says goodnight, and that's when he drops the bomb: he actually killed her grandpa after grandpa shot him in the back. Oh, and by the way, they knew each other as kids and were first loves. He gives her another letter from grandpa, and they cap it all off by singing a slow version of Jingle Bells.He proposes, she says yes, and they celebrate on the porch. Then—plot twist—it turns out they're in one of Krampus' snow globes, and suddenly everything makes sense.
