Healthcare providers and patients often feel frustrated, burned out, and powerless... but what if they're not actually fighting each other? In this episode, I sit down with returning guest Jordan Grumet, MD, hospice physician, author, and host of the Earn & Invest podcast, to discuss his new book, The Healthcare Heist. Jordan argues that many of the challenges facing healthcare today aren't caused by clinicians or patients, but by third-party entities whose incentives often conflict with both. We discuss the "culpability myth" that has led clinicians to become scapegoats for systemic problems, the rise of insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, private equity, and electronic medical records, and how these forces have contributed to what Jordan calls the "intimacy gap" between providers and patients as well as rising healthcare costs. Most importantly, we explore how clinicians and patients can work together to rebuild trust, strengthen relationships, and advocate for meaningful change. In this episode, you'll learn:• What the culpability myth is and how it impacts healthcare providers• How third-party interests influence patient care• Why healthcare costs continue to rise• The unintended consequences of electronic medical records• What the intimacy gap is and why it matters• How shared storytelling can help clinicians and patients become allies again• Why financial independence and career optionality may give clinicians more freedom to advocate for change Whether you're a physician associate, physician, nurse practitioner, nurse, therapist, other healthcare team member, or patient, this conversation will challenge the way you think about healthcare and who is really responsible for the problems facing the system today. ABOUT THE EPISODE:Are Islam and Christianity separated brothers, mortal enemies, or something in between? What if the setback you're running from is actually the clearest signal your purpose has ever sent you? In this episode of That Will Nevr Work, Maurice sits down with Leo Young — Managing Partner of Cornell Communities, former Tesla #1 regional salesperson, and one of the most compelling transformation stories in real estate today. With nearly a decade of experience, over $50 million in total transaction volume, and a career arc that took him from elite corporate performer to private equity to founding his own investment firm, Leo's journey is a masterclass in what happens when you trade external success for internal alignment. Leo didn't just pivot careers. He fundamentally rewrote his relationship with money, leadership, and purpose — and built a company whose mission is to create both affordable housing solutions and strong passive returns for investors, proving that doing good and doing well aren't opposites. In this conversation, you'll hear:The real story behind leaving Tesla's top sales role to bet on himselfWhat a $4.5B private equity acquisition team teaches you about wealth you can't learn anywhere elseWhy mobile home parks are one of the most overlooked, recession-resilient assets in America — and a metaphor for every undervalued idea you're sitting onHow to raise capital by leading with trust, character, and radical transparencyThe specific clarity that only comes from walking through — not around — your hardest season This one is for every entrepreneur who is in the middle of their setback, wondering if they took a wrong turn — and needs to hear from someone who went through the fire and found their purpose on the other side.

Tomorrow a by-election will be held in the parliamentary seat of Makerfield in Wigan, one of three taking place. Makerfield has found itself at the epicentre of British politics - and the result could decide the next prime minister. We look at what the polls are saying about the way women in the area are saying they will vote and what is impacting that decision. Nuala McGovern is joined by BBC's political correspondent Alex Forsyth. Scotland are one of the home nations, alongside England and Ireland, hosting the Women's T20 Cricket World Cup currently taking place here. The Scots got their campaign underway last Saturday against Ireland with an historic win. Nuala is joined by the CEO of Cricket Scotland, Trudy Lindblade and by one of their team, all-rounder, Priyanaz Chatterji to talk about the growth of the women's game in Scotland and what this tournament means for the future of the game. Peptides have become a new buzzword in the wellness industry. Social media influencers have spoken about using them for optimising performance in the gym and improving their appearance, and they're increasingly popular with women. But some unregulated peptides haven't been through clinical trials and could be ineffective, or even harmful. Nuala is joined by BBC Health reporter Ruth Clegg, who has been looking into the way women are using peptides, and Adam Taylor, Professor of Anatomy at the University of Lancaster. We live in a culture where it seems that the generations are at war with one another, families are falling apart – some going no contact, and children are increasingly without skills, purpose, and hope. Perhaps this is because we’ve lost sight of the benefits that intergenerational relationships bring. What children need to learn and experience is not what the internet offers. They need the slow, offline activities that grandparents can teach. They need to be reminded of their roots and to receive a heritage of faith, traditions, memories, virtue, and skills. In today’s podcast, Kelly argues for the essential role grandparents play in children’s lives. Both parents and grandparents listening will receive encouragement and practical steps to restore relationships, establish screen-free relational time between grandparents and grandchildren, persevere with kids who may resist slow, character-building activities, and understand why this is part of God’s design for the family. What if charging less for your best work is exactly what's been keeping you broke? In this episode of That Will Nevr Work, Maurice sits down with Joel Miller — co-founder of The Sky Floor, leap-day identical twin, and one of the most quietly contrarian voices in the digital agency world. Joel and his twin brother Alan have grown their two-person agency 15%+ every single year since 2008, hitting $500K+ in revenue without hiring a single junior team member, taking outside funding, or following the scale-fast playbook everyone else was running. What they did instead? They charged for outcomes, not hours. They chose partnerships over projects. And they said no to the clients, deals, and growth tactics that would have made them bigger but not better. In this conversation, Joel breaks down:Why hourly billing punishes your best work — and how to escape the trapThe philosophy of staying small on purpose and why restraint is a strategyHow "outcomes over deliverables" completely changes what you're sellingThe leap-day twin origin story and what building with a lifelong partner really takesWhy strategy before execution isn't just a tagline — it's the difference between expensive wallpaper and a digital asset that actually works This one is for every creative, freelancer, and service-based entrepreneur who knows they're worth more than their hourly rate will ever show.

Us with Dr. Crystallee Crain - Critical Conversations On The Challenges Of Our Time
What does it take to turn a prison conversation into a life's mission? In this episode, Dr. Crystallee Crain sits down with Geremy Johnson — justice-informed strategist, peer-led innovator, and Founder of Turning 365, Inc. — for a conversation that is equal parts reckoning and revelation.Geremy doesn't come with talking points. He comes with truth. Born in New York City, rooted in Virginia, and shaped by over two decades of lived experience and long-term recovery, Geremy has spent his life building what others said couldn't be built: real pathways for people the system was designed to forget. In this conversation, he takes us back to the beginning — not the programs, not the frameworks, but the moment inside a prison where he realized his story had the power to help someone else survive. He gets honest about what re-entry actually felt like in those early years, what almost pulled him back, and how he made the quiet, grueling shift from surviving to leading. He talks about what he says — not from the curriculum, but from the soul — when he's sitting across from someone who just came home and isn't sure they believe change is real for them. And he closes with the words he wishes someone had said to him.Whether you're in the work, just getting out, or still trying to believe that a different life is possible — this episode is for you.Topics explored: Life before recovery and the moment everything shifted — the early, unvarnished reality of re-entry — navigating credibility without erasing your story — the Foundations of Recovery and the P.E.E.R. Workbook — what peer leadership looks like when it's grounded in honesty — and a direct message to anyone still fighting to believe transformation belongs to them too.Learn more: www.turning365.com
AI tools can perform incredible feats of computation. They can also displace human relationships, outsource learning, distort reality, and pretend to have wisdom. Christian families have a responsibility not to conform to the patterns of this world (Rom 12:2) but to test everything, hold on to what is good, and reject what is evil (1 Thes. 5:21). In this episode, Kelly provides a four-pillar biblical framework for evaluating AI tools and whether they are appropriate or beneficial for children. The four pillars are (1) Imago Dei, (2) Attributes of God, (3) Truth, and (4) Formation. Each pillar offers a preventative or protective measure and a practical application question parents can use to disciple children in the age of AI. What if the busyness you've been wearing as a badge of honor is actually the most expensive and most well-defended excuse you've been making for not doing the strategic leadership work your business most urgently needs? In this episode of That Will Nevr Work, host Maurice sits down with Liz Weber, CMC, CSP — one of fewer than 100 people in the United States to hold both the Certified Speaking Professional® and Certified Management Consultant® designations, founder and President of Weber Business Services, LLC, author of 10 leadership books, named a Top 30 Global Guru on Leadership and Global Top 100 Leadership Influencer, faculty at Johns Hopkins and Georgetown, and a consultant who has worked with organizations across more than 20 countries — for one of the most direct, credentialed, and immediately actionable conversations about leadership, busyness, and strategic clarity we have ever had on this show. ABOUT THE EPISODEIf you want to understand Muslims and how to best share the gospel in light of their worldview, this is for you.SponsorThis month, we're talking about how Christians engage with Islam, a conversation Southern Seminary has taken seriously for a long time. As President Al Mohler has put it, you can't prepare a minister for today's world without reckoning with Islam. That conviction is why Southern now offers a PhD in Islamic Studies, and why it's home to the Jenkins Center, a team devoted to helping pastors, missionaries, and everyday believers reach their Muslim neighbors with the gospel. In this episode, I'm talking about one of the biggest myths in eating disorder recovery: the belief that your body image will improve once your body changes. So many people believe that losing weight, changing their shape, eating less, exercising more, or achieving a certain look will finally make them feel confident and comfortable in themselves. The reality is that eating disorders often make body image worse, not better.I explore why body image struggles persist regardless of body size, how eating disorders distort the way we see ourselves, and why chasing the "perfect" body never creates lasting peace. I also share practical strategies for coping with bad body image days, reducing body checking, challenging appearance-focused thinking, and building self-worth beyond how you look.If you're tired of waiting to feel good enough, this episode will help you understand why recovery isn't about fixing your body. It's about healing your relationship with it. Let me know your thoughts! The Enhanced Games took place over Memorial Day weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada. The founders boasted they were making history and redefining what the human body is capable of. What was the evidence for this? Performance-enhancing drugs and bio-hacking in the name of becoming ‘superhuman.’ In this briefing, Kelly explains why stories like this matter and are valuable opportunities to talk to kids about what it means to be human. Kids are bombarded with messages to ‘enhance themselves’ with everything from skin care rituals to looksmaxxing. It is critical for parents to start this conversation. What if the reason you keep running out of fuel — running out of clarity, running out of resilience, running out of confidence exactly when you need it most — isn't that you're not working hard enough, but that you've been running the wrong system for the human being doing the work? In this episode of That Will Nevr Work, host Maurice sits down with Rob Tracz — high-performance coach, keynote speaker, entrepreneur, Master of Science in Exercise Science, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist with Distinction, Precision Nutrition Level 2 Coach, and founder and CEO of TAPS Coaching — for one of the most scientifically grounded and personally moving conversations about human performance, confidence under pressure, and the entrepreneurial operating system we have ever recorded. Rob's own story took him from chasing success while silently unraveling, to sleeping on a yoga mat in a gym, to receiving his dying father's final words — "Take care of yourself. Don't work so hard. Be good for your sister" — and building those words into a coaching philosophy that has transformed hundreds of driven professionals out of Robot Mode and into their Prime Performance. In this episode, you'll discover:What Robot Mode is, how to know if you're in it, and the specific reason driven people are the most vulnerable to itThe real story behind Rob's rock bottom — and the moment his father's final words finally changed everythingWhy Look Good, Feel Good, Do Great Things is a performance strategy, not a wellness sloganThe Confidence Equation — what confidence actually is at a scientific level and how to build it as a system, not a feeling If you have been grinding, hustling, and achieving — while quietly running on empty — this episode is the performance intervention your business has been waiting for.

When it comes to a kid having their own smartphone, trust is a much more complex issue than Peter Gray alludes to. Allowing a smartphone requires a parent to trust the child, their own parenting, Big Tech, the attention economy, and the whole of sinful mankind with access to the internet. In today’s episode – Part 10 of 10 – Kelly counters the benefit of “being trusted” as a benefit to smartphone ownership. In reality, trust can be given and earned in many ways that do not involve persuasive and personalized design features. Scripture gives so much wisdom on how and who we are to trust. What if the reason you keep hitting the same ceiling — regardless of how hard you work, how smart your strategy is, or how badly you want to break through — is that you have been running a program that was specifically designed to make sure you never actually do? In this episode of That Will Nevr Work, host Maurice sits down with Randy Gage — Hall of Fame speaker, New York Times bestselling author of 16 books translated into 25+ languages, founder of Prosperity Factory, Inc., host of the Power Prosperity Podcast, and creator of Breakthrough U — for one of the most intellectually confrontational, personally challenging, and genuinely transformational conversations we have ever had on this show. Randy's motivational story of rising from a jail cell as a teen to a self-made multi-millionaire has inspired millions around the world — and what he discovered on that journey is the single most important and most consistently ignored truth in the entrepreneurial world: the biggest obstacle between you and the life you want is the programming you didn't choose and have never examined. In this episode, you'll discover:What "mind viruses" are, where they come from, and why the most successful-looking people are often carrying the most dangerous onesThe specific difference between running the poverty OS and the prosperity OS — and why you've never been told you have a choiceRandy's journey from addiction, incarceration, and repeated failures to becoming a global thought leader on prosperity — and the real, unpolished story of what the rewrite actually tooWhat Wealth Without Apology means — and what it costs to keep apologizing for wanting to be wealthyWhy employee thinking is the most dangerous mindset a founder can carry — and how to permanently replace itWhy holistic prosperity across health, relationships, and mental harmony is a business strategy, not just a wellness aspirationWhat Breakthrough U is, who it's for, and why the most successful entrepreneurs on the planet still need it If you have been working hard, thinking big, and still finding yourself in the same place — this episode is the conversation that explains exactly why. And exactly how to change it.

What if the most dangerous thing you're doing as a founder isn't a bad strategy, a poor hire, or a cash flow problem — but the performance of strength that's slowly isolating you from the truth your business and your life most urgently need you to face? In this episode of That Will Nevr Work, host Maurice sits down with Chris Shurian — entrepreneur, cancer survivor, Ironman finisher, Small Business Operations Coach, and host of Bootstraps & Battle Scars — for one of the most raw, real, and genuinely necessary conversations we've ever had on this show. Chris has been knocked down hard — financially, physically, and spiritually — and stood back up every single time. His story isn't about avoiding failure. It's about surviving it. And after nearly four decades of building businesses, beating cancer, crossing Ironman finish lines, and sitting in the honest founder conversations that most people never get to have, Chris is on a mission to create the safe spaces where founders can finally drop the armor and tell the truth. In this episode, you'll discover:What the founder's armor is actually made of — and why the entrepreneurial identity makes vulnerability feel like a threatWhy the most dangerous conversation a founder avoids is often the one with themselvesWhat surviving cancer and completing Ironman races taught Chris about the way founders treat their bodies and their mental healthFour decades of entrepreneurial lessons about economic storms, rebuilding, and the long game of resilienceThe small business operations mistake that founder isolation and armor-wearing almost always createThe three things any founder can start doing tomorrow: service, positivity as a decision, and the courage to be honest about what's actually hardWhy the founder who can tell the truth is almost always the most effective leader in any room If you have been performing strength while quietly carrying something that deserves a real conversation — this episode is the safe space you've been looking for.
Recent Barna research revealed that teens spend an average of 4.8 hours a day on social media. In this time, are they learning critical digital skills essential for success in life? When kids play games on iPads or watch YouTube videos, are they learning essential skills? In today’s episode, Kelly continues the examination of Peter’s Gray list of benefits for kids’ smartphone ownership: Developing Digital Skills. What exactly are digital skills? Are they learned by swiping, tapping, and watching? And most importantly, what is God’s purpose for childhood – is it to master skills or to grow in wisdom and faith? From a pragmatic standpoint, this benefit seems legit. From a biblical standpoint, digital skills look a whole lot like digital devotion. In this episode of Recover to Flourish, I'm talking about an eating disorder behaviour that is rarely spoken about openly: chewing and spitting. This is something that can bring a huge amount of shame, secrecy, and isolation, yet so many people struggle with it behind closed doors.I explore what chewing and spitting actually is, why it can become so addictive and compulsive, the physical and psychological impact it can have, and why it often keeps people stuck in the eating disorder cycle. Summer is an amazing time of rest and refreshing. Because screen time is a central part of so many students’ lives, this detail often feels most important. But beyond screen time, we want to encourage parents to take a different approach and ask the question: “What kind of character will be formed in my child this summer?” Discipleship is teaching and reinforcing Christ-like Character in every aspect of life – and that doesn’t get a summer vacation. We all know that friendship and connection to peers are a critical part of what it means to be human, especially during childhood. The question parents must contend with is what kind of peer connection do children need, and how does that connection shape a child’s character, faith, and worldview? Because we all know the smartphone is the most convenient tool for this connection, but at what cost and with what risk? In Part 9 of our series evaluating the proposed benefits of smartphones for kids, as described by Dr. Peter Gray on his Substack, “Play Makes Us Human,” Kelly challenges the claim that adults have ruined childhood in the physical world and that children have wisely recreated it in the virtual world. “Behind every heroic firefighter, there is a man that has many, many different lives that we should be honoring also.” – Eileen Bellew, FDNY widowWe welcome Eileen Bellew, author of After John Jumped, for a deeply moving conversation about surviving profound loss, mothering through grief, and finding hope after tragedy. Eileen recounts the heartbreaking events of January 23, 2005, known as Black Sunday, when her husband John, a dedicated FDNY firefighter, lost his life in the line of duty. She shares the agonizing hours of uncertainty, the moment she said goodbye, and the challenges of facing unimaginable PTSD with four young children.Navigating grief in the public eye, Eileen describes trying to protect her children's innocence amidst intense media scrutiny, endless ceremonies, and the ongoing pain of public memorials. She discusses the multi-layered aspects of widowhood—how it altered her very identity, changed her approach to motherhood, and left her grappling with PTSD, anxiety, and the daunting question: “How do I rebuild?”Key takeaways from this episode:There is no right way to handle tragedy or grief—every decision is raw and personal.Support often means simply sitting in the muck with someone, rather than trying to “fix” their pain. The loss of a spouse can mean losing parts of yourself, but over time healing and resilience do grow—even if it takes years.Remarriage is not a replacement but a new chapter. You can love again while holding your lost loved one close.Eileen's journey is also chronicled in her memoir, which began as a legacy for her kids and grew into a beacon for others facing similar paths.Learn more about Eileen Bellew, her book, After John Jumped, and the upcoming Black Sunday movie at eileenbellew.com.Get the "Who Am I Now?"
