I'm talking about the good kind—the kind that fuels your happiness and helps you chase your dreams like a puppy on a leash! Host Heather Masters is here to help you flip the script on mediocrity and embrace the fire that comes from being truly obsessed with what you love. Inspired by Grant Cardone's book, "Be Obsessed or Be Average," we're diving into how choosing obsession can be the key to unlocking a life filled with joy, purpose, and passion.Throughout the podcast episode, Heather opens up about her own journey and the struggles she's faced in committing to her happiness. She shares how, in a world that often encourages us to play it safe, we need to shake things up and get a little *extra* with our goals. If you've ever felt stuck or comfortable in a box of your own making, this episode is for you! We'll explore how to cultivate an obsession with the things that light you up and why that's not only okay but necessary for a fulfilling life. As we journey through the episode, we tackle three key ideas that will help you break free from the chains of average and step into your greatness. First up is owning your purpose with absolute obsession. We'll discuss how knowing your *why* can transform your daily life and give you the energy to wake up excited every day. Next, we'll dive into the importance of rejecting mediocrity and raising your standards. After all, why settle for “just okay” when you can aim for extraordinary? And finally, we'll emphasise the power of taking massive action—because dreams don't work unless you do! So, are you ready to embrace your obsession and live your best life? Let's do this!Takeaways: Choosing to be obsessed with your life means taking relentless action towards your happiness. Obsession isn't about one thing; it's about being all in for what truly fuels your passion. Happiness is a by-product of aligning your daily actions with your deepest desires and potential. Average is the real danger in life; embrace your drive and refuse to settle for mediocrity. Setting intimidating goals can push you to grow; don't fear the big dreams, chase them! Taking small actions consistently can lead to massive changes in your happiness and fulfilment. Welcome to Episode 23 of the Scaling to Business Success Podcast! This week's podcast episode is about why it's important for you to create more joy in your life, especially since 2024 is right around the corner. Let's dive in! One thing about me and my life is that I'm always going to work on creating more joy. Joy is a great thing to have, and it's one thing that I will never compromise when it comes to my life. Being a business coach can have its advantages and disadvantages, but it's an amazing feeling when you learn how to create joy in your life. When you do, you feel excited about life and things to come, you're happier and you start to look at things differently. I want you to experience that, and the best time to do that is now, not when the new year starts. In this episode, I want to share with you the things that I plan to do more of in 2024 so that I can have more happiness around me every single day. I want you to experience this as well, and it can all start today by listening to this episode. Let's get into it! In this episode you'll hear: Why I'm Letting Go Of What Happened In The Past - If there's one thing that I have learned over the years is that some people never want to see you succeed in life, and they always want to bring up the negative things about what you've done. I used to have someone in my life do this to me all the time, and I had to stand up to myself and let them know that I don't dwell on the past and that I'm always focused on my future. In the book Be Obsessed or Be Average by Grant Cardone, he speaks about being completely focused on your future and being obsessed with it. To help me be obsessed and focused on the future of my life and my business is that I write down all of the goals I want to achieve twice a day. This helps me to continue focusing on what I want to achieve instead of dwelling in the past about what happened and/or what I didn't achieve in my life. How I'm Surrounding Myself Around More Positive People - I've learned during my years of being a business coach that you want and need to surround yourself around positive people. In my workplace, I try to stay away from negative talk with my coworkers because I don't want to keep that negative energy around me all day for 8 hours while I'm there. So instead of participating in the conversation, I'll put in my airpods and listen to an inspiring podcast or an audiobook. Take time to pay attention to what kind of things you're participating in and how it affects your outlook on having more joy in your life. How I'm Learning To Be Present - I'm also learning that it's important to be present with family and friends. We're so used to having our cell phones and being glued to them all the time, and it takes away from being in the moment with those people that we love. I'm learning how to take a step back from social media and being glued to my phone and enjoying every moment. This could be from going out to dinner with my husband and putting my phone away to enjoy time with him, or turning off the social media notifications of all my apps (except my IG messages because that's how I grow my business) and only checking my apps three times a day. It takes time to get used to it, but it's definitely worth doing. Why I Tell Myself "I'm Happy" Every Single Day - In order for me to be happy, I have to tell myself that I am happy. It's just like saying that you're beautiful, and when you say it enough times throughout the day, you'll start to believe it. Telling myself that "I'm happy" is something that I know will help me be happier with my life and happy with the future that I'm creating. This is something that you could start doing! Being More Optimistic and Focusing On The Good In My Life - Being negative or pessimistic is something that can hinder your success with your business and in your life. Even though I've been a business coach for a few years, there are still pessimistic thoughts that creep up every now and then that I have to learn to keep at bay. When this happens, I like to focus on the good in my life. I look at the things that I have accomplished, the things I'm going to do presently, and what's to come in the future. Life should be cherished and it's important that you stay optimistic no matter what's going on in your life. I hope that you enjoyed this episode! I look forward to chatting with you next week! Kyle Landwehr's junk removal business has brought in more than $2 million in revenue in the past 3 years. Now, he teaches other people how to start a junk removal business at The Junk Academy, with a system that can grow a remote trash hauling business to 6-figures in under a year. Maybe the most impressive thing about Kyle's story: he's only in his early twenties, and became a millionaire by age 22. He got the idea to start a junk removal business while he was working a 9-5 construction job. He started hauling trash as a side hustle and ended up making $10,000 his first month. That was when he decided to quit his job and focus on junk removal full time. Starting his junk removal business also gave Kyle the money and time he needed to invest in real estate. He'll share how a trash hauling business helped him find great real estate deals and his strategy for buying properties he finds through junk removal. You'll also learn how he gained sales confidence to negotiate deals and how his mentor has helped him achieve such impressive success so quickly. Saya membahas buku Be Obsessed or Be Average karya Grant Cardone.
Obsession is a word and a quality that people often look down on or misunderstand. No one should be so obsessed with something that it ruins their relationships or their lives but it takes a healthy level of obsession to be truly great. I was obsessed with being a big league ball player and if I wasn't I never would have made it. When I worked in finance, the people who were the best producers also happened to be the first ones in and the last ones to leave. It's not a coincidence that those who work the hardest succeed the most. Listen to today's short to hear my experience with being obsessed and to hear some tips from Grant Cardone's book Be Obsessed or be Average. This way, you can work towards your goals. Create Small Experiments – Set up tiny experiments to see if you can succeed and move forward. Even if it doesn't work, you learn something new and do things better next time. Make It Easy – Your experiment should be easy to do and see results. Small Downside – Make sure your experiment has a slight downside, so if it doesn't go well, there is no significant loss. Ensure You Benefit – Make sure that it has substantial benefits if you succeed in the experiment. If it goes correctly Do Something Unique – Do something unique or a take on something you are great at or something that makes it special. You Must Learn Something – whether you succeed or not, make sure you learn something from your experience. Be A Kid Again – Kids love to play and try things, so be more like people Be a Scientist of Your Own Life – Treat your life as a playground of experiments, and you are the scientist. Plan your studies! Be Obsessed – Figure out what you are obsessed with. It will give you the energy to start and then power through the tough times. Reading – This will turn you into a super learner, and it will allow you to stand on the experience of others. Leap ahead! Find Mentors – Find mentors who can help you. They can be local mentors or virtual mentors who don't even know they are your mentor. What would they do if they were in your spot? Find Your Obsession – Think about what you take pictures of. What do you do when you have free time? What did you do when you were a kid and just enjoyed things? Hit Publish! – When you are ready, go for it! Hit PUBLISH! Do whatever activity puts your experiment out there. Don't let fear hold you back! Just do it! Think of the Possibilities – Practice thinking up new ideas. Come up with 10 ideas every day! Are they the 10 books you will write? Is it the 10 places you want to visit next year? What are the 10 food items you want to learn to cook! Anything. The idea is you get really good at thinking about new ideas and thinking outside the box. Don't Be Afraid of the Wobble – When the Wright brothers were on the verge of success with their plane experiment, it wobbled a bit before it was ready to fly. However, the wobble told them this was about to work. That is not the time to become afraid, but instead, be excited that you are about to see your goals and dreams come true. Challenge Try to think up one small experiment you can do in your life that would make your life progress better, something on a small scale that you could just try out and see how it goes. Today, we’re excited to share an awesome interview with Star of Discovery's Undercover Billionaire and Black Woman CEO, Monique Idlett-Mosley. She is the Founder and CEO of Reign Ventures, a technology fund that empowers young entrepreneurs to create their own multimillion-dollar businesses. Monique has generated hundreds of millions for the startup companies she’s collaborated with. After a childhood of adversity, Monique proved herself as a young executive on the rise at USA Today. She made her first fortune by creating an agency that partnered corporations with entertainment and sports stars. Monique went on to become the brains behind the Mosley Music Group, in partnership with her now ex-husband Tim “Timbaland” Mosley, where she was responsible for managing the successful careers of such high-profile artists as One Republic, Nelly Furtado and Chris Cornell. Be sure to listen in today, Monique shares highlights from her Undercover Billionaire journey plus how to move beyond perfectionism & fear. Connect with Monique Idlett-Mosley: Instagram and Reign Ventures Let’s continue the conversation in our online sanctuary for Black women entrepreneurs doing ALL levels of business- The Black Woman CEO Circle **ABOUT UNDERCOVER BILLIONAIRE** DISCOVERY ANNOUNCES SECOND SEASON OF ‘UNDERCOVER BILLIONAIRE’ WITH THREE BUSINESS TYCOONS VYING TO MAKE A MILLION-DOLLAR COMPANY IN JUST 90 DAYS ‘UNDERCOVER BILLIONAIRE’ Returns Wednesday, January 6, at 8 PM ET/PT Followed by the All-New ‘UNDERCOVER BILLIONAIRE: COMEBACK CITY’ at 10 PM ET/PT on Discovery (LOS ANGELES) – In the first season of UNDERCOVER BILLIONAIRE, self-made businessman Glenn Stearns bet big that the American Dream was still alive and well. Viewers watched as Glenn was stripped of his name, wealth and contacts and dropped into a city he’s never been to see if he could build a million-dollar company in 90 days with only $100 in his pocket. Inspired by Glenn’s audacious bet, three new entrepreneurs have stepped forward to embark on the same bold challenge. UNDERCOVER BILLIONAIRE returns for a second season on Wednesday, January 6 at 8 PM ET/PT on Discovery, followed by an all-new series UNDERCOVER BILLIONAIRE COMEBACK CITY at 10 PM ET/PT on Discovery. The series will also stream on Discovery+. This season, three successful entrepreneurs are betting $1 million that they can go undercover in three different cities, start their own business with just $100 and top the million-dollar mark in just 90 days. At the end of the challenge, each of them will reveal their true identities to the people who helped build their business. But will they be able to turn their big ideas into a reality? And can they navigate the impact of COVID-19 that has forced so many businesses across the country to shutter? Each person will need to rely on their own unique secrets of success. Everyone has their own game plans, secret business hacks and strategies. After all, there’s more than one way to make $1 million dollars. The entrepreneurs going undercover this year include: Grant Cardone, an unapologetic entrepreneur and international motivational speaker, real estate investor, sales trainer and author of best-selling publications, including The 10XRule and Be Obsessed or Be Average. The traditional concept of the American Dream -- work hard, save money and own a home -- is wrong, according to Grant. He maintains that people have everything you need, and cash is trash when it sits idle. You need to put your money and your contacts to work. There’s nothing Grant won’t do for an opportunity to succeed, and he believes that relentless attitude should be adopted by everyone. Monique Idlett-Mosley, the founder and CEO of Reign Ventures, a technology fund that empowers young entrepreneurs to create their own multimillion-dollar businesses. Elaine Culotti, a real estate developer, interior designer, builder, founder of House of Rock and visionary. A serial entrepreneur since the age of 14, Elaine broke into the male-dominated construction business and bulldozed her way into becoming one of the industry's biggest players. Elaine doesn’t let anyone or anything stop her from achieving her goals. She has developed and built everything from luxury homes to casinos and hospitals. Elaine moves forward with intense determination, no visible fear of failure, and an uncanny ability to get her way. Following the premiere of UNDERCOVER BILLIONAIRE will be the all-new series UNDERCOVER BILLIONAIRE: COMEBACK CITY premiering Wednesday, January 6 at 10 PM ET/PT on Discovery. In this new series, Glenn Stearns from the first season of UNDERCOVER BILLIONAIRE, returns to Erie, Pa., where he built his business, Underdog BBQ, in just 90 days. Now he has a new mission: rescuing small businesses on the brink of going bust. When the economy hit the skids earlier the year, Glenn was contacted by other Erie businessmen and women who were struggling to keep their own dream alive. Each episode will follow Glenn as he works to turn around one of these small businesses. After assessing their operation and identifying areas to change, he’ll work with them to transform it in just 27 days. Why 27 days? The average small business in America has just 27 days in cash reserves. Glenn believes that if a business can’t turn it around in that amount of time, they'll never be able to. Each episode will give all business owners key lessons on how to stay afloat and grow. Glenn will identify the many pitfalls new businesses face and lay out a plan to reach their money-making goals. Though, no money will be handed out. Viewers will get simple tips on how to earn fast money and thrive despite all the odds. From diners and boxing gyms to coffee shops and rust belt manufacturing, Glenn will share all that he’s learned and might have a few surprise tricks up his sleeves as well. To catch fans up on last season, Discovery will be re-airing the first season of UNDERCOVER BILLIONAIRE in a marathon line-up on Small Business Saturday, beginning at 11 AM ET/PT on Saturday, November 28. Viewers can join the conversation on social media by using #UndercoverBillionaire and follow Discovery on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for the latest updates. Ryan Chaw, pharmacist by day and real estate investor a couple of hours a week, has mastered best practices for investing in student housing. It’s not easy holding down a full-time W2 job and being a profitable real estate investor. However, Ryan has set up systems and processes that make it easier than it should be and shares them in today’s episode. Ryan was inspired by his grandfather, who invested in real estate and retired early and put him and his brother through college. With this bright shining example, Ryan decided he wanted to do the same while maintaining his full-time job. His first property was a 100-year-old home, which taught him valuable but costly lessons. A huge fail forward, if you will. Today, Ryan owns 4 single-family houses with 18 tenants. His properties are on 15-year mortgages and have positive cash flow by renting the homes by bedroom to college students. Ryan and I discuss how anyone with a full-time job can easily get into real estate investing using his methods. We cover the parameters of student housing and how to find and screen college students, so you can avoid renting to a potentially problematic tenant. We also cover cash flow and taxes, scaling fast, and using systems to manage your properties. Key Takeaways: The first investment of a 100-year-old single-family home; the good, the better, and the ugly Why renting to multiple tenants is a good idea Bonus depreciation and cost segregation Appreciation on the property, Increase in rents (a hedge against inflation) Cash flow and taxes Scaling fast, in the beginning, using as much leverage as possible Using systems to manage your properties Why college students are his main focus Tips on renting to college students What Ryan did to fill his rooms during COVID19 Getting rental referrals How to make more rental income renting out by the bedroom Ryan’s strategy on what he will do if the market crashes: Home Equity Line of Credit (HELOC) How to obtain and use a portfolio loan and a line of credit The best way to screen college students using Ryan’s Prime System How to deal with difficult tenants (Hint: Communication) If you take care of the tenant, the tenant will take care of you. You want to be as close to the campus as possible, no HOA, enough parking in the area Deducting most rental income from your taxes Appreciation of value, cash flow every month, and depreciation. The best way for a newbie to start in real estate investing How to set up systems where your tenants help maintain your investment Diversifying your portfolio investing in different college towns You can do all the analysis in the world, but sometimes you have to just take action. So, that would be when you look up the definition, it's "a series of thoughts, images or emotions occurring during sleep.... Hello and Welcome to the 10XDetail Podcast Helping Detailers 10X Their business through Interviews, Coaching & Mentorship! This is more than just a podcast, it's an Adventure in Detailing Entrepreneurship. We share the Pains, the Hardships, and the Joys of Massive Success. Are You Ready to 10X Your Detailing Business? Great! Let’s Make It Happen The 10XDetail Podcast is Sponsored by Pearl Nano Ceramic Coatings and Detail Supplies - Wholesale | Retail | Private Label Options Available - Buy Online at CallingAllDetailers.com Pearl Nano - Dare To Be Different My name is David Elliott and I am glad that you could join us in the first episode of the new Podcast. I would like to use this first episode to introduce myself, what I do, where I have been and why I have developed this show. The quick story is like this: I have been a Car Care Product Producer for over 20 years - Sold these Products in over 100 countries and I have worked with 1000's of Detailing Professionals over the years, worldwide - I am a Sales & Marketing Expert - A Designer - A Podcaster - Retired Military with over 20 years in the US Air Force - Father of 3 - A longtime Surfer and Paddleboarder. I am also an avid 10X’er. Now for the backstory...Many years ago, I was listening to the Entrepreneur on Fire podcast and Grant Cardone was a guest on the show that day. I didn’t know it at that time, but that was going to be the beginning of a long road to massive success. This was the road I was searching for. It’s funny how it pops up when you least expect it. You see, I had been bumbling around in business for many years, actually since 1998, producing products, creating a brand, and a product line, all while I was in the military and some of it was while I was out too. After 2007, I was also Mr. MOM and raising a small family, while enduring a very stressful home life, with an unsupportive and mentally ill spouse. The problem with my business was that I was half-assing almost everything that I did. Yes, I was successful but I was still Over-worked, Scared, Distracted and I just had no idea which way to go, what to do and how to get there. I was also in the process of re-inventing myself and my business for the 3rd time, due to a rogue business partner. It was a tough time. Back to Grant Cardone on EOFire: After hearing the show, I WAS HOOKED. I read and I listened to all of his books - The 10X Rule, Sell or Be Sold, If you’re not First, You’re Last and finally, Be Obsessed or Be Average. After that, I was on a quest to 10X everything in my life and business. I finally had the vision, the attitude and the virtual mentorship that I was looking for. Speed up to today, where I am happily divorced, my kids are almost out of the house, I own a multi-million dollar car care product company, operate out a huge warehouse and I travel the country helping Detailers learn new skills and teach them how to make more money! There’s a lot more than all of this, but I have to keep this story semi-short. In other words, life is good. That’s why I am producing this podcast. I really like helping Detailing Professionals to boost their business. I see some earning half a million to millions of dollars per year, but many really struggle and barely scrape by. Even in a roaring economy, some of the guys are just not making it happen and I know why. It’s not skill, nor hard work and dedication. They have all of this and much more! I believe it is their mindset. The belief in yourself, your abilities and that you can make it happen, no matter what. Don't to things at 1X, Do it at 10X - That’s ten times. 10X is not literally 10 times, but it can be if you work hard enough. It's more of a way of thinking. For example. If you worked very hard to make 500,000 dollars per year, but you ended up only earning $200,000. Would you be disappointed? Probably not. What if you wanted to make $75,000 per year and you worked very hard, but you only earned $50,000. After expenses, you barely had enough to survive. I bet that you would be very disappointed. Shoot HIGH - VERY HIGH - Keep the target in Sight - Do Whatever it Takes to reach the GOAL and you won’t be disappointed. The 10X Detail concept is my own take from the 10X Rule concept. Here’s how I brake it down. Side-note: Only follow these principles, if you really want to be extremely successful in life and in your business! If you don’t want to put the time and effort that it takes to be successful, please do not try. It is all about 10X’ing your mind, your mindset, your behavior, your attitude, and your business. It starts with clearing out your mind from the clutter and negative energy. Feed your body and your mind only the best foods. This means, eliminating TV, the news, video games, and other major distractions, plus it means cutting out the bloodsuckers and life-drainers from your life. This one is HUGE!!! You do not need negative people around you in any way, shape or form. It is time to focus on yourself, your mind, your team, and your family. It’s very important to get everyone in your life, on the same page. Communicate with them, so everyone knows the plan, agrees with it and knows their role and how they can help. This part sounds very selfish, but it is not. Since you are the one working hard to 10X your life and your business, it will take a toll on you. Focusing on yourself is absolutely Vital. By eating well and sleeping more, but also spending time reading, listening and learning every single day. Listening to audiobooks while you drive, work, eat, workout and more. Be OBSESSED! Listen and Learn at all times. I cover much of this on the episodes of this podcast. On the show, you will hear people with the craziest lives and many of them have super successful Detailing businesses. Others are just starting out and need tons of help. It doesn’t matter…we will learn from all of them and we will help them all. Do me a favor and reach out to the other local Detailers, say HI, take them to lunch, get to know them. They are not competition. Please do not look at them as such. They are part of your extended team. Work together, trade jobs, and help each other out, when needed. Just Do It. Speaking of Just Doing it, How about just X-KOTING it: Have you guys heard about X-KOTE? The hand-applied, self-leveling clearcoat that can make almost any vehicle look brand new again. It's an alternative to repainting at the bodyshop or spending countless hours paint correcting. You can even ceramic coat on top of it the next day. Check out X-KOTEUSA.Com If you would like to be on the show, please sign up for a specific time and day at 10XDetail dot com Please follow the show on Facebook and Instagram - at 10XDETAIL If you need some help with this 10X concept or if I say something on the show that you do not understand and need to clarify, be sure to contact me at Dave@PearlNano.com My goal with this podcast is to help detailers make more money, by presenting the ups and downs of other Detailers, plus offer coaching and mentoring them as we progress episode to episode. Thank you for listening. Now go out there and 10X it!

Our first new episode of 2020 features an interview I had with the award-winning illustrator Tom Froese—a freelance illustrator based out of British Columbia. Tom is not only an illustrator but a speaker and teacher on Skillshare—he's featured as a "Top Teacher."In today's episode, Tom shares his story on how he went from being a freelancer, then art director, and ended up choosing to work for himself full-time. He shares how originally he went to school for computer engineering but found his love in design and later illustration. If you would like to read an excerpt from the transcript of our interview, you can find one on the Blue Cyclops Design Co. blog. Nuggets of Wisdom:1. Give Yourself Permission to Pursue What You LoveIf you love illustration, that's your permission to pursue it. Don't feel like you somehow have to meet some kind of qualifications or criteria to start learning illustration or even calling yourself an illustrator.2. Be Obsessed with Learning Your CraftYou must be obsessed enough to study it and put in the effort. A lot of people like what they do but they don't geek out on it enough. Find out who's doing what you want to do or the work that you love and absorb as much information—videos, tutorials, articles and more as possible.3. Make Your Own Opportunities, NowThere's no time like the present and you shouldn't just sit around and wait for an opportunity to fall into your lap. Are you passionate about your purpose in life? Do you know what your purpose is? I recently read a book called Be Obsessed or Be Average by Grant Cardone and I must say, everything he discusses in this book rang true to my belief system. When you have a purpose, a passion, your life's ambition to do xyz, whatever that project or passion may be. Do you believe deep down in your heart of hearts that you were meant to do this thing? Here are a couple of quick questions you can ask yourself about it to see whether or not you're obsessed about it: Do you find it hard to tear yourself away from it when you're working on it? Do you think about it every waking moment of your day or, is it just something you toy around with once in a while and don't think that much about it otherwise? Do you lay awake in bed thinking about how you're going to fuel your project? If you've answered "yes" to any of the above, then, congratulations, you're obsessed. If you answered "no", then you have some work to do. In Grant's book he discusses the importance of becoming obsessed about your purpose. To be thinking about it every waking moment and to work on it all the time. I found if I don't have an obsession over my goals, they never seem to crystallize but when I do obsess about them, they actually come to life. Today I want you to become obsessed about your passion. Whether you're looking to produce a new album, write the next top selling novel or create a work of art that's going to be your masterpiece. Please do it with love, with gusto but more importantly with obsession. Have you finished your holiday shopping? If not, you may like to pick up a copy of the upcoming book: 151 Musically Inspired Secrets to Master This Thing Called Life! Be sure to pre-order your copy today. It will help you or your loved one become "obsessed" about your dreams and desires and create the life they want to live. Remember, it's never too late to live the life of your dreams and leave a trail blazin' behind you. Rock On & Rock Out, Dawn-Marie Stay in touch: Instagram: @lildrummergirl55

Turning Obsession Into Success Real estate mogul Grant Cardone explains his obsessive approach to business, and his 10X Rule for goal-setting. Grant Cardone, a self-made real estate mogul, sales and marketing trainer, and bestselling author, credits his success in life to persistence and an obsession with being the best. That, and his time working at a car dealership. “The first real job I had was my sixth job,” he says of the gig. “I was fired from my first five. Fired from my sixth job. I was fired six times, but I wouldn’t leave the last job. I just would not leave.” Part of the reason Cardone’s bosses kept getting so fed up with him was that he was a terrible driver. Not a great quality when working in the car business, as he kept smashing up the merchandise. But his relentlessness made up for it. “I would wreck their cars and they would fire me,” he says. “And then before I would leave, I would go sell something and they would keep me on. Selling something was always forgiveness.” By the time Cardone finally did leave, he was the highest-grossing salesman at the dealership. He was the first one there in the morning and the last one to leave at night, his goal always being to make himself indispensable to the company. And to make a lot of money. So yeah, Cardone is, well, obsessive. Coming up from nothing, financially speaking, he quickly learned that was the way to rise to the top. It’s helped him achieve his lifelong goals to make money, have a successful career, and help people along the way. Now, Cardone’s exploring that approach to life and business with his new book, appropriately titled Be Obsessed or Be Average. The Origins of Obsession In his book, Cardone writes, “I didn’t have a father who could lead me to the land of the rich, lend me a million dollars for my first real estate deal, assist with political connections through introductions at country clubs, or show me the ways of business.” His fate was forged, instead, by the tragic death of his father when Cardone was just 10 years old. Until that day, he had watched his father work hard to provide for his wife and his five children, starting a variety of businesses, from opening a grocery store to starting a life insurance company, and finally becoming a licensed stock broker. His father’s “drive and his obsession,” as Cardone puts it, were inspiring. And when he died, leaving the family behind to get by on their own, Cardone became obsessed himself—with the idea of creating enough wealth so he would never worry about money again. But his was a winding path to success. He carried around a lot of anger about his difficult situation, and fell into the wrong crowd in high school. He started smoking and drinking. He got into a lot of fights and a lot of trouble. By the time Cardone graduated, he writes in his book, “I had a massive daily drug problem.” He did go to college, however, fulfilling a promise his mother had made to his father. He graduated with an accounting degree after what he called “five long, miserable years.” At 23, he was broke and still doing drugs every day, just barely getting by at his car dealership jbo. “I was 20 pounds underweight and had a gray complexion, thanks to the drugs,” he writes. At 25, his mother gave him an ultimatum: get clean or never come back. Cardone checked himself into rehab, and although he says it didn’t address the underlying problem, he discovered he could get by without drugs. He vowed to never touch them again and to use his “addictive personality” to his advantage. Turning It Around After rehab, his boss gave him his job at the dealership back, a move that Cardone says probably saved his life. He worked harder than any other associate, and doubled his earnings in the process. “It wasn’t until I figured out how to make somebody else rich that I could be rich,” he says. Cardone finally left his sales job at the car dealership and moved to a sales consulting firm. “I treated my little department as, ‘This is my company within a company.’ And I wanted to make that company as a strong as possible,” he says. When he left the firm to go out on his own, it was because he felt there was no more opportunity to grow. So at 29 he started his first company, Cardone Automotive, a sales consulting business for the automotive industry. By 30, he’d already made his first million, but it didn’t come easy. “That was a company where I was cold-calling other businesses across the U.S. and Canada.” Cardone was working hard, doing what most entrepreneurs do and devoting all of his time to his business. “I was just hustling. Everything was a transaction...to get money and pay the taxes and have a little bit of money left over.” And even though his company was making money, year after year, Cardone knew he had to do more to become a true entrepreneur. ‘You’re Not a Business’ Cardone had never stopped to think about what an entrepreneur really is. Sure, he’d started a business and it was running smoothly, but he wasn’t reinvesting in it. He wasn’t thinking about marketing or expanding. Instead, he was following the old adage, hard work pays off. “All I was doing was knocking on doors. It was pure effort. I wasn’t spending money. I wouldn’t spend real money until I was 50 years old, about 10 years ago, when a guy said, ‘Bro, you’re not a business.’” Cardone knew it was time for a change if he wanted to achieve the kind of success he’d set his sights on. He had to rethink how to do business, how to expand, and how to get the word out. “The first thing I did was flipped everything. I could no longer be sales first. I had to be marketing first. Marketing and branding. Because to me, a business is, I can walk away from it and it will still operate. I was a guy. I was no different than when I was 30, just pounding doors.” That’s when he came up with the 10X Rule. The 10X Rule In 2011, Cardone published his personal business philosophy in his first book, called The 10X Rule: The Only Difference Between Success and Failure. The 10X Rule challenges readers to estimate the amount of time and effort it will take to achieve a goal and then multiply that estimate by 10. It also trains readers to think differently about what they can achieve in the first place. Cardone writes that most people underestimate themselves and what they can achieve. If they identify a goal, say making $100,000 in a fiscal year, they should multiply that by 10. “10X woke me up. 10X was not for the public. 10X was for me,” he says. He created it because he was trying to figure out why, despite his success as an entrepreneur, he wasn’t growing the way he had expected. “I work hard, I’ve got great products, I’ve got a great reputation, great reviews. People like me. They like my content. They like my content actually better than they like me. That might have been an exaggeration.” Is 10X totally achievable? Not necessarily, but that’s not really the point of the rule. It’s to shake up the way you perceive what’s possible. “It’s not achievable, but it’s worth it. You have four, five million dollars sitting in an account today. What if you had $50 million? It’s not achievable, but it’s worth going for it. It’s fun shit, man.” Even if you can’t achieve 10X, anything you hit will surpass your original goal. Investing in His Brand Cardone started toward his own 10X goal by spending the money he made, reinvesting in his business, starting or acquiring new businesses, and making himself known across industries. “People knew me in a particular industry. They didn’t know me in every industry. So the first thing that I took on was that I need to get people know me in every industry while I continue to knock on doors and pay my bills.” He began by writing books and business programs, which got his brand out there while generating their own money. His next two businesses were sales education platforms, Cardone Education and Cardone On-Demand, online training seminars that established him as a subject matter expert and drew in revenue from large and small businesses alike. He also started to grow his influence on social media. “I started with one follower, just like everybody else, and I was the follower. My second follower was my wife because I created an account for her on YouTube and said you’re going to follow me.” Currently, he has 6.1 million followers on Facebook, almost 395,000 followers on Twitter, 2 million followers on Instagram, and almost 1.2 million subscribers on YouTube. “I’ve grinded for every one of those followers. And delivered content to them so I could scale out.” His goal was to expand his reach beyond the U.S., and bring in a global audience for his 10x message. He now holds speaking engagements that attract thousands across the globe. He consults for major brands, and his videos on Grant Cardone TV get thousands of views. Investing in Himself The best business advice Cardone has ever received came not from someone in business, but from his mother, he once told CNBC. “She said, ‘The best investment you will ever make is in yourself. It’s a no-lose deal. It will always give you a return. Nobody can take it from you. It’s yours.’” Cardone looks for every opportunity to improve himself, whether that’s a charity event that helps him build new relationships or a seminar that will help him acquire new skills or refine old ones. “People should be invested in the beginning, just in themselves. Every chance you can get to go to something that could possibly help you. If it has a 1% chance of even adding to the value. Spend the money. Don’t sit on the money. Money’s useless.” He eschews saving money or even spending it on something most people wouldn’t think twice about—buying a house. “That’s the dumbest thing anybody could do. That’s the dumbest thing I ever did was buy a house. I bought a house and I didn’t improve myself. I spent more time picking furniture out than I did , “Hey, how do I fix me?” What’s 10x for Cardone, Now? So what’s the next big move for Cardone? Turning those millions into billions, of course. “10x is how do I do a billion dollars a year in income? And then how do I do $10 billion in real estate? How do I have a $10 billion real estate portfolio? How do I start competing with these banks so they’re like, you know what? We really don’t like all this noise you’re making. You’re a noisy guy. And we’re kind of getting tired of it.” Cardone’s ability to disrupt industries and make noise has landed him where he is today, as an influential sales trainer and real estate mogul. He turned an obsession into a reality and used a quirk in his personality to create a global empire. Advice for Budding Entrepreneurs Cardone now runs five privately held companies, including Cardone Capital, an $800 million real estate company. His 30-year success as an entrepreneur has given him the unique opportunity to share insights with other budding business moguls. He shared with us some of his best bits of advice. ‘Make money your battle cry.’ “Make money. Make money. Make money your battle cry. Go collect money. Don’t make money, just go collect money. Have a great product. Have a great service. Over-deliver. Collect money. Charge for it.” Put your team in the spotlight. “If you notice, I show off my people a lot. I don’t keep them behind the scenes. I’m like here, let’s have more than the Cardone show. Why do I do that? Where did I learn that? Great companies.” Don’t cling to your money—reinvest it. “The first sheet of paper I get every day is how much cash I have. That’s not for bragging rights. It’s because I want to get rid of it. It’s like trash. I want to get rid of this money. Money is being devalued worldwide right now. I didn’t say I have no reserves, but I don’t need $167 million.” Interview by Nathan Chan, feature article reprinted from Foundr Magazine, by Laurie Mega Key Takeaways How the death of Cardone’s father shaped him from a young age The winding road to overcoming drug addiction Why Cardone was fired from his car dealership job six times—and why he kept getting rehired How Cardone channeled his addictive personality into his work The launch of Cardone Automotive, and how it got him his first $1 million in a year Why Cardone decided to rethink the way he ran his business What the 10X rule means, and how it can be applied to any aspect of your life How Cardone leveled up his personal branding and became an influencer Why Cardone is passionate about the idea of investing in yourself A sneak peek into his latest book Be Obsessed or Be Average
I remember my dad telling me that "If it was easy, everyone would be doing it." And another nugget of wisdom I got from him, was "if it's worth doing, it's worth doing right." It's the same thing I'm trying to teach my daughter. And it's something I remind myself about all the time. Grant Cardone did an amazing job of describing the right mindset in his book, "Be Obsessed or Be Average" and I'm talking about how I'm applying that principle to my work.

This is the biggest, craziest thing I’ve ever done. Bigger than buying a house without conditions, without seeing it, without my wife’s permission while we had another house vacant and undergoing renovations. The feeling is more like that combined with skydiving, bungee jumping, hangliding, competing in martial arts, and public speaking in front of 600+ investors. Everything I’ve done in my life and career has been building up to this moment and I’m grateful for my team and most importantly, my wife Cherry who has been my partner in this process and putting this event together. I honestly tell her about these crazy ideas I have and she applies her critical thinking about how we make it happen. What am I talking about? These times we live in are hard. Housing affordability is the #1 or 2 issue all across Canada. Canadians without pensions are faced with working into their 70s or 80s to afford retirement. If you’re a parent or grandparent, you have to be worried about how the next generation can get a job let alone move out and buy a home. If you work in corporate, are you getting ahead in life? Do you really want to keep working till your 70’s or 80’s or would you prefer to make money in your sleep? I’ve been there, I worked in technology and survived two rounds of layoffs, once during the recession and again when our company was acquired. I’m survived only to see my friends: mom’s and dad’s walked out by HR, folks with bills, mouths to feed and mortgages to pay, grateful I survived but wondering when it was going to be my turn. What is one to do about it? Become a Wealth Hacker. Learn to make money in your sleep in any market. Take control of your financial future. Financing Market Update, Financing Vacation Properties, Heart Attack by 39 With The Best Mortgage Broker Dave Butler This week’s guest: The recording is from late March and right after Trudeau’s announcement on how CMHC will help out new home buyers. Unfortunately Dave didn’t have a chance to do a full review as he literally just got off a plane returning home from vacation but here are my two cents… I’m really interested in knowing how the government plans on funding this program, FYI the deficit is huge and ever expanding under this government. What is the repayment plan going to look like and do I really want the government owning a piece of my real estate? More questions than actual insight but the truth about real estate is this. Every time the government introduces new legislation around real estate, the market goes nuts. In this case, I’d expect a buying frenzy when the new CMHC program goes live in the fall so if you’re actively growing your portfolio, I would buy sooner than later to avoid a buying frenzy starts. Back to our guest who is Dave Butler of Butler Mortgages, the #1 Mortgage Brokerage in Canada and my personal Mortgage Broker. I’ve always been a fan of working with the best of the best which is why I work with Dave and Dan Patton and team. Dave is crazy successful but he also paid the price of living as a workaholic, smoking, being overweight and pulling off 400 something all nighters resulting in a heart attack at the age of 39. Please let this all be a lesson. If you have an inkling of a heart attack: pain, short of breath and discomfort, call 911. Thankfully Dave is still alive and kicking to be here sharing on this podcast.

When someone believes in your idea and wants to invest in you, it's easy to fall in love with the idea of forming a partnership. Unfortunately, there are a lot of bullshit artists out there who will sell you the dream—and then abandon you when times get tough. What can we do to protect ourselves? How can an aspiring entrepreneur avoid going into business with someone who will exploit their enthusiasm? Today, I am joined by yet another motivated, young entrepreneur, Azohani Bernal. She is the founder of Innovative Moving Solution, the Expedia of professional moving services. Azohani explains how helping other business owners become successful led her to entrepreneurship, and she describes the setbacks she faced early on by neglecting to track her marketing numbers. We share some valuable Power Notes around vetting the people you do business with and being skeptical of bullshit artists who try to sell you a dream. We’re Obsessed and that’s a Good Thing: Obsession is the word of the day at Entrepreneur Weekly. Alex Canter, 4th generation owner and operator of the historic Canter's Deli in Los Angeles, is positively obsessed with helping old school restaurants embrace technology to catapult their business to new heights. After implementing an online ordering service at his family’s restaurant, Alex quickly grew frustrated with managing orders from multiple services like Grubhub and DoorDash. Each new online ordering platform increased revenue, but came at a cost; proprietary software, hardware, and staff training for each service lead to an operations nightmare. Find out how Alex’s passion for problem solving gave birth to Ordermark, a consolidated online ordering interface that merges hometown eateries with e-commerce. Next, Patrick Campbell, Co-founder and CEO of ProfitWell, says you need to be ‘customer obsessed’ if you hope to convert leads into revenue. Patrick feels that subscription companies are uniquely positioned to provide the ultimate customer service experience; consumers reevaluate the value proposition at the end of each term giving businesses the impetus to constantly improve their offerings or face dwindling returns. The title of Grant Cardone's book, Be Obsessed or Be Average, speaks for itself. Everybody obsesses about things whether or not we care to admit it. The question is how correctly focused those obsessions are when it comes to obtaining the life we desire. He said in the audiobook, "The greatest YOU... will be discovered far outside your comfort zone!" This podcast challenges us all to become aware and properly in control of our obsessions. Since much of what we want is on the other side of fear, our proper obessions can also drive us in willingly taking decisive actions outside of our comfort zone to expand our scope of joy, satisfaction and overall accomplishment.
Today I share valuable teachings from Grant Cardone at 10X Growth Con. Grant is a NY Times best selling author of The 10X Rule. He's also written Sell or be Sold, Be Obsessed or Be Average, If You're Not First, You're Last, the Millionaire Booklet and more. He's the founder of the sales training program, Cardone University, and founder of Cardone Capital investing and is inspiring and changing millions of people's lives through his principles and teachings.

In today's episode of The Art of Passive Income, Mark and Scott talk to Arel Moodie from TheArtOfLikability. Arel has started and ran several companies. Inc. Magazine called him a High-energy motivator and he's on their 30 under 30 list. Essence Magazine said he should be the poster boy for rags-to-riches stories, and he is one of America's top young speakers! Today he is here to talk to us about the importance of being liked and the 5 important things to help you become more likable, which he calls the 5-S System: Special—How are you going to make that other person feel special? Satisfy—Stick to your word. If you say that you're going to do something, then do it! Smile—Not only focus on your smile, but how are you going to make that other person smile. Standards—Acknowledge the best in yourself and in other's as well. Sincerity—Being genuine is key to likability! It's important to take all of these into consideration when you are doing business with someone but also in life in general. Listen in as Arel discusses more into the details of his 5-S system. TIPS OF THE WEEK Mark: Become more likable and learn more about Arel by going to his website at www.ArtOfLikability.com Scott: Read the book Be Obsessed or Be Average by Grant Cardone. Arel: A weekly strategy that Arel calls Phonebook Roulette. Open up your contact list on your phone, and take your finger and swipe up and down and just stop. Whichever name you stop on, write that person a text message. Don't ask for anything, just say, Hi, I was just thinking about you and I want to let you know I really appreciate you. A lot of times we get so busy in life we can't tell people how much they mean to us but I want to tell you, you mean a lot to me. Sincerely... Isn't it time to create passive income so you can work where you want, when you want and with whomever you want?
