In This Episode: In this inspiring episode of The Ops Experts Club, Aaron and Terryn sit down with Brett Swartz, founder of Capital Gains Tax Solutions and author of the Amazon bestseller Building a Capital Gains Tax Exit Plan. Brett shares insights from his book and his passion for helping entrepreneurs and investors achieve financial freedom through innovative tax strategies. He also dives into the power of goal setting, drawing from his and his wife Melanie's mission-driven approach to life, family, and business.   Key Highlights: The Book: Building a Capital Gains Tax Exit Plan: Brett discusses his Amazon bestseller, co-authored with industry titans like Kevin Harrington (Shark Tank), Don Winter (DLP), and CPA Tyler McBroom. The book blends Brett's expertise in the Deferred Sales Trust—a strategy to defer capital gains taxes and replace the 1031 exchange—with stories of entrepreneurship, real estate investing, and mentorship. It offers practical guidance on building a tax-efficient exit plan and assembling a dream team for family-office-style wealth management. Deferred Sales Trust (DST): Brett explains how the DST empowers business owners and real estate investors to defer taxes on multi-million-dollar exits, unlocking capital to multiply freedom and impact. The book highlights real-world applications, from multi-family properties to mobile home parks, making it a must-read for entrepreneurs and investors. Goal Setting and Living on Mission: Brett shares his and Melanie's intentional approach to goal setting, rooted in their faith and family values. With five kids (ages 6-14), they prioritize a clear family mission, including a bold goal inspired by Don Winter: “1,000 extraordinary days in 100 unique locations” before their kids turn 18. Brett emphasizes defining a clear vision, building systems, hiring coaches, and embracing grit to sustain momentum. He advocates for a growth mindset over a goal mindset, citing John Maxwell and Craig Groeschel to underscore the power of momentum in achieving lasting success. Practical Advice for Aspiring Wealth Builders: For listeners not yet part of the wealth transfer wave, Brett offers actionable steps: clarify your calling, write down and visualize goals, seek mentorship, and implement systems to track progress. His journey from Cheesecake Factory to financial freedom post-2008 crash exemplifies the resilience needed to build a legacy. This episode is a must for entrepreneurs, real estate investors, and operations professionals looking to scale their businesses, plan for tax-efficient exits, and live with purpose. Brett's heartfelt story, practical strategies, and infectious passion make this a motivating and actionable conversation. Where are you putting your intentional focus both at work and in life? In this episode, Jeff, Jeff, and Don discuss: Where Don's passion for building thriving communities with deep connection originates. Generosity and philanthropy is more than just money. Reframing thinking around philanthropy as an organization. Getting clear around values and living them with intentionality. Just getting started with your giving.Key Takeaways: Community change starts with childhood education. Many studies show a direct correlation between the third-grade reading level and later success in life. Where much has been given, much is required. All resources belong to God, including money, talents, time, relationships, and so much more. How are you stewarding His resources? There are opportunities for ministry outside of what you think. 94% of people in rental communities do not have church in their lives. Safety and security come from deep community and relationships.   "We think of living fully as the eight Fs of life: faith, family, friends, freedom, fun, fulfillment, fitness, and finance. We do a lot of work around personal development, helping people get clear, get intentional, about what they want to accomplish in their life and in their family, and giving them the tools, support, resources, training, and space to really focus on those areas besides just their career." —  Don Wenner About Don Wenner: Don Wenner is the Founder and CEO of DLP Capital, a private real estate investment and financial services firm focused on building thriving communities. The firm's core focus is on investing in, developing, and financing attainable housing for America's workforces, including multifamily and single-family rental communities, along with investments in outdoor hospitality and RV campgrounds. He originally formed DLP Capital—standing for “Dream, Live, Prosper”—as a small, residential real estate sales firm in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania, not far from Philadelphia. Within five years, he had expanded the firm to include an investment portfolio of real estate rentals along with property management. Soon after, the firm added real estate brokerage and construction affiliates and had grown to 100+ employees. During that time, Don Wenner also planted the seeds for more ambitious organizational goals—creating blueprints for building and scaling elite, entrepreneurial organizations for high growth and profits. The culmination of this initiative is DLP Capital's “Elite Execution System,” which provides the tools and roadmap to help businesses achieve extraordinary growth. Don attended Drexel University. He resides in St. Augustine, FL and Asheville, NC with his wife and three sons. Don lives his life guided by the verse of “To whom much is given, much will be required,” Luke 12:48. In addition to pursuing his calling of building thriving communities, his passions revolve around his faith, his family, and philanthropy. Don enjoys devouring books, traveling, exercising, and spending time outdoors hiking, walking, biking, playing basketball, pickleball, and coaching his kids' sports.  Connect with Don Wenner:Website: impactwithdon.comWebsite: dlpelite.com Book: Building an Elite Organization & Building an Elite CareerPodcast: pod.link/1572842367   YouTube: youtube.com/channel/UC-CjLEtsNsWcl-AemvGYaBwLinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/donwenner/Instagram: instagram.com/don_wenner Facebook: facebook.com/DonWennerCEO/ Webinar: Building an Extraordinary FamilyFind out more about upcoming events at: dlpcapital.com/events Connect with Jeff Thomas: Website: arkosglobal.comPodcast: generousbusinessowner.comBook: arkosglobal.com/trading-upEmail: jeff.thomas@arkosglobal.comTwitter: twitter.com/ArkosGlobalAdv Facebook: facebook.com/arkosglobalLinkedIn: linkedin.com/company/arkosglobaladvisorsInstagram: instagram.com/arkosglobaladvisorsYouTube: youtube.com/channel/UCLUYpPwkHH7JrP6PrbHeBxw

So tune in and let's simplify your path to success together.Key Takeaways(00:00) The Power of Copy(15:45) Website Success Through Resonance Creation(24:06) Effective Communication and Website Copy Simplified(30:15) The Power of Simplifying for SuccessShareable Quotes"So really it comes down to every story, every movie you've ever watched, any story you've ever heard somebody tell. If it's a good story, if it's a compelling story, it always begins with a hero who has a problem that they can't solve, and that hero then eventually meets a guide that has a solution and through that relationship the hero finds success. And that is the mystery behind every story you've ever heard.""We forget what it's like to not know what we know, and so we end up speaking to other people or potential clients as if they get it and with language that goes over their head. That's called the curse of knowledge, and it's really common for anyone who's an expert in their field.""You just kind of empathize like, hey, I get this, this is hard. This is a big decision. There's a lot riding on this decision and it feels like a lot. The last thing you want is more stress on your big day. Connie Steele grew up as a first generation Chinese-American with the traditional pressures to excel academically as the pathway to success. Her Dad had a Ph.D. in economics and statistics, so there was an emphasis on excellence in math. Connie studied statistics in college. In her junior year, she sought out vocational books in the library to figure out what she was going to do next. She read about marketing research, then took a marketing class and loved it. Connie went to the University of Michigan for a master's degree in applied statistics where she was also able to take classes in the business school. Later, she earned a doctorate in statistics.  Today, Connie is passionate about helping leaders build fluid organizations to adapt and thrive in a world where uncertainty is the new certainty. She is on a mission to help professionals and companies get unstuck to achieve their goals confidently. With over twenty years of working at Fortune 500 companies, such as AOL and General Mills, start-ups and scale-up organizations, and high-growth tech companies, Connie shared with me the full range of how businesses have had to become more collaborative and fluid.  Connie has always been intrigued by the “why” behind companies and careers that thrive. Her goal is to help people discover their portfolio career or super job, their “career mashup”, her term for the career of the future in which they merge their skills, passions, and values. In her best-selling book Building the Business of You, Connie shares future work trends that explain how people's motivations and expectations are changing with respect to work and life. She couples this with a five-step long-term strategic planning framework to help readers take greater control of their careers, personal and leadership development. Connie just published "What Workers Want," the second annual State of Work and Career Success survey. Connie is conducting this survey annually to understand what does it take to be successful now in this new world of work? What holds us back as individuals (not employees) from reaching our goals? What does it take to reach one's career potential, and what is that relationship with their company's potential? In this week's Work From The Inside Out podcast, learn more about Connie's journey: Connie is the host of the Strategic Momentum podcast, devoted to meaningful work-life fit in an ever-changing world through inspiring stories, actionable tips, and pragmatic advice from those that found their fit. Her perspectives and advice have appeared in Forbes, Authority Magazine, TechRound, and Thrive Global. In the 1830s, Rev. Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet's method of teaching reading to deaf children was evolutionary and became inviting enough that  the then secretary of education, Horace Munn, adopted to teaching it to neurotypical children; the logic being, if the teaching strategy works for the deaf it must work wonders for all. It wasn't until much later that that it was discovered how ill-fitted such an extrapolation was. For far too long the culture has harbored a dreamy notion that gifted teachers are born and not made and they turn naive children into the learned ones with some magical powers and the techniques involved in teaching are a matter of personal will. What if that's simply a myth?On this episode, author, journalist, and CEO and co-founder of Chalkbeat, Elizabeth Green, discusses that becoming a great teacher is attainable to all through the mastery of specific learned key skills unique to the profession of teaching. As Thomas Jefferson warned us, “we cannot be a powerful nation and illiterate too”; we must acknowledge the dazzling intellectual challenge teaching poses and prepare accordingly.About Elizabeth GreenElizabeth Green is the CEO and co-founder of Chalkbeat, the nonprofit news organization dedicated to improving educational equity through local, independent, high-impact journalism. Since launching in 2014, Chalkbeat's reporting has spurred changes in education funding, legislation, policy, and practice and is regularly cited or republished in dozens of publications, including The New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Atlantic, Vox, and more. Elizabeth also co-founded the American Journalism Project, the first venture philanthropy firm dedicated to local news. Her book Building a Better Teacher was a New York Times bestseller and notable book of 2014. She has also written about education issues for The New York Times Magazine, U.S. News & World Report, and other publications. Elizabeth has been a Spencer Fellow in education journalism at Columbia University and an Abe Journalism Fellow studying education in Japan. Building the Benedict Option is a combination of a spiritual memoir and a practical handbook for Christians who want to build communities of prayer, socialization, and evangelization in the places where they live and work.   Beginning when the author was a new convert, she desired more communal prayer and fellowship than weekly Mass could provide. She surveyed her friends--busy, young, urban professionals like herself--and created unique enriching or supportive experiences that matched their desires and schedules. The result was a less lonely and more boisterous spiritual and social life.   No Catholic Martha Stewart, Libresco is frank about how she plans events that allow her to feed thirty people on a Friday night without feeling exhausted. She is honest about the obstacles to prayer and the challenge to make it inviting and unobtrusive. Above all, she communicates the joy she has experienced since discovering ways to open her home (even when it was only a small studio apartment).   The reader will close this book with four or five ideas for events to try over the next few weeks, along with the tools to make them fruitful. From film nights to picnics in the park to resume-writing evenings, there are plenty of ideas to choose from and loads of encouragement to make more room in one's life for others.   https://www.ignatius.com/Building-the-Benedict-Option-P2963.aspx?fbclid=IwAR1agdgPguHS28A6MNlhdhO0XczHcTfm5zo4q8nUmxN7NCyhmt4_Pa-i6t8

Happy Mother's Day! Proverbs 24: 3-4 (NIV) Teaching Points: 1) Spiritual Priority 2) Biblical Intimacy 3) Scriptural Legacy 4) Visual Dependency 5) Relational Unity 6) Verbal Charity Discussion Questions: 1. Read Psalm 127:1 and Joshua 24:15. Why is the Lordship of Jesus Christ a key factor in having a spiritual priority for our families? How does this affect our marriages? How does this affect the way we raise our children? 2. Phil defined a "Scriptural legacy" as a tangible Bible, but also as a life that has "lived in" and "lived out" that Bible. Did you ever receive a Scriptural legacy from someone? What does your own Scriptural legacy look like? Do you have one, and do you have a plan to pass it along? 3. Why is it so important for our children (and grandchildren) to see us depending on God and on his Word? During this COVID-19 season, how have you had to depend on God? Have your children seen that dependence? 4. When families love God and worship God TOGETHER in their homes and in their churches, it creates relational unity. What are some of the practical ways that you have loved God and worshiped God together as a family--both in your home and in your church? If you had an opportunity to encourage a younger family about this, what would you say? 5. Read Ephesians 4:29 and James 1:19-20. How would you assess the words that are spoken in your home--be honest. Is your home a place filled with words of "unrighteous anger," or do the words spoken in your home give grace to the hearers? What are some practical ways that we can better love our family members with our words?

Join Sarah Bond, Council Director of the European Diversity & Inclusion in Business Council, as she interviews Stephen Frost on his latest book, Building An Inclusive Organisation. A diverse workforce is a business imperative. Without it, companies are made up of employees who come from the same background and have the same skills and, therefore, the same blind spots. A diverse workforce brings together different strengths, a variety of experiences, a huge breadth of knowledge and a wealth of creative problem-solving techniques.

Beth Standlee is the author of "People buy from People", a new book about sales and the all-too-common struggle many people have with becoming the salesperson they need to become.  Beth tells how to build relationships without being the annoying, smarmy used-car salesman none of us want to be.  She also shares how the process of selling shouldn't be simply about a transaction, but about building relationships so you can genuinely help others with your experience and services.  For more info on Beth: TrainerTainment We'd love to hear your thoughts or suggestions for future episodes, or any questions you have for the mail bag!
