In Day 197, the final lesson of Orchot Tzaddikim, The Ways of the Righteous, Rabbi Aryeh Wolbe brings the entire journey to its culmination. The author returns to the idea that the human being is an Olam Katan—a miniature world. The wonders of creation, both physical and spiritual, are reflected within the human being, and the soul itself reflects, in an infinitely limited way, attributes that point us toward the Creator. Just as the soul fills the body, sustains it, outlives it, sees without being seen, remains pure, and does not sleep, so Hashem fills, sustains, transcends, sees, and governs His universe.This realization should lead not to pride, but to humility, awe, gratitude, and responsibility. Rabbi Wolbe urges us to contemplate the extraordinary design of the human body—from our eyes and ears to our breath, bones, skin, and countless systems—and ask: Who gave me all of this? The more deeply we appreciate how much Hashem has invested in us, the more we understand that our lives carry purpose and obligation. Yirat Shamayim is not despair or fearfulness; it is the awareness that we have been entrusted with something extraordinarily precious.The entire book ultimately comes down to the words of Kohelet: “Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole of man.” After studying humility, arrogance, love, hatred, mercy, cruelty, happiness, jealousy, worry, repentance, Torah, and countless other middot, the final challenge is internal. It is no longer simply about how we appear to others, but about the private relationship between the individual and Hashem: Do I truly fear God? Is my relationship with Hashem where it should be? Inspiration must become action. Torah must change us.The conclusion takes on additional meaning as Rabbi Wolbe notes that the class coincides with his Hebrew birthday. He offers a heartfelt blessing to the TORCH community for health, happiness, gratitude, spiritual growth, and a genuine relationship with Hashem. He encourages each listener to view every new year of life as another opportunity to recommit to service, growth, and appreciation for the gift of another day.And, fittingly, the journey does not truly end. Rabbi Wolbe immediately opens Shaar HaBitachon, the Gate of Trust in God, from Chovot HaLevavot. The message is clear: when Torah learning concludes, we begin again. Bitachon means learning to release our illusion of control and place our reliance entirely in Hashem—like a child resting securely in the arms of a loving parent. Lawmakers are formally condemning the non-consensual sterilization of thousands of Native women by the Indian Health Service in the 1970s. as Jeanette DeDios (Jicarilla Apache and Diné) reports. Sterilization abuse against Native women is at the center of a congressional resolution introduced this week. U.S. Reps. Sharice Davids (Ho-Chunk Nation), D-Kansas, and Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pennsylvania, introduced a resolution officially condemning the non-consensual sterilization of Native American women by IHS during the 1970s. According to Davids' office, a federal investigation found that between 1973 and 1976, IHS performed sterilization procedures on more than 3,400 Native women in four service areas without fully complying with informed consent requirements. The Government Accountability Office, then known as the General Accounting Office, found problems including inadequate consent forms, improper waiting periods, and procedures performed on women under the age of 21. The resolution acknowledges the lasting harm caused by the practice and calls for greater awareness of the federal government's role in the abuse. Davids says the history is personal for Native communities and that acknowledging what happened is necessary to rebuild trust. The resolution also calls for continued efforts to protect informed consent and reproductive autonomy for Native people receiving health care. Davids is one of the first two Native American women elected to Congress. (Courtesy National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation / Facebook) Across the country, Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians marked the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation this week. As Dan Karpenchuk reports, September 30, also known as Orange Shirt Day, has become an important day of survivors of Canada's notorious residential school system. It is also known as Orange Shirt Day and was declared by the Canadian government following the discovery of more than 200 unmarked gaves at the site of a former residential school in British Columbia. The National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation says more than 150,000 First Nations, Métis, and Inuit children attened the schools between the mid 1800's to the late 1900's. Many of them never returned to their homes and families. The children were taken from their families and communites and sent the residential schools which were run by churches and financed by the government. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney spoke in Edmonton about the sixth National Day for Truth and Reconcialiation. He said the day is about the children – those who survived and those who did not. “And this is not a distant chapter in Canada's past, but a truth that endures. And truth is the foundation of justice. We shouldn't choose, as we used to here, in Fort Edmonton, which parts of our history to remember. We shouldn't admire the bead work, and foreget the children that were forced into uniforms. We shoudn't honour the drum and ignore the years that it was made to fall silent. And we should not hear the truth of residential schools and fail to act on it.” Across Canada, survivors of the schools told their stories of abuse and loss of culture. In Ottawa, Governor General Louise Arbour said it is important for all Canadians to face their unsettling past. She said truth does not change the past; it is a reminder that memory carries responsibility, to recognize the injustices to learn from them, and to ensure that they are never repeated. Your spouse says the affair is over. They've answered your questions. You may have the timeline, the passwords, the location access and the information you spent months searching for. So why don't you feel safe? And why can't you trust them yet? After infidelity and marital betrayal, knowing the truth and feeling safe are not the same thing. Does this relationship help me become more securely myself or am I becoming increasingly attached to surviving it? In this episode the question isn't simply: "Do you love them?" Sometimes a much harder question is: "What exactly are you calling love?" Because one of the hardest truths in relationships is that sometimes the intense feelings we experience are not evidence that a relationship is healthy.Sometimes intensity is anxiety. Sometimes chemistry is unpredictability. Sometimes longing is withdrawal. Sometimes reconciliation feels euphoric because it follows emotional pain. And sometimes what we keep calling an extraordinary connection may actually involve a trauma-bonding pattern.

Read OnlineTestifying to the TruthJesus appointed seventy-two other disciples whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit. He said to them, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest. Go on your way; behold, I am sending you like lambs among wolves.”  Luke 10:1–3One of the clearest safeguards for ensuring the authenticity and integrity of Christian duty is that we proclaim the Gospel in communion with others. The Christian disciple is never a lone ranger. We do not carry the mission of Christ by private inspiration or isolated insight, but in the context of the Church. The Gospel we preach is not our own. It originates in God, is handed on through Sacred Tradition, and is entrusted to the Church as a whole.When Jesus sent out the seventy-two disciples, He sent them in pairs. This had deep theological and scriptural significance. According to Mosaic Law, the testimony of two or three witnesses was necessary to establish truth (cf. Deuteronomy 19:15). This standard was well known in Jewish culture and was traditionally applied to legal cases, but Jesus elevated it to strengthen the credibility of evangelization. Two disciples witnessing together to the truth of the Gospel would speak with a kind of moral and spiritual authority that mirrored this ancient tradition. Moreover, when we speak in union with the Church and act in concert with other faithful witnesses, our united work of evangelization becomes a harmonious echo of God's Word rather than a solitary voice subject to distortion.Even our Lord Himself respected this principle. When the Pharisees challenged Jesus for speaking on His own authority, He responded, “Even if I do testify on my own behalf, my testimony can be verified… I testify on my behalf and so does the Father who sent me” (cf. John 8:14, 18). Jesus makes clear that He does not speak in isolation; the Father testifies on His behalf. Thus, even the Son, in His earthly mission, models the humility of cooperative testimony.Consider your own duty to testify to the truth of the Gospel. The Twelve whom Jesus had earlier sent represent the bishops of the Church, who form the foundation of Christ's mission through their participation in apostolic succession. In today's Gospel, the seventy-two represent every disciple of Christ, including each of us today. Discipleship is much more than following Jesus through a personal devotion to Him and His teachings. It also includes being sent by Him. Once we receive the Gospel and interiorize it through living faith and prayer, we will then be sent by Christ to go forth and testify to the truth we have received. This is not an option; it's a necessity.How well do you do this? Sometimes we can fall into the trap of thinking that our faith is something personal that we keep to ourselves. But it is not. It must be shared, and if we are disciples, then we are also evangelists.Being an evangelist does not necessarily mean we enter into a full-time apostolate by which we preach and teach as we travel from town to town. For most, evangelization takes place in the ordinary rhythms of life—in our families, workplaces, neighborhoods, and social settings. It means living our faith with authenticity, speaking the truth with charity, and radiating Christ through our actions as well as our words. It means being willing to witness to the Gospel even when it is uncomfortable, unpopular, or rejected, and doing so in union with others in the faith.Reflect today on whether you are testifying to the truth in the way God is asking of you. Have you embraced both the privilege and the responsibility of being sent? Resolve to go forth with the courage of a lamb in the midst of wolves, never alone, but always in communion with Christ and His Church, bearing witness to the Kingdom that is at hand. Sometimes it’s more like delivering a baby, it develops over time. Just because you don’t see immediate change doesn’t mean God isn’t working. Look to God instead of looking at your shame. God convicts us, but He doesn’t shame us. When we turn our eyes toward Him, we’re reminded of His love, acceptance, and help. Pray when you’re desperate. You don’t have to wait until you have it all together to pray. Desperation can be the very thing that drives you to seek God. Take refuge in Him. Don’t just know about God’s goodness. “Taste and see” it for yourself by experiencing His presence and trusting Him in the middle of what you’re facing. Today is the sixth National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, where the country remembers the 150,000 Indigenous kids who were taken from their communities and forced to enrol in Indian Residential Schools. While there, they were subjected to widespread abuse and mistreatment. Thousands died before they could return home. There is a large historical record attesting to this fact. But tens of thousands of survivor testimonies are on track to be destroyed next year. These painful stories were heard and documented as part of the Indian Residential Schools Settlement agreement. Connie Walker is the host of the Pulitzer and Peabody prize winning podcast Stolen: Surviving St. Michaels which looked at her own father's experience at a residential school. She has been working to build a new archive of residential school survivor testimonies.
