Dan Mazer gives us his version of the trials and tribulation of marriage especially in the first year of it. "I Give It A Year" is written and directed by Mazer. I gave it a chance and I did enjoy it and as much as I enjoyed it, I wouldn't say I would do the things these characters do in this film but MAN they do give great performances. I wish I can say the same about the screenplay overall. The characters are much smarter than their decision making but oh well, that's life goes, I GUESS.

In which the Mister joins me in reviewing HOME SWEET HOME ALONE (2021), currently available on Disney +. Directed by Dan Mazer, from a screenplay/story by John Hughes (with the current script attributed to Mikey Day and Streeter Seidell); the film follows the misadventures of Pam and Jeff (Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney) who are forced to sell their home following some hard times. Enter bratty Max (Archie Yates) who through some misunderstandings crosses paths with Jeff and Pam to some disastrous results. At the end, the message of the film is the importance of spending time at home with family at the holidays although not as effectively as the original HOME ALONE film. Our advice - skip this and watch the original one instead. The film has a run time of 1 h 33 m and is rated PG. Please note there are SPOILERS in this review. Tis the season! The guys present their Christmas episode with regular recurring Christmas guest Mariah Lirette as they discuss the Disney Plus Exclusive Home Sweet Home Alone. Does this movie really think that making the 'burglars' into a likeable cute family was the appropriate update for this film? Why does the movie keep forgetting that Jeff is a computer genius when he can't figure out simple mechanics? Why does this movie waste nothing roles on so many talented comedians? And could that Devin Ratray cameo be even MORE embarrassing? Next week: we unlock the Patreon Vault for a special Holiday episode. Writer and director Dan Mazer talks about his long collaboration with Sacha Baron Cohen and the complex storytelling that goes into writing movies with a number of possibilities and outcomes.
In this week's episode, Jon shares stories with co-host Sebastian about his weekend performances in Charlotte, his recent time in a dunking booth, his altercation with the Mayor of Hickory, and his new hot sauce (coming soon)! Then it's time for the "Troll Patrol" as Jon trolls country music singer Toby Keith about his less-than-enthusiastic promotional video for his new album. In "Best Trends", Jon and Sebastian share their thoughts on Simone Biles and her decision to drop out of the Olympics, comparisons to gymnast Kerry Strugg, and they celebrate National Whistleblower Day and National Talk in an Elevator Day. Jon gives away some of his money in "How Much Is That Screen Actors Guild Residual Check?" Four lucky callers selected at random get to guess the amount of one of Jon's EASTBOUND AND DOWN residual checks for a chance to have it signed over to them. In "Who's Zoomin' Who?", Jon welcomes to the show both Dan Mazer, the director (BORAT, BRUNO, DIRTY GRANDPA) and writer Tim Long (THE SIMPSONS, LATE NIGHT WITH DAVID LETTERMAN) of the new film THE EXCHANGE. They share their personal experiences with exchange students and talk about working with Sacha and the Simpsons. Finally, in "Small Town News", Jon shares a story about a woman trying to flee from a crime by the "Redneck Triathalon", using a truck, then a kayak, and then a tractor to escape. It's an Olympic-sized dunk of a show! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Dan Mazer is a British filmmaker who just so happens to be Sacha Baron Cohen's co-producer and co-writer on Da Ali G Show (2000 - 2004), the Borat movies, Bruno (2009) and The Dictator (2012). Yes, if you've seen any of those, you know what you're getting into with Dan. Edgy? Tick. Comedy? Tick. Borderline uncomfortable? Gotcha.Other notable credits include I Give It a Year (2013), Bridget Jones's Baby (2016) and Dirty Grandpa (2016) with Robert De Niro.In this candid interview, Dan offers up some insights into the differences between directing and writing, how to make a film on a small budget (and much larger budgets), as well as providing plenty of useful advice for aspiring writers, directors and filmmakers.Dan's latest directing credit is The Exchange (2021), about an awkward teenager Tim (Ed Oxenbould), who hopes to find friendship with a French exchange student Stéphane (played by Avan Jogia). He discovers that the student is not as sophisticated and cultured as he assumed. Written by Tim Long ("The Simpsons," "Late Show with David Letterman").THE EXCHANGE is out on VOD and Digital July 30, 2021.Presenters: Aiysha Jebali & Millie HaywardVideo Editor, VFX & Artwork: Richard WilliamsAudio Podcast Editor: Juana Rubio

Listen to our full talk at the American Film Market for earlier this month with regular hosts Giles Alderson and Ian Sharp joined by writer, director and producer Dan Mazer to discuss filmmaking on both an indie and studio level. Dan talks about his start in the world of film through his writing for television with Sacha Baron Cohen on Da Ali G Show, how from there he got involved with writing and producing the features Ali G Indahouse, Borat and Bruno. Whilst continuing to write further features Bridget Jones’s Baby and Borat Subsequent Moviefilm, Dan has also directed I Give It a Year, Dirty Grandpa and the upcoming Home Alone - the latter of which was filmed during the current pandemic. Ian and Giles compare their experience on the indie side with Dan’s studio work, discussing how they’ve each managed to get their respective projects off the ground, dealing with financiers and maintaining good relationships with studios, as well as fellow producers and directors. Finally, Dan discusses the strategy of releasing Borat Subsequent Moviefilm on Amazon for on-demand viewing, why the decision was taken and how they used the timing of the global pandemic and the US election to their advantage. The first in our season of films by Alejandro González Iñárritu (the accents are getting a workout this month!) is his 2000 breakout feature film, AMORES PERROS. We talk about differing reactions to the movie (two of them from one person, over 15 years!), the way that its violent themes often inform the way that it's put together, and the essentially very optimistic ending. Next Week The next Iñárritu film is the 2003 follow-up, 21 GRAMS (available on Amazon video: http://amzn.to/2CBrJiP) This Week's Media THE BOY IN THE DRESS (2014): Matt Lipsey, David Walliams, Billy Kennedy DIRTY GRANDPA (2016): Dan Mazer, Robert De Niro, Zac Efron THE GREATEST SHOWMAN (2017): Michael Gracey, Hugh Jackman, Zac Efron Recommendations LA HAINE (1995): Mathieu Kassovitz, Vincent Cassel, Hubert Koundé 200 CIGARETTES (1999): Risa Bramon Garcia, Ben Affleck, Casey Affleck Y TU MAMA TAMBIÉN (2001): Alfonso Cuarón, Maribel Verdú, Gael Garcia Bernal LA MALA EDUCACIÓN (2004): Pedro Almodóvar, Gael Garcia Bernal, Fele Martinez Footnotes Firstly, this week, here's a link to the episode on the predecessor we discuss: http://www.kaiju.fm/prestige/3-08-dodeska-den-1970-and-dreams/. Then, this is an interesting piece on a (previously mentioned) movement to which Rob refers:http://learnaboutfilm.com/soviet-montage. Here are two good articles on the various aspects of film editing covered in Iñárritu's work: https://www.raindance.org/the-6-stages-of-editing-as-a-film-director & https://www.filmcomment.com/article/the-close-up-films-that-changed-filmmaking.
On this week's episode, the gang takes a look at the ridiculous Big Box comedy, Dirty Grandpa! Why did that beach scene need to be so extreme? Do the makers of The Hangover have a case here? And why can't Dirty Grandpa just have sex and be done with it?! PLUS: We dig up a story about an actor's racist Halloween costume that was, indeed, a bad idea. Dirty Grandpa stars Robert De Niro, Zac Efron, Zoey Deutch, Aubrey Plaza, Jason Mantzoukas, Dermot Mulroney, Julianne Hough, Adam Pally, and Danny Glover; directed by Dan Mazer.
We watched Dirty Grandpa and unlike every review out there we actually criticised it instead of just piling shit on it to try and go viral. Robert DeNiro. Oh god. Robert DeNiro. It is directed by Dan Mazer. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Not all marriages are meant to last forever – some of them don't make it to a year. That was the inspiration for the comedy about romance, I Give It A Year by writer/director Dan Mazer. Dan tells host Robin Milling he went to an elaborate wedding where the guests were wagering it wouldn't last past six months, and it didn't. Married in Morocco, Dan is going on eight years with his wife which he says works because they are right for each other. Comedy ensues in the film when Rose Byrne, married to the wrong person, is wooed by the stunning Simon Baker who turns out to be Mr. Very Right. Dan confesses he has a huge man crush on Baker who had everyone on set melting over him. “Simon Baker could turn me! Honestly I had feelings that I never felt before when I would be in the room with him. He is mesmerizing. And the hair is something to behold! As Josh the character says, 'I could drink him in!'” Fellow Aussie Rose Byrne tells Robin she actually grew up mooning over Baker watching him play a heartthrob on Australian soap opera, E Street. In the film she was impressed by his unwavering composure when he wines and dines her and doves are flying everywhere. “He was literally unflappable landing on his head, and I was a mess! Luckily nobody got pooped on but that would've been the least of my worries!” Next Rose reunites with Get Him To The Greek director, starring with Seth Rogen in Townies.
With Mark Lawson. Terry Jones and his son, director Bill Jones, discuss working together on the film A Liar's Autobiography: The Untrue Story of Monty Python's Graham Chapman. Based on recordings made by Chapman, the animated film also includes the voices of fellow Pythons Terry Jones, John Cleese, Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam. Chiwetel Ejiofor talks about his role in Dancing on the Edge, the new TV drama from writer and director Stephen Poliakoff, in which he plays a 1930s jazz band leader. He also reflects on previous roles, which include Othello on stage. The new TV series Being Eileen continues the story of the dysfunctional Lewis family, first seen in the one-off Christmas drama Lapland. Chris Dunkley looks back at the tradition of turning one-off dramas into long-running series. The film I Give It A Year is the directorial debut of Dan Mazer, co-writer of films including Borat and Bruno. Unlike traditional rom-coms, the story unfolds after the wedding, with Rafe Spall and Rose Byrne playing newly-weds battling against a potential break-up. Gaylene Gould gives her verdict. Producer Olivia Skinner.
With regular host Chris Hewitt away on a top secret mission to Los Angeles, Helen O'Hara takes his place in the podcast hosting chair, overseeing a show where reviews editor Ian Freer explains just how star ratings work, The Muppets sequel gets analysed and the week's releases - including Flight and Bullet To The Head - are reviewed. Plus, look forward to a snippet of the longer Denzel Washington and Robert Zemeckis interview and a fresh 15 minutes with I Give It A Year star Rafe Spall and I Give It A Year writer/director Dan Mazer. Just wait until you find out who (or what) a 'Rapscallion' is...
