In partnership with The Women's Fund of Central Ohio, this CMC forum unveils the latest research featuring new data on the critical resources that women in Central Ohio need – and often lack – to build wealth. Women face distinct hurdles in accumulating personal wealth, and the implications are huge: according to the Federal Reserve, closing gender and racial wealth gaps could have expanded Ohio's GDP by a staggering $67 billion from 2005 to 2019. Despite women's substantial contribution to Central Ohio's economy, disaggregated research has been lacking—until now. With a panel of passionate leaders, we discuss these fresh findings and shed light on how women in Central Ohio can overcome barriers to wealth creation. In this enlightening conversation, Richard Hawkes, CEO of the British Asian Trust, delves into the intricacies of British royal charities and the unique challenges of international development work. Hawkes leads an organization founded by His Majesty King Charles III (when he was the Prince of Wales) and an influential group of British Asian business leaders. The British Asian Trust focuses on South Asia—India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka—by partnering with local nonprofits to tackle issues such as education, livelihoods, mental health, and child trafficking. Early in the conversation, Hawkes clarifies that royal patronage is not a financial windfall that magically solves funding challenges. Rather, “He doesn't have a formal legal role in the running of the organization, however, he's hugely interested in what we do,” Hawkes states, emphasizing that King Charles actively engages with and advises the Trust on strategic directions but does not provide direct funding. This level of royal endorsement lends credibility, Hawkes explains, but it also heightens the Trust's sense of responsibility. There is meticulous due diligence in both project selection and donor vetting to uphold the high standards that come with royal patronage. The interview then pivots to the broader context of the UK nonprofit sector, where economic pressures and post-COVID fallout have increased the need for charitable services while simultaneously tightening financial resources. According to Hawkes, these conditions can spur innovative strategies, such as social enterprises and new fundraising models, to address growing demands. One particularly theme is the importance of data-driven impact. Hawkes shares how the British Asian Trust has been pioneering development impact bonds to ensure measurable results: philanthropic funding is disbursed only when certain outcomes—like improved literacy or numeracy—are independently validated. “There's a big difference between wanting to do good and actually doing good,” he says, pointing to the necessity of evidence-based practice. Hawkes also speaks candidly about navigating the colonial history that still shapes realities in South Asia. His organization's approach prioritizes local decision-making, with substantial in-country teams and partnerships that empower communities to identify challenges and co-develop solutions. This model intentionally breaks from any vestiges of paternalistic aid, focusing on true collaboration. You'll gain a nuanced understanding of what it means to be a “royal founding patron charity,” how international nonprofits can respond to social and economic pressures, and why data, evidence, and cultural context are so pivotal to successful interventions. Most importantly, the conversation highlights how passion for social change, guided by strategic collaboration and backed by a dose of rigorous measurement, is the driving force behind the British Asian Trust's sustainable impact in South Asia. Today we have a first on the show… I get to introduce you to a knight! That's right: Sir Darren Jacklin was “Knighted” by His Royal Highness of The Royal Family of Spain on Saturday, June 04, 2022 for his acknowledgment of Global Philanthropy and Entrepreneurship. As you read some of his accomplishments, there's no question why he was considered for knighthood… Sir Darren: - Is committed to raising $100 million dollars for his global philanthropy projects - Is a world-class speaker & corporate trainer who has personally trained over 1 million people - Has rung the closing bell at Nasdaq 3 times in New York City - Has successfully summited the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro — the highest point in Africa at 19,340 feet - Is a multi-millionaire that has served for 10 years as the first Independent board of directors member of eXp World Holdings (Nasdaq: EXPI), a multi billion dollar international real estate company I could go on and on… But what was cool about spending time with Sir Darren was how open and honest he was about his mistakes and struggles on his journey. Despite all of his accomplishments, at one point, Sir Darren was homeless and selling watermelons off the side of the road just to get by. This is a can't miss episode if you're someone that wants to expand your mindset to think WAY bigger from a knight! In this episode of the First Day Podcast, host Bill Stanczykiewicz, Ed.D. is joined by Coco Xiaonan Kou, Managing Director of Research at the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, who discusses the Global Philanthropy Tracker, a comprehensive research project. The Global Philanthropy Tracker aims to understand cross-border philanthropic outflows from 47 countries, covering various stages of economic development. Unlike traditional measures like official development aid, the Global Philanthropy Tracker compares philanthropic giving to other major financial resource flows, highlighting the increasing role of private philanthropy in addressing global societal issues. Coco explains that the Global Philanthropy Tracker's significance lies in its ability to quantify the impact of philanthropy on global development, showcasing its growth over the past decades. Despite challenges such as limited data availability, the research team's collaboration with international partners and thorough data collection methods ensure a holistic picture of cross-border giving. The podcast emphasizes the importance of understanding philanthropy's role alongside government aid, particularly in the face of crises like the COVID-19 pandemic, where philanthropy has shown resilience. Moreover, the podcast discusses the implications of the Global Philanthropy Tracker findings for fundraisers and policymakers. Fundraisers can leverage the report to demonstrate the importance of supporting local initiatives and effective communication with funders. Meanwhile, policymakers can use the Global Philanthropy Tracker to understand the collaborative nature of global philanthropy and design policies to improve the environment for cross-border giving. Coco also calls for contributions from listeners to enhance future iterations of the report, underscoring the ongoing need for data to further understand and support cross-border philanthropy.

From a single-dime store to a global retail empire, the Walton family's journey is nothing short of extraordinary. But do you know how their success translates into philanthropy each year?
Running water. Sanitation systems. Electricity. A car to drive to the store. Enough food to feed your family. These are all things that we've likely taken for granted at one time or another — and they're things that so many in the world live without every day. As part of our Holiday Giving Back Episode series, we talk with the VP of a charitable organization whose mission is to eliminate that level of extreme poverty worldwide. Mark Lutz is the Senior Vice President of Global Philanthropy at Opportunity International. He joined the organization in 1986 and grew private annual revenue from $1 million to more than $40 million. Mark grew up in South Africa with his missionary parents. Living for 20 years under apartheid shaped him to become an advocate for justice. He's also the author of “UnPoverty: Rich Lessons from the Working Poor.” Tune into the full conversation for more on Opportunity International's unique method of making a difference in impoverished people's lives, personal stories from Mark's book that display the valuable lessons he's learned from those living in poverty, success stories from the entrepreneurs Mark's organization has worked with, and a lot more. Here's a Glimpse of What You'll Learn: How growing up in apartheid South Africa was the “germ” that later became Mark's career in the nonprofit world More about the lightbulb moment Mark had in which he realized he could leverage other people's money to fight for justice and an end to poverty The definition of a “micro-loan”, how Opportunity International recipients typically use that kind of loan, and how those small loans snowball into bigger chances at breaking out of poverty Mark shares a story from his book involving a group of women from India and the valuable lessons that they taught him How much Opportunity International money has been loaned out to people in need — and how many individuals have been helped by those What one woman in the Philippines did with a $50 loan and what Mark learned from that story More info about what happens with donations to Opportunity International and how bank partnerships help 10x the impact of those donations Why today's level of poverty can be the next “Berlin Wall” The power of a simple $30 donation The important distinction between giving money and giving a loan, and why that's related to increasing people's dignity Resources Mentioned in This Episode: Opportunity International website UnPoverty.org (Mark's website) “UnPoverty: Rich Lessons from the Working Poor” by Mark Lutz Buy a copy of “Lost at CEO: An Entrepreneur's Guide to Strategy” by Carl J. Climate-focused philanthropy has increased significantly in recent years, but it's still insufficient relative to the size and urgency of the challenge. Randall Kempner is a senior advisor at the Energy and Environment Program of The Aspen Institute, and a global leader in advancing policy solutions for critical issues. He joins me today to discuss why less than two percent of global philanthropy is focused on climate-related giving, while 85 percent of all U.S. foundation funders stated in a recent report that climate change was a top three issue. Nevertheless, only one third reported they were “open to considering funding efforts” to address climate change.
As the Barbie movie hit theaters, waves of people in pink flooded out to watch one of the biggest cultural moments of the year. It was more than just a movie, though; Mattel and Warner Bros. Discovery partnered with one philanthropic partner - Save the Children - to ensure every girl has the confidence to dream.Mattel is a long-time supporter of Save the Children's work and was aligned to collaborate on this unique global cause marketing campaign in the belief that all children need to be equally heard and valued – and that no girl is held back based on her gender. The Barbie movie provided a unique opportunity to galvanize consumers around a movie that speaks to this vision.Unfortunately, many girls develop self-limiting beliefs and stop believing they can be anything as early as six years old. “Barbie” aimed to disrupt gender stereotypes in a way that was empowering, inclusive and inspiring. In today's episode, EFG's Alli Murphy is joined by Dan Peirce, Senior Managing Director of Corporate Partnerships at Save the Children, and Nancy Molenda, Executive Director of the Mattel Children's Foundation & Global Philanthropy at Mattel. In today's episode, we'll explore:Key opportunities for organizations that are partnering on content marketing in global markets – and the unique challenges those types of collaborations require to reach new and more diverse audiencesKey strategies & tactics for rolling out global cause marketing campaignsHow to differentiate philanthropic opportunities from other promotional partnershipsHow to work together to ensure campaign messaging supports the creative vision of the content it supportsWhat made Save the Children the right philanthropic partnerHow Dan & Nancy prioritize their wellbeingThis episode is brought to you by Save the Children.Links & NotesSave the Children's WebsiteDan Peirce's LinkedInMattel's WebsiteNancy Molenda's LinkedInElevate Your Social ImpactCheck out our annual conference!Sign up for Engage for Good's newsletterCheck out past podcast episodesAccess free resourcesCheck out our monthly webinarsLet Alli know what you think of the show! Courtney Falato was used to being on the side of the table asking for money. She had spent much of her career in education research, often seeking out dollars to fund that work. But in early 2020, just as the world changed, she made her way to the other side of the table. She joined JPMorgan Chase as vice president and program officer for global philanthropy, a role in which she oversees grant deployment for Ohio and Kentucky. During a recent conversation for our Women of Influence podcast, Falato talked about the pros and cons of making that shift, as well as the ways JPMorgan Chase's funding interests align with her passions. She also shared insight into how nonprofits can land some of the financial giant's funds.

The following is a conversation with Pamela Shifman of Shake the Table and Nidhi Sahni of Bridgespan, and Denver Frederick, the Host of The Business of Giving. Many feminist movements have achieved their successes with only minimal philanthropic support. In fact, as of 2018, only about 1% of gender-focused international aid was directed to women's rights organizations. Lighting the way is a report for philanthropy on the power and promise of feminist movements. And here to discuss its findings are its two lead authors, Pamela Shifman of Shake the Table and Nidhi Sahni of Bridgespan.

Philanthropy is a form of altruism that consists of “private initiatives, for the public good, focusing on the quality of life”. Philanthropy contrasts with business initiatives, which are private initiatives for private good, focusing on material gain; and with government endeavors, which are public initiatives for the public good, e.g., focusing on the provision of public services. A person who practices philanthropy is a philanthropist. About David Evans He's a senior advisor with UNICEF. He used to be the Chief of Global Philanthropy not only there but also at UBS. He used to be the Head of the private sector at the Global Fund to fight AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/tbcy/support

Anita Kapelke from United Way of Southwest Michigan discusses the upcoming Summer Stock Up local food drive taking place June 15 from 9am-1pm in St. Joseph, Berrien Springs, Lawrence, and Cassopolis, and online at uwsm.org. United Way of Southwest Michigan partners with Michigan United Ways and the Kellogg Company for the second annual Summer Stock Up local food drive Summer Stock Up is a statewide in-person & virtual food drive to stock the shelves of local food banks and pantries during the lean summer months On June 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the public is encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items at: First Church of God, Life Center 2627 Niles Ave., St. Joseph Berrien County Youth Fair, Craft Barn 9122 UW HWY 31, Berrien Springs Lawrence Public Schools, Elementary Gymnasium 714 W. St Joseph Ave., Lawrence Brookside Learning Center 61662 Dailey Rd., Cassopolis In addition to the in-person food drive, UWSM is offering the community the opportunity to donate online at //uwsm.org/summer-stock-up. Having enough food is a basic challenge for so many in Southwest Michigan—especially right now, as food and gas prices and other living expenses are increasing. While we are all feeling the effects of rising inflation, those in poverty-level and ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) households are experiencing it the worst. At least 1 in 8 Michiganders face hunger, and with fewer resources during the summer months, Michigan food banks see an increase of 20% for families seeking food resources between June and August. But access to food isn't the only issue—in 2019, the cost of food represented more than 20% of an ALICE family’s household survival budget. As the cost of food continues to climb, we know these Michiganders would need more than $650 million more per year to meet their food needs. “As we continue to support the needs of ALICE families throughout the state, Summer Stock Up is just one of the many initiatives that addresses the critical need to help ensure our community has access to fresh, healthy food all summer long,” said Anna Murphy, President and CEO of United Way of Southwest Michigan. “With the current rising costs of food today, more Michigan families will need the support of their local food banks and pantries—and based on the success of last year's program, Summer Stock Up has proven to make an incredible impact.” Families with children feel the impact of food insecurity even more profoundly. According to the recent ALICE in Focus: Children Research Brief, as recently as the fall of 2021, 41% of Michigan families below the ALICE threshold with children reported that sometimes or often, “children were not eating enough because we just couldn't afford enough food.” For many kids, when class lets out for the summer, they no longer have access to the nutritious breakfast and lunch they normally receive while in school. “People cannot reach their full potential if they're hungry. Kellogg's Better Days is our promise to advance sustainable and equitable access to food, including feeding 375 million people in need by the end of 2030,” says Stephanie Slingerland, Senior Director, Global Philanthropy and Social Impact at Kellogg Company. “We are proud to stand alongside United Way in a partnership that is focused on our aligned values and creating a positive impact in our communities.” The inaugural Summer Stock Up in 2021 raised more than $63,000 and collected more than 46,000 pounds of food, benefitting 220 food pantries across the state, including in Southwest Michigan. Who benefits? 40 food pantries in Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren counties! Well-meaning Westerners want to find ways to help the less fortunate. Today, many are not just volunteering abroad and donating to international nonprofits but also advancing innovations and launching projects that aim to be socially transformative. However, often these activities are not efficient ways of helping others, and too many projects cause more harm than good. Reimagining Global Philanthropy shares the journey of a conservative banker and a progressive professor to find a better way forward. Kirk S. Bowman and Jon R. Wilcox explain the boom in the global compassion industry, revealing the incentives that produce inefficient practices and poor outcomes. Instead of supporting start-up projects with long-shot hopes for success, they argue, we can dramatically improve results by empowering local leaders. Applying lessons from the success of community banks, Bowman and Wilcox develop and implement a new model that significantly raises philanthropic efficacy. Their straightforward and rigorously tested approach calls for community members to take the lead while outside partners play a supporting role. Bowman and Wilcox recount how they tested the model in Brazil, demonstrating the value of giving people in marginalized communities the opportunity to innovate. In a time of widespread social reckoning, this book shows how global philanthropy can confront its blind spots and failures in order to achieve truly transformative outcomes. Readers can access five of the documentary films discussed in the book on a companion website. In addition to the films, chapter discussion questions and other supplemental materials are also available at the site.
Thank you to Maggi Alexander for leading our November 9th Empower Women Event, Establishing Year End Philanthropic Goals. Many donors struggle with being “an inch deep and a mile wide” in their giving and aspire to develop a coherent, strategic plan and a clear sense of the legacy they wish to leave to their communities and families. However, they may not know how or feel rushed at the end of the year to make quick decisions about donations. This workshop aimed to help participants better define their goals for philanthropy, uncover their deepest interests and passions, and begin the process of zeroing in on a focus and structure for their giving that provides both meaning and impact. Participants left the program with renewed sense of purpose and practical tools for getting from here to there. Maggi Alexander is a Partner at TPI and directs TPI's Center for Global Philanthropy. In this role, she supports individuals and families, foundations, and corporations in aligning their philanthropy with their values in ways that are more strategic. An entrepreneurial leader, Maggi has spent over 30 years focused on philanthropy to improve the quality of life for low-income children, families, and communities in the United States and over 30 countries worldwide. She has extensive experience building partnerships and alliances that cut across traditional divides and has worked in the corporate, philanthropic, nonprofit, and public sectors. Maggi's experience in organizational development spans the early start-up process to achieving scale and sustainability; she is passionate about turning great ideas into reality. Global Philanthropy — "...stakeholders, not just shareholders." Colleen Ebbitt (J.P. Morgan | Vice President for Global Philanthropy EMEA) Colleen and I met in 2019 and I walked away so impressed with her work and remarkable views of the world; her brief bio below speaks for itself. In this conversation we covered so much; her history and JP Morgan's philanthropical efforts in South Africa (not many folks know that they're behind several high profile initiatives over here). I pushed Colleen on her BREXIT work, angles on inclusive economic growth versus capitalism, social enterprises, definition of 'value' and we covered the philosophical (and controversial) aspects of philanthropy. A casual chat that surfaces her fascinating posits. What a privilege to spend this time interviewing another incredible woman making a global impact! Enjoy! P.S. The book mentioned can be found via the link below. Colleen Ebbitt has oversight for philanthropic grants supporting more inclusive economic growth in South Africa, Switzerland, Sweden and Turkey. Colleen joined from the UK Government’s Inclusive Economy Unit where she was a Senior Policy Advisor specializing in innovative social finance and social enterprises. Colleen was also on temporary assignment as team lead in EU Exit data management as well as EU strategy. She spent 9 years as a Vice President private banker at J.P. Morgan in Switzerland and the United States managing wealth for individuals and family offices. She was a 2015 LGT Impact Ventures Fellow working on strategic growth initiatives for a sub-Saharan African maternal HIV/AIDS charity, mothers2mothers, based in South Africa. Colleen is a frequent public speaker and champion for impact investment and gender empowerment. Tifany Boyles is the Director of Global Philanthropy at Street Business School, where she leads philanthropic partnerships, thought leadership, and stakeholder engagement. Their goal is to scale their entrepreneur training and self-efficacy programs through a social franchise model to ignite the potential in 1 million women globally. She previously worked with corporate foundations and multilateral NGOs, like the Western Union Foundation and UNICEF, to foster an environment in which women and children can achieve equality. Tifany holds a Bachelor's Degree from Pepperdine University and a Master's Degree in Philanthropic Studies from the IU Lilly School of Philanthropy. She's also certified in Women's International Health and Human Rights through the Stanford Center for Social Innovation. In this episode… Philanthropic professionals worry about asking for something without giving anything in return. Tifany Boyles has a little more to add to this, believing that you're already giving so much in return. You're giving philanthropists a way to put their values into action because they have the resources to act but lack the conduit to realize their beliefs. You have the channel to achieve their ideas, but you need the funds. For Tifany, it's a match made in heaven and one of the many reasons she loves philanthropy. Because of this match, the Director of Global Philanthropy at Street Business School believes that nonprofit staff should feel incredible gratitude to the donors. Likewise, donors should be grateful for the organizations that create change and manifest their beliefs by channeling their resources. In this episode of the Philanthropy212 Podcast with Penny Cowden, Tifany Boyles, the Director of Global Philanthropy at Street Business School, talks about falling in love with philanthropy. She shares her thoughts on the power of philanthropy, how people are showing up to help during times of scarcity, why fundraising staff should fall in love with philanthropy, and more.

What is the role of philanthropy during a global health crisis? How do funders respond to a constantly shifting social sector? In the face of complex and uncertain environmental conditions, how are philanthropic groups working to ensure that their practices are both effective and sustainable? For all of the challenges that the COVID-19 pandemic has presented trust-based philanthropic organizations, it can also be said that the same organizations are using the current climate to reimagine their philanthropic formula for themselves as well as their grantees. In this episode of the Counterpod, Emily Wexler, associate director of Counterpart's Social Sector Accelerator, speaks with Solome Lemma of the funder collaborative Thousand Currents, to discuss how the group's purpose has responded in the face of today's global crises.

Money. Power. Knowledge. Health. Education. When you look around the world, when it comes to resources and opportunities, there are massive imbalances between countries and even inside countries. Even in a strong economy, not everyone has access to jobs that pay well. And sometimes there are disconnects between the skills employers need and the training people receive. One way cities are tackling this challenge is through their local workforce system: a network of services, organizations, and programs that work to support job seekers, current workers, and employers. Host Justin Milner talks with Urban researcher Amanda Briggs, Atlanta CareerRise founder Cinda Herndon-King, and JPMorgan Chase’s head of Workforce Initiatives, Global Philanthropy, Jennie Sparandara about how local leaders, philanthropists, and researchers are driving change through workforce systems. *STARTS 30 SECS IN I have been studying conspiracy theories of all sorts for 15 years or so now. While many individual theories may be bogus, misrepresented or embellished, in this episode I discuss the biggest conspiracy theory of them all: The One World Collectivist Government. Is it really true that there are a core group of power hungry elites working towards complete control of all land, resources and people on the earth? Is the earth actually some kind of farm, and are these infamous elites simply the human management team? Since the Trump election, the rise of professor Jordan Peterson, and the intense focus on issues such as cultural marxism, mass migration, the SJW movement, the "regressive left", socialism, neo-feminism, the economy, the recent censorship campaigns across social media etc, I have noticed that many people are looking into these issues in isolation and are simply not aware of where all of this originates from. Many people are trained to scoff at the idea of there being a criminal conspiracy of any kind. Why is this? Perhaps there is no conspiracy to rule the world. Perhaps there is. Let's have a look shall we? On the show, Megan, Karen, and Joe discuss: How did you land on ‘standing up for others’ as your signature cause focus? Was this a new cause area for Hasbro or familiar territory? Who are your nonprofit partners in this endeavor and what role do they play in activating it? Explain to us how you expanded the program in 2017? How are you engaging employees? Consumers? What are your hopes and expectations for the program in the coming year? How does this effort help Hasbro generate business so it can sustain this valuable effort? What would you say to others who are considering launching a signature cause program? Links & Notes Be Fearless Be Kind
Today’s guest is Colleen Briggs, Executive Director for Community Innovation and Corporate Responsibility at JPMorgan Chase. Colleen leads a visionary effort that is part of JPM’s commitment to building “more inclusive growth,” globally, by finding innovative models that build financial access and economic expansion. Our timing is great because just last week, the Center for Financial Services Innovation announced its new class of winners for the Financial Solutions Lab competition. The Finlab is funded by a $30 million, five-year commitment from JPMorgan that Colleen oversees, aimed at finding, supporting, and scaling innovative ways to promote consumer financial health. This is part of a $1 billion program that the bank has undertaken globally. Here is a link to the JPMorgan press release on this year’s competition, which includes an overview of the winners, and here is a further article by the American Banker. Colleen comes to this work from a diverse background at nonprofits, on Capitol Hill, and now in the private sector, searching for better solutions for lower-income financial consumers. In listening to her, I was struck by the degree to which she has her finger on the pulse of the trends underway, both globally and in the U.S. She shares insights on how to make it profitable to serve low income customers; how to win the trust of consumers who are wary of digital products; on the failures of traditional financial education; on the primacy of behaviorally-based product design; on the need for new business models; on how to build partnerships between banks, fintechs and community organizations; on how innovative cultures can take root in big banks; on platforms that can get new solutions to scale; on the business opportunity for banks -- and their corporate customers -- from building global inclusion; on mixing high tech and high touch and the limits of automation; and on how to shift the whole marketplace. She has wise advice for all the players. Since we recorded this episode, I’ve become the board chair at CFSI. Last week we held the Emerge Forum in Orlando, where a record audience talked about exciting new ideas for financial health. There was huge enthusiasm there about the new Finlab winners. In a sign of the maturing of the fintech startup world, three companies in this year’s class are reaching beyond the typical millennial customer base and instead building new tools for seniors. Watch for their progress. Here are my other podcasts with the Finlab and past winners Digit, Ascend, and Bee. Stuck in a rut, Leon Logothetis left his office job to travel the world, giving people free rides in a broken-down English taxi-cab, riding a vintage motorbike around the world, and following a fellow traveler through India without ever knowing where he was going. Along the way, he learned a few things about life and the human spirit. The wisest words he heard, and the greatest lessons he learned, came from everyday people he met on his travels. He became their accidental student, and after years of sharing those lessons through TV shows, college tours, books, and in the media, he realized that he had also become an accidental teacher. His experiences are more than a collection of stories, they have become a way of life—the Way of the Traveler. What is the Way of the Traveler? It's a roadmap to living your best life, loving with all your heart, and exploring the world. You will learn profound exercises to help you uncover your true path.

The Estée Lauder Companies, working through its MAC’s VIVA GLAM Lipstick, has become one of the leading funders in the fight against HIV/AIDS around the world, donating over $350 million total over 20 years reaching over $40 million per year recently. Nancy Mahon, Senior Vice President, Global Philanthropy and Corporate Citizenship, explains the company’s passion for working so diligently to end AIDS, “We can only end AIDS if we test and treat everyone at risk of and actually infected with HIV. As only half of the people in the world who need HIV testing and treatment can get it, and funding for the epidemic is declining… we desperately need corporation’s business acumen and resources — including the ability to market and sell ideas — to tackle the world’s biggest problems, including ending AIDS.” “The people behind many corporations are incredibly skilled at defining and efficiently solving many of the key business and resourcing issues, which also stand in the way of issues like equitable access to medical care.,” she continues. “While science has now made it possible to end AIDS, it’ll only become a reality if we get a realistic and achievable business plan in place,” she concludes.
