What does "in the end" mean when it comes to Mary's famous line at Fatima "In the end My Heart will triumph"?  This is a talk I gave for LifeSite News in Italy at their “Rome forum conference.”

One of the legacies of the Holy roman empire is that Germany does not have just one place where everything happens, where politicians, entrepreneurs, bankers, artists, and actors travel on the same underground trains and eat at the same restaurants. Berlin is the capital with its political class of members of the Bundestag, journalists and lobbyist and at the same time a major gathering place for artists, musicians and thespians of all stripes and home to many tech startups. But the bankers are in Frankfurt, the headquarters of the major companies are in Stuttgart, Munich, Düsseldorf and spread around everywhere. Several of the major publishing houses are in Hamburg, the private TV stations in Munich, but none of these places have a monopoly on any of these activities. There are banks headquartered in Munich and major corporates in Frankfurt, there is great theater in Düsseldorf, Dresden and Schwerin, there are world leading companies headquartered in tiny towns like Künzelsau.And that cuts through to the major cultural sites. Though the quip that there were 365 states in the Holy Roman empire is vastly exaggerated, there were once a hundred capital cities, from splendid Dresden to tiny Hohenzollern-Hechingen, each with its princely residence, cathedral, grand monastery and theater. The great artists either travelled from court to court, leaving behind their works here or there, or stayed in one of the free imperial cities, operating large workshops.Therefore what you cannot do in Germany is to go to one city and see all the major treasures the country has “collected” over the centuries, as you can do in the Louvre or the British Museum and the National Gallery. In Germany you have to move around, see one thing at the time, always in the knowledge that its significant counterpart is a few hundred miles north, south, east or west of you. This is one of the legacies of the medieval empire that Germany has in common with Italy.And hence we are going through each of the Bundesländer trying to pick out one absolute must-see and one place where you are likely to encounter fewer people. And as we have covered 9 Bundesländer up to Mecklenburg-Vorpommern already, the next location we will have to get to is Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany's most populous state.

She received her MFA in Printmaking from the University of Hawai'i at Mānoa in 2018, and her BFA in Drawing from Ball State University in 2013. She moved to Brooklyn in the summer of 2018 and works in East Williamsburg. Terra's work featured in publications such as Hyperallergic, The Art Newspaper, and Oxford American Arts as well as in permanent institutional collections in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Hawaii, and California. She's had solo shows at Field Projects, Sweet Lorraine, the Honolul Museum of Art amongst other venues and group shows at Maia COntemporary, Here to Sunday, Immaterial Porjects and many others. Terra is a founding member of the international artist collective GRRIC Contemporary, an experimental art space, happening, omnipotence. In 2017 she co-curated the show “Afterschool Special” at the Honolulu Museum of Art and several shows through the GRRIC Contemporary Art Gallery in Honolulu. Terra also co-hosts the comedy podcast “Witch, Yes!” which seeks the humor and humanity of the occult, folklore, and witchcraft in its relationship to history, identity and contemporary politics.

We had a simple plan, get a little lifted, fire up Gran Turismo, and pretend we're professional drivers with absolutely zero professional consequences. Power is fun until physics clocks you in the jaw.Then we hit a surprisingly wholesome moment. I share a Christmas dinner story where grandma is openly talking about gummies helping her sleep, feel calmer, and just handle life better after losing her husband. That's the kind of cannabis story that sneaks up on you, not hype, just relief.Back to the race, we're dialing in wheel settings like stoned pit crew engineers, and the game literally warns that force feedback can cause shocks. Last episode we described how in Paris there was a party like atmosphere, the dreamy, giddy glow of it, how it sucked in the later arrivals.  The immense joy they all wallowed in.   Part of the peace settlement allowed France to keep all the looted art they had taken from all over Europe.  And I've mentioned this before, but the allied leaders saw the Louvre for the first time.  And were suitably impressed.  They all believed that this was the appropriate way to do public art.  Many in the allied delegations went to the Louvre daily.But there were more difficult and thornier issues to settle in Vienna.There were massive issues in Germany, Poland, Italy, the Iberian Peninsula, and Latin America (would they stay independent, would they go back? could they go back?), the low countries and Switzerland and island colonies all over the world.  And how were they going to decide these issues, There was a mix of brutal great power politics for many decisions and high-minded principles used for most analysis.  The interplay between these modes of operation would prove fascinating to later generations.

The team started with energy and enthusiasm, but within a month, something shifted. People stopped showing up for daily stand-ups. Cameras went dark during meetings. Engagement in retrospectives withered. This wasn't just about being distributed—plenty of teams work across time zones successfully. The problem ran deeper. The Scrum Master had a conflict of interest, serving dual roles as both facilitator and engineer. Team members were simultaneously juggling three or four other projects, treating this work as just another item on an impossibly long list. Steve spent a couple of months watching the deterioration before recognizing the root cause: there was no leadership sponsorship or buy-in. Stakeholders weren't invested. The team wasn't actually a team—they were individuals happening to work on the same project. Steve considers this a failure because he couldn't solve it. Sometimes, the absence of organizational support creates an unsolvable puzzle. Today's 2 topics: - Astronomers have yet to discover any long lasting natural object, beside our Moon, which orbits the Earth, however, occasionally, a small space rock enters into a temporary dance with our home planet.   - My Catalina Sky Survey teammate Greg Leonard was asteroid hunting in the constellation of Hydra with our Schmidt telescope on Mt. Bigelow, Arizona when a fast moving unknown point of light passed through a set of his images. After Greg reported his observations to the Minor Planet Center for the next 10 days it was tracked by observatories in Arizona, Italy, Hawaii, Australia, and Argentina.  Citizen scientist H. A. Güler analyzed these data. The Minor Planet Center published the discovery of the near Earth asteroid 2018 CN41.
