It's not often Suncorp's CMO Mim Haysom is mentioned in the same conversation as Leonardo da Vinci but the latter's rare ability to combine creative and analytical thinking is what 50 Australian CMOs working with WPP were briefed on recently as the next frontier for business growth and their own professional cred and advancement. Indeed, Marc de Swaan Arons, a former Unilever marketer who co-founded the non-profit Institute for Real Growth [IRG]  - backed globally by Google, Meta, WPP and Tata Consulting - says there's a ‘massive opportunity' for marketers to increase influence and impact with executive leadership colleagues via ‘humanised growth'. How? In this instance, it's by customer-minded marketing bosses offering their strategy and insights nous to help build out divisional and all-of-company stakeholder-employee management blueprints and programs. It may seem fanciful and foreign to already stretched marketing remits but a new global study by IRG across 450 CEOs, CFOs, CMOs and HR leads suggests the notion would be welcomed by company leaders and seen as a credibility enhancer for marketers - if they don't turn it into a land grab on colleagues. Suncorp's Haysom and Piedmont Healthcare's CMO Douwe Bergsma (US) are already front-running the trend, says de Swaan Arons, who also injects some cool pragmatism into the ESG, DE&I and purpose programs often championed by marketing teams. He cites the raging success and subsequent reality check for marketers working on Dove's acclaimed Campaign for Real Beauty rollout in 2004 - within two years of that launch, it was in trouble. Purpose had usurped product development. Here's more from de Swaan Arons and the Institute for Real Growth's new study.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Break 1: MOG – Peggy Slappy   STORY 1: Fire Officials Say Business Fire in Lawrenceville Was Arson A business fire in Lawrenceville earlier this week has been confirmed as arson, according to Gwinnett fire investigators. The incident occurred at 553 Seaboard Industrial Drive NE, where multiple work vehicles owned by Ernst Concrete, a concrete company, were found burning. The fire did not extend to any structures, and firefighters brought it under control at 3:08 a.m. No injuries were reported. Fire investigators, in collaboration with local and federal law enforcement agencies, are conducting a joint investigation. Authorities encourage anyone with information to contact the Gwinnett County Fire Investigations Section or the Georgia Arson Control Hotline, with a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for arson.     STORY 2: Volunteers Say Gwinnett Sheriff's Office Has Put Jail Dogs Program On 'Hiatus Indefinitely' The Gwinnett Jail Dogs Program, which has been rehabilitating inmates through dog care for over a decade, is ending as the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office puts the program on "hiatus." The program pairs inmates with dogs for care, contributing to both the animals' rescue and inmates' rehabilitation. The Sheriff's Office decision, focusing on expanding the mental health program, leaves Jail Dogs officials seeking homes for four dogs paired with inmates. They are urgently seeking Gwinnett residents to provide foster homes for the dogs. Established in 2010, the program has rescued thousands of animals from euthanasia, providing both training and purpose to inmate handlers.   STORY 3: Gwinnett Schools Still Facing Discipline Disparities As Issues in Elementary Schools Rise A presentation on student discipline in Gwinnett County Public Schools revealed an increase in issues involving younger students, particularly in grades kindergarten through 2. Discipline is up on average during the first quarter of this school year compared to last year, with a spike in frequency and severity of behaviors in elementary school students. The update also highlighted disproportionately higher numbers of Black and Hispanic students facing "exclusionary" discipline. The district aims to address these issues through community partnerships, targeted interventions in elementary schools, restorative practices training, social and emotional learning training, family engagement strategies, social worker supports, and mental health and wrap-around supports.   We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We'll be right back   Break 2: Glow Light Show – TOM WAGES – DTL   STORY 4: Can you travel with medical marijuana or CBD gummies? Airlines, cruise ships have rules A Texas woman claims she was banned for life from Carnival cruises for attempting to board a ship in Miami with CBD gummies. While CBD is legal in Florida, cruise lines, including Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Carnival, Virgin, and Disney, prohibit it on board. The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) notes that marijuana and certain cannabis-infused products, including some CBD oil, remain illegal under federal law. However, products with less than 0.3% THC on a dry weight basis are an exception. Travelers are advised to check local regulations at their destination, and TSA officers may involve law enforcement if they find marijuana or illegal drugs during security screening.   STORY 5: Lilburn-based Kittle Homes recognized for homebuilder excellence Kittle Homes, based in Lilburn, received two Gold OBIE Awards for townhome design at the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association's annual OBIE awards gala. The awards, presented by the Atlanta Sales and Marketing Council, recognized Kittle Homes in the Best Building Design categories for townhomes in the price ranges of $300,000 to $399,999 and $400,000 to $499,999. Madison Trace in Lawrenceville, offering low-maintenance, high-luxury townhomes, and The Preserve at Killian Hill in Lilburn, featuring luxury townhomes close to nature and urban amenities, were praised for their design excellence. Kittle Homes, a family-owned business with nearly 75 years of experience, expressed gratitude for the awards, emphasizing their commitment to exceeding homebuyers' expectations.   We'll be back in a moment   Break 3: JACKSON EMC - ESOG - INGLES 2   STORY 6: How You Can Help The Salvation Army of Gwinnett This Christmas Season The Salvation Army of Gwinnett County is hosting its annual Angel Tree program, offering an opportunity to support those in need during the Christmas season. Approximately 2,000 angels are available for adoption, providing an avenue for community members to contribute. Interested participants can adopt an angel by visiting the Angel Tree website, stopping by The Salvation Army of Gwinnett County, or emailing a request. All gifts must be dropped off at The Salvation Army of Gwinnett by December 1. Captain Analese Ryerson expressed gratitude for the community's generosity in providing a happy Christmas to those facing difficulties.     STORY 7: 'Red, Blue and You' Celebration Draws Largest Crowd to Date The annual Red, Blue and You celebration in Gwinnett, honoring first responders, experienced its largest attendance yet with around 600 people at the Buford Arena. Organized by Raymer Sale, the event aimed to express gratitude to first responders for their service to Gwinnett County citizens. Gwinnett County Commission Chairwoman Nicole Love Hendrickson and representatives from Piedmont Healthcare and the Northside Hospital Foundation spoke at the event. Lawrenceville Police Chief John Mullin recognized officers involved in a collision during a car chase. Additionally, Amy and Cliff Bray, who lost their home in a fire, were acknowledged. The win puts Walton through to the quarterfinals, where they will host Parkview. Walton head coach Bruce Wade was full of praise for both teams, saying that it was unfortunate that they had been matched up against each other so early in the tournament. Despite the loss, Mill Creek head coach Stephen George was proud of his team's season and what they had achieved. Voters in Cobb County, Georgia trickled into the South Cobb Regional Library on Tuesday to elect a mayor and four council members for Cobb's newest and largest city. However, some voters eligible to vote in the District 3 runoff did not have the contest on their ballot, an issue that is currently being investigated by elections officials. Although early voting last week saw 2,741 people cast their ballot in-person, as of 4:20 p.m. on Election Day, only around 1,800 people had voted. Some voters expressed concerns over the lack of information about the new city and how it will work, as well as the need for the new government to listen to its citizens. The School of Health Sciences at Georgia Highlands College recently hosted an Evidence-Based Practice Symposium, where second-year students in the Nursing and Dental Hygiene programs presented research posters focused on medical treatments and practices aimed at improving patient outcomes. Evidence-Based Practice, which involves reviewing and analyzing scientific evidence, is considered a cornerstone of clinical practice. The symposium provided an opportunity for students to share their research with peers and healthcare partners. Nursing students presented research on a variety of topics, including decreasing delirium in patients, while Dental Hygiene students presented on topics such as using virtual reality to alleviate dental anxiety. Habitat for Humanity of NW Metro Atlanta and Genuine Parts, a Cobb County-based full house sponsor, started their second home build of the year on April 15. After working as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Piedmont Healthcare for 15 years, Artavia is excited to move to a larger home in a neighborhood where her family can spend time outdoors, which they don't feel comfortable doing in their current apartment. Genuine Parts Company Director of Employee & Community Relations, Venitia Smith, said they engage their employees in volunteer opportunities to fulfill the company's commitment to local communities. The Georgia Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of Joseph Priester for the murder of Genaro Rojas-Martinez at a Smyrna gas station in 2017. Priester had appealed to the court after being found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without parole. Priester's lawyers argued that the trial court improperly admitted evidence that Priester had robbed someone and shot at their car the day before the murder, but the Supreme Court ruled that the evidence against Priester was strong enough to convict him without it. Priester was identified through surveillance footage, cell phone records, and possession of the car seen at the scene of the crime. #CobbCounty #Georgia #LocalNews      -            -            -            -            -            The Marietta Daily Journal Podcast is local news for Marietta, Kennesaw, Smyrna, and all of Cobb County.             Subscribe today, so you don't miss an episode! MDJOnline            Register Here for your essential digital news.            https://www.chattahoocheetech.edu/  https://cuofga.org/ https://www.esogrepair.com/ https://www.drakerealty.com/           Find additional episodes of the MDJ Podcast here.             This Podcast was produced and published for the Marietta Daily Journal and MDJ Online by BG Ad Group   For more information be sure to visit https://www.bgpodcastnetwork.com          See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

As the COVID-19 vaccine has been made available, we consider the racial inequities and historical mistreatment of Black and Brown communities in research and within the health care system. Suffice it to say, that relationship has been somewhat tenuous over the years. In this special episode of This Is Community, Danny Shoy, President and CEO of the East Lake Foundation, facilitates a Facebook live conversation about the COVID-19 vaccine with Dr. Jayne Morgan, Clinical Director of the Covid Taskforce for Piedmont Healthcare in Atlanta. Thanks for tuning in as Dr. Morgan answers some of the most pressing questions and concerns about the vaccine. It is our hope this conversation about the COVID-19 vaccine helps create awareness intentionally through a racial equity and social justice lens.

Marketing's Role Amid COVID-19When COVID-19 first hit, the first thing we did was focus on the safety of our staff and community. All of our messaging both internal and external informed people of safety measures to take, the seriousness of the virus, etc.Once the cases started to go down the first time, we were one of the first areas to reopen. Our message changed to “it's safe to come back to the hospital” and “Don't delay your needed care.”We also pushed for virtual visits.Today, it's a combination of the two messages as numbers have gone up again. The message is, “Be safe, but don't delay your needed care.”Truly, it's a lot of trial and error. We recognized that we would fail throughout this, but we must fail fast and keep moving forward. While the situation is horrible, these times have caused us to scrap everything and start new. This time has allowed us the opportunity to show leadership our effort's connection to direct revenue. It's a clean slate to test marketing efforts and show why marketing is important for not only times like this, but in all times.Hospital leaders are now turning to marketing to help fill volumes and revenue. This is our chance to show people what we can do. Leveraging Data and ToolsWe've leveraged Salesforce capabilities like other leading brands in other industries I've worked in, which is not typical to a health system or hospital. We've created lead lists for physicians, implemented lead scoring, and leveraged email, in-person visits, and local executives across different campuses. We have a weekly survey that goes out to patients to get real-time and location-relevant patient sentiment about how the public feels about returning to the hospital. They use this data not only to adjust messaging, but to show their physicians so that they can be aware of how to approach each visit in a way that matches the consumer sentiment. Proving ValueThe Piedmont marketing team has leaned into the idea and have proven we are a revenue-generating function, not a cost center or service partner. Now more than ever, if you aren't showing that you drive volumes and revenue, you will only ever be viewed as a cost center. In all other places I've worked (i.e. Southwest), marketing is seen as revenue drivers. In hospitals and health systems, marketing typically looks like a cost center that spits out bio cards and newsletters. But in reality, that's not why we exist. I'm showing our executives what marketing is doing to bring in money. It's rewriting the story of our role. It should be tied to the numbers, not the bio cards (which we'll still get done, but it's not what we are known for). Tying Efforts to DollarsBecause COVID-19 caused a complete stop on all of our prior marketing efforts, we were given a blank slate to tie our efforts to dollars. We have nothing else out in the market. So when we send an email, and there's a drastic jump in volume behavior, we can tie it straight to that. We're in a unique time where we did nothing else that day other than that email, so we know it is what caused the jump in appointments. And if you can prove it multiple times, there's less questioning beyond that and, therefore, more ability to do more without question moving forward. We also share data all the time — so leadership knows what works, but also what doesn't work. Maintaining FocusRight now, we have to be solely focused on things that bring in volume and revenue. We cut 170+ sponsorship deals due to COVID-19. But not one person complained about it. They understood. We have to be good stewards of our patient's money.

The Association of Black Cardiologists (ABC) recently held an event with Black community leaders in downtown Atlanta. They were joined by a panel of medical professionals and community leaders and the discussion centered on the disparities in health care for African Americas including the lack of access when it comes to cardiovascular-related issues. African American participation in cardiovascular-based clinicals was identified as a critical factor toward improved health. The group at this workshop—both medical professionals and community leaders—agreed that access to healthcare information and clinical trials is key moving forward. Why? Well, for starters, Dr. Jayne Morgan, a cardiologist with Piedmont Healthcare, declared that their profession is not doing enough to secure approval for Blacks. Morgan and others firmly believe that clinical research as a care option—access to clinical trials in community settings within African American districts in cities such as Atlanta, for example, can better ensure that Blacks receive the best medical care—that is, “maximal care.” She went on to declare, “Clinical trials, especially cardiology and oncology, that can potentially add precious years to your life go unaccessed by members of our community.” You can find Dr. Jayne Morgan here and here

The opioid crisis is a perfect example of a few bad apples spoil the bunch.  The United States medical community as a whole bears much responsibility in creating our current national opioid crisis.  In most cases doctors were unknowingly contributing to the problem of over prescribing pain medication to their patients.  The medical community was sold a bag of lies from the drug manufacturer starting with Oxycontin.  Now they are working hard to clean up the mess which impacts us all. In this episode our own Dr. Garrison of Piedmont Healthcare sheds some light on the science of Opioid addiction.  He gives us some insight on how and why doctors choose what medications to prescribe to their patients. This interview is part of our HIMSS18 coverage. We'll be talking with thought leaders and vendors all week at the annual Health Information Management Society conference in Las Vegas. On this episode we talk with Travis Moore, SVP of Market Solutions at Kyruus and Matt Gove, Chief Consumer Officer at Piedmont Healthcare, about provider data and patient access. We discuss how to address provider data inconsistencies across systems so that you can enable a better patient experience. Topics include: Self-scheduling and why your patients are ready for it Call-center scheduling Doctor-to-doctor referrals and in-office scheduling Why at Piedmont Quick Care Retail Clinics in Walgreens more than 50% of the volume is booked online. The big take away for me is that patients are ready for online scheduling and they want to be seen on their own terms. This is evident in Piedmont's high online booking rates, a preference to have a scheduled time even at walk-in retail clinics and in how millennials seem to be embracing asynchronous telemedicine options. About Travis Moore, SVP of Market Solutions at Kyruus Travis Moore is Senior Vice President of Market Solutions at Kyruus, where he is responsible for working with existing, and future clients, to provide them with insight into how the Kyruus platform can be used to improve patient access. Prior to joining Kyruus, Travis was with Influence Health for 12 years – starting his career as a Sales Account Executive, then transitioning into the Director of Sales role, and later becoming the VP of their Sales / Product Specialty team. Additionally at Influence Health, Travis was VP of Product Management and Strategy before eventually focusing on the clinical aspects of the business as the SVP of Clinical Solutions and Sales. Prior to Influence Health, Travis was responsible for Product Management over the patient education and nursing solutions at Truven. Travis started his career in healthcare as a Pediatric Nurse on the Neurotrauma and Orthopedic unit at Children's Hospital in Denver, CO. Travis has his Bachelor's degree in Nursing from University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and MBA from University of Phoenix-Denver. Twitter: https://twitter.com/tmoore634RN LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/travis-moore-mba-rn-4651b11/ About Matt Gove, Chief Consumer Officer at Piedmont Healthcare Matt Gove is Chief Consumer Officer for Atlanta-based Piedmont Healthcare, where he oversees marketing, communications, patient experience, community benefit and government relations for the seven-hospital system. As Piedmont's Chief Consumer Officer, Matt shapes the system's approach to healthcare consumerism, working closely with physician practices, hospitals and outpatient services to provide a better understanding of Piedmont's customers, how to better meet the consumer's needs around access and experience, and how the system can best use emerging technologies to engage consumers. Under Matt's leadership, the Piedmont team has won more than three dozen local and national marketing awards since 2013, and he has been individually recognized as AMA/Atlanta Corporate Marketer of the Year and American Business Awards Marketing Executive of the Year. Twitter: https://twitter.com/gove LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/mattgove3/ About Kyruus Kyruus delivers proven provider search and scheduling solutions that help hospitals and health systems match patients with the providers best suited to care for them. The ProviderMatch suite of solutions—for consumers, access centers, and referral networks—enables a consistent patient experience across multiple points of access, while aligning provider supply with patient demand. The company's proprietary provider data management platform forms the foundation of its solutions, powering them with accurate data by coupling data processing with administrative applications.
