Miniaturen der 1980er- und 1990er-Jahre. Was hat die Leute damals beschäftigt? Wie haben sie kommuniziert? Was wurde verschwiegen?

In this episode, Dr. Sunjya Schweig—an expert in complex chronic illnesses—speaks about the first responder health program he devised for the Berkeley Fire Department. Exposure to extreme stressors leaves first responders prone to many health risks themselves. To date, the top two killers within this profession are cancer and suicide. Recognizing the need to help first responders with their physical and mental health, Dr. Schweig built a program that follows many of the best practices we use at our clinic. Hear what gut health, nutrition, stress management, and sleep techniques can help improve overall health. Simply put, autoimmune diseases—like rheumatoid arthritis, celiac sprue, inflammatory bowel, type 1 diabetes, Hashimoto's, Graves', lupus, fibromyalgia, and so many more—are conditions where the body's immune system attacks its own tissues rather than a foreign molecule like bacteria. Like many states emerging from oppressive political rule, Taiwan saw a cultural explosion in the late 1980s, when nearly four decades of martial law under the Chinese Nationalist Party ended. As members of a multicultural, multilingual society with a complex history of migration and colonization, Taiwanese people entered this moment of political transformation eager to tell their stories and grapple with their identities. In Renegade Rhymes: Rap Music, Narrative, and Knowledge in Taiwan (U Chicago Press, 2022), ethnomusicologist Meredith Schweig shows how rap music has become a powerful tool in the post-authoritarian period for both exploring and producing new knowledge about the ethnic, cultural, and political history of Taiwan. Schweig draws on extensive ethnographic fieldwork, taking readers to concert venues, music video sets, scenes of protest, and more to show how early MCs from marginalized ethnic groups infused rap with important aspects of their own local languages, music, and narrative traditions. Aiming their critiques at the educational system and a neoliberal economy, new generations of rappers have used the art form to nurture associational bonds and rehearse rituals of democratic citizenship, making a new kind of sense out of their complicated present. Meredith Schweig is assistant professor of ethnomusicology at Emory. Her research explores twentieth- and twenty-first-century popular musics of East Asia, with a particular emphasis on narrative, gender, and cultural politics in post-authoritarian Taiwan. Li-Ping Chen is Postdoctoral Scholar and Teaching Fellow in the East Asian Studies Center at the University of Southern California. Her research interests include literary translingualism, diaspora, and nativism in Sinophone, inter-Asian, and transpacific contexts. Learn more about your ad choices.

He understood that nutrition, training, sleep, steps, macros all played a key role in helping him build his own unique lifestyle fitness solution. He realised that his lifestyle needed a huge adjustment, which might seem rather daunting if you are a one-man team. But he wasn't alone. With the world-class team of experts with decades of experience who'd worked with 1000s of individuals across the world to support him, he was in good hands! And with this guidance from the RNT coaching team, Adam set the ball rolling and is absolutely smashing his results. He now looks and feels at his best and in his own words, which you'll come to hear shortly, he says: “RNT is great for anyone that is looking for long-term results, not a quick-fix. It's about creating lifestyle changes and learning how to adjust mindsets that you never thought possible. It's not going to be easy at times, but the learnings are invaluable.” If you'd like to read Adam's case study, check out the link in the show notes. Jenn speaks to Meredith Schweig, a Harvard PhD, Fulbright Scholar, and assistant professor of ethnomusicology at Emory University. Meredith talks about the field of ethnomusicology, her interest in East Asia which led her to focus her research on Taiwanese popular music and coincidently marry her best friend, Andres a Taiwanese American. She shares the many challenging encounters she has had from a childhood accident that left her with a vision disorder that she has always felt uncomfortable speaking up about, to enduring a long-distance marriage, pregnancy journey, to the loss of her parents right before the pandemic hit. How her fear of flying and learning to develop a strategy has helped her manage the different spheres she encounters in her life. (Recorded on August 5, 2021)About Meredith:Meredith Schweig's research explores twentieth- and twenty-first-century popular musics of East Asia, with a particular emphasis on narrativity, gender, and cultural politics in post-authoritarian Taiwan. She completed her MA and PhD in ethnomusicology at Harvard University, where she also received her BA in Music and East Asian Studies. An assistant professor of ethnomusicology at Emory, she is currently completing a book about Taiwan's vibrant rap scene. Her second book project refracts questions about vocality, agency, and transmedia storytelling through a study of global pop icon Teresa Teng. She maintains additional research interests in sensory studies, migration studies, disability studies, history of art and architecture, and the museology/musicology nexus. The RappersRenegade Rhymes: Rap, Music, Narrative, and Knowledge in Taiwan
Pitcher This! Podcast: Manufacturing & CPG Stories with Darren Fox
Anna Schweig is the Co-founder of Big Thorn Farm & Brewery, an off-the-grid farmhouse brewery located in Georgetown, Illinois. She founded the solar power-focused operation with her husband, Aaron, in 2016. Together, Anna and Aaron brought their experience from breweries and restaurants to create their own unique, 15-acre farm location. Branching off from the brewery are two bars, The Greenhouse Bar and The Tree Bar, which both offer a distinct outdoor drinking environment. In this episode… Creating a great drink is important, but what's equally as important is creating a memorable experience. While the drink will be the same, the context, location, and story can fundamentally shift how a consumer feels about what you have to offer. Many breweries are happy to distribute their beer for all kinds of consumption—others choose to create something more specific. Off the road and out of sight is Big Thorn Farm & Brewery in Vermilion County, Illinois. The brewery is set on 15 acres of farmland, matching the rustic and rooted approach to the drinks themselves. Big Thorn uses solar power and older methods of brewing, creating a more sustainable process for making ales and lagers. The act of visiting is half the enjoyment for Big Thorn, and now they share how they did it all. In this episode of the Pitcher This! Podcast, Darren Fox sits down with Anna Schweig, Co-founder of Big Thorn Farm & Brewery, to talk about her unique approach to brewing and how she and her husband created a distinct experience. They go over her early days of homebrewing and how they used their background in the industry to start their venture. They then touch on topics such as marketing, product experience, and how they choose their food and drinks.

Deal-making is off to a strong start in 2021, and private equity continues to play a large part in that equation. Private equity firms have long been attracted to distribution and, for some distributors, selling part or all of their companies to private equity is an attractive exit strategy.John Schweig, Chairman of the Board at BlackHawk Industrial and Operating Partner at private equity firm Snow Phipps, joined hosts Ian Heller and Jonathan Bein for a peek under the covers of how these firms evaluate distributors, from people and processes to market opportunities. Schweig was previously President of Grainger International and Chief Strategy Officer for Grainger and was the former Chairman of both Board of Kele, Inc. and Service Champ.

Bhagavad Gita - Dr. Graham Schweig Smithsonian Associates, Art Of Living Series... Welcome to The Not Old Better Show. I'm Paul Vogelzang, and this is episode #500 As part of our Smithsonian Associates streaming series, our guest today is Dr. Graham Schweig. Dr. Graham Schweig will be appearing via Zoom at the Smithsonian Associates program titled The Bhagavad Gita: Ancient Wisdom for Today's World. For details about Dr. Schweig's presentation, please check out our web site. Today we'll be talking about After the Bible and the Quran, the Bhagavad Gita is the most beloved of sacred texts in the world. Graham M. Schweig, a professor of religion at Christopher Newport University and published translator of the Bhagavad Gita, illuminates some of the exquisite passages in this Hindu philosophical poem and examines their rich narrative context. He provides an overview of the story behind the text, its major themes, and reveals how a work created around the 2nd century A.D. poignantly addresses the universal problems of the human condition: the intrinsically conflicted soul and the mix of happiness and suffering, goodness and evil, and beauty and horror the world holds. These dichotomies are symbolized by the dilemma of the protagonist Arjuna, whose heart is shattered as he is about to engage in a battle against the evil that also pits him against those he loves. Experience how the Bhagavad Gita's timeless voice of wisdom and compassion can speak to the challenges of the modern world. My thanks to Dr. Graham Schweig, who'll be appearing at the Smithsonian Associates Tuesday, December 8, 2020 - 6:30 p.m. ET, and the title of his presentation is The Bhagavad Gita: Ancient Wisdom for Today's World. …please check out our web site for more details. My thanks, too, to the Smithsonian Associates team for all they do to support the show. And, of course, my thanks to you, my wonderful Not Old Better Show audience, now with me for 500 shows! Again, this is episode 500! Thanks again to you all for your love, support, and now friendship. Stay safe, be well, practice smart social distancing, and remember, let's talk about better.

--- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/annette-wieners/message

Painter Amy Schweig was trained at Washington University. She left St. Louis for life in an artists colony in the East.In the 1930's she returned to Missouri and started an artist colony in Ste. Genevieve. Other residents included Joe jones and Thomas Hart Benton. Their work was extraordinary."They are all of local subjects and so these artists are painting things that they saw around them in St. Louis and in rural Missouri and places like Ste. Genevieve so its really top quality art. It really depicts things that reflect our history as residents of the St. Louis region and of Missouri." said Dr. Robert Archibald.Eventually the Ste. Genevieve colony faded. But the artists including Aimee Schweig continued to delight the world with their view of the world.Aimee Schweig continued to paint commissioned portraits and give private lessons. But she also spent 20 years teaching art at Mary Institute. She died in 1987 at the age of 90.
