Melinda Shepherdson's sense of adventure has led her up mountains, down rivers, and across the world. Her long list of travel destinations is impressive, but what Melinda cares about most on these adventures is her connection with nature. The outdoors provides her with regulation, energy, positivity, and helps to calm her ADHD mind–all benefits she knew she had to share with others when starting a business.    In the last few years, Melinda discovered the Adventure Bush Therapy space and partnered with an experienced outdoor education specialist to create small group programs for children, including autistic individuals and those with ADHD, anxiety, and intellectual disabilities. The work allows her to combine her passion for nature with her desire to help children and the results are pretty incredible.    Join my conversation with Melinda to hear her personal ADHD journey, what her travels have taught her, how she was able to pivot from occupational therapy into the career she has today, the differences in medication when you have ADHD vs. AuDHD, and so much more.  Resources: Website:        Email: ot@inmotu.com.au           Video of a beautiful song our women's choir sang - definitely worth a look. The moment you all know that I've been planning, hoping, waiting for since we started this podcast over four years ago! For any who many not know (though nearly all of you will) Richard is the creator of the Ultima series of video games. His company, Origin (and he as well) created the world's first officially titled MMORPG (Richard actually coined the phrase!) Ultima Online! We talk about the recently discovered Endurance Shipwreck, and Shackleton being one of Richard's heroes. Seriously. This episode is just GOLD for me and Nick, and we hope you all enjoy it as much as we did talking to Richard! In 2015 Canadian Geographic recognized Ray as one of Canada's Top Explorers. Youth Ambassadors are selected from around the world, and then participate, at no cost, in all aspects of the expedition, from logistics and running to creating educational content and team support. All of the i2P Youth Expeditions have included various challenge based initiatives through an Experiential Learning Program, in which thousands of students participate as active ‘team members' during the expeditions, from classrooms all over the world. This program and its technology is also provided at no cost to the students or schools participating. Since its inception, i2P Youth Expeditions have included 14 gruelling expeditions; Baffin Island, Tunisia, the Amazon, Bolivia, India, Botswana, Utah, Peru, Chile, Italy, California, Greece, Death Valley and Canada. Global Leadership Coaching:  A fascinating journey into coaching and consulting for a speech language therapist and world explorer.   My guest this episode is Fiona Fraser, who is a leadership coach from Scotland, who currently lives in Chile.  She shares her fascinating story of how she came to find herself working as a coach and consultant, after spending years in Chile working with NGOs as a speech and language specialist working with deaf children and preteens.  She soon found herself spending more and more time being asked deep questions from leaders about their teams and organizational culture.  With her background in psychology and neuroscience, she began to connect the dots with leadership needs and challenges and began to study in-depth the coaching profession.  She describes her training and practice in ontological coaching and its connection to her expertise in neuroscience.  We discuss how the concept of neuroplasticity is really about hope; that our brains can change, that we can grow and develop healthier habits.  She shares some of her insights from working with clients from across the globe.

Willkommen an Bord unserer nickoSPIRIT.

Dr. Tamie J. Jovanelly is an Associate Professor of Geology at Berry College. Classically trained as a hydrologist, she has completed water quality assessments on five continents to make comparisons between developed, undeveloped, and developing countries and their relationships to local watersheds.  Tamie grew up in Detroit in a working class family that had little ambition to go anywhere. Her brother ignited her spirit of adventure at the age of 10 by taking her for rides on the back of his motorcycle. By getting to explore the local area this encouraged and inspired Tamie to dream of travelling further afield. She accomplished this by pursing a career in academics, with a focus on Geology. Tamie has gone on to lead and run research expeditions all over the world. Tamie’s first venture to Iceland was in 2006 when Iceland was still off the radar of most tourists. With the keys to a Toyota Yaris and a series of paper road maps, she and her older brother circled the island in 11 days. Over the course of the next decade she would visit nearly every summer, bringing with her keen undergraduate students who could keep up with the hiking! Tamie has been told on several occasions by various people at different stages of her career that she doesn’t fit the mould of a scientist. However, this negatively doesn’t stop Tamie from going after her goals and following her passions. She lives by the mantra - Winners Do More. During this podcast, Tamie will share more about her career, the challenges she has faced, how she plans and why she breaks her life down into 6 months sections. Using the metaphor of a World Explorer, Monica takes you inside her hands-on, gamified playshop to explore the beauty, awe, marvels, and dangers of the seven levels of successful gamification. You'll learn how to plan for your journey and pack wisely to make every item count. This week we continue and explore to more of the seven continents on our journey, and about keeping score and how the game is played. Level 3: Jungle Standoff – How are you keeping score? How will you know the gamification program you put in place is driving the behaviors you need in order to meet your business objectives? What are the KPIs or benchmarks you will use to measure progress? Define the business metrics or quantifiable output indicators on the basis of achieving your business objective. Decide what numbers you must hit in order for your gamification program to be deemed successful. Dangers in the Jungle: Don't record and measure everything Don't produce numerous and complicated reports and dashboards Don't count behaviors that don't matter - focus on those that drive business objectives Level 4: Saharan Crossing – How is the game played? Determine the desired actions you want your players to do. What do you want to improve and identify the particular behaviors that have the potential to drive the greatest benefit to your program? Can you build on any of their existing habits? Dangers in the Desert: Don't develop a list of behaviors to drive and then fail to track and measure Don't gamify a behavior that doesn't actually provide value to your players Beware of Unintended Consequences Keep an eye out for unintended consequences - once you are able to measure the behaviors you want to gamify, you must watch out for the unintended consequences of each of these behaviors. Cheating is one of the most common unintended consequences of gamification so remember to build in stop points. About Your Host: A gamification speaker and designer, Monica Cornetti is rated as the #1 Gamification Guru in the world by UK-based Leaderboarded.
