"Het zijn nogal dingen die ze schrijft", vindt Bas van Sluis, journalist bij Dagblad van het Noorden. Van Sluis meent dat ook de uitgeverij de feiten van fictie had moeten scheiden. "Toen ik het hoorde, dacht ik: misschien heeft de uitgever het wel verzonnen dat het zo in elkaar zit. Als het zo'n rel wordt, kwadrateert het aantal bioscoopbezoekers en boekenkopers", reageert journalist Frénk van der Linden. Volgens Roline de Wilde, directeur van de Kindertelefoon, was het al een 'heel onwaarschijnlijk' verhaal. "Dat niemand dat checkt, vind ik verbazingwekkend."
