In het Groningse Meerstad werd gisternacht een 53-jarig echtpaar dood aangetroffen in hun woning. De politie heeft de minderjarige dochter van het echtpaar als verdachte aangehouden. La homilía de hoy es de Mateo, capítulo 5, versos 13 a 16.En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús nos dirige unas palabras sencillas, pero profundamente exigentes: “Ustedes son la sal de la tierra… ustedes son la luz del mundo.”La sal y la luz no existen para sí mismas. La sal da sabor y preserva. La luz ilumina y orienta. Así debe ser la vida del cristiano.En un mundo donde a menudo hay indiferencia, violencia, división y pérdida de esperanza, Jesús nos recuerda que nuestra fe no puede esconderse. Un verdadero discípulo transforma el ambiente donde vive: en la familia, en el trabajo, en la parroquia y en la comunidad.La sal, cuando pierde su sabor, ya no sirve. También nuestra fe puede volverse “sin sabor” cuando se vive solo de apariencia, cuando dejamos de orar, cuando olvidamos la caridad, cuando nos acostumbramos al Evangelio sin ponerlo en práctica.Y Jesús también dice: “No se enciende una lámpara para esconderla.” La luz de Cristo que recibimos en el Bautismo no es para guardarla, sino para compartirla. Muchas veces una palabra de consuelo, un gesto de perdón, una visita a un enfermo, una ayuda silenciosa, pueden ser una verdadera luz para alguien que vive en oscuridad.Este mensaje me hace pensar en mi tía, Rosy, fallecida hace dos años. Siempre que la visitaba, la encontraba con personas que se le habían acercado para pedirle consulta sobre diversas situaciones de sus vidas. Y ella, con la combinación de la sabiduría humana y el espíritu de Jesús, los escuchaba, les consolaba y, con palabras muy positivas, sinceras y sabias, les acompañaba y les aconsejaba. Siempre pensaba que ella, como laica comprometida, como luz y sal, llegaba a muchas más personas que yo como sacerdote. Y como a mi tía Rosy, he visto a muchas, muchas personas que son figuras concretas de la presencia de Jesús entre nosotros. El Señor no nos pide hacer cosas extraordinarias, sino vivir de manera auténtica y coherente. La santidad muchas veces se manifiesta en lo pequeño: en la paciencia, en la escucha, en la bondad, en la honestidad, en la fidelidad diaria.Que al ver nuestras buenas obras, otros puedan glorificar al Padre del cielo. Es decir, que nuestra vida lleve a otros a acercarse más a Dios.Pidamos hoy al Señor que nunca perdamos el sabor del Evangelio y que nuestra luz no se apague. Que, con humildad y amor, podamos ser sal que da esperanza y luz que guía hacia Cristo. Amén.

Rather than focusing on patterns, formations, or rehearsed movements, their academy is built around developing players who can recognize situations, make decisions, and solve problems independently. It is a philosophy rooted in principles rather than prescriptions. One of the most thought-provoking ideas from the discussion was the belief that technique should never be separated from decision-making. Bas describes football as a constant cycle of taking information, making a decision, executing an action, and evaluating the outcome. As a result, much of FC Twente's training takes place through games rather than isolated drills, ensuring players are continually exposed to the realities of football. Even their youth development pathway reflects this approach, with younger players focusing on individual principles before gradually progressing towards more complex tactical understanding. The conversation also explored player development beyond the training ground, including managing late developers, individual development plans, parent education, and building an academy culture that prioritizes long-term growth. We have not a Scrum team, but a factory." — Maria Skvortsova   Maria's current challenge is one that many Scrum Masters will recognize: a large distributed team — 17 people, cameras always off, only four months together — that operates like a factory instead of a collaborative unit. In refinement sessions, only the Tech Lead, BAs, and QA speak. Everyone else stays silent. When the sprint starts, developers wait for the Tech Lead to assign stories, work on them in isolation, then toss them over the wall to QA with a "not my problem" attitude. Maria and Vasco explored this challenge through a coaching conversation, identifying information loss as the core issue. Every handoff between developer and tester destroys knowledge and slows the process. Maria had already introduced desk testing — pairing a developer with a QA before deployment to walk through the code on the developer's machine. It worked well in previous teams, but this team keeps forgetting, and in a recent retrospective they even proposed creating a "handover to QA" subtask — the exact opposite of what Maria is trying to build. What happens after the BAS project is "done" often determines whether the system actually performs over the next 10 years. Too many projects reach substantial completion only to fall apart because documentation is incomplete, alarms are ignored, operators are left unsupported, or nobody knows who owns what after turnover. If you work in building automation, project closeout is where long-term system value is either protected or lost. This month's guest is Billy Thursfield, Bam sub-agent for the British Antarctic Survey (BAS), who joined us from Rothera Research Station in Antarctica. He has spent seven seasons living and working on infrastructure projects on the southernmost continent. He told NCE news editor Lee Kenny about the aims of the wider Antarctic Infrastructure Modernisation Programme (AIMP), the partnerships involved in delivering it and the role of British Antarctic Survey (Bas) as a client. His early seasons were focused on the wharf works, dealing with the many engineering and logistical challenges of operating in Antarctica. More recently, he has worked alongside teams in Scotland and Cambridge, supporting delivery alongside Hugh Broughton Architects, Ramboll, Sweco and the Bas team. He discussed his work at Rothera and detailed the Discovery Building project to replace a number of ageing buildings with one centralised modern facility. He talked about how the building has evolved over the different construction seasons, from enabling works and earthworks, through to steel erection, fit-out and commissioning, as well as off-site manufacture and sustainability. He discussed the pre-mobilisation process and the amount of preparation involved before engineers are deployed to Antarctica, especially around health, wellbeing and the practical and psychological challenges of being away from home for extended periods. Lastly, he described how he spends his time outside of work and the experience of living in one of the world's most extreme environments.
