Episode 3234: Stefanie Bonastia compassionately unpacks the hidden tensions between dieting, body image, and true well-being, challenging the idea that weight loss and food freedom can coexist. She offers a powerful reframe: instead of chasing control, we can cultivate lasting health by nurturing peace with food, honoring our bodies, and redefining what “healthy” really means on our own terms. Read along with the original article(s) here: https://jessikneeland.com/post/can-i-pursue-weight-loss-too/ Quotes to ponder: "You can find ways to move your body that feel fun and invigorating, or calming and grounding." "Healing your relationship with food is not the same as losing weight, and in fact they work in opposition to one another." "Our biology has no concept of thinness as a value system, it is simply concerned with survival." Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Most conversations about longevity focus on tactics. This episode breaks down the biology underneath them. You'll hear a systems level analysis of how insulin signaling, mTOR, mitochondrial function, inflammation, and nutrient sensing interact to determine biological age, disease risk, and long term human performance. This is not surface level biohacking. It is a deep dive into the mechanisms that actually control aging, metabolism, muscle preservation, and brain optimization, and why most anti aging strategies fail when they ignore these foundations. This all-time classic episode from 2024, has host Dave Asprey joined by Mark Hyman, a practicing physician and one of the most respected leaders in functional medicine. Dr. Hyman is the founder and senior advisor of The UltraWellnessCenter, the founder and former head of strategy and innovation at the Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine, and a long time advocate for treating root causes instead of managing disease. With over 30 years of clinical experience, his work focuses on restoring mitochondrial health, optimizing metabolism, reversing chronic disease, and slowing biological aging using science backed interventions. Together, Dave and Mark dismantle common myths around protein, carnivore diets, ketosis, fasting, supplements, and longevity drugs. They explain why sugar accelerates aging faster than protein, how mTOR must cycle instead of staying suppressed, and why muscle, mitochondria, and metabolic flexibility matter more than calorie restriction. The conversation also covers nootropics, sleep optimization, neuroplasticity, AI driven diagnostics, and how functional medicine reframes aging as a reversible biological process rather than an inevitable decline. You'll learn: • How insulin and nutrient sensing control aging speed • Why mitochondria sit at the center of longevity and disease • The truth about mTOR, fasting, and protein intake • How ketosis and metabolic flexibility protect long term health • Where supplements and nootropics actually fit in brain optimization • Why functional medicine outperforms symptom based care • How AI and advanced testing are reshaping modern medicine Thank you to our sponsors! - MASA Chips | Go to https://www.masachips.com/DAVEASPREY and use code DAVEASPREY for 25% off your first order. -ARMRA | Go to https://tryarmra.com/ and use the code DAVE to get 15% off your first order. -OneSkin | Try OneSkin for 15% off with code DAVE at https://www.oneskin.co/DAVE. Each episode delivers cutting-edge insights in health, performance, neuroscience, supplements, nutrition, biohacking, emotional intelligence, and conscious living. After 20+ years of focusing on health, you might think we'd have it all figured out. But the truth is, the best gains still come from small, strategic tweaks - not dramatic overhauls. In Part 1 of our annual Five Factors Year in Review, we explore why structured intensity beats "just go hard" training, how mobility might be the unlocking factor you're ignoring, and why the simple nutrition habit of 30 grams of protein before 9am can transform your consistency. You'll discover why the Five Factors aren't independent pillars but ingredients in a stew - when you adjust one, you have to rebalance everything else. We break down the essential 20% across all five factors that deliver 80% of the results, and why going deeper into any single area actually works against you. This is about continuous refinement, not arriving at perfection.

In this episode, I'm joined by the incredible Dr. Sarah Ballantyne for one of the most grounded, science-driven conversations I've had about nutrition in a long time. We talk about why diet culture keeps swinging between extremes, how nutrient density gets lost in food ideology, and what actually matters when it comes to protein, plants, gut health, and long-term health outcomes. Sarah breaks down why restrictive frameworks often backfire, how to evaluate food quality without fear, and what the research really says, not what performs best on social media. This conversation is for anyone who wants to eat in a way that supports performance, longevity, and metabolic health without turning food into a moral identity. We cover: Why nutrient density matters more than diet labels The dangers of nutrition dogma and "one right way" thinking Protein needs, plant foods, and dietary diversity Gut health, fiber, and microbial resilience How to evaluate nutrition advice critically Moving from restriction to sufficiency Dr. Sarah's Instagram Nutrivore 90 Challenge For the high-achieving hot girls that want to recover better, support glowier skin, and promote longevity through better cellular health, get 20% off your first order of Mitopure and make wellness easier than ever. Steve began his career in the HALO sector serendipitously—thanks to a chance encounter in a Wyoming bar—Roderick talks about how his love for athletics fueled his vision to elevate community health and wellness. From building the Ridge from the ground up to navigating the constantly evolving landscape of Bozeman, he reflects on the importance of creating a multi-generational, welcoming environment, his strategies for growth, and the value of relationships—both inside the club and across the industry. Whether you're an entrepreneur, an operator, or a passionate member of the HALO sector, Steve's story is packed with insights on building culture, driving community impact, and staying ahead through collaboration. When it comes to the secret of building out a great team Roderick jokes, "If you're gonna run a business, the thing you need to do is hire people smarter than you. And I said, 'Well, that's gonna be easy!'" Key themes discussed Origins and evolution of Ridge Athletic. Strategic location and real estate development. Building brand equity and community presence. Facility design and member demo. Growth of Bozeman and regional opportunities. Creating strong company culture and staff retention. Importance of networking and industry learning. A Few Key Takeaways: 1.Building from the Ground Up and Taking Risks: Roderick got his (very) unexpected start in the fitness club business when he was literally handed the keys to a 30,000 square foot facility in Wyoming that was going out of business. He didn't know much about running a gym but dove in, learned quickly, and eventually built his own fitness center from scratch in Bozeman. 2. The Importance of Location and Vision: When developing Ridge Athletic, Steve chose a piece of land on the outskirts of Bozeman, trusting that the community would eventually grow around the facility. Over time, his vision proved spot-on, with Bozeman's expansion making The Ridge a hub of activity and fitness in the center of town. 3. Community and Brand Equity: Maintaining both a main facility and a satellite downtown location allowed The Ridge to reach diverse demographics and reinforce its presence. Steve recognized the value of building relationships in the business district while also expanding with a larger, flagship facility. 4. Creating a Welcoming Culture for Staff and Members: A key to The Ridge's success is the positive, team-driven culture Steve built for both employees and members. He focuses on hiring people who are passionate and smarter than himself, fostering an environment where staff feel respected and motivated, which translates to a better experience for members. 5. Catering to All Ages and Building for the Future: The Ridge is intentionally inclusive, offering programs and spaces for everyone—from children to seniors. He emphasizes that creating meaningful programming for kids encourages family memberships and helps foster lifelong fitness habits. He also stresses the need for continued professional growth and industry connection, citing the value of mastermind groups like REX Roundtable. A former broadcaster turned software developer based in Dunedin, Brendan describes a lifelong struggle with weight, the shame and “try harder” messaging, and the moment he realised the issue wasn't a character flaw—it was the advice. After being pointed toward Professor Tim Noakes and a low-carb approach, Brendan ran a deliberate self-experiment: change the food first, track the results, and let hunger be the guide. The payoff wasn't just the scale—it was satiety, routine, confidence, and a practical framework for staying the course when life (and “eat normal”) pressure shows up.Highlights / topics coveredWhy “eat less, move more” failed him—and what shifted when the food changed firstThe early wins: scales, clothing fit, and appetite finally calming down“Success over compliance”: choosing what works over what's orthodoxBuilding guardrails: simple routines, fewer decisions, and sustainable structureNavigating social pressure, setbacks, and the long game of metabolic health Contact Mikki:https://mikkiwilliden.com/https://www.facebook.com/mikkiwillidennutritionhttps://www.instagram.com/mikkiwilliden/https://linktr.ee/mikkiwilliden

Who's ready for a great show this week?! I'm so fired up--the kids are home, Christmas is in the air, and today's episode is all about designing your most epic year yet — 2026. This is Part 2 of our Annual Strategic Planning Series. Last week we reflected on 2025. This week, we look forward to 2026 and make a decision about who we are becoming, what we are creating, and how we will achieve maximum success and fulfillment. In this episode, I walk you through: How to intentionally design 2026, instead of letting it happen by accident. Why choosing your ONE WORD for the year is a non-negotiable. The shift from what you need to do to who you must become. How raising your daily standards changes everything. We also talk about how I'm personally structuring my year and why fewer, clearer priorities lead to more focus and fulfillment. We dive into practical frameworks, including: Creating daily non-negotiables, as winners don't negotiate with themselves. Building a calendar that reflects your true priorities. Avoiding and eliminating energy leaks and distractions that drain your momentum. Upgrading your environment, your inputs, and the people around you. Installing weekly and quarterly review systems so you fall to your systems, not your excuses. Lastly, I want to challenge you with "10" powerful questions that will frame your entire 2026 year, including: What would a 10-out-of-10 year in 2026 look like? Who must I become to deserve the life I say I want? What habits must be installed, eliminated, or reinforced? What am I willing to say 'no' to so I can say 'yes' to living my best life? Where do I need more discipline—and where do I need more grace? What would my future-self thank me for if I started this habit or action-step today? This episode is a coaching session, a mindset reset, and a call to action as we head into the holidays. Let's be sure to slow down. Breathe. Relax. Pray on your vision. And commit to designing your 2026 year with deep purpose and conviction. If this episode hit home, please share it with a friend, teammate, or family member. Send us a text if you want to be on the Podcast & explain why!Say hello to Tilo at coach.tiloWhat if your most valuable product isn't another hour-long session, but a community that people can't wait to join? Today we sit down with a former PE teacher who turned a neighbor's question into a thriving training business, then pushed beyond the ceiling of in-person hours to build scalable income without sacrificing family time. From the first $90 session to confidently charging premium rates in an affluent market, we get into the real math: exact client counts, monthly revenue targets, and the systems that make sessions repeatable, effective, and worth every dollar. We dig into pricing strategy the way clients actually experience it—clear value, annual increases, retainers that stabilize cash flow, and the honest post-mortem when someone says no. We challenge the myth of overnight online riches and offer a grounded path: LinkedIn for lead gen, Trainerize for delivery, and coaching that sells outcomes, not app access. The heart of the episode is the Parlay Club, a clever blend of step goals, workouts, and point-doubling sports picks that turns accountability into a game. It's sticky, social, and scalable—especially once it moves to a searchable Facebook group, adds tiers, rewards referrals, and features guest experts to deepen engagement.Parent-trainers will feel seen. We talk about seasons of ambition, designing a perfect week before you sell it, and using the 11–2 midday window to build leverage instead of filling it with low-yield sessions. For coaches working with youth athletes, we map a route to clinics, partnerships, and grant-funded programs, and explain how a credential like the CSCS opens doors with athletic directors. The throughline is focus: avoid the octopus problem of too many projects and choose one lane to push hard for a defined period, supported by precise KPIs and a community that keeps you honest. If you're ready to raise your rates, protect your time, and build something that grows while you're with your kids, this conversation hands you a playbook you can start using today. Social anxiety is not a personality flaw, it is your nervous system doing its job a little too loudly. In this episode, we reframe awkwardness and self-consciousness as signals of alert, not evidence that something is wrong with you. If holiday parties, crowded rooms, or feeling “on” leave you tense and overthinking, this conversation will help you understand what is actually happening in your body. I walk you through seven gentle, practical tools designed to give your nervous system cues of safety so you can stay grounded and present. These are not mindset tricks or confidence hacks, they are body-based resets you can use in real time. You will learn how to quickly orient to the present moment, regulate your breath, and take micro breaks without disappearing. We talk about why food or drinks often become a coping tool in social settings and how to expand your options without judgment or restriction. You will also learn how to prepare simple connection cues so conversations feel less draining. This episode emphasizes choice, permission, and self-trust rather than forcing yourself to push through discomfort. Even using one of these tools can shift how safe your body feels. Confidence is not about being calm all the time, it is about knowing how to support yourself when you are activated. If you want to feel more at ease socially without changing who you are, this episode is for you. Send us a textThis episode of The Anthony Amen Show is different — Anthony is the one in the hot seat.In a raw, unfiltered interview, Anthony breaks down what it actually takes to move from coach to entrepreneur, and why most fitness professionals never make the jump. We talk about the unglamorous realities behind building a real business: learning to love numbers and systems, deciding whether you're an operator or a hobbyist, and using long-term thinking to design a life that doesn't collapse under success.Anthony shares how his passion for coaching evolved into building scalable machines that help more people — and how that shift demanded emotional regulation, better habits, and uncomfortable risk. The conversation covers season-of-life decisions, including when to keep a 9–5 while building at night, when asymmetric upside justifies going all-in, and how to apply “gym logic” to business growth. It gets personal. Anthony opens up about losing friendships, rebuilding his relationship with the woman who became his wife, and learning how proximity, environment, and ownership shape outcomes — in business and in life. This episode is for:Fitness professionals who want more than trading hours for dollarsEntrepreneurs balancing ambition with relationshipsAnyone building something meaningful who feels the weight of responsibilityIf you're trying to scale without burning out — or wondering what the real cost of growth looks like — this conversation gives you frameworks, not fluff.Subscribe to The Anthony Amen Show for grounded conversations on fitness, business, leadership, and life.
