Label: Atco 7079Year: 1977Condition: M-Last Price: $18.00. Not currently available for sale.Dave Marsh was right-on when pinning this rock classic at #159 in his list of the 1,001 greatest singles of Rock'n'Soul. As he says in explaining his choice, ["Solsbury Hill" is] Rock's greatest resignation speech... one of the most nakedly emotional records anyone's created in the past [forty] years. What's perhaps just as extraordinary is that... "Solsbury Hill" encapsulates the next decade or so of Peter Gabriel's career. This is a record that makes bold promises and if its power has grown over the years (and it started out powerful enough), it's not only because it offers such strong inspiration whenever you need to summon the courage to make a tough move yourself. It's because Gabriel has lent it further resonance with every move he's made. Couldn't have said it better myself! ;-) By the way, this 45 version is specially edited from a longer (4:20) album track. Note: This beautiful copy comes in a vintage Atco Records factory sleeve. It has pristine Mint sound.

Me habla de Aquel que me "Conoce mejor que yo a mí mismo" (Better Than I Know Myself 1982).

Curtis and Aaron Vaughn came up with the idea for this podcast. The concept for this podcast is to give information and opinions about ten songs each month that may fly under the radar for most listeners of music. Also, we will play a snippet of each song and ask the listener to comment to us through one of our social media outlets so we can get different opinions on what you think about these songs and what they mean to you. The opinions of the music selected are only the opinions of Aaron and Curtis and may not reflect what the artist had in mind. They believe that is the beauty of music. It can mean so many different things to so many different people.  In short, Curtis came up with this quote to describe the show: “Sharing the joy of music in hopes of bringing back old memories or helping listeners discover unfamiliar artists, bands, or songs that they might want to look further into. At the same time, helping out Veterans and their families with donations along the way."Songs for this month are:1. Awake - Shot Baker2. Atlantis - Donovan3. Ole Pal - The Steel Woods4. Well… we certainly didn't expect that. We didn't expect to be talking to Peter Gabriel's niece. We didn't expect her to actually be living beside Solsbury Hill. We didn't think we'd be talking about all that much about Ben Folgle and the Animal Park show broadcast from her hometown of Bath. We didn't think we we'd be talking that much about drugs and co-dependency and “good enough” mums and adult children of alcoholics. Well… maybe that's not such a surprise, as Russell does like to typically go in that direction, and it seems to be a theme amongst many Ashtanga practitioners. We have to say that this wild episode is one of our personal favorites. The drugs and name dropping is one thing… Twee references to the Royal family compound our glee! But, what gets us the most is when someone has a sincere relationship to the healing power of practice. And Lucinda Leachman is the first to attest to how it's helped her immensely. Using it as a somatic therapy, it's helped her to process the past, let go of shame, and move confidently into an unknown future. Lucinda is also no stranger to injury, pain, and frustration within the practice itself. As a mother, she's learned to release perfectionism and embrace the blessings that practice brings, so she can show up more fully in her life. FIND OUT MORE ABOUT LUCINDA ON IG - @lucindaleachmanyoga JOIN ME IN JUNE! „Come talk to me“, „The Blood of eden“ und „The Barry Williams Show” wurden zu Hits. I'm back from summer holidays and ready to give you your podcast dose of encouragement, support and sisterly love. If you are feeling a little lost lately, you are NOT alone. The whole world is in a state of transition as we stare down the barrels of so many unknowns. It's OK to feel a little (or a lot) lost right now. It's normal, even. And I'm here to remind you that you are strong and powerful, even when you feel lost. PLUS, feeling lost is part of our heroine's journey. Or as Christina Feldman explains in her fantastic book, “The Quest of the Warrior Woman”, a “season of discontent” is part of our warrior process. We are growing, evolving and figuring out how to use our power for GOOD. No woman is an island. So glad to be back with you! Peter Gabriel, one-time member of Genesis, is an English musician who is renowned for powerful, innovative, "intelligent" music.  When Gabriel left Genesis in 1975, after the album The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, he stunned fans and critics alike by teaming up with Bob Ezrin (Lou Reed, Pink Floyd, Kiss, Alice Cooper) to produce the album known as “Car”, a disparate collection of songs – including “Solsbury Hill” - with strong riffs, great guitar work, a variety of styles, to establish his solo credentials.  His 3rd album, known as “Melt”, broke Peter Gabriel as a world phenomenon. It received great reviews (mostly 5-star) and was much more rhythm-focussed, with songs like “Games without Frontiers” and “Biko”.  The album has a lot of “strange” sounds on it, and introduced Kate Bush on backing vocals. It was a high point for Peter Gabriel, who has made other great albums after this but never anything better! Our album to “Hear before You Die” this week is “1999”, Prince's 5th studio album from 1982. This album contains songs that have since become standards - “1999” and “Little Red Corvette” - and highlight his obsession with sex.  Prince influenced so many people – as songwriter, musician and studio experimenter. His sound was a key influence on R & B music through to the 90's.  “1999” is not the type of album we would normally listen to, but it's just so damn good!References:  Prince, “1999, Steve Lillywhite, Hugh Padgham, XTC - “Drums & Wires”, “Black Sea”, “War”, U2, Kirsty MacColl, “An Assassin's Diary”, Arthur Bremer, George Wallace, JFK, Steve Biko, Polaroids, Lewis Morley, Ahmet Ertegun, Jerry Marotta, “Ein Deutsches Album”, Johnny Warman, “Walking into Mirrors", “Sledgehammer”, “The Book of Love”, Alan Parker, Hipgnosis, Peter Gabriel.com The Rock TiktokGabriel PlaylistGabriel Concert

This means that the division of the beats is a repeating sequence of 1 2 3 4, 1 2 3 4 etc... However, in the true spirit of rock and roll rebellion a lot of bands have defied this "rule" with massively successful songs with odd beat divisions (aka odd meter or odd time signatures) of 5/4 (1 2 3 4 5), 7/4 (1 2 3 4 5 6 7) and even mixed meter time signatures like 1 2 3 4 and 1 2 3 as an example. Have I confused you yet? LOL! Don't worry. We are delighted to share with you a conversation with our fellow podcaster Nathan Thompson: Poet, Journalist, Buddhist Practitioner, and self-taught Ashtangi, as well as the host of the Escaping Samsara Podcast. Nathan is a peculiar sort of Englishman. In that he is entirely self made. He seems to have created a career for himself by weaving together a colorful tapestry, in the way that Americans used to (or were assumed to have done in the old days). The English, as Russell will tell you, have the distinct notoriety of being quite class bound. Karl Marx himself said there was no nation more bound for revolution than Great Britain, or words to that effect. And yet, that is exactly what Mr. Thompson has done in remaking himself. He grew up near London, surprisingly in an Evangelical Christian culture, with many other thousands in his familial community to gather in the happy-clappy spirit. However, coming down from these singularly peak experiences was humiliating in its own way. Russell pointed out that it resembled Peter Gabriel's annunciation in Solsbury Hill. How do we live in the meantime? How do we just fold laundry after all that? Subsequently, in his teens Nathan tumbled headfirst down the deep tunnel of drug use and sank into a pattern of addiction. After a decade of darkness, he found his feet again through the practice of Vipassana Meditation in the lineage of S.N Goenka, a tradition that both he and Harmony share a connection with. Nathan again forged his own path creating a career as a traveling Poet, which helped propel him on his ongoing spiritual quest to taste the nectar of pure, eternal, unadulterated bliss: the kind of thing you can fold laundry with. A friend asked him to teach English and so you will hear how he moved to Cambodia with a nonprofit organization, and found himself living in a Buddhist Monastery. Here wildly, out of this little hut, he flourished as a Journalist and head of the Foreign Press Club of Cambodia. Likewise, Nathan, taught himself the Ashtanga yoga practice in an idiosyncratic way, watching videos and trying all the postures from a single series all at one time. We touch upon the differences between being self-taught as a practitioner in this tradition verses having a teacher who will give you a pose and guide your practice, and how the desire to accumulate postures can become an addiction in itself. One of Nathan's favourite interviews on his podcast is with Ajahn Achalo, an Australian Buddhist monk living in Northern Thailand, who emphasizes the importance of cultivating Metta Meditation, so that you can call upon loving kindness whenever you need to.

In the fourth episode of the ALL NEW Anhedonic Headphones Podcast, Kevin interviews his co-worker (and across the street neighbor) Kyle. Surprisingly, the entire podcast was not recorded in an exaggerated David Lynch-voice, but instead, the two discuss nostalgia for the 1980s and 1990s, having the same CD collection as kids, being a 'Hulkamaniac' and having fun with their families and friends, and Kyle's charmingly eclectic and diverse taste in music. Click here for more information about the AWARD WINNING music site, Anhedonic Headphones.  Episode 4 credits: The intro to the episode featured an instrumental version of "Labels," performed by GZA/Genius, taken from the 2012 Get On Down/Geffen/Universal Music Special Markets release Liquid Swords - The Chess Box (Instrumentals.) The song originally appears on the 1995 Geffen Records release Liquid Swords. The theme music is a YouTube rip of the intro to BET's "Rap City: The Bassment," airing from 1999 to 2005. In this episode, we discussed: "Beautiful Girl" by INXS, taken from the 1992 Atlantic Records release, Welcome to Wherever You Are. "Please Do Not Go" by The Violent Femmes, taken from the 1983 Slash Records release, Violent Femmes. "The Lovecats" by The Cure, taken from the 1983 Fiction/Sire Records singles collection, Japanese Whispers. "Solsbury Hill" by Peter Gabriel, taken from the 1977 ATCO Records release, Peter Gabriel (Car.) "Like The Weather" by 10,000 Maniacs, taken from the 1987 Elektra Records release, In My Tribe. and as a special bonus track: "She Drives Me Crazy" by Fine Young Cannibals, taken from the 1989 London/IRS Release, The Raw & The Cooked. Welcome back for another episode of the ongoing celebration of being a Nerd, the weather in Queensland is starting to cool off a little. It takes an extra couple of minutes to cook your feet on the concrete now. We have another wonderful episode full of fantastic material for everyone, and believe me when I say everyone. Before we go further, we wish to have a moment to farewell the Mars Opportunity Rover, the gutsy little robot that could, and did for 15 years, so long and see you soon. First up Buck is excited to tell us about the World Science Festival happening this year in Queensland. There are events all around the place ranging from Chinchilla (the dinosaur capital of Australia) to the northern coast in Townsville and Gladstone not just in Brisbane. Buck is like a kid in a candy shop trying to work out which events he wants to attend. Check it out there are so many things to do and see it is totally amazing. There are even films being shown at GOMA (The Gallery of Modern Art) that you can look forward to. The Professor has news about the jobs cut at Activision and the ramifications of it. Also a rumour about job offers circulating for the recently unemployed. This is another major studio/publisher that is facing trouble with declines in sales, share price and general profitability. Wonder when they will start to listen to the customers and make games fun again. Also just bring back games with great storylines, not everyone wants to play a battle royale. DJ has found an amazing movie for us to all go and watch, titled Wandering Earth. It is a Sci-Fi from China on a big budget and is looking well worth watching. We will let you know what we think, but remember we encourage you to make your own decisions not just be sheeple and follow mindlessly what some cretin says. We also have the games being played and the lists of shout outs, remembrances, birthdays, events and general banter. Also we are sad to announce that no one was interested in the date with the DJ.EPISODE NOTES:World Science Festival Brisbane 2019 - http://www.worldsciencefestival.com.au/?gclid=Cj0KCQiA14TjBRD_ARIsAOCmO9b4a4oCKRet7RwIKcYPNs3VXlKlj2QXL7RbnpOZNd7SY9MhDCuDrD4aAmynEALw_wcBActivision Job Cuts - https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2019-02-08/activision-is-said-to-plan-job-cuts-as-sales-of-key-games-stallWandering Earth the movie - https://www.flicks.com.au/reviews/chinese-blockbuster-the-wandering-earth-might-be-the-best-sci-fi-movie-of-2019/?fbclid=IwAR23djvIMpwbHdA_moWg7qnkyrVqkLERcukORh978SxohkKI-QdOefsIRZIGames currently playingProfessor– Wargroove - https://wargroove.com/DJ– Apex Legends - https://www.ea.com/games/apex-legendsBuck– The Elder Scroll V: Skyrim - https://store.steampowered.com/app/72850/The_Elder_Scrolls_V_Skyrim/Other topics discussedTotal Recall (1990 movie)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Total_Recall_(1990_film)Solaris (2002 US movie)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solaris_(2002_film)List of Activision games- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Activision_video_gamesActivision Blizzard shuts down King’s Seattle studio- https://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2019-02-13-activision-blizzard-reportedly-shutters-kings-seattle-studioFurther info about The Wandering Earth- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wandering_EarthShadow Raiders (TV Series)- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_RaidersWar Planets (Toy Series)- http://www.virtualtoychest.com/warplanets/warplanets.htmlWorld Engine (Shadow Raiders reference)- https://shadowraiders.fandom.com/wiki/World_EngineWargroove now on Steam- https://store.steampowered.com/app/607050/Wargroove/Apex Legends will have Solo and Duo modes- https://www.pcgamer.com/au/apex-legends-could-soon-get-solo-and-duos-modes/Achievement hunter playing Apex Legends- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yfm5TYQdMC0Gary Larson Art- Thagomizer - https://i.imgur.com/Fv9wXyX.jpg- Dinosaur Cranial Capacity - https://i3.wp.com/i.racjonalista.pl/img/strony/larson1.jpgShoutouts16 Apr 2018 - Gary Larson – The man behind the name the “Thagomizer” a feature of stegosaurus anatomy, was coined in a Far Side cartoon - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gary_Larson24 Jan 2019 - Hayao & his son Goro Miyazaki are making 2 new Studio Ghibli movies - https://screenrant.com/hayao-miyazaki-studio-ghibli-new-movies/11 Feb 1999 – Final Fantasy VIII turns 20 - https://thespinoff.co.nz/games/12-02-2019/final-fantasy-8-is-the-best-and-weirdest-final-fantasy/Remembrances7 Feb 2019 – Albert Finney, English actor who worked in film (Annie (1982), Erin Brockovich, Big Fish, The Bourne Ultimatum, The Bourne Legacy and Skyfall) television and theatre. The second half of the DIVA Tribute focuses on Erasure's output from the mid-90's and on. Their writing remained sharp and focused like the uplifting rally cry of "Freedom," the absolutely beautiful "Sacred" "Be With You" and "If I Could Fall in Love With You". While I skipped over their remake of Cerrone's "Supernature" a song for all intents and purposes did not need to be remade by anybody for any reason but their delectable choice to re-do Blondie's "Rapture" and Peter Gabriel's "Solsbury Hill" were solid tributes to the originals. In particular "Rapture" taken from the "Cowboy" album had only one remix of the song by Matt Darey who was huge in the Trance community. Coming in at a breakneck speed of 137 BPM, it was never my cup of tea. Revisiting it after all these years has allowed me to really appreciate it. The remix was of its time and listening to it in the car makes me want go 80 down I-85. It's a different kind of fun from the original version. People have been suggesting an Erasure entry into the Diva Hall of Fame for I don't know how long as a companion to the Pet Shop Boys sets I made back in 2007. I was always unsure of those sets (now combined into one) until its release in 2009. I never thought I could do Erasure justice but I'll be damned if I haven't pulled it off (pat on back). Welcome to Volume 2 of our Erasure DIVA Dance Legacy Tribute, a musical journey where synthpop meets soaring vocals in a mesmerizing combination. This volume focuses on the group's '90s era, a pivotal time that saw them navigating new technological advancements while delivering infectious melodies that were impossible to ignore. Let's kick things off with the invigorating remake of the Blondie classic "Rapture." This remix amplifies the original Erasure essence, breathing new life into a classic. Matt Darey ingeniously twists the knobs, adding percussive elements and building up the atmospheric layers to create a soundscape that grabs you from the very first beat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cTsClwsNaAY Now, let's talk about freedom—the Erasure style, of course. "Freedom" is a euphoric rollercoaster that invites you to embrace liberation on your own terms. Mark Picchiotti strums the guitar strings just enough to add a dash of rock flair to Erasure's synth-soaked terrain, making for a sublime auditory experience. While we're on the subject of transcendent experiences, "In My Arms" takes emotional resonance to new heights. With its haunting lyrics and Dekkard's skillful vocal treatment, this remix underscores the poignant elements that Erasure is known for. It's a love anthem that will have you floating on air, reminiscing about those unforgettable moments wrapped in the arms of someone special. But let's not overlook the gripping remake of the Peter Gabriel classic "Solsbury Hill." In this rendition, Manhattan Clique serves a magnetic remix, complete with pulsating beats and synthetic waves that elevate Erasure's original masterpiece. It's a track that evokes the spirit of '90s dance floors, while also feeling at home in any contemporary playlist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OoiP84_I1x8 What makes Erasure particularly compelling is their knack for balance. They've managed to walk the line between keeping true to their roots and embracing the continual evolution of electronic music. Andy Bell's mesmerizing vocals mesh perfectly with Vince Clarke's expert instrumentation, a blend that has kept us dancing for decades. Whether you're a lifelong Erasure fan or a newcomer intrigued by their timeless beats, this DIVA Dance Legacy Tribute is an immersive experience. It's a tribute not just to the duo's musical genius but also to the DJs and artists who have reshaped and remixed their works for a new generation of dance aficionados. Peter Gabriel is one of rock music’s most active innovators. Between his Grammy- award-winning albums, social activism-based concerts, world music festivals, and his claim-to-fame band Genesis’s 2010 induction into the rock n’ roll hall of fame, Gabriel’s creative longevity is unquestionable. Author Daryl Easlea’s new biography, Without Frontiers: The Life and Music of Peter Gabriel illuminates this musical pioneer’s life and what inspires him. Daryl Easlea delves into the multi-talented Gabriel’s childhood, where he writes of young Gabriel’s influences, including his father who fostered his musical interest in everything from The Beatles to soul music. Gabriel began his musical career in the early 1970’s as the front man for Genesis, a band he created with fellow schoolmates. By 1975, citing the stress of being in the band and that Gabriel was newly married and with a baby, he set out on a solo career. Naming his first three albums after himself, he achieved moderate success with the singles “Solsbury Hill” and “Shock the Monkey.”  It wasn’t until Gabriel’s 1986 album, So, with the hits “Sledgehammer,” “Big Time,” and “In Your Eyes,” that he achieved commercial success. It was followed up five years later by the equally successful album US,  hits “Digging in the Dirt” and “Come Talk to Me” and as the author notes, is clearly the result of the singer’s personal struggles and years in therapy. Throughout Without Frontiers, Easlea weaves a beautiful biographical tapestry of Gabriel’s life. Quotes and interviews with friends and fellow musicians who were instrumental in Peter’s life help to chronicle the man and his immensely creative approach to his music.

With John Wilson. Peter Gabriel's latest project was inspired by his 2010 CD Scratch My Back, in which he gave an orchestral treatment to some of his favourite artists' songs. The former Genesis frontman discusses his new album New Blood, in which he gives highlights from his own solo back-catalogue a similar makeover, including Don't Give Up and Solsbury Hill. Doctor Who's Karen Gillan makes her professional stage debut in a new production of John Osborne's Inadmissible Evidence, which stars the Olivier and Tony award-winning actor Douglas Hodge in the massive central role of a disintegrating middle-aged lawyer, clinging to the human wreckage he's left in his wake. Sarah Churchwell reviews. The first major show for over 25 years of the work of surrealist painter Edward Burra opens this weekend. Despite suffering with acute arthritis so that his hands could hardly hold the brush, Burra is one of the most original 20th century British artists, fascinated by the seedy side of life, and inspired by a mixture of old masters and the pop culture of jazz and Hollywood films. John reports from Pallant House Gallery, Chichester. Gus Van Sant, whose films include Good Will Hunting and Milk, has now directed Restless, the tale of a terminally-ill girl who befriends a funeral gate-crashing drop-out. Starring Mia Wasikowska and Henry Hopper, the film has divided critics in America. Antonia Quirke gives her verdict. Producer Nicki Paxman.

What, you too much of a big shot to call anymore? Signed, Mom.   Heh...sorry, mom. Just trying to give people their fill of good retro music. I'll call you next week. I promise. Okay, that's it for the mailbag this week.     As for the music, most of this episode is rather upbeat and fun with one glaring exception: 1963 by New Order. Regular listeners will notice that New Order turns up a lot in these podcasts, yet I've never really devoted much time to writing much about them. I don't know why that is, exactly. After all, they're one of my favorite bands of all time, so you'd figure I'd give them a ton of column inches in my write-ups. But, everything about the band has always been understated, from their lyrics, to their cover art, and even to their significance in music history. In a weird way, I suppose, my omissions might be a greater sign of respect for a group that managed for so long to conceal itself. I mean, they weren't much for interviews and their liner notes rarely revealed anything about the members. Heck, Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook, and Stephen Morris were sort of unwilling rock stars anyway, their new band coming about after the dissolution of Joy Division and the death of former band mate and lead singer Ian Curtis. There was some serious discussion as to whether or not they wanted to continue as a band after the tragedy. Thankfully, they did continue on. They overcame early criticisms of being a Joy Division sound-alike and eventually developed their own sound, creating some of the most memorable dance music from the 80s. Blue Monday, for instance, is still the top-selling 12" dance mix of all time. (Check out CRC #19 to hear the song.) As for 1963, there is disagreement about its meaning. A superficial listen to the lyrics reveals a grim scenario whereby a man murders his lover and takes on another. The song is a recap of the failed relationship and seems to be sung from the perspective of the deceased. When taken into account with the date, 1963, however, the song, depending on what you believe, takes on a deeper significance. While much of New Order's music is left for open interpretation, as the band has said, it has also been said that lead singer Bernard Sumner wrote the song about the death of John F. Kennedy. According to some, Sumner had a theory that surmised JFK hired a hitman to kill Jackie so that he could be with Marilyn Monroe. History turned out differently and the bullets found a different target. So distraught was Monroe, she killed herself. The song, therefore, is sung from Jackie's perspective, begging John to spare her life. It's an interesting theory, but history will also show that Monroe died a year before Kennedy. Some have suggested the song refers to a soldier taking on another wife while fighting overseas and killing his domestic lover out of necessity or perhaps guilt. Some have suggested “Johnny” is a reference to Bernard's adoptive father John Dicken. Whatever the case, it's admittedly a sort of a down way to end a podcast lyrically, though the song's producer, Stephen Hague, has pointed out that it's the only song about domestic violence you can dance to. I'll hang my hat on that statement. New Song by Howard Jones is the first appearance for HoJo on CRC. With few exceptions, his music was always positive, but when you’re a self-described optimist that glove would seem to fit. Listen closely and see if you don’t find similarities between this song and Solsbury Hill by Peter Gabriel. While it’s long gone now, Jones' distinctive Mohawk hairdo was quite the spectacle back in the day. They were one-hit wonders in the U.S. with their 1987 hit Living in a Box, but the band of the same name had a second album that did quite well in Sheffield, England, their place of origin. The song Blow the House Down from the 1989 release Gatecrashing included Queen’s Brian May on guitar. This particular song is from their eponymous debut.   After Living in a Box, the podcast took an odd house-y kind of turn. Pablo has a dub feel and comes from Beloved’s remix album called Blissed Out. I’ve Been Thinking About You is the 12” version of the #1 tune by Londonbeat from 1991. The original appeared on their second full-length release called In the Blood. The first time I heard this tune, I thought it was Roland Gift and the boys from Fine Young Cannibals. A reasonable mistake, but a mistake no less. Ride the Bullet is the b-side of Crucified, probably the best-known hit from Army of Lovers. They always reminded me of Dead or Alive with Victorian-era costumes instead of drab-looking gothic clothes. This particular track was remixed by DNA, who has done many remix projects including the classic version of Tom’s Diner by Suzanne Vega (CRC #9) I Say Yeah is an awesome dance track by Italo-Disco producer Stefano Secchi. This particular song is the Razormaid! remix of the track and features vocals by Orlando Johnson. React 2 Rhythm grew out of the West London dance scene. The song here, Intoxication, was the second major release from the group, having signed initially to legendary producer William Orbit’s Guerilla Records imprint. This particular mix, the Dubfield Mix, was one of two by techno outfit Leftfield. The other was called the Clubfield Mix. At least half a dozen others remixed this track including pre-eminent 80s remixer Justin Robertson and John Digweed. Underworld has appeared on CRC before with their track Skyscraper I Love You (CRC #17). Here they return with the album version of Dirty Epic from the same dubnobasswithmyheadman CD. It’s hard to believe the transformation these guys have gone through over the years and maybe even harder to believe Karl Hyde and Rick Smith have been making music together for over 30 years. Though they haven’t yet been on CRC, their early ‘80s outfit Freuer will make an appearance at some point in time. Finally, there’s the Camouflage track X-ray. This version was taken from their limited, 2-disc, numbered best of collection called Rewind. In case you were wondering, I own pressing #3502. As the band puts it, they “liked the aura of the letters forming this word.” Before shooting the video, they wanted to watch the film The Man with the X-ray Eyes. The main character in the film is named Ray Milland. Because it took them ages to find a copy of the film they had watched as children, they eventually named the bonus track of the X-ray single In Search of Ray Milland. Bet you didn’t know that! Seems like these write-ups keep getting longer and longer every new episode. I’ll have to work on shortening them. I just don’t want to gyp any of the bands out of their due glory, though I may have to concentrate on the songs that have really neat stories behind them in the future. I don’t know. We’ll see, I guess. That’s all for this episode. I’ll be back again soon with more mail from the mailbag and some more groovy retro tunes. Until then…be good, everyone. By the way, the image associated with this episode is Half Face with Collar by Roy Lichtenstein. It is significant not only for the high price it was supposed to fetch at auction (and didn’t), but for the fact it was completed in…you guessed it…1963. Thanks to the website artobserved.com for the great image.
